We visited Milford Sound on a sunny day, which meant we missed seeing the full power of the waterfalls, but it was still a beautiful and unforgettable experience. There are always many tourists here, so it can get busy, but that shows how popular and special this place is. We joined the RealNZ coach from Queenstown, which was comfortable and well organized. If you plan to drive yourself, it’s good to know that the parking lot is not right next to the cruise terminal, and you’ll need to walk a bit.
Was a wonderful experience, staff were helpful and friendly and was an easy process to get on the Milford haven boat through RealNZ.Was too expensive for parking, was outrageous at $30 ($10 an Hour) when you pay all that money to go on the tour and then you’re slammed with parking as well. The cruise was wonderful its self, staff are all so knowledgeable of the area and explained everything as you went. Seen wildlife, seals and penguins and so many wonderful waterfalls. Had a great time and a lot of photos and memories made. Oh and watch out for the cheeky keas!!!!
The premium cruise was such a amazing experience. The whole crew was so nice and thoughtful. We had a nice sunny day with perfect visibility from the top. The menu they provided was also fantastic!
Would definitely recommend Real NZ For The Milford sound tour. They keep you well informed and and takes the edge of having to drive (however if you do have more time around that area definitely worth a drive!) plenty of stops along the way. Commentary was mainly on the way to Milford sound and was very informative. The cruise was lovely around - it rain intermittently but without the rain we wouldn't have the wonderful waterfalls there! Fantastic experience! As it's a long day do pack some snacks!
Was really enjoyable. Very knowledgeable, friendly and we managed to see dolphins, seals and penguins. Really affordable. Even though it was raining pretty hard, the sounds put it on. Nice food onboard as well
This is one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen. Our knowledgeable guide kept us informed and ensured we had plenty of stops during the five-hour drive to Milford and four returns to fill our bellies. The comfortable bus and large windows are made for great photo opportunities. Just a heads up, double-check your pick-up point on your documents. I booked through Flight Centre and the information was confusing. This caused me to arrive a bit late as I thought I was going to be picked up from my accommodation. Also, make sure to pray for rain at Milford Sound; it truly enhances the experience. I left my heart there.
Highly recommend visiting Milford Sound with Real NZ. Travelling by coach makes the journey so easy. Great commentary by the driver and making stops along the way just adds to the anticipation of seeing the beauty of the fiord. So many seating options on the boat with a great selection of food and beverages. 5 ⭐️ experience!!!!
Absolutely incredible. The rain made the whole experience even more magical! Waterfalls everywhere, mist rolling over the cliffs, and the whole place felt alive. Getting soaked under the falls was part of the fun. The crew was great, the boat was comfortable, and the views were unreal. 10/10... a must-do in New Zealand. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Did the Milford Sound cruise and the service was good. Had coffee and tea in cruise and the Skipper's commentary was good. Did see dolphins and seals with nice views of the place. Price was also good if you buy via Bookme.
Definitely helpful at the counter when we arrived late due to a road closure, but wasn’t pleased with how there’s a lack of communication when the road closure happened, resulting in us contemplating whether to take the 2 hours drive from Te Anau into Milford Sound since we would be late. Context: Cruise booked for 1030am, confirmed by operator a day earlier, said we should reach by 1010am. Road closure till 10am, updates only at 730am to determine if it will be extended or confirmed to be open. No emails from them, and no replies when we reached out at 730am over various channels - asking whether if we would be refunded or is this automatically cancelled. That said, the counter staff immediately gave us seats for the next available timing which is 20 minutes from when we reached the counter, which is helpful. 🛳️ the cruise itself was modern, didn’t felt like there’s ample seats for our departure as we didn’t get to sit for the entire 2 hours (since it was also raining and the upper deck seats are wet). A decent experience in general, could have gone awry if we didn’t still try to go for it despite turning up late.
I could not recommend Southern Discoveries more highly. They by no means have a monopoly at Milford Sound, and there are several operators to choose from, but this experience was exceptional. I had planned to take the 10:30 departure but was offered an inexpensive upgrade to the Discover More tour at 09:30 instead. That meant a 3:30am start from Queenstown – earlier still if you are not a confident driver – and it is a hair-raising drive in the dark. The upside is that the road is empty, and because the journey out is in darkness, the drive back feels like a brand-new scenic adventure. The upgrade was absolutely worth it. The boat was beautiful, with a comfortable cabin and a spacious open roof deck. There were only 10 of us on board, though it must hold ten times that number, so it felt like a private tour. The three crew members were outstanding – an excellent skipper who doubled as guide, and two warm, attentive staff who made the whole trip feel special. Unlimited free tea and coffee were a nice touch, and we were lucky enough to have perfect weather. A final tip: if you can manage a flat 15–20 minute walk, park for free near the lodge on your way into the Milford Sound village. The terminal car park is still a ten-minute walk from the terminal itself and costs an extortionate $10 per hour.
