Nestled on Johns Island near Charleston, the iconic Angel Oak Tree is a breathtaking natural wonder that captivates visitors with its grandeur. Towering at over 65 feet and boasting an impressive canopy that spans more than 180 feet in diameter, this southern live oak is believed to be between 400 and 500 years old, making it one of the oldest living organisms east of the Mississippi River. Its sprawling branches, some reaching down to the ground, create a dramatic landscape perfect for photography enthusiasts.
Simply Magical. The park was pretty much a dozen of trees and of course the main attraction, the Angel Oak. It only is breathtaking. Angel Oak was free to visit and free parking. There wasn’t a lot of parking, but we got lucky with parking on the road. It was very peaceful and not crowded when we were there. There are some portable toilets and a small gift shop. It’s definitely worth the trip.
Lava K — Google review
Incredible to see such a massive, historic tree in person! We stopped for about 15 minutes on our drive from Hilton Head to Charleston, which was the perfect amount of time to take it all in. There’s a small gift shop and restrooms on-site, along with plenty of parking. Other than the tree itself, there aren’t additional attractions, but the visit is well worth it.
Andrew L — Google review
The Angel Oak Tree is truly breathtaking massive, peaceful, and full of history. Standing under a tree that’s over 400 years old was such a magical experience. The area is well-maintained, and there’s no entry fee, which is amazing. You’ll find benches to sit and soak in the beauty, and it’s a great spot for photos. Parking is free but can get full during busy hours, so try to go early. Highly recommend adding this to your Charleston trip.
Nikita T — Google review
This is a short stop, but worth the time and drive. There are picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch and enjoy it near the tree. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop. Parking is limited. There is no space for uber drivers to sit and wait for you.
Kristen G — Google review
These pictures and almost every other picture I have ever seen of this Oak tree doesn't do it justice. It is so much more beautiful and larger than I thought it was. I am so glad I was able to visit.
Ashes — Google review
Just beautiful. Live oaks are spectacular and this is a supreme example. There are often painters selling works of the tree and a gift shop with some items of interest. There are bathrooms available: porta potty and trailer style. Don’t expect to get crazy instagram photos because you cannot climb on the tree, do yoga or handstands on or around it. You can walk all around it and rift up to it.
John G — Google review
Paying a visit to Angel Oak on Johns Island is well worth the pretty 30-minute drive from downtown. It is one of Charleston's most photographed icons on Johns Island: the Angel Oak. Known as one of the most beautiful trees in the world, Angel Oak is another Charleston treasure. It is between 400 and 500 years old, making it one of the oldest living trees east of the Mississippi, and its canopy shades more than 20,000 square feet. The gorgeous tree is 65 feet high, with a circumference of 25.5 feet. Pose next to its long limbs. Angel Oak is only a 30-minute drive from the city, and the surrounding park offers free admission
Sanjay G — Google review
This is a very special place. If you were anywhere within 100 miles you need to come see this marvel of a tree. It is breathtaking and completely in its natural surroundings. Pets have to stay 100 feet away and they have portable bathrooms, but don’t let that stop you, come see this wonder.

Park
A beautiful old oak tree is the centerpiece of Angel Oak Park, which is located on Johns Island just west of Charleston. This park is a great place to visit if you want to get a little bit of shade and enjoy some peace and quiet. The tree is estimated to be over 1,000 years old, and it stands 65 ft tall. It provides 17,000 square feet of shade, making it an awesome spot to relax in the summertime.
It had been 20 years since my last visit. Things have changed, Back in the day on a visit and you would be alone with the tree... now there are tour busses, signs, cones, and roping. A genuine tourist attraction. It is still impressive and worth the visit. I really enjoyed chatting with the artists and even bought a print of a rendering.
Michael B — Google review
What a magnificent tree! Definitely worth the visit. Not a lot of parking so be prepared to walk a ways down the dirt road. Modular restrooms that were clean. Pretty nice gift shop with a variety of souvenirs, including postcards.

