The beach is beautiful, clean and long, the water crystal clear. The carpark was a tight fit with not much wriggle room it getting in to park spaces or out of, the carpark itself is not overly big.
Semaphore Beach is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking sunsets, as seen in this stunning image. The golden hues of the sun melting into the horizon create a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to unwind. The calm waters, the long jetty stretching into the sea, and the occasional silhouettes of people enjoying the ocean add to its charm. Semaphore Beach is known for its clean shores, gentle waves, and family-friendly environment. Whether you’re looking to take a relaxing stroll along the sand, go for a swim, or simply sit back and enjoy the view, this beach provides the perfect setting. The nearby foreshore offers great cafes, walking paths, and a fun, laid-back vibe. If you’re in Adelaide and love coastal beauty, Semaphore Beach is a must-visit destination, especially during sunset—it’s truly magical!
Lovely jetty on a lovely beach in a lovely area. This was my first visit but I have a feeling there is heaps more to explore so will definitely be back. The jetty is used for walking, fishing or just enjoying the view. The kite festival was on when I visited so the jetty was jam packed.
Semaphore Beach, with its iconic Jetty stretching 585 meters into the sea, offers more than just a scenic walk. It's a place where you can truly connect with nature and feel the breeze on your face as you stroll along this lengthy structure. Walking the Jetty lets you soak in the vast ocean and the calming rhythm of the waves. The surrounding beach area is perfect for families, offering plenty of space to sit, play, and enjoy the day. With an array of cafes and eateries close by, it's easy to grab a bite or a refreshing drink after a day in the sun. Semaphore is not just a beach; it's a community hub with a rich history, making it a peaceful retreat and an excellent spot for soaking up Adelaide's coastal beauty. Whether you're seeking mindfulness, a family day out, or simply a leisurely walk, Semaphore is a perfect choice. 💫
The Jetty is fantastic for walks and date nights. Lifeguards are stationed around, and there's an ongoing summer festival with cool rides. You can also take a $10 very old fun train ride touring the long semaphore beach and back in for like good 15minutes, it’s more like a kid ride, and for kids at heart too lol. Lots of restaurants, cafes, and easy parking nearby. Great place!
A favourite place to come and see the sunrise and sunset. Particularly pleasant in Spring/Summer.
My Wife Jeannette and Myself Had our Photo's Taken after i Re-proposed to My Loving Wife Jeannette, it Was a Little Cold that Evening l, But None the Less it was A Lovely and Beautiful Place on and Around The Jetty with Spectacular Views of The Ocean. The Only Disapointing Thing Was that The Decking On The Jetty Was Uneven, and A Trip Hazzard, Especially for Anyone who Might have Mobility Issues.
Its beautiful. I saw seals there.. there is no crowd..

Charming cinema with friendly staff and very affordable! The seats were comfy and they had mobile arms in case you need more space. I'll definitely be back and might even indulge in one of their Windback Wednesday sometime.
Cinema was decent, sound and screen were good but it wasn’t very clean, seats were uncomfortable. Minimal leg room made sitting down for 2-3 hours very uncomfortable.
Love the classic look. The cheapest movie ticket prices, 3 cinemas running, decent sized. The seats aren’t the most comfortable but it does have a little recliner function. Sound isn’t the greatest but still experience the dramatic theme songs well. If you’re looking for no thrill cheap deal movies, this it the Place to Be!
Odeon Cinema has always felt really wholesome to me. A cosy, family-owned spot with that old-school vibe I love. It’s got a comforting charm that you just don’t find in big chain cinemas. Back in high school, my friends and I would walk down in the afternoon sometimes to catch a movie here. Now that I’m in my late 20s, coming back for Wineback Wednesdays feels like a full-circle moment. It brings back so many memories, and there's something really special about that.
The cinema is nice, but I just have to wonder why the only movie showing at the Odeon during a reasonable time that isn’t playing at 9 o'clock. (That’s around bedtime for some people!) Is an old movie from the 1960s, and it’s Friday night. Can anyone explain that?
Staff very friendly and prices super cheap but please please clean the seats, they are filthy, stained and gross to sit on. Or perhaps change to pleather which is super easy to keep clean :)
First time to visit, enjoyed the retroness of it all. Tickets were only $10 so that was nice. Staff were friendly. Choc top was awesome! The only bad thing was the leg room in the cinema (I went to Cinema 1). I'm a short arse and it was a bit uncomfortable, so not sure how a tall person would feel.
Looks like a great place didn't have chance to go. Wenseday night look good. Old school movie night.