We booked a tour less than one hour before departure, and we had a great experience with free tea and coffee. The staff was very nice, attentive and knowledgeable. It was pouring rain and I absolutely recommend this exact weather as that's the only time when the many temporary rainfalls come out.
Hi, me and my friends booked Southern Discoveries on the 15th Sep 2025 and our bus driver Shale (sorry if spelt wrong) was the best driver I've ever had. He was so friendly, funny and knowledgeable. He made the ride to Milford Sounds enjoyable. I highly recommend him if anyone ever books a trip. Anyways the whole experience was wonderful. Thanks Southern Discoveries.
We only had about 10 people in our trip so had heaps of room to move. It is a shame the cloud was so low we couldn't see everything, but the waterfalls were stunning. We did see a seal and penguins. The crew were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Would recommend southern discoveries.
This was a great trip with a hilarious tour guide. I highly recommend! The bus ride is quite long but there isn’t an alternative without getting a charter flight. We went on a slightly bad weather day but it was still worth it— the waterfalls become spectacular when there has been rain! The boat tour is necessary to see everything too! I would skip the meal option on the boat and just bring food from home— the boat buffet was quite gross.
We had an unforgettable cruise experience with Southern Discoveries through the breathtaking Milford Sound. From start to finish, everything was seamless and professionally run. We were incredibly lucky to have good weather on the day, which made the already stunning scenery even more spectacular. The views were picture perfect and really quite moving, towering peaks, rainforest clinging to cliffs, and stunning waterfalls plunging into the deep fjord. The sheer scale and beauty of Milford Sound are hard to put into words. It’s truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. The crew were friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone had a great experience. Being able to get up close to some of the waterfalls was a definite highlight! If you’re considering visiting Milford Sound, we couldn’t recommend Southern Discoveries more highly. It’s a magical place, and this cruise made it even more special. #SDShareandWin #SouthernDiscoveries

We went on the 1.45pm premium cruise and it was worth it! The location was already amazing, then you add a very comfortable catamaran you'll get a five star rating!! We also got buffet food, there were hit and miss so can't really say much about it. Highly recommend getting a close up photo under the waterfall. You will get soaked but it's such an awesome experience! Loved it!
Spacious and awesome boat. Commentary was good and the coffee machine was complimentary. Staff (particularly Adam) were friendly, and the skipper stopped at marine life he spotted along the way. We seen seals, penguins, dolphins and the falls. Downsides: not sure why they didn't go out to the lighthouse when the other boat infront of us did and also another big boat our friends were on also did... plus weather conditions that day seemed fine. The speakers were not clear out the front of the boat, and we were all having trouble understanding the information that we did want to know (but didn't want to have to stand inside to understand). Other than these 2 things, it was awesome.
Best ever experience. Stunning views of Milford sound. Reasonable prices. Cruise crew was very helpful and makes so much fun. They take you to amazing waterfalls. Love being there.
Only paid 39NZD per person for a 2 hour cruise and was worth the price. The ferry was small but surprisingly had comfortable and spacious seating, and at the same time had an open top deck for best views. The cruise also came with bottomless tea and coffee as well, perfect for the cold outside. Overall a great experience. Consider taking a JUCY cruise if on a tight budget, it won't dissapoint.
A Milford experience like no other. A great and informative 90km coach ride from Lake Te anau. Ad another 1 and a half hours coach time if leaving from Queenstown. Ride their amazing new cat through the Sound out to the ocean and back. See the amazing vistas and massive waterfalls and go out on the decks and enjoy! Free coffee and tea. Preorder your meal Gluten free if needed) when booking or have buffet on board. This Juicy cruise will get you out there cruising in Milford and back first to your coach up the front of the 60 to 100 coaches travelling in convoy presently while the badly flood damaged roads are being repaired.
Cheapest rates around the area ($45/adult). Great views. You even get close to a waterfall and if you're lucky, you'll get to see some sealions. Free hot tea provided. It can get really windy on the upper deck so be aware of any loose items like caps/hats, glasses, scarves, etc.
Great experience all round. The driver of the bus was humourous, and the views out the window were stunning. Appreciate the scenic stops along the way as well to stretch your legs. The cruise was great, lots of amazing photos and memories.
