We had the most fantastic lunch here so excited to have found this place. It’s often hard to find a good balance menu and a great drinks menu for lunch in Whangārei. We had the Caesar salad and the BBQ chicken salad they were both fantastic. The staff are incredible!! the best place in Whangārei for sure. If you’re in the area or you live here, the new ownership is working great fantastic looking forward to seeing it evolve. I highly recommend giving it a try. A+++

We had a wonderful dinner at Split Bar and Restaurant! The fish with risotto was absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The cocktail was just as impressive, and we loved every sip.
Huge thanks to our waitress, who recommended both the fish and the cocktail—she really knew her stuff, and we were not disappointed. Great service, delicious food, and a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend!
We visited Split Bar & Restaurant for drinks and dinner on an early Saturday evening and had a wonderful experience. The staff were warm, welcoming, and excellent at their jobs. We enjoyed some tasty snacks followed by dinner — the snapper fish of the day was absolutely delicious, and my son loved his pasta as well. Great customer service paired with the yummiest food made it a fantastic evening!

We had a lunch here with workmates and had a lovely time. The highlight was the owner of the restaurant who explained the menu and made us feel very welcome. The food was fresh and good quality. I wish we could have stayed longer and tried more of the menu. Thank you for serving us.
The food was beyond amazing. We had the scotch fillet and BBQ chicken salad. Very filling and good sized portions. They also have a kids menu and also have high chairs available. Our child had the bacon fettuccine which was great. We walked in without a reservation so had to sit at the back. Service was very friendly and accommodating.

A surprisingly authentic Thai restaurant i. Whangarei. There are a lot of choices including gluten free and vegetarian dishes. The food is a little bit on the sweet side and not quite spicy enough if you're from SE Asia. But they probably have to adjust the temperature to suite the kiwi tastebud so that's understandable.
Service was great and the wait staff were patient and courteous albeit they don't speak Thai. Food was well prepared, authentically seasoned, and came in generous portions. I had the Penang suj jai which was phenomenal. In fact it was so good that I took two spoonfuls before I remembered to take a picture.
Parking is a bit challenging as you have to park on the street. I'm not sure whether it's OK to park in the parking lot shared by a bunch of chain restaurants a block away.
Place is lovely and clean and some of the staff have a nice customer service face. We found the yellow curry very bland and watery. Also the pad Thai was lacking flavor. Tried the kiwi colada which is like a pinacolada but with kiwi fruit, it was tasty.
Great restaurant! Walking up you can smell the deliciousness already. When we went it was packed but the staff managed everything perfectly. Great food, friendly attentive staff there were multiple large tables and they never let it get away on them. We all ordered different dishes and everything was cooked beautifully. Big portion sizes, we were able to take some home and enjoy it again the next day. Can’t wait to visit again

Dined here Valentines Day 2024 and it was beautiful. After travelling 277 kms from our home we dined here again to an exceptional meal and exemplary service from Jackson. Thank you Walker and your team for a very wonderful dining experience. We will be back again next year 😊

Beautiful food and charismatic staff, we had a wonderful evening. We chose the sharing platter entree to start and it was delicious. The fish of the day special was exquisite. All food was full of flavour.
In my view the best restaurant around. The food is absolutely delicious. Everything we tried was out of this world. The view is spectacular and the team is extremely helpful.

Great place for lunch, We had fish and chips and poached eggs on toast. The toast was not too well toasted and when told about this they quickly sorted the issue. Great service and nice toilets.

We stopped by The Quay Whangarei on a visit and didn't expect much, but the place was packed, a great sign. The service was truly lovely. Our waitress was so attentive and always came by to check on us and make sure we were happy. The food was also tasty and enjoyable. We'll definitely come back if we get a chance to visit Whangārei again.

TopSail is a bright and airy special-occasion dining room located adjacent to the water, offering fabulous calm water views. The restaurant has a storied history of over 21 years and sits on the tip of a peninsula, providing panoramic views over Whangarei Harbour. It offers intricate farm-to-table local cuisine that makes use of seasonal ingredients, resulting in beautifully presented dishes.
We are glad that we discovered the restaurant by chance, after looking at the area on Google. We were impressed by the reviews and decided to try it. Every dish we ordered was special, well-prepared, and delicious. With good wines. And professional and courteous service. It was a perfect evening. Next time we will come so we can also admire the view. Highly recommended.

Top sail has it all - a nice intimate atmosphere, great service and amazing food! It was the best venison i’ve had and the flavours all complimented eachother perfectly.
Little touches like the chef greeting us personally and the complimentary salad & potatoes really added to the experience. My partner and I drove a 6 hour round trip to celebrate our anniversary here and it was worth every minute :)
A great find and the best fine dining restaurant in Whangarei. It has a limited menu and open specific days but "Less is More"
A real delight from the manager, chef and staff who all went out of their way to give a intimate experience. Even to chef taking time to "review" our 5 year old dinner creation (plating).
Food is exceptional, every dish was on mark for presentation and taste. Some suprised me in their plating which I enjoy.
Wine list was very good with a selection that will not dissapoint.
Reservations are recommended as our impromptu visits at times had no seating avail. A nice problem for any restaurateur.

We had never been here before. My wife took me there for a date night. Fantastic choice. Don't be put off with the prices being a bit on the high side because it is worth every cent. The service, the setting by the sea, to the amazingly presented plates of mouthwatering food. On special occasions, we will be back.
Debbie was most welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely divine. The flavours were delicious. Portions weren't massive but we all left there full. Charlotte waited our table and was humorous and pleasant. Ian, the chef was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant. We will most certainly go again.

