If you are a sweet-tooth like myself you do not want to miss this place. Both homemade and packaged candy, you didn't come here for packaged candy. Get some dark almond bark with cherries, try some fudge, get a truffle or two. Amazing taste and really reasonable compared to most stuff like this. Friendly staff as well!
I absolutely love Nancy's and stop anytime I'm anywhere close to the area. This trip was a little disappointing as I picked up a box of fudge from the discount area. I read it as 50% off Price Marked. After I paid and was on my way out I looked at the receipt and inquired. I was told that the 50% was already discounted, which is just not how I read this. I then said I was just going to return it but neither of the girls working the register knew how to do a return, they were going to have to track down someone else. I kept the fudge but really recommend that they change the wording for the discount fudge. Also train your staff! As usual the truffles were fantastic and I always love the chocolate dipped pretzels too!
Wow after reading the one star reviews I am compelled to leave a review. I honestly do not know what the candy taste like because we were yelled at and rushed so I grabbed my kids some jelly beans and put as fast as we could. As we went out of the store and waited on the rest of our group one lady followed us outside to ask what was wrong. We told her nothing but this was not enough for her so she proceeded to tell us we must have a problem. I decided to tell her the truth that the way every employee yelling at us as we walked in the door was a little off putting. To this she responded I don't know why and how do you think we feel. It was 5 minutes till close when we walked in with a store full of other guests. Every place I have ever gone restaurant, grocery store, fast food stays open for guest to enter until closed and then politely ask everyone to make their final selections and head to checkout. Politely is the main word here. Rude comments that we have to do better coming in their store should have been the que to turn around and leave. To be thugs is how these employees are trained. Definitely needs new management and new better employees. Will never go back!!!!
Every staff member was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. So so so many goodies to choose from you absolutely cannot go wrong. We got a smorgasbord of treats to share including fudge, dark chocolate pb cups, a truffle, and chocolate covered pretzels. Cute moment for a photo opp out front.
The candy is to die for. And the price is reasonable. I will go back to buy some more and tell my friends. Was my first time and will not be my last. ND THE EMPLOYEES WAS SO NICE AND FRIENDLY. GREAT PLACE TO GO.GOD BLESS.
I’m so glad I checked hours to see some bad reviews that caught my attention! There seems to be a lot of hate on one of the sweet ladies that works at Nancy’s. To point out the flaws in the negative reviews and to make one question the truthfulness of those reviews, one must wonder how someone left the store because another customer got yelled at and then was able to capture a gorgeous glamour shot of said yelling lady. I thought they left? Right? Anyone who takes a picture of someone like that and posts it for all to see without their permission likely isn't telling the truth, and likely isn’t welcome at any business. So long, farewell, avidezne, goodnight! Nancy’s has been around far too long for a couple of one sided reviews to influence people’s decision to buy good chocolate. Now let’s take a stroll to the previous bad review where a customer went in with minutes to spare before closing. First of all, it’s a respect thing. I imagine most wouldn’t want to stay later in the day when hours are clearly posted online and on the door. But like they said, most places stay open to serve them. 🙇‍♀️🤴 I’m sure something triggered the employees to become “thugs.” Maybe your children were allowed to shop unattended? Perhaps grabbing things and putting them where they don’t belong, pulling jelly beans that you might not plan to purchase, fingerprints on the glass? All of this combined with being closing time would cause a little frustration. I wasn’t there to see anyone thug out, but I have been there many times with my family, and she is a very sweet lady. So, there must be something more to the story that didn’t make the review. Or, you pushed her to a boiling point. I hope they install a chocolate river with chocolate extraction tubes to transport you disrespectful people out of the store before I come next month!
So, we are at the Florida Citrus Center in Florida and I see chocolate fudge cupcake size with walnuts made by Nancy’s. After bragging about Meadows of Dan, one hour from where we live in Virginia, we ate our fudge. It tasted ok, but it had two bite size small bits of nuts.if it does not have nuts in it don’t have it.
Great chocolates, candies and prices. There was so many options and the kiddo had a great time picking random things. Drove from Moneta for a Sunday drive and was not disappointed. We will be back!