We booked through Juicy Cruises and were picked up by coach at Te Anau. Our driver Karl, a very knowledgable and proud kiwi kept us informed along the journey and made the journey memorable. A bit misty on the sounds but awesome experience that we`d highly recommend.

We had an amazing 2 hour tour with the Skipper and Crew! We saw seals, penguins, and various waterfalls. The crew came around offering to take our pictures with us in them. They served us refreshments and were informative about the details of the inlet. I’d easily recommend them to everyone!
Went on the Cruise Milford boat as part of my tour with Altitude Tours and absolutely loved it! Boat was a great size - not too big or small and felt like there was plenty of seating both outdoors and indoors, didn’t feel crowded at all. Crew were super helpful and friendly, appreciated that they were keen to have a chat! Even though it was a bit of a windy and wet day on the water the views were excellent and I had a great time! Favourite part was getting up close to the waterfall spray - amazing experience!!
Great tour with Captain Chris and Sofia (hope you get your extra biscuits) for our tour today. Lots of space on the 11:30 boat could move around freely. Clean toilets. Hot drinks and biscuits. Astonishing how close the captain could get us to the shoreline! Now thats expertise right there. Spotted a dolphin, three seals and a penguin and got us so close to them. Lots of cool information given over the tannoy. I don’t think we sat down for the whole boat trip! Sooo much to see! Would recommend!
Non-regrettable trip despite not being on the to visit list 💯 We were lucky to have good weather to start the journey; spotted family of dolphins, penguins and seal along the way. Started raining halfway thru and that made it an even better experience to understand that power of nature and how it has shaped the fiord and sound in New Zealand. Excellent commentaries shared by Craig and lovely Sophia who helped us w a nice photo to wrap up the excursion.
Such an amazing day out on the Milford Sound cruise. The place itself is unreal! Waterfalls pouring down from everywhere, mountains wrapped in clouds.. The whole experience felt easy and relaxed. The crew were lovely and a big shoutout to Matej who was awesome!:) Super friendly and made everyone feel comfortable. You can tell he really enjoys what he does.. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
Perfect way to cruise Milford Sound with a small family-run ship. Stay on the top deck to get the glacial facial spray experience at Stirling Falls. Captain Chris and Georgie made the journey a memorable one.
Phenomenal experience from top to bottom. I would go back tomorrow if I could. The small boat allowed you to walk around and get the best views. Because of its size, we could get so close and were able to get doused by a waterfall, see a penguin, and spot a seal lion. The sensational weather certainly helped elevate the experience, but everything was top-notch.
Fantastic experience with beautiful views despite being a little overcast. Craig went above and beyond to show us the sights along the way, including seals and penguins and telling us tales of his Great White shark expeditions. Was the highlight of our trip down to the Fiordlands for sure. Would highly recommend!

Really unique experience, definitely would recommend booking in this tour. Milford sound should be the 8th wonder of the world it’s a truly magical place. The cruise and tour leader was amazing. The boat is smaller than other tours but perfect! You can get complimentary hot drinks and they even had oat milk!! Checking in was really easy and Erin was super helpful! Many thanks to you 🫶🏼 Definitely would recommend and I’d do this again in a heartbeat!
We did the Milford Sound cruise with Mitre Peak Cruises, and overall, it was a great experience. The scenery is undeniably stunning – dramatic cliffs, towering peaks, and still, reflective waters. Our guide was fantastic: knowledgeable, passionate, and provided lots of valuable insights about the landscape, wildlife, and history of the area, which really enhanced the journey. We were lucky with calm weather, but due to limited recent rainfall, we only saw two waterfalls. Still beautiful, just not as dramatic as during wetter times. One major plus was the smaller boat size and smaller group, which made the cruise feel more personal and peaceful. It was a much better atmosphere compared to the larger, more crowded tour boats we saw out there. That said, while I truly enjoyed the experience, I didn’t find it quite as jaw-dropping as the hype had led me to believe – perhaps expectations were a little too high. Still, if you’re going to do a cruise at Milford Sound, I’d definitely recommend Mitre Peak Cruises for a more intimate, informative, and relaxed way to see this iconic natural wonder.
Sensational. We travelled by plane with Milford Sound Scenic Flights. The package included our Cruise with Mitre Peak Cruises, and wow, what an epic adventure. We did note we went closer to the waterfalls, and stopped and looked at wildlife more than the other boats. Overall a wonderful experience in one of nature's most beautiful spots. Thank you.
