If you're not going for drink don't go. The food is poorly served , no taste, chewy, the portions are small and the coke came flat warm with no ice. The decorations is tacky, the wine bottles at the door are filthy and is the waiter deciding if the customer cheap paper napkins or fabric ones. The illumination is far from being even throughout the restaurant ( not intentionally but in an uncomfortable way). For the price of their options they had to do muuuch better. Not the case.

I really like Poeta Lounge! There's music sometimes. Even when there's not, the atmosphere is too nice to pass in the evenings. Its just peaceful. I just got very tired of eating meat since they almost don't serve dinner with rice or potatoes. So I don't really get it. Otherwise Poeta is a beautiful place to be. Just make sure to be specific about your dinner!

It’s hard to find vegetarian options in this country and this city, so it was nice that they had a vegetarian soup option on their menu which was also deliciously seasoned with a small spice kick and a generous portion. Great service. I do wish I was able to try something more local but they did not have in vegetarian options.

I guess it’s my fault for ordering steak in this dry country. When I saw it on the menu I got excited after weeks of fish only and I regretted it immediately. It was over cooked and dry and they should honestly remove it from the menu because they don’t know what they are doing when it comes to beef

I wanted a traditional Cape Verdean meal and came here. I ordered the Cachupa and it was to die for. It reminds me of a Haitian dish named TCHAKA. You definitely have to try it. They have different meat options with it such as fish or Porc and also vegetarian. My trip to Cap Vert would not be complete without it. Also noted our waiter speaks English so that was very helpful

Best catchupa we have had in two weeks in Cape Verde. Both the vegetarian and the fish one were so fresh and tasty! We also tried the fried banana which is a must. The service was quick, attentive and very kind. Plus a smile is always appreciated :) Not all dishes were available but the ones we have tried were great. Prices are excellent for the quality of the food and service. Look no further for a great meal in Praia !

The signature dish of Catchupa lives up to the hype and then some - it is so unique and tasty that I'd come back to Cape Verde just to try it again. I ordered the "Catchupa Carne" which comes with sausages and is, I think, the most traditional form of the dish. It was the perfect serving size for 1 person and I didn't need an appetizer or desert. I also had a caipirinha to drink which was fantastic. The service is fast and very welcoming.

Interesting experience. Certainly not the cheapest or best-value place in Praia. It's trying to be fancy, but I'm not sure if it succeeds. I waited 15+ minutes for a waiter to come for my money in order to receive change only to leave after not getting any attention at all. As a foreigner, everything just felt weird, I'm not sure if I want to come back.

Handmade ravioli for the win here! The seafood one I'm told is a favorite. The open air front seating was pleasant. I ordered a filet steak(wheat allergy) and it turned out great. Cooked to order and came out the same time as my table mates. Will definitely be back.

Location: 5/5 The restaurant is located by Beachfront, which is a key location. Inside seating arrangement: 4/5 The layout of the settings is thoughtfully arranged. Partial private booths, seating for multiple people, and areas with sofa seating are available. Overall, it is a good arrangement. However, it could be improved. Music: 2/5: I can not comment on the music since the selection is personal. I think the music selection is great and holds the vibe. However, the sound keeps disconnecting and needs system improvement. Service: 1/5 Since I do not speak Portuguese, selecting from the menu and communicating with the servers was difficult. I ordered a beer, coffee, and a stake. The beer came immediately, but the coffee never showed up. The stake came after 15 min. Most importantly, I don’t know if it is because of language or being black; I felt the attention was not the same to me as the servers had for others. Besides, even if I paid before I got up from my seat, one of the servers called me just before I exited the restaurant to ensure I had paid, and I felt discriminated against. Food: 1/5: I couldn't eat the beef because it smelled spoiled. I also only ate half of the sides, and the side salad didn't have dressing. Overall: 2/5 In general, I was not happy about the food and the service.

