This is a great park for nature lovers. Absolutely fantastic and wildfire did not change a thing. I would say that there is a lot of mysticism in this park. Some trails are stunning, plenty of privacy so you can admire the creation in silence. Rangers are very friendly and informative. This park needs you. There is plenty of work to rebuild, but still enjoyed every minute there. One trail is spectacular. Ask the ranger :)
The park is mostly driving through it with one parking lot with hikes. The bathrooms were ok kinda porta potty like near the trails. They make you write down which trails you are going, just in case you get lost, they know what direction to start looking. Luckily we opted for the smaller loop which is pretty well marked. We got here around 8am Saturday with no reservations and we got lucky to get in! Although there wasn’t many people around until after we left maybe about a hour later people started to show up
Big Basin Redwoods State Park is absolutely beautiful. The trails are moderate and easy to enjoy even if you’re not a pro hiker. Not too crowded, and parking is easy to find. The redwoods are stunning — massive and full of quiet power. It’s sad to see how much was lost after the fire, but what’s left still takes your breath away.
Amazing park with giant redwoods and peaceful walking trails. The board says no dogs allowed, but we went with our pup and saw many other people with dogs too, so it doesn’t seem very strict. The trail was clean and easy to walk, but the path had a lot of yellow snails everywhere, so walk carefully. Good place for a quiet walk.
This is a lovely area to explore. I would recommend spending a whole day or overnight to explore. There is plenty of woods, Forrest, hikes, and recreation to wander through. Be sure to plan ahead so you know where to go and what you are doing as well as how much gas you have. Once arrived, you will do more driving to reach either the basin or lake or pull off spots. Also, the weather is a bit cooler in the woods, so wear layers.
Visiting Big Basin was an unforgettable experience! Despite the visible scars from the 2020 lightning fires, the park is slowly and beautifully coming back to life. It was inspiring to witness nature’s resilience firsthand. The towering redwoods still offer an incredible sense of awe, and I learned a lot about the ecosystem through the interpretive signs on the trail — a meaningful and educational visit! The Redwood Loop Trail was easy and mostly shaded, making it perfect for a relaxing stroll while still enjoying those iconic redwood views. Many other trails are currently partially closed, so I recommend checking ahead online or at the visitor center — it would’ve been helpful if closures were posted more clearly at the entrance. Getting to the park is an adventure in itself. The road includes several narrow, one-lane sections and steel plates that act almost like surprise speed bumps — so definitely drive cautiously and take your time. Once you’re in, though, it’s worth every turn. The park has a mix of sunny and shaded areas, so come prepared for both. Overall, Big Basin is a place of quiet beauty, powerful renewal, and majestic trees, perfect for anyone looking to reconnect with nature.
A great park for a walk and stroll. Not the most ideal to experience redwood trees, but it stand as testament to the what first fires can do to such a great space. You can experience a unique sight of green trees completely charred on the surface from the last fire!
Went hiking at Big Basin recently and while the trails are beautiful and worth exploring, the signage definitely needs improvement. The trail markers are quite confusing — it’s easy to take a wrong turn and end up on a completely different trail. At first, we thought we were the only ones lost, but along the way we met several other hikers who were also unsure of the route. It would be really helpful if the trail signs were clearer and better placed, especially at junctions. A bit more attention to detail could really enhance the hiking experience here. Still, the nature and views make it worth the effort❤️

Great golf course. It's a hidden gem
Enjoyable course, spread over up-and-down fairways with good greens. Not pricey yet pretty well maintained grounds. Too bad the back 9 was lost to wildfire and economics. Worth the slow drive out to Boulder Creek.
The bar manager harasses all the women about how they play golf. Just a huge misogynist. If you avoid the bar the rest of the place is awesome.
Fun, tight,18 hole golf course, framed by stunning massive redwood trees. Great friendly staff, with a good food selection. Good prices and worth the drive.
Amazing value! Highly recommend this short 9 hole course. Amazing greens and this is a real hidden gem
Amazing course and everyone was super friendly and welcoming.
One of my favorites places to play when I’m near Santa cruz great course
Tons of fun. Beautiful course, beautiful drive. A muddy good mess of a time.

