Tickets are 20 EUR, but honestly, it’s worth it, the palace is stunning, with beautifully preserved halls, mosaics and a real sense of history. The inner courtyard is impressive, and walking through the massive stone corridors feels like stepping back in time. Try to visit early in the day to avoid crowds and the heat. It’s one of the must-see landmarks in Rhodes Old Town.
This place is so neat! Tickets are 20Euro or about $23 USD. Get there as early as you can, it gets crowded fast. Amazing restored rooms and furniture and so much to learn and see. It is an impressive building and beautifully decorated. There is a wonderful museum at the end to view as well.
Not just a medieval palace, a real voyage in time. We visited the Palace of the Grand Master on a Sunday morning and it seems like we got there before the crowds. We had plenty of time to visit every room and also the opportunity to snap a lot of pictures without too many people around. First things first, the Palace is in pristine condition. I was expecting a nice place but this visit totally blew our minds. It's big, and I mean BIG. Lots of history, stunning architecture, and even more. There are a few places you visit where you feel like words aren't enough to describe, this is one of them. It seems like every room we visited brought a new dimension to the history of the place and wowed us with mosaics, furniture, views or just absolute grandeur. We were lucky enough to visit during a museum day so we got the chance to visit for free, but to be honest, it's totally worth the regular price ice of admission. Take the time to stop by the windows and take a look outside, views are amazing at almost all of them.
A magical place full of history and beauty! I absolutely loved the stunning architecture of the Palace of the Grand Master — as soon as I walked in, it felt like stepping into a Disney movie! Every artifact inside the museum is so well preserved, and the royal rooms are simply beautiful. The atmosphere takes you back in time, letting you imagine the life of the knights who once lived here. The ticket was €20, but it was totally worth it. A must-visit when in Rhodes!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this beautiful palace. It is huge and absolutely stunning and gives a real insight into the Rhodes of yesteryear. We found it fascinating, the architecture, statues, rooms, mosaic floors are awe inspiring and the audiovisual elements really brought it to life. Stop off for a coffee at the lovely coffee shop within the courtyard and enjoyed a lovely coffee. If you are visiting Rhodes this is a must see!
Fantastic - really worth a visit. The architecture of the Palace is wonderful. All of the artifacts inside the museum are well preserved, and the various rooms are terrific to see. It was not overly busy when we went and the tickets were ~€20, but worth it.

I went on the castle walls and honestly for 5 euro it was a lot of fun! It's a nice walk and you get a nice view of the town. I will say that there are no benches or shade so it can be intense in the heat so ensure you have water.

This was the absolute best place I've ever stayed at. We were a party of 8 and spent three nights in Rhodes. The island is really amazing, but it was the villa that made our time there truly special. We were not missing anything! Every small thing a guest could need was available in the villa. Superb location and such a special atmosphere in the dining room. Love. This. Place.
Beautiful place, respectful and kind servise, central location in the town. 10/10 experience.
The perfect stay in the center of rhodes. Close to everything and with an amazing view. Clean and perfect service!!!
Lovely privste courtyard. Quirky rooms. Very clean on arrival. Very close to restaurants and bars.

An enormous collection housed in a beautiful structure, the Museum is a must see! A carefully curated history of Rhodes in antiquity, there are hundreds of artefacts to admire. Allow plenty of time but be aware some galleries do not permit photography! Other exhibitions are not open on a Tuesday. There are some idyllic little gardens to admire too along the way, and the structure itself is beautiful. Highly recommended, just allow plenty of time!
In my opinion, this is the most interesting tourist attraction inside the Rhodes citadel. What makes this museum stand out compared to others of its kind is that it is housed in the former hospital of the Knights Hospitaller, giving it an architecture and atmosphere completely different from a typical museum. Positive points: The entire complex is like an oasis of peace in the heart of the citadel — although you’re only 10–15 meters away from the hustle and bustle of the old town’s streets, you feel as if you have the place all to yourself. The impressive architecture. The garden, where you can sit for hours and relax (especially pleasant in the evening). Unique views of the surrounding streets (such as the famous Street of the Knights). Well-organized collections that illustrate the three major civilizations that shaped the island: Greek, Venetian, and Ottoman. Negative points: The museum’s various sections don’t share the same closing/opening hours. Some close much earlier than the times displayed at the entrance. (For example, we visited twice but never managed to see the harem.) To fully enjoy the museum, it’s best to arrive in the morning or, at the latest, around lunchtime. Little information available or, in some cases, no information at all. Bonus point: For just a few euros more, you can purchase a combined ticket that grants access to several attractions: the Archaeological Museum, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the Church of Our Lady of the Castle (the last two are more suited for true history enthusiasts, or for tourists with plenty of time on their hands.)
An absolutely gorgeous museum. You get to feel the aura and the vibe of the old town without the crowds. We had the entire place to ourself and it was magical. The old hospital was gorgeous and the artifacts were very well preserved. A truly magical place.
I really liked it, but here is something nobody is telling you about: some exhibitions are opened in certain hours&days only. I literally came for the prehistoric period and didn't get to see it as I was 30 minutes late for it. Thursday, Tuesdays and Saturdays only, 9 to 16:50. Rather visit in these times to be able to fully enjoy the otherwise great museum with rich exhibition.
