La Jolla Cove, located in the charming neighborhood of La Jolla, is a beloved destination for divers and beach enthusiasts. The area is home to the picturesque La Jolla Cove and the renowned La Jolla Underwater Park, which spans 6,000 acres of ocean floor and tidelands. This marine sanctuary is teeming with diverse sea life including seals, sea lions, Garibaldi fish, leopard sharks, and pelicans.
I love this place. So much enjoyed walking along the cave and watching people and seals. The weather was nice. The pathway, sea and yard is so clean.
Thunchanok S — Google review
Beautiful views. We started by the cave and walked over to the children's pool. Beautiful scenery and breezy air in the morning. By the time we left around 11 am it was very crowded, on a Friday morning.
Nay — Google review
Always an excellent choice even with the traffic getting in and out. Parking isn't impossible but it is a task. Patience is a virtue. The picture perfect views are worth enduring the smell of the seals and cormorants. Perfect for a romantic walk or jog, all the open space and air is priceless and the reason why Californian's pay an arm and a leg to live here. There are many boutique shops and restaurants that offer savory items. There are rows of hotels that provide excellent spots for weddings or special occasions. Been coming here for years. Actually got married at one of the rooftops. A special place that means much to me. Whenever I need a reality check, this is where I visit.
ARNEL D — Google review
La Jolla is a California dream—stunning ocean views, plenty of walking, and tons of spots for coffee, food, or dessert. Restrooms are right by the sea lions’ beach, and while parking can be tricky, nearby garages make it doable. Perfect for a day of exploring and soaking in the scenery!
Priscilla W — Google review
Pretty great place to see birds and sea lions with an epic backdrop (if you can get over the smell) I saw a Brant’s Cormorant there and many more birds I will put pictures of below. Definitely should check it out. The sea lions and birds are so abundant and it is such a unique seen. You can park anywhere or walk if you are staying in La Jolla. Enjoy the photographs.
Avi R — Google review
La Jolla Cove is AMAZING!!! The coast trail is a fantastic place to take a nice walk. Plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the view. Visit the La Jolla Cove park, The cave store and walk down inside the cave and it has a great view out to the ocean. Watch seals and sea lions play in the surf and have a seal arguments on the beach😆! I am serious you can hear the seals barking loudly at each other its quite funny. Visit the Childrens pool and the sea wall. There's so much to do and see!!!
Robert C — Google review
Sea lions, seals, oh my! I loved getting up close to our sea friends as they rested on the beach. They’re so cuddly with each other, but be prepared for stairs, smell, and sea lions barking. The view of the ocean is beautiful too.
The V — Google review
should be on the list if visiting sandieog. dream for surfers. they have tours that do surfing and snorkeling. rental equipments available too. parking is very limited and always busy. we had to stroll around for 15min to get parking spot on Wednesday morning, though we got free parking for 3hours. plan your visit either early morning or evening to watch sunrise/sunset as it's picturesque. unfortunately we realized this once we visited it.

Nature & Parks
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, located within the city limits of San Diego, is a breathtaking 2,000-acre coastal wilderness. It offers a diverse landscape with rare Torrey pine trees, chaparral plant communities, untouched beaches, and protected tidal zones. The reserve is perfect for hiking and wildlife enthusiasts who can explore oceanside trails while spotting occasional dolphins or bobcats.
Came to Torrey Pines with friends for an easy, scenic hike — and it was absolutely worth it. The trails are well-maintained and manageable, making it a great spot for all fitness levels. The ocean views along the cliffs are stunning, and the overall scenery is incredibly picturesque. Whether you’re looking to get some fresh air, take in coastal views, or snap a few great photos, Torrey Pines delivers. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a peaceful outdoor experience without a strenuous trek. Pro tip: For an easier hike, find parking at the top of the hill.
Raul R — Google review
This hike was amazing! 🌊 The entry fee was $20, and we drove all the way up to the top parking lot to start the West Overlook Trail (about 3 miles). The beginning was mostly downhill with incredible ocean views and cool lookout spots. The way back is uphill, so it’s definitely a workout—but worth it. I highly recommend wearing good shoes and bringing plenty of water, especially if you’re hiking midday.
Dristi T — Google review
Breathtakingly beautiful and serene! The mountains on one side and the ocean on the other side makes it even more scenic. So many beautiful trails leading to the peaks where you can watch the sunset or sunrise in the most spectacular views. I loved going here and will come back again and again! Hands down 5 star!
Bushra N — Google review
Came here on a Friday afternoon late September. $20 day use fee. Did my hikes from the parking lot across the road from the visitor center. Good amount of parking. I could see it being an issue on really busy days. Porta potties there with hand washing stations. Pretty clean porta potties that didnt smell too bad. Decently warm day but there was a breeze most of the time making it pleasant most of the time. Hiked to Red Butte, Razor Point, Yuma Overlook, and the beach. Took a bit more than an hour including meditation and picture time. Downhill mostly to beach then back uphill to parking lot. Mostly gentle. Nothing too crazy. I am a middle aged guy that sits at a computer working everyday for most of the day and have some mild asthma and still did just fine. Amazing stuff. Although there were plenty of people there, there were still quiet times to enjoy the ambiance and sounds and meditate. Scenery is unreal, and the trails are well marked. Pictures I attach do speak a thousand words and display the incredible scenery. Got my beloved souvenir patch and postcards at the VC, which has no bathrooms or water for water bottle. Highly recommended. I posted lots of pics because this place deserves it.
Jimmer W — Google review
This was an incredible experience. We drove up, parked and walked a trail. The view is stunning. I am so glad we decided to go here. After the hike we stopped by the beach. I'm so glad we came here.
Monica M — Google review
A wonderful steep hike from the northern part of the parking lot down to the beach. Not for the week or people with bad knees. Lots of stingrays, so be very careful in the water to your feet
Tommy ( — Google review
Simply, some of the best trail running in Southern California. One of the best places in the world to take a sunset walk. If you like hiking and walking with a family or loved ones… This is the place.
LaMar H — Google review
Torrey pines has many trails to hike and even run! Some trails have a lot of sage and smell great. We really enjoyed the beach -- it was not super crowded (during weekdays). The only problem is the traffic out, especially during rush hours. The State Park entrance and parking is $15 and there is plenty of space. There is also free parking before the entrance but it is almost always fully packed. If you arrive early, you might be lucky.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