Popped in because we noticed it was full of customers , generally we hoped this was because it was a must visit and glad we popped in we left very happy !
The customer service here is amazing from start to finish every staff member we come across made us feel welcome and they all worked so seamlessly together which was nice to see ☺️ Food selection was great and full of good choices , the food was well cooked and nicely presented and came out very fast compared to others we have dined in with . We had a mix up with the end docket total but the staff member that allowed us to discuss it was very helpful , considerate and accomodating and rectified the issue immediately the overall service we received today only would bring us back to visit the next time we are here

Beer was nice and cold, everything was very disappointing. The restaurant was basically empty, but for some reason a plate of Nachos took around 40 minutes to arrive. After following up with the waitress, she advised it was being plated and on its way. Another ten minutes later it was delivered, but barely warm and very average. The chef sent her apologies, stating "she's not on her game today!?!" I'm glad we didn't order anything that actually required skill or effort. Very disappointing attitude and $54 not well spent.
$28 for a very basic nachos and two Tigers @ $14 each. The restaurant is also dark and cold, with no heating in the middle of July.
We recently celebrated an 80th birthday at Dickens Inn, right during the transition from the old owners to the new owners, and we couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience. Both the previous owners and the new owners went above and beyond to make sure our night went perfectly. They were incredibly accommodating and friendly, even stepping in to serve themselves when staff were short.
We had a buffet for our event, and they were more than happy to accommodate the changes we wanted. The food was absolutely delicious, with a wonderful range of fresh salads, perfectly cooked vegetables, tender roasts, and beautiful desserts. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the whole night ran seamlessly for an event we’d been planning for a long time.

Took my parents and kids here for my birthday. Had a good range of seating, the fire going and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Prices are pretty standard when eating out at places now. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly and well accompanied by potato gratin, salad and mushroom sauce. And rest of the table were very satisfied by their meals.

My boys and I came in on Friday night and had the best time at Dickens Inn. We ordered the fettuccine meals with spuds in a bucket – absolutely beautiful kai that we enjoyed thoroughly. The Pina Colada cocktails and the Beach Hut mocktail were spot on, while the boys loved their chocolate and caramel shakes.
The service was great and prompt, and we felt genuinely welcomed by the front-of-house staff. Everything was smooth, friendly, and made the evening special.
10/10 all round – we’ll definitely be back!
We ordered Eggs Benedict, The Big Breakfast, Creamy Mushrooms and the kids pancakes and WOW. Everything was PERFECT. Haven't been this happy eating out in a long time. The service was delightful too. Will absolutely be back.
Dickens accommodated our big group for dinner and also breakfast the next day. They were very helpful, polite and accommodating. The food was a good standard and generous portions the menu was varied. Would visit again.

The food was beautiful and hot and well presented. Lovely fine dining. We went on a Sunday and so had a set menu. Reasonably priced for beautiful well presented and delicious tasting food. We had fish and chips with buttered and regular fries, as well as nachos with beef. The food was good; however, the waitress kept clearing our plates while we hadn’t finished eating, which was quite disappointing.
Beautiful looking large plates of food which was well presented. Service very good. Atmosphere very nice. I had a meal which was not as hot as it should have been and was impressed at their response to rectify this. We will definitely return.
We got there about an hour before closing and there were 10 of us. They checked with kitchen and still accommodated us. Service was still great and we are mindful that these people might be so ready to go home. Food is excellent. Will definitely come back.
We ate lunch here at 12pm on a Saturday afternoon. Location is right at the town basin. It didn’t take long for the cafe to fill up. It’s a basic looking cafe, yet it serves a variety of nicely presented good-portioned meals. It’s clean with staff out and about cleaning and clearing tables regularly.
Great service, my fish portion was much less than my group that largely ordered the same meal and they promptly sorted it out. Good service, food was tasty and staff were friendly.

I checked the café’s website before coming — looked through the menu and prices, and everything seemed fine. When I arrived (after paying for parking), I was surprised to see that the breakfast mains were around $10 more expensive than what was shown online.
I asked to speak to the manager, Tony, and explained the situation. Instead of acknowledging the issue, he refused to match the price, saying it wasn’t their fault that they forgot to update the website. I was honestly shocked by both his tone and attitude.
It’s unacceptable for a business to advertise one price online and charge something completely different in person — and then blame the customer for noticing. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place

Love the tablet set up, it really does beat having to get staff attention ordering drinks or extras you may need. You still get that personal touch from the staff, and when ordering for a big group makes life so much easier with multiple tablets. Thank you for making our Dads birthday special, we very much appreciated your hospitality. You guys are tops!

Fantastic menu but mediocre execution. The mac and ribs both tasted great. Tho the serving size of the mac and onion rings felt and looked small for the price. Burgers tasted good but were pricey and difficult to eat. Fries were average and quite a small serving size. The dessert menu looked great but also appeared quite small for the price. The restaurant itself is nice. The server forgot to provide us with utensils and water until our food arrived.
Great atmosphere in the place, staff are brilliant and attentive.
The chicken wings as an entree were great, nice smoke flavour and tangy buffalo sauce. The main however, lacking so much. Their ribs, no smoke ring on the meat, just relying on the sauce for flavour.

However, a thing is, we came all the way to Whangarei after a year since last time, just for the ribs. Our friend in Auckland couldn’t join us because of some family issues, so we wanted to take some back for them, but we were told it’s not allowed to takeaway, because of the “policy.” We don’t really understand what's this stupid policy for.... It's disappointed and a shame we can’t share the goods with our friends.....

Popped in for lunch with my partner to get something quick and filling. The beef pho was massive definitely one of the larger pho I’ve had and the broth was sweet, not too savoury or salty I do like more fish sauce but it was delicious.
The banh mi was what I was wanting. Crispy bread with heaps of veggies and tasty chargrill chicken thigh. It’s the first Vietnamese restaurant I’ve been to that has hoisin as a table condiment which went well with the banh mi.
Tables were actually cleaned with detergent not just wiped with a wet cloth. It’s my top 5 restaurant for Whangārei for value for money.

