This tour was perfect for my day trip to KI to be able to swim with seals, dolphins and enjoy the beautiful coastal reef of KI. You can easily walk to the visitor information centre where the tour starts from the ferry terminal, like I did. The crew (I believe her name was Tanisha or started with a T!) and skipper are such lovely humans - thank you for being so warm, passionate, funny, energetic, helpful and knowledgeable. The tour is run at a really good pace, and they fit a lot in for only a few hours which was a perfect balance. They were very professional with organising our wetsuits and snorkelling gear, with both our and the animals’ safety, and giving us interesting information about the island. The excitement they had for us when we swam with both dolphins and seals was so sweet! I felt very thankful that I was able to snorkel with both of these amazing creatures again thanks to them. The coastal reef snorkelling is also really cool, we saw stingrays and lots of fish, and the scenic cruise around the island is amazing. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon guys. I highly recommend adding this tour to your Kangaroo Island trip!
Memorable experience, the beauty of nature is just breathtaking. We were super lucky to see so many dolphins and seals and various birds during the safari tour. Eliger and Alex are knowledgeable, bright and incredibly helpful. We are already planning to come back again in Summer!
Great time today with Bonnie and Elijiah! We had a storm coming and they let us know no snorkeling due to safety concerns, providing us with several options including a refund. We chose to do the 75 min safari and it was great! We found dolphins within minutes of departure and got some great photos. On to visit the fur seals and then more dolphins. They were both friendly, fun and professional. Highly recommend!
Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari was absolutely incredible! From the moment we stepped onto the boat, the crew made us feel welcome, safe, and excited for what was ahead. Their knowledge of the local marine life and coastline added so much depth to the experience, and their passion for the ocean was obvious. We were blessed with calm waters and beautiful views, and before long we were surrounded by wildlife. Seeing dolphins play right alongside the boat was a true highlight, and the seals basking on the rocks were adorable. The whole tour felt relaxed yet full of adventure, and the crew went above and beyond to make sure everyone had the best possible time. If you’re visiting Kangaroo Island, this is a must-do. It’s the perfect mix of scenery, wildlife, and genuine hospitality—an experience you’ll remember long after you’ve left the island. Highly recommended! 🐬🌊🦭
Thanks Elijah, Elliott and Henny for a great tour, you made sure we had everything we needed and looked after us both in and out of the water. It was a relaxed, fun, entertaining and informative trip. Had such a great time and felt super lucky not just to have had the opportunity to swim with dolphins and seals but to also see a couple of whales.
We did the swim with wild seals or dolphins experience, and it was incredible! We were fitted out with our snorkel gear and wetsuits then taken on a boat out. The staff were really friendly and tried their best to find wild seals and dolphins. We were able to swim with wild seals and attempted to swim with dolphins however the dolphins swam away. The seal experience was the highlight of my time on Kangaroo Island!! Highly recommend.
We had an amazing experience seeing lots of seals and dolphins up close! The team was incredibly fun to join, and everything was perfectly organized. Highly recommend!
The one-hour experience was truly enjoyable. We saw many dolphins and seals, and we also received a bit of history and a geological overview. Elijah and Alex were wonderful and provided us with a fantastic experience.

We had glorious weather which added to our experience however the pizzas are so delicious, almost as great as the view and the wines were amazing. We had a wine flight package that included the pizzas. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff are so good that you feel very welcome and their knowledge is so valuable. This is a must visit
Nestled on the coast with breathtaking panoramic views of the sea, this winery offers a delightful escape. The wine tasting was a genuine pleasure, showcasing a well-curated selection of their own vintages. Each sip was complemented perfectly by the delicious food menu, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. What truly stood out, however, was the warm and attentive service. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the winery and the region. It's a place where you can easily lose track of time, savoring good wine, tasty food, and that incredible view. Highly recommended!
We started off our KI trip heading straight to Dudley Wines and it did not disappoint. The views are incredible, as well as the food and wine (definitely buy some bottles on your way out). Highly recommend 🍷
A fabulous winery with a fantastic view across Backstairs Passage! Great pizzas, platters made with local produce & self-guided wine flights. Have been to Kangaroo Island a few times and always make sure to visit Dudley Wines.