Historical plaque inscription: The building stands in the original town of Lorenzo, laid out by sawmill owner Joseph Peery, who included a “no whiskey” clause in each lot’s deed. In 1885 Boulder Creek was chosen for the terminus of the railroad from Felton, and after a fire devastated Lorenzo in 1897, Boulder Creek prevailed. During aggressive clashes over restricting liquor, gambling and prostitution, Peery’s mill was torched, as were the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, hence this building is the oldest surviving building in Boulder Creek. Grace Mission was established in May 1905 and this land was purchased. Arthur Darwall, who conducted services, and his son, are credited with the building construction. Opening services, November 1906, were held by Archdeacon Emery of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. When congregation numbers dwindled, Boulder Creek and Ben Lomond parishes were consolidated and Grace Episcopal closed. The building lay unused for several years until purchased in 1923 by the Christian Science Society. Isaiah Hartman loaned over half of the $1000 required. In 1955 the Society attained church status and the name was officially changed to First Church of Christ Scientist, Boulder Creek and in 1978, the Church was officially dedicated. In 1995, the property was sold to the Boulder Creek Historical Society to house the San Lorenzo Valley Museum’s collections. It opened to the community in 1999.
You can't put into words how I feel everytime I just look at a picture. I cry every time I do inside. I will until I see Father Victor McKinley Walne. I miss him so much. I see him every time I'm there. I remembered how loved he and his wife Ada were. Oh how she loved the kids. That was unfortunately the last time I saw him in his service before they went on their last mission to New Guinea. He was going to marry me in a private service when the returned. That uspet me dearly. You need to know Father Walne and Ada walne are my grandparents. I was their 1st grandchild .
Interesting, simple, old building and historic objects. A lot of items aren't labeled but they you give one a good feel for the historical industry of the area. Free with a donation box, no pressure. Pleasant place to stop and eat your lunch on the grass under the cherry trees (provided you brought your own lunch).
I can’t believe I’ve never been here before. Class field trip and what a cool place!
Quaint little museum. Loved it. Incredible history in our area.

Old locals bar that is friendly welcoming visitors. I was searching for a dive bar and came across Joe's. It has all the character of a dive bar, but is very clean. Big selection of beverages, wines, beers, snack foods pool tables dart boards, and local dogs. I will be back for more fun.
Shout out to Kayla - she is the best! I called this evening and asked for her help with a need for a veterans Memorial Day event and she immediately responded. Thank you, Kayla. We hope James will join us!
This is a cute little local bar however, the last thing anyone wants is an unfriendly and rude bartender. Last night my bf tried playing music on the jukebox which I believe is for the customer and she blew a gasket bc she wanted to play her music. Tsk tsk, you are there to work and customer is there to relax and listen to music if they choose to. You lost a customer for life
Great tables! Always good pool players and a Thursday night 8 ball tournament! Sign up at 7pm starts at 8pm sharp! $10 buy in!
If you want a great locals spot to beat the heat, this is it! We esp loved Kelly, she made a great Bloody Mary, friendly / welcoming and informative for these out of towners! Reasonable prices for good cocktails and cold beers - and can’t beat that local community feel of the folks at the bar. Will always come back to Joe’s!
Always a blast coming through here! Monday soup night and Tuesday karaoke can do no wrong! Best jello shots around
This place is amazing!!! What a great group of people. If you are looking for that neighborhood bar where everyone WANTS to know your name, this is it. The bartender Robert pays for your pool games on Mondays! THAT is an awesome bartender. And he is one of the nicest guys you will meet. Thanks to all the regulars for making me feel welcomed.
Great local bar. Very cool vibe on a Saturday afternoon. Had the Shepard's Pie - nice afternoon snack. Lots of IPAs on tap (7). Keep this in mind: CASH ONLY

