The preserved ruins of Baelo Claudia, an ancient Roman city, include a visitor center with exhibits.

Beautiful peace of history that gives you good intentions of the city structure and citizens' lives. Surrounded by stunning views. Free admission, we could gladly pay 5 to 8 euro per person to contribute to building maintenance (the roof is leaking) and fund further excavation. I'm tremendously happy that we stopped on a sunny day!
Driving the coastal route from Málaga to Cádiz, Baelo Claudia provided a fascinating insight into the methods the Romans used for preserving fish, fishing for tuna, and producing ‘garum’ - a fish sauce delicacy. Managing to survive an earthquake and pirate raids, it stands as one of Spain’s most complete Roman towns. Efficient, clean set-up – well worth stopping off for.
Prepare yourself with information before visiting this place. It is a very powerful historical site, and if you are filled with knowledge of what happened there, you will gain unforgettable impressions and emotions from being there. It is very important to preserve such relics in order to have the opportunity to touch ancient history.
Lots to see, very well laid out. Interesting site thats right on the beach too.. Wrnt on a Sunday so the Museum was closed but could get access to the remainder of the site.
Wow and wow, right by the beach looking over at tangier. Amazing Roman town. The excavation has been going on a while, so it has loads to show you. Explaining what the buildings were used for and our 1st amphitheatre in great condition. Has some amazing roman road to walk on and the drains are noticeable (if you are a drainage wierdo like myself, its fascinating so much infrastructure was lost and we all went back to primitive mud huts!) Fascinating. Well presented. We were out of season, so the museum wasn't open, but still worth the visit. Great staff, they were patient on our leaving (they were wishing to close for the day, it was gone 6pm off season.) As said right near the beach, so could have a walk along there after if wished. Not far from the main road either.
History is for me very important and can not leave without it. It’s everyone’s present and we need to embrace it. Baelo Claudia site is small and well kept. The government of Spain really does beautiful work to keep their heritage, weather is Roman, or Muslim heritage. Baelo Claudia was an ancient Roman town in Hispania, located 22 kilometres (14 mi) outside of Tarifa, near the village of Bolonia, in southern Spain. Situated on the shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, the town began as a fishing village and trading hub when it was settled approximately 2,000 years ago. Although a prosperous town at the time of Emperor Claudius, it went into a decline partially fueled by earthquakes and was abandoned by the 6th century
Where history meets the sea and dunes 😍 Surreal surroundings with an amazing historical site. Absolutely unreal spot. If you are a member of the EU the entrance should be for free. We’ve arrived during the end of November it was still relatively warm and definitely less or basically no crowd. You can also take a walk at the beach and see nearby horses and cows
Nice location next to the beach. It’s free to visit for EU citizens. We came at 14:30 and we were constantly reminded by the staff that they were closing in 30.min (15:00)and we had to be “Rapido” 😅 A bit annoying but we still managed to hurry up and see the outside ruins. So be aware of the opening hours beforehand. There is a free parking outside the museum entrance. Worth the visit if you are passing by.

I recently rented a mountain bike from Sailboards Tarifa and I must say that it was a fantastic experience. Juan, the owner, was extremely friendly and helpful, making the rental process easy and stress-free. The bikes were in great condition and performed well on the challenging terrain of the nearby mountain trails. I was also impressed with the pricing - it was very reasonable and affordable, making it easy to rent a bike for a day or even a few days. Overall, I would highly recommend this mountain bike rental service to anyone looking for a great experience on the trails. With a friendly owner, well-maintained bikes, and reasonable prices, you can't go wrong with this rental service. Five stars!
Excellent mtb ebikes, well maintained and good customer service! Thanks for the bike memories!
Amazing shop and service! Complete professionals with watersports and cycling. Makers of the finest custom boards and repair service. Huge array of new and used boards for all types of conditions, from wave sailing to freestyle, freeride, slalom, foiling, SUP and many more.
