Sønderborg Castle

Castle
Museums
Sønderborg Castle, originally built in the 12th century, is a picturesque brick-built waterside castle that now houses a cultural history museum. The castle's gardens and courtyard make it a charming venue for romantic weddings. The town of Sønderborg grew around the castle and is famous for its recurring Tilting-at-the-Ring event. Visitors can explore the well-preserved Renaissance castle overlooking Als Sound and enjoy scenic views from its tower.
Lovely building and lawned grounds around it. Well laid out museum. Very helpful cashier described the pamphlet which made it easy to follow and enjoy almost every room.
William H — Google review
Very friendly staff member at the ticket office who gave me a detailed rundown of the museum and it's exhibitions. The museum itself is interesting and well made, I loved the temporary exhibition on World War 1, the short videos with reenactments of actual experiencs soldiers had in the trenches nearly moved me to tears. My only complaint is that a lot of the exhibition (especially the temporary one) is in Danish only, which is a pity since there are a lot of Germans and non-danish speakers in general visiting
Proserpina — Google review
Awesome, needs about 2hrs to go through all 3 floors slowly
Jorge S — Google review
Sønderborg Castle is a wonderful place to visit — beautifully preserved, well organized, and offering great views over the water. The exhibitions are interesting and thoughtfully presented, making it easy to explore the region’s history. I would only suggest adding a bit more historical context or storytelling to some sections to make the experience even richer. Overall, a very enjoyable and worthwhile visit!
Samuel P — Google review
A quaint castle full of history. The kids had a wonderful time decorating their swords and crowns.
James C — Google review
I visited the museum with my danish partner and I was really happy I could visit it with him because not a lot was in English or German. So he basically did a lot a explained. So to me the price is a bit high for not understanding more than half of the rooms. The cafe is also nice. The costumes are however nice.
Zaza — Google review
We only walked around the castle, didn't go in. But it was beautiful from the outside.
Hanna T — Google review
I would give it more if there were more explanations in English.. With QR this could be done at low cost. Start with explanation about the room and then do the top exhibits and so on.

Deutsches Museum Nordschleswig

Mentioned on
3 lists
Museum
Specialty Museums
The exhibition at the Deutsches Museum Nordschleswig explores the German minority in Denmark. It showcases a range of artifacts, audiovisual documents, and interactive quizzes. The overall presentation is engaging and informative. However, it is unfortunate that the focus is primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries, neglecting earlier periods of history. Nevertheless, it remains an interesting place to learn about this cultural aspect of Denmark's past.
Nice place in treating history
Johanne L — Google review
The price is 60kr and there is no student discount which is still affordable. The museum has a new audio guide and you can follow the entire exhibition in English or German which is a plus. The guided tour is a real added value and it's nice that you don't have to pay extra for it. I would recommend spending 1 to 2 hours there. I really enjoyed discovering and learning new stuff about the German minority in Denmark.
Zaza — Google review

