Absolute wicked cool place!! Highly recommend!! deep in the slate mines of Normandy, travel through the old tunnels as a walkthrough experience with audio and lights as your tour guide, available in English and french, see the deep Wells with crystal clear water, fun for the whole family, quite expensive but worth it. !!
This site is well worth a visit. We arrived on a Tuesday in September and were the only people there which made us think it was going to be a little disappointing. It’s certainly not that! Well organised route with excellent audio guidance in French and English. Very interesting and educational. Easy access and good paths. A fascinating insight into the tough life of slate quarrying and also how the stone was formed over the millennia. Good for both adults and children.
Wonderful little place to visit, four main rooms, all easily accessible. A special mention needs to be made to Lillie-Marie in the cafe, she is a wonderful person, speaks excellent English and French and it was lovely to chat to her while we were waiting for our tour to start. Thank you very much! Under 12s free, good value for the adults. Parts of it were very educational, I surprised myself with how much of my GCSE Geography I remembered! The tour takes about 1 hour, it’s led by lights and speakers in a language of your choice, there is no tour guide as such. Unfortunately our experience was that we missed one of the English ‘tour stations’ and we were therefore out of sync and had to listen to the rest of the tour in French or wait 40 minutes for another English tour to start. I’m not sure how it happened, whether we walked too slow or too fast, but it doesn’t seem to be the general experience that most people get so perhaps we were unlucky.
My daughter's and I loved this visit, staff were friendly and spoke good English when my French failed me! There is an English audio guide via speakers which moves along the route giving geological background info. The caves are lit well, enough to keep the imagination and some are like stepping onto a sci-fi movie set. Gift shop, toilets and cafe on site, well worth a visit.
Great place to visit. Explanation was in English as well as the films that were shown. At the end of the tour just before you leave the cave there were some fantastic semi precious stones. We stayed in our motorhome on the Aire de camping car, which was free but not the services. However, it was clean and tidy. Thanks
It's worth a visit if you are nearby but it's very expensive for what is displayed. The size of the slate caverns is pretty impressive and thinking how men carved them out is thought provoking. I feel with an actual guided tour, this would be much more interesting. The speaker system is "just ok"
A big suprise. Much better than I expected. Very helpful staff and with English available for all guides and explanation. Very good value and interesting. Our party had an 8,45, 55 and 76 years old. We all enjoyed it. Even the dog was allowed
Really enjoyed our visit. There was much more to see than we had expected