Last week I got some sails and masts from SBT and only goods things I have to say. Great customer service. Sergio and Juan are on top of the game. They were really helpful and made everything really easy. I sent the money on Sunday. Monday morning I received a text from The courier saying on Thursday your parcel will be delivered. Thursday morning another text your parcel is out for delivery. 9:40 in the morning the parcel was delivered and I live in the U.K. Not to forget that their prices are hard to match and Sergio also texted me on Thursday night to check that it was all good with the stuff. I don't think there something more these guys could do. Thanks a lot guys. Keep up the good work. Happy customers are returning customers.
Although the name does not suggest it directly, you can also rent E-mountainbikes there. Which we did yesterday. Good service and very friendly, some different models to choose from so my small height gf and I were able to explore the countryside surrounding Tarifa a bit closer. Was 50€ per 24h per bike, might seem much at first , but you have to take into account that you're renting a piece of equipment that costs around 5000 and even more. 5/5 would go there again, and not only for the e-bikes.
Any question on windsurf gear, new developments or which beach to hit, and Sergio can help you out. Great service and advice, products, and good value make his shop in my view the best in Tarifa and much further. Pedro is the man upstairs shaping the boards, which I have been using for more than 10 years with immense satisfaction. SBT is really great of getting seeing through the fads which get marketed by the brands and stick to core values, whilst quietly innovating through proper testing and experience from riders and clients. All round winner.
Fantastic all round Tarifa sports shop, covering windsurfing (custom and second-hand boards, new and second-hand sails, kit rental), sup, mountain biking (including repair and rental) and more. Hugely knowledgeable staff, and convenient location with great parking.
We rented 2 MTBs, almost new, Specialized 29r. The owner gave us also helmets, a map with directions, and a car ride to the mirador where we started our trip. Great value. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) I went in July, and although it was a bit warm, it was great. There were some families having a picnic, but it wasn't crowded at all, so we were able to enjoy it peacefully. ⚠️ Important: Access can be a bit tricky if you're using only the GPS. It sends you down a road where you can lose your connection and end up a bit lost. The best thing to do is go to the Bolonia beach parking lot, park there, and walk for about 40-50 minutes along the beach. The GPS says it's two hours, but it's not that long if you're going along the coast. The path has rocky sections, but also mountain trails. It's not stroller-friendly, and it's best to pack light (towels, water, food, and little else). Some areas have cows and horses, and you might find their droppings 😅. 🌊 Once you arrive, the effort is worth it: the natural pools are beautiful. The water is clear and cold, although there is a lot of algae at the beginning. But if you pass them, you can swim and dive without any problem. We saw fish and crabs (especially on the rocks at the bottom). 💡 It's a safe place to swim, as long as the tide is low and you have to supervise the little ones so they don't climb on the rocks. There are plenty of places to sit and leave your things, and the surroundings are very peaceful (there are no beach bars or food trucks nearby, so bring your food and drinks). 👣 We went in flip-flops, but if you're going through rocky areas or mountains, it's best to wear closed-toe shoes to avoid sprains. It's not highly recommended for older people, but it's recommended for children with good footwear and if they're accompanied. ✨ The best thing is that, during the walk, you can take a dip in the beach or enjoy the views of Africa in the distance. However, be aware that you'll pass by some nudist beaches. 📌 In short: a spectacular place, ideal for those looking for nature and something different. I would definitely return.
(Translated by Google) It is advisable to wear booties since before reaching the natural pools you have to walk either over stones or through the countryside, where bare feet can suffer cuts. It is better to wait for the tide to go out since the path is easier and the photos turn out prettier. In August 2023 there was a lot of algae, so it gets a little dull.
(Translated by Google) We walked from Bolonia Beach, barefoot for most of the stretch and wearing flip-flops in the rockier areas. It's essential to check the tide calendar because you should go at low tide. It's an idyllic, rocky landscape that forms pools of clear, clean seawater in a film-like setting.
(Translated by Google) A very nice and quiet place to spend the day. You can take your pet with you without a problem. To get there, I recommend leaving your car in the parking lot next to the SIROCCO beach bar and walking along the beach to the natural pools. The route that Google shows you is a private road and not suitable for cars. It is a walk of about 15/25 minutes but it is worth it.
(Translated by Google) Very beautiful, it says to go by a path used by cows, but going along Bolonia beach is better and faster. Be careful at high tide, as it's impossible to return along the sand and you'll have to climb the dunes.