Universe

Amusement park
Museums
Universe is an amusement park that boasts both interactive attractions and scientific exhibits suitable for all ages. It features a water fun area alongside an industrial museum, offering visitors the opportunity to explore, experiment and play on its playgrounds. The park also offers beautiful gardens and surroundings to enjoy. Its VR experience is highly recommended, especially for gamer children. Although food can be expensive and dull, there are plenty of opportunities to bring your own supplies too.
We totally enjoyed the gorgeous display of flowers throughout the park. If it rains, there are many places to shelter. The kids have so many hands-on exhibits, which are totally engaging. There is one extraordinary climbing experience to be had here. There is a virtual reality area!
Karen K — Google review
It's a really nice place with a lot of things to do and explore. We had a lot of fun being there. We missed a lot of shows because of our poor timing and the language (some of them are in german). There's a lot of things to do for children and adults alike. We especially enjoyed the wind tunnel ( Beat the Storm) and the Sky Trail (the climbing area...beware of vertigo). It's a good place to visit 2, 3 times. After buying your way in, they will give you a bracelet with a chip encoded that will help you enter anywhere in the park. The restaurants prices are a little steep, but that's to be expected. The staff is friendly and helpful at any stage. You have the option to rent a small wagon for your children or your things, to carry around, for a 50 dkk fee. Most attractions have a secure locker room that you can open via your bracelet, so you can store your belongings while visiting. The parking is decently big, but I would still recommend coming in early. Get your tickets in advance so that you can benefit from 25% discount. [Furthermore, you get a 50% discount if you have a season pass from other attractions (like Givskud Zoo)].
Radu O — Google review
The park is very interesting and educational. However, the way how the park handle the visitors in virtual line making it super unfair for the visitors with regular tickets. At the Sky Trail, the employees kept letting the visitors in the virtual line to get in first whenever they showed up even though the people in the regular line had already waited there for more than 20 minutes (the regular line was not even long at all).
Carrie C — Google review
Great expectations and some of them delivered in plenty. Innovative games, quizzes and challenging engaging experiences for most ages. Unfortunately this day some of the biggest exhibitions were closed due to a faulty fireprevention system or other fault. There was a lack of communication from the staff as to why half of the exhibitions were closed due to this.
Jesper R — Google review
It's a large science park that kids can enjoy. Children can become familiar with different scientific concepts, play games, and have fun, while parents can enjoy the beautiful and green area inside the park. There are restaurants, ice-cream shops, gift shop, etc. It is a fun way to spend a day.
Ali — Google review
2025-09-14 - Visited with my wife and three daughters (age 9, 6 and 3). We had a great day with lot of fun. The park is best if you are more than 1,3 meters high as there was quite many attractions which only my oldest daughter could try… Bust still we had a good day!
Simon K — Google review
It's a nice place to spent a day with the kids. I would give it 4,5* if possible. The missing half star is because there were some experiments that where not working ( fire zone) and you should work on the soap mix in the bubble zone 😉
Dagmar W — Google review
I’m writing to express concern about an incident that occurred during our recent visit. While most of the experience was fine, we encountered a moment that felt disturbingly discriminatory. At the Skytrail climbing attraction, our children — who were clearly waiting earlier in the queue — were consistently overlooked, while others who arrived later were helped and equipped first. There was no clear order or number system, yet our children were skipped without explanation. The contrast in how other children were assisted — with attention and patience — was stark. A similar situation occurred at the Segway station, where one of the same staff members again seemed to intentionally avoid instructing or assisting our children, while being notably more attentive to others. Being treated this way — especially when children are involved — simply because of where we come from is unacceptable. We came as paying guests like everyone else, and no one deserves to feel ignored or unwelcome because of their background. Discrimination, intentional or not, has no place in any customer-facing setting. We truly hope your team will take this feedback seriously and address it with the relevant staff. Every child deserves equal treatment and kindness, regardless of nationality. Kind regards, Alla

That was amazing experience! Jacob, the museum worker, very dedicated and open person, aimed to share the information about the battle in the best possible way. He was very kind to translate the lecture from Danish to English. Moreover, he has provided a lot of interesting facts. So far, that was a great time. Recommended for families with kids and dogs:)

Came a bit late so I didn't get a chance to get inside but, the views from outside were just as amazing. Take a stroll and enjoy the cool breeze
Seraphine B — Google review
We were here because our old friend work as tour guide. Very interesting museum and we were learn about the history of the 1st world war between Denmark and Germany. The kids were enjoyed! Learn about the morse and old fashioned bowling. And beautiful views and the windmill.
Amelia S — Google review
It is an interesting historical place for the battle that happened here. Mostly for Germans and Danes. Even though it was back in 1864, there's a lot of information about who was fighting and who died. It was also the first time the Red Cross was there to help.
Flemming B — Google review
Historic place. Denmark and Germany in war in 1884. Very realistic place to visit. Definitely worth a visit also for families with children. There are lots of realistic buildings and exhibits. Once you have visited the place, you can go down to Dybbøl mill. Is it a summer day you visit the place, lies Vemmingbund beach, not far from there. A lovely beach
Morten W — Google review
Very interesting exhibition with lots of history about what happened in the months of 1864. Unfortunately it is a very small site and you can see it all in a few hours. But if you add some walking routes in the surrounding area to see the ancient battle positions it will take longer. Support history and visit this site if you are in the area.
Kaspar B — Google review
The guides make the experience. They are great at sharing the history in a way that appeals to both children and adults. Very much worth a visit.

