Villa Durazzo

Park
Sights & Landmarks
Villa Durazzo is a stunning 17th-century villa located in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. Originally built as a summer residence for the Durazzo family, it now stands as a historical landmark open to the public. The villa boasts period furniture, paintings, and manicured gardens with exotic plants, cobblestone tracks, neoclassical sculptures, and plant racks. Visitors can enjoy picturesque views of the gulf from this hilltop estate.
The Villa Durazzo-Pallavicini is a villa with notable 19th-century park in the English romantic style and a small botanical garden. The villa now houses the Museo di Archeologia Ligure, and is located at Via Pallavicini 13, immediately next to the railway station in Pegli, a suburb of Genoa, Italy. The park and botanical garden are open daily except mondays. The estate was begun in the late 17th century by Clelia Durazzo Grimaldi, who established the Giardino botanico Clelia Durazzo Grimaldi at that time. Today's park was created by her nephew Ignazio Alessandro Pallavicini after he inherited the property. The park was designed by Michele Canzio, set designer for the Teatro Carlo Felice, and built between 1840 and 1846. It covers some 97,000 m2 of hillside behind the villa. Although recognizably in the English romantic style, the garden is highly theatrical, to the point of being organized as a series of scenes forming a play with prologue and three acts (Return to Nature, Memory, Purification). Structures and statues through the garden form focal points to this libretto. When the park opened in September 1846, on the occasion of the VIII Congresso degli Scienziati Italiani, it quickly gained national fame. In 1928 its current owner, Matilde Gustinani, donated both park and botanical garden to Genoa for use as a public park. Through the remainder of the 20th century, the garden fell into some disrepair, and indeed was threatened in 1972 by construction of a nearby highway. Its restoration began in 1991, however, in honor of Columbus' discovery of America. As of 2006 about half of the park is open for visitors. In 2017 the park was elected the most beautiful garden in Italy. The park contains two ponds, a dozen notable structures, various statues, and an extensive grotto. The grotto represents a Dantesque inferno, with walkways and subterranean lake through which the visitor may ascend to paradise. In former years, visitors could explore the grotto by boat. Structures include a Coffee House in the shape of triumphal arch, Rustic House, Madonna's Chapel, Mausoleum of the Captain, Temple of Diana, Flower House, Turkish Temple, Obelisk, and Chinese Pagoda. The park also contains a number of plantings of botanical interest, including mature specimens of Araucaria bidwillii, Cedrus libani, Cinnamomum camphora, Jubaea chilensis, Picconia excelsa, Firmiana simplex, Quercus suber, Podocarpus macrophyllus, many exotic palms and a stand of some 160 Camellia japonica.

Villa Durazzo is truly one of the most royal and beautiful villas I have ever seen. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and timeless architecture, it offers a sense of quiet elegance that feels almost magical. The atmosphere is unique — a perfect blend of history, beauty, and serenity — making it an unforgettable place to visit.
KETEVAN G — Google review
The gardens of Villa Durazzo are absolutely breathtaking filled with statues, palm trees and a sense of deep history that you can feel in every corner. It’s one of those places that instantly takes you back in time. We had the joy of photographing a wedding there, and the combination of timeless beauty, sea views, and elegant architecture made it a truly unforgettable celebration.

Historical villa with beautiful gardens, statuary, fountains and turtles. Nice views of the city and beaches below and the surrounding hillsides.hillside. When open, one can tour inside the villa and see some blown glass chandeliers and period furniture.

We came for a tour, which was very pleasant. Garden is fee of charge, has a playground. Coffee house is also nice! In the evening we came back for a piano concert which was outstanding!!

Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure

Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Santa Margherita Ligure, the Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure stands as a testament to the town's rich history and stunning coastal beauty. Constructed in 1550 by the Republic of Genoa, this impressive fortress was originally designed to fend off pirate invasions, particularly from North African raiders.
Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure is a nice little castle that is on the waterfront of the harbor. It has a very beautiful view and it looks really cool. We did not get to go inside
Razorrau1 — Google review
Again and again. Why another “attraction” is closed for all those foreign tourists which come and leave their money there? I don’t get it?? Castle? Rather very very little castellino.
Oliwier22pl — Google review
The Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure (1550) at Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, was built by the Genoese to defend against raids by Barbary pirates but that role became redundant in the 18th century when the attacks ceased.
David S — Google review
About the castle: Construction began in 1550 and were completed in September of the same year. From the 18th century it lost military importance, thanks above all to the ceased pirate invasions, and therefore received only some repair and maintenance work. About the expedition: Open every Sunday morning from 10:00 to 12:00, even in April. The multimedia exhibition spaces of the 16th century castle of Santa Margherita Ligure tell the story of our sea and our seabed, with talking paintings, touch screens, projections and archaeological finds Entrance fee cost of a few EUR.

Not much to see there, just a small Genovese castle in Santa Margherita Ligure near the promenade. Haven't been inside, but from outside it looks nice and many people stop to take a picture.

Nice town on the seaside In between Rapallo and Portofino it’s worthwhile to stop in Santa Margherita. Along the seaside with a port, this town is the mood of the Ligurian Riviera with its nice colorful buildings and prestigious hotels. Absolutely charming! A good idea may be to walk either to Rapallo (c. 30’) or to Portofino (1 hour).

Spiaggia Minaglia Santa Margherita Ligure is a popular beach area that attracts tourists throughout the year, especially in the summer. The city is framed by stunning seas and mountains, providing a beautiful backdrop for visitors. During the summer, the beaches are bustling with activity as people seek relief from the heat in the cool sea waters.
My favorite little beach in S.M. Bring your own towel and goggles to see all the fish that will swim around you, enjoy this gem is completely free and full of sun till around 18:00. People are chill and respectful. It’s a great little spot to relax from the intensity of the main streets and other crowded beaches.
StewartGerard — Google review
I drove with my kids to this lovely beach right before Portofino. I chose it because there is a reasonable parking structure right across the street from the beaches! Very tight parking but great location! This beach has changing rooms and an outdoor shower. Great snacks and drinks. A little tight as a beach but we spent the day there and it was spectacular! The water was great! We are definitely going again. Very frequented by the locals, as it appears, but highly recommended for the visitors who want to avoid the Portofino lines for parking. PS: there is a shuttle down the street that takes you to Portofino. We spent the day at the beach. Had lunch there. Changed at 6pm or so. Took the shuttle to have dinner in Portofino and back to the parking area a whopping €3 per hour parking! Can’t beat that. Perfect day!
H C — Google review
Very nice location. The price is affordable because there is the option to buy half-day sunbeda for 11eur each. The half-day goes until 13:00 and from 13:00. Unfortunatly there is no sand but gravel which kind of hurts when walking over it. To the sea: there is no sand too but the whole ground is covered in big rocks. This is no criticism to the beach owner cause he cant do anything about it, but a mentionable negative point about the beach. The only problem i could find was that they dont really offer food. You can buy cocktails, drinks and Sandwiches but not real food. Overall a good experience regarding the low prices

Perfect beach for fair money. Service and personal are very nice and welcoming, fell like you are with friends. Comfortable entrance to the water, clean, long distance to buoys where people can easily swim for long. Take swimming mask or glasses to see the beauty of the see. For me the best beach in the area. Online reservation is available. Strongly recommend. 50 euros per 2 beds and parasol in first 2 rows and 32 for the rest. Beautiful we of Santa Margherita.

Beautiful place 😍
Svetlana I — Google review
What a wonderful world. Italy has many beautiful surprises and this is one. A nice and atypical park with many many great places. The path is well marked and there is a lot of picnic area with tables and views. Sadly there is two drawbacks. The first one is the map indicated on every main signals in the park, indeed the satellite view isn't accurate enough. Secondly there is no place to bivouac. I know there is a shelter but a national park which is close to nature must have a dedicated place to campers. Globally if you have a detour to do to see this park, do it.

