It has a beautiful crunch that wasn’t too thick in batter. From the moment we walked in, we were seated at a lovely cloth table with nice crockery and cutlery. Felt akin to dining in a French restaurant rather than a local restaurant. We were provided complimentary prawn crackers in a basket (freshly prepared) and a jug of chilled water. The beef noodle soup was really tasty, good portion size, and came out super quickly. But the service experience was quite frustrating. I had an issue with my card, so I offered to pay cash, only to be told they had no change. I had to go back into my bank app, sort things out, and eventually paid by card, which added a 15% surcharge. Then when I wanted to buy a drink, I was told I had to pay for it separately, meaning another surcharge! Why couldn’t they just combine it into one transaction? The ordering process is also confusing. Too many options (noodle types, sizes, etc.) and you have to order at the counter, even though the staff’s English wasn’t very clear. The food overall was bland as anything also before I encountered this. I understand Uber Eats may not be a priority but this is unacceptable, extremely disappointed. Edit: I’m disappointed with the owners response to be honest. This may be a real ingredient, but it was genuinely inedible and it made me pull it out of my mouth it was so chewy, having eaten a lot of Chinese food (including eating in China) I’ve certainly never tried anything like this before. Also this doesn’t take away the rest of the meal was extremely bland and at a low quality that wasn’t cheap! I may not have known what black fungus is, but the food was still terrible and the owners response was very petty. Judging by multiple other reviews on here, it seems as though I’m not the only one who has experienced issues with the food when ordering online. We started off with two soups (Hairy melon with lean pork 节瓜瑶柱炖瘦肉 and Coconut with clam meat 海底椰炖螺片) both tasted it warm and hearty, it reminds me of home. For main we had two claypot rice (Chicken and mushroom claypot rice and Preserved mustard cabbage and pork claypot rice) the rice had a nice rice crispy on the edges and the middle was soft and absorb all the sauces. The toppings were yummy too. I highly recommend to try their homemade chilli sauce, its packed with flavour and spice goes really well with the rice. For dessert we had a Sesame sweet soup (芝麻糊) this is a traditional Chinese dessert. It was authentic, had the right texture and perfect amount of sweet level to our taste. The decor of the restaurant did look a little old but don’t get fooled by that. The food were amazing here.