We booked the set menu online and it was great value. We shared a platter of nibbles followed by a tasty pizza each (we took leftovers because there was so much food). The wines were nice, I had a tasting flight (pictured) and my husband enjoyed the complimentary at-bar sampling before we chose our included glass each. The view over the ocean and cows in the valley was beautiful and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
Wrapped up the Kangaroo Island journey in the best way possible at Dudley Wines. A red wine tasting with stunning views set the tone—standouts like The Stud Shiraz and the Glossy Black Sweet Red hit just right. Paired it all with a Moroccan lamb pizza that was bursting with flavour, perfectly matched by the bold and juicy reds. Kicked back with a few rounds of table tennis, wine in hand, laughter echoing off the hills. And just when the day couldn’t get better—drove golf balls off the edge of a cliff into the ocean breeze, with the coastline stretching endlessly below. Absolutely unforgettable. Dudley Wines, you nailed it—laid-back, flavour-packed, and full of character. The perfect send-off from KI.
Great views, Incredible pizza. Wine was average in our opinion. Worth a visit
Can't beat the view, plus the platter and pizzas were amazing too, as were the staff also. Only suggestion, think ceiling fans under the verandah would be a great addition, was only a mild day, but with no breeze, it got really warm.

What a delightful beginning to our day on Kangaroo island! We were assisted by Nina, who not only offered a fountain a knowledge about how to unlock the treasures of kangaroo island but with her warm, engaging manner (and wonderful sense of humour) she made sure that even the grumpiest of our travellers came on board for the adventure she mapped out for us. Can’t wait to begin… Nina how do we get you the raise you so clearly deserve.
KI is a large island and the centre can help plan the most effective use of time and fuel. We used about 60 littres during a 3 day visit but unplanned it might have been double that. Note fuel on the island is expensive.
We had the pleasure of meeting Paloma at the information centre. She is truly a beautiful representative of the Kangaroo Island community. Kind, helpful, and resourceful, she made us feel very welcome and well-prepared for our trip. I'm particularly grateful for her assistance in keeping our bag safe during the Ocean safari tour. Starting our journey with her support made a big difference!💕
We had 4 days on the island and Sylvia provided us with a great itinerary. She was incredibly well informed and knowledgeable about all the venues and all issues related to the island and we found her to be very accurate in her evaluation of everything. Thanks to Sylvia from Ian Richard Tristan and sara
An erratic is a rock or boulder that is out of place; its mineralogy does not match the local bedrock of the area where it is found. Granite is a specific type of igneous rock, and when it's found as an erratic, it indicates the rock was formed in a distant location and transported to the present site by geological forces, usually a glacier. Kangaroo Island was covered by glaciers when it was much closer to the South Pole, as part of the supercontinent Gondwana, and these glaciers carried and left behind foreign rocks, known as erratics. Erratics are large, transported rocks deposited by ancient glaciers on the island's beaches, most notably at Christmas Cove near Penneshaw. These Palaeozoic glacial erratics provide evidence of glacial activity from over 250 million years ago, with the glaciers having carried the rocks from distant locations before dropping them as they retreated. Visitors can look for ice scratches on nearby cliff faces, which are further traces of this past glaciation. Around 250 million years ago, during the Permian-Triassic boundary and the event known as the Great Dying, Earth experienced a significant and sudden period of glaciation followed by intense global warming. New research suggests that the Permian-Triassic extinction event, the most catastrophic in Earth's history, was triggered not by initial global warming, but by a short but intense period of extremely cold temperature. The earliest SA geologist to explore Kangaroo Island was Johannes Menge. "The climate is very healthful on the island. It is neither so warm in summer nor so cold in winter as on the main land ; but the gales are heavier and there is less rain in general than on the main." These geological elements make the northern part of Kangaroo Island a globally significant site for understanding the Earth's history, providing a window into ancient landscapes and the processes that formed them.
There are some very cool things inside such as some echidna spikes and seahorses! The staff are all really friendly and willing to help you or answer any questions you might have about the island. The café is excellent with amazing quality food and fast wait times! I would 100% recommend visiting the centre while on Kangaroo Island.