Chiesa di Santa Margherita

Church
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
Chiesa di Santa Margherita, located in Piazza San Siro in Santa Margherita Ligure, is a Catholic place of worship known for its remarkable interior design and a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary inside the chapel on the left side of the main nave. The church boasts stunning baroque architecture with opulent gold leaf decorations, intricate frescoes, elegant chandeliers, and beautiful stained glass windows that will leave you in awe.
The construction of the current church dates back to 1658, and it was solemnly consecrated on 23 September 1770 by the archbishop of Genoa.
Levente M — Google review
The Basilica of Santa Margherita is dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antioch. Entrance to the basilica is free, and the church is open daily. Construction of the current church began in 1658 on the foundations of an earlier, 13th-century chapel or church. The architectural design is attributed to Giovanni Battista Ghiso (or G. B. Ghisio), a significant figure in Ligurian Baroque. During construction and subsequent adaptations, the façade's orientation was changed. In the 18th century, a new bell tower (campanile) was added to the façade—designed by Carlo Orsolino (1750)—and alterations were made to the façade. The old stone bell tower was demolished in 1786. Architecture Style: Ligurian Baroque. Plan: Latin cross church, three naves separated by columns, with a dome above the intersection of the cross's arms. The façade: divided into three sections, with a double order of columns (binate columns), stucco decorations and sculptures, including depictions of the apostles Peter and Paul in niches on the sides. Reliefs are incorporated above the side façade or side elements, such as the scene "The Calling of St. Peter" in an octagonal field above the side portal. Interior: three naves, a dome, and richly decorated decorative details. Relics of Saint Margaret are present: urns containing her remains and (from 1724) also the "precious blood" (sangue prezioso). A place of worship and devotion for the parish, the basilica—that is, a church particularly distinguished by its title. Architecturally, Santa Margherita Ligure is an important landmark for visitors.

You’ll gasp audibly when entering Santa Margherita Ligure’s small yet lavish baroque church, not just at the truly dazzling array of gold leaf, frescoes, chandeliers and stained glass, but also at the sheer serendipity of it being here at all.

Adorable dog beach. Nearby restaurant was a pleasant bonus. Friendly people and dogs alike!
Michael T — Google review
Great little beach for dogs! There’s a hose and shower. There’s clear, decently clean water. Cons: - Not much shade so bring an umbrella - Small area so it can get crowded - Paid parking a nearby walk - Water-shoes are a plus Be aware: If you’re not into dogs running around, pick another beach
Heidi P — Google review
A fair walk outside of town to a rocky beach below the roadway. The canine loved it (excluding the 'scary' rippling waves!), despite the lack of sand. There's a picture of Pluto the Dog with a sign that said "Cani" & "Cancello", which made us a little concerned that dogs were no longer welcome (turns out "cancello" is Ital. for 'gate'. Ah.). The Bau Bau beach sign had fallen off and broken, and half of it was reattached crudely on the handrail halfway down (so totally useless - you have to have already committed to entering the beach without this info!). :) Very grateful that there is a dog-friendly beach access for SML / Portofino, though, so we'll gladly take what we can get! Otherwise - a pretty crummy beach full of fishing detritus.
PandH — Google review
Considering that there're not so many public beaches nearby, this one is ok. At least I could find a place on it. It's rocky, but still manageable to get in/out without shoes. Laying down is ok too.

The Abbey is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Since the Abbey is a private residence, it is only open to the public on Sunday from 1000 to 1200. The tours are guided and provide the Abbey's history in both Italian and English. The Abbey's gardens are spectacular. There is no parking on the grounds.
Michael A — Google review
La Cervara is one of the most exquisite and beautiful abbeys in the world. The views from the abbey are breathtaking. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding at La Cervara. The staff were very professional and both the wedding and reception were seamless. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. The seafood is utterly amazing. If you are looking to get married in the Portofino area, we highly recommend La Cervara.
Phil S — Google review
The location managers invent costs that were not discussed in advance. The staff is unfriendly, the food is below average and the communication with the location is a nightmare. Hands off! This is a rip-off! Never experienced such a bad behavior of location managers.
Andreas S — Google review
Beautiful place awful experience. We were literally kicked out from this sanctuary at we just set for a short break there after a long hike from S. Margherita Ligure.
Amit B — Google review
Abbazia della Cervara was built in 1361 and is surrounded by formal gardens. Over the centuries, the abbey has hosted Benedictine monks, three popes and a saint (Catherine of Siena), and the French king, François I, who spent a less convivial time here as a prisoner after the 1525 Battle of Pavia. Tours take in the gardens, 15th-century chapterhouse, 16th-century cloister and the Saracen Tower.