A great way to enjoy an awesome natural feature in New Zealand. Had a wonderful experience. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The boat is well kept and had a good amount of space, so the cruise takes on just the right amount of passengers - it’s not over crowded when on the outside deck taking in the spectacular views and aspects of Milford Sound. The cruise stops along the way to see fur seals, the waterfalls and galciers, then heads out to sea. An awesome view when the boat turns around and heads back into the Sound. A fantastic was to see a truly natural beauty of New Zealand and this cruise certainly enhances the journey.
Our group went for the Milford Sound cruise. It was a lovely weather and the journey was great with accommodating staff and commentary. We got so lucky to see so many Doplhins, seals and penguin. The boat is not packed so everyone had a chance for a nice photo with the falls. They also offered tea and coffee which was handy for the cold weather. No food sold so best to pack your lunch/snacks
Took a two hour cruise at Milford Sound. Perfect size vessel to see the wonders and beauty up close and personal. Loved the glacial facial from a cascading waterfall. Words cannot describe the beauty of this place
Really friendly crew and a very knowledgable skipper. Smaller boat than the other fleets in Milford Sound, which is nice as it makes the experience more personal and enjoyable. We were lucky enough to see Dolphins, Seals and Penguins.
Had an amazing experience with Mitre Peak Cruises! The team handled the recent weather event in Southland so well — they kept us updated when the road closed and quickly rescheduled our 8:50am cruise to 1:30pm. The cruise itself was unforgettable — breathtaking waterfalls, peaceful sounds, and we even saw dolphins, seals, and penguins! After 10 years, I finally got to tick Milford Sound off my bucket list with my parents and partner. Truly a special day! 🏔️🐬🦭🐧

It was a calm winter morning when we went kayaking. My five other friends and I had a blast with our guide Austin, who’s very funny and knowledgeable. He told us Māori stories throughout the journey and taught us how to ride the waves on kayaks, although we probably need more practice on that. Austin also took us to see a sea nearby! The waterfall was very pretty and we also went to the Echo Cave nearby. We got off our kayaks to get a closer look at the waterfall where we took a few group photos. Weather was quite pleasant. It was on the cold side but we were given fleece sweaters and thermal pants before the journey. 10/10 experience 10/10 view 12/10 tour guide 😍
Big thank you to Rosco's kayaking, we had an incredible time out on the water. The sunriser tour was relaxed paddling, and Ollie, our guide, was full of interesting information and local knowledge. Couldn't recommend the tour highly enough, particularly for those looking for a more unique way to experience Milford Sound than the standard cruises.
Incredible day with Roscos! I was picked up from Te Anau by Olly who gave me all sorts of NZ insights during the 2 hour journey and allowed me a number of stops to take photos on the way. The kayaking itself was not strenuous and any beginner could easily partake, we were on the water for around 3 hours and really got to see such a huge range of wildlife, types of terrain, incredible views and a tonne of waterfalls. Being in the kayak you could really get up close and personal with cliff faces and go down little inlets that boats simply wouldn't have access to. Olly was a really great guide, very knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna and a good laugh too, fab guy. It was my favourite activity so far in my NZ travels, would highly recommend.
I have no words. The tour was incredible. They say Milford Sound is the eighth wonder of the world. I can see why. We were fortunate enough to have blue skies and calm water. We saw dolphins, seals and penguins. We also experienced a storm roll in at the last 15 mins of our 4 hour tour. We watched as the mountains and glaciers surrounding us slowly disappear. These memories will be permanently etched into my brain. Shout out to our guide, Ethan. He was super chill, funny and knowledgeable. Best day ever
We had the best time with Rosco’s Kayaks on the Morning Glory tour! Amanda, Ashley and I went out with Austin and Nazomi — they were awesome guides — super knowledgeable, easygoing, and fun to paddle with. We lucked out with glassy calm water to start the day and saw the trifecta of dolphins, penguins, and seals! Paddling under Sterling Falls (the best salt facial!) and making it all the way to the Tasman Sea was absolutely incredible. Such an unforgettable experience — couldn’t have asked for better weather, better company, or better guides. Highly recommend Rosco’s if you’re in Milford Sound!
Rosco’s is hands down the best sea kayaking experience. The weather was perfect, the team awesome and the kayaking second to none. Our guide Jona was professional, insightful and guided us through an awesome route. Even got to see a seal and a couple of bottlenose dolphins too. Thanks Rosco’s!
Absolutely amazing experience and would highly recommend. We had a great tour guide who was very informative and had some interesting stories to tell us about the history of Milford Sound and Te Anau!
Roscos Milford Sound Kayaking was an unforgettable experience. Completely recommend, we did both the cruise and the kayaking in Fiordland. Most people just do the cruise, which is great, but the kayaking gives you such a different, up-close experience. It’s definitely worth doing! We had Oscar and Ollie as our guides, they were informative, friendly, and gave us the perfect balance between learning and enjoying some peaceful time on the water within the Fiordland. Thank you guys! This is a must-do, no matter the weather!