Beautiful tree, must take the trip to see. Free entrance and parking. There is parking along the dirt road where you drive in. The area is protected by a fence. There is a small gift shop, very basic local items. It was a bit disappointing with no information plaques.
Aimee L — Google review
Beautiful tree. Lots of signs, gift shop closes 30 min before they official close. I understand the need for signs but they were everywhere. It was nice you could touch the tree gently.

TRULY Magical Place to visit during your stay in Charleston! Just 25 min outside the downtown area - what a fairytale place! It’s my 3rd visit and I just love the views! Just to think how much has happened in the world while this magnificent tree was slowly growing! MUST visit! Cute gift shop, plenty of parking along the road.
Katya K — Google review
Really cool (and free) place to come hug a giant ancient oak tree. Plenty of parking on the dirt road as well as handicapped parking inside the fence right beside the gift shop. There is also a bathroom trailer and porta potties. Cold drinks, snacks, souvenirs inside the gift shop, as well as live basket weaving while i visited.

Farms
Ambrose Family Farm, formerly known as Stono Market, has been serving fresh produce from their family farm since 1987. The Tomato Shed Cafe was established in 1992 by Babs Ambrose and in 2013, Barbara Ambrose became the co-owner. Visitors can enjoy U-Pick strawberry and blueberry patches with luscious berries at reasonable prices. The farm offers a variety of seasonal produce and also operates a CSA program for those interested in joining.
Just enjoyed a beautiful afternoon picking strawberries at Ambrose Family Farm, Got a chance to chat with Pete Ambrose and Patty. They were enjoyable to talk to and very helpful. We loaded up on farm fresh vegetables and a jar of honey! We will be back again soon ! GREAT, Outdoor Family Fun !!!
Brian C — Google review
The only strawberry plants I saw were long dead and nobody available to guide us. The site was not very tidy (I’m being kind). No signage of hours. Farm site we visited was within a land conservancy / equestrian establishment; we entered gate and went left.
Carl F — Google review
Produce was high quality. Fields were well maintained and on site people were great at directing you to best area for ripest fruit. Eggs, asparagus, carrots, strawberries all amazing. Highly recommend experience for all ages.

U-pick strawberries $4.50/lb. "The Hangout" is their farmer's market. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables!
Adrian N — Google review
Farmer Pete and his family and staff are amazing! Been picking strawberries here nearly a decade, never a bad experience
Mike W — Google review
Came by with the family to pick some strawberries at their U-Pick strawberry patch. Amazingly luscious berries, just ready to pluck off the stem. Filled our baskets in about 10 mins while our little one munched away on a few stolen gems. The pictures are timeless. The prices are on par with what you pay for supermarket strawberries. But the quality on these is absolutely stunning. The farmer said they also offer U-Pick blueberries as well so we'll be back! Support your local farmer. This will be an annual stop for us and recommended as an activity for visitors.
Patrick S — Google review
Came to the farm to check out the produce as our family wanted to join the CSA. I mistakenly came to the actual farm instead of the market, but the woman helped me anyway and took me to their stock cooler to choose what I wanted. The variety was full of seasonal choices and great quality. I appreciated her time and we also had a delicious dinner- and joined the CSA.

Sweet strawberries, GIANT carrots too. Honey with & without the comb. We really enjoyed our picking time here. Owner was so kind too. We really enjoyed our time out at the farm.

Low Tide Brewing, established in 2012 on Johns Island, offers a unique Lowcountry experience. Despite its remote location, the brewery's rustic charm and community-oriented atmosphere make it a popular destination. The brewery's beachy vibe complements its focus on crafting beers designed to pair with food, collaborating with local chefs and restaurants to create distinct flavors. Visitors can enjoy the Basil Better Have Honey beer while taking in the natural beauty of Johns Island.
Such a cute brewery and they have homemade soda as a nonalcoholic option! I was told that they switch out the food truck, but when we went it was Italian food, which tasted great. We came here to celebrate my brother and sister in law right before getting married and they were very accommodating with all of the people that came.
Brianna D — Google review
Had a fantastic time at Low Tide brewing in Johns Island, South Carolina. They had a very cool and large indoor and outdoor space. Tons of seating. They had a lot of amazing beers. Many different styles. I had the sour and it was incredible and my friends had the seltzer and the IPA and everyone loved their beer. Service was very swift and friendly! Would definitely go back next time I visit.