Fantastic and fascinating guided tour! We did not know what to expect, but we were plesantly suprised. It's exciting and we learned a lot ! Definelty worth a visit !

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Gråsten Palace is a historical landmark that was built in the year 1759 and served as a royal summer residence. The palace is surrounded by well-maintained, English-style gardens which are perfect for leisurely strolls, especially during autumn when the scenery is breathtaking. The white building exudes an understated elegance which provides visitors with a refreshing break from super-luxury palaces. The gardens are adorned with numerous beautiful flowers and offer many picturesque spots to explore.
Beautiful castle and a must see garden if you are in the southern part of Denmark!
Eio G — Google review
Beautiful, free accessible gardens of the Gårsten Palace, summer residence of the danish royal family. The gardens are extremely well maintained and beautifully arranged. At every entrance there is a map including the additional kitchen gardens on the other side of the road.
Adam R — Google review
Like the idea of not super luxury palace area, instead nice green area with the beautiful old and white building. I recommend for a nice walk, in autumn was lovely too.
Atefeh J — Google review
Surrounded by a cool and quiet atmosphere! Excellent little lake behind. Unfortunately the palace was closed to the public.

Mommark Marina

Restaurant
Banquet hall
Mommark Marina is a secluded establishment that offers a variety of amenities such as a harbor, sandy beach, car park, campsite, and restaurant. Despite the development in the area, it maintains its natural and remote ambiance. The location tends to be windy, which can create noise for campers but provides a pleasant breeze for outdoor dining. The highlight of this place is its lovely sandy beach, which is worth visiting. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to embark on boat trips from the harbor.
Super quiet relaxing beach with a small cafe
James C — Google review
Nice atmosphere and stunning views. Minced beef with pickles well presented. Pickles quite spiky in taste. Staff attentive to allergy questions. A must see in the local area.
Soeren P — Google review
The food in the restaurant is wayyy to expensive for what you get. Crazy prices, even for Denmark. The location/view is amazing though. Staff was also friendly.
Lauren Z — Google review
Absolutely mesmerizing location right at the marina beach. I was with my friends to celebrate a wedding event. The buffet consisted of a mix of vegan and seafood dishes. The food served was very delicious and presented beautifully in a tempting manner, especially the vegan dishes, which were absolutely delicious. In the seafood section, we got grilled salmon, which was also equally delicious. The best vegan food I have ever had in my life was here. Plus, kudos to the owner, who was very patient and friendly in guiding us through the various dishes served during the event. He hosted the wedding party in an organised and efficient manner. Alcoholic drinks were also available. The service staff was also friendly and always assisted with a smiling face, which resulted in a pleasant experience. Do visit this wonderful location along the beach for the great-tasting food and the friendly staff members.
Shushanth K — Google review
Not a lot to review. There's a harbour, sandy beach, car park, campsite and restaurant. It feels remote and natural, despite the development. Gets some wind, so noisy if you are camping, and breezy if you're trying to eat outside. Lovely sandy beach is worth the trip though. Boat trips available from the harbour.
A ( — Google review
Excellent service with gluten free options. Creative and tasteful meals. I can’t comment on rooms because we didn’t stay overnight but the restaurant was lovely.