I love our Boulder Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Through the years it has been very comforting to know whatever time I’ve had to call them for whatever reason, they have always been there to answer the phone and advise me in whatever I’ve needed answers to. God bless all our firefighters! ♥️🙏

This place has the most amazing antiques and knickknacks! The staff were so nice and helpful! If you’re going to be in Boulder Creek, stop here to browse and buy!
Stopped at Boulder Greek on a road trip from LA to SF on 16th March 2024. Lovely little town and awesome little shop. Bought fluorite stones as souvenirs for my wife and daughter. Just $3 piece, you could easily charge like 5 times as much. Will visit again if I'm ever there again!
So we’ve been traveling across the country for our honeymoon, visiting National Parks and small towns along the way. So far we’ve seen MO, CO, NM, AZ, CA and will head to Wyoming to see the Tetons! We’re adventurers, if you can’t tell. Currently my husband and I are hiking the Redwood Forests, and staying in Boulder Creek, CA. The town is historic and almost like going back in time to what a small town in California USED to feel like! They’ve done an amazing job preserving life within the beautiful Redwood Forest. There’s lots to see in the town’s main strip (and plenty of history to dig up), but you can’t stop in Boulder Creek without seeing Ms Jean Marie & Bob aka GIZ. They are the sweetest folks you’d ever meet, shared with us local history & pieces of their own story. We found treasures yes, but they made it much more than just a stop. It was an experience and we will be back! If you’re in Boulder Creek you need to stop by Boulder Creek Antique’s at Mac’s Place. Did we mention they have a Secret Garden? Unreal.
I love this place. There are so many hidden treasures in there
I thought it would have more than just antiques, since the sign also says unique gifts. Mostly just antiques but it certainly was a tiny store with a whole lot packed in. Not packed so badly that you couldn't walk around. It was all nicely displayed and some pretty cool stuff. I probably would stop back in if I ever happened to be in the area again. Didn't see the outdoor area would be interested in exploring that.
This is my first visit to this antique store. I loved it! It is a clean, well-lit, well curated with many vendors. I walked away with a necklace and a cute little bird, neither of which were antiques but still delighted me. They had a large collection in one of the booths of uranium glass which I'd never seen before. The people were helpful. It's definitely worth a trip. 👍
Good selection. More than 50 rotating dealers. Well priced. Cozy atmosphere and well planned booths. Shopkeepers were happy to give recommendations for surrounding antique store as well.
very nice shop very large selection of old beautiful things. very friendly staff. greetings from Munich

The monastery was a complete ghost town when I was there (Saturday around noon), but the gates were open and it looked inviting enough. It’s a really stunning shrine, which requires you to take your shoes off. There’s actually two shrine areas, and a monastery which you can explore. It’s also quite a drive to get here from SF, definitely a fun day trip.
The drive to this place is awesome. We were not allowed to go to the monastery, but we could go to the pagoda. It's a very peaceful place with serene vibes.
A little spot to stop by on a winding road. Very serene and peaceful.
Peaceful Buddhist temple for meditation. Perfect to be away from the city for a quiet walking meditation through nature. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This religious monastery is a hidden gem that offers a sanctuary for spiritual seekers and a glimpse into a way of life deeply rooted in faith and contemplation. The first thing that struck me upon arriving at the monastery was the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds it. Nestled in a serene valley, the monastery is enveloped by lush forests and offers stunning views of rolling hills. I left with a profound sense of inner peace and gratitude, and I highly recommend this monastery to anyone in search of a place to nourish their soul and deepen their connection to the divine.
It was a great place, so quite. But the way to get there its kind of hard.
Marked private and closed to public I'm just guessing that this place got popular and they got closed to the public. Wish I had taken a picture of the closures to share here. Anyways...the drive to this location is amazing. We stopped at the idyllic town of Boulder Creek for a coffee from Wild Roots Market
Very nice and quite place