I loved this place and the vibe. Great spot to stop off for a pint. Reasonable prices on beer and merch. Very female & family friendly ( bathroom stocked with female products & changing table in the bathroom) They also know what food trucks they are getting each day. Picnic tables offer large space to bring your own snacks or play cards. We had a great experience. I will say my favorite thing is the postcards they have to buy and will mail out for you. What a cool idea!
Whitney C — Google review
Fantastic place to grab a drink The servers were all super nice and friendly and conversative. The slushy of the week was a margarita and was strong but tasty The beer selection was excellent and the merch was well stocked and I love the $10 mystery t shirt option! The bathrooms were also very clean and well stocked And there's a local artist wall you can buy art from All in all, good vibes, good people; an excellent brewery I hope to visit again soon (and I'm sad I can't get their drinks closer to home 😢) 10/10 would recommend
Ali B — Google review
Had a great time here! Staff and space were great. Plenty of brews to suit just about anyone’s needs and a few seasonal options such as the Santa Brunch that was impeccable. The inside had live music and plenty of bar seating or tables. The large outside patio and fire pit were perfect for friends and family. Great pizza food truck on the night of my visit that really hit the spot but some snacks are available inside as well. If you’re staying in Charleston it’s a bit of a hike but good things usually are.
Justin C — Google review
Low Tide brewing is an exceptional place to hang out and enjoy a nice crisp adult beverage. Aloha beaches will take your taste buds on a enjoyable surf experience full of flavor! And dont get me started on the awesome announcement board they have behind the bar. I could stare at that sign all day due to the satisfying change over it makes between messages. If you're visiting Charleston and you like quality local beer, then add this place onto the travel itinerary.
Kevin S — Google review
Stopped by with my girlfriend on the way out of town because they had a food truck out front (s/o Drunk Tony’s, which was delicious). The beers were creative and well-executed, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the space was beautiful. My girlfriend wasn’t in a drinking mood, so she got their homemade craft soda which was also delightful. Also want to shout out the tasteful beach/ocean themes. A lot of times when a brand goes all-in on one theme, it’s corny and overplayed, but the names and descriptions of all the beers were genuinely fun and the decor was perfect. We had a delightful experience and wish we could have stayed longer!

Johns Island, the largest island in South Carolina, is known for its scenic live-oak lined roads and charming delights. It was a filming location for the movie "The Notebook" and is home to Angel Oak, the state's largest oak tree. Despite increasing development and traffic, it remains a beautiful place with a rural feel and close proximity to Downtown Charleston. The island offers a great getaway with historical significance and enormous trees that are a must-see.

Okay, my I-want-to-keep-this-all-to-myself self wants to give MHEC a 1-star review and tell you how horrible this place is. LOL! But the truth is -- I LOVE THIS PLACE! We just returned from spending Christmas and New Year's camped there with our horse, jingle-belling our way down their trails and soaking in the wonderful Charleston ambiance. One of the best vacations EVER, and much owed to the accommodating staff---Donna, Dan, & Brian---who made it so. We'll be back! Probably next year!
Melanie R — Google review
Great place for an event. So much room on the field and parking was easy too. I went to an E2M meetup recently and always love the harvest festival. Great venue and nature park.

I came here to see a cross country meet with my daughter being involved in it. It was planned on to rain that day so we wait a little while in the car and eventually parked after paying $5. The place looks really pretty and the grass was cut short. I would like to come back to this place without an event going on and maybe get a taste of what it's really like since this is a park. I noticed there are horse stalls in a couple of horse practice areas.

