What an amazing collection of history!! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND A VISIT TO THIS HUGE MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIANA! For a $15 adult entry price, we wandered the acres of museum for hours viewing so many well kept items from years ago. The volunteers there are happy to chat and are proud as punch of the fabulous array of history that they are Custodians of. There is lots to view from the local area and beyond. Wow. We were shocked at the size of the collection and the fabulous condition of everything. Do yourself a favour and drop into Gulgong to see this place and the beautiful town it sits in Spend some money and have some lunch, the town folk here are delightful!
How many of us know that AUD 10 note featured a portrait of Henry Lawson, an Australian poet and writer, along with images of buildings and bush scenes from Gulgong ! The museum takes you back to a bygone era … the doll collection, vintage candy shop , amazingly preserved cottage. It’s seems a piece of time has been frozen and well preserved. Items and well preserved and documented. Please visit the town and take a tour of the museum.
What a great spot to stop and see some of the local and Australian history. So much to see. Old vehicles, clothing, cameras, projectors, coins guns and heaps more. So glad we stopped. 15 dollar adult entry. Worth every dollar. Easy wheelchair access. Maybe a bit tight I side and some steps inside but would see most of it.
The most impressive Australian historical museum I have ever been to in NSW. It covered absolutely everything you could imagine. You need at least 3 hours to see everything properly. There is a lot of love and pride in this museum and the $15 entry fee is way too low. Highly recommended!
i love this place. i’m from penrith but a very big history nerd. i’ve visited three times and im still in awe every single time. such an amazing museum for so cheap. my favorite is definitely the doll room :)
This is a wonderful place to visit, you can easily lose yourself in times gone by and revel in the nostalgia. There are thousands of items in a kind of labyrinth-like display that meanders along creaky old floors to showcase beautifully set up rooms that graphically illustrate the way of life of early Australia. Highly recommend a visit but set aside at least two hours to thoroughly immerse yourself in the history that this place offers. Good value entry fee and staffed by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. This was our second visit and still we are in awe of the place.
Have never seen so many different things to see in one place! The collection is huge! It’s so well set up and laid out. There are tractors and all types of farm equipment, horse drawn vehicles, old house hold items like record players and radios, fossils, sporting artefacts, toys, even buildings from the 1800s set up as they would have liked. I would never have thought so many items could fit into one museum! And it’s affordable to visit. You can get a ticket and leave and have lunch and return. How good is that! Well done to all the wonderful volunteers who look after this wonderful museum.
Amazing collection of history, could have spent hours more here!

A wonderful museum, full of history about Henry Lawson. A great place full of information, photos and documents about Mr Lawson. Helpful staff always willing to assist. A gem of a museum very worthy of a visit.
Unfortunately, arrived close to closing time. Could have spent more time there, some interesting information.
Small museum devoted to Henry Lawson. Lots of art work matched to his poetry, which I really enjoyed. It was fabulous to see something apart from a heritage museum in a country town. Congratulations to the volunteers who put this together and to those who maintain it!
Very interesting display. Learnt a lot about Henry Lawson that we didn't know before. Staffed by volunteers who do a great job. Lots of photos and stories of him and his family. Also, Gulgong is an interesting historic town.
We suggested to a few of our guests that they visit the Henry Lawson Society Centre here in Gulgong. They returned back to the Gulgong Motel and thanked us as they really enjoyed their time at the Centre. They said the "Society hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable" That they learned many facts about Henry Lawson's life. Regards, Wayne Mathews - Mgr.
An authentic display of the life and works of Henry Lawson; often a sad story but a man who captured the real story of struggles and achievements of Australian life. A great presentation from Peter Donnell! Thank you from Fred Cook, Kurranulla Probus Club
Great little piece of Henry Lawson history. Loved it.
I visited the museum in March 2022 and developed a fascination for Henry Lawson. I gave a talk about him at my village today.

A must to Visit when in Gulgong. The whole area and place is super clean and tidy, plenty of shaded areas lots of seating available, toilets and even a free BBQ to use. There’s also a very nice tea and coffee shop there with a variety of different things to eat. Lots of great history about Gulgong on display and a mine tour you can do. There’s also Gold panning to do with the kids which is fantastic and will definitely find something in the pan. There’s plenty of parking areas and easy parking with a caravan. Very short walk then if you want to head into the town ship of Gulgong to check it out.
We did a day trip to mudgee and went to Gulgong as my husband grew up there as a child. We loved the experience but want to go back and do the tour which wasn't open when we were there. Great place for the kids to learn about Australian History.
Lovely Experience. Friendly staff. Kids can spend some time with Gold panning, rest nothing much to do. Opening hours are 1-3pm only.
We drive all the way from Sydney and have an email confirmation to visit on a Sunday and on turning up are told it’s closed. Pathetic!!! Just so unprofessional and for our 8 year old son a really frustrating experience. What a joke.
Good History lesson for the kids!
We braved the non-stop rain to head out to Gulgong to visit the Gold Mine in the Central West of NSW/Mudgee Region. And I must admit it was worth the drive and effort. First off I'd like to thank Dave who welcomed us there and told us all about the history of the Gulgong town and the gold mine. The Gulgong Gold Experience is quite a popular tourist attraction especially if you have kids and they want to get a feel of what's it like to look for gold. You can buy a bag for $5 including a pan to experience searching for gold. It's a fun learning activity for kids and adults too (if you're up for it). There is a video that you can watch at the museum and learn about how gold was first discovered here and how the town got established around 1870. Even Henry Lawson and his family lived in Gulgong during the #goldrush. The place is run by volunteers who are very knowledgeable and polite. There is an entry fee of $5 per adult, $3 for children and $15 for families. They open from 1300hrs until 1500hrs Wednesdays through to Sundays. Headout to their website to find out more.
The guide there was brilliant and explained the heritage and history in detail, he knows his stuff and even volunteered to take photos for us! An interesting piece of relic in Gulgong. A must visit if you are traveling to Gulgong.
Very helpful staff Well priced Not long and drawn out My husband got a kick out of sifting through the pan Kids would love it