Great place to find out information and things to see on your holiday away very kind understanding staff .highly recommend them
Poor information for people wishing to camp in Council or Parks Camp Grounds. I was told I could take a photo of the information. Made me feel like a budget traveller and I wasn’t so important. Not so friendly either but maybe that was just a one off.

Wonderful experience. Starts at 6 (in June) with a quick overview in the penguin center. Our guide patiently explained answered every question any one had before heading out. He was super knowledgeable / needless to say, he was very quickly able to spot activity amidst pitch dark and after that we were in for a treat watching these lovely little flightless wonders climb up the rocky outcropping along the sealink ferry terminal area that they call it home. Roughly 45 min to an hour was the length of the tour. We had to leave at 6:55 to catch our last Ferry back from kangaroo Island to Cape jarvis for the day at 7:30 but that was nbot an issue. So overall great experience
A truly underrated experience and a definite must do for anyone staying in Kangaroo island for the night. This is NOT the same experience as Philip Island - it's a very small and intimate community of lil penguins who have made the island their home. We were led by Renee, a true gem. She gave us a great brief before the tour started. As we walked down to the lookout point, we stopped at multiple points to view the penguins - as they swam their way to the coast, climbed and jumped across the rocks to get home, and aired themselves before they entered their home. We were even fortunate enough to see some chicks as they waited patiently for their parents to return with theur food. In total, we met a whopping 49 lil ones! It was the most memorable of experiences.
Great experience to see the little fairy penguins coming from a day at sea to their burrows. It had rained hard earlier so I had a private tour… the wind kicked it strong fly and we were able to see many adults and chicks from afar and very close. I was thankful I was provided with a rain coat and red light lantern. The tour was excellent providing g a short film and information on these cute creatures and their environment. I am glad I went!
The thrill of seeing little penguins in their environment was truly worth it! The cute little center that you meet up beforehand was lovely too. Expect the leader of the group to be very casual but will answer questions as you ask. Would highly recommend this tour!
We recently visited the Penneshaw Penguin Centre on Kangaroo Island. Our host was extremely attentive and enabled us to experience the nocturnal world of the little penguin. We are theoretically aware of how the penguins swim in after dark but watching them scramble onto the rocks and make their way up to their nests over the difficult terrain makes abstract theory very real. It reinforces how precarious is their life is and how precious is their habitat, which must be protected.
A good experience to see penguins but with a few concerns. The experience is very different from those you can get in melbourne particularly Philip Island. We saw quite a few penguins, including those coming out of the sea as well as those in their burrows. The guide was knowledgeable and gave us a lot of insight into the penguins. The down side is I think the tour group is way to large and there should either be more restrictions or supervision of children. I was on a tour of about 30. In the tour group coincidentally there was a wild life conservationist (from a different part of Australia) and a biologist as well as several children. As we headed out the tour guid specifically mentioned to keep the light torches pointed to our feet and when looking at the penguins to also point the torch to their feet, since although the red light is better than white light, it still bothers and can stress out the penguins. As we progressed on the tour and began to see penguins very few people followed directions. It was clear the penguins were stressed. There was on penguin that was under the path and people crowded it, stuck cameras in its face and a kid tried to pet it all while directly shining the light in its face. when i noticed I told the kid not to do that it took 5 minutes for the tour guide to notice and stop the crowd. This already made me uncomfortable and it wasnt the only instance of bad behavior towards the penguins. As we walked I overheard in different instances the biologist and the wild life conservationist talking to their partners mentioning that this tour seemed to be highly disruptive to the wild life. I think this tour has to be restructured a bit. maybe with two guides if the group will be this large.
We saw about two dozen penguins making their way to their chicks! Bronwyn was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide! Highly recommended it
We had an excellent time on our tour. Saw and heard so many penguins. Andy was very knowledgeable and made sure everyone felt welcome. Thank you to the team for the tours and your conservation.

I was greeted by a wonderful volunteer with a great attitude for having guests. Even ones that weren't carrying cash. The credit card reader was not in service at the time. He was very accommodating to make sure my long walk was not in vain. The exhibits were excellent.
