Nonprofit nursery specializing in California native plants, plus ceramic pots, custom soil & books.

The premier source of California native plants in LA, Theodore Payne has a wide variety of native plants and seeds in their nursery. They also have an established garden so you can browse the plants when they’re fully grown for inspiration. If you’re new to native plants then it’s good to view the garden, as the plants for sale are usually very young and it’s difficult to know what they’re going to look like if you’re unfamiliar with them. Each plant in the nursery has a very helpful sign with all the info you need to know, but ask the staff if you’re still not sure. They also offer classes here if you want to learn a lot more about native plant gardening.
Great selection of native California plants. Organized by different habitat types (chaparral, riparian woodland, coastal sage, desert) & with signs explaining plant care & requirements, it's easy to find what you need for your garden & at inexpensive prices. The employees are knowledgeable & very helpful. * During the COVID-19 pandemic, they are taking precautions with reservations of time slots to visit the nursery, brought their indoor store to outdoor stands, have signs all over to ensure patrons wear masks, & sanitizing stations throughout. They also offer online purchases with pick up as an option.
Great plants at great great prices. People are very friendly and helpful.
The plants and environment are terrific. The service was insulting, especially because most native plant places are run by such wonderful people. The whole time we were browsing, we listened to a loud posse of young women employees gossiping and dissing people, even slagging another employee after he walked away. When I asked help finding a plant, one of them, her feet literally stretched in front of her with ankles crossed where she sat, looked at me and drawled, "Well, I could show you if you want." Yikes. How did she get the job? Such a fine organization as Theodore Payne deserves better representatives.
The Theodore Payne Foundation is a great organization. They have an awesome nursery where they sell all kinds of native plants, trees, bushes, groundcovers, etc, etc. They also sell seeds, have a great bookstore with lots of interesting gardening books and gardening tools, and a number of other things. I also noticed that all of the staff were very helpful and friendly! The grounds are also very attractive.
Lots of native plants. Good prices, informative and helpful staff.
The best California native plant nursery that I know of. This nursery has been around since 1960 and I only found out about the place in 2016. My life was considerably made better after the fact. They have an extensive library of plants and their mission of preserving native flora should be applauded. With the nursery's help I've expanded my collection of plants and learned quite a bit of botany along the way. I've volunteered with them many times and each time was unique. The seasonal sales are very good and they occasionally have books out for free! They may not always have the plants I need, but the staff is quite good at guiding me in the right direction on how to locate the plants. All of the staff are very good at their jobs and have led me through the process of planting starts and sowing seeds. During late winter and throughout spring the nursery also carries bulbs for anyone that is interested. Their website has a catalog of their inventory and a California Native Plant Database. The seed collections that they carry are really nice and they also have some apparels and accessories. I have a shirt of one of my favorite native plants and one that I found at a Swap Meet in 2018 (the shirt was from 1994!) The Annual Garden Tour is a prestigious event that I hope to be a part of in the future, but I suggest that anyone does volunteer for the event if they are interested in plants! The nursery also has a custom seed mix service for any specialty lawns and whatnot. I highly suggest that any Angelino and even any Californian to check this amazing place out!
Hidden gem in Sun Valley and a peaceful place to while away an hour or two. Had we known about the pergola-shaded picnic tables beside the main office/seed shop, we might have packed a lunch—such a pleasant setting! They allow dogs and our group (ages 32-70) enjoyed an easy hike along the Wild Flower Hill Trail. There's a picnic table at the top of the trail too (and great views to boot)! The native plants for sale in the nursery are accompanied by informative signs—an enlightening way for Southern Californians to browse, understand, and restore their local flora.

I really enjoy visiting this place. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help. The beer selection is excellent and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and I often end up meeting new people. It is a spot that always feels welcoming and fun.
San Fernando Brewing Co. is a pretty cool spot with a solid lineup of beers. They’ve got a good variety that caters to all kinds of tastes, whether you’re into something hoppy, malty, or easy-drinking. The taproom has a laid-back vibe and is a great place to hang out. The only downside is the parking situation—it's a bit limited—and the surrounding area isn’t the most ideal. That said, the beer and atmosphere definitely make it worth a visit!
First time here today at around 1pm on a Sunday. Seems like the perfect time to come before the rush! I ordered a flight, beer was immaculate and the staff was incredibly friendly! They have street parking that is easy to find and a nice patio area. I will absolutely be returning
Great atmosphere on the night before Halloween. Music was great, loud enough outside but able to talk at the table. Beer was great! Ipas stouts a d barley wines! Loved their themed beers too! "Marty mc rye " ale was the Cherry on top for me!
Great spot! They're celebrating their 10th year and one of their beers is a 2025 World Cup Beer winner. Family owned. Great vibes!
Quaint. Great place, great time. Was hoping for food, but no trucks so we wandered down the street, ordered takeaway from U Crave and wandered back. The beer and the ambiance were great, the service impeccable, the staff welcoming and friendly. Thanks.
Located in the heart of San Fernando Valley, this award winning brewery surely brings delicious beer into your palate. Place seems small from the outside but it's actually huge inside. Must try their award winning O'melveny Red Ale, 7.5% ABV, 21 IBUs. They can also make any beer into a michelada. You can also enjoy their free popcorn and pretzels. Friendly staff, props to sexy Marissa :-)
Good beer and vibes. When I went on Friday July 13th they had a DJ playing great music and I had the best shrimp taco I've ever eaten from the food truck, Tacos from the Heart.❤

