The Scottish Seabird Centre, located in East Lothian, is a renowned environmental hub offering close-up views of seabirds and marine mammals. It serves as a national center for wildlife study and conservation, providing an educational yet entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. The center features exhibits showcasing Scotland's diverse wildlife, informative nature films, talks by wildlife experts, and live cameras beaming back pictures from bird colonies on islands such as the Bass Rock and Fidra.
I had the best experience this morning heading out to Bass Rock for the photographic experience. The staff were so friendly, patient & kind. They really took care of everyone & that help make the experience. I can’t thank them enough. The boat out to Bass Rock was fab. We couldn’t Initially see Bass Rock for the fog! When we arrived the birds didn’t disappoint. There was lots of action, a few cute babies & plenty to see. Staff are protective of the birds & made sure they are looked after while we were there which was great. I was also lucky to meet some lovely people who were also on the trip. I would highly recommend the Bass Rock photographic experience. (Images included are just iPhone grabs!)

Just had a fab trip on a R.I.B..[Rigid Inflatable Boat!] On the "Three Islands Seabird Seafari!" Would highly recommend it. The guide on the boat was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and willing to answer your questions. The boat was alot more comfortable than I thought. Took plenty of photos. Got lucky with the weather. Which is at the hands of mother nature. Would definitely recommend it as youre also supporting a good cause...in terms of the conservation of birds.
Happy S — Google review
They have boat tours for different places like Isle of May (options of landing trips as well), Bass Rock trips (options for landings as well). Well managed and very friendly with great enthusiasm to show the nature and birds on island. I took Bass rock trip, it was super awesome. Charges for boat trip is very competitive. Staff is very courteous and knowledgeable.
Bhushan V — Google review
We did one of the boat tours - 1 hour around two islands- and it was fun. My 3 kids liked it. Watch for bird poop! Crazy amount of birds in early July
Clint C — Google review
Went there to experience the RIB boat 3 safari island tour. What an experience! Very interesting and a thrilling ride when the RIB went fast.
Linda M — Google review
On Thursday, 24th July 2025, we booked a birdwatching experience with the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick. As we were visiting my son Kiro at St Andrews University, we took public transport to the centre and boarded one of their boats. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We saw the islands of Craigleith and Bass Rock, where we were amazed to see thousands of birds nesting together in large colonies. The sight was truly impressive, and learning about the lighthouse's history added an extra layer of fascination. What struck most was how close we were able to get to the birds, it felt almost magical. To our delight, we even spotted a puffin, which was such a highlight. A truly mesmerising experience. If you are visiting this part of Scotland, we highly recommend booking one of these trips, it is unforgettable.
Paola P — Google review
DId not get time to go on a tour, but explored the point and the gift shop! Nice selection of keepsakes for adults and children alike.
Tracy E — Google review
Fantastic 3 island boat tour, fun facts flying at us left and right from a brilliant guide, she took the time to point out lots of cool stuff and knew heaps about the sea birds. Do wear a waterproof though!

North Berwick Law

Mentioned on
+8 other lists
Mountain peak
North Berwick Law is a popular hilltop hiking spot offering stunning views of the city and sea, as well as a small rock-climbing area. The conical summit stands at 187 meters above sea level and provides sweeping views over the coastline, Edinburgh, and the Pentlands. History enthusiasts can explore Iron Age settlements and ruins of lookout posts from various wars during the two-and-a-half-hour climb.
One of the most beautiful hikes we did . The Law has such breathtaking and spectacular views . It's equally so peaceful up there . The hike is really doable because you have some spots through the hike to sit and have a little stop to enjoy the magnificent views . Definitely worth the visit .
MarieLaure A — Google review
Top of the North Berwick Law it gives a beautiful bird eye view of North Berwick, lovely path to walk on the top if anyone want to walk through the path or walk through the stiff bit of stones… Which ever you choose top of the hill is amazing, especially if it is bright sunny day… Stunning view of the Island near by.
Kamms S — Google review
Stunning views await from a surprisingly accessible climb. Due to its shape of shear on the town and sea side of the law to shallower on the country side you get a pleasant walk with great verticality ultimately. We went in fine but windy weather, I wouldn’t attempt it in rain
Tim W — Google review
The Law absolutely is one of the best views I have ever seen. When I was sitting on the cliffs and watching back down there, the golden fields, the magnificent clouds, the warm sunshine, the yellowish grasses—they all together formed a spectacular view. You must travel to this place if you’re travelling to Berwick. It’s perfect for me. Recommended.
Jack K — Google review
North Berwick Law offers stunning panoramic views of the area. From the top you can see the coast line, the town, various islands and fields. On a clear day you can see right across the Firth of Forth to the Fife Coast. Parking is free, there were plenty of spaces when I visited on a sunny Friday in April. There are information boards and picnic benches, but no facilities. North Berwick Law looks high but it wasn’t as tough going as it looked.
Melanie H — Google review
A good exhausting climb to the top of the hill. The views from the top are worth the effort! North Berwick Law is a conical volcanic plug and a popular landmark in East Lothian, Scotland, that offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and Firth of Forth. Formed over 300 million years ago, it's now a prominent crag-and-tail formation sculpted by glaciers. The summit is capped by a replica whale jawbone, a WWII bunker, and a path provides an accessible way to the top, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists. The grasslands are home to unique plant species, and the bare rock provides a habitat for specialized mosses and lichens. Exmoor ponies are sometimes used to graze the area to maintain the grassland.
John M — Google review
Amazing place, beautiful view reaching the top, easy ascent from the car park Various Trails options to reach the top
Rui V — Google review
Perfectly easy and relaxing walk and beautiful views from the top and along the way. I met some horses on my way and took some pictures with a rock. Hope you enjoy the walk if you choose to try it!

