As a stop on a road trip through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, exploring the Shenandoah Caverns is a memorable detour! Stepping inside feels like entering another world. The guided tour through the caverns is both informative and entertaining, with the guide highlighting some truly unique formations. It is fascinating to learn how these geological wonders have formed over millions of years. The formations are truly beautiful, especially the famous "bacon formations," which were even featured in National Geographic! The cool temperature inside the caverns is also a welcome respite from the warmer weather outside. It is appreciated that Shenandoah Caverns has an elevator, making the tour accessible. Beyond the caverns themselves, explore the other attractions on site, including Main Street of Yesteryear and American Celebration on Parade. These unique additions add an unexpected and fun twist to the visit, and it is quite interesting to see the collection of historic parade floats. Overall, a stop at Shenandoah Caverns is a wonderful experience. It's an excellent way to break up a long drive and immerse yourself in the natural beauty and unique history of the area. If you're looking for an unforgettable road trip stop, a visit to Shenandoah Caverns is highly recommended!
The guided tour was amazing and very informative. Despite the fact that the weather was playing itself, they accommodated the elevator to get our 70 year old mother down/up and avoid taking the ~75 stairs. An amazing place to visit. Plenty of free parking.
Stopped on our way from TN to PA. One of the nicest upkept caverns I've visited. Our tour guide was nice and informative. The special lighting here and there was a cool fun touch. Many rooms to go through and lots to see. Also appreciative of the elevator to get back up vs the 70+ steps!
This is not a full review because, I just happened to be passing through on my way back from Georgia to Philadelphia. I decided to stop for about a half an hour. Take a look around and see what is Shenandoah Caverns were like the welcome center is really nice. Lots of gift ideas and souvenirs. There’s also a little luncheonette they’re not open until Wednesday. Look like it was right out of the 50s. The entrance to the caverns are built right inside the welcome center. It’s been approximately 35 years since I’ve been to caves the last one being crystal cave in Pennsylvania as you seen the pictures it’s 70+ steps down into the cavern. They also have an elevator for folks that need it. Since I didn’t have time to go down into the cavern, I spent time in the upstairs museum of animatronics from yesteryear, pictures speak for themselves what a great place to bring a family or friends from what I understand the tour last approximately an hour and the temperature down below is 54° so you may have to bring a sweater or a sweatshirt. It’s approximately a mile walking.
This was a wonderful cave tour. Maybe because it was only the 2 of us on it. The tour guide was great and answered every question we had. Did not feel rushed at all. Sorry, we forgot her name but she's in the first photo.
This place was so amazing! I have taken my kids to Lurray before and we loved it, but this one was lead by a tour guide and was extremely interactive and geared more towards kids (fun lights, spots to duck through, creating echoes, etc.) We would do this one all over again. Fun facts: Its 73 steps in/out of the caverns but also has an elevator which was nice as my husband was baby wearing our 18mo old. It is definitely cooler down there, but my kids managed in short sleeves as it was summer time.
Amber was a great tour guide, very friendly and funny!! She made the whole experience fantastic. Thank you Amber! Their gift store is also very cute, and they have a section with some pretty cool/creepy puppets before going down to the caverns.
Loved the caverns, great that there was an elevator to go down into the caverns and back up! Our guide was EXCELLENT! Very helpful and informative. Handrails were available in some areas but caution walking is advisable. So glad we did it. The animated holiday display windows on the upper levels were an added bonus!

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at the Yellow Barn, and I couldn't be more impressed with the experience! From the moment I arrived, Ashley, the venue’s coordinator, was an absolute joy to work with. Her professionalism and warm, attentive nature made the entire process seamless for both the couple and myself. She ensured that every detail was handled with care and precision, allowing the day to flow smoothly. The space itself is stunning—large enough to accommodate guests comfortably while still providing that intimate, welcoming atmosphere couples look for. The entire team at the Yellow Barn is dedicated to making each event special, and they truly go above and beyond to make sure everything runs perfectly.