Much to our surprise and dismay this archaeological museum was not an amazing experience. I had expected a well organized museum. Instead we had a sprawling museum with small galleries spread across very large building with many rooms and not very much signage. Very disappointing experience:
The museum is so beautiful with the garden and areas to sit and enjoy the sun. The statues are so incredible to see in person especially the tumbled one that was found in the ocean. I highly recommend i was in a rush to to a booking but I was there for 2 hours and didn't even realise! I went late September around 5pm and there was like no one there it was great!
An absolute must visit I'm so serious. you enter somewhere rather empty and once you step into the real museum section it's like it comes to life, there's SO much theres literally corners just filled with pillars and such because I can only assume they have so many that they don't know what to do with them?? 😭 History from all throughout the ages in a building that reflects that, it's honestly all just beautiful I was awestruck. I could've been there all day I think. €10 for adults and free for under 18s (maybe 21??) and moree than worth the price. Genuinely really miss it, wish I was there now. Quick warning however!! There are some rather uneven stairs with no handrails so if this is something you might struggle with I wouldn't say not to visit but I'd definitely say to be prepared for it. Not to call him out but my grandad stumbled on them and definitely could've hurt himself rather badly, we were lucky he was alright. Could happen to anyone, take care with those stairs
One of the best archeological museums in the world. It’s in the old hospital of the knights of St. John and the building itself is a hidden gem. There are so many rooms, beautiful gardens and pieces from ancient times on Rhodes, the medieval times and even the Ottoman period. Highlights for me where: the mosaic floors exhibit in a beautiful gardens, an old Ottoman house inside the building and the other great remains of ancient Rhodes. You have to go here.

What a lovely hotel, first and most important is the amazing service. Everyone is so kind and helpful, one cannot ask for better. The rooms are comfortable and well looked after. The location is perfect, only thing is it can be a bit noisy at night from the club across the road but after the first night it didnt bother us. Thanks so much for being such great hosts!
Great new and super clean hotel, the staff is fantastic and welcoming and everyone that works the breakfast shift are just so welcoming. Only downside is that at times if your room is facing the front of the hotel the beach bar/club is noisy. They tend to shut down the music at 1 am onwards so choose different rooms if you want a more quiet experience.
More Meni City Beach Rhodes is a fine hotel. Our first and second choice hotels along this stretch of the east side of Elli Beach were fully booked for middle of September 2025. The location is great; comfortable walking distance to the old town; and the stretch of the sea in front of it appears a lot more protected than other parts which was choppy. The sea water was calm and clear with many small fishes which make for a pleasant swim. The room rate was much higher than what we expected. The staff were friendly and helpful. The loud music at night did not bother us too much as the room assigned to us did not face the beach club and bar. Date of Posting : 25 Sep 2025
Great experience as it was our first time in Rhodes and will keep this place in mind if we every return. The staff were fantastic especially Elenor (apologies if incorrect spelling). She went above and beyond for us whether it was giving us tips for local bars and restaurants, best breakfast items and asking if we needed anything. Its the little things like this to made our stay more special so thank you. They had a great rooftop bar are that had a great view of the Sea. I was surprised this bar wasn't utilised much by the other guests as there's not.many rooftop bars in Rhodea town with that view Overall, we would recommend the hotel and glad we choose here. Thank you to all the staff at CC
The hotel was fantastic, within walking distance to the beaches, bars, restaurants, and the Old City. We loved the food and drinks at the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially Despina and Spiros, whom we thank greatly. We will definitely choose this hotel for our next visit.
I was a little concerned that this would be a noisy hotel being based near the beach clubs. So I requested a quiet room which was at the back of the hotel and this was fine... I hardly noticed the beach clubs and had a very peaceful sleep. TBH this is rhodes so evenings are always full of entertainment and I've stayed in noisier "quiet" retreats. Rooms have great furnishing, loads of space and the air con is perfect. I thought they were fantastic and very clean. Breakfast is a la carte and cooked very well. A special mention about all of the staff. I dont think I've stayed in a friendlier hotel with every staff member being happy to help or say hello. It wasn't a case of asking for breakfast items.... more a case of declining as I was so full! All at breakfast were great! The roof top bar is great for some views and an evening drink. It's a city hotel so the pool is really a cool down pool rather than something you can swim in but you can chill out around it. So the bonus of being near the beach bars is.... you're near the beach bars! And it's located in a great spot for exploring the old and new town too. There are so many restaurants in a short stroll that we only ate once in the old town. Our 6 night stay flew by. Thanks for a great stay
This is absolutely my favorite hotel in the WORLD! The staff is outstanding! The rooms themselves are very spacious and the particular room we stayed in had a double sink and a very beautiful shower/bathroom area. Accommodations: - Delicious breakfast made to order every morning that includes almost anything and everything you could think of! Pancakes, Omelettes, Oatmeal, Yogurt, eggs, bacon, etc! - Outstanding rooftop pool and bar area that overlooks the beaches of Rhodes - You can order drinks and food at the rooftop pool or sit and lounge by the bar area - The most accommodating, helpful, and kind hotel staff I've ever met - They include a mini shaving cream, razor, q tips, and other small travel necessities you may need in your hotel room - They also have a paid laundry service where they send out your laundry and you get it within (roughly) two days (we did this and it was so nice to have clean + fresh clothes on vacation - def worth the money!)