Went to the first rodeo there to benefit South Carolina Rodeo Association. Was a great time for all ages! GREAT FOOD!! GREAT Entertainment( the clown was hilarious) and it was a delight to see all the young adults participating in the events that they work so hard on!! Mullet Hall is a beautiful place!!

The cost was high and the experience didn't match as advertised! The hot air balloon was a nice sight to see but it lasted only a minute in the air. The operator of the hot air did give us a second ride that was the best part. I will not participate next year!!

Nestled within Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House is a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. As a notable stop on the South Carolina BBQ Trail, this eatery prides itself on serving up delectable Southern BBQ dishes. The menu features an array of top-quality meats that are smoked low-and-slow in true Carolina fashion, boasting signature seasonings and house-made sauces that will tantalize your taste buds.
Wait staff (Natoya and Paul) were excellent! The combination platter with half portions of Brisket and Ribs was delicious. The Four Cheese Mac kinda stole the show though. And that's saying a lot when there's brisket on the plate. The cornbread was not good. Sub it if you can. Same for the Chicken. Too dry and lacking seasoning. The BBQ Nachos with Pulled Pork were great! The kids got the Pulled Pork sandwiches and Cheeseburgers with Fries and loved it. Gorgeous location right off the golf course. We sat inside, but in hindsight would have loved to sit outside. Lots of little gators in the pond!

Restaurant looks very fancy when you walk in. However, ambiance is really laid-back. Food: We ordered burgers and ribs. abundance food, we ordered half rack of ribs, and that was more than enough. Burger was also big. Service: Everyone from the hoat to the waitress was auper attentive. Price: just average Overall, it's not a bad place to go and try.

Just picked up food to take home and didn’t have anything except the Mac and cheese and cornbread but wow! Both were absolutely amazing! The cornbread was so sweet, soft, & buttery & the Mac was indescribable! You definitely have to try it. Truly delicious and would definitely have it again!! 😋

A must try restaurant. Fantastic service (Karen). Pictured here is the Halibut, Ribeye, and Chicken Parmigiana. All fantastic, served hot and perfectly cooked. End w peach pie or blueberry cheesecake cake! The decaf Slow Motion Coffee…excellent. Reservation a must and necessary weeks out (summer months). Tight seating, that was the only reason for 4 ⭐️ not 5.

MUST TRY! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had a wonderful dinner at Wild Olive! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The fried calamari was perfectly crispy and flavorful — definitely one of the best I’ve had in the area. The pasta dishes were fresh and delicious too. A great spot for a relaxing evening on Johns Island! Reservation is recommended 👆

A must try!! I love Wild Olive because you can go fancy or just have a great casual meal. We went for my birthday and we had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We made a reservation because every time we drive by the parking lot is full. I had the elk, it was delicious but needed just a touch of salt. I’m surprised how well the blueberry sauce worked on the plate, it didn’t take away from the potatoes or the broccolini. My wife had the wild mushroom pasta with a cream sauce. That was delicious as well, I finished it for her. I thought the portions were good for the price. We had the coffee toffee cheesecake which is to die for! I could eat it every day! Not too heavy, I could have easily eaten it by myself. The atmosphere was great, not too loud but not dead quiet either. The lighting was definitely dim but not hard to see. The decorations were comforting, like aged Italian vibes. We will definitely be back for another meal, I want to have some fish or pasta next time!

Wow! This has got to be my favorite restaurant in Charleston. The staff is incredible—so welcoming and attentive—and the food is absolutely popping with flavor. The desserts are some of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely go with the cake of the day or the sticky toffee cake—both are unforgettable. Whether you’re coming for a special occasion or just a great meal, Wild Olive never disappoints. From start to finish, the service and food are top-notch. Can’t wait to go back!

