My biggest concern on going to this place was if I would be too "fluffy" to get through the passage. I am also a bit claustrophobic. These two things made me very nervous. I can tell you that it is very possible to do even as a very pear shaped 280 LB person. There are the 60 stairs at the end, but they are concrete, with solid handrails and the step rise is reasonable. So if you struggle, position yourself to the back of the line, and you will have less pressure to move quickly. I found the tour guides patient and funny. I focused on taking pictures to get through it mentally. The place is lovely overall. I do find the ticket price a bit high, but I find every ticket price high lately. To be fair, it is in line with the many other attractions and museums etc. The place does allow water bottles in the cave, I wish I had realized that upfront and I was very parched at the end. If I could do it over, I would take my nicer camera. I took an older one just in case.
Took my family here for the first time and we all had an amazing time. Our tour guide Dan was very knowledgeable and did a good job on the tour. My kids also enjoyed the gem mining activity. The place was nice and clean, and they really did a good job preserving the cavern.
We've made it our mission to see all the caverns in Ohio and this is supposed to be one of the best and most colorful. The price is comparable to the other caverns (which is obnoxiously high) but we found ourselves walking out a bit underwhelmed. The tour guide was enjoyable and knowledgeable but the colors were seriously lacking for such a big claim. The formations and columns were cool and you end up going seriously deep underground but I enjoyed the self guided tours at one of the other caverns more than this tour.
We had SO much fun at the Caverns. Wonders around every corner and so incredible! Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The gift shop was spectacular and all the staff were helpful and pleasant. So blessed to have this place in Ohio. The kids also enjoyed the gem mining activity. So cool and exciting to see what they reveal in their bags. 10/10 experience. Thank you!
The Ohio Caverns were beautiful and worth the almost hour trip. Any longer probably unless you’re a traveling cave fanatic. Anyways with that being said the staff there is very nice and understanding my daughter bought tickets in advance but accidentally thought she for them for the weekend we decided to go. Unfortunately it was for the following week but they went a head and lets go that day instead. The tour guys are very knowledgeable as will. As for the cavern itself it is nice. But beware if you have claustrophobia really bad. I don’t recommend they will tell you how deep you are. If you are scared of the dark they will turn off the lights for a few moments so that you can see how dark it is if you were down there with no lights. But they will warn you before they turn them off. I also don’t recommend it for handicap people which need a walker, or wheelchair after all it is a cavern so there are low place and tight places and you have to climb 60 stairs to get out of the cavern. Now if you have a hard time walking after you make it out or if you are a elderly person who decided to go down with a cane they will send someone with a golf cart to take you back to the gift shop. You are allowed to take pictures with your phones with the flash on but not allowed to take video which is understandable since they do give you information about the caverns. If you can’t afford the caverns they do have a free trail of trees to adventure in and a lovely park; picnic area to eat and enjoy the view, and a nice gift shop to spend your money on for all those people who love all types of rocks yes I am talking about all you geologist. Lastly and most importantly if you are lucky to get to see the caverns please don’t touch the rock or the quartz down there there thing a have grown for thousands of years and will be there still growing even a small can take up 4,000 years to grow just that size. They are beautiful so please keep it that way so that everyone can see for future’s to come. Why I am saying this is because they showed a once beautiful peace of nature that they called a lucky stone that they used to let people touch on the way out that is now looks dirty from the oils of our human hands. So just be respectful and take photos and keep hands away.
We were staying at Indian Lake State Park and didn’t have many plans. Saw something for the caverns so decided to make the trip down and check them out. I’m glad we did. We did both the Historic and Natural Wonders tours. If you just want to see stalagmites and stalactites the natural wonders tour is perfect. If you like history and want to learn a little more about the area and discovery of the caverns then do the combo tour, I’m glad we did both. The caverns are 54 degrees year round. It’s been in the 90’s for the past week. I took a sweatshirt on the first tour but ended up being hot so left it in the car for the second tour. The colors are really neat and have some really cool designs. The formations are always pretty as they are always so different from place to place.