First the positive: The hotel is modern and furnished with love. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast is a la carte and freshly prepared. There is a fixed selection of sweet and savory dishes and every day an additional choice. The rooftop terrace won us over the most, in September there was not so much going on so we had this to ourselves on some days. However, the pool is very low (90cm), if that bothers anyone, for us it was fine. You can park for free in front of the hotel, we always found a parking space. The location is very central and you can be in Rhodes town in a few minutes walk. The hotel is located in the second row on Elli beach. This is a bit confusing, because the pictures that some providers show on the Internet convey a direct beach location. However, this is a beach bar that does not belong to the hotel. The sun beds also belong to this beach bar and are relatively expensive (20-30 euros). The hotel itself therefore has no direct view of the beach and also no beach chairs. Another point is the already often mentioned beach bar across the street, which sometimes has loud music on until 3 o'clock in the morning. We had initially also thought that some vacationers exaggerate here, but we were convinced of the opposite. Who is really looking for peace and quiet, is definitely wrong here. The view of the tennis court is also not very nice. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay very much, but felt that the price paid was clearly too high for the hotel category.

We did a walking tour with George today... His passion and knowledge for Rhodes was amazing!! He truly loves what he is doing and enjoys sharing his knowledge with everyone. Learning about the ancient city, modern City , and transitions between empires, was fascinating. His explanations were great, detailed and informative. Already planning another longer trip to the island, because he made it so interesting and we know there is so much more to explore... Thanks for making the day so special.
We booked our tour to Symi Island from Rhodes through this company on Viator. Communication was clear and responsive throughout the process, and the price was competitive. We had a stop at St George's Bay and it was very nice.
We had a fantastic experience with Half Price Tour. The boat trip went very smoothly and was absolutely beautiful. The swim stop was amazing, and the excursion itself was full of stunning views. It was a very hot day, but the whole trip was comfortable and well-organized. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive. They even sent us a message beforehand to confirm the meeting point and make sure we had all the information we needed, which was very helpful. Everything was handled with care and attention, and you can tell they really want their guests to enjoy the experience. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend Half Price Tour to anyone looking for a memorable boat trip.
Very nice travel agency, the boat left perfectly on time. On board there are toilets and possibility to buy drinks and snack's. The swim in St George Bay is very nice and to see Symi for 3 hours is more then enough. Staff if very nice and the price is also very good.
We took the sailing yacht trip and had a wonderful time. Booking was easy (book direct with Half Price Tours and save big!) and communication was superb. Pick up was arranged and the day before we got a message saying that due to weather predictions they would be sailing about 90 minutes later when the conditions were expected to improve. They were right! The boat was great and skipper Georgia and first mate(?) George (who was also our pickup driver) were friendly and knowledgeable. Three swimming / snorkelling stops were perfect and lunch was excellent. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat. Thank you!
The experience was amazing from start to finish. Staff was lovely, boat was clean, had drinks available to buy, etc. Timing wise, everything was punctual, the stop at St George's bay and symi!! PLENTY of time to enjoy. HIGHLY RECCOMEND. What an unforgettable, beautiful experience. Do not miss out!
Our guided tour could not have been better. An informatal, friendly guide took us on a historical tour of Rhode's old town spanning the centuries. Thoroughly recommended. Alexis was a fabulous ambassador for Rhodes and even treated us to a Greek pastry.
Very good value for mone! , friendly staff, on time, Lovely lady behind the bar of the boat where you can buy some drinks and snacks, the swim stop gives you enough time to fully enjoy the experience and symi Island is just Lovely. We had a 15 min walk to the nearest little beach, had a beautiful lunch at utopia and went for a great swim afterwards. Beautiful day , very well spent. I recommend!

Cobbled medieval street with 7 inns, representing the Knights of St. John's countries of origin.
Slide 1 of 8
Walking down the Street of the Knights (Οδός Ιπποτών) in Rhodes is like stepping into a living manuscript of medieval Europe. Perfectly preserved and hauntingly beautiful, this cobbled thoroughfare—once the ceremonial heart of the Knights Hospitaller—remains one of the most evocative streets in all of Europe. Lined with austere yet majestic stone façades, each auberge tells a silent tale of the Order’s different Langues, or tongues—representing the various nations of the knights. The architecture is sober, noble, and powerful, just like the ideals the knights professed to defend. As you ascend slowly toward the Palace of the Grand Master, each step seems to echo with history. There are no neon signs here, no tourist traps cluttering the view—just the hush of centuries under your feet and above your head. The street rewards those who walk it slowly, who look up, and who listen carefully. To visit Rhodes without walking this street would be to visit Venice and miss the canals, or Cairo and skip the pyramids. It’s not just a place—it’s an experience of time carved in stone.
