This place is something truly special. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and at home. The setting is peaceful and beautifully kept, with a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. The food here deserves a mention of its own—fresh, creative, and full of flavor. Every meal felt like it was prepared with real care and love, and it’s honestly some of the best I’ve had on my travels. What really sets this place apart, though, are the people. Linda is such a kind-hearted and genuine person—always smiling and going out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. And the owners, Tisha and Simon, are simply amazing. You can feel the passion they’ve put into this place, and the way they treat their guests makes the whole experience warm, personal, and unforgettable. 😊 On top of that, I can’t recommend enough the snorkeling and scuba diving trips that can be arranged directly through the BnB. Domenic, the dive instructor, is excellent—patient, professional, and incredibly kind. Thanks to him, I fell in love with scuba diving all over again. It was one of the highlights of my stay. This isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience full of warmth, hospitality, and memories that will stay with you. I couldn’t recommend it more.
If you're planning to stay in Lahad Datu, you have to stay at HAK'S B&B, or at least go there for the most delicious diner. Tisha, Simon and their staff are amazing people that truly want the best for you and your trip to Sabah. They take care of every need you could possibly have. From a continues flow of fresh fruits infused drinks with flowers from their garden and farm grown cassava chips with homemade sambal, to the arrangement of our multi-days trip to Danum Valley. The dishes served at HAK's are made with the freshest ingredients either from the market, garden or farm and have been the tastiest meals we have had in our 30 days in Sabah. The B&B itself is lovely, clean and beautiful, situated in a quiet part of the town with a lush garden full of flowers, green and a relaxing pool. The rooms are clean and big with a comy bed and a lovely view. Long story short, if you plan on visiting the Lahad Datu area, stay at HAK's!
Best food, amazing hospitality! Tisha and Simon are fantastic hosts. Best breakfast: every day with tea/coffee, fresh juice, a sweet fruity plate and a salty one. If you can register for dinner, we absolutely recommend it. Best Malaysian food we had on our whole trip with vegetarian and vegan options (incl. self-made chips with sambal oelek, soup, salad, variety of vegetables, tofu/chicken, drinks, dessert). Even better lots of the food comes from their own sustainable farm!
Amazing hosts, homestay vibe. Dinner was the best food that we had in our 2 weeks in Borneo by far! Cannot stress enough how amazing the hosts of this accomodation are. Rooms were fairly basic but for the price, fantastic, with air conditioning. Cheap beers as well. Nothing I could possibly think of that could bring the rating down from a 10. One of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed at.
The best stay in Borneo! Tisha and Simon were so welcoming. Our room was confortable and clean, the food was incredibly delicious and beautiful (vegetarian and vegan friendly), and everybody in the house was so kind! 🥰 We swam and relaxed by the cute little pool outside in the dappled shade of the mango tree, looking at the flowers and the birds all around. 🌺🦜 It happened to be my birthday while we stayed there, and I will always remember it with great fondness. I warmly recommend their little paradise, which will always hold a special place in my heart! ❤️
We loved everything! And because of that we came twice ❤️ The perfect cleaned room and facilities. The amazing breakfast and surprise dinners! The garden and the pool. It’s a wonderful oasis, where you can unwind, relax and rejuvenate. To come and stay with Simon and his family was a true local and culinary experience! They prepare the dishes with so much love & creativity. The quality of each fresh product is amazing, most of it coming from his organic farm. HAKS restaurant is a complete package, from the presentation to the uniqueness of each dish, so rich in flavours. If you are looking for a private diving daytrip - Ask Simon to help you organise it. It was absolutely amazing & a unique experience. Thank you for this wonderful time - twice - and a big thank you to all of the staff, for being so friendly, happy, kind and super attentive! You made us feel so welcome - at home - and took such great care of us, like as if we were a part of your family. Thank you ❤️ We will miss you!
Look no further! If you need to stay at Lahad Datu, this is the place to book. Top marks in every aspect. Comfortable, spacious rooms, beautiful property and landscaping, backyard pool was refreshing and well maintained. The food served was so delicious. Tisha and Simon and staff were absolutely wonderful hosts. I would definitely stay here again! My only regret is not trying their dinner option.
Truly a hidden gem in Lahad Datu! Simon and Tisha are incredibly sweet and courteous and the property is wonderful. But what really stands out is the incredible food – local, healthy and amazingly tasty!!

It was an exciting and beautiful time for us; we have never seen such a beautiful natural and animal world that is worth protecting. (Translated by Google) There is a lot of nature to see when you arrive at Taliwas Camp. Afterwards we went on the shower jungle hike to the nearby waterfalls. Once there, we enjoyed a refreshing freshwater bath and a delicious snack with a surprise drink! We were accompanied courteously and humorously and since we hadn't had enough of a jungle trip after this one-hour hike, our planned out and back tour was changed to an adventurous and unforgettable circular hike. No problem that we were only able to communicate with the guides with a few words of English, hands and feet. People just seem to get along in the jungle ;-) (Original) Bereits bei der Anreise zum Taliwas-Camp gibt es viel Natur zu sehen.
We went trekking and spend one night here. In advance we had to choose between a shorter and a longer trek. We chose the short one. If we could choose again we would choose the long treck. Luckily the staff is very helpfull. We arranged an other walk in the afternoon and a nightwalk. There is also a nice river and an amazing lake to chill. We where the only guest. We really relaxed in between our walks. They made very delicious breakfast and dinner. The sleep accomodation was basic but comfortable.
