Great museum, it gets better every time I visit, which is about every other year or so due to living in a different state. Museum has expanded, nice and cold with a very nice gift shop selling t shirts and memorabilia, staff working there was friendly and knowledgeable, give her a bonus! The museum is located downtown Clarksdale, Ms which seems to be going through a revitalization, also there's a main stage right next to the museum, we loved it and took lots of photos. If you're a Coahoma county resident, entry is free, all others, pay a small fee to enter and it's worth it. If you're in the area, you'd be crazy to bypass this gem of a museum in the heart of Clarksdale, Ms.
Great place, one the best place to visit in this town. Guest service employee was extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of information in the museum. I highly recommend, but not photos inside. And there is a mall gift shop. There is a Entry fee, but they offer the usual discounts.
One of my all time favorite museums, especially if you are able to see it with the context of the National Civi Rights Museum in Memphis. There is a lot to read and take in and photos aren't allowed, so take a little notebook to jot down all the amazing musicians who are featured. I pay a visit every time I'm in town and every time I learn something new. I especially love the wall dedicated to Red. Thank you for preserving this amazing history.
What a great learning experience! I needed another hour, for a total of 3, to digest the wealth of information in this wonderful place. Staff was fun and informative. No photos or videos inside the museum. Recommend!
Really fantastic museum which lays out lots of famous and obscure musicians from the region. The main room is packed with artifacts, including guitars and outfits worn by the musicians. You could easily spend an entire afternoon here if you take your time and read everything. It's maybe not the most modern museum, but it was fun, interesting and well thought out. Highly recommended!
Superb not-for-profit museum that really helps you understand the reason the delta blues was born. A must visit.
I didn’t have to pay to enter this museum: Washington, DC—The National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families (BSF) are pleased to announce that museums across the nation will be participating in the 14th summer of the Blue Star Museums program. From Saturday, May 20, 2023, Armed Forces Day, to Monday, September 4, 2023, Labor Day, active duty military families can enjoy free admission to participating museums in all 50 states, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Wanted to share that information in case other museums are visited. I’m not active duty but most will also allow Veterans free entrance. This museums has tons of information. You could really feel overwhelmed and it’s a pretty large museum. I didn’t have enough time to properly view. I highly recommend allowing at least 2-3 hours to tour. You are not allowed to take photos or videos. This part I didn’t like!! The home of Muddy Waters is in museum. Actually it’s one room, the others were destroyed in tornado. There is a lot of written information about him on display in that area. There are so many artist on display, it seems like they didn’t leave anyone out! Ike Turner was born in Clarksdale, MS. I didn’t have a clue about this. You learn so many details about the artist in these museums. This all ties into the Blues Museum and Hall of Fame in Memphis because many of them were produced by Sam Phillips before leaving MS. This was my 2nd time at museum and I noticed that it had been updated and is much nicer in 2024. It’s very upscale and they have added new displays, photos. It also seems the floor has been redone. I absolutely love this museum! There is a gift shop and the staff is very friendly! I did take photos of gift shop and area outside of building. They have very nice murals in area and blues marker for Ike Turner. This museum is very interesting, I highly recommend visiting!!
Really neat place. Learn a lot about the early blues. I knew nothing about it. Always heard about the blues lost information. Lost the displays. I may even go back again.

If I could relive any night of my fairly long life, it just might be the evening I spent here recently. Unbelievable. Don't expect much in the way of comforts but the crowd and staff are very friendly, the beer and water are cold, and the music is likely to be incredible.
Outstanding! No words can say how cool this place is. The people, the atmosphere, the vibe, the decor, the service, the band's, the music, the people, Ellis, Orlando, and did I mention the people? Cool as a penguin's cool bits. Once visited never to be forgotten. 🎸 😎
Its a hole in the wall place, so it was perfect. The only serve beer, water, and sodas. You are mere feet from the performer. Rev. Slim was amazing. Had the best time. There is no food but you can bring your own with you. Gonna do that next time.