We drove ourselves to Milford sounds and it was an amazing drive. The parking was $10 an hour but I didn’t want to park in the free parking as it was further away. We boarded one of the southern discovery boats. I’m sure any boat would have been great but southern discoveries were awesome. Great captain with knowledge, gave us plenty of time to look at all waterfalls and even took us really close to one and we got a big spray which was actually incredible. It was raining most of our trip but that didn’t bother us and it made it even better! The views were incredible. Totally worth it and a must do!

Absolutely unreal experience with Lance, Simone and Mitch. From start to finish everyone had a smile on their face from ear to ear, as an instructor myself I was blown away not only by the diving but also the service and equipment provided. My girlfriend and friend both did their dry suit speciality with Lance and had a mean time diving. It was awesome to dive with someone so passionate about diving as well! Descend dont just offer diving but also a very personal tour in the fjord and have an extensive amount of knowledge about above and below the water. Once again a massive thank you to the team for the unforgettable experience! Will definitely be back!!!!
Wow, what a memorable experience for my first dry-suit dive — I HIGHLY recommend experiencing Milford Sound through scuba with Descend! It was a gorgeous, rare sunny day and I dove with Cody and Katy, who made it so fun, effortless, and delightful throughout the whole trip. They took care of EVERYTHING from equipment, to snacks and a delicious falafel wrap for lunch, to weighting me, to my gear and ensuring I was outfitted correctly… even helping me assemble when the dry-suit made it difficult to do so! I felt totally safe, carefree, and excited, and was lucky enough to see octopus and enormous crayfish! Our skipper Carl was also super knowledgeable and even recommended hikes nearby and stopped by for us to experience a waterfall up close. It was like a private tour of the fjord! The entire crew kept the energy going, and even afterwards as I had trouble locating my family again, they took me in as their own and helped me until I found them. Also shout-out to Simone who answered my questions via email beforehand as I was quite nervous for my first dive, but I had no reason to be as they took care of it all! I’m so grateful for this experience!!!! Wish I were staying longer so I could dive with them more!
Such a professional outfit! Let me begin: 1. Carl: Skipper of the boat and so familiar with all the dive sites, could provide you with the most detailed brief of the land and underwater features. As he dives as well, his knowledge knows no limits. Great sense of humour too - not a stuffy crew member 2. Gio: what an absolute pocket rocket of energy, fun, professionalism, intelligence and skill. She looks absolutely amazing underwater - her 4000+ dives are clearly apparent when you see her manage a training session and a group of divers trying not to crash into ANCIENT coral! She also made really tasty fresh vegetable & falafel rolls - which is far better than packet soup you normally get on a boat dive. 3. Ted: the gentle giant of the group. Helped me so willingly with my sidemount kit, which was proving difficult with cold fingers! Such a quiet spoken gentleman, who amused us during lunch with his dry sense of humour. 4. The sites: the dive location is stunning! The black coral looks like a winter wonderland of white branches spanning out with its tendrils. When you realise they grow (maximum) 3cm year, you wonder in awe at the age of some of these animals - spanning the full breadth of human history: imagine something that was alive when Pharaoh Ramses was ruling Egypt! The rock wall of Cray’s Crack and the descent down to an abyssal 150m+ is intimidating and exhilarating. Let’s not get started on the lobsters! So friendly and inquisitive - not to mention humongous! 5. Simone: The communication with the head office is prompt and informed. I asked to use sidemount and DiversityNZ were so helpful with this. I asked for 10.5L steel DIN tanks as I find 12L too heavy and unnecessary as my air consumption is tiny - could they have been more accommodating? I think not I asked about another day booking and they cancelled because of the weather: I value a company that puts safety ahead of profit.
What an absolutely amazing experience. I come to Mildford Sound regularly with work, but I have never had the chance to dive under the icy water until recently. What an amazing treat! I had really high expectations (I couldn't help it) and everything blew me away! From the state of the art equipment to the the semi-drysuits & even the included lunch, everything was amazing! Kudos to Lance, Zach & Kam for organising everyone, from people that had never dived before, to open water, advanced and professionals, everyone was catered for and looked after! I can't wait to come and dive again - worth every cent!
Incredible place to dive. My friend and I went diving here for the first time ever, and the crew was pleasant to talk with, great with instruction, and lively as a whole. We felt comfortable and at ease as we were in good hands, and if you truly want to experience Milford Sound, I strongly suggest booking with Descend even if you’ve never gone diving before. It’s easy to tell the crew members love what they do, and Simone is very obviously a great boss to work for.
