We've visited 3 times in the last two years and every time it has been a good experience. The museum/gift shop is very informative and inviting. The grounds are immaculate and lovely. The free tour of the Roosevelt cottage is engaging.
This was a cool place with a lot of history. There was no charge to enter and they provided a tour of Roosevelts 18 bedroom summer cottage. There's a small visitor center with collectible stamps for those who stamp at national parks and national historic sites. There's a small gift shop and a restaurant on site as well. Their gardens and landscaping are very well kept and we're beautiful to look at as well.
A fantastic visit. Bathrooms are located at the visitor center with modern amenities. Plenty of parking. Staff is extremely helpful and does a great job providing information. Tours are great and informative with tours leaving every 15 minutes. We were there during the shoulder season, so it was not too crowded. There are three properties to visit, 4 if you include Prince Cottage which is their restaurant a definite must try. There are also walking and bike / carriage paths to visit and take in the island scenery. Be advised that the island is on Atlantic time. Our phones did not switch over from Eastern until we were further north on the Island so pay close attention if you are attending events at a specific time. There are clocks in the visitor center if you need to acclimate. The gift shop has a great selection of books on the Roosevelt family as well.
We came for the day on a Friday. Going through Customs at Lubec was painless and the park is anshort way across the border with ample parking. The information center is very well maintained and staffed. I got a map of the grounds and one of Campobello Island and used the very clean restroom. No pets except service animals are allowed in any of the buildings so we took turns minding our maltipoo and taking the 30 minute tour of the Roosevelt cottage. Tours are every 15 minutes so it was easy to get in 2 consecutive tours. It was very interesting and the guide was well informed and very likeable. I wandered the grounds and went down to the boat dock while waiting my turn for the tour. There are several other buildings and cottages as well. We had lunch at the Prince Cafe just down the lawn from the Roosevelt Cottage, very good food and ample servings. We sat outside on the veranda with our dog and ate with a lovely view. Service was very good and prices reasonable.
Lots of history here as the 40 room house is full of family pictures, memorabilia and original furniture. I loved the large kitchen and “president” stove. Be sure to have Tea with Eleanore in another property that was donated to Campobello. A history of the former 1st lady is told during tea time. All free.
Such a beautiful spot filled with so much history! It was torrential rain when I was there, so I didn't get a chance to fully explore all the trails in the park. I think a second trip may be needed! My tour guide was wonderful and brought alive the spirit of the Roosevelts. The Visitor's Center is full of information as well as fun souvenirs.
An historical wonder, being that Canada and the USA share operations of this park. It is free to enter and go into the buildings. You can pay to have tea and cookies at "Tea with Eleanor" or "Cocktails with Franklin", but throwing the buildings is free. Incredible restorations and history.
A special place indeed. An "international park" as they call it, although you must be in Canada for visit. The site of President Roosevelt's summer cottage and area he met his wife. When we went the visitors center had just closed, but the staff were extremely helpful in going back inside unprompted and providing us with maps and assistance. They went the extra mile and made our brief trip well worth it. The cottage itself seems marvelous. There are views looking out to Eastport, Maine which seems so close you could cast a stone to it's shores. The trails make for lovely strolls. Worth a visit.