Highland course was immaculate. Played on 11-08 and the price was $150. The golf course has to be seen to be believed. Great vistas, incredible shot values, and greens that were rolling fast and true add up to a tremendous value. Move up a tee box from where you would normally play as the course has some tough driving holes. Nice pro shop and a sprawling dinner area with top-notch food. Overall, an experience not be missed if you are in the area. Difficult to get to the course on a crazy stretch of switchbacks but that just adds to the allure of the place.
Had a top notch experience at Primland. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and professional. We were fortunate to essentially have the course to ourselves and it is a unique site lodged deep in the blue ridge mountains. Amazing mountain vistas and wildlife.
Luxury amenities set on 12,000 pristine acres of Blue Ridge Mountain heaven. Set along the ridge atop the mountain, the Highlands course has some of the most breathtaking views you'll find anywhere.
The Highland Course at Primland demands accuracy off the tee — fairways are tight, and missing them often means dealing with steep slopes, thick rough, or worse. Elevation changes are constant and sometimes deceptive, making club selection tricky and adding pressure to every drive. Stray shots are punished, not just by distance lost, but by awkward lies and tough angles into firm, fast greens. This isn’t a course you can fake your way through. Even short holes can bite if you’re out of position. The layout rewards precise play and good decision-making, especially on approaches where slopes around the greens can funnel a decent shot into trouble fast. Beautiful, yes — but it’s a test, bring some extra balls. 😎 Views are stunning and the resort / staff are fantastic.
For the buck you shell out to play here the course pretty much lives up to it. Played on July 31st and it was green as can be. Greens rolled nice. Very difficult to putt to some of those pin placements! Lots of blind uphill approach shots. Good selection of Par 3s. You will get your workout and moneys worth when you come to chop Primland! Magnificent condition and some great views along the way. I bet in the Fall this place is just amazing. If I was a millionaire like most of the other guests I would go play it every other month! Its a top notch place all around. 5 stars
Spectacular mountain course with truly top notch service. Great driving range and practice area, excellent pro shop with everything you would need, and a comfortable locker room. That course is beautiful and very challenging while being fun and approachable. The staff really stood out, everyone from the started to the pro to the beverage cart lady was very friendly, knowledgeable, and capable. Highly recommend this course.
Well run machine Drop your clubs and everyone ushers you through the clubhouse, practice area right to first tee Course was in excellent shape and weather in the mountains was 10 degrees cooler Fun to play Lunch at “smoker” is included but check what they have as ours was a bit heavy for golfiing-jalapeño brats or heavy sauced ribs
Hardest course but most beautiful I’ve played by far!

Lover's Leap is absolutely beautiful and a must-visit spot in Martinsville! This scenic overlook offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and countryside, making it a perfect place to relax and take in nature's beauty. The area is well-maintained and easily accessible, with plenty of space for picnics and quiet moments. Whether you're visiting for a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, or just to appreciate the views, Lover’s Leap offers a serene and picturesque experience. A true hidden gem!
Very famous overlook for this area. I came in June 2025. Lots of construction in the area. The view is still fantastic of the Blue Ridge mountains. If in the area its definetly worth stopping an enjoying the view.
Breath taking views once you get up to the top of the mountain. The drive up sucks because they have blasted away the mountain and there's construction everywhere, but once your there it is beautiful. Be sure to visit Mabry mill while you are in the area
I've lived here my whole life and this view still amazes me... Every time I go it's like seeing it for the first time. Gorgeous view that I can't really put into words ❤️🙏🏾 There is still construction but it has gotten better and not as confusing. BUT now you have to turn on a different road to get to it and it's a dead end at the moment, so you need to stop at the park right beside it and walk a few feet. I will always recommend going here❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful roadside views though its a shame there's so much graffiti. Lots of road construction in the area (Summer 2025) so beware.
A little harder to get to with the insanity level of roar building going on at that location. But it is absolutely worth the extra effort. I was at the lookout for two hours and only saw two other local hikers.
I can't express how much I LOVE the views from this Overlook! 💯 I have been visiting this place ever since I was 2 years old, and, it NEVER seems to grow old, for Me! Since I'm a Drone Pilot, these days, I've gotten a brand new perspective on the countryside, from here, and, I can't wait to experience it, even more, in the future! I've posted some images below, with more on the way, soon! I hope that You like them!
Yes my name is rooster, my birthday is March 11th 1986 can I have a new reviews on Google since I was about 18 years old my father passed when I was 20 we always wanted to go to the mountains together and I finally got to go up there and take his $200 cigar clip it lighted talking to my father in the mountains. When I was done I took the eclipse end of the cigar and I threw it out the mountain and it felt so much better well I feel so much better now but I got something off my chest and my father needed to hear and I needed to say if you want to go and see something very magical go to lover's leap of you all stay blessed by Jesus Christ

