On arrival staff were very friendly and helpful, we felt very welcome. The food was good, we enjoy small plate sharing so the Japanese Mexican fusion is perfect for us. This is not really the fault of the on the ground staff but I think management really need to look at their offering against what else is out there on the market. Long read: We came to Peter street kitchen for the omakase menu. At the time of booking they offered two - a standard omakase menu with wine pairing for £130PP or a premium omakase menu with pairing for £200PP. We had opted for the premium. Upon arrival we were told that this option was no longer available so we'd have to have the standard omakase or opt to go a la carte. This is annoying as we had a preference for some of the dishes on the premium menu but so be it. I feel this could have been communicated to us ahead of time rather than on arrival. Not the fault of the staff greeting us but started off with a disappointment. We were seated, though when we were shown to our table it was only made up for 5 and there were 6 of us on the reservation. We then opted to go for the standard omakase rather than a la carte. Our waitress was lovely and asked us if we'd like to have a cocktail before the food/wine started. We said yes. The waitress went away but by the time somebody came back to take our drinks order (it didn't feel particularly long) other staff had already brought our first course and wine pairing, feels like poor communication. We had the 6 serving Tasting Menu and food food, as you would expect from a fine dining restaurant, was outstanding and everything was cooked to perfect and was bursting with flavours. A number of the dishes were also very original with actually the bread at the start being one of our favourites, it was a truffle bread with marmite butter! The rest of the courses, as you can see from the pictures were excellent and were served by the chef who gave you an overview of what they were. I was toying between 3 and 4 stars due to everything else around the experience. We have dined at a number of other fine dining restaurants and i think what let the White Swan down was it didn’t have that feel to it. It felt more like a very nice pub/restaurant. It wasn’t busy at all, with only four tables occupied and because of this the atmosphere was pretty non existent, with only very low background music playing. I have to say it was also extremely cold in the restaurant, clearly it’s June and there should’ve been no need for heating to be on but it was a cold day and they didn’t take that into account. A number of people kept their jackets on! I would also say that from start to finish the whole meal took 2 and a half hours and the gap between courses felt very long, considering the portions were quite small less of a gap between them would’ve been better. Due to recent surgery I couldn’t drink but Sparkling water was included free which was a very good touch, although having to pay an extra £9.50 each if you wanted a Stilton dish after dessert felt a little cheeky. Every single visit the food has been excellent, the staff are always friendly and happy to answer any questions you have, if they aren’t sure they quickly return after asking kitchen staff. We’ve also been a couple of time with our new born baby and they have always accommodated a table with access for our pram no issues at all. The meals are exceptional with regard to taste and choice. The owner really cares abmnd he seems to be on a furst name basis with many customers. Arrived about 8pm, the restaurant had a number tables occupied but not packed or busy. I was seated and provided with a menu and drinks almost immediately. But once my order was taken the food arrived fairly quickly, with a short delay between courses which lead to a very relaxed dining experience.