We went there for NYE and it was a real disaster! First they proposed a fixed menu; we agreed on it and it was fine but then they told us the menu is no longer available we have to order a la carte. Ok we adapt. One hour after ordering the food they told us the only option would be set menu ! Wine glasses smelled like the previous cocktail; barely washed and dirty. Do not recommend at all !

The food was good. Unfortunately, the service was worse. We got water in a PET bottle without a glass. A smile and a better mood wouldn't hurt. But I understand that not every day is joyful.

Love the atmosphere at this place and how close to the beach it is. You can either be on the lounge chairs and pay an extra 500 CVE or sit at the restaurant. The Waiters are very friendly and offer good service. They also have a child seat available. The octopus was good as well as the brownie dessert with ice cream and most especially the cheesecake (forgot to take a picture of it) was yummy. Would definitely come back multiple times to this place

I’ve came here a few times, the location is amazing, just beside or behind the beach, the food is delicious, however the staff service could improve a little bit. But overall it’s a great place, definitely recommending.

Good food, a bit pricey but in overall its worth the price and other restaurants in the areas are quite pricey as well. It was loaded of young people: tourists / Cap Verdian living abroad and coming back to Santiago so the ambiance is not at it bests because of the young crowd which are very loud. The staff try to do their bests but it’s very slow due to the overwhelming customers. The view is also not nice… I wouldn’t come back here during festive seasons.

Amazing view. Live music with a band. The menu had English included! I had order a lemonade/lime and that must of not translated well. It was literally just the juice and the lime/lemons.

Not so nice, Kriola. Ok, food was ok, although two recipes we ordered were not available. Waiters obviously didn’t like the job. No water in the toilets. Wrong bill, and change wasn’t correct neither. We’ve been here before, and then it was ok. Hopefully for them this was just an unlucky day.

Pro: Great food Cons: Beware of the dishonest trick they pull; when we sat down there was an unsolicited large dish of 10 prawns, meat and cheese cold cuts, and bread waiting for us which we never ordered. These amounted to €70+ worth of food which you need to uncomfortably ask the owner (waitress) to take back, which she reacted to in a very strange manner saying “the dishes are not free, I don’t work for free”. Very uncomfortable and confrontational start to what should be a nice meal. Whilst I understand in Portuguese restaurants it is common to have “couvert” waiting for you at the table, putting the single most expensive dish (prawns) on the table is frankly, dishonest. The owner is also fairly odd and unfriendly. From the first interaction (front door is locked from the inside) to later on (sending back unsolicited food Expensive for what you get

A secluded restaurant in a residential area close to the beach and hotels. We arrived a bit early without reservations and waited for Teresa to open the locked restaurant door, which was promptly locked behind us. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is tranquil and an excellent choice for a romantic dinner. We enjoyed well prepared entrees and dessert with a half bottle of wine (no wines by the glass). There is a standard cover charge and the prices are a bit higher that other local restaurants but worth it if you are looking for an interesting experience.

We arrived to the modest, side street location. The front door is locked, and parties are allowed in individually. Chef Teresa greeted, and waited on us. Customer service may not be her strong suit. I found her patronizing. The food was very good but... the experience was marred by the snooty, self-important, colonialist vibe. The space had little to no windows and felt like a wine cellar. The quality of the food was 4 stars, very good. The space was 3 stars, service 3 stars... so overall just ok.

Hidden treasure. Quaint little place set back off a quiet street, don’t miss it! Teresa herself both served and cooked and offered some choices for 1 which usually are for 2 people. Tasty, well presented and cooked with pride.

The menu doesn't have prices but we have never paid over 1600cve for 2 meals and 2 soft drinks. The staff are friendly and attentive. We have come here mainly for lunches and it seems most busy around 1:30-2pm.

This seems like a very popular place. The Spanish ham is authentic and proudly displayed. They have an extensive winelist but while we were ordering wine the price is adjusted by the server with a pen to just a bit higher. The service was good but the food was only ok. The steak filled with cheese and wine was very chewy and a bit dry.

As a cuban restaurant the food was good. I got the fried calamari. Quantity wasn much but it had good flavor. The environmet is decent. I suppose at night it would be better. The interior decor was more urban then fully representing the cuban culture which i would have enjoyed more.

