Museums
Skagen Bunkermuseum is a historical museum located in a German bunker from World War II. The museum showcases an impressive collection of uniforms and weapons, offering guided tours to visitors. It's a fascinating piece of history that is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. Despite the small entrance fee of 50 kr, the museum offers interesting relics from the war era for enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
A nice little museum. With some interesting exhibition items. All another bunkers around the area are not open to the public. Privately owned and funded! So make sure to visit in order to keep places like this alive!
Qwen T — Google review
Not bad, but it's only 5 rooms with mostly Danish explanation, there is very little on English, ticket is not worth it for such a fast seeing.
Nenad P — Google review
Interesting place to visit……shame to ponder on the reason for these bunkers to have been built in the first place. I’ve seen their like in Normandy and other places around the world but I don’t believe that the Skagen bunkers should still be here as they are an eyesore all covered in graffiti and bricked up. They overlook an excellent vista of 2 seas meeting and also a small seal colony on its beach.
Peter M — Google review
Visiting this WWII medical bunker-turned-museum is a very interesting experience. It's not big, but there are a lot of info boards to read and it's definitely possible to take your time there if you're interested in WWII history. The restored office/barracks room and the letters from Montgomery about D-day were the most interesting exhibits for me. It's also possible to see numerous other bunkers along the shore nearby, which are slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
Intrepid D — Google review
Pretty basic. Missing a good overview of the bunkers nearby. Lot from the D-day but is it relevant? Some nice info on the construction and a gun collection.
Henning P — Google review
A great place to learn some history. Lots of genuine artifacts including an MG-42. Many bunkers to see here.
Tim S — Google review
Contains several declassified Allied documents about Normandy and D-Day, in general, handful of Wehrmacht and Allied weapons. It's a quick visit, lacks information about the Skagen region of the Atlantic Wall. Value for money, if you are an WW-II enthusiast.
Omkar J — Google review
Great if you want to get to know more about skagen and what happened there

Grenen

Mentioned on
2 lists
Grenen, located in the northernmost part of Denmark, is a stunning sandbar where the North Sea and Kattegat Sea meet in a spectacular clash of waves. The area boasts pristine white beaches, clear but chilly waters, and picturesque Scandinavian architecture. It's best explored by car and dressing in layers is recommended due to the coastal proximity. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of sand dunes, numerous ships at sea, and a charming lighthouse that provides great photo opportunities.
incredible experience standing at the northernmost tip of Denmark, watching two seas merge. the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, and the sunset scenery was almost otherworldly. even spotted a baby seal. so beautiful :)
Barbara M — Google review
This was our second visit to this beautiful part of Denmark. We arrived by cruise ship in to the stunning town of Skagen. Grenen is a must see when in the area. We hired bikes from Skagen and cycled out to where the gift and cafe shop is and walked the rest of the way along the beach to where the two seas meet. Magical place.
Paulene G — Google review
An unforgettable experience — Grenen, where two seas meet, is truly one of nature’s wonders. Watching the waves from the North Sea and the Baltic Sea collide is mesmerizing and humbling at the same time🦭The ever-changing colors, the wind, and the sound of the sea create an atmosphere that feels both powerful and peaceful. A must-see destination for anyone visiting Denmark — raw, breathtaking beauty at its finest 🌊🇩🇰
Evelina V — Google review
It's very busy here. A long walk to the point. Take towel if you are going to paddle. Pay for parking before you walk. A small land train is available.
Dion F — Google review
Interesting ride out to the northernmost point of Denmark. The wind was very blustery and the waves agitated, but it made for some interesting scenery.
T D — Google review
Visiting the meeting point of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip 🌊✨. After parking the car, you have two options: • Either take the tractor-pulled bus for a small fee, which is quick and easy. • Or, go on foot and walk about 20–30 minutes along the beach. I chose to walk, and I’m glad I did. The path itself is beautiful, with fresh sea air, soft sand under your feet, and the sound of waves guiding you along the way. It gave me time to slow down, reflect, and fully enjoy the atmosphere. When you finally arrive at the tip, the view is simply magical: two seas meeting, their waves colliding and creating patterns that seem almost unreal. Watching the Baltic Sea and the North Sea crash into each other is a rare and mesmerizing sight that makes you stop and just take it all in. If you enjoy nature, peaceful walks, and unique landscapes, this is absolutely worth the visit. Highly recommended! 👍
Ahmed A — Google review
Amazing experience to visit on the top of Denmark and incredible to see the place where two seas meet the water was warm and so clean its touristic area so its crowded to walk from car park apx. 30 min but u can get in sandormen bus/40 kr per person for round trip just buy tickets from machine or kiosk 🙌🏻
Seyda G — Google review
Lovely beach, well worth a visit. Plenty of parking for cars , buses and Motorhomes aswell as a cycle track leading all the way from Skagen. "Sandworm" tractor and trailer then take you from the car park to the end point of the beach. This can be paid for as either one way or a round trip.