Great restaurant. I had lobster risotto which was amazing. Didnt have any alcohol. I had the Blueberry Basil Collins. Definitely one of the best mock cocktails I've had. They do have an extensive wine list. My very picky non foodie husband had Lazy Sunday Lasagna with elk, venison, and rib eye. Very cheesy. Filling. He liked it. Which is high praise for him! Busy restaurant. Highly recommend reservations. We had a 415 reservation and the place was filled. We sat at high top tables and they were comfortable. You did not feel like you were stuck in a corner. Atmosphere is comfortable. A bit dark. Not a problem but our old eyes had trouble reading the menu. Enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner! Wish I could remember our servers name. He was excellent. There when you needed him and very kind. Note: they do not have domestic beer.

GLORY! This food was sent from above!!! Everything we had was amazing! From the focaccia & sourdough with special condiments to the chicken parm to the pappardelle....AND, the warm butterscotch blondie brownie with homemade apple gelato, toasted pecans, and caramel....DIVINE! Oh, and my daughter had the blueberry mocktail - it was so good! I can't say enough about the service - everyone was warm, welcoming, and attentive, especially our server, Gracie! Ask for her and tip her well!
Erica G — Google review
The first time I went here in 2021, I thought it was mediocre. Then, after constantly hearing my friends say how phenomenal the food was, I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did because this has become my go to Italian restaurant. Go with what the reviews say are good and it won't disappoint. Any of their pastas cooked with meat they do a phenomenal job. I always have leftovers because the portions are huge. The atmosphere is romantic and cozy, inside and out. The servers were always accommodating all of the times I went. They get busy fast so I recommend getting a reservation. We got the Sunday Gravy lasagna and lamb ragu special. The bechamel and the elk/venison/ribeye on the lasagna were very good. If you like a more hearty dish, go with the lasagna. The lamb ragu was tender, savory, and surprisingly light. Most ragus I've had are pretty heavy. The rigatoni gives the perfect sauce to noodle bite.

Amazing !! Love the vibe - cozy dim lighting & beautiful decor. Waited 1 hr for bar seats which were great. Best chicken parm we’ve ever had - so crunchy & delicious! Lasagna was also amazing. Tagliatelle was forgettable but still good. Broccolini & artichokes were incredible. Will be coming back!

Very kind staff, gave us free ben and jerry's pints they had left over when we asked about their ice cream (when we stopped by their ice cream machine wasn't working). Very tasty food, we tried the hush puppies and they were pretty unique and very delicious! Their desserts were also super tasty. Plentiful outdoor seating as well :)

This is a small little hole in the wall place off of Maybank highway and did not disappoint they have some amazing dishes that have very large portions I chose a salad that I could not finish plus that choice of craft beers in the can, you can eat outside or take it to go but the flavors will popping. Got to try their fried oyster plate next

Honest review: Was recommended to come and try this place out by a local. It was a pleasant surprise, food was fresh, well seasoned, and plentiful. Seating is outside only, so we was lucky enough to come when it was perfect temperature. The lemonade was great, and all treats was very delicious looking. I think they had local beer too, unfortunately I didn’t get to try it. (Had to drive and it was midday) Only food that was just ok was the rice puddin. Would I come back….. ohh yeah!! If you like honest reviews please it the like and or follow button. Have a great day!!!!

Came here randomly on a Wednesday to see what they had to eat. This place is awesome! Local goods, produce, and made to order delicious food! I bought a can of pickled green beans and I ordered the mushroom Swiss sliders with tomato cucumber salad. you can tell these people pride themselves on fresh quality ingredients and the flavors were mind blowing! I don’t think I’ve ever had mushroom Swiss anything this DELICIOUS! What a GEM! I’ll be back

My husband usually gets the chicken Parmesan on Wednesdays but a couple of times it was over cooked and dried out. I ordered the collard greens and this last time they were so spicy and had so many stems in them I could barely eat them. I guess if we order the chicken Parmesan again we will have to request they do not over cook it. It’s very easy for chicken breast to be over cooked. But I don’t believe I will order collard greens again. Just too many stems and too spicy for me to eat. Thank you

Eat here TODAY!! We just happened upon this place and couldn’t had been happier! The food was great, and the people we’re so friendly! You can’t go wrong! If I was a local this would be my spot!