Usually really good, go here atleast once a week for the vermicelli. Always great but today had a really weird flavour and I could not eat it it tastes so bad. I pulled the pork out cause I thought was that but it was the whole dish. Was really busy in store so could have been the reason it wasn’t up to standards? We found this restaurant after a tired trip. The service was good. We ordered smoked salmon summer roll and chilli mussel for starter, they were highly recommended. After having a mouthful of pho soup, I felt warmer. although the fried rice was a little salty, the tasty was good.
The place was clean and tidy, meals are a decent size and good value for money. The pho was a cheap dinner out and there is a decent range of food on the menu. The atmosphere and service was average. I was happy enough with the meal but have eaten a lot of Vietnamese around the world so was a bit disappointed the broth lacked the depth of flavour the dish is normally well known for. That being said, i ate the whole thing! I didn't think the place was outstanding but definitely good for a casual cheap eat.

I had very generous helpings of kafal chicken, methi paratha and a mango lassi, which I had requested 'not too sweet and runny' please, which the chef was happy to adjust for me.
The meal was served with side condiments of their very yummy home made yoghurt and some lime pickle.
I was the only person dining in around 5.30pm, but it certainly seemed very popular for takeaways.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely consider coming back next time I'm in Whangārei.

It’s frustrating when something so simple can’t be done right, especially when ordering online where you expect consistency. I really hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works on improving both the preparation quality and quality control.
We have visited their restaurant few times , but each time you try a dish , that is tasty and too the mark. We tried fried rice and tandoori chicken yesterday was not oily and was so good 😊. @Baljit was really good service from her as well. Keep up the good work guys.

Hot goat curry was tasty although it wasn't as spicy as I expected. It had bones, too. Prawn curry was a bit sweet to my liking. Rice was ordinary low-grade and moist, not the usual basmati. Prices are OK; and will definitely go back to try the other dishes.
Don’t usually take the time to write a review but I was extremely disappointed with the meals and the response when I raised my concern with the manager. Brought the buttered chicken meal ($17.90 x2) along with Naan bread (spent $50). Only got a few measly pieces of chicken and the rest was 3/4 container of juice. He offered a meager 10% discount off my next meal which I doubt I will be going back for.

Recently, I tried the chicken jalfrezi and chicken Tikka masala dishes from Divine Indian restaurant, and they were both outstanding. The garlic naan had a delightful flavor and wasn't doughy. The prices were reasonable, and I plan to go back for their lunch special. The service was excellent, and I highly recommend this place. Ordering over the phone on a Thursday night was quick, with only a 20-minute wait upon arrival to pick up the food.
Have come here several times over the last few years. Consistency with taste never waivers. A small takeout space with the most friendly people who even bring your food out to you, in your car, with a smile. The vegetarian samosas are delicious and reasonably priced.

I went with my girlfriend for her birthday, the waitress who served us was too rude, she started yelling at us because she didn't understand English very well, we tried to be patient because it was a special day, but she was very rude and everyone was looking, so we decided leave, I was looking forward to trying the food, it looks delicious in the photos……In addition to that, the owner responded to my comment by blaming me when I wasn't the one who spoke, it was my girlfriend and the waitress, I told her to leave, we couldn't be in a place like that where they yell at you, where they treat you badly, the lady was too rude
Hey i went there second time after 1 year. we ordered some cholay bhature and some tandoori chicken today. Cholay bhature was fresh and nice. Hence 2 star review.But tandoori chicken was probably old and very hard to eat. Don’t recommend chicken from them. Hopefully they will improve.

While the food was delicious, the service left much to be desired. I was with an autistic client, and we waited over 40 minutes to be served. I had to walk to the front to try and place our order, but the woman with red hair repeatedly said she’d come to take it—only to prioritize seating new customers instead of attending to those already waiting. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since others who arrived after us were served quickly and received utensils while we were overlooked. I eventually had to put my hand up and the other elderly waitress Angie who came with a smile, The only positive she was friendly and genuinely kind —five stars to her.
We had breakfast and coffee at Quail Café the food, service, and location were all excellent. It is a little bit expensive, but definitely worth it for the quality and experience. The staff were friendly, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere made it even better. Highly recommend.

Great place to come if you are staying at the Quest Hotel, Whangarei; access to the Butter Factory is via elevator to the basement, walk to the the exit door, turn left. Once you hit the street (approximately 10 meters or more) you will be walking into the doors of the Butter Factory.
Food; In my opinion the food was great and fairly well priced. The service was good as well. Great cocktails in a unique space.
Value for money; Overall, the two of us ate for around $60.00 - this was for their signature burger and chips, iced coffee, and drinks. I conclude that it was in line with the pricing in this area.

They brought my dog iced water straight away and raw steak for my chocolate lab. I got the chicken and avo burger, it was the best burger I've ever eaten!! Ever!!! My boyfriend got the pork ribs and loved it also.
My go-to place to eat out in Whangarei. The food is delicious with great specials throughout the week on their nachos and salads, especially the Thai beef. The mocktails are nice, but some of the other non-alcoholic drinks could be improved. They used to do a full ice cream iced chocolate, which was always my favourite, but now it’s just ice and powder that I could make at home and not really worth the price. It can be a bit short-staffed at times, but the food always makes up for the wait. Overall a definite recommend — convenient and delicious.
Loved it here! Dined in and got takeout multiple times and will continue to return. The food is super yummy, especially the Chicken Caesar Burger (so good!). The cocktails are divine too, and everything’s really affordable for the quality you get. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the place is spotless every time I visit, even the bathrooms.
The only small thing that would be an improvement is giving a heads-up when closing early, tried to come in various times on weekdays but the gate was shut. No sign or notice that they were closed online or social media. Otherwise, totally recommend! 💕✨

Gorgeous little place with an outdoor covered deck as their dining area also has lot of pretty flowers around makes you feel like you're in the middle of a garden. The banh mi was amazing tasted so good and as a chef myself I can say all the ingredients were fresh. I got a mango flavoured boba ice tea which was great too.