Visited 5th Dec 2024 while on a cruise. We were greeted by a lovely volunteer who took the time to chat and welcome us. Thisis a great little museum with lots of interesting pieces and information. We were advised our entry fee goes to helping the seawall. It was surprising how many ships crashed on the rocks back in the day.
Not open on Sundays. They do state on internet they open at 2pm. Call the place prior to travelling over . We came over for the Markets ( no Markets) Then went for a walk and everything including fish shop/church/ice cream shop is closed. Not many locals seem to accommodate for the four ferries on the Sunday . We had money to spend but lots not open. Shop doors state open for Easter ,Xmas Holidays. Yet was not open on the 1st December 2019. Left Island early with plenty of cash . Shake my head .
Interesting learning about the early settlers, especially school teachers. The model ships are amazing with so much detail including the rigging.
It was never opened during its indicated opening hours the day we went there. We kept coming back to check but it never did open that day, without any notice. Looks really interesting though. We were really curious to see what's inside.
Very good it was great that one of the volunteers took time to come and open the museum for us ending up getting more customers. Our family appreciated the efforts of the volunteers.
Great place to visit. Love it. Thanks to the volunteers for keeping this place going. I hope you can get more help. To good a place and to much history to be lost. All the best, Colin.
Small but very interesting overview of the maritime history of KI. Some geological and social hisory information also.

Superb, quiet conservation area, set up very well for self sufficient campers to enjoy away from the crowds. Excellent toilet facilities and basic camping areas with smaller, more private sites at 1 - 4, and larger sites up higher at 5 - 10. Can only book online, which needs improvement, as, if someone cancels it takes about 5 days to process before the site becomes available again - this poses a disadvantage for people trying to obtain a site in busy times, as the site is vacant, but unable to be booked. Only 150m walk to the Pristine Antechamber Bay, one of the many Awesome Natural attractions of Kangaroo Island.
Amazing place love the views there is a north and south side of camp ground on the north side it’s a quicker walk to the beach and there is a toilet block with flushing toilets. On the south side there is a new toilet drop what is not on the website yet, you can also have camp fires in non fire ban season but be careful because of how easy it is to start a bush fire (you can not have camp fires on the north side), you can also have dogs on leads on the south side ( you can also not have dogs on the north side). Overall it’s a great place for camping, the sight is bookable. this camp is also for experienced campers, there is no power and only one bar of 3G on Telstra plan only. I loved the camp site heaps of space for spacing out tents for power we used solar panels what work well ( if you know how to use them) and it’s better than American river what’s all crowded this camp site is spread out and on the south side you are right next to a river so you a go kayaking too. I can say this is one of the best camp grounds on kangaroo island.
This is up and coming with recent ongoing renovations and improvements such as the suspension bridge. There is nature, hiking, picnic sites, toilets, and beach. We loved this park!
Quiet, great birdlife and fishing. new facilities. Good for camping and day trips. Large undercover BBQ area
We booked and stayed in the southern campground in section one and it was just perfect. There was even a portable toilet there, which was unexpected. Unfortunately the other sites in the first southern section were flood affected but I imagine that they, too, would be wonderful come summer.
Fantastic spot to camp on Kangaroo Island. The beach is stunning, we even spotted dolphins from the shore. The bathrooms were the nicest we've seen in a conservation or national park (flushing toilets with running water!). It's only a short (20 minute) drive to Penneshaw.
What a beautiful little hideaway. Took awesome pics. New BBQ facilities Awesome camping spot. Beach access and the Chapman River all in one spot 👌

We asked Kate for a customised 'wondering' menu that reflected our culture and personalities. We didn't want the traditional sit down or cocktail standard package. The food was out of this world, and they really went above and beyond to deliver exactly what we wanted! They made special dishes just for us to fit in with our Polish/Kangaroo Island, local, fresh, organic and in season flare. It's been a couple of weeks since our wedding, and we are still getting compliments about how delicious the food was. Not only was the food perfect, local and fresh but so was the service and rest of the staff. We highly recommend Kate and her team at KI Source for any catering, both private & corporate sectors. They offered us an unique 5 star bespoke service at our private remote venue space. We couldn't be happier with our decision to choose KI Source for our wedding.