Such a lovely farm with stunning views! Picked up some delicious cheese as well! Coming back for a 3 hour experience, will update as I'm sure it will be epic!!!!
A local goat cheese maker, just off the beaten track going towards Bologna. They have a few different, from strong to mild. My favourite is a goaty take on cambembert. Absolutely a treat.
Excellent quesería (cheese maker) up the hill from the main town of Bolonia - definitely worth the 5 minute drive! Besides the great views of ocean and dunes, you'll be supporting a local family producing ecológico (organic) cheeses. They make many different hard, soft, semi-soft, and seasoned cheeses you can try before you buy.
I did not expect the goat camembert to be so delicious. Going back for more!
Great cheese, great little tour, great service!
Excellent cheese, and well worth visiting the farm. All very friendly and just a top quality product.
Thank you :) definitely worth the little detour.. amazing cheese and super friendly owner.. hopefully we'll have a chance to be back :))

I just got certified today and I can only say, what a great place and amazing experience! Ian is a wonderful instructor who really knows what he's doing and makes you feel at home. He's very chill and friendly, but also strict about safety and very professional. The underwater views are breathtaking and we got to see some roman ruins and sea life. Very exciting! I recommend it to everyone. :)
Man, what a view! Just did my diving course today and wow, it was awesome! After learning some basics from our instructor Ian, who is super knowledgeable and accommodating, we went diving to see the underwater ruins of roman buildings at the Bolonia Beach. The entire area, located in a National Park is BEAUTIFUL! The club is also really fun, with a great atmosphere and a Tiki Bar. What an experience! I would highly recommend for someone who wants to live a little.
THE BEST ADVENTURE OF THE SUMMER!!! The center is beautiful, very tropical and bright. Ian, the instructor, is a true professional, easy going, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. He makes you feel safe from the start. The course was very complete and after a pool practice, he took us straight to the ocean where we could see the beautiful fish, ruins and even an ancient roman boat. Back at the club, he invited our small group to an amazing paella, played some music and told us some of his own adventures at the sea. All in all, it was way more than we expected. We all got our star 1 certification and the same day we were able to come back for our diplomas. Thank you for everything Ian!
What a great experience! Hadn't dived in 15 years and just did a little refresh at Octopus. Bolonia with its wonderful beach and under water ruins makes for a unique dive spot. Ian is a wonderful instructor with a lot of experience, a good sense of humor and his excitement about what he does is contagious! Felt save at all times, enjoyed it a lot and highly recommend it
Bolonia is an amazing beach to visit, and also to jump in and dive around due to the huge amount of roman structures under water. A part from that, the octopus diving centre is an amazing club, run by Ian, a lovely excaptain who treats clients as family. Today I met him for the first time and his assistant Maria, and instantly liked them, they invited us for lunch (paella made by Ian itself), something I found happens quite often. He takes care of every client and is very responsible, I will come back for sure. Totally recommend for first timers. I only give them 4 stars because I would love to see them offering some more dives than the beach itself. But anyway mandatory visit if you ever go to Bolonia!
Amazing diving school, you feel so good, from the first moment you enter. Ian and the crew are very nice relaxed people, that are very careful with you, since the first moment untill you leave. Their garden and school has a tropical vibe, made with heart. They have also lovely dogs and cats. What can I say more, they cleaned all the garbage from the beach and also inside the water. Water is clean and good, you can see nice roman ruins inside. Ian is a very very good diver. We had a nice night at the bars with their friends. Take care, it was a pleasure, thank you and see you soon again.
5 stars to a 5 star diving center and instructor. Ian's amazing diving experience gave me a great sense of security and gave me the cofidence to real enjoy my diving experience. A lot of great views and a multiple variaty of fishes. Besides between all the pretty good sense of humor and amazing hospitality, for sure I can say it was one of the greatest experience of my life. I'll recomend it to all my friends.
What a lovely guy, Ian is. We were at his dive club one evening, had drinks, food, fun and laughter oh and music and karaoke. Sadly, I cannot dive as just getting over an ear infection but would have no hesitation in recommending Ian with his many years of experience. Thank you.