Outdoor seating. Clean restaurant. The food is top notch. It is also healthy because it’s fresh ! I just walked in at 745am and got a bagel fresh out the oven 😍. I can’t believe I’m impressed by a bagel ! It is soft and light- not like bagels in the US that are heavy. Still, this isn’t my most impressive meal I’ve had here. The French toast with fresh fruit and eggs is my favorite. Catchupa ku atum is amazing. The iced coffee is my Achilles heel. It is so good. I stop by here for one as soon as I get off the plane and right before I head to the airport. Anabel is a must visit. Go see the great team there and my personal favorite, Sol ! I come here way too often - check out my photos for proof !

We were really looking forward to our breakfast, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. We ordered for three people, yet one breakfast arrived about ten minutes after the other two. When it came time to pay, the bill didn’t match the menu prices — some items were charged at higher rates, and there were even things listed that we hadn’t ordered or consumed. When we brought this up, instead of correcting the mistake, we were asked to pay the incorrect amount and leave. It was a very uncomfortable situation. It’s a shame, because the food itself was okay, but the service and billing issues completely overshadowed that. I hope management can take this feedback seriously and improve for future guests.

The food was amazing! Went there for the first time for dinner and returned the next day for lunch. Prices are affordable as well. Some of the staff speaks English, but they have excellent WiFi so you can communicate via translations. :)

The bagel was ok, don’t have enough sauce. Not as tasty as it looks. I think other plates were way better. The fries were quite good. Why is it written Ketchup and Mayo in the menu but we received Cocktail sauce? Be more specific. The ice cream was not as good as what it looks neither, we took vanilla and kinder bueno but it had a little bit of Strawberry flavour (because of the previous people who ordered I guess). Very great breakfast / brunch place in Praia! The wait times are (as usually experienced in Cabo Verde) a little longer then in Europe but that is just the vibe of being relaxed - food and drinks were really good and service was friendly!

Lot of coffee alternatives, the service is totally courteous and speaks really good English. The menu is in English as well so we did not have to use a translator. Food and ice rolls are good as well. In the back of the café are also tables available and especially at noon cold and shadowy.

Don’t think twice this is a must in tarrafal. We went 2 different nights and both times food was perfect ! Get the fish of the day and a pizza. Healthy /clean /amazing quality. Affordable. Although, it’s where tourist come but it’s definitely NOT a tourist trap. Owner is great and friendly. Didn’t have any deserts so no comments on that.

The backyard has a cute atmosphere. The service was friendly. But the pizza just wasn’t good - not at all an Italian pizza. The dough was dry and crispy - more like a tortilla. The pizza Margherita tasted fine. The pizza pesto wasn’t good at all. Instead of tomato sauce it comes completely covered with pesto which seems like a nice gesture at first but since the pesto doesn’t taste like much but leafy greens the taste of the pizza isn’t good at all.

It started that they said they had no still water left at 19.30 pm and went on with the fish which wasn't good tasting and you had the feeling that it wasn't that fresh as said in previous reviews and dry. The atmosphere although was nice and there was life music. The restaurant is always filled with people but don't take that as a cause to eat here. There are places in Tarrafal serving better food. Recommended for bottled beer Our friend in Vienna recommended it, our driver recommended it, our landlord recommended it, it was full - but really bad. It was for some reason impossible to get the wine-menu, the served (reco.mmended) white wine was the worst we drank in Cabo Verde. The fish was just really not good at all, uneatable - very dry with a slight but dominant rotten flavour. On the positive side: the people working there are very friendly. So the place is definitely recommended for bottled beer, I guess.

Appallingly slow service and average food. We were a large group that booked ahead to ensure they were prepared for our 8pm arrival. We were aware of other reviews saying service was bad but post Xmas day we had trouble finding other options for our group so had to chance it. Unfortunately those reviews were accurate. It took a little while to order but then we waited … and waited … and waited. They delivered some meals but not others. And our last meal for the group was delivered 2 hours later. The waiters really didn’t seem to care. Food was edible but not great. And we saw other smaller tables around us also waiting an age. I’d avoid at all costs.