Amazing place. Ok, the interior is old and basically falling down, but what you get is the most authentic blues club imaginable. We attended for my wife’s 60th Birthday and had the ‘best birthday ever’. Big ‘A’ was playing with his band and boy, can they play. Looking forward to seeing them in the UK next year some time. Forget the aesthetics of the place (actually don’t, take it in….they make the place so much more than any sterile, commercialised venue could hope for). The patrons, clientele and band were all fabulously welcoming and friendly. Big shout out to Big ‘A’ for playing a dedicated song for my wife.
Red's in Clarksdale is a monument to blues music. No stage, no frills. The place is falling apart. Thats just as it should be. This is a lounge where massive artistic talent comes together to play their hearts out. Just be sure to bring cash for the bar and tip the band!
Most iconic juke joint in Mississippi and most likely the world, don't miss this place
If you like blues. This place Reds, is a real juke joint. Low down hypnotic delta style blues.
If you’ve come to Clarksdale in search of looking The Blues, then you gotta find your way to Red’s. Backed by the river and fronted by the grave, this timeless venue transcends the present, connecting any who enter with a Delta Blues tradition in the Land of Cotton that’s as rich as soil itself. Orlando, Ashley, and the other members of the Red’s team are not just great hosts, but stewards of a juke joint tradition that stretches back here over a century. And the BBQ (Fridays, Saturdays) is damn good, too. Don’t miss it! A++

Cool little bar that has blues. None were playing when we were there but looked like a good time if playing. We shared the catfish dinner. Definitely enough for one person. Partly owned by Morgan Freeman. A must see mural on outside of building. The Delat Blues Museum is next door.
This place is co-owned by Morgan Freeman. The place is huge, and due to the Juke Joint Festival, it was tough to get a seat. There is SO much to look at. The building seems dirty inside, and the bathroom needs upgrades. Also, I did not enjoy the food, and I love food. I believe the fried green tomatoes are marinated, and the breading (possibly cornmeal) didn't stay on. It is affordable, though. The talent was incredibly good, and it was worth several additional cover charges for this.
Of course, their music was what attracted many people over from all over the world, but I can honestly say that out of the food that I have had, I thoroughly enjoyed it all in terms of taste. It was economical, too, so we had quality food while spending a reasonable amount of money. I had the catfish BLT, which was a simple catfish burger with the most basic ingredients. Yet the catfish itself was so tasty that I didn't even need ketchup or mayo for the burger. It was so seasoned that it definitely made the burger an enjoyable experience. My partner had the kingfish platter which was essentially catfish as well. But then there was a small cup of coleslaw that we both thought was the best we've had, mainly because they didn't use mayo but some kind of vinegar to supplement the taste. And then my partner had the deep fried pecan pie and I had a taste of it. Even though I am not even the biggest fan of pecan pie, I really enjoyed that one and I think it was because the deep fried aspect along with whipped cream complemented the gelatinous material in pecan pies (don't know how to call it). There was music 365 days a week in the club, and particularly we were there during the annual Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival, so it was extra special. There were visitors all over the world attending the festival and many great bands played in the club. The amount of mess on the walls in the club speaks to the historically and culturally rich aspect of this club and of this town. Definitely a 5 star experience.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ 9.5/10 — Ground Zero Blues Club, Clarksdale, MS What I ordered: • GZ-BLFGT “Sammich” • Side of Turnip Greens • Sweet Potato Fries ⸻ GZ-BLFGT Sammich – 9/10 According to the menu, this sandwich comes with fried green tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, bacon, lettuce, and homemade “gitback” sauce. What I received was fried green tomatoes on Texas toast with the sauce and lettuce, but it was missing the bacon and mozzarella cheese. It caused some confusion at first, but I still decided to try it—and honestly, it was delicious. The flavors were great, and the homemade sauce was amazing. I do wish the bacon and mozzarella had been included, because they would’ve elevated the overall flavor, but even without them, the sandwich was very good. Despite the hiccup, I would definitely order it again. ⸻ Sweet Potato Fries – 10/10 I’ve had sweet