This impressive 80m cascade in the Wicklow Mountains offers a readily accessible viewpoint near parking along the roadside. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking, particularly after rainfall enhances the waterfall's power. While the roadside location allows for easy viewing, exercise caution due to passing traffic. It's an ideal spot for capturing memorable photographs of this natural wonder within the stunning Wicklow landscape.
Glenmacnass Waterfall. For me it's better than Powerscout! 1. Celtic name: The name “Glenmacnass” comes from the Irish Gleann Mhic Nas, which can be translated as “valley of the sons of Nass”. 2. Formed by a glacier: The entire Glenmacnass valley is a trace of glacial erosion. It was the glacier that once formed the wide U-shaped valley along which the waterfall now flows. 3. Height - 80 m, but divided into cascades: The waterfall does not end in a single stream, but “flows” over smooth granite slabs, creating picturesque ledges and rapids. 4. Solitude: Unlike Powerscourt, there are no crowds of tourists here. 5. Served as a military road: The road nearby is part of the Military Road, built in the early 19th century to fight Irish rebels hiding in the mountains. 6. Flora and Fauna: Heather, deer, hawks and even foxes can be found in the area. It is especially beautiful in spring and autumn, with dramatic colour changes.
Meh. It was good to drive up. Good views. Really couldn't get a good picture of the Falls due to overgrown bushes. What I would recommend is keeping driving past the car park, for another 9km THEN you would get a view of the heart shaped lake..or so I was told. Wish I knew that when I was there. Not worth the special trip up, if you are with a tour guide, check and see if he goes further. Otherwise don't waste your time or money with a guide. I saw a couple of private guided tours there.
Beautiful! 😍. Stop along the road on the way up to it to get great shots, otherwise you have to hike a bit through cow pastures to get there. Or park on top and not get a good view at all.
A large and tall waterfall, if you are brave enough to venture to the waterfalls bottom its a lot more peaceful than the roar of the rushing water. Its a tough climb going down but a lot harder getting back up the steep incline. Good parking, some lovely walks and stunning views, enjoy
Very beautiful waterfall. Long way tô reach the top but a peaceful place to bê
.Pro Tip - to have the best view at the Waterfall, do not park at the parking lot on top of it; drive about half a kilometre past that and use one of the few unofficial parking slots at the side of the road. We've seen lots of exhausted people climbing up the rather steep road back to the parking lot, after they had to walk down to at least see that thing. And what is there to see? A nice cascade, not really a proper Waterfall, about a few hundred meters long and with a few streams flowing down the hill. Not that much of a spectacular sight, but a nice distraction from the otherwise mostly uninspiring landscape up there.
Breathtaking views from the top of the waterfall. Lovely to see that it's virtually litter free considering how busy it can be with visitors. I particularly enjoyed walking around the area and seeing all the differnt flora, was the wrong time of year for fauna but I will be back in the summer to see the heathers in full bloom. Highly recommend for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Lots to choose from. I grabbed up a green tunic for myself and a few gifts for family. The lady running the shop is kind and helpful. Highly recommend!
Huge range of Irish woolen jumpers and other products in stock. All out of my price range but that's not unusual for these products and I'm certain other shops would be even more. The atmosphere was a bit sad... Pop the heating on and a bit of Irish music in the background and it would feel like a much less awkward place to be. The cafe was closed, there was a sign for takeaway tea available. Overall if in the market for an Irish sweater it would be a good spot to go to.
A rather small shop with a wide selection of knitwear and a small selection of souvenirs. Upon entering, the shop smells a bit damp and musty and could be cleaner. The glass shelves are quite dusty, and there are several thick cobwebs on the inside of the door. Overall, it feels a bit dated.
Excellent place for shopping. I bought a beautiful silver pils box made by John O'Neil
Nice spot for shopping and coffee and you can do some big or small walks. Really good car park to and its free. Plus its a short walk to Glendalough and Laragh.
Rita was a great help! Very friendly & quick to find us additional sizes. We had a great time!! Everyone bought beautiful sweaters and we are thrilled with our purchases. We'll worth the drive. Lovely place.
An absolutely perfect atmosphere to get wool items. Rita was a pleasure and took care of my families needs and everyone got 2 or more items! Reasonable pricing and beautiful knits no matter what you're looking for you will find it here.
The knits here are absolutely gorgeous. I got a beautiful aqua sweater from this shop on my trip a few months prior. Well, I was mistaken about a setting on my washer and ruined it. Unfortunately, they shop doesn't have that color anymore, but they went out of their way to track down the last sweater of the same style and color they had in stock after hearing about how upset I was at the loss of my sweater. The transaction, even overseas, was quick and easy, and I could not recommend these kind folks enough. Well worth a stop at any of their shops in Ireland, or a good look at their website. And DRY CLEAN YOUR SWEATERS!

