I'm amused and proud to be visit here today 11 July 2025 This is based tp the Historical Place Chinese it was year 18.. Feel lucky can visited this Historical place in Arrowtown. Recommended to be your vacation list in New Zealand.
As a tourist, didn't find this place as attractive. A bunchnof old settlers hute scattered around the area. The trees around were colourful though - the hills has trees of myriad hues. So may be visit for the surrounding landscape. There areqny walking trails around the Arrowtown area. For history enthusiasts this place may be of interest, others may be not worth it ..
An incredible glimpse into the history of Arrowtown and Chinese miners in New Zealand. Lots of information, and great restoration of the site. Paired with a visit to the museum nearby, it was well worth a visit!
Some interesting historical information. Flat area to walk around. Not a great deal to see. I did however see my first ever bumblebee. Much bigger than a 'normal' bee
Historical place about the gold mine and the immigrants who worked here. Now it's a peaceful place with great walking trails. Lovely time spent here walking around and reading the descriptions on the history boards.
Great site to have a glimpse of brief history of Chinese settlement with real dwellings from local material. Ample parking and information provided at the site.
This is a real eye opener into how the Chinese who came to pan for gold kept their lives away from the main area of the town. Worth a walk around to see the replica buildings and learn about their story.
A very unique experience, haven’t seen something like that before

Best (little) museum I’ve been to. Far better than some bigger museums. It was very revealing on how medical was conducted back in history and how they churned butter etc. there was so many elements to the museum which was eye opening. I would recommend viewing the museum when in town it’s about $14 for adult or $10 as a student. It is 2 stories with wheelchair access to the bottom - user friendly!
What an experience! This museum seems small from the outside, but goes on and on within! Such a rich collection of information and history. We could have spent twice as long here, soaking it all up. There was a lot to read, and my children loved the displays that demonstrated early life in Arrowtown. They were absolutely delighted with the old toilet 😆 Highly recommend stopping in and taking your time. What an incredible collection!
We arrived fairly early and it was almost empty. The staff were helpful and let us leave our pram behind their counter. It’s a beautiful museum with quite interesting areas to explore. If you’re ever in Arrowtown definitely check it out for yourself.
This museum is well worth the visit. I popped in as it was a rainy day and was looking for a little reprieve from the weather. This is by far one of my favourite historical museums. The exhibits were well set up and purposeful, not simply displaying artefacts or cramming things in. The information was interesting and there were fun activities to get the kids involved. Every corner I turned, I was amazed by the thought and consideration taken in the exhibits. Well worth the visit.
The smallest mesuem I ever see but it was so amazing. The exhibition so amazing. There are lots of activities (kinds of games) to do in the museum. I really enjoy the story of chinese sattlement, gold mining, brewing. That's amazing. Really like how they tell story of arrowtown.
Nice museum in the heart of Arrowtown. Genuinely interesting to learn about the history of the area. The gold panning experience was a bit of fun.
Museum was the highlight of our visit to Arrowtown. The exhibits were very well done and detailed.
I just love this beautiful old museum and post office with such an original historical feel about it. Inside is a treasure trove of cool stuff including my very very favourite rude hilarious Blue Q socks! It's still a working post office which is interesting. The best part is the wonderful warmth and knowledge of ladies behind the counter. Well worth a trip!

such a beautiful scene in this autumn color. Small lake but gorgeous view.
Beautiful walkway, best accessed off the road to Arrowtown rather than where the maps leads you!
Worth the visit. It’s a haven for introverts.
Nice walking track around Lake Hayes near Arrowtown offering stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. We saw plenty of birds on our walk around the lake including geese, ducks, fantails and crested grebes. The autumn leaves were amazing colours and framed the lake beautifully. Took us about two hours to walk around the entire lake.
Great atmosphere and nice walking around the lake
(Translated by Google) The pearl left in the world...! If you go to Queenstown, please save a sunny day and take bus No. 2 to go there for a walk... about 10 kilometers, less incline... but you will definitely not regret the hard work... because the scenery is beautiful. .Of course you have to add some luck (Original) 遺留世間的明珠..!如果你去皇后鎮, 請留一天晴天搭2号巴士前往走一圈..大約10公里, 少斜..但你絕對不會辛苦同後悔..因為風景很美..當然要加點運氣