potato fries all over the country, from homemade to frozen to everything in between, and these were very good. I’m not sure if they were scratch-made or prepackaged, but the taste was excellent. They had a lightly sweet dusting—almost like a soft sugar or brown-sugar blend—that complemented the natural sweetness of the fries without being overpowering. Dipped in what tasted like homemade ranch, they were even better. Easily a 10/10 and something I would order again. ⸻ Turnip Greens (+ Cornbread) – 10/10 As someone born and raised in the South, I have to admit—my great-grandma might fuss at me—but these might be the best turnip greens I’ve ever had. They tasted homemade, like something cooked in a Southern kitchen with tradition behind it. Perfectly seasoned, rich, savory, and balanced. They were flavorful without overshadowing the other dishes. They also came with a small muffin-style piece of sweet cornbread that reminded me of Jiffy (but it could’ve been homemade), and it paired perfectly with the greens. I loved it and would 100% order again. ⸻ Atmosphere & Staff – 10/10 The atmosphere was amazing. There was a live band playing, the place was clean, and the crowd size was just right—not too packed and not too empty. The bartender and front-of-house staff were courteous, kind, and knowledgeable. The establishment also has pool tables available; I even played a few games with the staff, which added to the fun. The vibe was chill, warm, welcoming, cozy, and entertaining. If you want a spot that won’t overwhelm you but still has great energy, this is the place to go. ⸻ Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Ground Zero Blues Club absolutely delivered. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in town.
Real Blues! Good food, incredible service, and very amazing music! We went on a Thursday, and they had open mic night. As an entertainer, I signed up and hit the stage with the little trepidation about playing a new venue with people I didn't know. As it turns out, there was no need for my concern. The musicians were all season veterans with incredible sounds, and they literally busted their tail to make me sound good, although they didn't even know me! The staff was great, and we got to talk to Mandy for quite a bit since we got there early. She patiently answered the dozens of questions we peppered her with. If you want to hear some real blues, this is definitely the place!
Awesome atmosphere. We went in to just have a look around but we ended up spending some time here having drinks and playing pool. The staff was great and very friendly. Well worth a visit if you pass by
You go to Ground Zero Blues Club for the music - which is fabulous. We had dinner their - no frills but the fish was delicious. The staff super friendly & laid back. There's a couple of pool tables if that's your thing. A good size dance floor. This club looks abit like a rundown warehouse, which for people who maybe aren't used to poor areas, might worry them but don't be. It's basic seating & tables, a really good bar. It's closed Sunday to Tuesday at the month we were in Clarksdale (September 2025). I wish we had got to Clarksdale on a Wednesday or Thursday- i would definitely have gone back every night. Although there are other live music venues in this small town. Miss T - the booking manager was a real sweetheart & gave us advice about other places to visit in Clarksdale. The standout is the local people who run the place & the music.
This was our 1st time here, although we have been to the Biloxi Club several times. The music was great and the atmosphere lively. Although the bartender didn't seem to want to be there and was on her phone constantly. I had the nachos which would have great except for way too much sour cream and wet cheese.

A very cool store with its own piece of history! Ask the owner about how the store got its name, the name even inspired a vodka company! It’s got tons of art including posters and stickers and such. Lots of music and CDs. Stop in for the cool air too haha
Like everyone in Clarksdale, behind the counter man, Levi, was very friendly and helpful. I came across, and bought, LPs of Mississippi blues music from the first three decades of the 20th century. The only exception to that was my purchase of an autographed copy of Charlie Musselwhite's just released CD.
This should be your first stop in Clarksdale for a great selection of Blues music, the schedule of which Juke Joints have music night to night, and whose playing in town. They have some cool local art, posters, and the like. The. owner has a wealth of knowledge on interesting things to do in the area.
My favorite place to shop in Clarksdale, MS. Customer service is top notch with owner Roger Stolle and countermen Frank and Levi. Say hello to Ayler pug if she’s there.