Skagen Lighthouse

Skagen Lighthouse, known as the second-tallest lighthouse in Denmark, is a must-visit for anyone exploring this picturesque coastal town. Located just a short distance from Grenen, it stands proudly 4 km northeast of Skagen and offers visitors an opportunity to delve into its rich maritime history. The lighthouse is not only an iconic landmark but also features a migratory bird center, making it a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts.

Råbjerg Mile is a massive sand dune covering 2 square kilometers, making it the largest migrating dune in Denmark and the largest of its kind in Europe. Situated between Skagen and Frederikshavn, this desert-like landscape offers a unique hiking experience with diverse fauna and stunning views. Visitors can hike to the top for panoramic vistas of the surrounding area, including seas on both ends.
This caught us with surprise, it’s like a dessert out of nowhere, super fun to walk/run/slide , kids enjoy a lot, though it was in spring and the temperature around 5C , we did manage to have fun, but would definitely love to go there in early summer. There is parking for all kind of vehicles, There are no toilets near by, And there is a lot of walking to do. A must visit place if you are around skagen area.
NKN 1 — Google review
Wonderful surprise in middle of greenland. With nice sunny weather and strong wind we were like on Arrakis from Dune books/movies :-) It's really nicely photogenic place and the sand is everywhere, although the sand is not as fine as the one you can find on Sahara desert, but that is not a negative, just an observation. Plenty of fun especially for kids and dogs.
Milan P — Google review
Climbing this enormous dune – one of the higher spots in otherwise flat Denmark – rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the sea. Sitting on top of a dune in northern Denmark was not what I expected when planning our road trip, yet it turned out to be one of the most powerful experiences. As you watch the ever-changing scenery, with untamed sand trying to conquer the local vegetation, you realize that fighting nature is impossible. Nature always finds its way – and compared to it, we are so small. It is a deeply grounding feeling, mixing freedom, defiance, and strength. Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend stopping here, taking a quiet moment, and letting the power of the dune resonate within you – a force that follows its own path, no matter what.
LétovItálii — Google review
A truly fascinating place — a stunning desert in the middle of nowhere that felt straight out of Dune! The vast white landscape, complete silence, and the feeling of complete isolation made it an unforgettable experience. We were the only ones there, and it felt almost otherworldly. Absolutely magical — we’ll definitely be back ✨
Evelina V — Google review
Amazing place of nature beauty. I recommend coming either in Avery early morning or off season, otherwise your experience may be impacted by the crowds.
Daniel O — Google review
A huge sand dune 14 km from Skagen. It felt like being in the desert. It takes about an hour to walk there and back. Good free parking, as well as toilets. It's a nice experience to go there.
Bjørg S — Google review
Surreal! Very unexpected to find an actual and dune in Denmark. It really feels like a scene from a movie based in an African or Arabian desert. The sand is soft and clean. With a stop for an hour or so on the way to or from Skagen
Michael L — Google review
The closest thing to a desert you can come to experience in Scandinavia. When walking here in this dune it is almost like walking in a mini Sahara. But climb one of the small hills and you are presented with at stunning view of the nearby area

