The Pines

Restaurant
Nestled near Skala Beach, The Pines Restaurant is a popular spot among tourists, offering a wide array of traditional dishes such as grilled sardine, calamari, and chicken tikka masala. The restaurant also boasts an extensive selection of local wines to complement the dining experience. Housed in a vibrant traditional building with well-furnished interiors and neatly arranged tables, it provides an inviting atmosphere to immerse in the local culture.
We visited The Pines several times during our holiday, and every visit was a highlight. The food was outstanding – fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully cooked. From grilled meats and creamy sauces to crisp fries, roasted vegetables, and especially the fabulous breakfasts, everything was consistently delicious. The setting is relaxed and charming, with a lovely atmosphere that made every meal feel special. Whether starting the day with a perfect breakfast or enjoying a relaxed dinner in the evening breeze, The Pines never disappointed. What truly made our experience unforgettable was Vis, the most wonderful waiter we’ve ever met. Warm, friendly, and always attentive, he made us feel completely at home. His hospitality added so much joy to our holiday – we looked forward to seeing him as much as the food! The Pines isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Kefalonia! 🌺

A lovely family-run restaurant with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Pines offers a nice variety of dishes, including tasty desserts and a good selection of drinks. It’s conveniently located just above Skala Beach, making it a perfect stop whether you’re in the mood for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The service was excellent — even with a larger group, we barely had to wait. Prices felt fair, and overall, I had a really positive experience. Definitely a cozy spot worth visiting if you’re in the area.

Wile we were visiting beautiful town Skala we stopped here for lunch. I go lunch special- grilled sardines my husband got fish and chips. Everything was delicious. I also tried some Robola wine( must have if you a wine lover)

Brilliant place on every aspect. Service was so cheerful if would lift everyone's mood. Prawn Saganaki ( see photo), was amazing. Definitely recommend:)
Phil D — Google review
Such a beautiful place in Skala that offers a wide menu of traditional and continental food for all tastes. The food comes relatively fast (in 30 minutes) and is super tasty. I had the prawns saganaki that was delicious, coming with a side. The souvlaki is also delicious, like you would expect in Greece. The service is cool and prompt and very careful to bring or take what you need. The place is very cozy, simple, and nicely decorated.
Ana-Maria A — Google review
Simply outstanding!!!! The customer service is just amazing, a proper family run buisness where nothing is too much trouble. The food itself as excellent with an extensive menu, with many traditional Greek dishes. I had the beef stifado and my wife had the excellent moussaka. All in all and excellent meal in a stunning location.
Alistair H — Google review
Excellent place to eat lunch at Scala beach. All food was very tasty, served very fast. The waiters are very friendly and provide good advices if you are not sure what you want to eat. For 7 people we payed around 160 euros and food was served in 10 minutes for the appetisers and another 15-20 minutes for the main course. I really recomand this restaurant!
Cristian B — Google review
Returned to Skala Kefalonia 28th September to 5th October and dined in The Pines restaurant in Skala most evenings, a lovely restaurant. Great food choices, very fresh and delicious, great views, lovely atmosphere and service was excellent, couldn't fault them at all, a big thank you to all the staff. Overall a great holiday until I landed at Stansted where the captain of the flight announced that there had been an outbreak of novavirus or Gastroenteritis at 2 hotels in Skala which delayed us getting home until everyone on board were checked. Hope it didn't spoil anyones holiday. Looking forward to my return to skala next year 😁

Holiday apartment rental
During my recent getaway, I had the pleasure of staying at Socrates Apartments, and it was truly a delightful experience. This charming accommodation boasts modern amenities, including a refreshing shower and air conditioning, all complemented by a spacious balcony perfect for unwinding after sun-soaked days. The daily cleaning service added an extra touch of comfort to my stay. Located just a stone's throw from both the beach and the bustling high street, Socrates Apartments offers convenience alongside its stylish appeal.
We had the most fabulous stay at Socrates Apartment. The apartment is super modern and fresh, with a great shower, aircon and large balcony. The room was cleaned every day which was lovely to come back to after a tiring day of tanning! The location is great, it’s a very short walk to both the beach and main high street. Not only is the apartment outstanding, but the staff and restaurant below the apartment are incredible. The food was the best we had in Skala, definitely recommend! Dimitri and Eleni were super kind, helpful and felt like they always went the extra mile. Overall, lovely stay, although we are still waiting for the secret lemon pie recipe ;)
Tom B — Google review
Eleni and Socrates are best hosts. They help in a minute you say you have any problem or question. We had an 1 room apartment and it was well equipped, big, 2 air conditioners and 2 tv, very big bathroom. The beach is 2 minutes away and good tavernas around, mini markets or bakeries. For a best holiday Socrates Apartments is the comfortable, relaxing choice!
Tavi M — Google review
For the second year I have just stayed in Socrates Apartments & had a lovely relaxing holiday. I truly love the modern vibe to this place, so clean & very comfortable. I always choose a garden view but others are available. Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful Eleni, Socrates, Dimitri & family. Just mention something & it happens. Filoxenia at its best. Air con, refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, iron & safe all in your aptmnt. Towels & sheets changed very regularly & beautifully soft & white. I have already booked for sometime next year. Close to all amenities. Great Place.