First pace to stop when you get to Clarksdale. Find out where the best music is for the week, pick up some CDs or vinyl , and get some souvenirs.
Cat Head is a must visit if you come to Clarksdale. The store is full of amazing art and music dedicated to the blues. But most importantly they are like a main artery for all the blues activity going on in town. So it's a place I always stop to get my bearings before seeking out all the amazing music.
Perhaps almost a museum of folk art and blues history masquerading as a unique shop with books, music, posters art and trinkets celebrating the local area and scene. Frank was also quite conversational and friendly and gave some insight about the local community which was appreciated.
Tons of cool things to see. Albums, CDs, books, art, collectibles and all things Blues. Signed copies of Roger Stolle's two books are available.

I loved our weekend in Clarksdale. It was the weekend after 4th of July so it was like we had the town to ourselves. The monument is great for a photo op but there is so much more to do here. To add to the experience, we stayed at the Shack Up in the Pinetop shack. There are tons of great murals throughout the town especially the one at Morgan Freeman's club called Ground Zero. It was a lot of fun just to bar hop along the main drags taking all of it in. This ended up being one of my favorite couple trips!
This stop has a lot of history tied to the Blues, but the town itself seemed to be struggling, which was sad to see. If you’re already passing through, it’s worth a quick stop, but I wouldn’t recommend going an hour out of the way just for the sign in the middle of the street—it’s tricky to get a great photo. While geocaching here, I also came across a plaque about Ike Turner. His musical contributions are noted, but it’s important to acknowledge the harm he caused in his personal life. 📍 See more of my travel + geocaching adventures: 🎥 TikTok: @diamond.in.the.rough.78 📷 Instagram: @grandmalovestotravel
We drove over here after visiting the Delta Blues Museum and learning more about it. It was cool to see. It is at an intersection tho so be prepared to do a u-turn of you don’t see the parking place and if you want a good picture without the sun casting shadows on it.
Clarksdale Mississippi is one of the friendliest places I've been to a long time Blues festival was small but intimate and just full of fun and food from the many vendors was delicious.
Just one of those things you have to do. The pics with the railroad crossing is the original location according to locals. The highways moved over time.
Good for photo opp, not much else but Clarksdale MS is worth the visit, give it 2 days at least, the Delta Blues Museum is a must and make sure you visit the tourist center, great & helpful staff.
Its a busy intersection on the main strip, not a good place to stop for pictures
Was easy to park on the side of the crossing. Great mural at Abe's bbq which is in the same spot.

Fantastic collection of stuff, including local legends, but limited history/details, although the staff are worth having a chat to.
Excellent and rich information.
A big collection of records, posters, objects that have made the history of the blues and the rock and roll. A must see place in Clarksdale.

I just returned from my second Mississippi Delta Blues Music bus tour organized by Salem Travel in Salem, IL. We spent the second night of our tour at the Hambone Art Gallery and Bar for another night of music and fun. Stan Street is the proprietor Hambone. Stan is an artist, a multi-instrument, highly talented musician who regularly performs at venues around the globe. He's a real character and lots of fun to be around. When we arrived at Hambone Saturday night, Stan met us and said he was short handed that night and we'd have to keep track of our drinks and settle up at the end of the night. The next minute I found myself behind the bar serving drinks to my fellow tour members. The night started out great and was on its way to being crazy great!! One of the delights of going to Hambone is you never know who's going to show up and play music. Kingfish, a major blues music star and Clarksdale resident, occasionally appears unannounced at Hambone to perform. The night we were there, Stan played tenor sax, Joe played the guitar, and another musician provided rhythm on a washboard. It seemed like an odd combination of instruments, but they played the blues and got the crowd moving. Stan had the band jumping, the dance floor was hopping, and business was good at the bar. Everybody was having fun and enjoying the music. Hambone is a loose, casual, comfortable, and easy place to hangout. You're surrounded by wonderful art while the music flows in and around you. Stan Street is a gracious and welcoming host. It almost feels like you're walking into Stan's living room. There are big, soft, comfy couches for you to lounge in. Plenty of nicely spaced tables and chairs to sit at. Of course if you didn't like the way the seating was setup I'm pretty sure you could move it around anyway you liked and Stan wouldn't care. The stage is a step above the floor and is close enough to create just the right amount of intimate space between the musicians and the audience. During breaks Stan and the band stepped off the stage to mingle and chat with the audience. It was really nice, and by the end of the evening you feel like you have a connection with the place. It makes you feel like you want to come back...