should be a tourist attraction rather than a place people actually do their grocery shopping at because the prices are just insane, there’s absolutely no reason why paella should be 55€/kg and potatoes and octopus salad almost 90€/kg (just to give two examples). the shop is incredibly pretty and charming but nothing on earth could justify the prices

My happy place. I wish there was one just like this at home. Pesto, espresso, wine... everything was better than amazing—and they had a whole section of candy too. My sis in law loves rocks. We brought her candy that looks like stones and I ate one. Yummy! My favorite was the Pesto Lasagna. We ate it many times. Italians like to say they do everything the best, but the man who made our espresso everyday was correct, creamy, awesome, perfect. I would live there. I might live there some day. Thank you for the nice and delicious dinner. Price/Quality ratio is really good here. The food was good and delicious. We have tried the pesto trofie, beef lasagne, stuffed and breaded friend anchovies. Breaded anchovies is not something special but still was nice. Stuffed anchovies was a unique taste for me which was filled with parmesan and pumpkin. At the end we tried tiramisu and apple pie. All was good, If you are in town and looking for a nice meal with reasonable prices. Go for it. Other restaurants in the coast side charges a lot even for a house wine! Thank you igor

Historical location, recently renewed. Pezzi offers a selection of Liguria traditional recipes. Cozy and informal, with home-made style. Even if not marked, several vegetarian recipes are available in the menu. Vegetable pies and stuffed vegetables are good options. Just ask the friendly staff for an advice. Better to book during summer and weekends.

Husband and wife pastry operation here from the USA. A very authentic and amazing experience. The pesto, lasagna, limoncello, anchovies, were beyond stellar. Highly recommended!! In our opinion, one of the finest in the area. Igor, if he’s there, will take the most amazing care of you.

So happy we found this place in SML. It was one of our favorite meals from the entire trip. The food was incredible and the people could not have been nicer. It was very reasonably priced (10-15 euro pastas), but the food rivaled our fanciest dinners. Everything we got was incredible, but our favorite was the grandmas pesto pasta. The Nutella tiramisu is also a must try.

we had a simply wonderful lunch. Irene, the owner, and Andrea, the waiters manager, are of a unique kindness and really well prepared in explaining all the dishes. They also suggest us the best ones depending on the fishing of the day, and the wine was delicious. the atmosphere is stunning and you can also dive from the pier and have a nice swim. this place is not a cheap one, but totally worth the quality of the food and the location. we surely be back, highly recommended.

I could not recommend Capo Nord enough! We were immediately greeted with a smile, and allowed to choose where on the patio we wanted to sit. The food was amazing, and the view was gorgeous. I hope to be back some day!

This place is absolutely fantastic. When you imagine the perfect seafront lunch experience, this is it. Recommended by locals, we were warmly welcomed by the wonderful owner. We had a great table, fantastic service, and truly delicious food. They were very accommodating with dietary restrictions, which we really appreciated. We even managed a quick post-lunch swim. Already look forward to our next visit!

Beautiful setting, however, our experience was hugely diluted by the rather rude service. They could not find our reservation despite the fact we showed them a WhatsApp confirmation message with the owner that morning. We were given a table away from the water “because other people called before you” the waiter said (the waterside tables remained empty during our meal). The €7 cover charge per person for bread (that was stale and tasteless) is a joke. And the crudités came with a dead fruit fly! (See photo). This not only questions hygiene standards but the quality of the offering versus the price. The fish we had was just ok nothing special and the wine was also not memorable at all. The best this place can offer is the view and the setting. I would recommend to avoid and instead go to a more friendly establishment with better service and attitude. Unfortunately a lot of establishments with stinking views or settings tend to overcharge customers whilst providing a mediocre service at best. This is the case of this restaurant this is clearly an expensive tourist trap.