Dybbøl Mill

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Dybbøl Mill, a reconstructed 19th-century windmill in Denmark, houses a museum featuring exhibits on the area's history. It holds significant historical importance as it was the site of Prussia and Austria's victory over Denmark in 1864. The windmill may not stand out compared to others in Denmark, but the surrounding area offers lovely views. For a fee of 50 Danish crowns, visitors can enjoy a well-made small museum with souvenirs available for purchase.
Loved it. We were four girls visiting this place, and when they were gonna demonstrate the cannons, an employee heard us talking English and asked if there was anybody that only spoke English. Long story short the dude gave information about the cannon firing in three languages. He deserves a raise. (We think his name was Jannis? say hi to him from us if you see him)
SaraPhoenix — Google review
Very historically important place for Denmark. The windmill itself isn't that special compared to other windmills around in Denmark, but the area is lovely and the view is great. It was here Prussia and Austria defeated Denmark in 1864 and took parts of Schleswig.
Nikolaj T — Google review
A large windmill with a lot of important Danish history behind it. Free car park opposite, over the road. 60 kr entrance fee for the mill, which also has a comprehensive shop, selling 'Dybbøl Mill' labelled alcohol & beer, also ice creams, sweets & sodas, plus the usual range of gifts, trinkets and books. I was allowed a guide pamphlet in English, returnable when exiting, relating the history, battles & various owners and their stories. It is worth it, and interesting, and the view from the balcony halfway up is pretty good. Definitely worth the visit 👍
Nick E — Google review
Tickets required only if you want to see museum. Visiting flag area and outside mill is completely free.
Prashant S — Google review
a time we go on weekdays and in the cold. in a very quiet area. a simple and beautifully preserved building
Nurgul D — Google review
Nice bit of history about a time in Denmark history. Only had time to tour the windmill but we'll worth the stop and entry fee. Great views from the windmill and memorial hill.
Chad G — Google review
Renovations are going on in June 2022, so not much to see from the outside.
Ellie — Google review
A fine experience at a fine price, the exhibition inside Dybbøl Mølle is based on the historical battle between Germany and Denmark. The location is amongst the most beautiful views, in the flat kingdom of Denmark.

If you're wandering through Sonderborg and craving a taste of India, look no further than Curry Leaves. This delightful Indian restaurant has garnered attention for its authentic flavors and vibrant dishes, making it a must-visit spot in the area. With an inviting atmosphere and a menu that showcases traditional Indian cuisine, Curry Leaves is perfect for both casual diners and those looking to indulge in something special.
I and my husband celebrated Eid Dinner at Curry Leaves. We were amazed by the tasty food, great service and cozy environment. We ordered Butter Chicken and Tandoori lamb with naan. Both dishes had authentic Indian taste. We highly recommend this place for Indian cuisine lovers. It’s one of the best Indian restaurants we have tried in Europe.
Masooma A — Google review
Absolutely delicious food served here! I don't usually opt for the buffet in restaurants however, when the lovely lady owner showed me what was included in the buffet, I could not resist for 299 DKK! That includes a range of ice-cream flavours for dessert!Additionally, hygiene is to a high standard...each time anyone visits the buffet, they must use a new plate, not the used plate, which is what has typically put me off buffets. If I lived here, I would visit this restaurant more often but I don't 🫤 Do try it! Be adventurous! You won't regret it! 😋
N G — Google review
My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at Curry Leaves and enjoyed their delightful buffet. As vegetarians, we were pleased with the wide variety of options available. The food was fantastic — perfectly seasoned and balanced, with sweet, pickled, and spicy sides that complemented each dish beautifully. The service was excellent; we were warmly welcomed upon arrival, given a clear explanation of the buffet, and checked on attentively throughout our meal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely be returning!
Daniel A — Google review
Food here was really good. There is a lot of varieties available here. Makes you really full😋. The owner and the staff there are very welcoming. A good place to dine-in if you want to eat to the fullest🙂
Rowland S — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed a very special dinner here! The food and service went way above our expectations. We managed to make a reservation despite not having cell service for the restaurant to call us on to confirm, but they nevertheless honored it. We expected a regular Indian buffet but were totally surprised and impressed by the through verbal overview of all the food. When I let them know I had an allergy, they checked with the cook and owner (the matriarch of this family restaurant!) who made especially sure I knew which food items were ok to eat. Later in our meal, she came out to say hello and to ask if I wanted to try a lamb dish that she would make special for me without my food allergen. 🥹 Even though I'm typically not a fan of lamb, I have to admit, the dish was incredible. We also ordered an Indian zinfandel, our first experience with Indian wine, and it was pleasant! The rest of the food we had in Denmark was quite bland and overcooked, but everything we ate at Curry Leaves was impeccable, flavorful, and delicious. Don't shy away because it's a buffet; they cook food in small batches and replenish frequently!! Thank you to the lovely family owners for your kind hospitality.

