Australia’s southernmost accessible point! From here, you’re closer to Antarctica than you are to Cape York. Mostly flat, peaceful walk, starting from Cockle Creek & ending at the lookout at South Cape Bay. Here in summer there are lots of biting flies so be prepared. This spot felt like another world - beautiful. Stairs lead down to the beach. 📍 South Cape Bay ⏰ 4hr return + time spent at lookout 🥾 17km return - grade 3 🏃🏻‍♀️ 21,000 steps
Great walk of 4-5 hours return from trailhead at Cockle Creek, Recherche. Depending on weather, the track can be quite muddy and parts of the wetlands boardwalk could be covered in water. The flora changes from bushland to open wetlands to coastal scrub and dunes ... and then rocky headlands. The coastline is fabulous. If you follow the headland around to the west, you can get down to the beach via a long, steep, staircase at South Cape Bay. Take a minute to relax and dip your feet in the southern ocean. Spectacular views.
Relatively easy walk and, as others have said, lovely, peaceful scenery. BUT. .....as you're so busy watching where you're stepping, you must stop every once in a while, to take in, and appreciate, your wonderful surroundings. And keep your ears open for rustlings in the bush. You just might be lucky enough to spot a Lyrebird as we were.
Easy, mostly flat 18km return walk. Can be very muddy when there has been rain. Suggest good hiking boots or regular walking boots. Unless you want to change the colour of your sneakers. Road in was very slippery with lots of pot holes. Wasn’t expecting to see a tiger snake out in cold weather, so be cautious. Beautiful pebble stones beaches and spectacular views of the southern edge of Tassie!
It is the best spot to experience the power of our creator. You can enjoy the waves all day long.
Easy 16km round trip hike to South Cape Bay
(Translated by Google) Beautiful place. A long walk (4 hours) with roughly the same landscapes (Original) Belle endroit. Une longue balade (4h) avec a peu près les mêmes paysages