We booked online for my mums 60th for 10 people. When we arrived there was no reservation. We had a confirmation email and when we clicked on it the online booking had taken us to a restaurant in America! We showed the waiter and he said yes this has happened before. If it has happened before why had they not rectified it? Our celebration was completely ruined. No apology. Also we spent €120 on taxis there and back. Really poor.

Seafood restaurant
Oca Bianca offers a departure from the local seafood norm, with a menu specializing in meat dishes including pastas, beef, lamb, pork, and octopus. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list from its adjacent cantina and provides attentive service. Visitors have praised the outstanding service and flavorful food, highlighting the delicious tiramisu. This family-owned restaurant is run by second-generation sons and is known for its fantastic wine selection and lovely menu.
We loved Oca Bianca. One of our favorite meals in Italy—so good we went twice! The steak and pasta (pictured) were both great. And the service was superlative. I recommend visiting if you have the chance.

We booked ahead for a table here. Got one in the corner, where our Bulldog was welcome too, that was very nice. There's a lot of meat items on the menu, as well as some Italian classics. Nice wine list as well. Inside it's a classy, comfy atmosphere. The (younger) staff was very friendly and took care of us very well. There was a complimentary Amuse Bouche first. We ordered the Tasting starter plate. Meaning a bit of everything that you could order in single servings as well: Steak Tartare, medium-cooked beef and pork with polenta. All very good items, the Tartare and beef both excellent, the pork was decent. For the mains we had the Steak Rossini: Cooked as ordered (medium), with hot Foie Gras on top and a wine-reduction sauce. Always a favourite of ours, this dish. And it was cooked very good - meat quality was great. Piemont beef. We had a glass of Prosecoo first, a glass white Pigato for the starter and a glass of Sangiovese for the main. The wines were nice. But it was really little wine in the glass only....for the price we did expect a more generous pour. From our countless visits to Italy and many many visits to restaurant, this was by far the one that really saved on the amount of wine. And then there's the price. It came together at just under 170 Euros. Compared to other experiences in town, this was clearly the most expensive. And for that a bit overpriced. Make no mistake, it's a good restaurant with good quality food. But 140 to 150 Euros (tops) would be appropriate. There are so many excellent restaurants in town, so this one here was a nice experience, but we probably won't be back.

Buonissimo. Absolutely exquisite meal. Perfectly medium rare steak, and a fabulous wine pairing. The owner was also very kind and discussed SML in general. We are already planning to return, and a resy at Oca Bianca is on the top of the list.

We visited this restaurant, which positions itself as a steakhouse, with high hopes. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely negative for several reasons. Smoking Issue and Staff Inaction: Upon arrival, we immediately noticed that all 5 people at the next table were smoking and continued to do so throughout the evening. We were there with our son, and this was unacceptable. We asked to be moved to another table, but the staff took no action whatsoever to resolve the situation. This was a complete disregard for the comfort of non-smoking guests, especially families with children. Quality of the Main Course (Meat) - A Disaster: We ordered several dishes. The truffle pasta was tasty (this is the only positive). However, in a steakhouse, the main course – the meat – turned out to be completely inedible! We ordered it Medium, but received it Rare (almost raw). Moreover, the meat was incredibly tough and impossible to chew properly ("not fit for teeth" is absolutely accurate). We expected a quality steak but got disappointment for a considerable price. Ignoring the Problem with the Dish: We left most of the meat untouched. The waiters, clearing the tables, clearly saw this. When the bill arrived, we explicitly stated that the meat was very tough and we hadn't eaten it. Instead of apologizing, offering a replacement, compensation, or even asking for details, they simply... presented us with the full bill. Absolute indifference to whether a guest enjoyed their main course. Rudeness and Attempt to Blame the Guest: When I expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the meat during payment, instead of apologizing or trying to address the issue, the manager (a gentleman in a white shirt, unfortunately I don't know his name) pointed at the coaster, claiming my son had scratched it. This was the height of disrespect and a completely inappropriate response to a complaint about food quality! Trying to shift the conversation to an allegedly damaged item instead of solving the real problem of an inedible dish is an unacceptable level of service. Conclusion: A restaurant that calls itself a steakhouse failed to cook meat properly (wrong doneness + toughness). The staff ignored both the smoking problem and the issue with the quality of the main course. And the final attempt to blame the guest instead of apologizing is simply rude. Regarding the food (except the pasta) and the service – complete disappointment. I cannot recommend it to anyone, especially if you're going for a good steak or expect a reasonable response to your feedback. Rating 1/10, and that's only for the pasta.

