Trolley & factory tours are offered at this picturesque site with acres of tea plants & a gift shop.
Slide 1 of 8
This is my 2nd visit. The trolley tour is a fun way to learn the history behind this unique place. The free factory tour is quick but highly informative. There is a large gift area with many nice mementos. Don’t forget to sample the large selection of hot and cold teas also.
First of all, if you want to be one with nature, definitely stop by. If you love tea but don't know the process, you can learn more here. But I'm warning you, don't get your hopes up. :) It's a small business, and I'm sure they make more money from the gift shop and the troll tour than from the tea itself. The troll tour takes you to the tea fields, but since you can't get out of the vehicle, you only have to look at it from a distance. The gift shop offers hot and cold tea. However, I'm not much of a tea person, so I guess I didn't like it very much. (I've been on similar tours in England and Turkey before, and they were much better.)
We skipped the trolley tour and just did the free factory tour. Really interesting to learn how tea is made. The free tour is via a video on multiple tv screens. It’s informative and only took about 15 minutes. The shop had some products that seemed local, but most stuff is not made in the US. However, we still enjoyed the tea store. The plantation was beautiful and the drive in was stunning. Totally worth the visit!!
Had a great time learning how tea is harvested and made at the only tea farm in the United States. Trolley tour around farm was very informative. Gift shop was awesome. If you are in the area, it is a must see.
What a fun visit! I had no idea that the main teas were all made from the same plant. The video is very informative and will give you an approximation of the magical qualities of tea leaves. The gift shop has a lot of interesting items.
Spur of the moment side quest. 💯% worth it. The trolley tour was a beautiful, educational and entertaining experience. Our guide and trolley driver was great. We enjoyed ourselves beyond belief.
I came with low expectations and left with surprisingly high realizations. The trolley tour was more fun than I thought that it would be. The tour guide (Kimberly? I'm sorry if that isn't your name) was hilarious. The actual ride of the tour was not particularly special but the guide made it fun. I tried to watch the factory tour videos but someone released about a dozen ankle biters into the building. They were loud and made watching the video impossible. Still, seeing the process was interesting. They had free tea tasting samples. I might have indulged too much. Can tea make you drunk? Anyway... we ended up having a lot of fun. If a fat, middle aged, bearded white guy can have fun, so can you.
Great tea learning opportunity with friendly staff and fun and super interesting trolly tour the factory tour was good too the have free tasting of all both hot and cold and an awesome gift shop. Beautiful grounds and large restrooms everything is clean and well kept.

Ashton was the best and really made the trip. Vineyard and wines were awesome! Really pretty place and great outdoor seating. Fun activities set up around with great access to the vines too! Our dog loved the area and watching the chickens. I cannot wait until they bottle that Banana Mead!!
Me and my two friends visited in September 2024. This was a very beautiful, very relaxing place to grab a drink and just hang with friends. We tried some different mead flights and just about everything was delicious. They were only a couple that I wasn’t big on, but definitely was able to finish all of our drinks. They even had some alcoholic slushies. In the back there are several tables, corn hole and other games you can play outside. It’s also dog friendly. They had a few other animals there as well that you could walk around and look at. They also have a small gift shop where they sell their own bottled mead and other gifts. Very friendly staff.
My boyfriend and I came out here last Saturday to celebrate our four year anniversary. Unbeknownst to us, there was an event going on which included vendors, food, trucks, games, etc. It made the day together so much fun & so much more memorable. We loved the wines we tried in the tasting too. To top our 10/10 day off, while visiting some of the vendor tents & trying on jewelry, I accidentally left my late mother‘s ring. I didn’t notice until after we had gotten home, but immediately called them to see if it had been found. Luckily, it had been found, and they had been keeping it safe for me. Thank you to deep water vineyard for making our anniversary so memorable but for also keeping my ring safe another week. We will be back so soon, of course to get the ring, but to also support a local business that has shown extreme care, kindness, and professionalism towards their clients/customers.