Lucy was absolutely amazing. We loved the whole day. She let us go at our own pace, stopped to show us interesting flora, and was always on the lookout for native birds to show us. Cannot recommend enough.
My wife and I had a full day Milford Sound tour with Charles. We could not have scripted a more perfect day of travel. Of course, the trip to Milford Sound was fantastic. The journey itself was great—we stopped at a ton of viewing points, one more beautiful than the next. And I really don’t have words to describe how impossibly beautiful Milford Sound itself is. But it was Charles who truly tied this day together and made it so memorable. Charles is everything you’d want in a travel guide—knowledgeable, interesting, and an amazing conversationalist. He also is just the consummate professional: the day was perfectly timed so that we were constantly doing things without ever feeling rushed. My wife and I have had an amazing time in Queenstown. Seriously, if we had any more time here, what we would do would be an absolute no-brainer: book another tour with Charles. In sum, I can’t recommend Charles more highly. A class act.
We had an excellent day with Charles. He was so knowledgeable and friendly. We really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it!
Charles Fraser was the ultimate professional guide. He was totally knowledgeable & informative on all aspects of New Zealand. He knew so much about the country, its culture, its people, and the history. We spent two days with him & had a most memorable time hiking & exploring Milford Sound & the countryside of New Zealand. He is remarkably upbeat & happy and you feel like you’ve known him forever. He made a most favorable impression on us, and made the day’s exciting. We will never forget his graciousness. We highly suggest hiring him and his company to experience the very best of New Zealand.
Our hike with Lucy was incredible!!! The scenery was absolutely stunning, the length of the hike was perfect, and the views unmatched!!! Thank you so much, for an amazing day, Lucy! You made it so special and personalized for us, and even carried in a yummy lunch for us to enjoy at the Flats Hut! Routeburn treck is just other-worldly”!!!
With the exception of a couple of hours with Dart River Jet Boats (fantastic by the way), spent the entire day with Charles of Private Discovery Tours. Julie & I had a great time with him, knowledgeable about the topography, mountains, Lake Wakapitu, history of Glenorchy, sheep farming, and every other question we could think of. Tailored the day to our interests and abilities. A shared an interest in tennis provided great conversation during a wonderful picnic lunch on a remote shore of the lake.
Lucy was absolutely amazing! Before we even got to the hiking area, we were good friends sharing multiple stories of our lives. On the hike she let us choose the pace, shared her vast knowledge of the plants and birds in the forest we were hiking in. We only had limited time in Queenstown and she was very flexible to alter the day’s schedule to show us sights we had not seen, including Arrow town and the newly developed Aryburn. Lucy was extremely personable, flexible and knowledgeable. Highly recommend employing her services whatever you want to do.
We spent two terrific days with Charles at Private Discovery Tours, touring from Lake Moeraki to Arrowton and then on into Queenstown and then taking an all-day tour to Milford Sound. He was attentive to our comfort and provided fascinating background on everything we saw along the way - sheep and cattle farms; trees, ferns, and forests; and lakes, rivers, and waterfalls - as well as ensuring we stopped at the best lookouts and providing expert advice for touring towns and enjoying our Milford Sound Cruise. We were hesitant about driving in New Zealand, and Private Discovery Tours provided the perfect way to safely and comfortably see top sites while learning about the culture, history, economy, and natural wonders of the country.

I couldn't stop taking pictures! We were expecting an easy walk (which is possible along the road) and were pleasantly surprised at the intermediate level of difficulty by walking through the woods and along the cliffs. Absolutely stunning scenery in an easy out-and-back. Beware that the river makes the road track inaccessible so after we crossed the bridge and discovered we would have to wade through knee-deep water, we decided to go back the way we came. Highly recommend!
Big Hill trail: From the Arrowtown car park this is a 5-6 hour walk up to the top of Big Hill summit. It follows the Saw Pit Gully trail at first - cross the bridge on the lower car park in Arrowtown. The first climb up to Eichardts flat (45 mins) is the steepest climb, so don’t get discouraged if you found yourself out of breath. From here you deviate left and uphill, although the track is fairly flat. There’s a nice beech forest section, then a climb again to the Big Hill saddle. The peak is now close but a bit of uphill again then you are at the top with impressive 360 degree views of Queenstown, Cardrona & the Richardson Mountains. A walk across the summit gives a view down onto Macetown. I walked back the way I came but you can descend from Big Hill summit east and down to the Arrow river (Hayes creek walkway) to complete a loop - adds around 30 minutes to the total.
We chose this walk specifically because it had a minimal gradient, making it easier to navigate in the rainy conditions. Despite the weather, the experience was quite captivating, with the rain adding a refreshing atmosphere. The rivers along the trail were flowing strongly, creating a mesmerizing sight as they surged with power and energy. The sound of the rushing water combined with the rain made for a peaceful yet invigorating experience. Overall, it was the perfect walk for such weather, allowing us to enjoy nature without the challenge of steep climbs.
Great and beautiful hike. Saw on the doc sight that counter clockwise was recommended and I agree because coming down was very steep and dusty/slippy so going up that way in no shade would probably suck haha. But hike wasn't too hard at all. A few spots where your feet might get wet but easily avoided.
Excellent hiking trails- following rivers and up to the top of the surrounding hills. There is a variety of routes for different experience levels. The bush creek trail is lovely and fairly easy and the trail on the arrow river is also lovely. I highly recommend taking some time to explore this area
It used to be a Chinese settlement but I don't see a lot of Chinese here already. Went for a trail. Not really a big fan of it. Not worth the detour if you have other places wanted to go
Pastoral scenery with imposing hills and rolling bushes surrounding any track you choose to embark on — a hidden gem close to Queenstown that’s an absolute must-do!
Awesome track with lots of paths. Waterproof shoes are a bonus with lots of streams that can be crossed. Very picturesque in Autumn. Worth a stop to have a bit of nature time.