Den Tilsandede Kirke

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Den Tilsandede Kirke is a Gothic-style church tower ruin built in the 14th century, located on a beautiful sand dune. It offers visitors the opportunity to climb up into the old tower for stunning views of the surrounding landscape, which can be enjoyed from benches outside if climbing isn't possible. The site also features demarcations outlining the original perimeter of the church and is an intriguing destination when combined with nearby sites showcasing how sand dominates and moves across the region.
If you came to Skagen, you should come here. A church that is standing alone in the sand in a remote place. Amazing. You can go inside and climb a tower like this so far. Be careful, the stairs are quite steep and small. And the road to here is a trail, but there are not many people, so it may be a little difficult to come alone. I liked it because I rode my bike.
웅냥냥 — Google review
Very interesting site, short hike. It was fairly crowded and a bit of a wait to climb the tower. The tower is very narrow. Lots of barn swallows!
Heather W — Google review
Stunning historical gem! The sand-buried church tower offers a unique glimpse into Skagen’s past. Scenic dune views, peaceful walk, and a cozy vibe. Perfect for history buffs! Highly recommend.
Andres P — Google review
At this beautiful place I felt as if all my prayers and wishes of the soul were being heard. It carries a unique calm and strength. Seeing how the church withstands the forces of nature while slowly being swallowed by the sand filled me with both admiration and courage – it is a true symbol of resilience and faith. Only the tower remains today, as the rest of the church was completely buried by shifting sand dunes. Still, the spirit of history is alive here – the church was originally built in the 14th century and once ranked among the largest in the region. There is a parking area nearby, everything is well maintained and clean, including restrooms, which is a big plus. The place is easy to reach and the atmosphere at sunset is absolutely magical. 🌅 Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience a touch of mystery and a deep connection with both nature and history.
LétovItálii — Google review
Interesting historical landmark. It's free and you can climb up to the rafters and enjoy the view. Nice walking trails in the surrounding park as well.
Matthias H — Google review
If you are expecting to see sand half way up windows and doors you will be very disappointed. The tower is almost completely visible and main body of the church was actually demolished, not buried. It's a nice walk to a pretty tower but that's about it.
Jane M — Google review
If you are travelling to Skagen, you should make a quick stop to see this small, but beautiful church!. Beautiiful photos are garanti and you get to see families of doves flying around too. If you go upstairs you 'll have a great view of the area through the church's windows. Keep in mind that the stairs going up, are not that many, but is a bit tight to go through them. Overall, this church is worth a visit!.
Effi A — Google review
Den Tilsandede Kirke, or *The Sand-Covered Church*, in Skagen is one of those places that feels almost unreal — a hauntingly beautiful reminder of nature’s quiet power over human ambition. Standing alone amid rolling dunes and whispering pines, only the stark white tower remains visible today, rising like a ghost of the past above the sand that swallowed the rest of the structure centuries ago. The walk to the site through the windswept trails is peaceful and meditative, and as you approach the church, there’s an eerie stillness that makes you imagine the villagers once digging it out after each storm. It’s not just a historical landmark; it’s a story etched into the landscape — of resilience, loss, and the slow reclamation of human effort by nature. The site isn’t flashy or crowded, but that’s its charm — it’s raw, atmospheric, and strangely moving, especially during sunset when the light turns the dunes golden and the church tower glows softly like a relic of another era. Cryptic??? here you go 1_4m_th3_crypt1c_k1ng Well done!

This a great place to be on the evening of 23 June to experience the midsummer festival; many hundreds attend to witness the bonfire and later on the fireworks. The programme of events has poems recited and songs sung. The surrounding area offers delightful walks along the coast and through the dunes on both sides of the peninsula; it’s well worth walking to the most northern point where the North and Baltic Seas meet.
Mal J — Google review
Nice location just out of town with amazing views of the surrounding dunes and the North Atlantic Ocean and Baltic Sea.

The place with stunning views and amazing sight. Walk, run or just sit do whatever you want to do at such a superb place. Take a lot of pictures for your amazing memories. lovely houses with amazing beach views.

This is a replica built in 1958 (original was built in 1627). Worth stopping to see. Great view of the water, walking trails around the area.
Justin L — Google review
A good old lighthouse primitive. Being a maritimer I find all maritime relevant contraptions interesting. It's interesting too see how maritime light signals were made and used in ancient times. Even though it's not much to wander about a quick stop won't hurt. Have a good one.
Brave R — Google review
Nice place next to a supervised bathing beach with direct view to the roads of Skagen. Public toilette and garbage bins at beach entrance. Board walk for wheel chair access onto beach and even down to the water (at least in summer).

Beautiful church … history goes back to 14 century.
Sumandra M — Google review
Cute church in this small city. Inside, you can leave a guest book and go in until 6 p.m. The wall painted sky blue is really pretty. I think it's not a large church, but rather a more beautiful one. A place that feels quiet and relaxed.
웅냥냥 — Google review
This is a lovely Lutheran Church in Skagen! I found it so interesting that the picture at the altar was the Christmas story. The baptismal font was beautiful! I love the little ships that hang in the sea churches. The crucifix was very interesting and I wish I knew the story behind it. If you're in Skagen, definitely check this church out!
Lori A — Google review
We were so very blessed to attend a memorable Sunday service and coffee at this church. The volunteers, headed by Mrs Bodil Johansen, treated us complete strangers like close family. This unique, beautifully maintained, wonderful church is a must-visit stop on weekdays, and a spiritual home on Sunday mornings.

Beautiful little church, well worth a visit. Look for the boat models hanging inside

Natural history museum Skagen - Skagen Nature center

Natural history museum
Museum
Scenic spot
(Translated by Google) Really nicely done museum with lots of great exhibits that the owner made himself. You can learn about the geology, the fauna of Denmark and even mammoth bones are on display. Very worth seeing and not so overstimulated (classic museum without digital media). Some of the exhibits look as if they were still alive. Very lovingly designed in the natural poses of the animals.