Tried the Fuego Hot sauce and Vindaloo Paste, they looked nice from the outside but both were nothing like I expected when using them. Hot sausage super oily and vindaloo tasted nothing like vindaloo. Balance of ingredients felt really off

This delightful little park is near the Sealink terminal. Takes about an hour to walk around all the sculptures. There are also Haiku poems scattered throughout the park. Entry is free. Well worth a visit. Not disability accessible.
Luck for us we had time to visit the sculpture trail before getting the ferry back it’s well worth making a visit to wander along the trails looking for arty sculptures and enjoying the views
Easy, inexpensive (free) experience with plenty of loops to entertain kids, wildlife, ocean views and artwork.
Just another delightful feature of Penneshaw, the wonderful (free entry) Sculpture Trail located just along the beach from the ferry terminal and town centre. Some really creative pieces and a lovely well maintained walkway with good signage
A great little sculpture trail up and down the gully. The trail is 1.5km with lots of stairs so not really accessible for everyone. Nice views from several places. The maps along the way are very useful for indicating where you are as the trail is not just one circuit. It has circuits going off at different points. Quite a few chairs to sit along the way and take in the views.
Lovely walk with lots of beautiful sculptures. We also saw plenty of wallabies which was a bonus.
Kids had fun! Easy track for our kids 4 & 7. Even saw a wallaby hopping around good place to kill time while waiting for our ferry trip.
Free walking trail with various sculptures amongst the native fauna. Some interesting local pieces mostly steel art. Not far from pier, ferry cruise ship and town. Little steep so but suitable for wheel chairs or those who can’t do steps. Best things in life are free! Enjoy

Oi oi oi this is the best food we had in KI and super please it was our last meal before we catcher the ferry. The steak was on point, hats off to the chef! And we ordered the fish of the day, the salmon was cooked to perfection with the skin crispy!! BIG TIP, if you reach there at 12 pm you will sea dolphins in the sea, we were so lucky to catch it by accident! Big thank you to the restaurant staff, incredible food and atmosphere!
Food was great! I had a seafood pasta and my partner got a steak. Everything was delicious. Get desserts if you make the trip! Vibe dining in was great and music was fun. Gorgeous setting. Staff were kind and so welcoming. Will be going back before the end of our trip!
We were a group of four which included an interstate couple who were first time visitors to Kangaroo Island. We started off sharing some buttermilk crispy chicken bites which were delicious. The mains selected were Beef schnitzel with extra pepper gravy Pulled chicken burger Sweet Potato curry Moroccan Cauliflour A good selection of pub classics and vegetarian options. Food was delicious and of a high quality and staff were very friendly. Would recommend and definitely return.
Great little pub at Penneshaw. When we were there it was the only option as the other restaurants were either closed or under renovation. We were expecting pub quality food but what we got was well beyond our expectations. The food was nicely presented, the food was fresh and delicious. Staff was friendly and very welcoming.
Dinner was excellent. Staff were accommodating. Had no issue using a gift voucher. Food was delicious. I had lamb shoulder and honey pancotta can highly recommend both. The view over looking the ocean is also amazing.
Went for lunch and dinner. Food was delish both meals. Lunch service was friendlier than dinner tho 🤷🏻‍♂️ Lovely view if you sit outside. Manage to get table without reservation.
Pretty impressive food in a family friendly setting at a friendly price point. Had the steak which was executed brilliantly medium rare as ordered (no small feat seriously given the cut). Chips were crispy and the sauce was good. Side salad was a bit of a let down but otherwise a very decent plate. Online booking was fuss-free and worked off an integrity system of ‘let us know if circumstances change’ rather than holding your credit card hostage. Ample free parking outside. If in the area, you can’t go wrong here.
Delicious meals, friendly staff! Visited the Penny on all three KI visits in the last 6months and each time with groups 6 people to 16 people and each time they have been able to accommodate us and have been so lovely and friendly. The meals were well priced.