Stopped here for some blues music during a mini vacation. The music and art were great! They have a small bar so you can enjoy drinks while absorbing the atmosphere of the place. Everyone met and talked to here was so nice. We picked up a Robert Johnson print to take home so we can commiserate on our trip. You'll definitely want to stop here when visiting.
Awesome meeting Stan, having a drink with him, talking music history, and buying some of his artwork! Live music, and a great whiskey selection too! Hopeless Hambone!
Stan Street and friends delighted us with a classic Mississippi Delta Blues jam session with a variety of entertainers. We enjoyed Hambone so much that we visited several times during our Clarksdale weekend. I
Stop here, enjoy a cool drink and the AC - but most importantly say hi to Stan, the wonderful owner of Hambone Art & Music. He will be able to tell you all about Clarksdale, as he is a very active member of the close-knitted community that lives in this town. Besides being a great human, Stan is also a musician and artist. His art pieces come in every size and will be the perfect original souvenir to take back home! Live music every tuesday.
Great night listening to "Reverent" Roberts. Met Stan Street as a wonderful host, working hard, like most of Clarkesdale, to keep the sound and those vibes alive. Thanks Stan!
Stan is such a legend. I love playing here with him and other musicians. Great place and great art too. I own an art print from here and some shirts as well. Great atmosphere and great art and music.
Stopped in while I was just checking out Clarksdale one Saturday afternoon. Stan knows his stuff and loves what he does. It was one of the highlights of my trip. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This is such a unique and interesting place to stay. Loved the Pinetop shack and people that work there are amazing!
We had an absolute blast at this bar during the 2025 Juke Joint Festival! What a fantastic spot – the atmosphere was electric. Seriously, just go here; you won't regret it.
Great place to hang out on a Monday. Cold beer, live music, good company. They even had free pulled pork nachos. Amazing.
Went for the music - sorry, no dinner. Great venue / staff / entertainment! Definitely a 'must-see'!
We only learned about this place after we had lodging for the night but it would have been fun to stay in one of the shacks! We did walk the grounds & enjoyed seeing some of the old machinery. Very cool place & history
We were there for the Pinetop event, and it was a great experience.
We had an awesome time...The Atmosphere is so amazing...The Staff were very friendly and helpful....This place is the ultimate blues venue...And the band (David Daniels & the ShareCroppers) were awesome...hope to see them again there in the future!!! A big thank you for your hospitality!!!!

Clarksdale is an amazing and authentic experience but like most travel it requires context to truly appreciate it. You can try and read up on your own but there’s no way you’ll come close to what you will learn with Chilly Billy. My wife and I spent 3 1/2 hours with Chilly Billy. Communication prior to meeting was outstanding. He arrived on time in a clean late model jeep. He asked us enough questions to help tailor our tour then off we went. The tour included natural features of the area, visits with local musicians and artisans, the levee system and of course the local musicians scene . Chilly Billie knowledge on all was extensive and his ability to communicate was outstanding. Bottom line, a must do if you are new to the area. Recommend strongly and enthusiastically!
I reserved a three hour Delta Bohemian tour with Billy as part of a surprise birthday trip for my husband. I wasn’t sure what length to select, but chose 3 hours in hopes that Billy could fill it with interesting information about the area. Oh, my! First, it was a HUGE hit with my husband. Secondly, as time passed and Billy enthralled us with agricultural, cultural, economic and historic information, I wished I had scheduled another hour! He is an absolute gem that should be uplifted by the Clarksdale community and surrounding areas. He also gave us fabulous recommendations for food, entertainment and more areas to explore. What we came away with more than anything, is an appreciation for the people, the way of life and the culture of the Delta. We saw it with different eyes than when we rolled into town the day before. For that, the time with Billy and the tour was priceless!
