Koldinghus

Museum
Castle
Koldinghus, located in Kolding, is a remarkable cultural history museum housed within restored castle ruins. The castle has a rich and turbulent history dating back to the 13th century. Despite being partially destroyed by fire in 1808, it was rebuilt in the 20th century, seamlessly blending old and new architectural styles. The museum boasts an impressive collection of artifacts including the Christian IV collection, gold & silverware, Flora Danica table service, and princess gowns.
Again, grading on a curve based on location, but I had a 2.5 hour Layover at the train station and decided to visit this place which is a very short walk from the station. We'll worth the walk. The museum is very well organized and you can feel the history when your there. It use to be a royal residence from what I was told, among many other things. Great staff and they have lockers to store your bags while your visiting the museum. A little pricy, I think that I paid 22 euros, but it was worth it. Good place to visit if you have the time and it sits right next to a beautiful scenic river and walkway with benches to stop and soak up the view.

The restoration of this old castle is unique and worth seeing just for a completely different approach to restoring and protecting a heritage building. Definitely worth visiting.
Tom S — Google review
13th century castle on a hill overlooking the town and the castle lake. It is probably Kolding's most famous landmark. If you want to see the castle from the inside, you will have to spend a lot of money. The entrance fee is quite expensive. You can pay in advance online or on site at the ticket office.
Oskar V — Google review
Interesting mix of old and new architecture. The castle was partially destroyed in a fire in 1808 and was rebuilt in the 20th century in a way which preserved the original building but also clearly showed the modern parts. One of the highlights for us was the Flora Danica table service. Just amazing. The princess gowns were lovely. There was even the possibility to dress up as royalty yourself. There is a cafe on site. There is parking near the castle but the castle is also within walking distance from the center of town.
Marie F — Google review
Nice castle, the floral porcelain table ware was amazing. I also liked the replica clothing. The lace making looks very hard.
Mike P — Google review
The Kolding Fortress or "Koldinghus" really is an iconic landmark for the city, It being destroyed back in the 1800's has still had a good restoration. Overall it's a good museum and has a great view on the top with the Hercules Statue remaining intact, it's overall a location worth visiting if you're having a transit through the city of Kolding.
Salih Z — Google review
This was under serious renovation at the time we visited. Although looking back at the history it seems to have spent more time like this than not! Was a nice casual look around, the way the modern elements slotted into the existing fabric was nothing short of breathtaking.
Li S — Google review
Gorgeous building, impressive restorations and a fun corner to play dress-up. This is my second visit but there was a lot more to see than the first time.