A very charming privately run museum. You can tell the two people running this are really passionate about the topics covered here, be it geology or marine wildlife. Happily answered all of our questions! And while some of the signage is indeed only in Danish, they do have handouts in English and German. Definitely a recommendation!

Poul was able to capture the interest of the 2-year-old, the 75-year-old and everything in between with his knowledge of the dune landscape, the mile and råbjerg stones., can be highly recommended, book a ticket for some activities otherwise not necessary, see the website. (Translated by Google) Nice little amateur museum with three rooms with stuffed animals and rocks and a committed owner. The one star is because we participated in the shark dissection event. The owner used a dogfish for this, which is on both the Danish and European red lists of endangered species. The dogfish cannot therefore be bought in Denmark. But the Museum imports them from a country that does not respect the list, because the owner does not believe it is endangered. 'Stupid politicians have adopted the list, but go home and eat caviar afterwards', said the owner. My jaw dropped. Regardless of whether Poul was smarter than Danish and European marine biologists, you should not teach children that you should not comply with fishing bans. The history of our predation on the ocean's resources was conspicuously absent. An otherwise obvious opportunity, when you teach children about such an amazing and vulnerable animal as the dogfish, which lives to 70 years and gives birth to live young. The owner was proud that he did not receive public funds. I'm actually glad he doesn't.

Skagen Marina is a picturesque and vibrant harbor area with colorful boats and charming old buildings that create a beautiful setting. It offers an array of activities, including exploring the sand-buried church and the wandering dune of Rabjerg Mile, as well as visiting the renowned Skagen Museum to admire works by members of the Skagen art movement. The marina also serves as an important fishing port, providing fresh seafood for its many restaurants.
Skagen Marina is such a cozy and beautiful place! 🌊⛵️ It’s super clean and has a really chill vibe. You can walk around and look at all the cool boats, and there are lots of restaurants and ice cream places nearby 🍦🍔. The sunsets there are amazing and it’s just the perfect spot to relax or hang out with friends and family. Would totally recommend it if you’re visiting Skagen!

The marina harbour of Skagen is very beautiful. The colourful of boats and small old buildings around the harbour compliments each other which made it looks beautiful. There are also boutiques shop in the area too which convenient for shopping.

Used as a motorhome stopover. Busy fishing port and good to match the fleet arrive and depart. Parked next to a few fish restaurants, excellent and a short stroll to the town centre

The town of Skagen is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, our experience at Skagen Marina was very disappointing. During our stay, several boats played extremely loud music from midday until late in the evening. It was impossible to sleep or even relax. As the day went on and people got drunk, the situation only got worse. What surprised us most was that nobody from the marina staff reacted or tried to handle the noise problem. For us, this made the stay frustrating and unpleasant. Sadly, we will not return to this marina.

Beautiful place that is not only a marina but also an important fishing port. There are many nice shopping options as well many seafood restaurants. Art gallery are great to see. There is in the same site a quite important boat yard were fishing boat are getting repared which bring a little negative side to have these two industry not really connected together.

Skagen is a nice harbour. They have most necessities, and it's a short walk to the "city centre". It's not very expensive to Dock your boat here for a few days, but be prepared to squeeze it into a crowded harbour or have a lot of neighbours as this is a very popular place in summer time.

We had lunch here, the food was tasty but the service was extremely slow. We had the starters and waited almost an hour until our main courses came. We had to ask several times for our beverages because the waiters were uninterested in asking if we were missing anything.

Stunning harbor views at this seafood gem! Fresh, delicious fish dishes, cozy sand-floor vibe, and friendly staff. Authentic Skagen flavors shine. A must for seafood lovers! Highly recommend.

Went here for lunch and honestly found it a bit overrated. We tried the lobster, pan-fried salmon, and fish soup — all were just average and nothing really stood out. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant with a nice view, but given the high prices, the food didn’t feel worth the cost.

We had a lunch at Skagen Fiskerestaurant. The food was good, but nothing particularly special to match the high price we paid. The staff wasn’t very friendly, which didn’t help the overall experience. The location is nice, but we left with a bit of a bad feeling given how expensive it was for what they offered.

Excellent food and wine selection. I recommend the Fish and Chips Skagen style and the Moulles Frittes. The desert was also good, but nothing out of the extraordinary. The prices are good, I would say on the medium to expensive range, but worth it. One last thing I recommend is making a reservation since it can be full.

