A historic cathedral in Santarem. There were people inside ready for mass when we visited, didn’t want to interrupt so only stayed for a short time. There was a little museum connected to the cathedral but we didn’t enter.
Also known as Igreja Matriz, this church is one of the oldest in the city of Santarém. With masses every day, you can come here to check how the local culture embed with religion. It's rare to see a mass with only a few people, often the church staff needs to place more chairs outside for people to sit while attending service. Matrix's interior is very simple compared to churches seen in Europe and the US, and it resembles the architecture that can also be seen in the countryside of Brazil.

This colonial house converted into a donation based museum has a circular style chambers starting with indigenous artifacts, mainly ceramics and then a animal skeleton chamber, which its highlight is the skeleton of a whale who swam all the way along the Amazon river until it reached this area, which is a rare event for such a salt water marine animal.