This was a perfect little market to get a fantastic and freshly made lunch, and they had fresh seafood, steaks, vegetables, and premade items such as soups, raviolis, and dips. If you’re here for a brief stay, they also have small deli containers of basic kitchen items like rice, sugar, and oil. Fried shrimp, Asian style salad, and fresh trout with orzo were all delicious!

Had a great meal and experience. Server was marvelous and he helped us have a great meal. Started with oysters which was fun to compare. Then had peel and eat shrimp which was chilled and delicious. Then had yellowtail which was great. Dessert was beautiful and delicious. If in the area we would certainly go back

Came here for our 10 year anniversary, we sat at the bar, the bartender was amazing and very attentive! We called in the day before our arrival to try to get a reservation and was told 5:15 (15 min after open) was the only time available, honestly I’m glad we came earlier than later, the place was popping off even 15 min after open! Highly recommend. Food was delicious and very accommodating, even the experience at the bar was superb.

The Royal Tern absolutely lives up to its name - dining here was a truly royal experience. We had dinner with another couple and enjoyed their company as much as the food! We collectively shared salads and fluffy yeast rolls which were amazing. We had the whole market fish grilled and it was perfectly cooked with crisp skin and perfect scores. The coconut rice was just sweet enough and a great compliment to the salty fish. Another guest had the flat iron steak and it was cooked just as she asked and splendid. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, light, airy, and a beautiful place to enjoy a great meal with great friends.

Everything that hit the table was amazing! Beautiful ambiance inside. We came for my birthday and everyone loved the meals, apps, and deserts! My whole flounder was the best I’ve ever had. Super fresh crab dip, calamari, shishito peppers, and steak. Top notch place for a special occasion or just a nice date night!

EXCELLENT all the way around. Food, service, ambience & cleanliness. And the staff was not only professional but also pleasant. We always do this twice every time we visit Kiawah.

Went for our 35th. Great food. Megan our server was great. Attentive but not overly so. Had flat iron and scallops entrees. Fantastic. Crème brûlée was best ever had.

Third time here, incredible meals & execution! Love the southern atmosphere. Good wine & cocktail list. Table had salmon, swordfish & steak. The rolls (like pillows) & hushpuppies. Can't wait to come back!

Restaurant
Tattooed Moose on Johns Island, SC is a funky tavern offering duck club sandwiches and local beer, with live music and backyard seating. Whether you're in the mood for their famous duck fat fries or a farm-to-table dinner by executive chef Jacques Larson, this spot has something for everyone. The menu features dishes like fresh baked bread with mozzarella, tomato, arugula, and prosciutto di Parma.
Great place to grab food & drinks! Good happy hour drink specials, and a solid house lager. The Thanksgiving Sammy was fantastic, by far our favorite thing! The duck fat fries were good, but needed salt and I was hoping they would be more crisp. The gravy and garlic aioli dipping sauces were good. Street corn was good, but strong on flavor. Good atmosphere inside and out, would be a fun place to get drinks with friends.

We ordered the chicken sandwich, duck fries and chili. The chicken sandwich was very good. As were the chili and the fries. Classic rock music played in the background and the interior was quite rustic and eclectic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a wonderful place to go if you don't mind roughing it a little. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a band and based upon the seating outside it's a very popular place on weekends.

