Stunning! 5 stars! • Like stepping back in time. • So well preserved & presented. • Boys aged 9 & 11 were very engaged throughout. • 8 minute VR viewing is in the ticket office & worth the extra 4€ as it’s a good intro. • armour available in the ticket office to try on (helmets & chain mail) which was super fun for the kids. • Ticket cost includes an audio guide (BYO headphones NOT NEEDED). • You are led around in groups to 9x sections of the castle by a guide. • tour lasted about 1-hour. • RE: parking - .50c / 30minutes. Check out p1 parking (UP THE HILL) first, p3 parking appears to be an overflow. • recommend paying 2€ per person (one way) for the train to get up to the castle — recommend proper footwear for the magical forest walking track to get back down. Otherwise you can buy a return train ticket. • HIGHLY recommend the restaurant where the train departs — food was delicious & very reasonably priced
Had a lovely and educational time at the castle tour. The wait was not that long, and the tours are pretty well scheduled. The walk up to the castle was short 10 minutes hike, managable in jeans and sneakers. The ride with the small train on the way down to the parking area was also very exciting and it cost only 2 euros. The whole museum part of the castle costs 18 euros, and it is available in English. Although I was in a group with the majority of people from the Netherlands and the audio from the speaker was in Dutch, the kind tour guide supplied others with portable speakers in English.
Worth a visit! Excursions run at set times so I had to wait 30 minutes (until 2:15 pm) for the hour-long tour. It's largely by audio guide which can be set to different languages, but the guide also adds a few comments on each room about hidden trap doors and other fun facts. The rooms and furniture are beautiful and a fantastic display of Gothic and Renaissance art. Note that buying a ticket online gives you a slight discount. The VR experience isn't worth it: it's rather blurry and not of the best quality.
Very beautiful castle ! We can visit with audioguide. The different rooms are well decorated ! It's for the whole family. Almost 75 min for visiting. Enjoy !
The castle itself is interesting, but unfortunately the visit was a bit disappointing. Inside there was plenty to see, yet it wasn’t possible to enjoy the full view of the castle’s exterior or take a photo of the central part from the most beautiful side – that area was closed for visitors. It would have been wonderful to experience the castle both inside and from the outside perspective.
Stunning castle We decided to walk up rather than get the train was a nice steady walk. The guide was brilliant and very informative. Really enjoyed the family tree room !
We joined a family tour and it was great for the kids - they got a separate hearing device for the content - the guide was very knowledge and enthusiastic, the castle is a great half day program, super restaurant at the bottom.
Beautiful castle up in the mountains 🏰. You arrive by car or bicycle, then have to make a 10 minute walk up the mountain before you reach the castle. You're then divided into groups, including a guide according to your preferred language. You're not allowed to walk around and see the castle on your own. Our guide wasn't very including and mostly spoke german and forgot the english listeners. The castle is 4,5 out of 5 ⭐️ The guide/experience was 2 out of 5 ⭐️ The whole tour takes about 1,5 to 2 hours in total. Not suitable for smaller children since you have to be careful around the items and furniture. Will not visit again except if they open up for exploring on your own 🏰⛰️

Starting at Jenbach station (also where the narrow gauge Zillertalbahn terminates) and climbing up to Lake Achensee this rack railway is a real throwback to years gone by. Don't expect first class comfort, the seating is basic but authentic wood benches but do expect a charming ride up the mountain side through wooded landscape and passing through the odd village up to the spectacular Lake Achensee, pushed and pulled by a little steam locomotive. Takes around 50 mins, so if you want comfort and speed to the lake then the road is the way to go, otherwise sit back and let nostalgia wash over you.
Nice train but very slow and full mechanic train without electricity device, if you can speak German, it's not a big problem (Although there are just little information in English). Combo ticket mean you could get the train ride to and from, and get on & off the ship as much as you want. Note that schedule of ship is fixed, don't miss.
Like other reviewers, I would greatly prefer if this were electrified. There is no need to run the actual polluting locomotive 5 times a day up and down, instead of a clean replica. There is no excuse
Very beautiful old cockwheel steam train. I just love the locomotives. The scenery along the railway is beautiful as well. Prices are quite high, but considering the maximum low number of passengers they are understandable.
probably the only terrible experience i've had in my entire Tyrolean stay. the 50+ min ride is extremely shaky, slow and nausea-inducing. if you must take it, don't book any group tickets lest you want to be forced into a tiny stuffy compartment (the individual ticket holder compartments are at least open and airy. you cannot switch even if there's barely any indiv. passengers).
Some people it seems (based on the reviews) just like to complain. Come on, the train is from 150 years ago. Its a nice and interesting way to take you to achensee. Is it on the expensive side? Sure, but you will not get the view and experience anyone else. For people complaining about stuffy compartments? The hell do you expect? Its an old train. Come on.
Amazing journey with old antique train powered by steam engine surrounded by beautiful mountains and lush trees.
We last came 10 years ago. We went to the ticket office and the lady explained the all the options and we chose to do the train and boat trip. The railway is brilliant with a steep climb straight out of Jenbach for 4km then a gentle run along towards Achensee. The boat trip is very relaxing, there is a bar on board for those who need a tipple. Well worth a trip and would recommend.

(Translated by Google) Great collection of various exhibits. Birds and mushrooms can be identified at the touch of a button. When it comes to mushrooms, look for edible and poisonous, very clear. Lots of information about South Tyrol. But a particularly nice presentation of the development and significance of the Jenbacher works.