We did the nature tour and it never disappoints. Our guides were knowledgeable and their voices carried well throughout our group of around 10-12 people. My granddaughter enjoyed seeing all the formations in the caverns and wants us to take her cousins when they're in town for a visit.
I did both the history and natural wonder tours( recommend both) It started with the history tour and how it was discovered. There's not a lot of formations in this tour ( explained why in the tour) The natural wonder tour was amazing, each room we entered was beautiful. You will however hear the same jokes on both tours. But both guides were great

Wanted to leave a fresh review after coming back 5 years later. The grounds and garden are still beautiful, and the architecture is fantastic! The Piatts have a lot of both local and national history dating back to General Washington, you will find there is a lot of new things to learn about in these walls. Great location as well, with great eating such as Uncle Beth's nearby along with Ohio Caverns if you wanted to make a full day in the area. Everyone on site is friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
The historical Piatt home is unique and the grounds are nicely kept and peaceful. We visited and explored the outdoors, but felt that the admission charge was a bit excessive for a self-guided tour of the home. Part of the home is "off limits" as a private residence and it appears that other areas of the grounds are private as well. We enjoyed the architecture and found some of the signage interesting. I wouldn't venture out of the way to visit--but, if you are in the area, it is an interesting piece of local history.
A beautiful home! Wish they had a video about the history of the property. Too much to read. I took pictures of all the plaques, and can hopefully read them all at a later date. All the antiques were amazing! Even found a tunnel running from where the green house use to be to a part of the yard. The very last picture is of the Mac a Chee castle that is not currently open to the public but is being turned into a wedding venue. And we did not walk to check out the log cabin that's still standing on the property. That's older than the castle itself. We're older folks and can't do all that walking after viewing the first floor and the second floor of the castle. But the grounds are beautiful around the house.
What a wonderful place to visit while you are coming down to see Ohio Caverns. We'll worth the money and it is amazing that it has the original furniture, exquisite woodworking, great tour guide...
Beautiful home. Very well preserved with great history. The docents working were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and plus. Loved this place and so glad the owner allows tours.
So peaceful and serene here! The tour was self guided but the caretaker was friendly and answered questions as needed. A portion of the home is off limits as it is occupied by family members. Entrance fee. Discount given for AAA membership. No parking fee.
Very interesting, lots of artifacts to look at, to know more information about the family and how many generations that lived there and still is,how many acres they started with.
Only open on weekends. Didn't know that. Stopped by on my way home. Right down the road is a cemetery with Piatts buried there.

I purchased tickets in advance for my daughter and myself to zipline on a vacation. She was incredibly nervous about ziplining in the weeks leading up to the trip, and although she was excited when we arrived, definitely succumbed to her anxiety when it came time to take the first leap. Our guide, Mac, was incredibly patient with her and knew just how to break down the task at hand into easy steps. He met her where she was at and we worked back up to the treetops after some practice rounds and treetop challenges to get her feeling comfortable. Once she did her first zip, she was SO into it. I am so incredibly grateful to Mac; his expertise and patience were exactly what my daughter needed to conquer her fears. Zipline tickets were like bravery lessons! Thank you so much!!!
Highly recommend this place! My wife and I took our 4 children here and had the best time! Our guides Mac & Maci (Maddy😀) couldn't have been better, they were so friendly, informative, and patient. And Terry was so helpful getting it all set up for us over the phone, since we are from out of town. Thank you so much, we will be back!
Came with my kids for Fathers Day weekend and had a great time! Mac and Joey were fantastic guides and kept the activities fun, funny and adventurous. Highly recommended!!
Staff obviously love their jobs. Friendly - super kid friendly- safety minded, and fun! Absolutely beautiful surroundings, lots of trees. Highly recommended. Be ready to put some effort in, you hook yourself in and brake for yourself. This adds to the fun imo.