Holy moly! Loved Tattooed Moose on St. John’s Island, we went twice in one day! Such an amazing space. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The service was great - the servers were so friendly and attentive. They had a large beer list - by draft and can. They also have a full bar!!! The food was so delicious and definitely homemade. I honestly don’t know what I liked the most - the corn dogs were crispy, the egg rolls were full of flavor with a delicious dipping sauce. The fries with blue cheese- omggggg 😋 and the pimento cheese- so flavorful and amazing consistency. We then came back later and had some wine and checked out DJ Stix. He played lots of great tunes….. will definitely be back

The atmosphere was outstanding. We loved the graffiti everywhere. We also loved that we could add to the graffiti. It was a fun, lively and entertaining place to go to. The service was good. The food was good but not our family’s favorite. My wife had the Thanksgiving sandwich and found it to be okay. The downside was everything came with pork rinds and you could not substitute out the pork rinds without a pretty large up charge. Nobody in our family loves pork rinds so we left with a large number of pork rinds. The rest of the food was good but the pork rind sort of soured us on the experience slightly. My wife had the stew and loved it. If they would allow you to make a reasonable substitute with the pork rinds it would have made for a better dining experience.

The tattoo moose is a classic bar experience throughout my life I’ve been to many bars, but this place did not disappoint when we first got here we had to wait 20 minutes to get our table, and I was honestly feeling a little bit discouraged due to the wait but those thoughts were shut down as soon as we got to the table our waiter was extremely nice and explain the menu if we had any questions when we ordered our appetizer and meals. The appetizer came out so quickly and it was so fresh and warm. I was so surprised. next came out our meals in a matter of minutes after but a good amount of time between the appetizer in the meal we had enough time to finish the fries, but not enough time to sit around being like where’s our meal at? The food was delicious and once we were done, multiple servers came up to make sure our table is cleared so we weren’t having any dirty plates in front of us. our waiter was super nice and I really enjoyed my time at the tattooed moose. I would definitely recommend it to families or even adult adults to go to the bar because it is such a family friendly environment now I wouldn’t say that that for later in the night because it is open until 2 AM but other than that, it is a very nice environment where you can write on the walls and there’s hardly any obscenities upon the wall. I love the tattoo moose, and I would recommend it to anyone who is staying on the island! thank you!

Don’t let the rough exterior fool you—this place is AMAZING. The Tattooed Moose on John’s Island might just be one of my new favorite spots. It’s only about 15 minutes outside of historic Charleston, but the vibe makes you feel like a local right away. The service was fantastic—attentive, quick, and fun. We were greeted at our table with “Are y’all day drinkers?” and instantly fell in love. The food came out fast and was delicious. The atmosphere is quirky in the best way: writing on the walls and tables, taxidermy, beer-can garland strung up with colorful Christmas lights, and live honky-tonk-style music that fit the crowd perfectly. There’s tons of outdoor seating, a little play area for kids, and even a sandy parking lot that makes parking stress-free. The menu is simple without being boring—tons of beers on draft, a full bar with cocktails, and not an overwhelming number of food options. We tried the duck fat fries with gravy (a must!) and the Moose Burger, which came with house-made pork rinds. Both were excellent. Prices were reasonable and comparable to nearby restaurants, but the vibe and experience here set it apart. 👉 Bottom line: If you want a spot that’s laid-back, fun, and full of personality, Tattooed Moose is a must-visit.

This meal was a full-on flavor bomb from start to finish. The duck fat fries were fried to absolute perfection. Rich, golden, and deeply savory, the way the fat soaked into the potatoes gave every bite a crispy edge and a buttery center. It was like boarding a one-way flight to flavortown. The southern fried chicken sandwich, turned Nashville hot, brought the heat without overwhelming the palate. The pork rinds were a surprise standout. Light and airy with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, they snapped on the first bite.

Shout out to our awesome server and food runner! I didn't get their name, but they were both amazing and I remember our server saying "teamwork makes the dream work!" ZERO DISAPPOINTMENT HERE. AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. I've always loved the moose, but today was especially good. I was almost disappointed to find the #1 gone, but let me tell you, that new lamb wrap is mind-blowing! The collards were good, and I tried the Brunswick Stew for the first time, and why have I been sleeping on this?? Can't leave out my Cuban with extra pickled tomatoes...just WOW. Bravo y'all.