This was comfortably the worst of the restaurants on the plateau in Praia that we tried. There's far better food to be had elsewhere in Praia. We waited more than two hours for the food which was poor when it arrived. My fish was bland and barely warm. The portion was small and the vegetables I ordered didn't show up. That wasn't the only issue with the order - there were multiple mistakes amongst the 15 of us. Other dishes missed completely or the wrong variant provided. In fairness the cocktails I ordered were good. The service was friendly although the lack of language skills (English, French or Spanish) made life difficult when things started to go wrong. All in all best to avoid.

At the end of my two-week trip, I spent the evening at Restaurante Avis. There was live music and I really enjoyed it. The man who sang tried hard and was good. I can't say anything about the food, but the Caiperiha was good. Recommend !

Bistro Noventa 90 is marvelous! The service is outstanding (the waiter's English was also very good); the atmosphere is lovely downstairs, and I imagine also upstairs. Most importantly the food was delicious. The grilled fresh tuna was lovely and delicious, along with its side dishes of salad and white rice with black beans. [I can't wait to return and try different dishes.

although it is on a more expensive side, but it was definitely worth coming here. we had the fondue, which was really delicious. it comes with fruits, rice and potato chips on the side. could not recommend it more. the coffee was also good, and cheap as well (100CVE). we also got some mushrooms on the side, which were delicious, too:) in short, i would recommend comming here if on an island😊❤️

Food was incredible. The meat was juicy and tender. My friend really liked the salad too. Simple but very nice menu options.

Good place to eat even for a quick lunch. Ordered the steak and it was a big portion so I was definitely more than satisfied. Great flavor and the provided potato crisps seem to be homemade in their kitchen which was a nice compliment to the meal.

Great place! The lady taking orders here is very nice even though I don't speak a word of Portuguese. Lime ice cream (gelado limao) is probably the best I've eaten anywhere. Prices are European there, but the taste of the meals and attentive service takes the victory. Wonderful place to have lunch while listening to the ocean waves.

Excellent Pizza, no English menu but the waitress was superb and translated it all using her phone. Restaurant was a bit scruffy but clean and you could view all the food being prepared, watching the pizza being hand spun and cooked was a treat to see.

It’s a nice and chill spot with lots of plants, a great view, and beautiful design. I can’t rate the food, but the place itself is definitely very nice and welcoming.

If I could I would have give 6stars. Their dishes are simply amazing. The octopus carpaccio was something incredibly soft and tasty, the first time I had it so good. And their lasagna octopus potatoes was special, I’m Italian and that was the best lasagna I had. Besides the local white wine really good, friendly staff and huge menu variety. They also have vegan options. The location is great a nice atmosphere and beautiful view on the ocean.

This is a good local restaurant. We stopped here for lunch when doing an island tour. I had grilled tuna with vegetables, salad, chips and rice. The vegetables were over cooked and the tuna was a little over done, but otherwise it was fine. Nice view of the beach. Don't feed the cats otherwise they won't stop bugging you!

This place was wonderful. Right on the beach and a beautiful view for the sunset. The food was wonderful and the owner was amazing. At 19.30 it was already empty and didn't have most of the menu, would have been nice to say it in advance without waiting for us to sit and order to drink. Honestly nothing special, and the waitress took her time to serve us like the restaurant was full of customers. Wouldn't particularly recommend.

Arrived at 2.15pm, waited 10min to get a menu that we got only after waving to the waitress to be noticed. Pasta Chorizo and fried chicken ordered, 15min more to get a glass of (bad) wine and a bottle of water. At 3.30pm my girlfriend for her chicken but I was still waiting for my pasta. When she finished I finally went to the counter to cancel my dish….. which arrived within 3min later. I generally nice and easygoing but here they really got on my nerves. European travelers, beware!

