Delightful museum created by one man from his diving. We had the whole museum to ourselves. Some exhibits have English translations. Worth a visit. Ask at the nautilus restaurant (food is good there too)
This place is really a must in Kalymnos. Full sized museum with nicely presented countless underwater artifacts - natural, ancient, and military. Giannis, very friendly and competent guide and at the same time the owner and son of the founder, famous diver, will gladly spend the time with you there and - before or after that - treat you with his delicious food in his beach restaurant.
This place is amazing, the artifacts and photos are amazing.. the history in this place is a sight to be seen.. it also has things from WW2, parts of planes, bombs, guns.. again worth a visit for those things... Want to give a special mention to the owner what a great guy, we turned up early Sunday to find museum closed for the second time in 2 years and was disappointed and popped in restaurant next door and ordered a couple of drinks. Owner of restaurant asked if we wanted to move onto beach but we declined saying we only came for museum and it was closed to which he said it was his museum and he would open it for us which was stupendous of the lad and to top it off he didn't charge us for our drinks in restaurant and only took the entrance fee for museum.. Owner is a star and museum awesome.. please go you won't be disappointed 🙂
Visited the museum today what an amazing experience! Everything in there was absolutely amazing! Definitely recommend a visit to the museum if your on the island of Kalymnos! Giannis and Panormita were very polite and very informative! Also the quality of the jewelry were one of a kind!! 5 stars all the way
Amazing local museum telling the story of the sponge fishing industry and showcasing ancient gear used long ago. It also contains collections of sponges, coral, shells, fish and historical “findings”: from a reconstruction of a sunk early Greek trade vessel with all the amphora to the tragic rests of WWII. Most of the information is translated into English. It’s very nicely done.
We visited this Museum located in Vlichadia in the afternoon. Take note that they are opened all days, except for Sundays, from 09 00 till 17 00. The owner of the Museum manages also a restaurant with the same name next to the Museum, so if you find it closed for some reason, head to the restaurant to look for him. The entrance fee is 3 euro. It is difficult to reach the Museum from the port of Kalymnos if you do not have a car, because the buses do not go often to this village, so you may need to have your own transportation to get there. The Museum is very nice and it is a huge collection of artefacts and wrecks found by Mr STAVROS, who passed away 6 years ago, and who was a passionate DIVER and an extraordinary passionate about sea world and shipwrecks. Now his son is in charge of the Museum, and he is a smart and lovely person, so if you have any questions, just ask him! There is a small souvenir shop in the Museum where you can buy some magnets or shells from the Mediterranean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Great little musuem with interesting artefacts and helpful host, also attached is the taverna and entrepreneurs to the museum is free if you stay for drinks or food, would recommend!
Bert interesting little museum rum by the family Valsamidis in Vlychadia, Kalymnos. And THE restaurant serves delicious fresh seafood!