After moving to NZ I've been missing authenticly good food. Oh, how happy I am I found this little spot. It might not look like much on the outside, but the food tastes so amazing! We had the noodle soup, noodle salad and dumplings. We will definitely come back here!!

We went with few mum's and bubs to try their new bubble milk tea. The taste was good, but I have to say, it is not well designed for little bubs. Also, we had to wait for a bit of time as there wasn't enough people to cook? The lady who served us told us to order the same food instead of different noodles as it would take longer to cook for her.
I would suggest, if there was another staff member to help it would have been better!

Amazing! Really beautiful place, made with lots of love and care. So many things to discover and explore and even hiking through the forest. We had a lovely time (two hours walking, hiking, and exploring) there.

If you like plants, then this is a must do. A great back story of self-help and community action bought to life in a post industrial setting. Some of the collections are world-class, and once you have admired the considerable handiwork of the team that run the place, the cafe is a very pleasant place to have a coffee or a light meal.
A lovely walk around these sub tropical gardens. Nice cafe too! Cyclone Gabrielle unfortunately took out the arid section, but the rest is beautiful.
So lovely here. Sadly damaged in some special areas from cyclone Gabrielle but it's coming back with lots of care and time.

The café is pretty good to have a coffee and something to eat, but if you want, grab a takeaway coffee and go for a wonder around the gardens. Absolutely spectacular. I only get there a couple of times a year but love walking through the gardens. Very peaceful setting by the lake and the walk, checking out the gardens, is very relaxing. A must visit.

It isn’t hard to smile and be friendly. Due to my experience I will NEVER return to this ridiculous restaurant again, the two staff made me feel unwanted in their business, like I was an annoyance coming late at 9pm, and the looks I got from the male Indian staff member with the red turban made me super uncomfortable being there, music was playing prior to me entering, then for some reason it was turned off so I sat in silence waiting for my order. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

I had a few meals at Shiraz Haveli Indian restaurant, mainly because the first visit’s experience was a positive one.
I found on the second evening visit that the menu given to me the previous evening was only a lunch menu! Even upon requesting, the staff did not budge.
That said, the place looked busy - with diners as well as takeaway clients. The food was delicious and the service reasonably quick.
Stopped here on the way back from Whangarie. It was a public holiday so they charged up a surcharge which is fine, but the food was on the verge of being non-edible.
I am a type of guy who will like anything in a restaurant, but their curry's were stale (especially the daal) and the other curry's had too much spices in them (even though I ordered medium).

Overall experience was a so-so. Pizza wasn't that great, and lasagna was dry. I'd prefer more sauce than what they are serving. Price a bit steep for that size.
It took about 25-30min for our food to come out. And atmosphere was bland, no music, inside dining was dark so opted to come out.
My partner and I come here almost every week. Phenomenal food, we adore the pasta and the service is always so lovely. The staff are always exceptionally friendly and it creates such a lovely environment to eat our food in. Definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.

My partner and I went here on a whim during our short stay in Whangarei (other options we were contemplating seemed either too hip or too pricey or suffering too many bad reviews) and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the food was superb.
We shared one starter of samosa - two huge potato and pea samosas - and then had the lamb saag and the beef Madras, both served with complementary rice. The meat in both dishes were unbelievably tender and we enjoyed the medium heat we had asked for - a pleasant and not overwhelming heat. I'm sure we'll be back when in Whangarei again.

19 of us celebrated our daughters 16th birthday and we have the best night. Service was wonderful right from the booking to leaving. The lady who served us throughout the night was both friendly and professional. The Atmosphere was pleasant with the bonus of a beautiful view of the town basin in the evening. Now the food.... was delicious!! Full of flavour and a few dishes that packed a punch. The Sesame Prawn toast starter is a must.

Absolutely delicious. We ordered so many plates and shared them all between us. Was a great way to share a birthday meal. Have to say the kale salad, the duck with pancakes and the mushroom dishes were bit hits. Thank you so much for how you brought out the birthday cake too. Will definitely be back :-)

Took mum out for her birthday as I loved this place for the experience we had as "Love Mussel". Place looks beautiful. Tidy and clean. Initially the waitress who looked after us was professional and friendly. Had dumplings as a starter. Then mains, Duck and Ramen bowl. Maybe we are not used to Japanese cuisine of this nature. But my Ramen had no flavor. Apart from hint of Miso an Peanut coming through. The duck was partly dry and was cold, plus for a non spicy dish getting chunks of chilli was a funny shock to mum who didn't recognize the slices in the duck dish. Anyway our waitress returns and asks how the meal was. I shrugged my shoulders and tried to make light of it as its hard giving straight up feedback. I mentioned lack of flavour an that I stole some of the hoisen from the duck dish. The waitress asked if i wanted something else but im never sure what that entails and didn't want to upset anyone. I never saw the waitress again. She collected our plates off mum when I was in the bathroom and didn't offer any further assistance. A while later she collected plates at the table next to us and asked how their food was. They said "good thanks", the waitress replied with "that's what I like to hear, it makes my life easier". It was intentionally to have us hear. She seemed mildly agitated when walking around. But we enjoyed the atmosphere and other aspects of the service. I'll make mention of one last thing. Not always a good look plucking your g string from your butt while walking the floor looking after people's food in plain site. But it definitely lightened our somewhat tainted mood.