Trapholt Museum for Modern Art and Design

$$$$affordable
Modern art museum
Trapholt Museum for Modern Art and Design is a must-visit for design enthusiasts, showcasing a diverse range of visual arts, crafts, and furniture design exhibits. Located in Kolding's residential northeastern outskirts, the museum features classic artworks from Skagen artists, vibrant modern pieces, and a sculpture garden. The ace furniture collection includes covetable Danish chairs by iconic designers like Hans Wegner, Verner Panton, and Arne Jacobsen.
Great place to explore with family, quite diverse things to see and some of the exhibition allow to be actually used, for kids especially the Nanna Ditzel space is awesome. Kids also get free entry, and parking is free - we spent 2 lovely hours there
Albert S — Google review
Local highlight. Exciting and engaging exhibition that are suitable for all ages. Beautiful location, garden and building. I can’t recommend enough if you’re passing through the area
Jesper E — Google review
The internationally renowned museum of modern art, craft and design, Trapholt, is situated in gorgeous surroundings by Kolding Fjord. The museum featuring paintings and sculptures made by famous international and Danish artists. Its a must visit place in Denmark 🇩🇰. Highly recommended.
Deepal S — Google review
Trapholt always puts on very interesting exhibitions and Feel me is well worth a visit. Daniel Wurtzel's piece Air Fountain in particular makes the trip exceptional but there are many other wonderful works included which means that you should go. If you have time and spare cash for a visit to the cafe then that's recommended as well. It may seem dear at first glance but you get value for money with good food and sizeable portions. Don't forget to grab a piece of cake if you have room for it (we didn't 😂). After lunch make sure you stick your head out into the lovely grounds which offer rich beds of flowers at the right time of year (we were there in July), and beautiful views of the sea all year round.
Grith S — Google review
I recently visited Trapholt in Kolding with my parents and my girlfriend, and despite not being someone who regularly visits modern art museums, this experience turned out to be a truly pleasant surprise. Trapholt is beautifully located near the water and has a light, open architecture that makes it feel welcoming and easy to explore. The layout of the museum is very visitor-friendly, and it was a joy simply walking through the space. Many of the exhibitions invited a kind of semi-interactive experience, which made the visit feel more engaging and personal. During our visit, we saw two major exhibitions: Michael Kvium – Skyggeteater (Shadow Theatre) and Mie Olise Kjærgaard – Agile Aggressions. Kvium’s work was, as always, thought-provoking and slightly unsettling, exploring the darker sides of human nature through dramatic imagery and strong symbolism. Mie Olise Kjærgaard’s exhibition, on the other hand, felt more abstract and experimental, and it invited us into a colorful and chaotic universe that was both playful and aggressive, in the best possible sense. One of the highlights of the day was visiting the Arne Jacobsen summerhouse, which is an integral part of the museum’s permanent collection. This full-scale house was designed by the famous Danish architect and designer in the 1950s, and walking through it was like stepping into a living design catalog. The house is a unique example of modernist architecture and functionalist design, with every detail—furniture, color palette, materials, and layout—carefully thought out. It showcases Jacobsen’s ability to combine simplicity with elegance, creating a space that feels both practical and deeply aesthetic. For anyone with even a passing interest in design or architecture, the summerhouse is an absolute must-see. All in all, Trapholt offered an inspiring and relaxed art experience that felt approachable even for someone not deeply immersed in the world of modern art. It’s a place I would definitely recommend—and one I wouldn’t hesitate to return to.
Villads T — Google review
Very nice museum, great exhibitions.
Karin B — Google review
A great experience overall. I went with no expectation and knew nothing of the current exhibitions. There was a good selection of art pieces and great variety in styles, concepts and shapes. The tour to the Kubelflex was also something I recommend as it adds to the visit. I spent 2 hours there and covered all available rooms.
Máté S — Google review
Nice visit at Trapholt. And a lovely picnic in the park around the museum, with an amazing view over Kolding Fjord. Our 11yr son also enjoyed the exhibition

Beautiful parklike garden with many options for walks, picnic, events, cafe area, animals like chicken and roosters, horses and goats, i recommend following on social media where they often post about plants and gardening seasons that is very teachable. I also recommend visiting the Kolding miniature city next to the garden, with entrance by the rose garden.
Mette A — Google review
Lovely peaceful garden tucked away in the suburbs. Well worth a visit if you want to escape for a few hours. Has a small cafe, clean toilets and a little shop. A trip to the adjacent mini-land is also worth a look. This can be accessed from within the Geografisk Have site.
Simon B — Google review
Place full of amazing plants , caves and mini city in which we got a tour which showed and explained how mini buildings are made . Animal section was my daughters favourite as she got to play and stroke baby goats . It's a fantastic place for a family day out
Klaudia M — Google review
A beautiful park where you can spend a great time. A lot of space to be on the lawn. You can play different games on it or have a picnic. There are also playgrounds, so parents with children will have something to do here. You can walk with dogs also 🦮 There is also a small greenhouse but incredibly beautiful Absolutely recommend ♥️
Sofia — Google review
Great garden with a ton of flowers and an amazing rose garden where you can eat your own food! Defineret worth a visit and there is even a small animal enclosure where kids can meet goats.
Eio G — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. Great place to spend time with your family and friends in summer. Great place for bird watching. There are many different types of flowers. Very well maintained garden. Highly recommended.
Deepal S — Google review
Geographical Garden - A mix between a petting zoo, park and a botanical garden. Children have free admission. Lots of child activities such as playground, Obstacle course, maze, 'mountain' caves to explore (a real hit). And a miniature model of Kolding from ca. 1800. Plenty of benches for your picnic in really beautiful surroundings. Visit the huge rosegarden. Trails around the park will take you through the various parts of the world shown through the plants from that area. Also animals such as goats, rabbits, horses and chickens. A trip around the entire park would take around 4-5 hours. Restrooms are a bit scarce.