We loved our experience at Oca Bianca! Our hotel recommended them for a Pesto & Wine Class, which was phenomenal. It was just my husband and I, where we made classic Ligurian pesto that was Cesare and Riccardo's (the brothers who own the restaurant) grandmother's recipe. They then served delicious white and red wines, focaccia, pasta, and basil sorbet. It was so good that we cancelled our reservations for another place a few nights later and came back for dinner. This was a great decision as their menu was fantastic. While most restaurants in town focused on fish given the setting, Oca Bianca does both meats and fish, so it's a nice change. Riccardo used surprising blends of flavors that worked so well together. Every part of the meal was perfect and the picturesque lane we sat in was a great outdoor setting. We hope to come back again soon!

Diner style yet so clean with great food and house vino. Trofie pesto (excellent taste and portion), spaghettini seafood (delish with lots of seafood) and the nicoise ensalata (enjoyed with anchovies and a nice share). Great choice! Definitely would return.

Great non touristy restaurant for the locals with good thin crust pizza and seafood pasta, total meal came to 25€ for two....

We stayed to Rapallo for 5 days and went here almost daily. This is as authentic as it gets when it comes to local Italian food. Everything was delicious and the people working here were the nicest. I don’t know what to recommend since I liked so many things, but my personal favorite was seafood pasta. You should not miss this place if you are traveling in Rapallo but keep in mind that usually the businesses here close for 2-3 hours after lunch.

Overcharged, unfortunately we were overcharged at this restaurant. After ordering two deserts which had a sign for €2.50 we were charged for 3 deserts at €4. We also saw a lunch time offer advertised but non of the meals we ordered seemed to be in the offer. Which was strange when one was a simple tuna salad and a spaghetti dish. We questioned this but I guess the language barrier was too much. Shame as the food was nice but I wouldn't go back.

Avoid. Maybe good place for get drunk… but definitely not for food. 1. Salmon del chef: disgusting, they take some low-quality salmon from the shop and serve it as starter. 2. Pizza 4 Stagioni: awful 3. Gnocchi was OK, at least.

A must stop in Santa Margarita - very fresh traditional local specialties. Can try many different dishes for a very good price. Kind, friendly service and a selection of coffees, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. Definitely get the plate of pesto to drizzle on your other dishes, especially the caprese salad!

Staff was nice, and the food tasted good, but being served in paper plates, and the portions being 200g didn't make me really happy. They could do better, the place has potential, but I felt robbed paying for something and having the feeling that I'm receiving only half of it. 10€ pesto pasta 11€ burrata pasta 4.5 small peroni

Came here to take out some lunch for a picnic in the nearby park by the sea. This place here you can dine-ine or just like us take-away your food. There is a nice selection of many kinds of food. Be it fish, seafood, meat or vegetarian. Not every option is available daily (or it might sell out), but there's always lots to choose from. We ordered some chicken cotoletta, zucchini, salmon, meatballs and some mixed seafood. Did cost a bit under 30 Euros for everything. Quality was very good, the veggies very delicious. So was the seafood (mussels, squid) and the cotoletta. Meatballs were nice and tender, pork possibly, which we enjoyed. The salmon itself was a standard quality, but it was in a vinegar sauce, and that was an unlikely, but actually fantastic combination. Surely something we'll try back at home. Food-wise and quality-wise there was no issue. A very enjoyable meal. Price-wise it really could be a tad cheaper - compared to other food in town on a similar food-quality level. Almost 30 Euros was a bit on the high end. Besides that a really great experience.