Went for the first time yesterday. Great chicken salad sandwiches. Loved buying cheeses made in NC, corn meal and dried beans. Great desserts too. Super nice staff. The yellow kitty outside made the store even better.
A Hidden Gem and a Lifesaver for a Good Meal There’s not much else around, so Poor Farmer’s Market was a total saving grace for breakfast and lunch during our stay in Meadows of Dan. The shop itself is absolutely adorable — it feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the prices are surprisingly affordable. My fiancée couldn’t stop raving about the breakfast sandwich served on a huge, fresh biscuit, and I got hooked on their BLT — one of the best I’ve had. As an added bonus, they have an awesome cat who hangs out outside and actually sat with us while we ate at the tables on the front porch. It’s those small touches that made the experience extra special. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re passing through the area — it’s a local treasure.
Absolutely stop off to the Meadows of Dan off the Blue Ridge Parkway!! Turning left is the Blue Ridge Motel. (I put photos and a review there). It was 7ish pm when we arrived into the little town and were awe struck at the simplicity and sweetness of the area. Jane's Cafe was closed but the Poor Farmers Market had a delicious sub for supper and the next morning we enjoyed biscuits and gravy with a fried egg and bacon. The staff were so nice and cooked the food while we waited. The atmosphere is laid back and family like. We enjoyed our little bit of time there.
Great sandwiches and salads. Happened to stop in because the café next door was too busy to seat us. We stumbled upon this place and was not disappointed! The staff was so friendly even with as busy az it was. Definitely a place to visit again! We came for a drive with the kiddo from Moneta but definitely will be back.
A great place to stop and grab a bite, some ice cream, or some local homemades. But the best part is the super friendly cats that live outside and are always appreciate of some attention
Spend some time just walking around all the shops here. Visit Maryberry Mill then stop here for some local things. Other gift shops right around the corner
They actually carry local items! For instance, honey, salsa and a very large variety of jams, jellies and preserves. Currently, they have fresh apples for sale and a large selection of candies.
The owner is not very nice. Its her way or no way. If she disagrees with you watch out. As for her produce it sits outside for all kinds of critters, insects to crawl all over it. Just so unsanitary. She brags that her ice cream is real. That her milk shakes are so good. Her ice cream is store bought. Her milk shakes taste like flavored milk. Not thick at all. Had better.

Stepping into the Mayberry Trading Post is like walking through a portal to simpler, more charming times. Established in 1892, this historic gem captures the essence of a bygone era while seamlessly blending in modern comforts. The rustic charm of the original structure is beautifully preserved, offering a nostalgic peek into the past. Visitors can delight in the eclectic mix of local crafts, homemade goodies, and unique finds that cater to both the traditional and contemporary tastes. Whether you're a history buff, a fan of local artisans, or just in search of a cozy spot to unwind, Mayberry Trading Post is a timeless treasure worth discovering.
Wonderful roadside gem! I've always took the Meadows of Dan exit, and rarely, if ever, traveled further south on the Parkway. We were looking for a spot to picnic. And there are surprisingly few picnic tables on the parkway. Noticed this place, and had to stop. Fantastic little store. And they had picnic tables!
New ownership has done a great job of remodeling this historic shop. Cleaner, brighter, lots of interesting new merchandise, but still keeping respect for tradition. If you haven't been in a while, check it out next time you're up that way.
WOW! Just WOW! What an amazing place! So much history! The owners are friendly and knowledgeable. So many things here. From essentials to crafts, it’s such a great stop. Old fashioned candy, yarn, books, shirts, kitchen towels, shaving cream, Vienna sausages, diced tomatoes, painted saw blades, hand made soaps, and so much more! There’s a Saturday farmer’s market until 1 pm. Definitely worth the drive!
The new owners daughter was there and she is so sweet. The place looks amazing, they've upgraded it a little but kept the original charm. We love this place.
This place is worth your stop right along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The owners are a part of the family who started the store back in the 1800’s. It’s impressive to see the store well loved and taken care of.
If you want history this is the place to visit. Original mailboxes and the sweetest woman who has worked there for 58 years. If you are interested she informed us they have Brunswick Stew on Sunday's in October.
While traveling around the region visiting Bob Childress churches, I was becoming increasingly hungrier. I did not realize that I would be wandering for so many hours and had not packed anything to eat. As I was driving toward a church in Meadows of Dan, all of the sudden a country store popped up, seemingly out of nowhere. When I stopped to look for a quick bite to ride me over, I met some friendly folks, heard a bit about the history of the old post office, and grabbed a big, dill pickle to ride me over. There were also some delicious looking hand pies that tempted me. This place has charm and a welcoming family running it. I would recommend a visit to anyone in the area.