Steampunk Coffee

Coffee shop
Steampunk Coffee in North Berwick is a trendy and dog-friendly roastery and cafe that offers excellent coffee at affordable prices. The premises, housed in an old joinery warehouse, have a lovely atmosphere with a light steampunk theme. Although the menu has been streamlined to focus on good coffee and cake, the place has undergone a recent makeover with new seating arrangements, plants, and even occasional live music sessions.
Fantastic little gem if you are serious about your coffee. Roasted on site and tasted great. Fantastic atmosphere with a rustic industrial charm and the coffee roaster proudly on show at the rear. Friendly attentive staff. Cool place, great coffee!
Graeme K — Google review
Fantastic coffee shop, that lives up to the excellent reviews previous customers have left. I’m rather fussy when it comes to my coffee (those that know me generally consider me a coffee snob). I ordered a flat white with oat milk and it was perfect. I also had a slice of the banana bread, it was a reasonable sized slice and the right amount of sweetness. The interior of the cafe is rustic and unique. There is also outdoor seating overlooking an ancient disused church. Staff were friendly and efficient. I was only visiting the area but I would be a regular visitor if I lived closer. If you like a decent coffee I can strongly recommend giving this place a try.
Melanie H — Google review
Lovely staffs , good taste of coffee, and pastries 🥐 cake ,even have a few lists , clean toilets. Nice out door spaces, indoor have a plug for Mobile charger but laptop not allowed. Highly recommend if you come to North Berwick
Pan Y — Google review
We were on a day trip to visit the coast and stopped in for a quick coffee before our train ride back to Edinburgh. They have a large outdoor seating area with lots of furry friends. We enjoyed a hot mocha that was served with love! It was one of the best coffees we had on our trip.
Michelle B — Google review
Perhaps my favourite place for a cup of coffee. Bohemian feel, with a great little terrace to hang out in the sun. Excellent coffee, which is roasted on site. Pick a favourite and they will grind you some to take home.
Bud G — Google review
Went in on a Sunday morning. Quite a busy cafe and lots of cyclists stopping in for their morning coffee. Dog friendly was good to see and seating inside and outside. Could be a bit crowded if raining and when we were there, there was a bit of a queue for the loo. Would go again.
Simon N — Google review
Might be the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever had! Oh my godfathers. You know when you order a hot chocolate and get chocolate milk with 158 spoons of sugar? Well this is NOT that. Sprinkles of chocolate on top that taste like they were made for a Mayan Princess, and a drink that is just chocolate, warm flavoursome rich chocolate with depth of flavour and a hint of salt and, and, I don't have the words to do it justice, best go and try one ASAP!!
Sharon A — Google review
It was the worst cup of flat white I have had a for a long time. We basically got two cups of very hot milk infused with coffee which tasted of nothing. It was so bad that we left most of it. They have a very cool name but their coffee is a joke. I suggest visiting a proper coffee shop to check how it should be done.

Milsey Bay Beach

Beach
Milsey Bay Beach is a popular destination in North Berwick, attracting thousands of visitors annually. It's an ideal spot for families to enjoy the Scottish summer with its sandy shores, rock pools for kids to explore, and proximity to the charming seaside town center. The beach offers stunning views of the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, making it perfect for activities like swimming, sunbathing, and leisurely walks.
Nice clean beach just off the end of the high street in north Berwick. Very easy to get on to from the street and a few rocks to perch on to admire the views
David C — Google review
North Berwick has two beautiful beaches. Milsey Bay Beach is the East version. It was a lovely day to walk and enjoy this beach. It was not too busy, but then I was out of season. There is a tidal pool which is great for children and families. The water looked so clean and healthy. For us, we walked as far as the golf course and back, thoroughly enjoyable.
Allan M — Google review
Absolutely lovely place just to sit and reset, I took my daughter there and she loved the tranquility of the place. We managed to find some sea glass as well, which was nice
Michele B — Google review
Serene sand beach in North Berwick. Thrilling light reflections created by the pool next to the west border that amazingly combinate with the loneliness of Bass rock island. Really large and quite wide, no problem to find a place for your umbrella even on the peak of summer.
Alex S — Google review
Lovely long sandy beach with good views. Large shallow paddling pool for younger children. Close to the busy scenic harbour which has boat trips to the famous Bass Rock and it's gannet and other sea bird colonies. Short walk into the town centre which has plenty of amenities for food and drink. Parking is very busy as expected when close to the beach areas. North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, and continues to attract holidaymakers. Golf courses at the ends of each bay are open to visitors. Boat trips to the Bass Rock, Fidra and other islands, although landings are restricted and depend on maritime conditions. Scottish Seabird Centre – Visitor centre about seabirds found on Bass Rock and elsewhere, opened in 2000 by then-Prince Charles.
John M — Google review
Lovely dog friendly beach, great scenery , ice cream, coffee shops, quirky sights.
Angela S — Google review
Enjoy a 2 hour walk round trip, on a clear day and must be on the ebbing to low tide, along the shore coastal path below the Glen Golf club course. If you go at least half way, so round the cliff head, the views of Bass rock get better and better and some small beaches are exposed. Return and enjoy the fresh fish at the Rocketeer in the harbour
Roger B — Google review
North Berwick has for a long time been a firm family favourite for Aunts, Uncles, Mums, Dad's, kids and now their kids. Fabulous beaches, great town centre with many fabulous quirky shops. Excellent eating houses ( except for the chippy that charges a tenner for a fish supper!! ) The only thing that let's it down is a lack of parking spaces oh, and a jobsworth council worker who works at the toilet car park. Eejit woman. Would thoroughly recommend you come here for a visit. We regularly drive the 40 miles to get there for our day on the beach.

