We had a fantastic time at the Belize Zoo! We took part in the special experiences with the tapir and the scarlet macaw, and they were truly unforgettable. Even though the jaguars were deep in sleep, it didn’t take away from how amazing the visit was. Our zookeeper was outstanding—friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. It was such a fun and educational morning learning about Belize’s incredible wildlife. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the country!
This small zoo is a beautiful delight!! So many local creatures were easily visible!! I wish we could have heard the howler monkeys, but they were not vocal. The employees were extremely kind, too! You won't regret making this stop!! ❤️
Incredible sanctuary that truly cares about the well-being of the animals and education. All the residents are native to Belize who came here for another chance. Many species of native birds, tapirs (they are huge!), native cats, and some lizards and agouti to round out the visit. Small cafe and gift shop on site.
Rainy season has its perks - we were two of the few people at the zoo and TEC. Our room was adequate, basic, and we were glad for the AC at night. Our dinner and breakfast were very good, and they catered to my daughter's dietary needs. The pristene pool was delightful for both afternoon and morning swims - and cool-downs. The zoo was very interesting, and we appreciate what they are doing for education, care, and rehab for Belizean animals. A lot of important work goes on behind the scenes. While we enjoyed our zoo visit during the afternoon, we LOVED the nocturnal tour to see, hear, and learn more about the night animals that weren't active during the day.
Super fun experience, especially because we did a guided tour and leopard experience! Would definitely do again. The guide was super knowledgeable and a nice and chill guy. It's great to know that this zoo is one that rehabilitates the animals and only keeps the ones that were injured to the point where they probably would not survive in the wild.
This is an incredible zoo. The animals are well taken care of and appear to be very happy. Every single animal has a name! We went with a tour guide but that is not necessary. There are wonderful signs in front of every habitat that explain who the animal is and how they got there. All of the animals are injured or cannot be reintroduced to the wild for other reasons, nothing is captured. They are very environmentally conscious. Rose was my favorite animal!
A truly wonderful zoo that does amazing work for local animals. The zoo helps rehabilitate and rescue many different animals and takes great care of them. We did the jaguar and macaw experience and absolutely loved getting to interact with the animals so close. You can even stay right next to the zoo at their tropical education center which is a convenient stop near the airport for your first or last day in Belize.
This a wonderful zoo that takes in orphaned, injured or elderly birds and animals. Great for walking and learning about many different species. We were lucky enough to have one of the jaguars parade back and forth along the fence in front of us.