The staff were great we didn't have to wait to get onto any of horse. And the train ride was just near here also. Plus right on the beach, great day out
Run by Rotary Club volunteers this 100 year old carousel is quaint and charming. Plenty of photos of its history mostly in Semaphore... There are a couple of seats if the little ones are too frightened of the horses. Wheelchairs can be strapped in.
We stopped in to Semaphore knowing that the Carousel was a big part of the beach side attractions! My two year old niece was lucky enough that the staff let her ride the entire thing all to herself! Thanks boys, she absolutely loved it! It was actually my first ride too! It was exactly like all those American movies you see on the tele. For $6 a ride, it's totally worth the ride for a bit of history & childlike nostalgia. There is a height restriction of 120cm but as the adult guardian, you are permitted to stand alongside the child for free.
We took our disabled grandson to the carousel today and we were advised that there was no cost for our grandson and our son was also allowed to go on the carousel without paying to enable him to accompany him during the ride. The volunteers who run the carousel were so understanding and made this so much more of a wonderful experience. Thank you to the people who run this wonderful iconic attraction
The carousel was great but the venue wasn't much. We had an interstate family reunion here expecting it to be a perfect place for kids. The Lions Club do a great job but why is it all wrapped up in tin? Semaphore is beautiful and so are your horses. Use glass, more expensive but showcases what you have here, don't make it dark and dingy. Just a thought ...
Iconic carousel in semaphore at the time of writing the carousel was closed. It normally opens on holidays Easter and Christmas.
Wow this carousel is awesome! So fast! So many to choose from!
At $6 per ride could not of complained and the money supports rotary and if you are standing with your child they let you go for free enquired about a party they are $200 for the first hour and $150 each hour after and we supply own food and drinks I will be going back for more rides

So peaceful and poetic. An ideal place for family gathering on weekends. Not busy and crowded much. Be careful with strong wind.
Great location along the beach. Great fun in warmer weather after a day at the beach. It’s a tad run down and only open on weekends. Close to the sheltered bbq facilities and lawned area. Public toilets/shower nearby.
Great fun for the family, close to beach, jetty, shops, cafe's and some fine eateries.👍
Love this place, slice of heaven on Earth.
Top family spot , exelent cafe,s cool muscle cars & harleys along esplanade free day out.
Cheap small Park. Great for small kids. Large free playground as well as paid rides. The paid rides general leave over winter. The lawn is well maintained great for a picnic, and lots of takeaway shops close by on jetty road. The traffic is really slow along Esplanade during events but there is a lot of parking asking beach prior to jetty road, just be prepared to walk 500m or more
Slides are great but the waves where free
Great location to play some pokies and have a drink