Hidden from my eyes, this is the best place to take kids for art classes. My boys love it and they even got to present their projects in the exhibition. Teacher was a sweetheart, and talented people work so hard for their work to be appreciated, the exhibitions are one way and finally got to see one in action.
I am actually in a show there right now. Awesome little gallery with some amazing art!
This is one of San Fernandos best kept secrets. Beautiful gallery space, great artwork by local artists. The space also provides cultural events such as concerts, art films and documentaries, and special classes for youth. Treat yourself to a gem..
Small gallery tucked in an intimate courtyard. You cannot see it from the street, so the picture doesn't help much. There are new themes in the gallery regularly, monthly I think. Artists are at the opening to discuss their work with you.
An amazing local gallary. Lovely setting and art is displayed tastefully with great lighting and knowledgeable staff who provide insight and add to the experience. Can't wait until next show.
REALLY ENJOYED it . The art beautiful . Gift shop too .
I love the public events that are held here. The art pieces are unique and enjoyable to admire. More people should be coming here!
New shows frequently. Sparkling clean and neat. Painting classes, yoga and other classes available. Angie is the best!

Nice historic building in downtown San Fernando. The structure is adobe - which was invented by indigenous Californians - and the style is nouveau American/Mexican-Spanish Colonial (the building was constructed in 1882 - California became part of the US in 1850). But the mixture of styles is what makes the structure so interesting. Pleasant garden nearby with bathrooms, which are now closed.
Visiting Lopez Adobe on the fourth Sunday was a delightful surprise—this Monterey-style house from 1882 feels like a Victorian dream, complete with hand-cut turquoise railings. The volunteers explained its restoration history with such pride that I couldn’t help but be impressed. It's a small residential gem tucked near the mission, yet feels so remote. The Spanish-Victorian decor inside helped me imagine San Fernando's earliest days. If you're into architecture or local history, it's absolutely worth the short trip
May of 2021. This review is for casa de López located in San Fernando City within Los Angeles county. Also known as Lopez adobe house, it has been renovated and restored by the city of San fernando. It is considered to be one of the oldest houses in all of San Fernando valley. Originally made out of adobe and reconstructed with modern material. I'm not guilty, to say that I absolutely love history and I absolutely love how this house is represented aesthetically. Very good job to the city of San fernando. It has been here since 1881
My mother's OB/GYN had her Medical Practice here. She signed my and lil bro birth certificates. I even took Mom to an event here MANY yrs ago.
This historic building is a testament to Spanish design and heritage in Los Angeles.
Theirs a nice Spruce, planted on the property.
It smells sooooooo good

Active locals hit this expansive green valley for many hiking & jogging trails, plus picnic areas.

Love this trail. Walk along the creek, with various levels of difficulty, a pleasant stroll for all. Safe for kids and pets though always remain vigilant for their safety. It is the home of wildlife after all; rabbits, squirrels, birds, frogs, snakes, lizards, coyotes, and more call this place home.
Limekiln Canyon Park is a hidden gem for nature lovers. The park features beautiful hiking and walking trails shaded by trees, making it a peaceful escape from the city. It’s great for a relaxing walk, light hike, or simply enjoying the natural surroundings. There are picnic areas with tables, perfect for family gatherings or quiet lunches. The park is very dog-friendly, and many people bring their pets along the trails. Restrooms are available, which is convenient for longer visits.
My wife and I came here today since the weather was nice with some clouds. My wife needed a nice walk in nature to release some stress so I figure this would be a good place. I tried doing the street parking which there were some before Corbin on Rinaldi or on the other side too. My wife wanted to use the bathroom first so I just parked my car at the Porter Ranch town center and walked from there to the hiking trail. It's a pretty good trail about 1.7 miles and has a nice small river so you can enjoy the sound of the water. When we made it to 1 particular spot with a swing and tire, I think that was the end of the trail so we stopped.
Shade, birdsong, and a gentle creek—exactly what I wanted on a warm morning. The path weaves through trees and has a couple of offshoots if you want to wander. Dog walkers were friendly and kept their pups leashed. There are a few benches where you can just sit and listen. Easy to forget you’re in the city up here.
Nice view and strolls. I’ve been on my nature vibes lately and def appreciate coming here. If you enjoy an exclusive hike with some nice views and nature vibes, come on by to Limekiln Canyon Park There were also amazing river flows and I love it 🥹😍 Nice place to come by yourself or with someone. Not hard of a walk and relaxing 💜
It's honestly a nice, simple steep uphill hike. It's really good if you want to build endurance. Most of the hike is hiking next to a river. Some deep spots to jump in and bathe, then continue your hike.
I 💕 this park . It has its on Creek very long . I don't like the fact that a lot of people don't have their dogs on a leash. Not safe at all and there is some graffiti 🤬. They should clean up the dead branches too and make it look more presentable, beautiful. I went at winter time it's beautiful lots of greenery on February. It's a wild park no benches no restrooms. Apparently no rules for dogs on a leash people🐕‍🦺.
This park & trail is located close to Chatsworth & Porter Ranch. The trail path has a stream that flows with shady trees and is close to residential area. Easy to hike with kids and family. Has a few picnic tables in the beginning of the trail.