Legeparken

Playground
Nature & Parks
Legeparken in Kolding is a delightful playground that offers an array of free activities for children and families alike. Nestled close to the city center, this park features numerous play stations, climbing structures, and swings that will keep kids entertained for hours. Parents can relax on the ample benches or enjoy a picnic at one of the many tables scattered throughout the area. You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks, with grilling facilities available for those who want to cook up something special.
Great kids playground for age 2-8 years. Crazy thing is, that there are no entry costs - it is all for free. Including the little paddle boat on the lake. There are bathrooms and even places available to sit inside if the weather is really bad. Great recommendation for all parents
David S — Google review
Large green area for families in Kolding. The park offers various play areas, lawns and a small lake. Children can play with pedal cars. The lake can be navigated by boat. The facilities are free of charge. There are also special pavilions for barbecues. This makes the park ideal for a family outing.
Oskar V — Google review
A free entry, nice play area for kids and adults. It has even a boating area, where the Kommune has emplyeed people for the safety of those who are going in boats 🛥️ Highly recommended 👍
Charith F — Google review
Small and cozy playground, parking area way to small, but other than that it was really nice. More restrictions for people smoking would be great, as it’s not cool to sit and eat picnic while people sit on the table next to us and smoke. It’s a family friendly place so I should not inhale second hand smoke and neither should my 4 year old son.
Sabīne V — Google review
Great compliments to the community and its volunteers for creating such a great playground, open to all. Many different activities including water sports keep kids occupied for hours on end. A small kiosk provides for some snacks, ice creams and drinks.
Mathis V — Google review
Such a beautiful park! So many attractions for children. Amazing place to walk in or have a picnic. Many swingsets and different climbing walls or setups for kids. Lots of benches to sit on. Caffe available during summertime. Really beautiful park that makes you forget that you are inside the city.
Mari K — Google review
Recommended to us by a friend. The kids absolutely loved the playground. Husband said the coffee and the food choices we had were a good deal.
Hannah P — Google review
It is a lovely little park near the town center, close to the Koldinghus castle. If you have a kid you should visit this charming place, because it is highly family friendly. You have a chance to boating for free and there are a lots of outdoor playing stuff there. Absolutely recommended!

It's a nice and quiet place to spend some time. They are taking really care about Miniby and you will see this. A nice older woman (she was rebuilding a small house) showed us some details im Miniby (Santa Clause in a window and a skelett).

Skamlingsbanken

Mountain peak
Sights & Landmarks
Monuments & Statues
Skamlingsbanken is a stunning area located in Southern Jutland, Denmark. It boasts the highest point in the region at 113 meters above sea level, offering a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. On clear days, visitors can even catch a glimpse of Funen Island from this vantage point. The site features a soaring 1800s monument and offers several hiking trails with picturesque paths, although the terrain is quite hilly and requires appropriate footwear.
Historic place with a good view all around. The museum was closed when I was there, so cannot review that. Several good hiking routes.

(Translated by Google) It's worth a visit. A historical whirlwind and a beautiful walk with fantastic views. There is a good affordable round trip that I think you should do. Unfortunately, I can't remember how long it took. I sat and enjoyed the view in several places. There are several marked routes. However, the signage slipped my mind about halfway through, at a parking lot, if you park somewhere other than Skamlingsbanken itself. But I have a paid app with walking tours, which got me back on track. Beautiful museum and café that serves really delicious lunch. Worth a visit.

Sights & Landmarks
Helligkorsgade 18 is a remarkable gem nestled in Kolding, showcasing the city's rich history as its oldest well-preserved structure dating back to the mid-1500s. This enchanting house, built around 1589, features a fascinating cannonball embedded in its wall from the First Schleswig War of 1849. The charming architecture reflects traditional craftsmanship and offers visitors a glimpse into the past.

Egtvedpigens Grav

History museum

Amazing history of the girl who was buried over 3000 years ago and found in the graveyard in 1921. Remainings are preserved amazingly. You can see her clothes and coffin in the pictures.
Merve C — Google review
Pretty area with large parking with the Egtved girls burial mound and a center containing information about the Bronze Age girl. She is housed at the National Museum in Copenhagen, but here at the grave site you can read more about her presumed personal story.
Michelle N — Google review
Nice experience with picnic tables for a nice lunch spot and learning a touch of local history
Maria L — Google review
How can one rate such a thing? The girl's story, and that of her child (assumed) must rate more than a row of stars, even if that story must be of our imagining, from the small amount of information, posted around the site and the atmospheric location. The exhibit was closed, probably because it is winter, I imagine. It motivates me to go to the national museum to view the remains.
Andy B — Google review
Nice archeological site about a girl, who was buried there in 1370 BC.