We have been going to Henry for our birdhouse purchases and refurbishment for years. We had just moved to NC in 2015 and was exploring Meadows of Dan and stumbled across Henrys charming little store. He is a very talented craftsman and his wife's beautiful paintings are truly works of art. I think I have about 15-20 collected so far...some are just to beautiful to place outside. The larger houses I have outside are fought over by the blue birds and wrens! I love this place.
We love Henry's Place! The small balcony outside our apartment now has three of Henry's delightful birdhouses. They make us smile over our breakfast as we look out on their cheerful colors, our plants, our view to the world!
Super friendly guy running the store, talks to you like he's known you his whole life. Beautiful handmade and hand painted bird houses. Stopped here while traveling the Blue Ridge parkway. A favorite stop.
Great people Handmade art, Can't buy it at Walmart Local crafts
Cool place to stop and chat with the owner. Plus if you want a bird house.

Breathtaking views and far enough from the road to be peaceful.
My favorite scenic stop on the east side of the country! Have to walk the short trail and have a picnic at one of the picnic tables. Get lots of pictures and use the port a potty of course before descending back down the mountain. Appalachian mountains at its best!
Beautiful scenic views! It’s a small walk from the parking area to the summit but the trail isn’t too difficult to hike. They do have some grills on the trails as well which I found random but very cool. Highly recommend to come!
nice little park with great views and the occasional mama bear and cubs.
Very small park with an incredible overlook, well worth the stop for the views. There is only a portopottie as a restroom thought so generally best for a quicker stop
Absolutely breath taking on top of the world type view. Totally awesome.
Absolutely gorgeous. Did need some trash cans there, that would have come in handy.
Great views of the surrounding area. Better views with a short hike up to the lookouts than Lovers Leap. You can see Lovers Leap from one of them.

Amazing place! Took my mother and grandmother and we had a wonderful time! You can stay as busy as you’d like with activities or just hang out and enjoy the gorgeous views. If you’re bringing your dog, there are so many great areas to walk them and it is super pet friendly. All of our food was great as well. We definitely plan to return!
This property is ideal for a secluded getaway that will leave you feeling relaxed and renewed. The ambiance is warm, woodsy and inviting, and also a bit eclectic. Our room in the lodge was spacious and well appointed. All the staff were friendly and courteous. We enjoyed hiking (saw a mama bear and cubs), horseback riding, and a guided tour of the night sky in the awe-inspiring observatory. I don't golf, but the course looked beautiful. I thought all the food was quite good, which is important considering we were eating all our meals there. I really enjoyed this property and the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains. I hope to visit again.
I recently stayed at this five-star hotel and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable—professional, attentive, and genuinely warm. The lobby and common areas were beautifully designed, blending elegance with comfort. My room was spacious, spotless, and equipped with every luxury I could want, including plush bedding and modern amenities. The on-site dining was a true highlight, offering delicious dishes and a refined atmosphere. The spa and pool facilities provided the perfect relaxation after a long day. Overall, this hotel exceeded all expectations and delivered an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for discerning travelers.
If you're just going as a resort, the rooms, dining, and amenities all leave something to be desired when considering the price point. They're good. Just not the elite level you're paying for. But the people are wonderful everywhere you go. The trails right out your door are your dog's dream come true. And the golf is as good as it gets in VA. If you want to eat well, don't skip the smoker at the turn around! Fantastic! Grab lunch there, even if you're not golfing.
This resort was beautiful and that staff were amazing! But, it is already a pretty expensive resort and they charge you for every little thing. For example, one evening they had mood shine tastings in the lobby; I thought they were complimentary but it was $18 for a small glass. To rent a kayak it was $300; I am pretty sure I can buy a kayak for that much. The kids club is $150 per kid per day. It just feels like after already paying a lot to stay there, every little thing is also expensive on top of it.
Exquisite service and location. Truly a 5 star experience. We were warmly welcomed with a signature cocktail and I immediately began to relax. Such a beautiful place with great views, but the activities are what makes this place unique. We participated in stargazing in the hotel's own observatory, hiked to overlooks, RTVed on the mountain, and golfed on a course so good the rain didn't matter. And during all of this, we had the nicest staff help us and make us feel at home. The rooms are both beautiful and meticulously clean. Absolutely fabulous!
If you're wanting a true holiday - let the team at Primland set you up. We left our car with the valet on Sunday, and didn't see it until we left Thursday. The concierge took care of booking all our activities, so while we stayed busy with the observatory, fly fishing, horse back riding, the spa ect. We still had downtime on the back patio and by the pool, overlooking the most beautiful grounds. The wildlife is amazing, a bear greeted us on the way into the property, deer and turkeys all about...it was peaceful. We can't wait to return in the Fall.
it’s the perfect blend of luxury and nature. The treehouses are truly one-of-a-kind, offering peaceful seclusion and breathtaking views. The resort is thoughtfully designed for adults looking to unwind, with exceptional activities like guided fly fishing, hiking, clay shooting, and stargazing at the on-site observatory. Every detail feels intentional and elevated. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, Primland delivers an unforgettable experience.