After trying all Indian restaurants twice in Whangarei. We found the top 3 had their pros and cons but Indian Aroma had the best curry's with depth of flavour, good texture (not watery) heat the level you ask. (we ask for Indian hot) Fairly priced and excellent service. Owners couldnt do enough to make our eating experience memorable. 👍

We have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is good with an extensive menu, lots of choices including several vegan options. The service is quick and friendly, we didn't wait long for our order to be taken or for the food to arrive. The restaurant is reasonably priced with mains costing less than $20 in the majority of cases, and including rice.

We visited Indian Aroma as a family with two fussy daughters and a son who loves his butter chicken and we were all very happy with the food. The service was fast and professional and the cheesy garlic naan was delicious. All curries were at the heat requested varying from very mild to hot. We'll be back and will recommend to friends.

French toast very nice, though bacon could be cooked in smaller pieces. Hot chocolates are also good. Need heating would be great on these cold days, please turn heaters on up on wall. Staff could be alot friendlier.

Great little café. The Moroccan Lamb Salad is absolutely incredible, and the coffees are some of the best around. The beef burger was a little underwhelming in flavour and texture, but I'd go back there for the lamb salad, any day.
While the venue setting was nice, my salmon omelette was not the freshest and i ended up not eating the rest of the plate. The criss cross chips were pretty good though

Sunday evening meal. Excellent food, wonderful selection of dishes and sides. Very reasonably priced.Highly recommended if you're into either Thai or Indian. Enjoyed an unhurried 2 course meal served as ordered. Soups with naan and a side of garlic prawns, then mains with naan and rice. What I liked was that service was fast but not rushed allowed time for conversation, food was hot and delicious. Servings were of a good size, good sauces. Atmosphere was quiet and reserved, but it was a Sunday evening. The house Pinot was of excellent quality according to my wife and they had dark speights (couldn't ask for more). We'll be going back with friends.

This restaurant from outside may look old, I have not been to India but the food tastes very good. It might even be an understatement to say it is good. Our favourite pani puri tastes so refreshingly great with their mint and tamarind sauce all together. Their naan bread and paratta took us to the clouds and left us a smile on our faces as we indulge in each bite. With our buttered chicken where we are so used to having it sweet, they have it in balance! Homeostasis at its finest. 🙃 A bonus, they even offered us free rice as they see we still have heaps of buttered chicken left. However rice is not life for us, so we took a pass on that offer. But very much appreciated. 💯

I had salmon eggs benedict and my partner had the big breakfast which we both enjoyed. First cafe that I could get avocado and salmon without having to pay extra but hollandaise wasn't the best but still ok. Huge portions made it that much more enjoyable. Cafe is a little outdated and hot chocolate a little milky although bowl was very large. Staff are friendly. Good pricing here.

I really enjoyed this cafe, it was nice to be welcomed by both staff members at the till. Lots of seating and space to spread out. Standard tables also some comfy couches with coffee tables, also another room of seating. I had a savoury cheese and onion tart and lemon cake, with a almond milk chai latte. All pretty decent and quickly served.
It has a ramp entry and steps so every body friendly. Parking on the surrounding streets.

We've always found it a bit hard (but love it up here, gee you fellas are lucky eh!!! no dramas up these ways!) after running away from Tāmaki Makaurau, as quite frankly the 80s is in full effect in infrastructure & environment which can be quite hard to adjust too. So, Jafa here, used to North Shore & Inner City food spots.
Like many cool places we've found in Whangarei, this is one of those choice little kai spots that a Jafa can feel food loved again, where there's no bells & whistles, just great service, excellent kai, & a relaxed environment. Nothing quite like it.
Definitely worth the stop in. We had dinner & I'm pretty sure I rolled out the door. Not sure if I was supposed to eat the noodle type cup that my beef came in, but I ate it anyway cause I can.
The waitress of the night was excellent. Managed all our tables just fine & professionally. Orders came promptly, kai was sizzling & beautifully cooked & prepared. Check out the carrot eagle photo I uploaded. Epic.
I think it you are expecting 5 star bottom of an Auckland Hotel type dining, then yes you'd be disappointed. This place sits on the comfortable fringe of casual dress, great for kids. So definitely check yourself before you head in, you don't have to get all done up, not that kind of place. Expect fine kai & a good happy atmosphere around other diners.

This is good value for money. 5x adults cost us $187 and only one of us got a drink. So roughly $35 ea for ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet within 30min. The decor and atmosphere could use a spruce up but overall the food was good and came out relatively fast. A cheap but satisfying dinner idea for big families. Check them out.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such genuine warmth and friendliness — the personal touch really stood out and made us feel at home. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Everything was clean and well presented, and having a good carpark on site made things even easier. We left feeling very happy and well looked after. Highly recommend! And we will be back
Very disappointing experience. The waitress was clearly undertrained. I booked a table for six, but she tried to seat us at a table for five. When I pointed it out, she suggested we split into two tables. I had to insist multiple times that we needed a six-person table. Eventually, I found my name on a reserved table myself — only then were we allowed to sit.
Then came the food. The beef fried noodle with flat noodle was made with thin rice noodle, not flat noodle. After I pointed it out, it was replaced, but the new dish barely had any actual noodle in it.
The $30 curry vegetable dish was especially disappointing. The photo on the menu showed plenty of cauliflower, and we ordered it specifically for the vegetables. What we got was just a plate of curry sauce with barely any vegetables and not a single piece of cauliflower. When I raised this with the waiter, he said it looked different because of the lighting — which was just laughable. One look at the photo and you’d know that’s not the issue. He offered to redo the dish, and the second version was served on a larger plate with a few extra green peas thrown in, but still no cauliflower. It was basically another plate of curry sauce. Charging $30 for that felt like a rip-off.
Overall, the food was bland and lacked authenticity. If you’re unfamiliar with Chinese food, maybe you won’t notice, but if you truly know Chinese cuisine, you’ll be seriously underwhelmed. This restaurant clearly doesn’t care about food quality or customer service.
We only use the takeaways, and they are great. Mum's favourite dinner selection and mine too. Good food at reasonable prices, the pick and mix bar is my favourite ! Definitely recommended !