The Lutheran church, known as Saint Nicolas Church, is a stunning and serene historical site with significant cultural heritage. This old place exudes beauty and tranquility, capturing the essence of its rich history. The magnificent church stands proudly in the heart of a charming square in Kolding, adorned with intricate decorations that enhance the city's allure. During Christmas time, the church becomes a bustling hub for numerous visitors who flock to admire its splendor.
Sct. Nicolai Church is from around 1250 and the oldest church in Kolding, but only few parts of the original building are preserved. The present exterior is from 1885-1886, and the interior decorations are mainly from a restoration in 1753-1758.....so worth a visit 👌

Rafaels Restaurant

$$$$affordable
Italian restaurant
Banquet hall
As someone who is of Italian descent, I often approach Italian restaurants abroad with skepticism. However, Rafaels Restaurant turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The establishment itself boasts a charming and intimate atmosphere, with dim lighting and appealing interior design that sets a romantic mood. The service provided was exceptional, as the staff members were attentive, respectful, and eager to assist.
Walked into this place and instantly thought, yep, this is heaven… or at least how heaven would smell if God was Italian and loved garlic. The pizzas and risotto? Absolute magic — like they’ve been secretly hand-rolled by angels with a drinking problem. The pizza? Yeah, alright, it was sooo good. Honestly, don’t skip the pizza and don’t argue with me — you’ll thank me later.😉 We started with the risotto and, oh my god, what a way to kick things off. Creamy, soft, basically like eating happiness with a fork. The whole vibe of the place is great too — nice atmosphere, good service, not one of those restaurants where the waiter looks like you’ve personally ruined their day. Honestly, one of the best spots I’ve been to. If you don’t enjoy it, that’s on you. Probably means you don’t like Italian food, or joy, or life itself. Highly recommend. 😎
Sándor M — Google review
The restaurant is quite good, particularly the pastas and the risotto. The pizza was ok but I have eaten better and I would have preferred the pasta. They were delicious! The environment is nice and the service is great. The bureaus was also a fantastic way to start the meal. I recommend this place for good Italian dishes!
Tiago R — Google review
Very cozy restaurant! we were a group of six people and ordered different dishes including squid ink pasta, pizza, salmon risotto. The service was good, and the food was overall great. Our table was still reserved for us even when we were 30 minutes late on a Friday night.
Ann H — Google review
Very fine italien resturant in the centrum of Kolding. Got some solid italien food, but nothing over the top. The tiramisu lacked a bit of flavor, else it was nice
KlippeG — Google review
Great food; we had bruschetta, margherita pizza and squid ink pasta. We were both very happy with our food and struggled to finish because it was very filling. We took some tiramisu home and finished it before we could sit down. 10/10, would love to come again.
Tamina N — Google review
Italian restaurant in the city center of Kolding. The menu is clear and mainly includes pizza and pasta. The pizza is prepared in a traditional stone oven. My pizza tasted very good. The prices are - as everywhere in Denmark - quite high. I was able to pay conveniently by credit card. The team was very friendly and professional.

Restaurant Over Aaen

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Two families with children dined at Restaurant Over Aaen, where they ordered a variety of dishes including burgers, pasta, beef, and tapas. Overall, everyone was satisfied with the food. Personally, the tapas menu stood out as it offered a delightful combination of flavors in generous portions. The service was excellent and efficient, provided by attentive staff members. Thus, I highly recommend giving Over Aaen a try.
The staff was very warm, welcoming, and friendly. We got a table on the balcony, and the ambiance was perfect on a winter afternoon. We got the Rigatoni pastas with chicken, vegetarian, and shrimp along with the open toast creamy chicken. Food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place.
Nafisa K — Google review
I was really disappointed with the meal at this restaurant, especially considering the high prices and the great location. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. The juleplatte (Christmas plate) was a particular letdown. It tasted as though it had been stored in the fridge for a week—everything, from the dry, unsalted meat to the stale rye bread, was off. The crackers were soggy, and the overall quality was subpar. The tapas plate wasn’t any better. The pepper sauce had an odd, unseasoned roux-like flavour with whole peppercorns, and the Spanish omelette was cold and lacked freshness. Even the rigatoni pasta was only okay in comparison to everything else. The one thing that stood out, and it’s hard to get too excited about it, was the orange slices—they tasted like orange slices, which is about the best I can say. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a special dinner, I would recommend looking elsewhere. The combination of a nice location, high prices, and poor food quality is truly disappointing.
Vimal P — Google review
Better than most discount-restaurants. Very good wines. Food was good but nothing fancy. Wouldn’t mind going again though. Nice people works there and took good care of us. We had a 11-course tapas. It was decent but nothing extraordinaire.
Jesper E — Google review
Excellent, beautiful place, delicious food!
DJ C — Google review
For new years we went here. The vegatarian menu was awful consisting of, some mozzeralla and tomato, a avocado and a fake meat patty, not worth the 500 DKK Paid. The normal main was served at the wrong time, cold sauce and possibly meat that was too old or freezer damaged as well as mashed potatoes from powder, raw onion and mushy, cold, uncooked beetroot. Just awful.