We are regular visitors to Skala over many years but this is our first time staying at The SocratesApartments. From our first enquiry about availability and dates our experience has been faultless. We received the warmest of welcomes from Eleni on our arrival and had many friendly and helpful interactions with the family during our 10 day stay. Our room and bathroom was wonderfully spacious and comfortable and there were many thoughtful touches that enhanced our stay. Eleni and her family made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The renovated accommodation is superb and the location is ideal. Just a short walk from the beach, restaurants and shops. We look forward to returning for another stay soon.
Sheila D — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful place with wonderfully furnished rooms. Everything you might need is here, plus really comfortable beds and pillows. :) Eleni and her family made our stay more enjoyable every single day – not only with their daily smiles and greetings, but also with our regular coffee together on the terrace. We truly felt at home here, as if we were with our own family. Not only Kefalonia itself and the town of Skala, but also Eleni’s family left us with beautiful memories and experiences. We hope to meet again soon.

Taverna Apostolis

Mentioned on
2 lists
$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Taverna Apostolis is a charming restaurant located on a quiet side street in Skala, offering a tranquil setting away from the bustling tourist resort. Despite its slightly remote location, it is popular during high season, so reservations are essential for evening dining. The restaurant offers great value for money with generous portions and a wide selection of drinks. It features a lovely outdoor area with a play area for children. The menu includes smaller Greek meze dishes and succulent traditional souvlaki.
Excellent service, everyone I interacted with was very friendly despite them being busy and us not having a reservation. We waited shortly for a table outside and were quickly placed, while having them touch base with us to let us know the status of the table several times. Very pleasant. Nice house wine, we had the white. Excellent tatziki, Greek salad was just okay in our opinion lacking a little flavor compared to usual but the feta used was top quality. The traditional stew was huge and very good, be prepared to eat a lot of meat (beef). The moussaka was great, also huge, we ate most all but felt bad we wouldn’t finish everything as the portions were very generous and we wanted to try several dishes while we were there. Highly recommend, will return if we get the chance.
Grant G — Google review
Stunning experience at this wonderful gem of a restaurant. The food was excellent and the service second to none. I had the chicken souvlaki which was wonderful and vibrant and full of flavour, my wife had the veal which was Cooked perfectly. We went for my daughters birthday and they even brought out a birthday cake for us with a candle in and all sang happy birthday, which made it even more special. This is what first class customer service should be like. Many thanks to all the wonderful staff who looked after us.
Alistair H — Google review
Delicious food, kind staff and quick service. They have kids menu aswell. At the end kids have received free ice-cream and adults a free shot of alcoholic drink. Very clean bathrooms.
Szocska A — Google review
Traditionell authentic Greek food. Exactly what we were looking for. At this amazing Taverna you get what you are craving for. If you wanna eat outside place a reservation prior. The waiters are kind and the kitchen is fast and delicious. So they also have da daily special. This time we just wanted starters but once we arrived there I couldn't ignore the delicious smell of lamb. So get a Lamb souvlaki it's tender and juicy. Guys don't forget the house wine rose ;) Thanks a lot for an amazing dinner 🥂
Dominik N — Google review
Always a great meal at Apostolis. We were staying in Trapesaki but headed over to Skala for the day. We booked our table as they are very popular. Highly recommend. Cheese & spinach pies, giant beans, lamb chops & apple pie & ice cream for dessert.
Alison R — Google review
Our favorite restaurant in Kefalonia. Super nice owners, great hospitality and perfect food. That felt like a real Greece taverna.
Benjamin S — Google review
After being too late to eat here last year as it had closed for the end of the season, I was delighted to be able to get in for some food this time. I took a chance and managed to get in early but it looked like all the tables were booked so you probably need to book ahead if you definitely want to eat here. Had saganaki and then moussaka and both were beautiful. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Thankyou for squeezing in a very wet tourist who had run up the hill in the pouring rain! I will definitely be back next time I am in Skala.