We had a great time on the tour with Billy. We learned a good deal about the area and its history. My husband and young adult daughter enjoyed asking questions about significant people and the economy of the area. Billy was professional and put you at ease!
BEST THINGS TO DO IN CLARKSDALE - WITHOUT A DOUBT BUCKET LIST - MUST DO! I stumbled on this gem, searching for info on youtube. A video recommendation, pointed me directly to Bill (My wife and I swear he looks like a more refined Ozzie Osbourne, with lighter hair). lol. Anyway when we travel, we like a private, more informative tour, to understand the history, and the best spots to visit. Not just the touristy thing. You can get that anywhere. I see people walking the town. Thats ok and all, but if you really want to know more about the town, the resources, the history of the music, the inside stories, you have got to get a tour from Billy. Billy is such a smart, energetic, kind, and knowledgable guy, he will make your understanding of this historical town, something that you would never experience, simply walking the town and taking pictures. We saw things that we never experienced in our first visit to Clarksdale. If you're looking for the best things to do in Clarksdale, start with this. You may also, want to stay at the Shack up inn. Both "Bucket List" things to do. Tell him Monty and Mary Deane, sent you. You will not be disappointed!!!
Chilly Billy was a great tour guide! He knew about all there is to know about Delta Blues, the sites, and the artists. My wife and I would highly recommend at least the two hour, perhaps the three if you never saw the levees up close.
We took the 4-hour tour with Chilly Billy and it was such a fantastic experience. He provides such great insight on the Delta including the land, agriculture, history, music etc. We came away with a much greater understanding and appreciation for the way of life in the Delta. He's from Clarksdale, and you can tell he has a passion for the area and for educating others. He was an absolute pleasure to spend time with, and we can't recommend the tour enough. It exceeded our expectations. If anyone is taking a trip to the Delta, we highly recommend starting off with this tour. It gave us an even greater appreciation for everything else we experienced later.
My sister booked this tour for us when we can over to visit from Australia, and what a treat! Chilly Billy pulled the absolute best of Clarksdale into three hours. If you're going there to experience the Delta Blues without Billy, you're only getting a tiny fraction of what the town has to offer.
In a 3 hour tour, Chilly Billy showed the beauty of an oxbow lake from the rim of the levee, the pecan groves that sheltered Muddy Waters as he grew up, and three possible crossroads where Robert Johnson may have lingered. With the passion of a "hometown boy" he shared his love and knowledge of the extraordinary delta. He also shared recommendations for music, food, and hidden gems to explore. My husband and I had an unforgettable stay in Clarksdale following his guidance.

What a place! Fantastic atmosphere. We were there on the Monday night to watch Reverend Robert play along with Stevie (harmonica), Preston (bass) and B (drums). The music was fantastic. The staff were super friendly - thank you Maxine. We ate there as well - the food was simple but good. They only sell wine from a box, bottled beers or soft drinks!
We visited for breakfast and the live blues band. The staff was pleasant and the show was very entertaining. The food was decent. Nothing I would make extra effort to eat at again but not bad. The furniture and building is obviously dated and in poor shape like most of Clarksdale. Nice spot to hear the blues but if you are looking for fine dining, this is not it.
Went to Bluesberry Cafe for their Sunday Blues Brunch and didn't know what to expect, but we were impressed! There was fantastic live music playing, which really set the perfect vibe. For food, I had the ham and cheese omelette – it was incredibly cheesy and packed with these amazing, large chunks of ham. My wife got the French toast, and it was huge! It looked like big slices of baguette, and it was wonderfully soft and dense with a ton of flavor, topped with fresh fruit. Definitely a great brunch spot for the food, the price per value, and especially to hear some live music if they have it going on!