Excellent. A bucket list visit for me, with a really good explanatory series of plaques in an alley to your left about halfway up. Provides a lot of helpful context. Interestingly, a poster in the palace's museum even suggests that the 'langues' were a precursor to the EU. A bit of a stretch to my mind; but there's no doubting the multicultural nature of the separate inns, when viewed as a whole community. Visit early for the best views!
Iconic street in Rhodes Old Town. Access from gate on side of harbour/bus station area. It leads up to the palace and a nice stroll along the walls in the shade of trees. Good photo opportunity.
The Street of the Knights (Ippoton Street) in Rhodes is an absolute must-see and one of the most fascinating places on the island. Walking along this perfectly preserved medieval street feels like stepping straight into history. Every stone and archway tells a story of the Knights of St. John, who once ruled the island and left behind an incredible architectural legacy. The atmosphere is magical — narrow cobblestone paths, beautifully restored buildings, and the quiet charm of a bygone era make it one of the most picturesque spots in the Old Town. You’ll find small museums, charming courtyards, and little artisan shops hidden behind ancient walls. It’s especially stunning in the early morning or evening when the crowds thin out and the golden light hits the stone façades. Whether you’re a history lover, photographer, or simply someone who enjoys wandering through beautiful streets, the Street of the Knights is a must-visit highlight that captures the true soul of medieval Rhodes.
Walking down the Street of the Knights is like stepping into a living medieval painting. This remarkably well-preserved cobblestone street runs from the Palace of the Grand Master to the Hospital of the Knights and was the ceremonial heart of the Knights Hospitaller during their rule over Rhodes from 1309 to 1522. Each building along the street once housed a "Langue"—a national division of the Order—representing different regions like France, Italy, Spain, and Germany. The facades display coats of arms and Gothic details that reflect the cultural identity of each group. Despite centuries of history, the street has retained its authentic medieval character, thanks to careful restoration by Italian architects in the early 20th century. There’s a rare stillness here, even when the Old Town is bustling. The narrow passage, lined with tall stone buildings and arched doorways, feels timeless. Imagine knights in armor passing by on horseback, flags fluttering above, and the air filled with a sense of solemn duty and tradition. Today, some of the buildings are used as government offices or museums, while others remain closed to preserve their historical integrity. It’s best visited early in the morning or late in the afternoon for a quiet stroll—and incredible photos without the crowds. A must-see for anyone visiting Rhodes.
This was very good to see. After visiting the Palace you should walk down this street. The stone buildings on either side were meeting rooms for the knights from various countries.
Very Historical Street, if you are interested in the Knights of Rhodes and the Knights Hosptaller, this is a great place to visit. At the top of the street is the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, also a must visit place.
Stunning and HOT. Cats were thirsty, so I found a plastic tub that was obviously used for them and filled it from an ancient faucet at the side of the building. Then more cats arrived haha. A beautiful and enchanting place.

Step Back in Time – Exploring the Acropolis of Rhodes and Surrounding Ancient Wonders Visiting the Acropolis of Rhodes is like walking through a portal into ancient history. Perched on Monte Smith hill and surrounded by greenery, the site is a treasure trove of remarkable ruins, each whispering stories from over 2,300 years ago. Start your journey with the Olympic Stadium, beautifully preserved and still echoing the spirit of ancient athleticism. You can almost picture the competitions that once took place here. Just a short walk away, you’ll find the small but impressive Odeon, a Roman-era theater that once hosted music and poetry performances – it’s a peaceful spot that brings the grandeur of the past to life. The crown jewel, of course, is the Temple of Apollo, with its tall columns standing proudly against the sky. Though partially restored, the site still evokes the sacred atmosphere of classical worship. As you explore further, you’ll come across scattered ruins, columns, and steps that once formed temples, sanctuaries, and public spaces — all part of the ancient city’s rich tapestry. Besides the historical significance, the views from the hilltop are absolutely stunning. Overlooking the sea and the modern town of Rhodes, it’s a perfect mix of natural beauty and cultural depth. Don’t be surprised if you lose track of time — there’s something new to admire around every corner. A few tips: • Wear comfortable sneakers – the paths are uneven, and you’ll be doing a fair bit of walking. • Bring plenty of water, especially in summer – shade is limited, and the sun can be intense. • A camera is a must – both for the ruins and the sweeping panoramic views. In short: This area is a must-see for history lovers, architecture buffs, or anyone who wants to experience the soul of ancient Greece. It’s not just a sightseeing spot — it’s an experience that transports you centuries into the past. Don’t miss it while you’re in Rhodes!
Very nice acropolis on top of the hill. You can walk from the center of the town or take a bus. There’s a café at the entrance with lots of seating and parking. You can park there. The entire site is comprised of the stadium, the amphitheater, ruins of the Apollon temple, and the Artemis (though only the foundations remain for that one). On Sunday, the site visit was free of charge otherwise it was €10 per person for adults. You can stroll around and look at this marvelous site. I suggest some good footwear because the paths around the site are sometimes rough.