Markin Farms ziplining is the best! My visit was a surprise for my birthday from my husband, and it surely didn't disappoint! It was both of our first times ziplining, and we had a blast. Our guides Mac and Lori were the best - both great people, great guides, with a great sense of humor that put us right at ease. We loved it there, and we'll definitely be back! Thanks for making our first time a great time, and making my birthday extra special!
This is a really good starter course especially if you aren't sure how nervous you'll be or if you have kids that are timid about doing it. We had two kids (11 and 16) who were very nervous but the guides were super patient and had the kids zipping through the trees in no time.
I had bought a zip package for my family as a get-together activity. It was the beginning of November and a bit chilly but we made it out and it was very worth the time (and cold!). All in all, this is a wonderful beginner's course and comparable to higher ziplines (I've been to one in Hocking Hills). The area the course runs through doesn't seem as large and it is not as high (I think the highest we were was around 35 ft) but there are a lot of fast zips and fun detours. The people of Markin Farms are also genuinely nice and easy-going. (They also have a great dog!) My mom is terrified of heights and this was also my family's first time ziplining. Our tour guide, Mac, was extremely patient and friendly. He got my mom through the whole course, making it very enjoyable for everyone and bringing out a more adventurous side of her. Thanks for a great zip!
Always a great time when we go ziplining. Our guides made it a lot of fun for the kids! Pricing is great! The owner is really nice. He came and talked to us made sure we didnt have any questions! Such a nice place and nice people!

Candy store
Slide 1 of 8
Marie's Candies is a family tradition for us. This small family business started by Marie King. In 1941, polio struck Winfred King, a young, hardworking Ohio farmer. The disease put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Over the years, friends and neighbors helped his young family. To express their gratitude, Winfred and his wife, Marie, began giving gifts of homemade candies. What began as a loving gesture in a country kitchen eventually grew into a successful venture that began providing a living for this industrious couple. Marie's Candies opened its doors in 1956, and its reputation for old-fashioned, high quality candies spread across the countryside. The kitchen and retail candy shop quickly outgrew the walls of the small house. In 1966, Marie and Winfred built a combination house and candy shop in West Liberty. Their second son, Jay worked in the candy business with his two brothers during his teenage years. After the death of his father, Jay continued to work in the business taking ownership in 1977. The family continues to run the business today. We each have a favorite candy from Marie's. They also have a website and ship candy across the country. Every customer is treated like a treasure.
What can I say this is a top tier candy store. The ladies working were all extremely friendly and genuine, patient, and generous. The store itself is very clean, well put together, and aesthetically pleasing, all while being warm and inviting. I feel like you step into the place and you can tell a lot of care, attention, and investment is put into the experience. As for the products themselves, well as you’d expect upon entering this place, they’re amazing. Everything I tried was impressive. The selections is also superb, from staples and basics to some harder to come by options, and even some cool little gifts. Whether you’re close by or not this spot is worth taking a trip to. 10/10, highly approve.
Great little candy shop! Love the historical depot and all the cool stuff decorating. The chocolate are amazing! They were giving it samples of chocolate covered grapes and my wife said they were amazing!! We will be going back!!
This place is a gem. First of all it an old train depo, and I think they said that the 4th generation of Marie's family is working there now. Just the history of this place alone will make you want to come. But the bonus is that the candy is made right there. You can watch them make it through the window. They have so many different chocolates to choose from. Great little place to stop and take care of your sweet tooth.
Love love love this place. The most amazing chocolate and candy. We bought licorice, dark chocolate, Buckeye chocolate, etc. The list is too long for here. It was such a warm, welcoming place. I would easily come back.
Must stop everytime we visit since my childhood. Hands down the best chocolate you will find. So cute inside and always friendly fast service!