The menu for New Years Eve was Amazing.. the service was so Terrific that we actually would recommend this place to anyone else. We sat at the terrace which was warmed up and could look at the water... ❤️❤️❤️ So so amazing 🤩

A Hereford Beefstouw in Kolding is a delightful steakhouse that promises an exceptional dining experience. With its focus on high-quality cuts of meat and an impressive wine selection, this casual eatery also offers grilled fish and refreshing draft beer. Guests rave about the friendly and attentive staff, who make ordering a breeze with their unique system. The food presentation is top-notch, ensuring every dish looks as good as it tastes.
A wonderful place to enjoy dinner. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The method to order your meal was unique and simple. Food was well presented and done without any complaints. The wait staff was more than helpful. Menus were available in Danish and English(if needed). The decor was well done and added a good “feel” to the dinner. I would highly recommend this establishment for dining if you are in the area.

The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was very good overall, my steak was cooked exactly like i had requested. There was also a very extensive salad bar that offered many fresh choices. The interior was charming, nicely decorated creating a cozy atmosphere.

We sat upstairs for a great dinner. Their salad bar is the nicest I've seen in Kolding. Very fresh. Steaks were very tender and juicy. The Raspberry Crush was a great addition to dinner.

Last thing you expect in fancy stake house is overcooked meat. Especially when it’s €71 t-bone… Oysters delicious, great desert, very nice service.
Diesel S — Google review
I’m not sure how they cook there steaks, but I would be embarrassed to serve that steak off of my own grill. My “medium” steak was gray in color with fake grill marks. I would not be surprised if this piece of beef went in the microwave. The Pepper sauce was good but should never cover the failure of a poorly cooked steak. Not worth the price.

24/05/2023 The staff was friendly, and the restaurant's location was beautifully situated in the heart of the city. Unfortunately, the flavors of the dishes were quite ordinary, and the meat could have been better seasoned. Considering the price of around 60 euros for a ribeye, you would expect a higher quality, but it was lacking in that aspect. The preparation of the meat was decent, but there was room for improvement. A piece of meat should melt in your mouth, and the fat should be well seasoned to ensure the meat remains tender and juicy. It was very odd to see miso soup on the menu, but it was a huge disappointment. You'd be better off finding it at a Chinese restaurant. The side dishes appeared to lack freshness and could have used additional seasoning, as they tasted somewhat bland. Everything seemed excessively salty, leading to a constant need for water.

Food quality was very very good. Also the service was amazing. The restaurant was in a very old building next to a historic old viking house from 1589! It was realy nice!

Amazing food. Both the steak and the chicken entrée. The smoked salmon appetizer was the BEST! Salad bar has extensive options. Went here 2 nights on a row! Highly recommended.

Restaurant Flammen

$$$$affordable
Takeout Restaurant
The optimal moment to visit Restaurant Flammen is precisely at 5pm, when it opens, as this allows for avoiding crowds and waiting times while ensuring that all the food options are readily available. However, due to the limited size of the buffet area, it can be challenging for patrons to navigate and serve themselves.
I’ve eaten at Flammen twice before and it never disappoints! The food is amazing. I’m not used to this quality at an all-you-can-eat restaurant, it is very good. Both the bbq’n meats, the sides and the salad bar are excellent. There is also plenty of options for the kids and they really enjoy being able to pick their own food. The prices are very reasonable and there are many different packagedeals and discounts depending on the day you visit. This new location also has a very large parking area. Will definitely come again!

