This is an amazing museum. It has a working turn table with the 3 Aussie rail guages and steam train wheel weighbridge. The great thing about the museum though is you can access the trains and carriages. Fantastic history. Allow 2 hours for the guided tour.
Absolutely brilliant. Shirley our tour guide was very informative and lovely! Well worth the tour if you’re stopping in. We will be back in the future to do the night light show
A very good evening show was put on which cost $30, and I was able to take my dog. It gave a detailed explanation of how the railway started and how Peterborough became so important. I couldn’t help wonder how anyone got anything clean with so many steam trains pumping out smoke all day! 😂 It was a good movie and light show, nicely done. Plenty of parking and toilets on site
Fascinating look into the days of steam train travel and the major part that Peterborough played in it. Highly recommend the guided tour in the day time and the light and sound show at night.
Outside sheds are by guided tour only. It's worth it The old carriage rolling stock interior worth the looking at CR locomotives ex Ghan especially
Great collection of historic buildings and rail cars and locomotives. It's a bit sad that nothing is alive any more since they no longer have access to track to run trains. Knowledgeable guide with continuous tour around the site so you can join at any time with little wait. Timing didn't allow us to attend the light and sound show but I have heard it is very good.
Very good...loads to see and quite interesting
Such a great intro to our outback rail system. Came across more and more as I headed down the line. Guided tour option is fantastic.

Went on night time tour. Well worth it. Starts 8.30pm. Go into main shed see locos then walk to turning table and hop on passenger car. There you watch an amazing show for an hour.
Such a shame that the Visitors Centre and Steamtown is normally closed. We were just lucky that they were having a one- off guided tour, which was fantastic. So much history and all the steam trains and infrastructure still there. It really needs to be preserved and reopened.
Excellent. Did the railway light show at night. If u stay caravan park the get u a free taxi to and from the site. Well worth the money. I didn't want to go. But glad l did.
Brilliant. The trains tour was well worth the time it took. 2 hours of very informative history of Sth. Australian trains. The trains they have in there is incredible.
Excellent information and advice about planned travel into Southern and Central Flinders Ranges.
Great staff, a lot of them remember the trains actually working
Went through Peterborough and made sure we were there when it said it was open (10-4 on weekdays) only to arrive be told it was closed, very much disappointed. Prob wont get to see it again as so far from home

A little eerie, it really does look as if you are rolling uphill. The way there is dirt roads and slow going. You want the sign to be on your right when you turn off the car.
Kids actually really loved this! I might have hyped up the car being pulled up a hill a bit though!!
What a great, random attraction. A 5 minute drive from the main highway on an unsealed road brings you to this cool little stop. Just a fun random attraction that works one way or another!
Enjoy for 1 minute but drive for 7 hours back and forth (from Adelaide CBD). It was fun but not worth it in my opinion. It could be enjoyable for kids but again, decide if the drive is worth it. Last few kms are definitely on dirt road. But I was able to access it with ease on Mazda CX 5. It was a dry day so easy to access.
An illusion that could be the makings of some comical filming, however i would not go out of my way just to see it.
Great fun experience. 👍 Nice drive out from peterborough. Plenty of scenery and an enjoyable fun experience. Yes the car went up hill in reverse. Do it. Kids will be amazed.
If you have the time to drive out here it's certainly a novelty that is worth it. I met an older couple who was also there and the man driving looked like a kid on Christmas morning so that made the trip worth it for me haha.
Very funny for small and old kids 😀 Love the story of how it was discovered.

Awesome collection, thank you Ian and Belinda, love seeing so many of the small capacity bikes and the 'Slade' Beneli Sei is superb 😍👍Thank you
Great to see different bikes of older times. Just one large room with 2 smaller knock knack rooms off to side. If you’re passing through, make the effort to go but probably not worth going out of your way. Gentlemen who owns it is very friendly and welcomed any questions.
The owner was very knowledgeable and friendly and informed us of the stories behind some of their bikes.
Excellent collection of bikes and other paraphernalia, $7 well worth the visit , even non motorcycle fans will be interested, glad we stopped and looked.
I didn't go in😔It's probably a great museum but keep in mind they have Zero tolerance for dogs of any sort. Not even well behaved fur babies are allowed to sit quietly inside the door out of the heat.....I bet they accept bratty kids.
One mans obsession. What a great display. If your into bikes, go have a look.
A very interesting and informative display of all the is Motorcycles. All questions answered with enthusiasm and professionalism. Some great history and vintage items all on show from the local area
Some very rare and interesting motorcycles and other antiques. Well worth a visit.

I went a few years ago and I had forgotten to write a review but honestly it was the best guided tour of a museum I have ever been on! I had no knowledge of printing but never lost interest in what the volunteer tour guide told us. She was passionate, engaging and amazing!!!! Would highly recommend
Excellent tour of bygone history with working printing machines. Our guide and her assistant, Mary and Peter, were excellent. Highly recommend a visit.
Fabulous Exhibition, working equipment. Very informative.
Took a tour of the printing works today. Having a history in the printing trade, it was good to see the various machines, tools, type cases, setting sticks etc., that I once used myself, so lovingly restored. to working condition. Very well informed tour guide took us took through the history of the Peterborough Printing Works. Very impressed indeed! Michael Byrne ex-Gov Print
The tour of the printing works is a snapshot in time. Don't miss it.
Absolutely loved this place, really excellent tour very informative all the ladies were so lovely and helpful, we found this great friendly service everywhere we went in Peterborough
This place is fascinating! Make sure you do a tour and find out about the amazing work they are doing there at the moment!
Really fascinating piece of history kept alive by a great group of volunteers. Totally worth the entrance fee.