The two very kind gentlemen are truly Welcoming and helpful... I would visit even just to meet them... in any case everything is very well looked after, small but nice... plus it's free, but better to donate!

Though a small museum, it was a goldmine of information about North Berwick, and the Bass Rock. Very educational and lots of interesting things to see. The two lassies behind the front desk were very knowledgeable, and happy to help.

Always interesting to get the local history of places we visit. Lovely modern museum and a wide variety of displays. Helpful friendly staff too.

Our first visit to the museum and it was great. There is so much information about North Berwick and the surrounding area that we'll have to continue our visits here. The invigilator was very informative and pleasant, he made our visit feel quite relaxed.

Seafood restaurant
The Lobster Shack is a popular seafood spot located at the edge of the east bay in North Berwick. Known for its fresh and delicious seafood, it's a beloved institution in the area. Visitors often line up to savor their classic fish and chips, lobster rolls, and seafood bisque made from the day's catch. The restaurant prides itself on offering the freshest and most delectable seafood in North Berwick, making it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts.
We ate there on Sunday and although busy, the service was super fast. It is on the pricey side but the food is excellent! We ate the lobster/crab roll with chips and the fish burger. I almost preferred the burger although the lobster in the roll was really good! Plenty of sitting benches even on a sunny busy day.
Lisa F — Google review
We've visited the Lobster Shack several times now and it's always so fresh and tasty. Recent order included the lobster and crab roll (mouth-watering and full of meaty filling), half grilled lobster with chips (garlic butter was divine) and fish tacos (big thumbs up!). And to top it off, there are plenty of benches around to enjoy your scran with a sea view. Perfect!
Heather J — Google review
Excellent place to stop for some lobster. Long queues but well worth the wait. Great food at reasonable prices. Just make sure to get there in good time as they sell out quick. Thank you.
MSV D — Google review
Superb seafood and plenty of seating around to enjoy it. I recommend the seafood chowder which was so fresh tasty and very generous in the amount of seafood in the chowder itself. They have a good system where you order pay and wait a very short time with a buzzer
Tim W — Google review
We had lobster and chips - delicious. The lobster was really fresh. Half a lobster (you get half a body/tail and 2 claws!) for £29.95 - not cheap but worth the experience. Will try others on the menu next time.
EVELYN K — Google review
Nice stop for fish and chips, area to sit and eat isn't too great but it's fine for a quick stop to have your fish and chips. Fish is super fresh and perfect.
Nicole S — Google review
We had the fish and chips and the fish tacos both were delicious. I would definitely recommend going here if you're in north Berwick. We sat outside eating our food in the harbour.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque village of Dirleton, Dirleton Castle & Gardens is a captivating medieval fortress that boasts an impressive history and stunning landscapes. Just a short drive from North Berwick and Yellowcraig beach, this remarkable site features the world's longest herbaceous border within its beautifully maintained 19th-century gardens. Visitors flock here not only for the castle's rich heritage but also to admire the vibrant floral displays that attract gardening enthusiasts from all over.
Absolutely loved our visit here with my 7 year old who loves Castles. Considering some parts were closed off to the public there was still lots to see in such beautiful gardens. Definitely recommend and a lovely little play park at the grounds too.
Jenna M — Google review
The castle ruins are interesting, though mostly ruins there’s plenty to explore. Such a beautiful place, the grounds are lovely, first time we have seen a Doocot. Would be even better in the summer with all the flowers out. Parking available along the road.
Wendy C — Google review
This was a lovely find. A very charming castle ruins with its own fascinating quirks, stood overlooking a beautifully kept, colourful garden - loved the Hollyhocks - with an unexpected bowls' lawn in immaculate condition. Nearby was a Doocot in excellent condition which allows you to walk in and imagine the scene, back in the day, when it was full of nesting pigeons.
James H — Google review
Even half closed for maintenance, it was still worth going. Looking at the description boards in each section and comparing to the ruins really transported you back to what it might have been like. Helpful young man on the entrance counter. Beautifully kept gardens.
Rob C — Google review
Fantastic little castle from 12th century to the time of Oliver Cromwell. Nice gardens too. About half of the castle can't currently be accessed, awaiting renovation, but still lots to explore. Full moat and bridge access. Huge cellars. Currently half price due to loss of access (£4.50) so great value. Takes about an hour to visit, free parking. Access is via gate on main road (back down slope from car park). No cafe, but pub just across the road.
Chris D — Google review
Have been to more interesting castles. A lot of it was shut off and was not available. What there was made it just about worth visiting. The dovecot...they call it a doocot...was interesting. Not particularly memorable overall. The gardens are lovely.
Duncan P — Google review
Entrance fee at half price (£4,50 instead of £9) as there is currently no visitor access to the Guard House, South Entrance and De Vaux range.
Yolanda V — Google review
I enjoyed my visit here. Considering some parts of the Castle are closed for renovation. There is still plenty to see and enjoy. I arrived by public transport there is a bus stop right outside and direct from North Berwick. Once inside, you are immediately drawn to the doocot which is really impressive. I was also impressed with the massive cellars, although I might not have fancied the working conditions. I was here about an hour, I had a good explore. There is a small souvenir shop and I should say it closed at lunchtime the day I visited. That didn't affect me and it was possibly because I was here in March, not the height of the season.