Top! Selection of meat is great, and taste is fantastic. Nice crew!
Jakub G — Google review
The best time to visit is straight at 5pm when restaurant opens. You stay out of the crowd, no waiting and all food available. Otherwise I can't imagine how people fit in such a small buffet area trying to serve themselves. Variety of food is great, all meat we tried (beef, reindeer, salmon, chicken) was very tasty. Exception was kangaroo meat which was super dry (but this we experienced also in Flammen in Copenhagen). Staff is very nice and attentive:) if you can eat a lot, it is worth it.
Monika R — Google review
Very nice ambient to go with family and friends. The buffet with meat options is a must try for everyone, even if you don't eat so much as you can try a bit of everything you find interesting, from salad and side dishes to lamb and kangaroo meat. Depending on the day, you can also find special sausages, ribs and even grilled cauliflower from the grill. Personally, the pulled beef with their signature sauce is a must-try! Service is 3 stars only because it really depends on your luck with the cook from the grill: some only speak Danish, so tourists may struggle a bit.

First of all, call for a reservation, this place is very poulair, even during weekdays! This concept should exist all over the world, the finest of meat can be eaten here, how much you eat depends on you. From pork to kangaroo meat and everything in between will be sliced in your own portion by your request at the counter. Tender juicy meat is served directly from the flame grill. As an addition, you can choose from a variety of side dishes ready to be picked up on your way from the grill. Afterwards, if you're not full enough, you can feast on ice cream with different toppings to your liking. A vast variety of beers and wine could be ordered as well as soda. When you order a big cola, they will give you a big cola... be warned :)

Good Food, and a great variacity in the meat and salad area. Nice and smiling service. Prices have been turned up a nudge. Made a new review after they moved to a new address. Food, service was good as usual. But the speed at the buffet was to slow, there was now flow on the way they build the buffet. My opinion the buffet is placed in a wrong space of the restaurant. Liked the old adress much much more. Thats why i reduced a star.
Kim R — Google review
All you can eat Australian theme BBQ. Lots of different cuts of meats. Red ones as well as well done ones. They have 50 different choices to mix your salad, soup of the day, tartelet, 5 different types of potatoes, kids stuff like lasagna and meatballs as well as other hot stuff. Then there's always 3 different sauces, traditional Danish brown sauce, whiskey sauce and bearnaise sauce. Then the main attraction: 15 different meats. Cuts of beef, pork, lamb, and wild such as deer and hog. They usually also have exotic meats which change from time to time. Last time they had kangaroo which is surprisingly good, and my last visit they had zebra and crocodile (Not my favourites but interesting to try). Every meat is cut and served for you directly, and you can ask the waiters for more information about each cut. Really nice place, cozy, good service, and decent price!

Madkælderen Koldinghus is a truly enchanting dining destination nestled within the historic walls of an old castle, offering a unique atmosphere that enhances any occasion. Whether you're celebrating a birthday or hosting a wedding reception, this charming restaurant provides an unforgettable experience. Guests are welcomed warmly by attentive staff right from the entrance, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
Super nice place! We were celebrating a birthday there and the whole evening was amazing! Booked 2 weeks ahead. Parking is paid and plenty of space like 100m from the restaurant. At the arrival, there was a staff welcoming us at the gate! And showed us in! It’s located in an old castle! Makes the whole experience extra special! The restaurant itself is located in the basement of the castle. There was cava waiting for us! Staff is super friendly and not “stiff” so that created a perfect laid back atmosphere. They talked us through the menu and evening and then came with the first course. Food was beautiful! 4 courses, with wine pairing PLUS an open wine bar on the side! Had white fish, beef, nice starter with truffle bread and carrot cream and caramel cake for dessert. Fantastic experiences and some of the best price/value balance! Will come again for sure!

We visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy some authentic local dishes—and in terms of food, it definitely delivered. The cod was fresh and flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. You can tell the kitchen puts real care into the dishes, and we were genuinely impressed with the quality and taste of everything we tried. Unfortunately, the overall experience was let down by the service. After a pleasant first course, there was a long wait for the next dishes, which became stressful as we had limited parking time. We politely asked for the rest of the food to come, but the staff member we interacted with—particularly one lady—was noticeably unfriendly. She didn’t smile once during our visit, seemed irritated when we asked questions, and when we thanked her as we left, she didn’t acknowledge it at all…

One of my favorite restaurants in Kolding. Asparagus are very tasty. The perlehøn is plain, not super big fan of texture. Ørred is juicy and tender but the spinat is not my thing. Overall, service is good, I had better food here before but I appreciate the creativity of the food.