5 stars cause I love dogs 😊🐾 Situated in the main street of Peterborough South Australia near the railway station (obviously). Cute backstory. Peterborough is a lovely small town and really worth a stay there. They love their trains
A nice little town. Visited the wire art exhibition. Had a lovely morning tea in the quaint tea room.
Peterborough certainly rides on the back of its steam railway history, and it is impressive. Bob the Railway Dog was certainly a part of the rail history when it was at its peak, and a much loved animal he was. It’s good that he’s still remembered and this is a nice little tribute. It’s just in front of the Museum Carriage which is an interesting piece of memorabilia
Peterborough is only a smallish town with a population of around 2,000 but there's lots to see, especial in terms of railway train history. Make sure you don't miss Bob the Railway Dog Statue in the main street.
Lovely story about an extraordinary dog who travelled on his own and with his Peterborough owner all over Australia hopping on and off trains, trams and even paddle standards
Great little town with lots of rail history and super friendly locals, made us feel very welcome. Gets a tad cold in mid winter but bring your woolies and you will be fine.
Nice little memorial for an amazing little dog
Home-keeping dogs have homely wits, Their notions tame and poor; I scorn the dog who humbly sits Before the cottage door, Or those who weary vigils keep, Or follow lovely kine; A dreary life midst stupid sheep Shall ne'er be lot of mine. For free from thrall I travel far, No fixed abode I own; I leap aboard a railway car; By every one I' know; Today I am here, tomorrow brings Me miles and miles away; Borne swiftly on steams rushing wings, I see fresh friends each day. Each Driver from the footplate hales My coming with delight; I gain from all upon the rails; A welcome ever bright; I share the perils of the line with mates from end to end, Who would not for a silver mine Have harm befall their friend Let other dogs snarl and fight, And round the city prowl, Or render hideous the night With unmelodious howl. I have a cheery bark for all, No ties my travels clog; I hear the whistle, that's the call For Bob, the driver's dog.

Stayed here 2/10/25.. Rooms are large and clean. even the bathroom has plenty of space. After a very long day on the road, it was an absolute pleasure to meet somebody as lovely as Karen. I have now stayed at the Roundhouse twice over almost a decade, Both stays have been wonderful. No need to look anywhere else when staying in Peterborough.
Great location! Room was clean and big, beds were comfy. Had everything you need in there! Bathroom was clean and nice hot showers. Value for money. 100% stay here again when we come back!
They have an automated check-in kiosk, which is great when you are driving in late and don't know when you will arrive. Got a Queen Room room 18 which was clean, although getting a bit tired now with some damaged furniture and worn fittings. Biggest issue is that the electric blanket did not seem to work and the air conditioning made a horrible chirping noise that meant that I had to turn it off if I wanted any chance to sleep. Fridge is also getting pretty old and noisy. Tea making facilities were great, the rooms are large and have everything that you would expect.
Room was very outdated. Air conditioner was old wall mounted and very noisy unit. We needed a disability accessible room. There has a rail beside the toilet, but that's about it! The bathroom was extremely small. I use a commode, whilst in the shower, the curtain could not be closed and my legs were almost up against the toilet. Bathroom flooded. Think twice is my recommendation if you require accessible accommodation
Loved our stay still staying there again till the 28th pet friendly awesome lovely staff clean and tidy very nice place no complaints awesome as made me feel at home away from home. Would love to come back and see the pool open though haha was a bit sad it was closed over winter love a cold swim
So lovely to stay in a well maintained motel room! Very reasonably priced at $130. Heater works, has bathmat and face washer included with the towels. Staff welcoming.
I didn’t encounter any staff members upon arrival, so I can’t comment on the service. The location is nice, as it’s tucked away from the main streets, which is probably the only positive aspect of this motel. Unfortunately, the facilities are in very poor condition. There were shopping trolleys scattered around, large carts with dirty linen parked right in front of our room, and the pool looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in days. Guests were smoking just outside their rooms, and the smell wafted into ours when we tried to open the door for fresh air. Additionally, the outdoor lights stayed on and bright well into the night, making it difficult to relax. While the room was clean, it was very outdated and in desperate need of an upgrade. The beds were extremely uncomfortable—by far the worst we’ve experienced during our trip, having stayed at nine other places. If you’re charging rates comparable to or higher than other motels in South Australia, you need to meet those standards or adjust your pricing to reflect the current state of your property. I’m a very positive traveller who sees something positive in everything but….
The Roundhouse Motel is definitely a nice place to stay. The room was very clean and comfortable bed.plenty of Parking space. The owner and her mum are fantastic, very obliging and very friendly. They make you feel real welcome. I definitely recommend the meals in their restaurant. The best chicken schnitzel I have had in a very long time.I will definitely stay again when travelling that way.