I was a little anxious about this dive. I am a PADI AOW diver with about 400 dives logged. Milford Sound is cold water diving even in summer. Cold water diving is much more stressful on the body - heart, lungs, brain - than warm tropical water diving. The crew at Descend understand this and go to lengths to ensure you are safe, comfortable and have the best experience you can imagine. They are professional and so experienced. I knew I was in safe hands once Carrie told me she had dived 1500 dives and had been diving everyday for over 5 years. Now thats impressive. They have excellent quality gear, they include torches, semi dry suits, brand new state of the art BCD's and integrated weight belts. Dont do the boat cruise in Milford Sound go scuba diving, it will be the highlight of your trip, I promise!!!
Absolutely amazing experience. The team/ crew take excellent care of everyone on board and in the water. They give you a one if a kind tour of Milford Sound throughout the whole day including hiking access to an area only they can take tourists (bridal veil falls). Plenty of nourishment is provided between dives and it was very yummy. I was incredibly impressed by the equipment used and they spend time beforehand making sure you are comfortable with it. Very unique diving experience and more then worth the cost! I would do this again in a heartbeat.
Milford Sound is such a beautiful place, both above water and below as it turns out! The whole team at Descend were awesome, special thanks to Lance who made me feel very safe and comfortable for my first ever scuba dive on the Basic Diver course. Great tuition and direction throughout and some spectacular wildlife to see; from black coral and inquisitive rock lobsters to kingfish and a lucky encounter with an eagle ray too. Incredible experience that was the highlight of our trip to New Zealand. The whole day out on the boat, socialising with the skipper and crew, was great fun - and Britt's sandwich was delicious to boot! Thank you guys!

Highly recommend! We did the lunch scenic tour with Fiordland Discovery and it was phenomenal. Francis and his crew were knowledgeable, helpful and kind. It has a maximum of 20 guests and we only ended up having 4 guests for our cruise! Not to mention it was the best meal my husband and had on our entire 2 week New Zealand holiday. Would absolutely recommend this cruise to anyone.
My husband and I travelled on the Fiordland Jewel, 2 - 8 June 2025 with the outstanding crew of Jack, Joe, Lucas and Abby. We had a wonderful experience. The scenery was spectacular, with many close-up views of the wildlife. We were encouraged to take kayaks or ride the tender boat, allowing us the opportunity to see wildlife and natural features of the landscape. Chef, Lucas, and the team absolutely excelled themselves, providing a wonderful array of food for our entire journey. We were given the opportunity for daily excursions ashore to view and learn about the Sounds, and its history. The Fiordland Jewel is a lovely boat to travel on, with very comfortable cabins and a relaxing lounge/dining area. We have many wonderful photos and memories of our trip - a must do experience. We highly recommend this experience. It is worthy of 10 stars.
We booked a last-minute overnight cruise with Fiordland Discovery and couldn’t have been happier. Luca was extremely accommodating, helpful, and flexible — she even answered emails late at night, showed us where to park our camper van, and handled a last-minute pickup change with no fuss. Lance picked us up and shared fascinating insights about daily life and history in New Zealand, including a individual sightseeing stops along the way. On board, Jack and his team matched that same level of dedication a — a true family business with genuine passion. The personal attention and knowledge they offer are exceptional. An insightful movie about the fiords, including underwater imagery, was followed by Jack’s explanations on geologyand wildlife during the cruise — he clearly has a great eye for spotting animals, too. In the afternoon we went kayaking and some for a short swim in the fiord, then enjoyed the jacuzzi on deck in the evening to warm up. Breakfast on the boat was as good as any on land — perfect eggs Benedict. Definitely the right choice of operator!
During our Milford Sound trip, we had an amazing time with Fiordland Discovery. Francis and the crew were incredible! They told us all about the history and geography of the area, and their stories made everything feel so real. They were exceptionally personable, although there were 12 of us, it felt like a private trip and the crew joined us in our adventures, further elevating our trip. And the food! Chef Chris is a master. Every dish was delicious and he used fresh ingredients that made it feel like it was a five star restaurant on the sound! The views from Fiordland Discovery were absolutely stunning. We could see towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls and lush greenery everywhere we looked. It was like being in a real-life postcard! This is a MUST-DO in New Zealand! This experience alone would be worth a trip from the states!