A cash only local Cafe. The staff are friendly. There was live music when we went for brunch (11am). Prices reasonable. Fairly limited menu but it suited us. The French toast or waffles are delicious. My friend had scrambled eggs, bacon or ham & hash browns. The cafe had a unique interior with loads of memorabilia. Would definitely go back.
Utterly nice and heartwarming experience!! Passed by with my family for a Sunday blues and breakfast. Super tasty and filling. A full meal right there. And the Blues? Great live performance by Bridget Ferguson with a vey special guest performance by Watermelon Slim. This place is not to be missed and while you are there, take a stroll in town. You will not regret it!
Loved this place Great staff so friendly Lots of food choice that was amazing and had live music whilst we ate. Thank you
Good time listening to music. The food could use some work but very friendly people
Come for the Italian dinner in Monday’s. Stay for the live blues music. Staff is very engaging and the vibe is eclectic.

Fun place. Step into some history here. Deak gave us a personal concert with his guitar and harp. He played with all the greats. He knew his harps and discussed how he builds custom harmonicas. Great visit.
Deak Harp's store sells custom made harmonicas and Deak, is a nice guy and certainly knowledgeable about harmonicas, Saxophones and more. He has stories to tell and wall to wall history all around inside his store. Well worth popping your head round to say Hi👋🏼🙂
After hearing Deak at Hambones we stopped in this shop the following day. What an entertainer! He invited us to get a beer out of the fridge as he pulled out his harmonica and began to jam. A short stop turned into a mini-concert and a dialogue about the blues. Harmonicas and collectibles are available for purchase. He’s the real deal.
Deak is one awesome dude, ran into him randomly across the street admiring a mural (which he is even on!) and he told me about some of the folks and building and then went to his shop and so much history there and then he set me up with a harmonica with my preferences and explained what he was going to do and did and made sure it worked right and EXTREMELY satisfied! Also TOTALLY get a copy of his CD and it’s awesome!! Thank you Mike!!
Such a cool guy and laid back atmosphere
You cant go to Clarksdale and not go to Dekes. The place is a museum and Dekes hand makes some of the best harmonicas in the world.
No visit to Clarksdale is complete without stopping in to Deaks Mississippi Saxophones & Blues Emporium. This is the place to get that one of a kind custom harmonica or just stop in and say hello. Deak is always eager to tell a story or even get up and play a song or two. Highly recommend visiting here whenever your in Clarksdale.
Deak is great, did a performance for us while visiting his shop.

Awesome vibe! Great place to see live music and chill !
One of the coolest music venues in America - a real shame it's only open a few times per year. The service is always friendly and efficient. But the real draw is the incredible open-air venue - an old movie theater, the shell of which (barely) survived three decades of neglect (except for the central roof)! The improvements made by the new owner to the lobby and balconies are significant and very cool. There's a small, enclosed indoor stage and bar in addition to the large "outdoor" stage. If only it were open more often...
Fantastic, creative venue with a great vibe and stellar live music. Wonderful staff.
Saw Super Chikan here, WOW!
Such a fun time & cool place. Love that there's no ceiling- amazing to look up at the stars & feel the breeze on a hot Mississippi night. Locals were incredibly friendly & fun and the blues band we saw was fantastic! Definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Clarksdale
I have been coming here for many years, and I enjoy this place. One of the best venues in Clarksdale Ms. I would highly recommend this place to tourists during our numerous blues festivals.
There's several funky little joints for live music, but Roxy is the premier venue. Bigger and better and certainly not lacking in funk of it's own, Roxy is a revitalized old movie theatre with a small bar and stage in the lobby, and a large stage in the back where the theatre was. My fave spot for music in downtown Clarksdale.
I love this place! Lena & Robin are the best and the constant work they put into the Roxy makes coming back feel like home and a new experience all in one. An absolute must when in Clarksdale!