The Law

Hiking area
The Law is a prominent hill in North Berwick, offering stunning panoramic views of the countryside and serving as a grazing spot for ponies. This award-winning seaside town is just 30 minutes from Edinburgh city center by train, making it an ideal place to reconnect with nature and explore various beaches and attractions. Comparable to Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat, The Law is a volcanic rock that looms over the town, providing a picturesque backdrop when viewed from the beaches.
Had a very fun hike with our puppy to the summit and back. Some parts are harder than others but with a good pair of boots and being cautious will get you through. Worth the climb for the views.
David S — Google review
Easy walk to the summit but 20 mins or so, amazing view of Berwick from the top, if your lucky you will get some horses approach for a good photo op.
Barry S — Google review
Half hour easy up to top. Even using a crutch (in the dry). Good sized free car park. Fantastic views as far as the Forth bridges, Tantallon castle, bass rock, gidra, beaches, Fife, etc. Large clamour of rooks (~300 birds) take to the air in the thermals when you get close to them.
Chris D — Google review
A brilliant walk with a beautiful view. Not too challenging you can't go with the kids but hard enough to make it worthwhile. Free parking and the beautiful town of North Berwick to visit after.
Iain S — Google review
Brilliant views on a clear day! Such beautiful countryside all around. A great walk to the tip and places to sit and take in the beauty.
Rod M — Google review
Great hike , about 25 Minutes up, not very demanding , I saw small kids out there with dogs, so level easy. Definitely worth going up as views are breathtaking. Sometimes it could be very windy, so think about taking a jumper and something to drink. A couple of benches along the way, I suggest to rest before the summit. Great place.
Tony M — Google review
magnificent hill. Easy to climb to the top. Stunning views. Wide parking.

National museum
The National Museum of Flight in East Lothian offers an immersive experience into the captivating world of aviation history. Situated at the historic East Fortune Airfield, this outdoor museum boasts a remarkable 4-hangar collection of aircraft, featuring iconic planes like Concorde and Boeing 707 that visitors can explore up close. The museum's interactive exhibits vividly narrate the tales of pioneering pilots and groundbreaking aerospace technology.
I really enjoyed the visit as I had been fascinated by Concorde as a kid. It was amazing to be able to step aboard an aircraft that has been consigned to history. The information boards were really quite interesting. The other two planes outside the hangars weren’t open to visitors at the time I was there (July, 2025) though, from signage, it seemed they had been in the past. Staff were nice.
Keith M — Google review
Brilliant day out. We thought 2 hours would be enough but we ended up spending 4.5 hours there. Loads of interesting things to see and do. Our whole family from aged 12 to 75 was entertained. The fantastic flight area where you go in a simulator, make paper aeroplanes and eject them was loads of fun. Staff were really passionate and helpful. Definitely recommend. Great family day out.
Rosa H — Google review
One of the remaining Concordes is located here. You can even take a walk inside of it! Though it’s a bit of a short ceiling so taller people could find it a little difficult to walk through. Highly recommend this museum. It also features a Vulcan, a Hawk(the Red Arrows version) and and even engines of the Concorde! A lot of information inside this museum, but for people looking for more I would recommend going to the RAF museum in London.
Fighterjetgeek — Google review
Fantastic day out! Lots to see and do across the various buildings at the site that to see everything, you will need the best part of the whole day. Obvious main attraction is Concorde which is well presented and has loads and loads of interesting information to digest if you like to read all the info boards (me!) I was particularly impressed with the video presentations and the hands on interactive elements which are well designed and appealing to both kids and adults alike. I wanted to visit for quite a while but never got around to it until now. So glad we spontaneously decided to jump across and visit when we did as it really is a great day out with so much to see and do. Highly recommended for a visit.
David M — Google review
This place really surprised me. So, so much more than a museum. Spread over a full airfield in many different aircraft hangars, there are more aircraft here than you can imagine. Get up close, see inside and imagine. Main attraction, Concorde is here. Stand below, touch the wheels, walk through the cabin, look inside the cockpit (scary that this could do over 1400 mph). All the history and details of all the aircraft are all here. We also loved the additional very informative talk on the restoration projects team. (Well worth adding) That hanger had everything...a random landrover, a girocopter, huge propeller aircraft engines to the engines off a nuclear bomb 😵...Very informative talk live on site explaining everything. I cannot recomend enough...100% recomend a visit. Don't go too late in the day though, you wont manage round it all before close. We were there at least 4-5 hrs and it went by in a flash. Loved it.
Alan B — Google review
It was great to return to East Fortune it's been many years since my last visit! Concorde is always an absolute highlight. It's truly a marvel of engineering. I would give anything to have experienced flying on it! Having just flown on a brand new A321 NEO Concorde is laughably small you need to crouch to get down to the cockpit! All the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable particularly in the restoration hanger. It's great to see investment in the site with new screens and visual guides to each of the planes around the hangers and the new parachute room. There are so many great exhibits for kids that teach them all about flight in a fun way. I would highly recommend a visit!
Michael B — Google review
Fantastic place to visit. The website really doesn't do it justice! Walk on board a Concorde and other big planes. The military hanger has a spitfire, harrier, tornado, jaguar and others. Lots of interactive displays throughout. Nice little cafe. Definitely worth a trip.
Mathew S — Google review
One of the best Aviation Museums to visit in the UK. I cam here using local buses in the Summer of 2019- I don't recommend doing that, use a car to get here! Amazing collection of civilian and military aircraft including Concorde, Avro Vulcan, Boeing 707 nose-section, BAC 1-11, DeHavilland Comet 4 and various others! I do recommend buying a ticket in advance.

