This museum has a diverse mix of marine craft over and above those associated with Bass and Flinders. Our guide Ivy was very knowledgeable and clearly explained the significance of each exhibit. Wish I had more time to explore more of the items. Need more than 2 hours to do it justice.
What a maritime museum - absolutely outstanding- very friendly and informative guides. The history contained in this building is unbelievable. The various boats both original and replica’s on display is stunning. What those early Mariners/Sailors had at their disposal and what they managed to achieve is unbelievable. The replica of the Norfolk is an example of the passion of those who were involved with the building of the ship and those involved in her sailing. During our visit we were lucky enough to hear from one of the crew of the Norfolk who was on board during the 1998 sailing from the mainland to Tasmania. Highly recommend
Brilliant museum for its size. Welcoming staff, guided tour including information from an attendee of the reburial of Flinders in the UK. Replica boats, maps photos. Absolutely worth visiting if you enjoy Australian maritime history and exploration.
The tour guides and staff were incredibly friendly and charming. Their explanations were detailed and thoughtful, giving us a wonderful insight into Tasmania’s history. They also recommended nearby attractions. Highly recommended! ❤️
Great little museum with authentic exhibits and lots of history about the of Matthew Flinders. It's a must-see in Georgetown. Staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Allow two hours.
This is a real gem. We were greeted by volunteer Margie who told us a huge amount about the exhibits. Everything is well presented, and well laid out with a logical progression through the museum. Lots of interesting pieces to view and learn about. The volunteers were really enthusiastic and make it a joy to visit this museum.
Excellent small collection of ship memorabilia from very early days of European discovery. Guide was friendly and was able to answer or theorise on my questions. Museum is well laid out with plenty of signs to highlight events from the day. Trim the cat seemed happy on the ship 🚢 😀
Very interesting place indeed even if you know very little about boats like me, and how does one get very large boats into a building I ask, Why we take the roof off of course, well worth a visit and a chat, you might just learn something new, I did