Had a la carte dinner here with family and the food was quite good, believe the owners are from Hong Kong. Pepper beef, eggplant, green beans and mince, prawns all quite good cantonese cuisine. Decor is pretty old school but thats consistent with most good chinese restaurants 😅

Fresh Cafe has a pleasant atmosphere, and great coffee. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Good selection of cabinet food and a large order-in menu. One of my favorite coffee spots in central Whangarei.

When I move home Fresh Cafe in James St will become my local. Great coffee, excellent service & you’re spoilt for choice with their blackboard menu & cabinet food. I am also amazed at the affordability of this place, you can even get an extra slice of ciabatta with your eggs at no extra cost (challenge you to find that anywhere else).
On a personal note, I visited several times with a regular who recently lost his wife. Ella (apologies if spelt wrong) & her team took the time to offer condolences & a hug. What an unprecedented level of care. This made me a fan. ❤️

And the banana on top tasted so good I didn’t even have to use my maple syrup 😍 I was craving pancakes , I went in and was greeted straight away , told the lady’s “I’m wanting pancakes” and even though they didn’t have it on the menu Maata didn’t hesitate to make them for me , she says “I can make pancakes” 🥞😍🤩 it’s so hard to find pancakes freshly made here in Whangarei , I have now found my spot for freshly made pancakes ⭐️

I love this place! I recently relocated to Whangarei from the states and Biggie Bagels (specifically the piggie smalls on an everything bagel) has become my go to pregnancy craving. The bagels remind me of home and are so delicious and on top of that the staff are super kind and welcoming and service is top notch. Happy to have found this spot!

We had a pleasant experience at Lone Star Restaurant in Whangarei. The restaurant itself is nice and welcoming, though it was very busy and quite noisy, packed with families, groups, and a lively atmosphere.
The service crew was attentive and friendly, but they kept asking us if we wanted to order more, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable and pressured.
We arrived quite late and were one of the last to leave, so the place was winding down. We had already eaten a heavy meal earlier in the day, so we shared a large ribs platter, which was hearty and satisfying. Overall, the food was of good quality with generous portions, making it a satisfying dinner spot if you're looking for classic American-style fare in a lively setting.
Delivery from Lone Star the fish was not the star of the show.
Specifically, had discolouration. I’ve had fish with bits of this colour. However, this fish came in looking like a steak. It was mushy and had strong odour sour-like, ammoniated smell (fishy but next level). Unfortunately, transitioned to the meal as a whole.

The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. It really sets the seen of a western saloon. The service was top notch! The waitresses all greeted my table with a smile and constantly asked how things were going. The portion sizes for the food were also quite memorable as they could be classified as ‘bang for your buck’ leaving you feeling full and satisfied
We had a great night celebrating my sister's birthday. The staff were super lovely and accomdating. The food was delicious, highly recommend the platters. Recently moved to Te Kamo & returned to Soda. It has new owners & I absolutely love what they’ve done with the place.
There’s a great blackboard menu & fresh cabinet food. I love how they have baking not found everywhere else. The blueberry muffins are a gift from the gods & their open steak sarnie with caramelised onion is succulent and tasty.
The coffee is exceptional too, and I am fussy, so I always try that first.
Pricing is reasonable.
There’s lots of seating inside & out & they don’t mind dogs in the outside spots.
There’s an under cover part to the side of the cafe that’s lovely on a hot day - a nice balance of outdoors & breeze without the sun overhead.
The place is contemporary without being pretentious - and I’m already a fan of the staff.

Ive been here twice in the last week on a trip to Whangarei. Lovely friendly staff who greet you with a smile. They obviously know their regulars and seem busy with the locals but not overcrowded. Lots of selection for food in the cabinet and on the menu - something to suit everyone's tastes. I love the scones and the coffee was really good!
Im hoping I'll have an opportunity to try more of the menu next time we visit the area!
Stopped in to pick up some counter food on the way through whangarei. Had to get gluten free. Staff were helpful and friendly. Menu looked great. Want to go back and try some of the menu food.
We both order mince on toast and one order proached eggs well done which both were runny, both of our plates had water in it. We returned it and asked for a refund and the Chinese man charged $3 for one bite off an egg. The owner was rude and was reluctant to pay the full refund after much more dispute it was paid minus the $3 absolutely disgusting avoid this cafe!

Restaurant was pretty cool - a few blown / flickering lights - music was the hits & mixed in with a tv show playing in the kitchen - lady was nice, the edamame was lacklustre - pre shelled not in the bean and some of it was dry and cardboardy - entree was delicious, tataki was 10/10 as were all the salads - crunchy and fresh, the beef in the bento was awesome but the chicken had an unpleasant flavour to my taste - wife’s sashimi bento was great but both our tempuras were mostly batter - chocolate Sunday was yum. Will be back to try again tomorrow n future for sure

Been here a few times and is a nice quiet spot to enjoy some traditional Japanese food. Portion sizes are good for the price and the meals certainly beats the pants of the dozens of sushi shops that litter the city.
Had almost nothing we wanted available, but only told us that after we had ordered drinks already.. Then seemed quite hostile towards us when we told them we only wanted to finish our sashimi and not order anything else.
One of the few restaurants open on a Monday, Ezumi quality is consistently fresh, tasty and good. The Beef Tataki is divine, and so far has never disappointed. Really enjoyed the rest of meal and being a Monday with only a couple of guests the service was prompt and friendly. Will not wait as long between visits this time. Thank you.