Tantallon Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Tantallon Castle, located in East Lothian, is a former fortification and the seat of the Earls of Angus. This impressive castle stands on the edge of cliffs overlooking the North Sea and offers stunning views of Bass Rock. It was a stronghold of the Douglas family and has a rich history of conflicts with the crown, culminating in its destruction by Oliver Cromwell in 1651.
This castle is one worth visiting...if only for its setting. It is impressive and must have been something special in its day. Still impressive. One can access the battlements and enjoy the sea views. The doocot...dovecot...is closed off. There is plenty to justify a visit. There is parking by the entrance office. You don't have to park just of the road and walk a quarter of a mile to the entrance....unless you want to, of course. The steps up to the ramparts are steep via a narrow spiral staircase.
Duncan P — Google review
I've visited this castle several times over the years. It's a lovely location with beautiful views of the Bass rock. In my opinion it's well worth visiting if you like castles. I would like a little more history but I suppose you have to buy the booklet.
Mars B — Google review
If you have mobility issues this could be quite difficult for you. I had a scooter and only made it past the visitor centre. Beautiful castle steeped in history (I read the guide book fully) and sea birds a plenty. My boys spent two hours here and they loved it 💕
Theresa R — Google review
Easy to miss the tiny road to the parking area. Parking is free. The castle is beautiful. My favourite area of the castle was the prison where you can see the original medieval toilet. 🤷 There's no coffee shop in the area of the reception, so if you plan to eat there be prepared with sandwiches.

Wonderful walk through the history of the castle and area. Amazing views and loads of information, and great insight into the different stages of build through the life of the castle. Well worth a visit.

Dramatic castle ruins on the edge of the North Sea. Built by William Douglas @1350 besieged by James IV, James V and then finally Oliver Cromwell. The curtain wall is incredible and climbing to the top looking out on the Bass Rock makes this one of Scotlands Top 20 castles to visit. Part of Historic Scotlands spectacular attractions. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Really nice ruined castle. Very good for maybe 90 mins to two hours to potter around and enjoy the views. Lots of tight stairs to get up on the battlements though, so maybe avoid if you have mobility problems. No cafe, but there are toilets. Stop by Drift nearby if you need a caffeine and cake fix. Some parking close to the entrance, but if it's busy there's another bigger car park nearer the main road.

Absolutely love Tantallon Castle! Been here a few times and never get tired of it. The history, the views, and that stunning sight o Bass Rock — pure magic. A must-see spot on the Scottish coast!

We had lobster and chips - delicious. The lobster was really fresh. Half a lobster (you get half a body/tail and 2 claws!) for £29.95 - not cheap but worth the experience. Will try others on the menu next time.

Nice stop for fish and chips, area to sit and eat isn't too great but it's fine for a quick stop to have your fish and chips. Fish is super fresh and perfect.

We had the fish and chips and the fish tacos both were delicious. I would definitely recommend going here if you're in north Berwick. We sat outside eating our food in the harbour.

The Herringbone, located in North Berwick, offers a variety of creative cocktails, local craft beers, and liquors from nearby distilleries. The coastal-themed decor features exposed brick and whitewashed wood, creating a cool yet cozy atmosphere. The restaurant also provides an extensive wine selection. Visitors can enjoy delicious food with lovely presentation, including many vegan options.
We ordered 2 non-alcoholic cocktails, which were amazing. Probably the best non-alcoholic cocktails I've had before. We ordered the vegan options of Olives and Hummus, Winter Spiced Sweet Potato Parcel and Chocolate ganache and pear. All of our courses were absolutely delicious! The flavours, presentation, and quality of the ingredients were all perfect. Most enjoyable meal out I can remember! The staff were friendly and attentive and the ambience inside was relaxing. Glad we chose to eat there on our visit to North Berwick!
Connor D — Google review
We cannot say enough good things about Herringbone. We arrived to North Berwick later in the evening on a Monday night when not many other restaurants were still open. Herringbone was able to accommodate us for food and drinks just before their kitchen closed. We got the steak and butternut squash, both of which were delicious. Everything was so good we came back for dinner the next night. We got tasty cocktails and the fish sandwich and curry chicken. Again we had spectacular food and great service. We will definitely return on any future trips to North Berwick!
Meaghan F — Google review
Came for a family dinner and had a lovely night. Staff are faultless- super friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was great with nice live music that wasn’t overly loud. We had some bread and hummus and olives for starters and I had the gnocchi for main which was absolutely delicious. Had a raspberry margarita which was great as well. The lamb and chicken mains also looked amazing and such huge portions! Can’t recommend enough, will definitely come back if in the area again!