Ta Pitharia Tavern

Mentioned on
2 lists
$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Ta Pitharia Tavern is a delightful Greek eatery that offers delectable dishes at reasonable prices. While the variety of desserts may be limited, their partner savored the pork loin in a rich mushroom and blue cheese sauce, while enjoying the chicken greco. Both dishes were served with flavorful rice and left a lasting impression.
What a fantastic find Thoroughly enjoyed eating at Ta Pitharia Taverna - Greek salad (small size chosen as wanted to have room for main!) enough for 2, really delicious, mains Gyros and a new one on us Kontosouvli - large chunks of marinated pork which had been spit roasted, amazing - will be revisiting this place! Also the rose’ wine was fabulous.
Scott W — Google review
We came for dinner, and judging by the number of guests, we assumed the food must be good at this restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes — shrimp, zucchini, moussaka, shellfish, Greek salad, and finally, dessert. The food ranged from impressive to disappointing. The shrimp was truly excellent and deserves praise. The chocolate soufflé, on the other hand, tasted like it was made by a beginner. The shellfish in white wine sauce were great, while the moussaka was just average. However, the biggest issue was that the kitchen clearly couldn’t handle the number of guests that evening. We waited far too long for our food, and what was listed as a starter arrived at the same time as the main courses. The waiter was overwhelmed and in chaos — understandably due to the crowd — but unfortunately, that led to a lack of attention and zero friendliness. Smiles and basic hospitality were completely missing. For the first time ever, I didn’t leave a tip — not out of spite, but because it truly didn’t feel deserved. The whole experience felt like eating at a fast-food place — except everything was “fast” except the preparation of food. It’s a shame, but I had to be honest. Prices are standard, like in other local tavernas.
Alex R — Google review
Prawn saganaki amazing and also the fried courgettes. We had lovely gyros too. Lovely Greek traditional taverna
Clare P — Google review
Lovely food Not expensive for fish and seafood. Service is fine but could be a bit more friendly
Emma J — Google review
Great service and food and right in the middle of town with a good atmosphere!
Callum — Google review
It was perfect. We ordered 8-9 small dishes and except one, I would give 10/10 the others. The kitchen was quite fast and the waiters were sooo friendly. I genuinely recommend this place!
Mehmet K — Google review
Very beautiful and tradicional greek restaurant with affordable prices🙂
Vuk R — Google review
I can't fault Ta Pithatia, we were getting stuck for where to go, it being late season and many places were already closed for the winter. Ended up here despite some of the mixed reviews. We got exactly what we were looking for, trad good value food with no faf. Two people 3 courses and total cost 55 euros. That in a tourist trap like Skala is really not bad at all. Several groups of locals were also among the tourists, which has to be a good sign. Great also if you are a cat lover as the local cats seem to congregate around the street waiting for fish leftovers. I must add that the restaurant does have signs up warning not to feed the cats but hey "This is Greece!" as one local said to me. Meaning, what are rules if not to be ignored. My favourite dishes, Moussaka, Baklava (hot with lovely coconut ice cream)

Restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant resort town of Skala, Flamingo Restaurant offers an authentic Greek taverna experience with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio provides stunning views of the Ionian Sea and the nearby beach, creating a picturesque dining setting. The menu showcases traditional Greek dishes like stifado, moussaka, and souvlaki, while also offering indulgent desserts at the onsite ice cream parlor.
Certainly one of our top 2 restaurants in Skala, determined over many holidays in this lovely resort. Wonderful traditional atmosphere, it's a popular, bustling place to eat, with delicious food and great service, right in the heart of the village. The Kefalonia meat pie, the beef stifado, and the moussaka are outstanding. Recommended.

First dinner in Skala. Pretty solid overall. 42€ for two dinners and liter of house white wine. My lamb shank was really great. Wife’s Kefalonia meat pie she thought would have a crunchy phyllo top but it was more chewy & not crunchy. We have never ordered this before so maybe this is just how it is? Don’t know.
Rick M — Google review
Tasty feta baked in oven, hand cut fries, squid, halloumi. Polite service, comfortable location. Indoor and outdoor. Recommended!
Olivér T — Google review
Our favourite restaurant after a week in Skala! Greek food is fantastic, very attended service and they didn't kind when we stayed very late one day chatting! We voted this place as our favourite for all of us and reasonable prices for the area.
Jessica W — Google review
This was our third visits of this restaurant and it never disappoint. Firstly, the food. We enjoyed the seafood platter 2 years ago and the plate was just the same as before - plentiful and tasteful! Our adult kids devoured scrumptious lamb chop. Secondly, the atmosphere. They have a lovely courtyard at the back of the restaurant - highly recommend you sit there rather than on the high street. Thirdly the service. It’s crisp and efficient - no complaint there. It is nice to see the restaurant so popular hasn’t changed for a few years and still offers great food. Packed by 8 pm though - need to book if you are going there after 8 pm.
Mariko A — Google review
Excellent restaurant a really good vibe lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Very popular so best to book in advance. Staff are great friendly and professional and really look after you,and make you feel really welcome. A good extensive menu with vegetarian and traditional Greek dishes, cooked and presented very well. A must visit restaurant in Skala