Lovely Indian restaurant located in Sønderborg. Highly recommend. Service and atmosphere are an absolute 10. Welcoming and friendly staff. Great place to bring friends and family. Food was incredible. There’s variety and options for different dietary needs and preferences. Very considerate staff of both allergies and intolerances. Super kind and friendly staff who will walk you through the different options in the buffet and the spice level of each dish. There’s something for everyone. I went there with my brother and grandmother for her birthday. Once mentioned, they brought over a flag to our table and later in the evening came with a free surprise dessert. Again, just incredible staff. Overwhelmingly positive experience

Best Indian Food I've had in Europe. We went for the buffet option and we loved it. The food was made in small portions and frequently refilled. The service was friendly and explained us the different dishes, spice level etc. They clearly love what they do. The buffet also had a great selection for vegetarians.

Italian restaurant
Hotel Bella Italia is a charming and intimate retreat that offers guests a delightful experience with its spacious accommodations, complimentary breakfast, and convenient free parking. While the rooms are modern and comfortable, some amenities like the room safe and kettle may need attention. The hotel features an inviting Italian restaurant where you can indulge in delicious pasta, pizza, and salmon dishes in a cozy atmosphere. Guests have praised the friendly staff who provide warm welcomes and attentive service throughout their stay.
Everything was fine. We had also a wineglastasting before dinner.. We spent a nice evening there!
Bernhard B — Google review
The room itself was great very spacious but the room safe didn't work and there wasn't a kettle. There was a coffee machine but no cups or instructions. There was no reception to check in and we reported three problems but only one was resolved.
Josephine T — Google review
Travellers be aware! Hotel Bella Italia in Sonderborg has stylish and glossy photographs on booking.com and its own website but they are misleading. Especially for room No. 102, a junior suite, and room No. 101, a standard room. These rooms are on street-level and face the terrace where guests are eating, drinking and talking and anyone who passes by can see easily inside the rooms. The rooms are described as bright and light but since they do not offer any privacy, guests have to close the blinds and that makes the rooms gloomy and dark. Interestingly enough, there are no blinds in the bathroom and the windowpane is only covered with a film that is not opaque enough to give one the privacy that one would hope for in a bathroom. The description of the rooms on the hotel's website or booking.com does not even hint that there are at least two rooms of that kind. We would have never booked a room where one feels like being put on display.

Very nice and modern hotel. The staff was very nice and the breakfast was good. The hotel also had enclosed parking which was good, but watch out for birds that might poop on your car. Highly recommend the on site resturant.

Warm friendly welcome, nice room (but with steep stairs to separate bedroom) and delicious Italian dinner.

It is a cozy restaurant in sønderborg. We order pasta, pizza and a salmon dish and we liked them all. Great food, nice staff and a cozy environment. A must visit restaurant in sønderborg.

We were about 20 people, i had a reservation and pre order, because me and my girlfriend married in denmark. We decided to eat at the restaurant of bella italia because of the good ratings. We arrived at 5 like we agreed with the restaurant before. The waitress was stressed. Really stressed. She forced us to order, ran up and down and continued forcing us to order even though not everybody was on their seats. I told her to wait 5 minutes everybidy have to sit down and then we will order our drinks because for the food i had a pre order. She told us to leave at 7. No she forced us to leave at 7. I paid 750 euro (around 5600 krones). The ambiente was good but the waitress (blond-red hairs) was so stressed and create an uncomfortable atmosphare i have never seen in my life before. I used to be a waiter/barkeeper for around 10 years and even when you have a bad day you have to be friendly and kindly to the customers. You have to no matter what happens. But we was feeling like worthless customers on a very important day in our life. Its sad but i have to tell you so maybe in the future she will change her behaviour to other potencial wedding customers because it is simply wrong what she did.