Nice place, Nice food and Nice people even if it's a bit expensive but it was 15th of August in border to the sea so.... Still a good experience :)

Excellent restaurant. We had a three course prix fixe dinner including a wine pairing with each course. We talked to them ahead of time and they made sure everything was gluten free. Everything was delicious. The server was excellent as well. Highly recommend.

Jakobs Café & Bar

$$$$affordable
Cafe
Jakobs Café & Bar is a charming establishment located in the heart of Skagen. The service, although not particularly swift due to the influx of visitors from a nearby cruise ship, was amiable. We indulged in a pint of Guinness and a coke, which set us back around 15 pounds. Despite the hefty price tag, it was a pleasant stopover. The café boasts an inviting atmosphere with modern aesthetics both indoors and outdoors.
Fantastic overall experience - delicious food - tried both the small sharing options as well as the maincourse on couple of occasions. Great collection of wines in the menu, though limited option of beers. Service was pretty nice - could be improved I feel for the outside seating area. Live DJ after 22:00 was a great way to end the evening

Great restaurant to go with friends/family or for a date. Very nice interior with lovely staff. They work with local fishermen to get the fresh fish. We had cod and lagoustine - delicious!

Average Experience at Jacobs Restaurant in Skagen, Denmark I recently visited Jacobs Restaurant in Skagen, Denmark, and my experience was rather average. While the restaurant had its strengths, it also had some notable areas for improvement. Firstly, the service left much to be desired. The staff seemed somewhat inattentive and failed to provide the level of attentiveness one would expect. It would have been nice to receive a more welcoming and attentive service throughout the meal. Moving on to the food, the burgers were decent, although they didn't exceed expectations. They were satisfactory, but nothing remarkable. On the bright side, the chips served were tasty and left a positive impression. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the vegetables on the child's plate. They appeared old and dry, which was disappointing. Fresh and flavorful vegetables are essential, especially when catering to younger guests. This aspect of the meal fell short of expectations. In summary, Jacobs Restaurant in Skagen, Denmark, offered a rather average dining experience. The service was lacking, with staff in need of improvement in terms of attentiveness and friendliness. While the burgers were acceptable, they didn't leave a lasting impression. On the positive side, the chips were enjoyable. However, the subpar quality of the vegetables on the child's plate was a letdown. If visiting this restaurant, one may have a satisfactory experience, but it's worth considering other options in the area as well.

Jakob's Cafe & Bar has a nice ambience on the inside and looks very modern. The outdoor seating area is nice as well when it's good weather as the restaurant is in the center. The burger was delicious and service was really good as well.

Pakhuset

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Pakhuset is a world-class fine dining restaurant located in the harbor area, offering a magical ambience and excellent service. The starting dish and wine pairings are surprising and delightful, making for an exceptional dining experience. While it may be on the expensive side, the value is evident in the quality of food and drinks offered. Additionally, they offer local delicacies at reasonable prices during lunch buffets.
Lovely fish restaurant, on weekdays they have lovely menus and on weekend they have buffet. We really loved the buffet, had opportunity to explore multiple different foods, the surprise for me was Syltede Asier, basically pickled zucchini (which I'm not fan of, but pickled like this it was lovely complement/side to dish). The staff was super nice and helpful.

It is a very nice place to have dinner. The food was tasty. As for one who is bothe gluten and lactose intolerant, there's always something on the menu. The kitchen chef can always get something. excellent, and the staff was professional. The atmosphere was perfect.
Priscilla M — Google review
The food is expensive, the portions are not that big, the menu is very small, the service is mediocre, however the food is decent (but won't blow you away). I would recommend eating at another place, at least for lunch. Maybe dinner is a better experience. We went to this restaurant at 2pm. It was definitely on an off hour. By the we ordered, there were maybe five tables being served. Ordering the food was quick, it was served fast, but our waitress would not come back to the table at all. We waited 15 minutes, then flagged down another waitress who then got our waitress. The food was good, but I won't wow you at all. During my travels of northern Europe, the fish soup here was probably the worst out of all the places I visited. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't deserving of the price tag. The fried fish was good, but it was so light it just didn't fill you up. The roumalaude sauce didn't have any strong flavor either. I would recommend eating at another place, at least for lunch. Maybe dinner would be better.

A good restaurant in the Skagen harbor. We stopped by spontaneously and enjoyed the food. The service was average at best and the food quality and presentation mixed. Not bad at all, but also not meeting our expectations. Nice feature with the boat character interior.

Good fish and chips, a little salty, ample portions and tasty. Restaurant has nice outdoor seating with a view of the pier. The personal beam beautifully with smiles are courteous and service is great. Another plus is the music from a feelgood 80s playlist. Makes a happy place while dining.