The Old Village

Restaurant
The Old Village is a charming traditional taverna located on the main street of Skala, offering a delightful dining experience. One of its highlights is the renowned Kefalonian meat pie, served in a clay pot with light and crispy filo pastry. The extensive menu features various traditional dishes that can be enjoyed in the picturesque garden adorned with bougainvillea. This hidden gem also serves big breakfasts and offers discounts for early dinner diners, along with complimentary brandy.
Our first meal at The Old Village this trip and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the lovely atmosphere. The location is quite a busy one, and the restaurant is close to others that spill out into the street, but here the tables are mostly to the rear, so it's very quiet which suits us. Recommended.
Chris B — Google review
This lovely happy restaurant saved our holiday! We were slightly out of season and although other restaurants had vegan offerings - they actually didn’t have any. Thankfully The Old Village had such a brilliant vegan menu we ate there and tried everything - all of it was delicious. The service is 10/10 the food is fabulous and the portions are huge. We loved it and can’t thank them enough xxx
Kelly B — Google review
Wow! Fantastic vegan options. The staff were welcoming and friendly too. I had their vegan gyros (with extra pitta to share) which was a decent lunch portion. They also had Greek salad (with vegan feta! What legends). Absolutely recommend - enjoyed by both a meat eater and a vegan :) Thank you!
Jess — Google review
We came here on a whim. Just walked past and saw it and thought it looked nice. There were only 5 of us present so service was good. Food came quickly and was hot and more importantly delicious. Perfect lunch amount! Would recommend here for sure! Really lovely spot!
Lisa P — Google review
Lovely shaded rear garden, welcome respite from the heat! Very friendly staff, decent menu, a bit limited for lunch choices though. The evening one looked better. Very reasonable prices and tasty food.
Sue L — Google review
Came here for breakfast twice and the food was great 😊
Alice C — Google review
We had a wonderful meal at The Old Village on Main Street in Skala. We sat in the back garden area. They have an extensive menu with lots of options for meat eaters. But most importantly they have a VEGAN menu with lots of choices. As a vegetarian they substituted the vegan feta for regular feta on my dish. My husband had the Kefalonian Meat Pie which was fresh and individually made. I ordered the Imam and it was delicious and topped with Feta cheese. We shared a Greek Salad that was fresh and tasty. As a traveler in Greece, I know how hard it is to get a real composed dish suitable for vegans and/or vegetarians. It’s wonderful not having to order off the appetizer menu and taking chances on sauces and rice. Bravo to The Old Village for respecting all your guests.
Joyce C — Google review
What a fabulous find this was. A dedicated vegan menu including Greek specialities was such a treat! It was that good we visited twice trying the kebabs, gyros, a burger and aubergine imam all was amazing tasty fresh and served with a smile. I highly recommend this lovely bistro restaurant to anyone who finds themselves in Skala

Galera Restaurant Bar

Mentioned on
2 lists
Restaurant
Galera Restaurant Bar, situated in the charming coastal village of Skala, offers a diverse menu showcasing enticing dishes from both traditional Greek and local cuisine. This delightful taverna stands just a short distance away from the bustling tourist area, ensuring reasonable prices and a peaceful atmosphere. The food is exceptional, with must-try homemade specialties like Kleftiko and kokkinisto. Generously portioned meals are a trademark of Galera, reflecting the customary generosity found throughout Kefalonia.
A lovely neighborhood restaurant in Skala. Located off the Main Street on Papagou, it has been open since 2001. They have seating in the patio in the shade, and have added seating in the courtyard across from the restaurant. We had never been, and decided to give it a try. We had excellent service by Spiros. We dined early and did not need a reservation. Everything we ordered was tasty. They offer traditional Greek cuisine with a bit of British influence.
Joyce C — Google review
We were lucky to be staying right next to this wonderful restaurant. From the very first day, it won us over, so we happily came back several times. Besides the delicious food, we truly appreciated the professionalism of the staff who served us — they answered all our questions and were extremely friendly. For us, it’s not only about the location and the food, but also about the people, because they are the ones who give a place its soul and make you feel welcome. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!
Miss J — Google review
We tried tzatziki with pita bread and sesame-crusted Camembert for starters. The crusted Camembert was especially good. For the main course, we had the sea bass, which was also very tasty. Overall, a satisfying dining experience.
Alina T — Google review
Great restaurant for dinner at the new square , with very nice atmosphere and very friendly and professional staff. We had the best tuna steak and for dessert the homemade pavlova with fresh strawberries and berries.
Tasos M — Google review
Amazing place to eat. We are here now and this is the only restaurant that we have returned to during our stay. The food is excellent and the service also- the staff are very friendly and chatty. I actually came back here specifically for the fish and chips! My wife had chicken stuffed with feta this evening and enjoyed also. The restaurant itself is on the road behind most of the 'seafront' restaurants but only a couple of minutes walk and well worth the effort.
Rob B — Google review
Very nice food and great service. All very reasonably priced.
Ben E — Google review
The starters were excellent, variety of dips and spring rolls. The steak pie had a nice flavour with plenty of meat, with a thin crust of pastry on top, the filling was watery. No vegetables/salad served with the dish. The moussaka was average, not too much bechamel sauce but lacked meat and seasoning. The honeycomb salad was nice good to have different variety of salad leaves.
Bubbles — Google review
Stunning food and very welcoming service. The flavours really popped in every dish and the camembert started I would highly recommend.