The chocolates are divine and the store is so cute with the friendliest staff. I’m so glad we stopped by while we were in town. Appleseed Creek Cabin had Marie’s chocolates in each of our rooms and we had to stop by for some to take home!
Chocolate is incredibly expensive, and tastes way too sweet. (IDK on anything other than the chocolate.) Still I'd go here again out of nostalgia's sake or to try some things. People there are friendly.

Kara has the best candles! Better than Yankee, better than bath and body, they burn clean and are very fragrant as well as affordable! That's not to mention the other houses she has!
I had some candle jars refilled at the store. These candle jars were the three wick size from bath and body works plus two slightly larger jars. I brought them home eager to try one out and whereas one candle from bath and body works can fill my entire two story house with fragrance - the fragrance from these candles couldn't be smelled when you were standing directly by the lit candle. Total waste of money - the 7 candle jars I had refilled weren't even worth the gas I spent driving to the shop. If I could give them a negative rating I would. Very dissatisfied!!
Love Kara beautiful store!

Good atmosphere, Great food, plenty of beer choice / beers on tap including local breweries, friendly staff checked in regularly, plenty of parking and close to the entrance, handicap accessible, cool store attached to the restaurant with lots of items from local vendors from. Large wine selection, local butcher in the freezers with beef and pork. If you have a sweet tooth they have you covered from candies to baked goods. There’s also a deli area in the back. If you’re just passing thru there’s also a drive thru. In the warmer months there’s plenty of outside seating. Let me know what you think.
Wonderful little discovery for us! We had lunch at the Pub and grill and the food was delicious. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Nice menu with many choices. Food prices are great. Good size helpings. Great selection of beers. On the Market side are Homemade candies and sweets. Amazing cuts of meat. Lots of special gifts and decorations and candles. The staff was amazing and very friendly. Cool place that you should check out. Will be on our list for weekend drives from Beavercreek for lunch and a beverage.
We had my husband’s 60th birthday here. Great atmosphere, great food and drinks. Our waiter, Tyler was awesome. Took care of our group of about 35 people plus other tables throughout. Definitely recommend to anyone having a party or just to stop and eat. Thank you
Live music was fun, nice little gift-shop area with a huge selection of everything from beanie babies to wine to purses. Food and service were good. We got the queso fries and would definitely order that again
Our best decision was choosing seats at the bar! We enjoyed talking to the other patrons and Nick the bartender was friendly and helpful. The food was a bit disappointing, as much of it was bought precooked from an outside vendor. However, the fries were tasty and so hot that we couldn't eat them for a few minutes. I don't like it when my leftovers are put in a polystyrene container, and I like it even less when my food is served in it. I also was wondering why the glasses overhead were so cloudy, but once I was served I found out that it was because they were plastic. Real dishes would have been preferable, but I know some restaurants have chosen to go with disposable during the pandemic so maybe that's temporary. Overall, it gave the impression of a Cracker Barrel with alcohol--as one is dining in a store. Not my preference, but it seemed to be popular with the locals.
Great place to check out if you're ever in West Liberty. The store had lots of things to offer in snacks and libations. The diner area was large. The food was pretty good and they had quite the selection of beer. I got the Jake Pizza sans Bacon. It was pretty tasty. I recommend stopping by.
Stopped in for lunch & loved it! We had a black & blue burger, deluxe American cheeseburger and an order of breaded mushrooms. Burgers were cooked perfectly to order and were full of flavor. Mushrooms were great too, you don't get a tone of them but they are good. Service was excellent. If you're looking for a place that puts its emphasis on great food, great service and cares a little less about decor (the restaurant part isn't fancy), you've got to have a meal here. We'll certainly be back.
Amazing food , very friendly service . Would totally recommend. The server / bartender is super skilled . He timed the drinks perfectly and had the forsite to bring the pie out as soon as we were done eating.. absolutely an amazing place . Keep up the good work bartender ! Your leading the place with amazing service ..
