Absolute hidden gem of a Roman fortification at the edge of the old empire. Extremely worth a visit—very informative signage, but just note that the signs telling you what everything is are exclusively in Spanish. I was there at peak hours and nobody was around—totally free entry as well.
Amazing place! Free entry. The water level is so random, it's best to just go late summer, unless you want submerged ruins and baths. Still, I would still go. Museum is wed to sun only. Optional
Stunning location, it was quiet when we visited so we saw fish jumping, birds of prey and swifts (?) speeding across the top of the water all that and half sunken Roman ruins on the lake surrounded by hills & trees. The campervan area was brilliant, flat, clean, spacious with bins and disposal facilities and picnic benches. Very much appreciate the efforts in providing this free facility in such a stunning location. Please take good care of it all if you come.
This is a wonderful place, full of history and a very good energy, a lots of soldiers have rested and built this place, in the summer almost everything is clear to see while in the winter it might be flooded it’s worth visiting as well!
During our visit we witnessed a nearby wildfire and the airplanes would come to this reservoir to fill up. The Roman ruins are very interesting to visit. Take your time to understand the layout. There is also an phone app that will give a guided tour as you scan the QR codes that you'll find along the way.
Beautiful ruins of a roman fort next to the lake beach. This is an incredibly suggestive place, it's great to go and enjoy a hike by the lake, stop for some sightseeing and learn about history. It's also completely free
Loved this ruins on the side of the lake! Aquis Querquennis, is a Roman camp, we are in Porto Quintela, located in the municipality of Bande, in Galicia. The camp was established on the site for the construction of the Vía Nova, a road that connected Bracara Augusta ( the actual city of Braga in portugal) and Asturica Augusta (Astorga, Castilla y Leon, Spain) https://youtu.be/VScBXIUgjcI
Amazing to find such a well preserved and looked after Roman site with totally free access and with plenty of descriptive panels. Had never heard of this site before. Only found out when preparing our short stay in that area. Worth the visit. You can plan to get your swimming shorts and a towel to experience the warm springs of the Caldera Romana, a little further north on the same shore of the lake.

One of oldest Churches in Galicia dating back to 7th Century and visgothic period. Very spiritual where you can touch the interior stones and pray for a better world. They've significantly improved the setting as it relates to access & relationship with adjoining hamlet. Close to Celanova in beautiful countryside surroundings.
The road from the reservoir to Portugal and Ponte de Lima is breathtaking. You should see the amount of water that is missing from the reservoirs, quiet frightening to think if we don't see rain in the near future

Lovely thermal watter , temps ranging from 40 to 47C. Best to enter early at Dawn or at sunset. For those with blood pressure issues, staying in for more than 15 minutes , isnt recommended.
It's quite phenominal that a 2000 year old roman bath THAT STILL FUNCTIONS is out in the open and free to use. 5 pools, 4 of them crystal clear, ranging from warm to hot. RVs: the sign at the entrance clearly states NO RVs. For those who chose to ignore, the road is steep and unpaved. On rainy days getting out will likely be impossible. One of the locals said that the town does send police to ticket overnighters and RVs every once in a while, and especially when there is a complaint. I don't usually comment this, but please respect an incredible site and let keep it free for everyone.
The site was partially covered by water during my visit, but if you swim about 5 meters in, you’ll find the hot spring water flowing in from above. It’s actually a more epic experience this way — feeling the contrast between the cold river water surrounding you and the hot stream warming you from above. The depth reaches about 1.65 meters, so if you're taller than 1.70m, you can stand comfortably and enjoy the natural thermal bath. 🚐 Note for campervans: If your van is over 2.2 meters high, you won’t be able to pass the narrow entrance. You’ll need to park elsewhere and walk in. --- For more tips follow me on Google. I have a lot of maps and places to visit all around the world 🌎 all for free for my followers on Google Maps.
The area is great for having a walk, a beautiful and really quiet place. However the car park was full of campers, who seemed to stay there for longer than one night. People washing their clothes in the lake , hanging them around, dogs peeing in the water 😖 Hot pool was crowded, didn't look inviting so we didn't go in. Somebody brushed a dog and left their fur in the middle of the car park 😮‍💨It felt like a gypsy camp, dirty and not checked by anyone from town/council.
Completely submerged in June. The level is very random. I would probably visit late summer. The water smells VERY bad, very stagnant. Parking is rundown. It's a shame
This is a wonderful place, incredible energy and atmosphere around there, the hotspring pools were nice but not so much invitating, there was many people and during the night and the morning a lot of naked people which might make people quite uncomfortable, were almost at the end of the summer and only one pool is hot and active, I haven’t seen the tubs.
We loved it although it is very run down we like it that way! It feels authentic.. and the roman ruins are amazing.Beware the tiles are very slippery in the main pool so get in carefully. There is a very low height restriction on the car park and as a lot of people spend a long time here loos would be nice
Recent access changes (attention camper van owners!) I visited the Bande Hot Springs recently and was disappointed. It used to be possible to drive a van close to the water, but now a new gate with a height limit of only 2.1 meters has been installed, which blocks access for camper vans and taller vehicles. 😞 The place is still beautiful, but parking is now farther away, and you need to walk down to the lakes. Sharing this so that other visitors with camper vans or large vehicles know in advance that you can’t drive all the way to the water anymore.