We chose Koldinghus as our wedding venue and Madkælderen for our dinner party after the ceremony. The entire evening there was a memorable experience to all guests and us too. Food left us speechless, the kind and professional service made us feel warm in our hearts and we will remember this incredible evening forever. All was eaten, all was fantastic and we will come back for more for sure. ❤️

Loud basement with no strong decoration points, food was more or less at level but not a strong taste experience. Price is really cheap compared to the offer. All you can drink is not an expected feature, which probably explains the 3 month waiting list. Lower end of fine dining

We booked a table for the buffet lunch at Madkaelderen last weekend and had a great experience. The buffet looks small initially, but there were actually so many different dishes to try, just in small quantities that are regularly refreshed to make sure the quality of the food stays high. It was great to try some local dishes and everything was really tasty. The service was fantastic too - the staff were attentive and accommodated all our wishes. They even let us open a bottle of our own champage to raise a toast with, which was really kind of them. I can definitely recommend the buffet lunch for a celebration. It's reasonably priced and the quality of the food is excellent. The atmosphere is well-suited to a special celebration too.

Tapas was delicious. The only thing - the waiter said, that restaurant has a big choice of wines, but we were not given wine menu. Waiter asked which kind of wine we prefer and brought a bottle of a quite expensive wine (we found out that it was expensive after the bottle was opened and we saw the price written on the bottle). Wine was good, but it was annoying, that first the waiter declared that choice was big but in fact there was no choice. Client gets no possibility to choose neither wine, nor price.

The bistro boasts an outdoor seating area that is always available, and the service is friendly and efficient. It is considered one of the best places to eat in town.
My wife and I had yet another great meal at this restaurant this afternoon. The two course meal was outstanding, the dessert was a whole ‘nother kind of good. We have been going to this restaurant off and on over the past two years. Always great (and friendly) customer service plus we have never had a bad meal… the food has never disappointed. Well Done to all at Den Blå Bistro!

We came here during mid afternoon and the place was almost empty but was one of the very few that was open. The prices were expensive for what we thought and for the city. The food was very tasty but just lacked a bit of salt. I got the vol au vent and it was huge so it paid the price. The service was friendly and professional. Just as expected. The inside looked cosy and inviting.

When we were there first time, it was good experience, but unfortunately we couldn't say the same yesterday, as we just wasn't sat. Very passive, sad-looking waitress didn't let us to choose the table, with no other options beside small crumbled tables in between of other sits, while absolutely whole place was empty. We are glad we could find another great dining option, but unfortunately we won't be coming back here, even though we thought it will be as good as the first time.

Bella Italia is a cozy eatery that offers a variety of Italian cuisine, including pasta, pizza, and grilled dishes. With a charming ambiance reminiscent of a traditional mom and pop restaurant, it provides diners with an authentic taste of Italy. The attentive and helpful staff contribute to the warm atmosphere, ensuring customers feel right at home. Notably, their Tiramisu dessert comes highly recommended.
Bella Italia feels like a small mom and pop restaurant, they do make sure feel like home in Italy, the service was great and the waitress who attended me was very helpful and recommended me the desserts “Tiramisu”. The dishes were great!! Sadly I don’t remember the plates that i had but i asure you that they where all delicious and perfect i every way. Don’t forget the Tiramisu that dessert was perfect. Fully recommend and coming back for more!!

The food was good and tasty. Would be nice to be more Italian, for example by serving pieces of bread and offering olive oil with the meal. Usually at Italian restaurants they give you some bread, free of charge, so I would definitely recommend the owners to add this little pro-customer approach. I didn't rate the service staff too high as I felt that the person who was serving us didn't have too much interest in the whole thing, he was rather in a hurry. In general it was ok.

Intense paint thinner smell is not the expected restaurant sensation on entrance. The waiter leisurely tossed a menu on the table and took his time to return to take the order. The spaghetti Bolognese was served without any parmesan. The shrimp cocktail appetizer looked like in the photo. Overall not recommended.