During my visit, we stopped by the wine tasting and had an excellent time. It’s a small, local winery but also very busy. The guide was helpful, fun and the wines were tasty! You also get a couple dogs to help make sure you’re eating all your crackers. You definitely get quite a few options and afterwards, we had time to purchase any bottles we tasted. We went into the vineyards to walk around and take pictures. I had the pleasure of meeting the local cows, ducks, and hens. It was really nice! Had no idea Charleston had their own vineyard. Def worth checking out (if not for the cows alone!!)
Little bit of a drive, but it was a lovely setting. Enjoyed a wine tasting with a souvenir glass to bring home. Staff was very kind.
As a local, Deep Water is a staple. If you're visiting it's something you should be checking out before you leave the area. Don't be put off by the drive to Wadmalaw it's worth the trip. The service is always amazing, the staff is friendly, the drinks are phenomenal, and it's always a good time with friends and family. They have a lot of different events throughout the year you can enjoy. There's usually food trucks on site but you can always bring food/snacks to enjoy in their outdoor seating.
Great winery full of southern charm with the kindest employees. We enjoyed fun tasting with a knowledgeable and personable host, as well as live music and food truck. Made for a lovely Saturday afternoon and a highlight of our first visit to Charleston. Owners were extremely kind and their passion for winemaking and people shown through. On our list to visit again next time in the area and took a couple bottoms to enjoy at home.
Was a cool experience we got to head here after the tea plantation recommended it and was glad they did! Will be coming back later for their mead festival and love the wine tasting experience!

Received a lovely tour from a woman working here. She knew a lot about the sturgeon (obviously) and was very insightful. they are magestic fish for sure. I had no idea the government was even studying them. It was amazing. I wish they had more of them though, several empty tanks that could have held more. The boardwalk was pretty and a nice walk. The water was very Brown and we didn't see any life out there unfortunately.
Got lost looking for for a vineyard, but stumbled across this place. Just did the self guided tour, as you appear to have unfettered access. Absolutely beautiful grounds. Well worth the trip.
Cool place to visit... A tour is very helpful and learning about the sturgeon. Nice little meandering walk around the property. Beautiful trees and views.
Upon entering the hatchery, the initial signage is misleading. Go to the right and head to the maintenance building where the main office is currently located as of March 2019. The staff was very knowledgeable at the 1pm tour. The year around tanks hold sturgeon of varying ages. Shad and redfish are seasonal stock. Shad for only a few days in spring and redfish for a few months over the winter. A species of frog is also being studied. Nice boardwalk on the self directed walk.
Well cared for and plenty of signage to assist with your visit. The staff is helpful. The property is interesting. Easy walking and parking. I really enjoyed the solitude and connecting with nature 🤣
Not sure if there is an unadvertised lunch hour, but we showed up shortly after 12 & could not find any staff members anywhere. Our kids have the Blue Goose Passports they were hoping to get stamped, & we, of course, were hoping to see the actual hatchery. We walked around for over 30 minutes & never saw any signs of staff. We tried both buildings (the signage directs you to one building that has a sign on it indicating that a different building is now the main office).
Really cool little spot to visit if you're in town...many tanks of Atlantic Sturgeon of all ages. We went on a Friday when tours aren't scheduled...however one of the staff members (Jeana?) was so kind and showed us around a bit! Beautiful views from the boardwalk too! We were the only ones there!
Seriously?! Showed up at 1:00 pm on Wednesday. Several government cars parked as well as 2 private vehicles. Nobody to be found at any building. Doors are locked, and multiple signs stating areas are closed. Tried calling and got a recording that verified they should be open. Looked around again, and nobody. A worker drove by in a truck, and kept going to a "closed" area. Nothing! Complete waste of time. Your tax dollars at work.

Great Marina and a great group of do thanks lead by Bo the dockmaster. There is a strong current but these guys made it easy. The facilities adlee very nice and clean and there is a nice area outside to sit and people watch, seems to be popular to watch the sunset. Quick 10 min walk to a shopping area with a Harris Teeter to stock up. Great Marina will definitely stop by again.