The most beautiful wedding venue! The staff was very polite and helpful! I would highly recommend! We couldn’t have asked for better!
The Yellow Barn is a perfect spot to have a wedding! It is huge and has so much to offer. Ashley the venue coordinator helped by providing different caterers, florist, photographers, DJs and so much more. The communication from the day we toured to our BIG day was amazing. I recommend The Yellow Barn for any large events.
Very beautiful. Kids had a blast with the train running up top. Everything looks very nice and well maintained. Very nice space for weddings and other special events. Love the sign in book to leave your footprint in this special place. Plenty of parking spaces!
Very nice place to stop at. Old farm equipment and old cars to see. Great for kids and growups. It's free to get in. I bet it is really nice for events.
Austin and I toured a few different venues in the area. When we toured the Yellow Barn, we knew it was the perfect place for us. We loved the rustic yet classy feel of the atmosphere and the gorgeous scenery. Austin wanted an outside wedding and I wanted a rustic reception. The Yellow Barn was the perfect place for us and it was the perfect venue to make our dream wedding come true! The staff was super accommodating and helpful! We can’t thank them enough for all the things they did to make our dream wedding a reality!
Anything that's educational and well maintained such as this is getting 5 stars from me. We stopped here after the cave tour to check it out. They have a live beehive inside that the kids spent most of their time at watching the bees work away. The collection is of random well preserved antiques. I honestly enjoyed all of it and would highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area.
We only visited the outside if the Yellow Barn. The outside is well maintained and clean. I love the various options for pictures.

Absolutely mind-blowing! The history, behind-the-scenes moments, and all the incredible float designs were just unforgettable. It’s such an inspiring family-run business, started by founder Earl C. Hargrove and continuing strong to this day. Our tour guide, Robert, was fantastic, he shared so many fascinating details about the float creation process. After the 45-minute guided tour, you’re free to explore the rest of the exhibits at your own pace. Highly recommend for all ages!
Loved the museum. But did not like the main lady's attitude I believe she said she was the manager. For me when you're doing the review a few months later what should not stick out is the negative attitude you encountered. I was too late for the most recent timed Caverns tour and was only asking questions about the whole place as I travel a lot and do many reviews of points of interest that capture my attention. There was a whole lot to take in as you could pan and sift for gems, have your kids play in the play areas, have a picnic, mail stuff off at what seemed to be the United States smallest post office. The was a restaurant, plenty of parking with disabled parking available and handicapped ♿️ access. The was the caverns to explore if you wanted to pay what I call overly priced for the attitude that came with it. Even outside giant made creatures from old parades etc. But my favorite was the really cool animated sets and displays I've shared the pictures of in this review. Overall besides the ladies attitude I will say I was able to warm her up a little and get her to share some information with me I guess the children now own the property as Mr Hargrove passed. Anyways if you're hungry need a break in your travels or a destination worth checking out this definitely covers so many bases. They of course besides many photo opportunities have a gift shop as well.
AMAZING! The tour far exceeded expectations. The floats were amazing to see up close. And the stories and explanations from Robert made it absolutely fascinating. If you’re in the area this is a unique, must see attraction.
This was an awesome place that we stumbled upon. The person there was extremely Informative and knew so much of the history and of the owner. The past floats that had been used in some of the Rose Bowl Parades that are now retired are beautiful. We could only imagine what they looked like with all the flowers on them. So worth coming to and visit. We spent almost 2 hours here and lots of pictures that were taken.
An amazing place to visit. They have a huge facility with tons of parade floats that would have been destroyed if they wouldn’t have preserved them. Book a tour and enjoy some of americas amazing history.
Shenandoah Wine Festival was hosted last weekend and it was a really fun time!
A true find! A must see for parade lovers and very informative guides. Pair it with a visit to next door Shenandoah Caverns!
This is a definite must. Lots of beautiful floats. Stuff on the ceiling and walls to look at as well. Tour guide was great.