Peaceful trail right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trail was natural and clean. It was an easy trail to hike and short, less than one mile. Fully recommend.
Was a nice little 20 minute loop walk along a creek and under a bridge. Nothing really worth seeing though.

This store is wonderful! They have something for everyone. Located right by the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan. Large variety, decent prices and friendly staff.
Great little store that's filled to the brim with lots of artisan pieces from kind of everywhere. Everything from wooden bowls made in Floyd to handmade glass lamps imported from Turkey. It's very-well organized and thoughtfully-arranged as you go through.
Fun and eclectic store with a lot of neat artisan items and some great clothing too. Friendly staff and a clean and warm store. Local craft beers available too! A great stop on the Blue Ridge Pkwy.
The Concord Store is a great store to visit for yourself or for interesting gifts for others. We bought an Alpine fountain shaped like old pieces of wood and set it up today. It sounds so nice.
wow.. upscale and huge variety of eccentric goods from all over the globe and local craftsman/ladies offerings.... it is a great little store in the center of Meadows of Dan VA... if your cruising the Blue Ridge Pkwy, stop in a holler at them ( just use your inside voice-lol) Did I mention the to s of local handmade furniture? Gitchasum!!!
Nice place to visit very clean with lots of cool stuff from gifts to furniture. Many things to shop like lamps, clothing, quilts, herbal lotions and soaps. Beverages coffee and sodas along with a few other snacks that are available. Nice clean restrooms open to the public as well. A little pricey on some items though but a fun place to visit.
Definitely a cool store to stop in if you've never been here. They have tons of cool things for about everyone! Make sure to stop in and take a look around.
A great store in meadows of dan. Handmade quilts, clothes, unique gifts, locally brewed beer and many more items to buy. A great place to shop and also buy a beer and porch sit on the wonderful gliders and rockers.

Poppy's is the best shop in Meadows-of-Dan and Ms. Shelor is a wonderfully kind, knowledgeable shopkeeper. We visit every time we're in MOD, at least once a year. The shop has beautiful local, handmade and imported clothing items. We love browsing the antique books and always find amazing, well out-of-print treasures at great prices. There are so many lovely art pieces from glass, to fiber, to wood, all reasonably priced. I purchased lots of birthday and Christmas gifts and, I'll admit it, a few items for myself. :) Willie, the shop cat, is a handsome fellow who welcomes your gentle pets and cooing. If you're looking for a warm welcome in a charming shop with awesome inventory, Poppy's is the place!!
Beautiful course in great condition. I didn’t have a bad lie all day. Fluffy bunkers and greens to challenge your putting skills. If you’re ever near by you should book a tee time. Staff was excellent
Got some amazing things here! I love this store and their amazing book selection, really so many unique things and all reasonable. The owner is very helpful and kind and we enjoyed talking with her. Will absolutely return, highly recommend!
What a gem, we pop in everytime we are in the neighborhood. I great store run by kind and wonderful people, don't forget to take the time to pet the shop cats ❤️
One of the most charming stores I've ever had the pleasure of shopping. Very much enjoyed Willy(ie?) the cat's company and affection as I browsed. Purchased a 15 volume John Burroughs set that I will treasure for the rest of my days.
Cute store run by a nice lady, but had the misfortune of visiting on a warmer day and the place is just kind of dirty and unkempt. Dark, musty smell, cat food left out and cat hair covering *everything* along with a very cute and friendly cat running in from outside. It's a smell people people can get noseblind to, like living in a farm so YMMV. Very pretty view of the area behind it. Stopped to get some yarn but didn't feel comfortable bringing any of it home. This really is a YMMV situation -- just wasn't for us but can see others finding the inside as charming as the outside and not caring about what the yarn may have picked up.
Cute, quirky and eclectic. Good to visit when you're in Meadows of Dan.
A very small and cute craft shop. This will definitely bring enjoyment to the yarn lover in your life. Particularly because many of the fibers offered here are VERY high quality. Wool, alpaca, cotton. Some of which are hand spun from local artists in the area. Highly recommend this place.