Wonderful overnight cruise worth the price. It was cloudy and heavy rain overnight but that made the scenery even more interesting and it is just part of a trip to Milford Sound. Loved that there were only 21 guest on board and that we left the crowds at the Visitor Terminal behind! Delicious freshly cooked dinner and breakfast as well. You can’t blame the cruise line for the drunk and noisy American guests yelling all afternoon and evening….they are unfortunately impossible to avoid.
I cannot say enough of just amazing this overnight cruise was, everything from the crew and captain Jack to the boat and experience was far exceeded our expectations. 5 stars is not enough
Our Fiordland Discovery cruise from February 5-6 was the highlight of our trip to the South Island from the United States. Some of our best photos in New Zealand were taken during this cruise. The crew was exceptionally professional and delivered outstanding service, matching the high expectations for an excursion of this caliber. The chef prepared delicious meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. We enjoyed the company of our small group of fellow travelers, around 20 or so, who were all very friendly, and we had a wonderful time together. Most were from Australia and some from England. If you're looking for a loud party boat, this isn't the cruise for you. However, if you want to experience the stunning beauty of Milford Sound in a relaxed and intimate setting, away from the tourist crowds, then Fiordland Discovery is the perfect choice. The video and commentary provided by the captain after one of the meals was appreciated. What they have done with underwater cameras exploring the fiord beds is amazing. Lastly, if you're given the opportunity to swim in the 16-degree water of the sound, do it! Jump off the heli deck too! It was a unique and exhilarating experience. Highly recommended!
This was THE highlight of our trip. Our family did the overnight cruise on Milford Sound and if you have the time to do it, do it! The fjord was less crowded than it is for the day tours, the stargazing was incredible, and we woke up to clear skies and could see reflections of the fjord in the water. Our skipper Francis and the crew were knowledgeable and pointed out wildlife, from seals to dolphins to even penguins. Fer the chef cooked perfect, filling meals. The cherry on top was the transport to and from Queenstown. The company does van transport to and from Milford Sound. Our driver was Russell and he told us a lot of fun tidbits on the way and just had so much knowledge about everything New Zealand. He got us there earlier than expected and even made a stop at the National Park Visitor Center for us. Five stars all around!

Good stop on the way to Milford Sound, very majestic views and seems to be beautiful in any weather conditions! There’s a lot of spaces to stop along the highway, making it rather safe to stop and go again.
It is a pretty area. You probably don’t need to stop. It is nice to enjoy as you drive through. If you’re not in a hurry then you can stop, but beware you may get stuck behind some slow campers. There are a bunch of small pull offs along the stretch, and it is nice if you get the lighting right.
Views of the valley with small parking spaces. The light & the wind makes the place more dramatic.
Fascinating views along the Milford Highway. A good place for taking pfps or just a little walk. Highly recommend you to step out of your car and feel it yourself.
Great pull off between Te Anu and Milford Sound. The views and the expanse of this is area is memorable.
We stopped there while going in milford sound and its a nice place to see but unfortunately it was raining so couldn’t enjoy much and full of fog so Didn't get that view i was expected.
Nice IG spot... 1. Lord of the Rings battlefield. 2. Mission Impossible - Motorcycle Jump.
Visited during early winter, mid morning. Scenic and very calm place, with many cars stop and go quickly after photo taking. Nice 5-10 mins stop.

Absolutely Amazing experience with Milford Helicopters! We did the Glacier flight to the Tutoku Glacier, epic isn’t enough! The flight was amazing and the ground staff were excellent.
Thank you for an amazing experience today, we were very fortunate to have amazing weather on the day which made for a perfect flight. Milford Helicopters accommodated us at short notice to fly to the glacier and back, of the very few helicopter flights I’ve been on this was by far the best, if you’re visiting Milford Sound I’d highly recommend booking a flight! The pilot is very smooth and capable, thanks again guys!
Amazing flight back to Te Anau from Milford sound. Stopped at a beautiful lake. The pilot was really informative and we felt really safe and comfortable with him. Amazing Milford Helicopters and Luxe Travel managed to make it work for us. Thank you so much.
Incredible experience because we'd never been in a helicopter, and the scenery and experience was insane. Landing on top of the glacier was such a cool experience and one we will never forget! The pilots flying was so smooth, shame we didn't get his name or any other info. He took some photos of us on the glacier which was nice. Downsides; no safety briefing, not introduced to pilot and it's very short for the cost (25 mins for £250). We turned up and within 6 mins were ushered into a helicopter, I guess they wanted as many flights that day as possible because the conditions were sunny and calm, but the staff on the ground are definitely part of a really expensive experience and could have been way more understanding of how this is a once in a lifetime thing for many of us, and atleast given some safety instructions? All we could hear on the headphones throughout the flight were other pilots and ground staff talking to eachother so we're too scared to talk to eachother as we might interrupt important info being shared between flight and ground. Just some info on that before flying would have been appreciated.
