Historic cave with notable formations & a guided tour with a river crossing by raft.

It is a short detour from the Mae Hong Son loop and about an hour outside of Pai but well worth the trip. Cave consists of three main caverns, the last of which houses ancient coffins. Depending on the water level not all are accessible though.
Visit date: 8-Jul-25 (Tue) If you're visiting Sai Ngam Hot Spring within the same day, you can use the same entrance ticket! I'm excited to visit the prehistoric coffin and human remains in Cave 3 but apparently this option wasn't available due to the low water level. The guide said that the water level must be high enough to take the bamboo raft to Caves 2 and 3. Only Cave 1 tour is available, which was also interesting to feed the fish and see the unique limestone structures. The whole tour finished within 15 min. You are also required to hire a guide at the ticket booth or else you couldn't enter the cave.
After parking (which is free) you are required to hire a tour guide who will go with you to guide you through the cave. The guides know plenty about the cave, but not all of them speak English. The cave is VERY dark, so bring either a small tripod or a (flash) light if you're planning to take photos. It's well worth the price and a nice experience (floating in on the bamboo raft kinda feels like hopping onto a theme park darkride).
We experienced Nam Lod Cave with GJ Tours and I would definitely recommend you going with this company for an amazing experience. Gai who runs the tours (GJ Tours), speaks amazing English and made our tour enthralling and we learned so much. Gai has lived in the area all his life and knew some secret caves which we visited.
Very nice scenery. Was amazed by the raw nature of the cave. I booked a trip at one of the shops in Pai center. Be prepared, you need to pay an entry fee for the caves. Transport and entry fee are +- 450. Depends on how many caves you want to see (there are 3, all include rafting as well). One thing I was a bit concerned about was that there wasn’t like a kind of safety briefing. Because some stair are quite steep and some places are really slippery (would recommend wearing normal shoes). Still a very nice experience with some fun people!
Let us step into the historical and magical cave of Thailand, full of history and interesting things to see. This is my second time visiting back in january 2025 after my first visit in december 2018. I went to visit this cave to forget about my worries as something has happened to me back in 2018 but visiting here again, I wanted to replace the bad memories by enjoying the cave and replace it with good memories. Tagged along with two other travellers from Indonesia and Spain, plus our elderly tour guide, who told us interesting, funny and scary stories during the tour. We had a fantastic time! We went on a tour together because it was cheaper for us to split the cost of 600 baht to 200 baht each. So if you're travelling alone, would highly recommend you wait for two other travellers, just to split the cost of the tour as going alone will be expensive.
It was awesome nice big cave. Long walk. Not good for hips problem. Like my husband we haven’t seen all the way on the top inside the cave causing him hip problem. You will walk on the step ladder man made need to be careful.
Incredible massive cave. Well worth a visit. Costs 200-300 baht for the guide, depending on the size of your group. Bring a headtorch or similar to see more, and a hat to protect against bat/bird droppings. We got a sense our guide wasn't paid well so gave him a good tip.

This place is a long windy drive to the top of the hill but it has a lookout on both sides of the highway and each of them are great in their own rights! I recommend getting here before sunset so you can watch it
Kiew Lom Hill is a stunning spot to watch the sunset near Ban Rak Thai. The road up is a bit steep, but the view at the top is absolutely worth it. From here, you can take in sweeping views of mountains, valleys, and the distant lake especially magical when clouds drift halfway down the hills. The air is cool and peaceful, making it the perfect place to pause, breathe deeply, and soak in the serenity. A must visit if you’re in Ban Rak Thai!
Absolutely breathtaking on a clear afternoon. Early morning as far too foggy to see the beautiful mountains. There is also a coffee shop and toilet at the viewpoint. (And some cute dogs)
Doi Kiew Lom Viewpoint is an incredible stop with breathtaking views in both directions — it truly feels like you’re standing on top of the world. The scenery stretches endlessly across the mountains, making it perfect for relaxing, taking a deep breath, and capturing amazing photos. It’s a peaceful and refreshing spot to pause during your travels, enjoy the cool breeze, and appreciate the natural beauty of northern Thailand. A must-visit for anyone who loves panoramic views and photography!
The road is good, nice view, just stay for a while and take some pictures
Extraordinary place! Two viewpoints in different directions above the clouds — and a great spot for a short coffee break.
What a beautiful sunset we saw at this viewpoint! It's popular amoung tourists and we all lined up the side street until the sun was gone. It was peaceful and calming while hearing the birds chirping, feeling the cool breeze and seeing the beautiful purple, orange, pink, yellow sky and the silhouette of the mountains. Local wines are for sale by the stores. We bought one and had it at the airbnb later that night. Northern Thailand is so beautiful.
Was there normally it a good viewpoint But some day you can’t see any view because of weather

Such an amazing hidden gem of the northern Thailand. Completely unknown before the trip but this place has become the highlight of my trip to Mae Hong Son. Lahu hill tribe proudly live there with strong value in their beautiful culture and tradition - they seem to live in simple life while they welcome visitors. People are so friendly, the view is out of this world, which will stay in your heart for a long time.
Stopped by for a drink. But we reached after 4pm where most shops selling food were closed. Still managed to get our Thai milk tea. Took some photos along the free platform overseeing the mountains. Nothing really special about this place. The road is very narrow. Most will stay not more than an hour after a long drive. The cafe we drank at had some decorations to take photos.
Had it all for my self, amazing view and a cozy village. What a view, grab a coffee and sit for a while soaking it all in.
If you plan to go to from Mae Hong Son to Pai or vice versa , give time for a little bit detour to this village. They have plenty of coffee shops with a view, and the view is definitely amazing. But of you have plenty of time, you can stay in this village as they have also some accommodations.
It was the most stunning view up there and it was so wonderful staying there for one night. The people are so nice, you an eat noodle soup at the view point, it's just beautiful there. Worth visiting
Beautiful view and great service in the cafe.
Cute village with amazing views towards the valley.
Sooo lovely ! Small mountain village with an amazing few.