Torve-Hallen

$$$$affordable
Eclectic restaurant
Torvehallen is a delightful dining destination that promises an unforgettable experience. Nestled in a vibrant area, this restaurant boasts stunning views that enhance your meal. Guests rave about the top-notch kitchen, with standout dishes like their amazing pizza and juicy burgers. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, making it perfect for a night out. Friendly staff ensure excellent service, even during busy times, and the food arrives promptly without compromising on quality.
If you go with a reservation in advance, you can find a table by the window. The place is usually crowded. Sonderbørg is the most affordable and delicious place by the lake. While other establishments close at 17:00, this place is open. The food was delicious, they have employees who can speak many languages. You don't have any difficulty communicating.
HELIN A — Google review
Torve-Hallen in Sønderborg makes some really, really good food. The pizza is amazing – honestly one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Thin, crispy, flavorful, just really well made. The pasta is also excellent, rich and tasty, something I’d happily come back for. The burger, on the other hand, wasn’t for me. It felt quite standard and nothing special compared to the pizza and pasta. Not bad, just not on the same level. The location is great, right by the water, and the atmosphere is really nice, especially on a good day. All in all, a very good experience. For me the pizza and pasta alone make it worth a visit.

very rude service. we had a table reservation and asked if we could be seated at the free table at the window. We got a very rude reply - no this is not possible...this is reserved. the restaurant was 2/3 empty and also this table stayed empty until we left. we had a very small table with a fantastic view into the kitchen.her bad behaviour continued ..... We came to Denmark again because of the nice people and the nice views towards the sea.... no nice people here and only views into the kitchen. The quality of the food was ok, but the way this lady treated us is unacceptable. (maybe she had a bad day, but we only came here to have a good time)

Great food and alfresco (if desired) dining with a delightful view of the water. I had the module frites which were perfect.

The restaurant was quite crowded, but they’ve still found a place with a wonderful view! The staff were very friendly and kind. The food was spectacular and quite fast made. For the price the food was really delicious! As they would say it was very hygge!

Wonderful restaurant. We went on a Saturday evening well before 6 and got a table without reservation. (People who came later without reservation had to wait). We had the two vegetarian pastas and they were both delicious - especially the one with truffles. The chocolate mousse was excellent too. The staff were very friendly. Seating is on two floors and the upper floor has interesting murals. The ambience was great. Would recommend.

Food was really good. It’s better to prefer dining in through early reservation. Attracts a lot of crowd🙂

Ive visited this place twice now with the past year. One time i got a burger and the other a pizza. Both were great. Although i recommend the pizza. It was simply amazing. Customer service is fantastic and food is great. What else could you want from a night out. In my opinion this place is better than 90% of the cafes in Sønderborg. Also, the view is great. But i didnt book ahead of time the 2 times i have visited unforuntately. So our view was not the best. But completely my fault. If you want a good view reserve a table and askk for a window spot. They plenty of vegetarian food so my girlfriend was happy. Great place, highly recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Sonderborg, Marcello's is a delightful dining destination that offers a classic café menu featuring an array of sandwiches, burgers, and fish dishes. The generous portion sizes are sure to satisfy even the heartiest appetites. Guests rave about standout dishes like Stjerneskud and Vesterhavsplate, both praised for their delicious flavors. While service can be inconsistent at times—with some staff being exceptionally attentive while others may overlook details—the overall experience tends to shine through.
We were able to book Marcellos Sønderborg at short notice for dinner with a group of 46 people. After ordering in advance at lunchtime, we received our dishes quickly. The table service was extremely professional: very friendly and very fast. And the food was wonderfully prepared and very tasty. We had an extremely pleasant stay. Absolutely highly recommended für groups.

The steak was one of the best I’ve had in a long time at a restaurant. Cooked perfectly. Well seasoned. Bearnaise sauce was tasty. It was on the expensive size and the steak size was quite small, but the quality made up for it. Service was friendly and efficient.

