A very unorthodox Catholic Church in Barnbach, Austria, St. Barbara's, was completely re-designed, both inside and out, including the grounds, by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, in 1987-’88. Father Zeck (the assigned priest at the time) wanted an entire revamping of the church and the grounds and gave Hundertwasser free reign over the design. The result of his work that one sees here today, was obvious and controversial to all passersby. It is free to visit inside and there is free parking. Our tour director called this a 'Hidden Treasure' because many tours miss it, but it was easy enough to find and quite interesting to view.