A Magical, Mind-blowing Mississippi trip with good friends and the amazing John and his crew. We were so well looked after. We paddled in Quapaw hand crafted Canoes, guided with expertise, knowledge, humour, spirituality and kindness. We camped on the sandbanks amongst stunning nature and wildlife and ate the most excellent, freshly prepared food created daily for us. Woke to a warming fire every morning with hot coffee brewed early. Enjoyed a daily paddle down river and shared stories, music and laughter around the fire every evening. It was an experience I will treasure forever and never forget. Thank you John and crew for a wonderful week full of spectacular sunrises and sunsets, swims in the river, nature, wildlife, good food, music, art, poetry, good friends and lots and lots of laughter. Karen x
John Ruskey said, "May the river be with you." And I replied, "and also with you." To live it is to know it! Paddling in Quapaw's canoe on Big Mama Mississippi river is soulful. John is a phenomenal, caring, talented and knowledgeable tour guide. I am the river and the river is me💙🤎
Just back in the UK after a week long trip with Quapaw. Amazing experience, the views, wildlife and food were amazing. John Ruskey and his team of experienced guides made this a truly magical experience for everyone. The pace is just right and caters for all levels of age and fitness. If you are looking for an active holiday and enjoy the great outdoors you really can't do better than this.
Quapaw offer a unique experience to explore the Mississippi River. I've been returning (all the way from the UK) to paddle and camp on the big river with Quapaw for many years now and their expertise, service, fire-cooked meals and community set-up is incredible. For anyone craving adventure, wide-open spaces, magical photo opportunities, sandbars full of footprints and the perfect escape from "real" life, John Ruskey and his crew have 26 years of experience guiding safe and memorable trips in all manner of non motorised water craft. If a canoe or SUP trip on the Mississippi appeals to you, look no further than the Quapaw Canoe Company
Magical experience - a week exploring the Mississippi with Quapaw, we paddled down river in beautiful hand-crafted canoes, always looked after by our fabulous guides, camping on sandbars, each day waking to the magic of this big river, delicious meals cooked on campfires, cowboy coffee before an early morning swim, always time to relax and be inspired to paint or marvel at the occasional tow move barges along the river, evenings singing by the campfire and stories from the river. It sure was magical, thank you Quapaw, a little of my heart remains there on the Mississippi 💚
Amazing trip, led by John & supported by Heather, Sarah & Ceili, made us safe & comfortable on our 6 day trip on the river. Wonderful campfire food, coffee and songs. John knowledge immense. I would recommend in a heartbeat.
Traveled on an overnight trip with John, River and 2 other team members. Originally slated to be a 2 night trip, the tornado weather necessitated a change. We explored Clarkesdale and John hosted us for dinner at his house. Dinner was amazing. We set out the next day and the entire experience was amazing. A group of 8 or so guys all out for an adventure. We camped that night and found out the food they make in the kitchen is just as good (or better) out on the beach of Island 62. John, River, Whit, and Lee took good care of us. Gave us space to enjoy ourselves. We never felt rushed or pushed. They are all beautiful souls. I thought this would be a once in a lifetime experience but I plan to return often and bring others with me. Go and experience the wild Mississippi River in a safe way with skilled guides, amazing food, and thoughtfully curated moments. Cheers!
John Ruskey and his team know the Mississippi River like no one else. Beyond their technical expertise and top-shelf gear to keep you safe on and off the water, they go above and beyond to serve and keep you comfortable. Hand-crafted meals, thoughtful conversations, space and time to do your own exploring, and incredibly detailed information about the deep since of place the river holds along the way, with even some live blues music! John is a special soul; kind, content, present and sincere as his capable, mysterious, wild, and wise. It is evident he cares about pouring into his crew and equipping them to keep their guests free from injury and surprisingly comfortable. Couldn’t imagine creating let alone finding a better company to realize all your Huckleberry Finn, mighty Mississippi River adventures. Bring your friends for a weekend trip, get some couples together for a fun weekend, or wrangle your kids for a weekend they’ll never forget with Quapaw! Can’t wait to come back, 10/10 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YEE YEE!