Right next to the beach in a lively shady alley. Perfect hideaway from the burning sun. The menu looks simple, but the food is amazing. Try the fish and fries. It has calamari, fish, prangs, and fries. The sandwiches are fresh bread with aged ham and brie. A bit hard to get a seat though.

Abdulelah A — Google review
Been here three times during my stay, but today will be my last time visiting. I kept returning not because I found them particularly friendly or the coffee to be anything out of the ordinary, but because it’s the closest place to get espresso near my accommodation. Today I asked for my usual cappuccino and orange juice “take-away” because I was bringing it back to my mom who is sick. I saw the woman preparing the orange juice reach for a larger take-away cup before the man next to her instructed her to use the smaller one instead. I was given a tiny espresso cup of orange juice for €4, and what’s worse, is it was only filled half way. When I asked the cashier if that would cost less because the orange juice I’ve had when “dining in” before was at least 3x as large, she replied “if you want bigger it’s €5”. To pay €4 for what probably amounted to two thimbles full of orange juice is shocking. Not sure if I was treated this way because I’m American or if this is how everyone it treated. I tried my best to order in Italian and am always as polite as I can be, but clearly that doesn’t make a difference.

Just found this place this spring. Somehow we missed it last year when we were in town. It's a pretty busy and popular place. Has some tables outside, perfect to enjoy a dessert in the streets of this lovely town. We bought a whole bunch of little cakes and pattisserie to enjoy as dessert and for breakfast. Pistachio cakes, Black Forest cake, Easter/rice cake and more. And also: Cream Puffs. And really, all the items were delicous! The Easter rice cake was probably the best of that kind I've ever had. And the cream puffs are to die for. Divine! Santa Margherita has lots of bakeries and pasticcerias. But this one here is among the very very best. We will definitely be back next year.

Excellent Bakery! We stayed in town the third year in a row. But this time closer to the port - so we found this bakery just around the corner. Somehow we missed it the previous two years. And what an amazing bakery it is. You can tell by the constant line of people waiting to get some products. But it moves fast and is very well worth your time. Bread, sweets, patisserie, pastries sweet and savoury, Focaccia, pies and more. If it comes from the oven, you'll find it here. We came here several times during our stay. Bought some Donuts, some cream puffs, Focaccia topped with tomato and anchovies, veggie pies, onion pies and more. All wonderful products. Incredible Pistachio Gelato – A Must-Try! If you're in Santa Margherita, do yourself a favor and stop by Gelateria Centrale. I’ve tried pistachio gelato in many places across Italy, but this one is on another level. The flavor is rich, nutty, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet, and definitely not artificial. You can really taste the quality of the pistachios. The texture is silky smooth and incredibly creamy. It’s clear they use top-notch ingredients and take real pride in what they serve. Highly recommended—this was a highlight of my trip! I’d go back just for another scoop (or two). 🍨🌿

Two scoop ice-cream is sooo small I was dissapointed even without trying it. Taste is nothing special. Great ice-cream (5stars in flavor and consistency) but some of the staff is really , really impolite, rude and unpleasant… We have been to the gelateria several times though because we loved the ice-cream but the direction of the gelateria has to look into the matter of some the staffs behavior … its such a pity for the customer to leave the gelateria with “bitter aftertaste” after all. The airport is small yet clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Free Wi-Fi is available, along with a bar and mini shop before security check. After security, there's a duty-free area and a few bars depending on the zone of the airport. Security procedures are efficient and modern.

This is a fairly outdated and small airport. It is difficult to reach with public transport as there are few busses per day, only local slow trains stop nearby and the information is difficult to find. At the moment (October 2025) there is only seats for 250 people in the gates hall. I counted 6 toilets for men. My gate had no seats. We were put in a line to be checked for our boarding cards then left in line to access the bridge to the plane that was closed. No air conditioning. People are scouting for places to sit all the time and toilets get filthy very fast.