Brøndums Hotel

Hotel
Restaurant
Brøndums Hotel, a historic establishment dating back to the 1870s, offers cozy rooms and complimentary breakfast. The hotel's restaurant is housed in a grand old building where guests can savor exquisite fish soup made from a secret recipe. Once owned by the family of renowned artist Anna Ancher, the hotel was central to the artists' social lives. With five distinct buildings for accommodation, including a main building styled like a dormitory, Brøndums Hotel provides an authentic experience.
We had a wonderful lunch at Brøndums. The building is beautiful, historic and full of wonderful paintings but the restaurant doesn’t rely on atmosphere alone. The food is delicious - we had open sandwiches with very generous toppings - and the service is friendly, charming and very professional. The hotel’s own special spicy snaps made a unique and delicious accompaniment to the food

Spent a few nights here. The overall experience was okay at most. Old water damage on the wallpaper in my room which made the room look a bit unhygienic but the cleaning itself of the room was good. The shared bathrooms was a bit worse though. Toilets seemed clean but the showers hadn't been taken proper care of for a while. Was hesitant to even take a shower at first with all the built up spots of black mold and miscolored shower walls. Doesn't really live up to the expectations in comparison to the rest of the hotel. Overall the style of the rooms and the hotel is very nice and is why we choose to stay here. The breakfast was tasty and nothing to really add there! The cleaning personnel the first morning seemed irritated and barely said hello. The second morning there was another person which was much nicer. Remember they all represent your hotel. There also was a damaged cable with exposed copper(live wire) on 2 spots, which had clearly been run over by something and ignored. Got it replaced. But potentially very dangerous especially for kids. (Had one of our own with us) Didn't try the restaurant because of the luxury price but it looked fancy and good. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

My favorite place in the world. Broendums is quaint, charming, has excellent service, & serves delicious food. Don’t miss tea time by the fire &/or after dinner drinks by the same fire. Lovely! Off & shoulder season things are more quiet in town. If you love nature, art, & comfort far from the madding crowd Broendums in Skagen my recommendation.

Superior. Excellent. What a great place. Quiet. A time travel into the past. Consequent design and interior. No TV in the room. Thanks on this, it would have disrupted the style and ambient of the room. The breakfast will remain in my memories for a long time. Not too much, not too less. Very sustainable. Take yourself some time and walk the public rooms, such as the saloon or lounge. Parking in front of the annex building, next to the beach. Hard, comfortable bed. Powerful shower. It was a great experience, nice to know that places like this still exist.

We got a 2 hour slot at one or our favorite restaurants in Skagen, in an otherwise full restaurant tonight . The ordering was done late afternoon. We were thrilled as we have been there on several occasions and have always enjoyed the serving and food there, as it usually has a lot of taste and quality for both. Tonight was for the most of the servings, the same, - a great starter - delicious dessert and the side dishes for the main course were fine - the meat however was really below what we have experienced in the past for the place. The waiters were very nice and competent, the atmosphere nice however the main course meat was not at the level of the rest unfortunately. For the record we did not ask to get something else, however tips were very moderate and we gave the feedback to the chef of the evening, hoping that this improves the next time we dine there.

Cafe & Restaurant Kokkenes

$$$$expensive
Restaurant
Cafe & Restaurant Kokkenes may be expensive, but it is definitely worth the price. The staff are young and eager to assist in English, Danish, and Spanish. They offer a five-course menu that can be customized if needed. The food is deliciously prepared and presented with detailed information about its contents provided by knowledgeable staff. Even when ordering only a main course, they make an effort to ensure all meals are served together.
Superb restaurant, 2nd visit and the meal was outstanding. The staff are very relaxed and courteous, but OMG the food is outrageously good. Presentation spot on, generous and completely satisfying. Couldn't ask for more on a hot and sunny Danish day. Well perhaps Mads Mikklesen sat at the next table but I can dream. Strong Belgian beer and wonderful Danish food made for a superb outing.

It is pricy but worth every penny (or Danish Crown if preferred)! Young and service minded staff help you in English,Danish and Spanish. I chose a five course menu but when I asked to change my order after the four courses, as I could not eat any more, they changed it for me. Food was delicious, well made and presented. The staff had a knowledge about what it contains and informed us what we are about to eat. As my husband ordered only a main course the staff asked us which meals we would like to receive together. We were recommended good wine to my fish and great local pilsner to steak. We did not book in advance and we were asked to sit outside but the heating was on, blankets were provided and it was lovely although slightly windy. Overall: great experience! Book in advance if you can!

Great restaurant all in all. Too expensive compared to what you get. A 3-dish menu + 4-dish menu were around 900 DKK.