Booked a table for 13:00 hrs four people. Order was taken 13:10hrs. The menu online is not the same as the restaurant itself. There was several things missing like salmon, spaghetti and a few other important ingredients missing from the menu. Considering there's a co-op 3 doors down which I'm pretty sure they sold salmon spaghetti ect. Anyways after waiting 1 hour 15 minutes for my starter I asked the waiter why ut took so long, his reply was there's only 2 chefs. Firstly the place was quiet when we arrived, and saying thers only 2 chefs is a cop out. Anyways when the food arrived the curry was meaningless, the rice was stodgy and overcooked, the chip's where cold the chicken was as tuff as leather. The stripped steak slices where of a strange colour, look the whole experience was a complete disaster. And I mentioned this to the waitress when she asked if everything was ok. But I still paid over £100 and left most of our meal. Never again felt so ripped off 😪

I had been to the Abbeyhill one but this was my first visit here. Ambience and service great. We were here only for a short one-course lunch each. I had the chowder which was excellent as was my friend’s salmon burger. Would come back for a longer stay for sure.
Malcolm J — Google review
The service was really good, really nice waiters. I had the mussels (which comes with a tiny piece of bread) and they were amazing but then the lamb was really dry and bland and the couscous type of salad is really cold so bare that in mind. I must say the burger of the day was super good. Overall it was a bit expensive for what it is but the waiters were lovely.

Great Herringbone standards have been met! Friendly service, tasty burgers, cold beers! Can't wait to be back!

A really lovely family run Italian restaurant. You are greeted at the door like a long lost friend. The service was very good and friendly, plenty of genuine smiles. It's a small menu which changes every couple of weeks. All cooked to order. The fish of the day Rock Bass was excellent. This is a small restaurant with about 30 covers and you definitely need to book quite a long way in advance. A most enjoyable evening and one we will try to repeat.

Loved their homemade tagliolini tossed with courgettes and chestnut mushrooms on a pecorino cheese fondue! Al dente, aromatic, and creamy, silky in the mouth. A genuine delight to have lunch here followed by a nice beach walk. Good location, too. Good recommendation of rose. We felt welcome and the front-of-house was flawless to complement such talented kitchen team. Super good value for money for their 3-course lunch menu.

I visited North Berwick last week and asked my hosts to book a good restaurant for us. They did and it was GOOD. It ranks as one of the best I have ever dined in. Unfortunately we didn’t have a photograph taken there so the photo’ was taken whilst having a nightcap.

Quite simply one of the nicest meals I’ve had for a long time. The staff were attentive but also eminently approachable. Just lovely restaurant with lovely staff. Don’t forget to have the whisky barrel aged grappa at the end😀
Richard — Google review
12 of us sat down for dinner, and the owner says someone else has the reservation. I made this reservation earlier in the year and confirmed by phone in August. I have this written down. The owner claims folks coming on Wednesday night then asked for Friday and had our space. Sleazy at best, more likely plain dishonesty at this establishment. The owner claims this is all our opinion. Don’t trust their phone or email.
Ted L — Google review
The rose-red slices of raw beef fillet are cut expertly thin, almost translucent, and streaked with fat. Yet this carpaccio is so soft, so melty, so full of feels in the mouth, I come perilously close to abandoning my principles. It’s drizzled with taleggio cheese fondue, lighter and less ripe than hoped for, closer to a mild cream. Dessert is a perfect tiramisu, all unending (and unfinishable) ruffles of cream and savoiardi soaked in booze.

Cafe
Drift is a unique coffee house located in North Berwick, offering breathtaking views of the unspoilt Firth of Forth coast and the Bass Rock. The modern cafe, made up of six wooden-clad shipping containers, provides panoramic views and is popular among locals as well as tourists visiting Tantallon Castle. As a member of Scottish Agritourism, Drift offers a seasonal menu with 90-95% of its produce sourced from Scotland.
This isn't my first visit, but everything about the place makes it worth the two and a bit hour drive from Newcastle. On this visit I had the salmon poke bowl which had generous cubes of smoked salmon rather than the usual sliced salmon which gave a totally different flavour and texture. The service was great as was the atmosphere and the view.
Ian B — Google review
Looks a great place to stop with great views but we didn't stop for a drink or anything as they said they were fully booked. I asked about the 2 empty tables, only to be told they were reserved. I asked when were they reserved and the time the girl gave me was over half an hour later so we would have had time to have a coffee but she wouldn't let us sit at either of the 2 tables.

Lovely atmosphere and fabulous view. The food was kinda okay, nothing great to be honest but the service was lovely. Definitely worth the visit for the view, I would go again and try out their drinks next time! Book in advance to get a nice window seat.