Not the flashiest of ancient ruins, but the stadium and Odeon are well preserved and the placards tell the story of an ancient academy that can be easily seen from the ruins outliyon the grounds. There isn't much left of the Temple of Apollo or the Temple of Artemis because they were heavily bombed in WW 2 but there are some ruins and good explanatory displays. If you have more than a day in Rhodes it's worth the visit. It's free, quiet and has great views. A peaceful respite compared to the huge crowds of the Old Town.
This was such an interesting visit, still lots of work to do but amazing to see remains of the temple, arena and theatre. The size is just mind blowing and if these stones could talk….. Thoroughly recommend, it is definitely worth a visit. There are toilets within the wall on the left on the way down from the temple. Great little cafe, Acropolis cafe, at the bottom with tasty cake and reasonable prices, coffee lovely. Currently no charge to visit the Acropolis so why not? I hope they continue developing this site as it would be absolutely amazing. Has more to see than Acropolis at Lindos in my humble opinion!
Very good, picturesque walk to and from the acropolis. If you’re staying in Rhodes town definitely do go, it’s worth seeing some ancient history and reading about what it signified. We went on a Saturday morning and didn’t pay for any tickets which was a bonus. They also have a little gallery with the history of the excavations and there are toilets nearby.
Asides from the fact that it was on renovation when I visited, safe to say it’s okay to take 30 mins of your time to visit the monument. You not only see the Acropolis but the stadium right behind it. Parking is free, less crowded, entrance is free as well.
Awesome place to visit! Shame about the scaffolding but still an awe inspiring area to wander around. Me and my son even got to explore in some tunnels! Its free the cafe there is good with great food on offer. Well worth it imo 🙌🏻
The Acropolis stands on the hill of Monte Smith, and includes temples, public buildings, and a stadium. It's a vast open area, without fortifications that you can roam around for free, as there is no entrance fee. From the top of the Acropolis, you can see a great panoramic view of the city and the Aegean Sea. There are a few informative panels in English with the history of each building, and there's a cafe at the entrance. It's quite an empty place and pretty far away from the city center, but if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place. It may take up to an hour to visit everything by foot.

Seriously a little hidden gem! €5 to climb and a free drink!! Kids are free. We had a so much fun climbing the little tower, even with young kids it wasn’t too overwhelming. The view was breathtaking and the drink was relaxing! Very good experience in old town!!
€5 Euro each to enter (Adult). Free drink at the bar. Perfect views across roads old town if you manage to get up there for sunset. We hit it lucky and just came across the clock tower at the right time!
A tourist attraction you shouldn’t miss! The Clock Tower is just a few steps away from one of the busiest streets in the medieval city of Rhodes, so getting there is quick and easy. The entrance ticket is very affordable, and it even comes with a free drink that you can enjoy on the terrace after your visit. You can pick a soft drink or something alcoholic. We went for the alcoholic option — let’s just say it wasn’t amazing, but at that price, who’s complaining? The real highlight is the view: absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. Even if you don’t make it all the way to the top, you can still admire the impressive city walls, including the Bastion of St. George and the Spanish Bastion. And don’t forget to wander around the little streets near the tower, they’re incredibly picturesque and full of charm. A couple of things to keep in mind: Sunset is the best time to visit, but also the busiest, so expect crowds. To reach the top, you’ll need to climb narrow, winding wooden stairs. If you have issues with vertigo, high blood pressure, or simply don’t like heights, you might want to stick to the terrace or the first floor.
The tower is not very high, but you still get a spectacular view on old town Rhodes and the climb is really short and easy. Ticket is 5 euros and includes a drink of your choice (coffee, soft drinks, wine or beer) at the bar on site - a perfect place to take a short break in the shade. There's also a WC at the bar.
Neat thing to do and enjoy a local beer. 83 steps to the top. Good views. Good beer. Nice restrooms. 5 euros a person and includes a drink.
The clock tower was worth every cent. The view over the old town of Rhodes is amazing. With the ticket for only 5 euros, you also get a free drink at the bar. All in all, we would definitely come back.
5€ + drink to go up a clock tower! I am amazed! Considered coming again after dark. Great view towards the mosque and the city. Very kind people. Watch your head while climbing up the stairs. A good way to spend some time.
5 Euros to enter and you get a free drink in the bar on the way out.great views .

The synagogue in the old city of Rhodes The synagogue is also a museum of Judaism in Rhodes. Entrance to the synagogue and museum costs 4 euros. The entrance is in a side alley until you reach it you don't see the place, so enter and walk until you reach it. The synagogue is in excellent condition. The Ark of the Covenant, bulbs and seats are in excellent condition, so you can get a full impression of the Judaism that was there. A well-kept patio and a small museum that describes the history of the Jews in Rhodes.
Great descriptions of the Rhodes Jewish community over the centuries. Pictures, artifacts and videos tell important stories of persistence.
Fantastic information on the deportation of the Jews to the concentrations camps. A son of one of the holocaust survivors was happy to sit down with us for some time and tell us his mother’s story and showing us the documents. It’s a shame the Sephardic Jews didn’t come back but completely understandable that they didn’t. It is lovely that there was the one man who had ties to Rhodes but apart from that there is no one with links to Judaism from Rhodes.
