Iconic protection system, opened in 1986, and keeping the low countries from periodic flooding.

Really nice to see this. Nice beach as well where you see a lot of people.
The Oosterschelde Storm Surge Barrier was built between 1976 and 1986 after the devastating 1953 flood. It's a great example of Dutch engineering on all disciplines, but most importantly, the large construction and dredging companies. The barrier is 9 kilometres long and has 65 enormous concrete pillars with 62 steel barriers between them. Those barriers are normally open, allowing the Oosterschelde to remain a tidal area. Only with storm surges will the barriers be closed. There is a motorway on the barrier but also a very wide bicycle road. .
If you are interested in history and human accomplishment, check out what the people of the Netherlands have done to fight against the sea and prevent devastating disasters such as the North Sea Flood of 1953.
Impressive engineering.
Great construction protecting our country
impressive technological Dutch feat, built to protect a large area of land from the sea. A must-see while in Netherlands.
A landmark of the Dutch’s incredible engineering. And the beaches are fabulous. Bring a bicycle and enjoy the view. But be careful, it is quite windy !
Niece views and many wind turbines 😀

Views of fields & water inlets from the top of a 23m-high brick tower built in the 1300s.
Slide 1 of 8
If you’re fit enough to get up the steep stairs (and down again as well), you rewarded with a very nice view on the water and surrounding acre. While you make you way up the tower you’ll pass along pictures and display cases showing the kind of local fauna and flora you might spot as well as the history of the tower (spoiler: it’s the only remnant of an old village called ‘Koudekerke’ founded in the 14 hundreds, that was taken by the sea). From the top you might spot some seals resting on a sandbank near the shore; there there’s a small telescope you can use for free (you can move it to the left or to the right on the rail it is attached to).
The tower stands all alone in the middle of nowhere. This was a nice surprise. There is no real indication that you can enter but when you do, there is an automatic exposition on history and its surroundings . You can get all the way up for a great vieuw of the sea and surroundings. The start of thr stairs are quite steep, use the rope.
Great mark in locals history, funny to visit although not much to do except walking/hiking
Little museum inside a tower, telling the story of the drunken villages and the nature surrounding the Oosterschelde. From the top you have a beautiful few of the surroundings and if you're lucky, you can even spot seals resting on the sand banks
Beautiful old tower, you can go inside before 6pm, there is a movie and nice view point.
a cute exhibition and clear explanations, it's free to the public and you can climb all into the top
Nice place to view the North Sea and area around. It's free entry.
Due to Corona it is closed. Ask the guys on the souvenir stand next to the tower. They maintain a waiting list and allow people to go upstairs in small groups.

We took the evening cruise and we were very impressed with how friendly and informative our lovely tour guide was. A great way of seeing the seals and learning more about the area.
We did the family tour on 2 dec when its cold and wet. I think in the summer this boat will be packed but now it was cosy with not a lot of people. We saw 1 dolphin and 1 seal. But tide was high so no sandbanks rising up. Next to that, the boat is good has all facilities, nice staff and food.
excellent boat tour. Friendly owners and staff. The presentation was really engaging too! We loved that it was audible, clear, packed with interesting facts and importantly it wasn't the whole time so we could chat too. We saw seals and porpoises too! Recommend! 😀👍
Nice cruise around the Oosterschelde with friendly staff, not too crowded and excellent attention for COVID-19 measures. Good value for money and a good alternative for the Neeltje Jans Park if you’re only interested in the scenic cruise.
The nature trip was absolutely wonderful! And I say that without even fully understanding the guide as I do not know Dutch or German. The number of passengers was very reasonable, the boat was not crowded. We saw sea pigs, seals and loads and loads of birds, it was amazing!
The Tour is nice. You can see seals, lots of birds and with a little luck dolphins. The operators could speak a little louder though.
good tour very friendly crew
Nice way to learn about a part of Netherlands

A small museum focused on the town history and the original school house. What made this lovely was the fantastic people working there and we ending up talking and they gave me the understanding off all the little things you might miss. The gift shop is also filled with local crafts so don’t miss that!
Old school! Quite literally. It's fun to sorta see how it was back in the day.
(Translated by Google) The museum is in a former school and comprises a total of three rooms. 1 room is set up like a classroom. Here everything can be touched and really experienced. The other two rooms have a Viking and fruit/flower theme. There is also a small museum shop and a herb garden where every visitor can take something with them if they want. The museum is run by volunteers and the ladies really put a lot of effort into explaining everything and reliving the history of the Burgh. Even though it's only a small museum, I easily spent an hour here. And the entrance fee is completely justified. What I have to mention, however, is that dogs are not allowed in the museum. I had my furry friend in a backpack and that was fine.
(Translated by Google) Very small museum, very nice to have seen enthusiastic volunteers with a story about the school there was also an exhibition of archaeological finds in the area and artists from the area, and a madder plant in the garden, Zeeland was known for this plant, which produced red dye and brought in a lot of money before dyes were chemically manufactured.
(Translated by Google) It was quite an experience to be back in school as a small child. Old-fashioned, just like in the early 1950s. The classroom is nicely decorated, everything very recognizable, including the "plain" and the "unlucky" one. Moreover, the two volunteers who were there enthusiastically provided anecdotes. Highly recommended. It's also fun for groups, where a teacher will accompany them. There's also a space where paintings, sculptures, etc., are exhibited, this time by a local celebrity. There's also a nice little shop with small trinkets. In short, just go there. Leuk ingericht lokaal, alles zeer herkenbaar. Kortom gewoon langs gaan.
(Translated by Google) Very nice that this has been preserved. The lady said that she had gone to school there herself and had a tame crow that stayed at school when they were in class. Also that an artist once had it and that they subsequently restored it to its former glory.
(Translated by Google) Nice little local history and school museum with a very interesting exhibition currently (September 2020) about the liberation of the region from German occupation at the end of the Second World War. Small and nice! I love this place, there is so much one can do , different sports and different activities for the children as well, I love bowling so it's my place to be.
We passed by on a hot day in August with the family to hide from the midday sun. Inside we played bowling at 27 eur for one hour. There are four lines available. Relaxes atmosphere with bowling balls of all sizes. Crocodile ramp available for toddlers. Different modes as well available to play. Billiard table in ok condition, cues not so much. Indoor playground was empty and our toddler didn’t like it much. Relaxed atmosphere. Outside parking contained electric charging stations at high speeds. Looks a bit of an old place.
Big playground for children. Friendly, cheap. Have not eaten here, so rating only on price, customer service and facilities for children.
22.5 for one hour bowling ...think twice before coming
The kids loved it.
(Translated by Google) A very nice mini golf course. Not too challenging, but not too easy either. It's visually appealing, and both the holes and the course are very well maintained. The price is reasonable, and there are shady seats along the side, even in the midday sun.