What a vibe!!! So chilled and beautiful place to sit and relax. The staff was really nice! We didn’t book a table (best to book) but they managed to find us a table and changed us a bigger table when it got available. The food was amazing! Reuben sandwiches. Yum!!! Be mindful that sitting outside has a different menu, but still looks a big menu to choose from. Afterwards, we walked for an hour along the coast to get back to North Berwick. So for those who want to come without a car, feel free to take bus 120 or walk.
Wei F — Google review
Myself and my sister visited Drift Cafe after seeing it on Instagram. It did not disappoint. The entire surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. Like something out of a film. We felt we were a million miles from our stresses and worries. We noticed a sauna on site which we’d definitely try in future. There are also little benches which would be perfect for taking in the scenery. The cafe itself was busy which we expected but we were still able to get seated. It was clear that most people are keen to take a window seat given how stunning the views are. The staff were so lovely and very welcoming, making us feel right at home. We arrived after 3pm so were unable to get hot food. However, we had a coffee and cake. The coffee was really nice and the cake was delicious and the portion was big. We even took another two away with us! The types of cakes on offer included combinations like cinnamon and plum, orange and blackberry, so not your usual plain cakes. I really loved the fact that the menu was so vast and it appeared to have seasonal touches too, making this cafe even more special. There’s no wifi but we loved the little sign suggesting you talk to one another as was the case before wifi was around! Neither of us wanted to leave and we felt totally calm and at peace there. We noticed they have some items for sale such as candles, jams and books plus a map of Scotland and a guide of the surrounding areas which was a lovely added touch. It definitely seemed the type of place you’d want to explore and the cafes location is perfect. It’s the kind of place you’d enjoy visiting in all types of weathers. We love quaint scenic cafes, especially coastal ones, and this one was magnificent! We can’t wait to come back again and have already recommended it to our friends and family.

We had a wonderful time visiting the restaurant after our hike. They're dog friendly and cook deliciously. Tried the breaded fish (half portion) and chips and their signature burger with bacon and cheese both are recommended. Our puppy got a bowl of water and snacks too, the chef even snuck him some sausages of course he asked first if it was okay. Managed to find parking nearby as well.

It's very unusual for us to find somewhere that does gluten and lactose free, a vegetarian option and is dog friendly but The Rocketeer ticked all the boxes. My husband had the gluten free fish which he said was delicious. I had the veggie burger which was good and my daughter had the kids cheese burger. The staff were friendly and gave Benji lots of attention. Our daughter is autistic and although over 12, it was no hassle for her to eat from the kids menu. The cans of juice were very reasonably priced. We are glad to have found somewhere so good and will be back the next time we visit North Berwick

Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. My steak was utterly delicious and could have been cut with a blunt butter knife! It was cooked to perfection! My husband had a burger which he said was absolutely delicious and was beautifully presented. Even though we were full we simply had to try the sundaes.....the Scottish one and the Shortbread & Tablet one. Wow! Fabulous! We left with very full tummies and a vow to return next time we are in North Berwick! Lovely, welcoming and friendly staff!

Wonderful service, amazing steak, the Stilton sauce was fantastic. Really good macaroni cheese, chips and onion rings were nice - hot and crisp as they should be. Maybe some more wines to choose from would be good, and Belgian beers to pair with the steak. Wife’s peppercorn sauce was average. But minor niggles on what was a lovely night and the staff were so nice.

Lovely hotel to stay at the Marine. Lovely staff. Huge car park if you are driving. Great breakfast. We were in North Berwick for a wedding so not much time for anything else. The Marine has potential to be a great hotel. Its grand, the spa is excellent and the sea views are incredible. Unfortunately, it isn't a great hotel. Our room wasn't ready and we waited in the lobby for 20 minutes. The breakfast service was dreadful with long waits to order and nothing restocked at the buffet. If they can improve these service aspects they could be great but a luxury hotel should not give reasons to complain about service issues.

Room was basic. Wallpaper horrific, made it claustrophobic. Room wasn't serviced daily, except when I was having a nap, a gentleman walked i to my room and switched the light on. Not sure what he wanted but I was a bit shaken. !! Food on first night. I had chicken supreme which was tasteless. My husband almost had his croissant snat he'd from him at breakfast. Waiter then lifted gmhus ham and put it back on his plate with his fingers. !!! Spa was terrific. As was service from all staff. The bar is beautifully renovated as is lounge. But on the whole not sure I would come back.

A wee weekend trip to North Berwick. After walking the town, we were looking for a good nice place to eat. Ended up in Zitto, to be honest one of the best food and service experience I had in a long time. Wonderful tapas as shown in the pictures, the prawns and haggis both were 10/10. Main course was little bland but the presentation was descent. Definitely recommend to people looking for a cute and comfy place to have lunch in Berwick.

The staff were very welcoming and kind and had a nice vibe. The pizza and garlic bread were excellent. The spaghetti carbonara was alright, however the chicken in the risotto was a bit smelly and I didn’t enjoy that dish very much as a result. The price was also reasonable compared to how much we had purchased.

Nice little place. Fresh calamari and mussels were lovely, chorizo Mac and cheese really good. Arancini not the best I’ve had and the sauce could have been better. For the portions, I found the price expensive. Fully aware some things are tapas but still, a bit high.

After a long day of exploring, sometimes the best way to unwind is with a comforting meal. That’s exactly what I did when I opted for takeaway fish and chips from the renowned North Berwick Fry. Enjoying my feast on the balcony while watching the sun dip below Fidra and Bass Rock was pure bliss! This charming seaside spot isn’t just about stunning views; it also boasts friendly staff and a cozy dine-in experience that makes you feel right at home.
Really well made Haddock, lightly battered and deep fried. Decent chips.

Noteworthy because of high prices and sub-par food. The chips were fine - average chip shop chips - but the fish was smallish and greasy. Very poor value for £12:50 and to put the boot in the tiny bottles of ketchup were £3.70.

Food was good, although there were a couple of bits of skin on the fish which i didnt like but thats just my personal opinion. Staff were nice and friendly. Atmosphere was a bit awkward as we were the only ones there but we shouldve came at a better time so thats our fault not the place’s. Overall really nice place, would recommend ☺️👍

Fish and chips..takeaway. Freshly prepared in golden thin tempura. Hot and extremely good. We ate sitting on a bench by the sea. I recommend ! A very nice, smiling salesman (probably the owner of the place). We will definitely come back whenever we come there.

