Fantastic visite. Really interesting and well done. You should know that you go 1.6km into the mountain with a little train that miners take. Miners go much further but keep in mind that if you are claustrophobic this might be difficult. The visit was very interesting and excellent guide. We also had a few tastings which were excellent. Truly worth the stop!! If you can reserve your tour before I would advise. We didn’t and were able to get on the last repo. But check the web site.
A real off-the-beaten-track experience and fascinating discovery that reveals the source and history of Swiss table salt! Enjoyable and adventurous train ride, followed by a great stroll through the mountains with a knowledgeable guide and export cheese tasting. Highly recommended and don't forget to bring your kids along! 🧂 🗻 🚋 PS: Access via public transport is slightly challenging. It's best to come by car or plan ahead logistically and expect a 15-minute walk along the road, river and up the hill. 🚘 🚌 🚶‍♂️
Very nice experience visiting this underground salt mine! It’s a bit pricey (27 CHF per person) but it’s worth for a one time visit. They have a lot of explanation but unfortunately when I came it’s was only in French, no English. We had an unforeseen event and arrived 20 minutes late but they were really kind and let us in! It’s recommended to book the ticket online in advance as this attraction can get sold out quickly, specially during weekend or holiday.
Two hours went by quickly thanks to our excellent tour guide who spoke in both French and German with a great sense of humour. The tour itself was informative and not too technical about the history & extracting aspect of the mines. There was, however, no display of huge piles of refined salt (which could be seen in some photos of the Basel mines). The most spectacular scenes in the mines were the salt pillar coming from the ceiling and the salt wall where you may taste the water. The lighting in the mines could be very beautiful. There was a restaurant in the mines which could fit about 50 people. There was almost no time and no mobile signal in the mines to read/hear the translation app that was recommended by this tour (they suggested you to download it at reception). This could be challenging for non-French/-German visitors. An on-the-go tasting of cheese, the caramel crème, and Zweifel chips was offered at the end of the tour. The location was difficult to reach via public transport. Free parking was available on site.
Truly an amazing experience, the way the salt mines are preserved and maintained and also how well managed the tours are, it was really wonderful to experience it. Close to 2hrs tour in the mountain and able to see every aspect related to how salt is extracted from the mountains is just awesome. The staff are also very friendly and at the end of the tour you get free chips and tasting of locally produced cheese. Highly suggest to visit the salt mine.
Entertaining and interesting guided tour of the salt mines. English audio guides are available, but our guide provided information in English (and German) in addition to French. Total tour lasted an hour and a half, but it didn't feel drawn out. For anyone who likes mines, caves and salt, well worth a visit.
This is a great attraction to come at any age. It has an interesting and fascinating history (centuries of it), some great amusements (like the train, the interiors, the crystals, the "salt kitchen" and some others). I've spent 2 hours on a guided tour and wasn't bored at any time during that time. Absolutely advised for a visit. It takes about an hour to hike here from Bex, or there is a bus to bring you halfway up, or you can even get a shuttle directly here on a weekend. Depending on your schedule and physical conditions, I'd recommend a hike for almost anyone capable and able to take it.
False advertising - no explosion on the tour or train ride into the mine tunnels. Very little English translation even when I tried asking questions as the guide had to rush us through the tour. An hour of not much except the tastings at the end.