We can’t thank Milford Helicopters enough! My wife and I were stuck on a Milford Sound overnight cruise that turned into five nights due to extreme weather, fallen trees, and landslides cutting off the roads. It would have been even longer if it wasn’t for Gav and his helicopter. Despite the strong winds and heavy rain, Gav flew in and got us safely out of Milford Sound and back to Te Anau, where we were met by the awesome RealNZ team and taken back to Queenstown. His skill, calmness, and experience were incredible — especially considering after that he wasn’t able to fly anyone else out that day due to the weather conditions. We’re extremely grateful for Gav and Milford Helicopters for getting us home safely. Highly recommended!
We had a great experience, the weather was perfect. The only draw back was that we showed up randomly and thought it would be easy to book a flight. We got lucky as we showed up hrs earlier to make sure we got a flight. Recommend looking into it early, Milford sound is nothing more than a ferry terminal and a small cafe. So don't make the same mistake we did thinking it was a small village. But what an amazing experience. And I hope I remember his name right... Sam was a great pilot.
Absolutely disappointed, made us wait for hours with blatant lies about why, every time a different reason, when asked for a discount the office girl laughed in our faces. Also they leave helicopters running unsupervised ....very dangerous ! Would not recommend!
Can't speak highly enough of these guys. Mike, Riley and Chris went above and beyond in testing weather conditions for us. We left thinking the world of these blokes, and will absolutely be back for all future Fiordland bookings. The best experience we've had of any heli company ever.

A bit of a hike to get to the view of waterfall. After returning from the hike we took a detour to the boat ramp. Such a beautiful place. Hidden gem
The road to get here is unpaved but very very smooth. Literally any car can pass and I think I went faster on this road than the normal Milford road due to no traffic. Google maps will significantly overestimate how long it will take you. Anyway, the walk to the waterfall is up hill but short. Not sure the payoff is worth it. You can only see the waterfall from across the valley. But if you need to burn some time I like we did, then go ahead and stop.
Humboldt Falls resides in Fiordland National Park near Te Anau in the Fiordland region of South Island, New Zealand. It is one of the highest waterfalls in New Zealand. This giant 275 metre waterfall is impressive and the track is 1.2 km in distance and takes around 30 mins return walk. They are the third tallest falls in New Zealand, falling 275 metres in three drops. The largest of the three drops is 134 metres high.
We had an amazing experience hiking to the waterfall. The drive on the unpaved road added to the adventure, and once we arrived, the sight of the waterfall was absolutely breathtaking. Parking and toilets available. Nature at its finest.
Highly recommend walking up the river itself to get a great view of the whole falls!
Beautiful waterfalls that are easy to access. It's only a short and relatively easy walk from the car park up a well maintained track. The viewing area is quite a long way away from the falls, but is elevated to about halfway up the waterfalls, allowing you to look down on the pool the fall into. The gravel road to it is well kept and completely safe for any vehicle to access.
15 minutes walk to a platform, which isn't so close to the waterfall. One big waterfall and a smaller one to the right. The drive to it is on a unpaved road. It needs maybe 40 minutes to the car park. When you walk from the car park 3 minutes down the road, there is a nice river and the start from a great walk.
We went when it had been raining all day and was flowing like a fire hose 3 arms of falls unreal view easy hike 20 minutes return

Beautifully scenic area.. They say the water is so pure here that you can refill your water bottles directly from the stream
A wonderful stopping point to take in the magnificent mountains towering over you 360 degrees all around. Lot of parking and refreshing mountain air!
Scenic spots, the tour operators will pullover here and you can soak in the views and take pictures. Snow capped mountains, a running stream and nice grasslands - worth all your time. So do stop and enjoy the views - hopefully you will get space to park
Very nice spot, as almost every one on the way to Milford Sound, quite a good chance to spot kea here, they truly are cheeky, no need to look for them, they will probably come on their own
A great place to stop because the view…!!! Suggest to drive on your own instead of taking the tour buses and also to stop when you’re driving back from Milford Sound. Less crowded and there’s no need to jostle with so many tourists.
This is another stop where bus operators halt. Here the roads are bit wider and hence there are few spaces available for parking. There are high chances of spotting mountain keas here. Snow capped mountains & a running stream make it beautiful. They say the water flowing here is so pure that one can refill the drinking bottles.
Nice Stop to capture the snow capped mountains, creek with clear water flow and KEA bird sightings Proper parking for cars and Coaches..
Nice place to just relax!