Moules frites were horrible, dry and overcooked. Had their cheesecake that was advertised as coming with strawberries and chokolade sauce but came with one (1!) very small strawberry and a decorative squeeze from a bottle of store bought chocolate sauce. Not impressed!
Rasmus A — Google review
Fantastic location in the very center of Sønderborg, the menu is a typical Cafe menu with sandwiches, burgers fish plates etc. The portions are huge and more than I could finish. We had the Stjerneskud and the Vesterhavsplate which were both delicious. The service is hit n miss, a few servers are outstanding, and others forget uou, don't know how to receive Euro, or don't know how to spell items on the menu you asked to get removed.

Værftet - Anker’s Restaurant

Restaurant
Værftet - Anker’s Restaurant is a delightful spot that truly shines when it comes to hosting events and providing an exceptional dining experience. Recently, a summer party for 63 guests was held here, and everything from the food to the service was impeccable, even with unexpected delays due to traffic. The restaurant offers a concise menu featuring freshly prepared dishes that are sure to please any palate; while there may be room for more fish options beyond plaice, the quality remains top-notch.
We enjoyed today the Herrings Buffet and were not disappointed. A wide range of herring, a few side salads, dark bread and butter to make our own Smørrebrød - all very tasty. We felt welcome from the first moment, the atmosphere inside the restaurant is very cosy and the service was excellent. The waitress was really friendly and has obviously not "only done her job". We will definitely come back next time we will stay here in Rendbjerg. Highly recommendable.

(Translated by Google) We visited with our dog without a reservation on a Sunday. We received a very warm welcome and were able to choose a free table inside or outside. The atmosphere was immediately very informal and welcoming. We opted for the late summer menu (salmon with ratatoulli) and were absolutely delighted. Food intolerances were taken seriously and accommodated. The food was amazing. Very, very tasty and generously sized. The owner was always on hand and made us feel very welcome with her charming and witty manner. Since we're on vacation nearby, we'll be back next Sunday.

(Translated by Google) Another lovely restaurant with a harbor view. After being taken over by Ankers, Værftet is once again a place worth visiting. The menu is very clear (it's best to check out the website beforehand), and that's a good thing. The dishes I've eaten so far have been excellent. Great Wienerschnitzel! And the seasonal menu was also very tasty. The house beer is also very good. Reservations are recommended, but I've been there without one before and was kindly informed that there might be a long wait, which didn't affect me. If you're in Minde, you shouldn't miss a visit.

Good restaurant for everything related to meat. I had a classic burger and it was good. It was tasty, not dry and good size. The thick fries were also good, I liked it. Staff was friendly and they also spoke perfect German (I don’t speak Danish). Serving in general was not the fastest, but also not super slow. Overall I think it’s a good place. Perfect for families as well. Kids get a balloon and they have kids menu which looked very good.

The steak is fine. The sides to choose from are fries. One dish comes with potatoes cooked a different way, and there's one sauted veggie side. I didn't want to risk oily veggies so i got the fries and gave them away. Salad bar is not worth it. I was there for a family event, and next time this happens ill try to order steal a la carte

Usually it's really good, but this time the meat was raw. I love the ribs there, they are always so good and tasty, but this time they were raw, they were literally red on the inside... alongside all the other meats. It's a buffet and costs 178 DKK per person (07.2022). The price is really good and the restaurant is spacious. The staff are also nice. There are a lot of choices to put on your plate, most of which are nice. However, it is not exactly Chinese food, it's more like an international grill and fruit bar. Transportation in Soenderborg

Getting around Soenderborg can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