Restaurant
Taverna Manolis is a family-owned Greek barbecue restaurant that offers a great experience for meat lovers. The staff is friendly and provides excellent service. The food quality is top-notch, with delicious lamb chops and appetizers on the menu. The portions are generous, and the overall dining experience at Manolis is highly recommended. It's advisable to make a reservation during peak season. This taverna goes above and beyond expectations, offering mouthwatering food that speaks for itself.
Owners who take a pride in the food and service they deliver. Food cooked on an open grill adds to the atmosphere and you can sit in the garden, patio or inside where you can see the 'open' kitchen bustle. I enjoyed the portion of souvlaki which was 4 large chicken kebabs. Other half had crispy sea bream. Both cooked over charcoal, both delicious and again huge portions. Mine could have fed us both! A lovely touch was the complimentary yogurt with homemade jam. They seriously care about your experience. A very busy restaurant and you can see why. Relaxed dining at its best.

If you're in Skala, Kefalonia, and someone mentions heading to Makis Grillhouse for a meal, prepare yourself for an unforgettable dining experience that far surpasses fast food options. This family-run taverna specializes in traditional Greek cuisine cooked over charcoal and on the spit, ensuring every dish is bursting with flavor. The warm atmosphere created by Makis and his welcoming family makes it feel like home.
A wonderful host who greet you like a friend. Worth seeking out for the 'big beans' alone! Absolutely delicious. Portions are large here. Mains come with rice, salad and the tastiest potatoes. €11 fish, €12 mixed souvlaki, €5 half litre gluggable white wine. Whats not to love!
Stephen W — Google review
Best meal of our holiday so far. The staff are SO friendly and welcoming. The whole atmosphere was just wonderful. We shared pita and tzatziki (the best), then I had lamb souvlaki, and my partner had the roast lamb. HUGE portions and the meat so tasty and tender. We had to take some away for our lunch the next day because we couldn't eat it all. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the following night. Warm bread with olive oil, pork with peppers, onion and garlic, and cod fillet. Gorgeous food again. This is what a greek taverna is all about. Fantastic place, which I highly recommend.
D L — Google review
Excellent meal with lovely warm friendly service. Worth the trek up to the top end of town. Brilliant value for money from the freshly cooked grill.
Mark C — Google review
Very lovely restaurant! Food was absolutely amazing. We had dinner 3 times for our stay. When we come back we will definitely come back here!
Alin L — Google review
Makis Grillhouse is the BEST restaurant in all of Skala. Delicious daily specials. Offering meat cooked on a spit, grilled and oven (their Kefalonian Meat pie is delicious and authentic). Ask Makis for Vegan and Vegetarian options. They have many choices if you ask. They have the best dips and their tzatziki is the best I’ve ever had. They also have Mythos Beer on draft 🍺. Much of their produce is from their own fields. And save room for sweets! It’s located away of the busy Main Street on a nice residential street just off of Main Street. Reservations are recommended during peak season or during the busy dinner hour. We always arrive early or later, and have always been able to get a table. Makis and his family are spectacular hosts and will always make you feel welcome. And after a few visits you will feel like family and like you are coming home. And you won’t want to eat anywhere else in Skala because their menu is very wide with delicious options. They are open for dinner only. Top recommendation!!
Joyce C — Google review
Amazing service and food. We were a bit difficult and asked for 3 separate bills for 4 people. (This was probably done because it was not so busy) The recommendation of lamb was delicious. We would definitely recommend and come back again.

Fantastic meal with an exceptional host. The taverna is down a back street in up hill Skala but well worth the effort to find it. Authentic Greek food with outstanding service at a great price. We had fried cheese and olives as a starters and bream and Kefalonian meat pie for mains, it was all delicious.

The attentive waitstaff provides excellent service, making it an ideal spot for both breakfast and dinner. With a wide selection of authentic Greek dishes, including grilled calamari and beef youvetsi, visitors are sure to find something they love.
Best Beef Stifado I've ever had in eighteen year's visiting Kefelonia, my wife had fresh Sea Bass which was cooked to perfection, this little restaurant has got to be worth a visit when on holiday here, the service was friendly and personal, the view is very nice as well. 11/10.

Our best meal of the trip! Not a tourist trap at all! Food was amazing, with wonderful flavours. Staff were lovely and the view was spectacular. We went for a late lunch around 3pm and found it easy to get a table with a nice view. If you wanted a table near the view I would recommend booking a table for dinner sittings. Definitely recommend the lamb youvetsi it was divine. A must visit when in Skala.