Billund Airport

International airport
Airport
Billund Airport (BLL) is a small-to-medium airport that mainly handles cargo and charter flights, but also offers scheduled passenger services. It has smooth bus connections to Aarhus and Billund itself, making it convenient for travelers. The airport is close to Legoland and the duty-free zone offers a good selection of products. While security is modern and passenger-oriented, some visitors have noted long queues at security checks and limited seating at the gates. Additionally, there are mixed reviews about restroom cleanliness.
Billund Airport is a nice and quiet airport with very few crowds, making the travel experience smooth and stress-free. The self-service check-in and boarding pass printing are easy to use and efficient. There’s a cozy coffee shop for a quick break, and the toilets are clean and well-maintained. Overall, it’s a pleasant and convenient airport, perfect for a relaxed start to any trip

The worst experience of my life! If you have a flight very early in the morning, you have to pay a crazy price for a hotel. Then take a taxi to come for registration. Or sit the whole night on hard chairs. It seems that they are specially made so that people do not sit too long. You can not come to the departure area. They simply will not let you through early. Everything here is terribly expensive. I think so, the goal is to rip off as much money as possible from gullible tourists going to Legoland and Lego House. .
Gyula B — Google review
I found the whole experience to be positive. It was very efficient getting through the airport. Because the airport is small, it does not take long to get airside. Not a large shopping and eating area, but enough to keep you occupied. Only one flight in and out of UK, which was fully booked but still efficient.

Pretty nice clean airport. Plenty of places to sit in and out of security. Security was pleasant, efficient and had no issues. Very nice Water fountains to fill your empty water bottles. Lots of interesting duty free stores to check out for souvenirs or European snacks/candy. Also a LEGO store right inside security with a very friendly worker! Nice bathrooms too. Interesting art displays at each gate as well and food choices while you wait. A few LEGO creations to see and take a photo with also!

One star or 0 star for the security experience going in, they’re very strict with liquid allowance and will make you repack in their clear pouch (zip lock bag) or have you check your bag in (or throw things out). There was one Asian short-haired lady who went through every single bag and pouches including some of my empty travel-size containers and said it couldn’t all fit in the clear bag I had. I wanted to try repacking my stuff to consolidate items but she wouldn’t allow me to touch the bag and told me to go back out if I wanted to try fitting things in, she then walked away with my bag and didn’t leave clear instructions on what I should do next. At some point when she was checking all my stuff, she told me I couldn’t touch my other bags that were checked already and I was left very confused standing there with no help trying to figure out where to go next. I find her comment about leaving my stuff there very strange because I’d just leave my things unattended and risk losing them if I walked away. Anyway, after waiting and asking around some more, I found out she took my clear bag and left it by the front area where we get the bins when we first walked in before getting scanned. I collected my stuff since I couldn’t just leave them there and took a couple of tries to find ways to get back out with all the security guards looking at me like I was a weirdo trying to get back out. That was such an uncomfortable experience. Once I got to the front, this other lady was just as mean and changed instructions to that I’d have to repack my things in a clear pouch she gave me or she would throw things out without letting me finish repacking my stuff :( I started combining some cream/lotion items and the lady commented that I was too slow, already spending an hour standing there, which was not true. I consolidated 2 things and that was more like 5-10 minutes max. She also said I would miss my flight if I didn’t throw things out (I was 3 hours early), I then asked her if I could go outside of the security zone to sort this out and again got a hard no with a very mean attitude… After some awkward pause, she rudely said to me I could either throw things out or I can go out to pay 78-80 dollars to get my baggage checked and not waste any more time standing there. Luckily I had free luggage check-ins with my flight (flying business for work) so I went and dropped that off. I don’t normally do that with my carry-on because they always come back broken… And of course, my suitcase came back broken this time as well :( Pretty upset this whole situation was a mess and the airport security was such a terrible experience. Making traveling so much worse than it needs to be. What would I do with a small bottle of perfume or a half-empty travel-sized face lotion? This overall experience sucked and they were both quite mean and rude, with this drama being so unnecessary. When I came back through security the second time, I picked the other line with a guy security and that went through fine with no issues. Much easier. So make sure to pick the side with less ladies to get a better experience. Do remember to take your electronics out and keep any liquid, gel, cream or paste in a separate clear bag, and hopefully, you’ll have a better experience there too. Tax refund is at the global currency exchange place (opposite from duty free) if you can find someone there, you can call on the desk phone if you need by the side. Getting krone/cash is probably easier if you want to just spend it on something else like snacks or LEGO vs getting USD/EUR with less money back from the conversion. Business lounge is up on the stairs. Overall I didn't have a good time at this airport and I hope I never have to come back again. I travel a lot around the world and this is the first time being treated with so much disrespect and such an unpleasant experience. Super disappointed coming from a place I enjoyed staying so much.