First time in a Synagogue and it was really informative about the history of the Jewish people in Rhodes town, lovely museum
the Kahal Shalom Synagogue, a site of immense historical and cultural importance located in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Rhodes. Built in 1577, this is the oldest synagogue in Greece and one of the oldest in Europe, serving as a living testament to the once-thriving Sephardic Jewish community of Rhodes. **Architectural Features** The synagogue's design is a blend of Sephardic and Ottoman influences, evident in its unique layout and ornamentation. The structure houses a central bimah (podium) and is adorned with beautiful stone arches. The wooden Ehal, or Torah ark, is a significant feature, intricately crafted and adorned. **Historical Context** Rhodes had a vibrant Jewish community for centuries, and the Kahal Shalom Synagogue was at its spiritual and communal heart. However, the community was decimated during World War II, when the majority were deported to Auschwitz. The synagogue thus stands as a monument not just to religious practice, but also to memory and resilience. **Museum and Memorial** Adjoining the synagogue is a small but impactful Jewish Museum, displaying a collection of photographs, ritual objects, and artifacts that trace the history and customs of the Jewish community in Rhodes. There's also a poignant Holocaust memorial within the synagogue's courtyard, honoring those who were lost. **Cultural Importance** Today, the synagogue is no longer a regularly functioning house of worship due to the small size of the current Jewish community. However, it is often opened for special ceremonies, cultural events, and educational tours. **Visitor Information** The site is open to visitors, and there's a modest admission fee that goes toward maintenance and educational efforts. Photography is usually permitted, but it's always good to check the latest visitor guidelines. Spending an hour or so here will give you ample time to explore the synagogue and the adjoining museum. **Nearby Attractions** The Kahal Shalom Synagogue is within walking distance of other significant landmarks in the Old City, including the Grand Master’s Palace, making it an integral part of any historical tour of Rhodes. I hope this tour stop enriches your understanding of the diverse cultural tapestry of Rhodes and the Sephardic Jewish legacy that is so poignantly encapsulated here. Thank you for your visit, and please take your time to absorb the depth of history that this site offers.
Immersive, moving place to visit. Made very welcome. Quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Museum very well presented with lots of information about historical 'story arc' about the Jewish Community on Rhodes and their kaleidoscopic fates. Very challenging and moving information and artifacts about how dreadfully the individuals, families and community have suffered at the hands of 'conquerors' over the centuries. But, also tales of good people doing good things to effect good outcomes. Well worth a visit, well worth supporting.
I went here specifically to read the names of the deported Jews during the Holocaust. A difficult task emotionally each person deserves to be remembered. The shocking difference between visiting a war cemetery and a Holocaust memorial is you seldom see family names repeated on headstones whereas a Holocaust memorial is entirely family names. Entire families men, women and children wiped from existence. If anything take the time to read one family of names. Time well spent, never forget!
I've never met such hostility and suspicion upon wanting to give buisness to a place of worship The Golem in the entrance wanted to search me I obliged and for some reason he found my eagerness to cooperate suspicious Suffice to say i took my business elsewhere and saved myself 6€

Nice spot, first built before hellenistic era, now partialy reconstructed. Apollo was the god of light and justice, do not be confused with Helios, god of sun, the creator of Rhodes island, as a result of his love with Rhode nymphaea. Free entrance.
As you can see from other reviewes’s photos, there is not much left of the temple to be seen. It is still under reconstruction as of 2020. However, if you walk across the street from the temple, you will reach the cliff with one of the most breath taking view of the island. It was so spectacular we went back three times. It is quite far away from most tourist hot spots so you can take the time to enjoy the view all to yourselves.
The temple ia located on the acropolis hill of Monte Smith. It's a Doric-style temple, and the top-most site in the whole acropolis. It was excavated by the Italian School of Archaeology at Athens from 1912 to 1945, revealing its remaining columns and drums, but unfortunately it's in restauration. Nothing but scaffolds and blocked path to it today.
This is a large park with some restored ancient ruins. The restoration is still in progress so there are scafolding and fences put up. There is a small exposition explaining the area and its significance, nbut its location is not obvious while exploring the park. There is also a restored ancient theatre and stadium.
over priced cafe with not a lot to see and even less information on the site .
Want to feel ancient vibes? Then go there! Unfortunately or fortunately it was under construction.
Few things remain.. But still worth a visit
At the time of the visit, the monument is in scaffolding. Nothing much was visible, but I believe the place will become nicer. When I was here 11 years ago the place was in even worse shape.

Amazing hotel. The breakfast is very satisfied with enough options. Clean and comfortable. The rooms are big and quiet. The beach is nearby and have a great access. Location is the best in the island. Parking is free Had the best time
Quite good. The Staff and Service is very good; the rooms are clean, big and quiet. The beach is nearby. Location is very good for walking into the old township.
Rhodes Casino is an exciting and stylish place to spend an evening. The building itself is beautiful and full of history, adding a touch of old-world charm to the experience. Inside, the atmosphere is lively and well-organized, with a good variety of table games and slot machines to suit every taste. The staff is professional, friendly, and always ready to help, making both newcomers and regulars feel welcome. Whether you’re there to play, enjoy a drink, or just take in the unique ambiance, Rhodes Casino offers a fun and memorable night out.