Absolutely stunning location and great food. We stopped off by chance as the restaurant and view looked great. We had 2 members of staff that were very friendly and kind towards us throughout the meal. We had a glass of wine, a mythos, shrimp and a gyros mez. All came to €40 on the nose. It was absolutely delicious every part of the meal was amazing. My partner tried to order sardines, they said we are sorry we dont have sardines, we would never served frozen only fresh. The prawns were delicious, super tasty and fresh. Cant rate this anymore highly! Real good food. Came out very full and happy we visited. 🥲

Lovely spot with a gorgeous view in Skala. Drinks were great, we had the feta filo pastry with honey and it was absolutely sensational. Great place to spend an afternoon with relaxed atmosphere and friendly service from a family run place. We will be back 😁

Great views from the terrace dining area. A warm welcome and good service from the friendly staff. Food is very tasty and prices reasonable. One of our favourites in Skala.

Great experience. Delicious food, very friendly and attentive staff. Sea view from the table makes this place special.

We had on different days breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Kaliva. The quality of the food and the courtesy of the staff were impeccable every time. A place where every Team member makes you feel welcome time and time again.

Nice spot high up with a great view over the sea. Book ahead for the seats with the best views. We had two of the beef options, Stifado and Youvetsi. Both had fantastic flavour and tender slow cooked beef. Definitely somewhere to return to.

Transportation in Skala

Araxos Airport

Airport
Araxos Airport is one of the two airports in the Peloponnese region, with Kalamata airport being the primary one. It operates seasonally and has a military presence. While some travelers find it interesting due to its military base feel, others note that it offers limited services, likely due to its military nature.
A small and useful airport. As soon as you step out, the beautiful view of Greece greets you. I recommend 🇬🇷

Its a nice airport, easy when it comes to transport, suits the locals and the tourists and deserves more

Tuifly is seating your children without parents. Worst Airport i ever see. Everything is Done manually. AC far too cold. WC disgusting. Ekelerregend.

A quiet, small airport. (Probably more military-based) The staff and security were friendly and helpful, which was a nice surprise. But unfortunately, the toilets were horrific, even worse than bathrooms from my school. It sent goosebumps down my spine. Overall, the airport is good, but it could really use some upgrades, especially in cleanliness.
Viliam V — Google review
Airport is way to small, its good when you land because its quick to get your luggage and leave the premises. However when you have to depart from like right now what Im going through, it a small hell. Since its very very but very small, there are no space to kinda stand let alone sitting. Kinda like clubbing distances between people, which isn’t acceptable in an airport. Since there is one big room to wait your boarding and toilet is next to it, everyone get to smell each others litter. We had to wait standing almost 2 hours, with minimal personal space and smells. After everyone boarded and door were closed, we waited almost 50minutes. Guess for what it might be, first I joked like “haha traffic” because it happens in bigger airport, you can just board and plane starts moving to the airstrip due to many planes trying in the same time so therefore queue starts piling. But here there was only one plane when we walked to the plane as well as when we arrived here a week ago. Single plane, and now I can see people walking outside and their luggage being carried to the terminal. Which means we had to wait 50mins because a plane was inbound. Its very but veery amazing management/control tower crew that can’t organise literally 2(two) planes. I dont want to imagine if this control tower was employed in any busy airport. How can they manage not being able to handle 2 (two) planes in a row with 50mins gap. Bravo! 👏🏼

Worst airport I have seen or been to since Abu Simbel airport. The police who does the security check is one of the most incompetent and unfriendly police I have ever experienced. Demanding passport for intra Schengen, not accepting blue diplomat passport and asking for additional documents, grabbing without authorization into my bag while I take things already out, and they are unfriendly and pushy. But they let you wait for hours before the security check even starts.
Gregor W — Google review
Really bad experience. Slow check-in and long queues. After waiting in line for an hour, we found out that the luggage conveyer belts were not functioning properly so that you had to weigh the luggage at one desk, take it off, and transport it to another after checkin!

Small airport but there is a shop to buy things, toilets are worse.

Preveza International Airport

Airport
Aktion International Airport is a small and tranquil airport with limited but adequate shops and restaurants. It offers a pleasant and efficient experience, featuring new facilities such as check-in desks, parking, restrooms, ramps, and duty-free shops. The airport is well-maintained with friendly staff and clean facilities. Despite occasional flight delays and restrictions on gate access, it provides a smooth journey for travelers.
Updated visit May 2025: I've been through this airport a few times and always trouble free experience. The airport itself is being expanded. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Thank you again 🙏 2024: Travelling with restricted movement on crutches. I could not have wished for better help and support. Thank you to all the staff. You made a difficult journey easy 🙏
Neil W — Google review
Two stars for the staff only for their professionalism and patience! The airport facilities after security check are too small to accommodate passengers of 6 flights (half of them delayed) at the same time, in July. Not enough and cramped seating, lack of space in service/shopping areas. FRAPORT, you can do much better!
A K — Google review
It's a small but clean airport with limited flights, so there's only a small Duty-Free shop and two dining options. The staff are very friendly, and the toilets are spotless. The air conditioning is excellent, which was a relief on my 32-degree departure from Preveza. Water is reasonably priced at €0.60. I also love the outdoor seating with fans and shade so that you haven’t got to be crammed into a tight, hot corridor like other airports. I would recommend flying from here!