Authentic adventure inside an epic cave. Absolutely necessary with guide, even though I usually prefer to do excursions on my own, this is not the case. I did the 4 hour hike to the inner waterfall, saw cockroaches, fish, little white dragons which name I don’t know, kind of transparent shrimp and spiders. Obviously also bats, either moving or static inside the bat cave. Regarding the water shoes, even though there are available once you hire the guide, they only have small numbers up to 42 or so. I have a 47 so it was impossible to fit them. The guide fortunately had some slippers for me. You will get wet until your chest, depending on your height of course. Do it when in this beautiful area!!
There are 3 caves to explore- Coral cave , Diamond cave and Mae La Na cave. Mae La Na cave is a water cave and the water sometimes reaches your ankles , waist and neck. But most of the time, you will be on land instead of in water. There are 2 options if you choose Mae La Na cave : 2 hours for 300 THB or 4 hours for 500 THB. The time includes go and return. The difference is the 4 hours option allows you to see a waterfall inside the cave. I chose the 4 hours option. The waterfall is quite amazing :) The other 2 caves I did not have time to explore as it was 4.30pm when I finished and I was also quite tired. There is no water in those caves. This walk through the Mae La Na cave is not the normal sort of walk you would experience in a typical cave. There are a lot of rocks which you would need to navigate and watch your every step. You also need to sometimes walk into the water and there are also rocks in the water which you can’t see and may step on. You would need to be quite flexible as it is like rock climbing and hiking combined. A guide would be waiting somewhere near and as soon as he sees you driving on the way to the cave ticketing booth he will follow you over :) A guide is compulsory and he will hand you a headlight as the cave is totally dark inside. He is a local villager there and knows the path through the cave by heart. Try to follow his foot steps. He does not speak much English. They will offer a pair of rubber shoes for loan for free. However, I have stepped on many stones and rocks inside and it’s quite uncomfortable as the sole is not thick. On the other hand, your sneakers or shoes will get wet and dirty and maybe even torn. I also suggest you can prepare a beach wear quick dry top and shorts which I did. You can also wear dri fit track pants to protect your legs from being cut by rocks if it happens. The guide will carry a water proof bag and you can put your handphone inside his bag. When you arrive at certain highlights inside the cave, he can help you to take photos. After choosing your program option and paying the fee, there is another 2.5 km distance to the caves. The path is steep and challenging. If you ride a motorbike over, you can follow him on your motorbike or you can ride pillion on his motorbike and leave your motorbike at the ticketing booth. Mae La Na water cave is only open during dry season from November to May as the wafer will flood the cave in the wet season months. Do not follow google map’s directions to reach this cave. The correct route is to go through Ban Jabo village and Mae La Na village. Follow the signs on the road as shown in the photos attached. Extra : This area has quite a few caves including Tham Nam Lod cave. A good place to stay would be in Pang Mapha town instead of further away in Pai. There are some guesthouses to choose from.
At the entrance, there is a stall that offers guide services for 300 THB per person. The guide takes you to three caves, and you will need to swim to the third cave using a bamboo raft. It is possible to feed fish along the way. The experience is worth the price. (Not possible to go without guide)
Fantastic caving adventure. You will get wet! Mix of hiking, rock hopping, and walking through water that varies from ankle to neck deep. I recommend finding a guide ahead of time... Ask at Mae La Na Garden Guesthouse in town, the owner speaks English and can help you get in touch with a guide. The guide met me at the guest house and gave me a lift to the cave on his motorbike which I appreciated because the road to the cave is terrible and not safe for a car or inexperienced motorbike rider. Guide provides a head lamp. I wore my sneakers into the cave and was happy to have the extra traction. I wouldn't recommend sandals as it would be easy to stub your toe or slip on the rocks. I did the 4 hour trek which was perfect. Lots of time to enjoy, though I was starting to get a bit cold by the end. The cave was fantastic.. I saw amazing rock formations, bats, cave fish, and a very large snake. It was a true adventure and one of my favorite things in Thailand. Have a great time!
What an adventure. It’s a caving tour, so you get wet and dirty. 500 bath per person is well worth it. We just took our hiking boots
Mae La Na Cave is an unforgettable adventure! There’s no need to book in advance—just show up at the entrance, and you're good to go. You’ll be guided through an enormous cave network with incredible rock formations around every corner. One of the highlights was the waterfall deep inside the cave—absolutely breathtaking and totally unexpected. The whole experience feels raw and authentic, and it's amazing value for what you get. If you're up for a bit of adventure, don’t miss it!
We took 4 hour walk (climb) through cave, but we were done in maybe 2,5 hours. You can get rubber shoes for free, but they weren't much comfortable. Don't forget to drink enough water before you enter the cave, because it's not a good idea to carry a bottle there. You need both hands to climb some parts. The guide didn't know English at all, he just led us. But it was amazing experience. Mostly it was just joking through the cave, but at some parts you need to be physically fit, because it was more like climbing. Also there were lots of tight places. Stunning experience!
Super cool experience. Few things to note: ask around the village for the guide. He rides his bike & you follow, the road is bumpy and steep, make sure you're comfortable riding. Bug spray inside is a must! Sandals and clothes that can get wet and dirty.
