(Translated by Google) The lands of modern Satanov in 1431 came into the possession of the Podolian governor Peter Odrovonzh, who undertook to build a stone castle on the banks of the Zbruch to protect the population from frequent raids by the Tatars. Previously, defensive fortifications were also placed on its territory. In the 17th century, one of the heirs of Odrovonzh married the nobleman Sinyavsky, and the castle became the property of the Sinyavsky family until the beginning of the 20th century. It was they who rebuilt the stronghold and strengthened it, giving the structure a pentagonal shape and dividing the outer and inner walls with a deep ditch. The Russian Tsar Peter I stayed with the Sinyavskys, although not in the castle itself, but in a house on the outskirts of the village (destroyed in the 19th century), returning from a Turkish campaign. By the end of the 19th century, Satanovsky Castle was already partially destroyed, and no one planned to restore it. Therefore, in 1899, a sugar factory was built on its territory, and a water supply system was placed in the fortress itself, which drew water from Zbruch and supplied it upstairs to the factory. The plant existed here for more than 100 years, it was closed only in 2002. In 1924, the Soviet authorities decided to demolish the Satanic Fortress because it allegedly threatened human life. The castle was saved from destruction by the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee, which canceled the demolition order and ordered the restoration of the stronghold, for which a considerable amount of money was even allocated - 5,000 rubles. However, for unknown reasons, restoration never began, and the castle continued to collapse. A round free-standing tower and the remains of a tower and walls have been preserved.