We loved stopping here but unfortunately for this particularly morning, service we received was appalling. Drinks were on the counter, 1 customer took the drink to go sit down & was told to bring it back because she did not scan it. My question was why wait till he grab the drink. She looked as if she didn't want to be at work. I have worked in the hospitality industry & I have not seen such poor service until now. Yes you do get treated with disrespect but hey that does not mean you have to yell at your customers come on management where i worked that's an instant warning. If it happens again it's see you later close the door behind you incident.

Always a great experience and tonight whilst ordering online for pick up, my order timed out and hadn’t seemed to have gone through so I went through my order again. Within a few minutes I had one of their staff call me and ask if I wanted two of the exact same order or if it was a mistake. Super grateful they did that because they could have easily charged me twice but making a simple phone call really elevated their customer service. I wish I had got the servers name so I could make a personalised shout out!
Fresh, made to time of order. Salad was fresh and so good (yes we got a salad from Hells but it went with pizza and chicken tenders too so don't judge). Hells GF bases are YUM and hubby had chicken tenders + ribs which were slathered in sauce. So good.

I travelled for work from tauranga,,our accommodation was in whangarei on our 1st an last nite away..I heard the fish and chips were so nice so choose Adriatic fisheries as my go 2 place...I was not dissapointed..I was welcomed by a very lovely wahine...the service was very fast an plentiful..the food did not dissapoint,,,th burgers were generous and the fish was awesum,,the chips were perfectly done, I would go there again when I come back.. thanx again

This is the most disgusting meal I've ever had. I ordered five servings of noodles, and each one was this color. It's hard to describe the taste, but I guess it's a hybrid of Chinese and Indian cuisine, yet lacking the fragrance of either. The dish, which was supposedly Laksa, was filled with cabbage and mixed with 5-6 strands of noodles, each less than 5 cm long. I dare say they must have run out of noodles and used the leftovers to make mine.
Around' 4' o clock, my wife had ordered 'Singapore vegetarian noodles '.. She was very hungry after the shift duty.. Unfortunately the food was very disgusting and flavourless.. She was not able to eat please make sure that prepare food nicely and worth for the cost.. Pls..
Noodle canteen in Whangarei is a little gem of a place. When we visited to order takeout to take home the shop was Very clean and tidy. The staff are friendly, polite and very professional.
The food here is excellent and full of flavor. Apart from the selection of Noodles and Rice dishes that are the staples of All Noodle Canteen Takeaways, there is a huge variety of delicious food ranging from Roast Pork to Roast Duck, miniature spring rolls and steamed Pork Buns. There is literally something for everyone. There is a few Casual Dine in seats available, but not that many.

The food so yummy with affordable price for such big portion.
Since then, me and hubby everytime went to the centre, always grab some food from Noodle Canteen.
Also, the staff (the kitchen staff) so friendly and fun.
Many awesome meals to choose from. Recently had the duck with fried rice which was really nice. You also cannot go wrong with the Honey chicken fried noodle/rice. Oh, and the wantons are absolutely fantastic. Hot or sweet boxes are also rather nice. It's a great place to go when you can't make up your mind... Solves that problem every time.
Ok ordered rice with duck + BBQ pork but got roast pork instead and only 4 pieces of duck (mostly fat).
The fried udon with BBQ pork, chicken (special) was nicely flavoured with strong black pepper taste so overall a 4*. Portion sizes can feed you over two meals

Iced chocolate slapped but salmon eggs benny wasn’t it.
Never had cooked salmon on eggs benny, thin bread and hollandaise sauce was bland. Wasn’t enjoyable at all.

I really enjoyed my spinach and feta quiche with a walnut topping yesterday and flat white. Flat white was perfect temperature and quiche was a generous portion and very delicious. The girls there were absolutely lovely and one even offered me Panadol when I mentioned I had a headache. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Great spot to stop for a quick break.
I was happy to find this hidden gem upstairs in the stadium. It is in a lovely spot overlooking the fields with views out to the hills. The coffee and savory muffin were fresh and tasty. Other food looked delicious too.

Convenient Burger King located on Route 1 going southbound. Went in, ordered meals and Chicken. Korean Fried Chicken portions was too small. Its not enough portion for an American to be eating and after a small park hiking. Did not eat cheeseburger but the fires I shared with are delicious, better than Macca's fries. Design is meticulously beautiful on the inside part. Aioli sauce tasty as it is made out of free range eggs.

So much for fast foods and convient , at one point for about 15 minutes no food came to counter at all lots of people waiting and getting frustrating , after realizing people that had turned up way after me were getting their orders went up and asked and said oh your order here's so than packed it and I said I ordered a chocolate shake, he said no you didnt than looked at receipt , oh you did , I guess I can make that, yeah make what I order and payed for no need for attitude and like it's an inconvenience , chips and everything was just thrown into bag and all our food was cold , and a lot of peoples orders were messed up , only orders they cared about doing were Uber eats even the driver thought was not moving. Used to be fine before they did all recent renovations and lay outs now it's slow , we both finish work late and wanted to buy burger king as normally it's quick and convenient 5 mins top not this time , we could of driven home and still made dinner quicker or gone to a restaurant and had a sit down meal. Sort you business out not good enough , no apology for wait times or for messing peopes orders up . I feel like if I didn't ask would never of got our order . Worst experience ever. Never going back.

Absolutely terrible service from Thomas, who’s supposed to be a manager at Burger King. He was extremely rude, had no manners, and even slammed the window when we politely asked about our missing sauces and drink while waiting at the third window. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to deal with his bad attitude — it happens every time I come here. A manager should know how to treat customers with respect, but he clearly doesn’t. Someone like that shouldn’t be representing the company.
As I was exiting Burger King drive-thru, someone crashed into my car. My partner went inside to ask for the security footage for the police and Thomas (the manager) blatantly lied, saying there are no cameras showing the drive-thru. I used to work here, so i know that’s not true. Funny enough, the police got the footage 10 minutes later! Completely unprofessional behaviour, instead of helping, he chose to lie. Definitely not someone who should be in charge of a store.
Big boss, please fully retrain Thomas and his terrible attitude for a manager!