The place is really well located in the middle of the city center of skagen. They have a large terrasse when it is sunny. The food was good but, the wait was really really long. That's why I removed one stars and also because the fries on the fish and chips was to much salty.

Cafe
Café Knuth's is a popular spot in Skagen, offering a variety of dishes from fish and chips to veggie burgers. The portions are generous, with the kids' meal including veggie sticks, fries, and two fried fish halves. The mussel soup is highly recommended for its exceptional creaminess and sourness. In addition to the food, they serve a selection of snacks, seafood, steaks, and the famous Danish "bofsandwich.

This was our first time experiencing Denmark food. We ordered the seafood platter with panko haddock, salmon, salmon roes, fried claims, crab cakes and tiny little shrimps. All were really fresh and good, especially the tiny shrimps. The service was excellent and we got to watch all the tourists walk by as we enjoy our first Danish meal.

This mussel soup was honestly exceptionally good. I could probably describe it as one of the best I've ever ordered in a restaurant, with perfect creaminess and sourness. The french fries that accompanied it were perfectly crusty and salted, and the aioli was amazing. Otherwise, the staff was really nice and we were very happy that they even made the mussel soup alcohol free. Excellent all through!

Was in town with a cruise ship. The bar was so busy, they had closed the kitchen, I was trying to read the menu with Google translate (didn't have an English menu, which is fine) but the bartender was obviously frustrated with how busy it was and wasn't helpful at all and was rushing me to order (no table service) I wanted to try a flight, but they said no, and not being able to understand the menu, the beer I ended up with was unfortunately not good. Was disappointed with the entire experience.

Dit smørrebrød - Skagen

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Dit smørrebrød - Skagen is a charming corner restaurant that offers a wide variety of traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches. While the menu could use more vegetarian options, the lavishly garnished slices of bread are well-composed and delicious. The atmosphere is warm and delightful, with friendly and kind service that makes you feel at home. The portions are generous, maintaining quality and offering a taste of authentic Danish cuisine.
We had a delicious sandwich lunch in this traditional Danish restaurant. White red tablecloths and a beautiful old house in a central location on a pedestrian street works really well. When the sandwhiches are really good and quite reasonably priced, it's clear that this place is worth visiting. The only downside is that others agree and the restaurant can be very full and it takes a long time for the food to arrive (or to get the service at the first place). It must also be said that during busy times the waiters are also very busy, and not always as friendly as one would hope. I don't know if the famous toast Skagen comes from this restaurant, but it tasted good there!

The Brasserie serves as the central hub of Ruths Hotel, meticulously restored to its former grandeur by the late Philip Sorensen. This elegant establishment pays homage to its history while exuding sophistication. Helmed by Michel Michaud, the cuisine is modest yet bursting with delectable flavors. The menu offers classic French bistro fare, complemented by an extensive wine selection suitable for all palates. The knowledgeable staff ensures a seamless dining experience.
This is an excellent restaurant located inside Ruths hotel. The restaurant is very popular so reservations are highly recommended. The food is fantastic and the kitchen is inside the restaurant so you can see the chefs preparing your food. The staff is very friendly and professional.

Beside the kind service of the servers, we had a very tasty lunch. Fresh food, not expensive considering the quality of food and service. It's quiet and cleaned, the only thing that was, for me, a bit too expensive, was the dessert. I took a crème brulé which was a bit smaller considering the price, However, delicious. Thank you for your service, If we ever come back to Skagen,we will eat there again for sure. <3

Wife and I had the Moules-Frites, and I have to say this is the single best Moules-Frites I have ever had. The locally-sourced mussels were best described as delicate, with excellent preparation in a lemon wine sauce savored with fresh sliced garlic and onions and garnished with semi-dried tomatoes. The frites were prepared perfectly. Excellent experience, fantastic food and lovely venue.

The Brasserie is the hearth of Ruths Hotel, which has been brought back to it's former glory by the late Philip Sørensen. The place is tasteful and lavish yet respectful of it's heritage. Originated and still overseen by Michel Michaud, the food is far from ostentatious but rich in flavor. You will find the usual dishes of a French bistro, the wine list has something for everybody and the staff are well versed. At lunchtime in the summer, this is the place to be in Skagen.

Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Seems like very good ingredients are used, my beef tartare was the best I ever have had, as were the french fries (I thought they were worth the calories, even after I had consumed them). Only suggestion I would make is to use a different kind of fish for the children’s menu, one more meaty like a plaice or “rødspette”.

