Impressive and unique are the panoramic views that show the complex formed by the Mallos de Riglos. These are visible from various points in the surrounding area, some present pictures as beautiful as the view at sunset from Murillo, or the most extensive one from the Mirador of the Vultures. Vertical walls that reach 300 meters high, located next to the town and the course of the Gállego River, these limestone conglomerates were formed in the Tertiary and were later eroded by water, rain and wind to form the current walls, coloured reddish due to the existence of iron and clay that is spectacular at sunset...
A beautiful place, very wild, and with an amazing view ! To be done!
We did a 12 km hike around the mountain up to the top. Stunning! Totally recommendable!
The Mallos de Riglos (English: Mallets of Riglos) are a set of conglomerate rock formations, located in the municipality of Las Peñas de Riglos, in the Hoya de Huesca comarca, in Aragon, Spain. They are located near Las Peñas de Riglos some 45 km (28 mi) to the northwest of the city of Huesca. Rising to some 300 metres (980 ft) high (c. 1000 metres or 3,300 ft (1,000 m) above sea level), they form part of the foothills of the Pyrenees. The Mallos were formed when eroded material washed down from the slopes of the Pyrenees and became cemented together by limestone. Over time, this mixture became compacted into a large mass of conglomerate rock. Eventually, erosion wore away the softer, more porous parts of the conglomerate. The more resistant rock remained, and became the formations known as the Mallos de Riglos. Because of their relatively vertical sides, the Mallos de Riglos are a popular destination for climbers.
It is interesting to walk around near these reddish mountains.
Beautiful natural rock wall that rises majestic and 90 degrees vertically creating a thrilling, impressive natural obstacle to be admired from different locations. Highly recommended to trekking and nature lovers that enjoys outstanding experiences.
It's a spectacular natural rock formation which is well worth a photo opportunity. You can drive close to the foot of the rocks at the back of the village or you can take the road towards Loarre and turn off for Sarsmarcuello for the Mirador de Los Buitres. This viewpoint is from above and gives you the chance to see circling vultures and other birds of prey with the rocks as a backdrop. Warning the road turns to gravel after the village.
Perfect trail 500 m going up at the circular trail .