Ordered two fish and chips last night, good portion, fish was fresh and extremely tasty and the chips were great too. Nice smiley service and the man that served us (the owner?) was generous with chippy sauce and salt. Great place!

I ate here today and had a wonderful fish and chips supper. I got a delicious Coke for a drink. I think that maybe it was the owners who served me. They were great. I sat outside on one of the tables and watched people go by in this really friendly town. Next time I come to Scotland, I'll stay in this town. Bring the kids...

Our go to eatery when visiting the lovely North Berwick. We have used the North Berwick fry for the past 30+ years and will continue to do so. The owner still remembers us even if we haven't visited for a year. Always tasty always hot, can't beat it. My kids look forward to their chippy as it's better than chippy's at home.

Not a bad place to go. The food was pretty average at best nothing to special(a little pricey) but the manager was really friendly. You could tell he loved talking to people which made it really. You can tell he loves what he's does so I got a lot of respect for that. The only big downside I would say is that the toilets were a bit grim and not that well kept. But the main food area was pretty clean tho. So overall I would give it a fair 6/10. I would give it more if it wasn't for the toilets.

Edinburgh Airport

International airport
Airport
Edinburgh Airport serves both domestic and international flights, with convenient shuttle bus and tram links to the city center. For those looking for a unique experience, a small-group whisky tour takes you from Edinburgh to the scenic Lowlands and forested Highlands to visit Dewars Distillery. In the Old Town, White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar offers fresh seafood and shellfish in a historic setting.
For an international airport, it is somewhat small with only a single concourse. Customs is an absolute breeze here, moving people through at a good pace. Excellent signage throughout, easy to navigate, and not very large. Excellent access to public transportation (bus, tram) and a well organized taxi rank. Some options for eating and coffee as well as a few convenience stores for smaller things (snacks, drinks, forgotten tech cables).

small airport that only has one terminal and few seats (and little space!) at the gates so there is quite some crowding when boarding begins. the security checks run quickly and smoothly because you don't need to unpack anything (including liquids). I felt quite relaxed during our time at this airport, though that might have something to do with all the pubs close to the gates.

Arriving at Edinburgh Airport was a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. The airport felt modern, spacious, and well-organized, making check-in and security quick and hassle-free. The friendly staff added to the welcoming atmosphere, ensuring everything ran efficiently. I especially appreciated the range of shops, cafés, and dining options, which made waiting for my flight comfortable and convenient. Clear signage and easy connections to transport links made getting to the city effortless. Edinburgh Airport turned what could have been a stressful travel day into a pleasant and seamless experience.

✈️ My Visit to Edinburgh Airport My experience at Edinburgh Airport (EDI) was smooth, efficient, and well-organized. As Scotland’s busiest airport, it offers a great mix of international and domestic connections, modern facilities, and clear signage throughout. The check-in and security process was fast and well-managed, with friendly staff ensuring a hassle-free experience. The terminal area was clean and comfortable, with plenty of seating, good Wi-Fi, and a wide selection of shops, cafés, and restaurants. I especially appreciated the convenient tram and bus links connecting the airport to Edinburgh city centre — affordable and punctual. Travel Tips: Arrive at least 2 hours before short-haul flights and 3 hours for long-haul. The Edinburgh Trams are the easiest way to reach the airport from the city, taking about 30 minutes. Overall, Edinburgh Airport is a well-run, traveller-friendly gateway to Scotland — modern, efficient, and welcoming.

Big fan of the person who allocates taxis with a big ipad at departures and the efficiency and the regular trams that go from central straight to the station in just 30 mins and for £7.50 - £8. Trains run effectively every 5 minutes! It’s a great system! Prayer room facilities available also for all people of faith

We caught a late-night flight to Dublin, and everything went really smoothly. There was no rush at check-in—actually, the place was almost empty. Getting to the airport from the city center was super easy too. Just hop on bus #100 and you're there—simple as that. The same goes for getting into the city from the airport. There are three airport buses: the Airlink 100, and the Skylink 200 and 400. But the Airlink 100 is the one to go for—it takes you straight to the city center. On the map, its stop is marked as the green "A." This airport serves around 14.7 million passengers a year and takes pride in being the place “where Scotland meets the world.” It offers all the modern amenities you'd expect—lounges, currency exchange, prayer rooms, and more. Trolleys are easy to find too, with collection points all around the airport campus. Since it was so late, all the shops were closed, so we didn’t get a chance to check out the food or do any shopping. Security was quick and getting to the gate was a breeze—it's not a huge airport. It was a Ryanair flight, so there was no jet bridge—we had to walk to the plane, which was a bit unusual for us.

🇬🇧 Review about Edinburgh Airport Edinburgh Airport has a serious drawback that I find unfair to passengers — they charge £6 just to get into a taxi, if you haven’t pre-booked one. This is an unnecessary and unreasonable fee that puts travelers in an uncomfortable position, especially after a long flight. For those who want to avoid this extra charge, there’s a much better option — simply walk out of the airport area to the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, which is only about a 5-minute walk away. From there, you can easily find regular taxis at much better rates, without paying the additional £6 fee. It’s important for travelers to know this alternative, since the airport does not provide clear information about these charges or the available transport options outside its area.