Nice small airport. Clean, great customer service. Refurbished, tidy and organised.
Kostas P — Google review
This airport is way too small for the numbers of visitors it gets and definitely needs an expansion , but staff is doing their best to finish quickly . Not many destinations but very convenient for a lot of places in western Greece.
Iri N — Google review
The service at this airport needs to improve. The ground attendant informed us that we had missed our flight because the ticketing counters were closed, and sent us to look for a hotel and another flight in a week, because there were no flights, while the passengers had not yet boarded the plane and the gate had not even opened. Thanks to another, more experienced attendant, who called our airline contact, they were able to get us in quickly and did everything they could to get us to the plane. All the panic could have been avoided if the young attendant had checked herself before sending the passengers to look for another flight. Also, even a small airport needs an open SIM card booth at the entrance, especially when you arrive on an evening flight and there are no shops open in the city, and an information booth.

Arrived 11pm, airport was not busy. Quite small. Friendly staff. Easy to navigate. Bag drop was quick. Plenty car rental services. Arrived at our Lefkadas destination in 30m. Perfect
Darren C — Google review
One star for good clean toilets. At departure, our plane hasn't even arrived yet, they made us all go through the gate and wait outside on the side of the airfield for 30 minutes as the plane landed and was being prepared. There are no charging points or toilets there. Also we were bitten hundreds of times by swarms of mosquitoes. Why treat customers like literal cattle, keeping them in a paddock to be bitten by mosquitoes, when we could have waited in the comfort of the air conditioned gate waiting area?! I am allergic to mosquito bites so will now have to be on medication for a few days. Absolutely the worst.

Zakynthos International Airport Dionysios Solomos

International airport
Zakynthos International Airport Dionysios Solomos is located on one of the seven main islands in the Ionian Sea, known as Eptanisa. The airport offers a convenient shuttle service to various parts of the island, but it's advisable to pre-book an airport transfer for a hassle-free journey to your hotel. Travelers have praised the friendly and helpful staff at the airport, making for a pleasant arrival experience.
Very small airport. Everything was OK, nothing to complain about. The departure area has a lot of seating, they even bring more chairs to fit as many people as possible (there will still be people standing when it's crowded).

A small and clean airport – we flew in early May and everything went quickly and smoothly. There’s a nice shop with local and international products, and coffee and sandwiches are available. Tip: buy your sandwiches beforehand at a local bakery – fresher and more affordable!
Peter L — Google review
It's a compact airport, but with all the essentials – there was a café, pizza place and souvenir shop, making it easy to grab last-minute gifts or local Greek products. We flew in July, and it was very busy! Seemed like the waiting area was a bit not enough, but some flights were delayed. I believe it's fine at the rest of the year.

Well, not my first time so already done shipwreck cove and Marthonisi circuit seeing a turtle was magical. Good work being done protecting the nests and masking lights so hatched turtles go to the moon not squished on road. Volimes by hire car and cut down to Porto Vromi and various other coves at Kalamaki end of island lots of good food and both Greek, Indian and the joys of Salad and Herbs grown in the sun and the special Zante soil. Violent thunderstorm with lots of rain was a shock to some but with warmer air more moisture held so when it let go inches in hours flooded the road to airport some caught up in that found difficulty with accommodation but survived all soaked in 24 hours later so panic over.A dream holiday and my youngest daughter chilled for a week in Kalamaki with Laganas for clubbing but we did not feel the urge ! A cracking trip. Portugal next month to check out the results of poor management of forests with resulting wildfires about an hour from Coimbra, that will be a longer break camping out in a patch of forest, at 78 years a big adventure !

Arrived early and took our time. Check in was relaxed, security around 15 minutes but you dont mind that. Duty free had a great range and staff were very helpful and friendly. Seating was a bit restricted but we found a seat within 10 mins for a sandwich and quick drink before heading to a bar to relax. We waited the last 45 mins at the gate in the departure seats which are comfy and we were off 10 mins early with no trouble. Thank you to all the teams both inside and ground support 🙏

The airport really small. As I had online check in had no issue and passed very quick check in , only queue to security check but moving quick and smoothly. Overall if you arrive on time everything going fast and no stress. What also really good has charging point for electronic gadgets