I really enjoy visiting Hospital Fish Shop & Takeaways, a fish and chips establishment that offers delicious chicken and chips. The customer service there is exceptional, characterized by generosity and kindness. I am certain to return to this shop in the future. Additionally, this place is renowned for its outstanding Chinese cuisine, particularly their fried rice and sweet & sour pork. Notably, one can always find families stopping by on their way home to indulge in these delectable dishes.
Best fish and chips in town wrapped in newspaper how it should be!
I've been coming here for about 2 years maybe more and the quality of the fish and chips is always consistently good. Fresh fish is lightly battered and cooked to order. They're generous size pieces and the chips are good old fashioned thick cut and cooked until they are crisp and golden!

Eat it straight out of the newspaper or take it home and you can make a quick meal on a plate with a fresh garden salad and tartare sauce!
A piece of snapper is $9 but they usually have a couple of other choices also depending on the catch of the day.

Queen Elizabeth ll had just been crowned, Elvis Presley was 'King,' we hadn't heard of 'The Beatles', the Auckland Harbour Bridge had not been built yet, it would be a decade or more before man walked on the moon, Milk Bars had Jukeboxes, Jukeboxes played vinyl records when you put a coin in. There was no such thing as the Internet or Social media platforms. Milk Bar Cowboy's gathered at Milk Bars and rode motorcycles, they were called Bodgies, Hector was a parrot at Farmers. There was no black and white TV until 1960. Phone calls were made from a red phone box at the end of the street. News was printed on newspaper. We saved the newspapers and gave it to the Fish Shops. We bought fish and chips on Friday's. Catholics did not eat meat on Friday. Newspaper kept it warm longer and it was always more interesting reading the paper while we ate fish and chips off it.
Fish and chips are quintessentially Kiwi🇳🇿 as the Buzzy Bee, Pavlova, Bluff Oysters, L&P, Lamingtons, Kiwifruit, Jandals, Marmite, Whittakers Peanut Slab, Pineapple Lumps, Phar Lap, Crowded House, Bungee Jumping, Swanndri's, Red Band Gumboots and Hobbiton.

Now my favorite dish and chips takeaways shop in Whangarei. Always great food. We like the sweet and sour pork, combination chow mein, bami goreng, wonton, egg foo yung, fried rice. The nasi goreng is also super-hot.
Great tasting food! But service is too long. I always order via phone call as I know ill be waiting otherwise. However even after ordering on the phone the other day it took 50min to get my Chinese meal. And other times I've ordered ahead I've always sat and waited for long periods of time. If you could speed up your service then it would be a full 5 star rating.

Unfortunately I had a craving for a roast meal and this one was the closest to my location. I ordered the Medium Chicken and two pieces of Fried Chicken.
Turns out they don't do Roast Chicken as my meal was just fried chicken. The vegetables didn't feel fresh and the chicken was soggy even though it was fried... Neither felt fresh.
Was very disappointed I didn't get Roast Chicken that I wanted.. I guess they don't actually do it despite the shop name.
Plenty of meat in my Lamb Roast meal. Potatoes, veges and gravy were tasty.
The roast was hot, the guy was rude on the phone, wish I didn’t buy anything, he got my order wrong, and it was basic, I don’t recommend at all..

I went here for a chicken sandwich (comes with lettuce and gravy). The meat and gravy was delicious (cut straight off a fried drumstick). It would be nicer if they used a better bread - just cheap white bread. But I wouldn’t expect more for $6. Also it said on the menu that it comes with salad but it was only lettuce. This should be clearer. The staff were friendly.
Roast lamb tasted more like Chinese stir-fry than it did lamb, and was very dry. Sandwiches were on stale bread, no Marge or butter, just old looking salad, and stale bread. Potatoes were alright, but cold. Chicken was good though. Reading other reviews, it seems what day and time you go matters to get the food hot and tasty. The meals were a decent size, but the quality of the food just wasn't there unfortunately.
Favorite go to for their delicious pork roast dinner. They do really good potatoes, meat is juicy and a bit of fat on it and a nice big piece of crackle YUM. The lady there is so nice and in my opinion best roast shop in town sort of shocked by the stars on this place lol

This place has been a family favourite for as long as I can remember. My nan used to visit this shop every Saturday and purchase Chocolate and raspberry donuts (that had coconut on the top) for our whanau to enjoy. I have always loved the coffee donuts and I am sure every trip back to Whg is a coffee donut for the road 😊😊😊

It offers a wide variety of locally grown produce, including elephant garlic, limes, olives, feijoas, and even pineapples during specific months. Visitors can also sample and purchase homemade chutneys, sauces, preserves, honey, and olive oil while enjoying the music from buskers.
Great variety of produce. We bought Avocado's, peaches, chilli seasoning sauce and a catnip plant. Good prices and some great music as you walked around. Heaps of parking.

I eat. Fruits and Veges and drink coffee . I shull out oysters when they be in season. I love fresh produce.and then home made cheese. I just bought some pepperoni salami. It tastes delicious. A cozy market. You will find all you need, and most comes so fresh from the field or from the garden. You can have breakfast and drink lot's of good coffee. It's only a pity that they start so incredibly early on Saturday.

Favourite Korean chicken place. Kids favourite place to eat whenever they choose somewhere to go. As a family of four we get the original burger meal each. The best burger and fries! Also get the boneless honey soy chicken, delicious as well. We call and order so we don’t have to wait because it can take about 15minutes. Consistently great food since they’ve opened.