This was so much fun! We came just before they closed but they were still super friendly and helpful. Their equipment is awesome and instructions were given clearly and patiently. The locale is gorgeous and the trails are clearly marked and so much fun. I went with my kids 9 &13 and they had a blast. The 9 year old was barely big enough for the small bike and we did walk for a short bit of the course. The regulars on the trails were also super fun and kind. Such a great experience, my son would love to go again right now if I'd let him- we're trying to see some more of Dublin otherwise I'd say yes. 😀
Rented a trek e-bike as I wanted to see how they compare to a standard bike. Great service, the bike was great, and the trails are fantastic. Highly recommended.
Very nice staff at the biking rental. We rented 2 electric MtB (hood choice, as there is some serious pedalling up the hills). We have done all red and blue trails (within 2.5hrs). Blue is good for beginners (very smooth and picturesque ride through forest), but deffo not for the thrill seekers. Red trail is fantastic: the views, each trail is different to another - great variety. I was afraid that the trails would be very shaky (lots of rocks etc.), as I have problems with my wrist. Happy to report, that wasn't the case. There is good amount of rocks on each trail, but you can always find a way around them. I found red trails very smooth (comparing to other places that I have been) and technical. Overall great day (half actually) and I would highly recommend this place. P.S. I will allow myself for one small criticism - lack of toilet
One of the best mountain biking experiences. Trails were just redone in 2023 and they are smooth and flowy. We visited Ireland in March and now going back in November, the forest is gorgeous, and the people are so kind and friendly. Nice to have locals strike up conversation with us at the trail head cafe, which by the way has very tasty, toasted sandwiches, soup, Irish bread and hot cocoa after a fun day riding.
Really loved my experience renting here. The vitus bikes are decent rentals, but our mechanic, Dave, took great care of us, had all the bikes sitting out and ready when we arrived. He gave us a good detailing of the trails. The trails themselves are phenomenal. Very well maintained and built with the rider in mind. If you're biking in Ireland, this is definitely a must do. There's also a good array of difficulty levels for all abilities.
A big thanks to all the team in Biking.ie. We had an amazing time. While we had our own bikes up in Balinastoe our friends visiting from abroad hire some of the hard tail Mtb’s for both their kids and their adult selves. Such an amazing place, it blew their minds how good the trails were, the selection for all levels and the availability of really well maintained and high end bikes to cater for the needs of a high end pro to a novice. The pricing was very fair for such great equipment and the fact the trail centre doesn’t cost anything to ride those berms and what seemed like a beautiful bobsleigh track made it a really inexpensive activity for such a meaningful and fun experience. Because the trail design and surface is so good, even in the wet in winter it felt dry as no puddles can sit on the trails. It’s a must do for visitors or friends coming into town looking for something amazing to do. The Biking.ie staff were excellent.( thanks Brian and Katie) The bikes, instruction and helmet fitting and the great coffee, hot chocolate, toasties and cake at the end. Kind and very professional . The trails were really well market also. Hot tip, take a small detour on the way to the top to see the Lake at Guinness estate at Luggala( 5 mins detour up top). So pleased we could bring our friends to Ballinastoe trail centre. 10/10 experience. Well done again biking.ie.
We rented mountain bikes from here a while ago and had a blast exploring the beautiful Wicklow Mountains on are Ireland vacation. Are family is all different levels of riders from people that hardly ride to very frequent riders. The trails we did here were mostly gravel and there was some climbing involved but wasn’t too different. There is trails for every level of rider here. The staff here was very friendly and helpful, they gave us all the info we needed and told us which trails were the best for us to do as a group for our desires. We were all very happy and thought it was one of our favourite parts of the trip and we would do it again if back in the area.
Biking.ie in Ballinastoe Mountain offers great service and fantastic trails! The e-bikes were in perfect condition, fully chnarged and the staff super helpful. A brilliant experience — highly recommend! 🚵‍♂️🌲

Community run facility. Very friendly and a great venue for hiking and map reading courses. Tea/ coffee facilities available. The centre is very well run. Parking on site.
Great place Love their craft fair on 2nd Sunday of each month
Excellent. Simple but nice decor. Great facilities. Don't forget to pay a visit to the shop
Great place to visit especially the craft fair that they have on Sundays once a month.
This is a great place to hold events in, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The views of the surrounding countryside are amazing and calming not matter the weather. Local history is also interesting and you may bump into a well-known celebrity as the area is used for film making.
Stopped here for a car boot sale, some members of the public who had stalls were really nice and got water for my dogs and gave them treats, it was a really really hot day.
Lovely centre, clean and comfortable. Nice toilets, big hall and smaller carpeted rooms. Was there recently for a workshop. Plenty of car parking.
Great little hiking, camping and outdoor shop. Everything from hiking boots to sports, maps and clothing. Lots of room inside too and it's in a great location too.