Billund Airport

International airport
Airport
Billund Airport (BLL) is a small-to-medium airport that mainly handles cargo and charter flights, but also offers scheduled passenger services. It has smooth bus connections to Aarhus and Billund itself, making it convenient for travelers. The airport is close to Legoland and the duty-free zone offers a good selection of products. While security is modern and passenger-oriented, some visitors have noted long queues at security checks and limited seating at the gates. Additionally, there are mixed reviews about restroom cleanliness.
Billund Airport is a nice and quiet airport with very few crowds, making the travel experience smooth and stress-free. The self-service check-in and boarding pass printing are easy to use and efficient. There’s a cozy coffee shop for a quick break, and the toilets are clean and well-maintained. Overall, it’s a pleasant and convenient airport, perfect for a relaxed start to any trip
Sabur S — Google review
The worst experience of my life! If you have a flight very early in the morning, you have to pay a crazy price for a hotel. Then take a taxi to come for registration. Or sit the whole night on hard chairs. It seems that they are specially made so that people do not sit too long. You can not come to the departure area. They simply will not let you through early. Everything here is terribly expensive. I think so, the goal is to rip off as much money as possible from gullible tourists going to Legoland and Lego House. .
Gyula B — Google review
I found the whole experience to be positive. It was very efficient getting through the airport. Because the airport is small, it does not take long to get airside. Not a large shopping and eating area, but enough to keep you occupied. Only one flight in and out of UK, which was fully booked but still efficient.
Keith H — Google review
Pretty nice clean airport. Plenty of places to sit in and out of security. Security was pleasant, efficient and had no issues. Very nice Water fountains to fill your empty water bottles. Lots of interesting duty free stores to check out for souvenirs or European snacks/candy. Also a LEGO store right inside security with a very friendly worker! Nice bathrooms too. Interesting art displays at each gate as well and food choices while you wait. A few LEGO creations to see and take a photo with also!

One star or 0 star for the security experience going in, they’re very strict with liquid allowance and will make you repack in their clear pouch (zip lock bag) or have you check your bag in (or throw things out). There was one Asian short-haired lady who went through every single bag and pouches including some of my empty travel-size containers and said it couldn’t all fit in the clear bag I had. I wanted to try repacking my stuff to consolidate items but she wouldn’t allow me to touch the bag and told me to go back out if I wanted to try fitting things in, she then walked away with my bag and didn’t leave clear instructions on what I should do next. At some point when she was checking all my stuff, she told me I couldn’t touch my other bags that were checked already and I was left very confused standing there with no help trying to figure out where to go next. I find her comment about leaving my stuff there very strange because I’d just leave my things unattended and risk losing them if I walked away. Anyway, after waiting and asking around some more, I found out she took my clear bag and left it by the front area where we get the bins when we first walked in before getting scanned. I collected my stuff since I couldn’t just leave them there and took a couple of tries to find ways to get back out with all the security guards looking at me like I was a weirdo trying to get back out. That was such an uncomfortable experience. Once I got to the front, this other lady was just as mean and changed instructions to that I’d have to repack my things in a clear pouch she gave me or she would throw things out without letting me finish repacking my stuff :( I started combining some cream/lotion items and the lady commented that I was too slow, already spending an hour standing there, which was not true. I consolidated 2 things and that was more like 5-10 minutes max. She also said I would miss my flight if I didn’t throw things out (I was 3 hours early), I then asked her if I could go outside of the security zone to sort this out and again got a hard no with a very mean attitude… After some awkward pause, she rudely said to me I could either throw things out or I can go out to pay 78-80 dollars to get my baggage checked and not waste any more time standing there. Luckily I had free luggage check-ins with my flight (flying business for work) so I went and dropped that off. I don’t normally do that with my carry-on because they always come back broken… And of course, my suitcase came back broken this time as well :( Pretty upset this whole situation was a mess and the airport security was such a terrible experience. Making traveling so much worse than it needs to be. What would I do with a small bottle of perfume or a half-empty travel-sized face lotion? This overall experience sucked and they were both quite mean and rude, with this drama being so unnecessary. When I came back through security the second time, I picked the other line with a guy security and that went through fine with no issues. Much easier. So make sure to pick the side with less ladies to get a better experience. Do remember to take your electronics out and keep any liquid, gel, cream or paste in a separate clear bag, and hopefully, you’ll have a better experience there too. Tax refund is at the global currency exchange place (opposite from duty free) if you can find someone there, you can call on the desk phone if you need by the side. Getting krone/cash is probably easier if you want to just spend it on something else like snacks or LEGO vs getting USD/EUR with less money back from the conversion. Business lounge is up on the stairs. Overall I didn't have a good time at this airport and I hope I never have to come back again. I travel a lot around the world and this is the first time being treated with so much disrespect and such an unpleasant experience. Super disappointed coming from a place I enjoyed staying so much.