Bodilles Kro is one of the oldest restaurants in Skagen, offering traditional Danish cuisine at fair prices. The portions are generous, and the staff is known for their friendliness and helpfulness. The restaurant has a traditional atmosphere and during the summer, guests can enjoy outdoor seating with live music. They also offer a complete vegan menu upon request. With big portions and delicious food, it's recommended to make reservations as the place can fill up quickly.
This was by far the best food I had in Denmark! We arrived near closing time and the owner was welcoming and served us. We had fried catfish and schnitzel to share. What made the night more special was the fireworks to celebrate the king and queen visiting.

Transportation in Skagen

Getting around Skagen can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

Aalborg Airport

International airport
Airport
Aalborg Airport, located in Norresundby, Denmark, is an international airport that celebrated 75 years of internal and European flights with the construction of a new terminal in 2013. As the third-largest airport in Denmark and the largest in the North Jutland region, it offers a quaint and quiet travel experience. The airport features friendly staff, minimal overhead pages, and easy navigation with different gates designated for various airlines. It also provides good options for food and souvenirs.
Cute little airport in Aalborg. The arrivals and departures is a breeze. I think for a usual flight it would barely take 20 mins from entry to the gate. Since it's a smallish airport you can expect timely arrivals and departures without any queuing delays. One has to walk from airport building to the airplane and that can be challenging at times in cold weather. But I am not complaining. There are sufficient outlets including a place to eat and drink. There is a lounge upstairs. There are some gates upstairs, but it's moot because one has to anyway walk down to ground level and walk to the airplane. Good connectivity to the city. Car parking free for first hour. Overall loved the experience and hence 5 stars
Santhosh D — Google review
This is our last stop. A small airport. They have very large parking lot. Clean and very peaceful as there are only a few flights I believe. Our agent was waiting for us which is good and accommodated and helped us bring our luggages into the taxi.
Reggie V — Google review
Aalborg airport is super easy to find your way around. You get through security quickly and the airport offers many different travel destinations. There is good public transport from the area, bus, train and taxi. Parking is also cheap here, DKK 20 per day. It is a small but efficient airport and I would like to give them 5 stars. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
De B — Google review
Quite surprised that such a small airport is that good. Comparing to the airports in Gothenburg and Stockholm, this is a pretty modern and clean airport with modern tech. For it’s size, it’s a really good airport, much better than most of Europe’s airports
Kirill M — Google review
Very outdated for a European airport, they still ask you to remove every single electronic device & all liquids from your bags/luggage. This isn't the even the biggest issue, it was more so the lady who was very rude about putting the liquids in a small plastic baggy. When I grabbed 2 bags (from a free to grab stack of small bags) because my liquids didnt fit in 1, she got mad about how you're only allowed 1. There were no signs about this 1 bag rule anywhere so she could've just spoken politely.

Travelers, know your rights before check-in at this airport! We had a terrible check-in experience at Aalborg Airport Tuesday October 21 2025, going to Houston via Amsterdam with KLM (operated by German Airways) at 6:30 in the morning! Both the lady at check-in and the other lady at the Service Desk had absolutely NO clue of what they were doing and held us up for over 40 minutes claiming that we could only bring 23 kg per bag despite having KLM’s international Business Class (World Business Class) tickets to Houston, Texas via Amsterdam which allows for 32kg per kilo per bag (two bags each). The Service Desk lady was particularly clueless AND persistent that we either had to repack our bags (our bags were all well under the 32kg we knew we were allowed) or pay for the extra weight according to their “rules”. Confident we were in the right, I had to ask her to look up the KLM weight policy for Business Class (the lady kept showing me the limits for Economy Class on her screen at the Service Desk) and guess what, we were right – it came up with 32kg per bag! Even then the lady rudely said “well, I am going to let you check in and see what happens, but I have never in my long career come across anything like this”. Sure, we can all make mistakes, but we kind of expect a basic knowledge from airport employees. Had we not done this trip “ a million times before” and known our rights, we would have had to try to fit our luggage into the 23kg limit OR pay for the extra weight! What an unnecessary nightmare that would have been. ….oh, and btw, we had almost the same experience here at this airport about a year ago (2024) as well, but the ladies we were dealing with at that time, at least had an apology when they realized they were in the wrong (and it only took them 30 min to figure it out as supposed to 40 min...).
Kari O — Google review
This quaint and quiet little airport in Northern Denmark was a fantastic gateway to and from our trip. All of the staff were friendly and patient -- answering our questions and helping us through the process of a forgotten purse on the plane and a tight connection in Amsterdam. The airport is "quiet" with minimal overhead pages (we didn't know how much to appreciate this until our multi-hour layover in Atlanta where the overheard noise never stops). We got a quick breakfast, got on the plane and look forward to perhaps returning some day.