Point Malcolm Reserve is a fantastic destination for those looking to unwind and enjoy the serenity of nature. This picturesque spot features a well-maintained park where kids can play to their heart's content, making it ideal for families with young children. The reserve also boasts spacious picnic areas equipped with barbecue facilities, perfect for gathering with loved ones and enjoying a delicious outdoor meal. Just a short stroll away, you'll find a quiet and stunning beach, offering pristine sands and crystal-clear waters. It's an excellent spot for beachcombing, leisurely walks, or simply soaking up the coastal beauty. The reserve is surrounded by lush greenery, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. With its combination of natural beauty and family-friendly amenities, Point Malcolm Reserve is a must-visit for anyone seeking relaxation and quality time in the great outdoors.
Super busy little place. Plenty of lawn area, big kids playground, flying fox and an exercise area on one side. Then the courts - tennis and basketball in brand new condition. And then the littler kids area with plenty of climbing, music, trampolines, sandpit and water play. BBQ facilities, not too many bench seats around though. Lots of walking paths and toilets at semaphore surf club.
Great park with easy access to the beach. Haven't checked out the surf club yet it's on the tado list. It gets busy but there's heaps of room so if you can bring your own shelter then your winning. Checked your weather reports before hitting the beach for a sunset swim because this beach tends to be a bit blowy even when you least expect it.
Great camping spot. It has room for caravans as well as tents. BBQs camp kitchen and yes a toilet block. (which is clean)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Point Malcolm Reserve is, I must declare, the Pemberley of playgrounds - vast, handsome, and possessed of so many amusements that one feels quite exhausted merely surveying them. Upgraded in 2017 (a most agreeable modernisation), it now boasts climbing towers so tall they might give even Lady Catherine pause, and a slide so perilously steep it could deliver one from youth to adulthood in a single descent. The grounds stretch magnificently between Military Road and the sea, offering both civility and chaos in equal measure. Children may climb, tumble, or shriek to their hearts’ content, while their parents - poor souls - attempt to appear delighted. There are courts for basketball and tennis, though I observed them largely occupied by fathers pretending to exercise while secretly hoping their children lose interest in the playground. Picnic tables abound, though beware the sea breeze, which delights in removing napkins and modesty alike. The beach beyond the dunes is a marvel - soft sand, forgiving waves, and the promise of escape should the playground prove too lively. Toilets are available (a modern miracle), the car parking abundant, and the general atmosphere one of cheerful bedlam. In short, Point Malcolm Reserve is a triumph of municipal ambition - a place where children may expend their energy, adults may recover theirs, and everyone may depart sandy, sunburnt, and slightly unhinged. Five stars.
Been here before many years ago and came back to find such a big change. The playground was upgraded in 2017 and looks amazing. There are lots of activities for the little ones (kids under 3 years too). Older kids would love the big structure at the middle (challenging climb but fun) and a steep slide. It has gym equipments at one section for anyone wanting a workout. There are multiple BBQs stoves (undercover areas), tennis courts and there is the toilet at the surf life saving building (free to the public). Lots of parking and the beach is in walking distance. There are two flying foxes and multiple swings and slides too. Also, there is a beautiful xylophone to use for musically inclined little ones. We had a nice and wonderful experience. The only negative feedback: the council should install a toilet nearer to the playground.
One of our favourites in Semaphore, shade, flying fox range of play equipment for younger and older kids. MINUITES to the beach. Picnic grounds and tables. Also toilets and acess to the beach .We all LOVE it ❤️
Nice playground with big area to walk around, great location for family and friends for picnic. BBQ area chairs tables and shelters. and walking distance to the beach. Complete with basketball court and tennis courts.

Perfect place to sit eat your fish and chips and watch the world go by. Great views over semaphore foreshore and jetty. Well kept lawn and plenty of bins. The time ball is still fully operational and drops daily around 1.
Awesome spot to sit and watch the world go by ☺ especially in summer around sunset 💙💙