The facilities are of good quality. The location is less than a mile from a very nice shopping area. The restaurant next door has live music. The river is a good anchorage. My only complaint is the high fee to park a dinghy. They ask $20. The fee is the most we ever paid in five years of cruising the East Coast, Caribbean, and Gulf Coast. Maybe they want to encourage boaters to take a slip instead of anchoring.
The boat was very nice and well equipped. The staff was extremely helpful and professional from a thorough briefing about the boat and the area to helping us with the docking. ( There can be a pretty good current when the tide is changing)
This was a little gem with lots of wildlife. The people who worked here were very accommodating. They even called our last day before giving away our spot. The T heads were a bit noisy due to the strong currents on the river, but it was well protected for the 45 Knot winds that we had to deal with. It is not close enough for an Uber ride to Charleston, but if the Charleston marinas are full, this is a great backup. John's Island had a grocery store and many cute shops. We really enjoyed the area. Decent parking lot as well. The outdoor restaurant had live music every night, and it was good music, not loud and penalizing. I would go back to it again.
My Favorite Spot to Wind Down Every Sunday after my Long Retail Weekends. Perfect outdoor area to Enjoy live music with a spectacular view-Try to catch the Sunset! I am Always Happy when Alan Price is performing and my Yorkie enjoys it too.
I’ve rented from a lot of Marinas, but I’ve never had it this good. Very well staffed and run, from Bo, the manager, to Gracy at check-in, and Clayton the deck hand (just to name a few) everyone ran a tight ship. Got us in and out quickly, accommodated some off the menu requests and delivered EXCELLENT customer service. Pricing was inline with other outfits but boats and personnel were head and shoulders above any other group I’ve worked with. I don’t post often but when I’m genuinely impressed and grateful I want to pass that experience on. Enjoy.
I've hardly left my house in the past couple years (had a baby, pandemic, etc) and walking around the marina at sunset made me feel like everything was right in the world. Live music, outdoor dining, ice cream, boats everywhere, and the best spot in the area to watch the sunset. And the sunset was incredible. Thanks for arranging that for me!
Bohicket Marina stands alone in its ability to provide customized world class service for every visitor! Thanks to its location on a branch of the North Edisto River, sunsets from every slip are one of a kind! The entire leadership team consisting of Beau, Pat, Gracie, and Riley consistently exemplify what it means to be a yachtsmen and a friend!

Just enjoyed a beautiful afternoon picking strawberries at Ambrose Family Farm, Got a chance to chat with Pete Ambrose and Patty. They were enjoyable to talk to and very helpful. We loaded up on farm fresh vegetables and a jar of honey! We will be back again soon ! GREAT, Outdoor Family Fun !!!
The only strawberry plants I saw were long dead and nobody available to guide us. The site was not very tidy (I’m being kind). No signage of hours. Farm site we visited was within a land conservancy / equestrian establishment; we entered gate and went left.
Produce was high quality. Fields were well maintained and on site people were great at directing you to best area for ripest fruit. Eggs, asparagus, carrots, strawberries all amazing. Highly recommend experience for all ages.
U-pick strawberries $4.50/lb. "The Hangout" is their farmer's market. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables!
Farmer Pete and his family and staff are amazing! Been picking strawberries here nearly a decade, never a bad experience
Came by with the family to pick some strawberries at their U-Pick strawberry patch. Amazingly luscious berries, just ready to pluck off the stem. Filled our baskets in about 10 mins while our little one munched away on a few stolen gems. The pictures are timeless. The prices are on par with what you pay for supermarket strawberries. But the quality on these is absolutely stunning. The farmer said they also offer U-Pick blueberries as well so we'll be back! Support your local farmer. This will be an annual stop for us and recommended as an activity for visitors.
Came to the farm to check out the produce as our family wanted to join the CSA. I mistakenly came to the actual farm instead of the market, but the woman helped me anyway and took me to their stock cooler to choose what I wanted. The variety was full of seasonal choices and great quality. I appreciated her time and we also had a delicious dinner- and joined the CSA.
Sweet strawberries, GIANT carrots too. Honey with & without the comb. We really enjoyed our picking time here. Owner was so kind too. We really enjoyed our time out at the farm.