Horrible tourist trap. The appetizers were decent but my dish (see picture) was an abomination. The pig cutlet was hard like wood, the “gambas” (prawns) indicated in the menu was actually one single lone solitary prawn. The fries were soggy and the rice cold. Hairs (2) over the meat. The service was rude and slow, with an empty restaurant. Horrible horrible experience. Stay away.

Very poor service. We were left waiting for over one and a half hour after we made the order. To order we had to wait for 15 mins for the waiter to come and take it. For such a pricy restaurant you would expect a much better service.

Really loved the atmosphere of this place. Singers singing live, people sitting outside, staff that in great mood that swing to the music. The food was good, loved my burger and the juice. Staff were also very kind, when it started raining they rushed over to help relocate to a covered table.

Nice ambient place. Waiter spoke propper english and even taught us some Crioulo. Another waiter however did not speak english, guess it depends on who serves you. The Cachupa was nice (except the sausage) and the tuna sandwich was not incredible but decent (both also not expensive).

This restaurant has a very nice view over the beach in Tarrafal. The prices are quite expensive given the cheap equipment of the service. I recommend the Kachupa or a fish plate. Service is good. We were a bit hesitating. The restaurant is located in a busy, beautifully kept street with many bustling restaurants and bars. The restaurant didn’t look like much, soccer was playing inside, a few locals were hanging out. The cheerful waitress gave us two recommendations (seafood spaghetti and fried cod fish) and we just decided to go for it. We were happy we did!!! The food was absolutely gorgeous - tasty and spicy and nicely plated. The taste and preparation of the cod was very unique and the seafood spaghetti was the best I ever had!

Amazing dinner, great burgers, friendly service went for Breakfast and Dinner. Problem with the breakfast is that you cannot enjoy it at all as there are too many wasps making it impossible to eat. This seems to be a location specific problem as we had it nowhere else on our trip. For dinner the only pity is that they do not open earlier as in November at 6:30 when they start serving dinner the sunset is already over and its soon pitch black taking away the whole USP of the place overlooking the sea and theoretically being the perfect sunset dinner spot.

We had here the best burger in whole Cape Verde (already been on 3 other islands for over 2 weeks). Also the waffle with home made ice cream was delicious. The restaurant is located on the rooftop and has a very charming atmosphere. Just enter the Strela B&B and go the staircase up to the top. Highly recommend and would definitly come back!

Great rooftop dinner experience! The food was good. We had the tuna burger and a spaghetti. Both dishes were rich in flavor and well prepared. The atmosphere and the view was lovely. The staff here was very nice and attentive. Very satisfied with our dinner here. We didn’t have cocktails but it looked like they were making good cocktails and that the bartender knew what he was doing.

Our first negative culinary experience in Cabo Verde. When ordering, you have to expect about an hour of waiting. The moray eel was good. But octopus was prepared like rubber. The knife had a hard time handling it. The pork was even more 'rubber style', inedible. The knife couldn't handle these pieces of meat very well. The homeless dog was happy. It's nice that the restaurant has wine from Fogo.

I don't know if the owner changed recently but this was one of the worst restaurant I had in my life. The food was not even good for dogs we ended up paying and leaving without eating more than 2 bites. "Fresh" fish with no bones, tasting only salt and rubber. Shrimps swamped in a yellow juice not shelled (and we asked for grilled). Caipirinha was green fluo and tasted alike. I could say more things but you get the idea.

The dishes are OK but there is so much better out there. The breakfast is included for all stays at the hotel and while they have a large buffet the quality is lacking a bit and very few vegetarian options. For dinner they had a pasta option as one of the only vegetarian options and that was actually a pretty decent dish, maybe just a bit too greasy. Very good service.

I wish I could give a better rating because the food was actually tasty and the waiters very friendly but I caught food poisoning there... After having dinner at this restaurant I spent the whole night in the bathroom and the next day in bed... Ironically 2 days later I went on a tour and 2 guests from this hotel were picked up and immediately mentioned their "digestive problems" and we stopped at a pharmacy. So it doesn't seem like a coincidence..... Please check your hygiene!!