zakynthos airport is one of those places that somehow still exists. the departures area feels like a mass evacuation from an all inclusive resort, just without the logistics. there are no seats. not like “hard to find” no seats — literally none. people sit on the floor, lean on walls, camp by vending machines. some lie down. others just hover, trying not to step on someone’s towel or foot. the ac kinda works not cold, just… present. bathrooms? surprisingly fine. there’s toilet paper and the doors close, which at this point feels like a luxury. flights to warsaw are on time maybe 30% of the time. so 4–5 hours on the floor isn’t the exception, it’s the rule. no one questions it. everyone just zones out like we’re in some collective airport purgatory 😵‍💫 too hot, too small, too many people trying to get the hell out. it’s funny for like an hour. then it’s just you and the tiles, quietly giving up together.
Bart B — Google review
Completely incapable of coping with adverse weather. More concerned with cramming the airport with more people than they can cope with whilst departures are closed. No emphasis on getting flights out and updating customers on the situation. An absolute fiasco. They couldn't organise a knees up in a brewery. UPDATE. It is now 4 1/2 hours since my flight should have left..There are no updates. The airport is now so crowded with people that it is very unsafe, there is absolutely no space left to walk without touching someone. Still the boarding gates are closed. And still the incompetent staff are allowing people to enter the airport at a phenomenal rate. I have never seen such chaos in over 40 years of travelling 2ND UPDATE. I am now back at my hotel. Which I had to arrange myself after being abandoned by TUI. After standing in the rain for over an hour to get a taxi. The airport fiasco continued until we left at 22:55. Poor communication. Nobody knew what they were doing and tensions were growing with so many people crammed into close proximity with each other. This Airport is DANGEROUS. I will never fly to Zakynthos again. It's just too risky.

Αεροδρόμιο Κεφαλονιάς «Άννα Πολλάτου» (Kefalonia Airport “Anna Pollatou”)

International airport
Kefalonia International Airport Anna Pollatou is a charming gateway to the stunning Ionian island of Kefalonia, conveniently situated near Argostoli, the largest city on the island. This small yet efficient airport welcomes over 800,000 travelers each year and operates flights from more than 20 airlines. While it may be modest in size, it offers essential amenities for a pleasant travel experience.
Well organized little airport. Quick security and check in. Slight delays because of the connecting flights from Athens during the high season. Clean toilets.

Nice airport with friendly stuff(especially one brunette with blue eyes that calls herself as Goddess and if you ask her why, she would reply "because I can" hahahah, that's the humor we need in our lives), Airport is small and practical, toilets are also in good condition and the overall experience was good.

Quick check in and the gates are close. Timely baggage retrieval. Duty free and restaurant. Rental cars and bikes very close. * Not sure if it’s the locals or tourists, but as there is minimal seating please remember seats are for people and not bags. 👍🏼

We last visited Kefalonia Airport 7 years ago prior to the new building - so whilst there are some improvements - toilets / check in desks it is a shame in the redesign they did not factor in a few more catering units - given the thousands of Tarvanas on the Island the lack of catering airside at Kefalonia is staggering - a Q of a couple of hundred people snakes around the departure Lounge. Repeated tannoy messages say that there will be no tannoy announcements for flights but a lack of info boards is again disappointing. Broken travelateors adds to the legacy of the old terminal building. So not a great design for Customers. Will we be back - of course we will - a poorly designed airport more for the convience of staff than customers is a small price to pay.

“Small but Smooth – A Great Gateway to Paradise” I recently traveled through Kefalonia Airport and was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and efficient the experience was. While it’s a relatively small regional airport, it’s well-equipped and functions perfectly for a relaxed island like Kefalonia. What I Loved: • Speed & Simplicity: The arrival and departure process was quick and easy. No long queues, and the baggage claim was fast. • Clean & Modern: The terminal is recently renovated and feels modern, bright, and clean. • Friendly Staff: Everyone from the security staff to the check-in agents was courteous and helpful. There’s a warm Greek hospitality vibe throughout. • Great Views: The landing approach is stunning, flying low over the sparkling Ionian Sea and green hills. What Could Improve: • Limited Facilities: Don’t expect a huge selection of shops or restaurants—there’s a small café and a duty-free area, but that’s about it. • Transport Options: Taxis are available, but pre-booking a rental car or transfer is highly recommended due to limited public transport. Final Thoughts: Kefalonia Airport may not be the biggest or flashiest, but it’s efficient, clean, and fits the relaxed charm of the island perfectly. Whether arriving or leaving, it’s a smooth and stress-free experience—just what you need when traveling to or from such a beautiful destination.

A lovely well run little Airport. Good facilities, efficient staff and no queues.

Nice small airport, easy to navigate around with tremendously helpful Jet2 staff (helped us loads with special assistance). Beware the hard seats if you get delayed though and the main cafe in arrivals after security doesn't offer a huge amount for the youngest of travellers (e.g. for food & nappies which affected one family). Fresh pastries (sweet and savoury) are lovely. Not always cheap...
Daniel C — Google review
The airport opened in 1971 to serve the former municipality Leivatho with improved transportation links; Kefalonia is now a single municipality. A new runway and the current terminal building were constructed in the 1980s. The State Airport of Kefalonia Anna Pollatou (IATA: EFL , ICAO: LGKF , ΥΠΑ: ΚΑΚΦ ) is located in N -NW part of Kefalonia, 10 km from the capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, and is named after the Olympian winner Anna Pollatou, who was so tragically lost.