I love this beach and foreshore. Great place to bring the kids and family at any age. Large play ground for the kiddies and some side shows and merry-go-round for the old ones. The beach is so large that you can always find a spot to yourself. The water is very still and protected so is great for a float or paddle on a hot day followed by an ice cream or beer. Plenty of cool spots to eat on the main street.
I love this beach - it's huge and full of character. There is plenty of parking around as well as toilets and children's play area. It's a great beach to take long walks on and explore the creatures in the shallows and on the rocks. Semaphore itself also has lots on offer - especially if you're an ice-cream lover. The photos are from my visit to the Kite Festival two days ago.
Beautiful beach has in my eyes best in the World. White sand. Best beach walk stretch to Grange. Wheelchair friendly paths sprawled along the way. Shady trees and lawn. The Palais for a coffee break or brunch stop or dinner.
Went to Semaphore foreshore Wednesday 16th April 2025 on a beautiful warm 32 degree Celsius day with almost mirror smooth seas. Not crowded for the school holidays. Plenty of free parking. Toilets available with free drinking water dispenser and open space showers to wash away the sand after swimming. Popular kiddies train which goes some distance adjacent the road which you have to pay. Kids covered playground. Plenty of well maintained green grassy areas with the occasional dog walker and bike riders along the asphalt path. Beautiful white sandy beach and generally safer for the kids swimming but always maintain vigilance. Could possibly need more Norfolk island pine trees for shade or covered picnic areas near the carparking areas. Probably one of the best value for money attractions that Adelaide has to offer.
This is a beautiful location with an amazing white sand beach. Perfect for the kids or just a walk. Ocean view was utterly amazing.
Love this spot — ocean views and old buildings side by side. Cafés and supermarkets are super close, but parking’s packed on sunny weekends.
Very pleasant walk. Try Shelley's on the beach. Great coffee !!. Menu a little plain & on the high side. However enjoy the view, atmosphere, read a book or sit & think.
If you want some lone time, its good . Not much happening beside from the beach though. Few stores near the beach , but plenty parking places

What a fascinating piece of history. The volunteers do a wonderful job in keeping it well maintained and also reenacting how the guns are fired. The night experience was a treat.
⭐⭐⭐☆☆ A fascinating slice of history, but not without its shadows. Fort Glanville is one of those places that every South Aussie should visit at least once. Tucked behind the dunes at Semaphore Park, it’s one of the best-preserved colonial-era forts in the country – complete with cannons, drill halls, and reenactments that take you straight back to the late 1800s. The volunteers from the Fort Glanville Historical Association do a cracking job bringing it all to life. I’ve got my own piece of history here too – back on 13 March 1986, I was serving as a musician in the Royal Australian Navy, and had the honour of playing the euphonium for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when she visited the fort and the newly built visitor centre. She spent almost an hour here, and it’s a memory I won’t forget in a hurry. There’s even a plaque at the site that marks the occasion. That said, it’s important to recognise Fort Glanville for what it is: a symbol of South Australia's colonial past – a time when British imperialism was quite literally fortified with stone, steel, and gunpowder. It was built to “protect” the colony, but like many heritage sites across this country, it tells only part of the story. The Kaurna people, the traditional custodians of this land, are barely acknowledged here. There’s a missed opportunity to talk honestly about how colonisation displaced First Nations peoples from Yarta – this Country. If you’re heading down Semaphore way, it’s worth popping in on one of their open days. Just go with your eyes open – and maybe ask a few questions about whose stories are being told… and whose are left out.
Interesting place to visit, I came across it during our stay in the caravan park nearby, no trains it was a week day. Interesting to read about it and it's history
Attended for the May open day, which was at night. We got to see re-enactments in historically accurate uniforms and firing of the old canons and rifles. We got to take a tour of the fort.
Wonderful experience The guides are friendly and helpful. You can see old historical fort as well as guns and cannons firing ( only on the third Sunday of the month)
It seems to be open only on Sunday and not every week. If you are interested in visiting, you'd better check the opening time in advance.
This place is Awesome! Found this place so interesting and learnt so much about Adelaide's history. This place has been lovingly restored and has an amazing volunteer team looking after both the fort and visitors. I would highly recommend if you have a thirst for history or want to know more about the land we live then visit Fort Glanville. I also would like to thank the amazing volunteers and especially John for taking the time to give us a tour around the fort. You're so knowledgeable and an asset to the fort and to Adelaide history.
Average view but definitely had a good stroll