We had a nice meal at Creole. Attentive and kind staff. As a vegetarian it is challenging to find balanced meal options in Cabo Verde, but Creole has a Moqueca de Tofu, a Mushroom Risotto, and a Seitan Linguine. I enjoyed the tofu moqueca and vegetable soup. My steak-loving partner enjoyed the Bitoque. We will definitely return. They have music on Tuesdays and Thursdays! Thanks.

I recently dined at Orla in Cape Verde and was disappointed by the experience. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty, I waited approximately an hour for a simple order of wings and fries. When the food finally arrived, the wings were halfway burnt and completely lacked flavor. While the fries were decent, the long wait time and poor quality of the wings made the visit underwhelming. I hope the management takes this feedback into consideration to improve both kitchen efficiency and food quality moving forward.

Orla is a nice and beautiful place to end up a day in Praia, a restaurant overlooking the beach of Quebra Canela. We have enjoyed a decent meal watching the sea and being served by our waitress Lucia with a bright smile all along, very professional! Fully recommend to have dinner in Brisa. Very easy and not very shiny restaurant but the food is just awesome. We had a local fish (don’t remember the name) and a Tuna Steak which was great. We also had a delicious caipirinha and some vino verde, both very good. The waiter was very nice and made the evening a blast. Prices very low for the quality of Food.

We were in Tarrafal already for a couple of days when we discovered this local restaurant. This was definitely the best place we have eaten so far! The food is amazing, we tried the fish of the day and the chicken and both were great. Plus the prices are very good. The owner of the restaurant is also very friendly. We had extremely delicious cotelette and fish of the day. The marinade of both dishes was just so good, something very special. The owner was super friendly. Waiting time was a bit long, but everything was freshly prepared which takes time of course. We definitely recommend this restaurant and will go there again! I heard this place is a well known one hence being always really busy so, we went on a Monday afternoon after 7. Stunning, plenty of seating and nice location. Good variety of cocktails and seafood menu. To drink we had a Blackcurrant somersby and a Madagascar. To eat i had Polvo com legumes ( Grilled octopus with vegetables) and my friend tuna with veg. Mine one was really good, flavourful and nice presentation. The potatoes were really good too, just wished it was a little hotter. Overall me and my friends had a really nice experience and everyone loved the food

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here with my family. This is a modern restaurant with a great sound system and lounge areas. We were invited to choose our own table. The location is fantastic with an ocean view over Kebra Canela Beach. It was refreshing to enjoy the ocean breeze while waiting for our dinner. The menu offered a variety of options in terms of portions and dietary preferences, including vegetarian options. The waitress was accommodating to our special requests and the wait time was typical for Cape Verde. For drinks, we ordered bottled beverages but they were nicely served alongside iced glasses of fruit/lime. I ordered the grilled tuna which was served with vegetables and rice. This dish was beautifully plated and I highly recommend! My family enjoyed their cheeseburger and thin crust pizza. The pizza was big enough for two people to share. We also enjoyed the pudim for dessert. We would definitely return for dinner and/or drinks.

The waiter was clearly not experienced he came with red wine when I had ordered white and after he poured I did see that it was red I told him white wine was ordered later the manager tried to stick to opened bottle on my account. Matters were worse when the bill came and that bottle was still on it. At request they removed it but i have a feeling they made the meal more expensive... It all started with the ordering of a small bottle.of.water and a pineapple juice and a glass of white wine which they could not get correct.

This location is at one of the nicest places in south Santiago directly at Kebra Canela beach. The restaurant’s design is very modern and up to date. We visited this nice place 2 days after the grand opening and felt very well with the food, the ambiance and the service. We know that every beginning has its challenges, but the way we experienced it shows great potential.

Back again after six months and we were staggered that it has improved from the very high standards that it had then. The three course set lunch for two was less than £100 all in, without alcohol, and the dishes were all superb. The 'fish soup' (pictured) was in fact four pieces of fish each on its own veg setting set in a sauce, they really should think of another name. Exceptional value, super food.
