At first they were very welcoming and our room looked nice and clean we entered and we had a lovely surprise of card with chocolates and bed of rose petals due to our anniversary but then we started to look around and noticed a few problems . The bathroom a bit small and as my husband is in the building trade he said something was definitely not right with our room . Our room 124 was very unlevel especially in the bathroom area you actually went into the bathroom and would be leaning to the left and i looked down and could see the floor had dropped and had cracks in the flooring and a big gap on one aide of the bathroom door which indicated unlevel floor and cracks in the floor some sort of structural problem. In the pool area also needed some attention in areas tiles missing and rusty areas in the side of pool area. Breakfast was lovely. The bar area was so picturesque but it wasnt the cleanest of areas especially behind the bar itself . The mirrors were filthy and smeary and the coffee machine was so dirty that I did not drink the coffee I ordered as when I saw the machine it put me off of drinking the coffee . Our view from our room was harbour side and could see the ferry crossing constantly which was nice to actually see. The balcony on our room was massive . We stayed for 2 nights Saturday until monday but no-one came on Sunday to refill milk or coffees or even checked our rooms so I went to go to reception but met victoria on the way who I could see worked there and she sorted us out immediately. The bar area was situated out to the harbour and sea . So lovely to sit and eat or drink and Look out to sea. This hotel what we could see was mainly for the older generation . The hotel itself is a lovely hotel but do have building issues for sure. A massive thankyou to victoria for getting us some more milk and water for our rooms and for amy at reception for how welcoming she was and Lewis for his help when we went to use the pool and spa no one was around not even at pool side so I called Lewis from the bar area to help us which he then called someone who was from pool area to help us when we got in the pool no one was around to keep an eye on anyone who was in the pool we stayed in the pool and used the spa area for about 45 minutes and in that time no one was in or around to keep an eye which I thought was very unusual as if anyone had a health issue no one would of been around to of saved them or to see to them. Overall the hotel is just ok but far from anything amenities .

When we first arrived the receptionist wasn't as welcoming and friendly as I thought she'd be. She was quite intimidating and she seemed uninterested in us. I work in reception and I know that you are the first person the guests see so you have to leave a good impression. When we got to the Hampton, the front desk informed me we had been 'upgraded' to stay at the neighbouring Hilton Bournemouth due to my Hilton Honors Gold Status. We walked over to Hilton next door, and were disappointed to find we had been put in a double room, and not a twin as per my original booking. I raised this matter with the front desk as the double room was not suitable for us. We were told by the Manager that the only other available room was a family room, which I reluctantly accepted. We then had to wait downstairs in the lobby for around an hour whilst our room was being prepared. The room wasn't as comfortable, with me taking the sofa bed and my son in the double. Much more concerning; there appeared to be what looked like blood stains in the bathroom, which obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. When I was leaving in the morning, the young lady at the front desk offered to waive the parking charges as a gesture of goodwill for inconvenience caused. Paid a little extra for the balcony with sea view. The sea view was awesome but the room was so small. To me this is a solo room. It was so difficult for us both to get showered and ready for the evening at the same time. The balcony definitely came in handy at this point as I sent my other half out on the balcony whilst I got myself ready 🤣 The average age when we stayed was likely around 70 due to what looked like a coach trip, this may have been just this couple of nights... Jenna, and the proprietors Tien and Charlene were all incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable about the area which contributed to that homely feeling. Hubby and I had an amazing few days in Bournemouth. The warm hospitality shown by the staff at The Applewood Hotel made our trip even more memorable. My room was excellent too Well decorated & presented beautifully. David the owner was such a good host too. Would definitely recommend the merchant house hotel. To anyone and would defo come back again. Thanks you David for a great time in poole.