Been twice. Once at 12 am couldn’t get a seat at black jack table which wasn’t great. 2nd time went at 6pm plenty of seats, dealers are good but no comp alcoholic drinks ( hot drinks free). Outdoor bar is lovely and bar staff very friendly
Very nice casino, lively atmosphere, some drinks are not free but not very expensive. The lottery is fun
Entrance and registration is welcoming. Not a huge place but there are plenty of slot machines (some are newer but many of them are rather old games). Given card is only for identification, you need to insert cash to the machines and need to cash out (to a printed receipt) when you want to play on an another machine. We played with a small amount just for fun and did not have a bad experience. As a non-smoker, I appreciate the non-smoking rule personally. Only simple drinks are free but the alcohol drinks and food are to be paid. These might not suit the likes of regulars of casinos in Cyprus or some other places. I cannot comment about the loss or win chance about certain games. Of course house always wins at the end 😅
Contrary to other reviews and maybe changes have been implemented but it does not smell of smoke, in fact we never saw anyone smoking. The staff are very pleasant and courteous. We had complimentary coffee and soft drinks served to us. Toilets are clean and there is an abundance of hand gel everywhere. Masks are required even when sitting. If you have never been before you'll need to become a member so take your passport with you or photo id. Entry is free. Benefits also mean with your membership card will can use the free carpark. Table games are upstairs but minimums are high. Downstairs there is lots of slots and start at 1 cent. We enjoyed our visits and apart from it looking a little tired in places our experience was good.
Mostly clientele from north-west Europe and in places like this tone is set for the games based on clients. The place is set in a very nice historical building, we also stayed in hotel which is very nice and more professionally managed compared to other places. Varities of games and facilities of course as not competitive as Cyprus but separated on physical games and slots distinction. Very possible to win with just and lawful games, so a bit makes sense why coctail drinks are not free. Overall nice experince to spend some time and bucks with friends / family. The staff was nice and responsive, had no issue - we had thorough and welcoming explanations at every step. Totally recommend to spend some time. The payout and cash-in is based on a personal card (which you can use if you visit Rhodes later time again) which might be frustrating at first but helps you manage your cash. (P.s. Turkish ID card is very much valid to make first time membership and explained in detail from the start, don't mind the other comments)

Now a lighthouse, this bastion was built in the 15th century to guard the harbor entrance.
Slide 1 of 8
This fortress of incalculable strategic value was heavily targeted and battered during the siege of 1522. It endured nonetheless due to the bravery of its defenders and its sturdy design. Though only a part of the massive defensive network of medieval Rhodes, it is an impressive fortress in itself. Works in progress disallow entrance for the time being, but the walk to it along the pier is easy and pleasant.
15th-century knightly fortress at Mandraki harbor, later turned into a lighthouse. The iconic «Saint Nicholas Lighthouse», is a stunning sight, whether bathed in sunlight or glowing under the night sky ✨ Perfect for festive celebrations or quiet everyday strolls, it’s a landmark that adapts to every moment. Located at the entrance of the harbour in Rhodes, right beside the famous deer statues, this lighthouse is a true symbol of the island.
We arrived by Ferry and straight away could feel that we were going to enjoy Rhodes. One of our first sights was the 5th-century fortress at Mandraki harbor (later a lighthouse). It was a stunning sight, both during the day or at night.
We were not able to enter but it was still interesting to walk partly around it and it was great for taking pictures.
Saint Nicholas Fortress is an experience in itself—stunning sea views, salty breezes, and a front-row seat to the island’s rich history. The fortress stands proudly at the edge of the harbor like a guardian of time, and getting there by foot along the marina just makes it all the more magical.
A stronghold on the northern side of the pier. Back in 15th century, it used to be a strategic point in the military port Mandraki, built by by the Grand Master of the Order of St. John Zacosta. Unfortunately, the gates were locked and it didn't seem to be open to visitors, but it still looks stunning even from the outside.
Looking very impressive on the outside, however it's not possible to get inside of those fortress walls. But still very interesting spot to stop by while taking a walk along the harbor side of the Rhodes.
Guarding the entrance to the old Port, it's a witness of the importance it held during Rhodes's medieval history. Supposedly, supposedly, the Colossus stood nearby or even on its site

Great to visit here and see where the Colossus once stood. Plenty of nice yachts to see also!
In honesty, it disappointed us this time as we couldn't get in nor find explanation of the Colossus. Looks great from the outside right by the sea, but all that walk under the sun was exhausting and at the end there wasn't much to see.
Rhodes (city) is great and the island itself is quite large. Today we explored the ‘Old City’ which is a completely enclosed by walls that are ~600 years old. First stop, the port area where the “Colossus of Rhodes” reputably once stood astride the harbour entrance. A myth or true - who knows?
Colossus of Rhodes – Still Standing in Spirit Though no longer visible in bronze and stone, the Colossus of Rhodes remains one of the most stirring symbols of human vision and resilience. Once straddling the ancient harbour like a titan born of sun and sea, it stood not only as a monument to victory, but as a celebration of freedom, imagination, and the courage of a people who refused to be forgotten. Today, standing by the quiet piers of Mandraki Harbour where deer statues mark its possible feet, one can still feel the echo of greatness in the air. The light dances on the water as if reflecting his vanished form, and the whispers of ancient mariners seem to rise with the wind. It is a reminder that even when the physical disappears, the spirit of creation and defiance lives on. The Colossus may be gone—but like all true legends, he has simply become part of the sky.
The Colossus of Rhodes (Ancient Greek: ὁ Κολοσσὸς Ῥόδιος, romanized: ho Kolossòs Rhódios; Modern Greek: Κολοσσός της Ρόδου, romanized: Kolossós tis Ródou)[a] was a statue of the Greek sun god Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes, on the Greek island of the same name, by Chares of Lindos in 280 BC. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it was constructed to celebrate the successful defence of Rhodes city against an attack by Demetrius I of Macedon, who had besieged it for a year with a large army and navy. According to most contemporary descriptions, the Colossus stood approximately 70 cubits, or 33 metres (108 feet) high – approximately two-thirds of the height of the modern Statue of Liberty from feet to crown – making it the tallest statue in the ancient world. It collapsed during the earthquake of 226 BC, although parts of it were preserved. In accordance with the Oracle of Delphi, the Rhodians did not rebuild it.John Malalas wrote that Hadrian in his reign re-erected the Colossus, but he was mistaken. According to the Suda, the Rhodians were called Colossaeans (Κολοσσαεῖς), because they erected the statue on the island. In 653, an Arab force under Muslim general Mu'awiya I conquered Rhodes, and according to the Chronicle of Theophanes the Confessor, the statue was completely destroyed and the remains sold. THERE İS NO STATUE OVER HERE 😅😅😅
No evidence of colossus, but the space is beautiful nonetheless. There is a floating restaurant offering beautiful views.
Unfortunately a disapointment. We couldn`t get anywhere near the harbour because of work being done and having two very large cruise ships in each day didn`t help. On a good note - the old city within the walls was definately worth looking at. Its worth going into the castle and grounds. What isn`t so great is the costs of just about everything.
One of the possibile locations of the Colosus. Not confirmed. Closed. Lighthouse. Ok from the outside, but nothing special.

Such a stunning place. The structures are beautiful and feel taken care of. Everywhere you go, there is something even grander than the next. The streets are bustling with restaurants and shops. It is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Rhodes. We didn't go into any of the museums but I will make sure to do that if I ever visit Rhodes a third time.
I had an amazing time! It's so beautiful and the kitties are so cute. The only issue is that a lot of the shops are almost identical but I do enjoy the tacky tourist vibe. Make sure you look around at prices to get the best price for things like shot glasses, magnets and drinks like the beer boot. I went late September and it was most busy usually afternoon when the heat dies down a bit.
Absolutely beautiful city, situated on island and sounded by a old wall, it's so charming, fully packed with tourists, and full of shopping streets and restaurant, where you can find lots of good options. Little bit hot in the month of September as I visited today, old streets and monuments gives you very traditional vibe, at the same time you have so many luxury fashion shops make it true blend of traditional and modern blend.
A 'must visit'. Split into a Greek quarter, Jewish quarter and Turkish quarter. Busy during the day (cruise ships) and vibrant during the evening. Winding cobbled streets with shops and tavernas everywhere. Main streets can get very busy during the day but it's worth finding the quiet areas such as those 'top left' away from the harbour. Here you will still find gifts/crafts but more shade and a lot more peace & quiet. Well worth finding the Minos Roof Top Cafe/Bar for a fantastic view and some restbite! (See my review and photos.) During the evening the town is tastefully lit with uplighting and street lamps. Go off the beaten track and you will always find a quaint taverna or bar. It's simply beautiful and full of life. To navigate the town, start at the main square (through gate by commercial harbour/car park). The main shopping streets and side streets all lead up to the Islamic spire at the top of the town. Use this to get your bearings. The palace is then up and over to the right. The bus station is also easy to find and here you will also find an umbrella shop with all sorts of designs - well worth a look.
Suggest that the Medieval City of Rhodes should be on everyone’s list of places to visit. Absolutely beautiful and filled with history from the ancient Greeks right through WW II. The Italians received the Dodecanese Islands after the Great War, and many of the art deco buildings there were built by the Italians. The Palace of the Grand Master, the walls, and the harbor are stunningly beautiful.
Such a beautiful well maintained site of extremely significant historical buildings. You can literally feel the history and stories seeping out of the walls. Very highly recommended you visit and allow a couple of hours to truly immerse yourself.
One of the most stunning places i have visited. Absolutely loved it just a nice environment extremely clean and welcoming none of the usual annoying sales people they left you to do you own thing. I am already planning to go back.
Walking through the Medieval City of Rhodes feels like stepping into a different century. The stone streets, gates, towers, and fortress walls are stunning, there's history at every corner. It’s lively, full of shops, restaurants, and museums, but also easy to get lost in the narrow alleys. Try to come early or late to avoid crowds and heat. Some areas are packed with tourist traps, but the atmosphere and architecture make it worth exploring for hours.