Museums
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) in La Jolla has recently undergone a major renovation and expansion, increasing its gallery space and adding new seaside terraces. The museum features over 200 works of contemporary art, including the retrospective exhibition 'Alexis Smith: The American Way,' showcasing the California artist's collages that comment on media and culture. MCASD also offers a boutique with museum-branded products, jewelry, fine art books, and decor items.
I loved the architecture of the museum, it was so light and airy. The pieces chosen were great to look at. I felt that everything selected corresponded with the others. I also enjoyed how you were able to go outside in the museum, the balcony overlooked the ocean and was absolutely stunning! Do not miss the room that has windows cut out to frame the palm trees outside! They have free admission on the second Sunday of every month!
Audrey L — Google review
I had a fantastic time visiting the museum with my boyfriend and his sister. The artwork was captivating, and the scenic setting made it even more special. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy quality time together after brunch. We all had a great time exploring the art and soaking in the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves contemporary art! Below are a few 50mm film photos I captured during our visit:
Viviann B — Google review
This has been on my list of things to see for a while. So glad we finally made it. The building is massive with three floors of exhibits. Very tall ceilings and open space make it airy and the art is not crowded. The floors are numbered oddly since they go under street level...not sure if we even saw the second floor! There are restrooms tucked away down long hallways.. we needed to ask where they were. Elevators available if you don't do stairs. Gorgeous views of L Jolla!
Karen B — Google review
This was my first visit. I live in San Diego, so admission was $20. Children are free. You can check the admission fee at the reception desk. The exterior is small, but the interior is spacious and has a variety of contemporary art works on display, which I enjoyed. There is also a courtyard, and the view of La Jolla is truly beautiful. The best part is that even if you go outside, you can come back in before the entrance closes. Parking is street parking only.
T M — Google review
As an avid museum goer, this was a solid museum. There’s a lot of abstract or minimalistic here which isn’t really my favorite but all the artwork here was pretty cool! I came on a Thursday, general admission is typically $25 but one Thursday out of the month admission is FREE! There are 3 floors in the wide concrete building. It’s very accessible for all kinds of people. They have a vast array of artist on display including a WARHOL! They also have a fantastic view of the water near their sculpture garden. They also have an amazing gift shop. I saw some books I’d love to buy along with some pins from the Basiquat and Harring collection. I spent about an hour and a half here and loved and every moment of it.
Monét T — Google review
This was a great gallery. They had a lot of really cool pieces. When I visited, the feature exhibit was of works by Alex Katz. I hadn't heard of him but he had some good works. The rotating permanent collection was good too.
Harry B — Google review
The Museum of Contemporary in San Diego boasts an undeniably stunning location. Perched with panoramic ocean views, it's a feast for the eyes even before you step inside. The on-site restaurant is a definite highlight, offering a delightful dining experience with equally impressive vistas. If you're looking for a picturesque spot to enjoy a meal, this is it. However, the museum itself left much to be desired. While the setting is breathtaking, the art collection felt underwhelming. The variety and uniqueness of the displayed pieces were lacking, and I found myself searching for something to truly capture my attention. Furthermore, the museum felt surprisingly empty during my visit, with numerous vacant spaces, contributing to a somewhat hollow atmosphere. While the location and restaurant are strong draws, the art itself failed to deliver. Ultimately, I cannot recommend this museum as a must-see for tourists or a place I would personally revisit. If you're seeking a scenic dining experience, by all means, check out the restaurant/cafe. But for a fulfilling contemporary art experience, I would suggest exploring other cultural offerings in San Diego.
Shilan H — Google review
Food and ambiance were great! Lovely afternoon lunch on the terrace, quiet and serene. Service was attentive and helpful. Food, fresh and flavorful. The ocean view can’t be beat! Highly recommend!

Windansea Beach is a renowned spot for surfers, boasting an iconic palm-covered surf shack. The coastal trails along the beach offer stunning sunset views, while the beach itself provides a prime location to witness the sun setting over the surf breaks and shacks. The cobalt waters and kelp beds create a picturesque backdrop, with rocky shorelines adding to its charm.
Windansea Beach in La Jolla is a true gem for those seeking a picturesque coastal experience. The well-maintained stairs provide easy access to the lower cliffs and rocks, making it convenient to explore the shoreline. Numerous benches are strategically placed, offering perfect spots to relax and take in the breathtaking ocean views. The area is also dog-friendly, providing ample space for a pleasant walk with your furry friend. Whether you're there to catch a stunning sunset or simply enjoy the serene environment, Windansea Beach delivers an exceptional experience.
Kytka — Google review
Windansea Beach is the MOST beautiful little hidden gem! The giant rock structures make it supremely more unique than any other beach that I’ve visited. The shore area is fairly small allowing minimal people to gather there. There are several benches on the side walk to sit and overlook the ocean. The water crashes against the giant rock structures creating a beautiful and majestic scene. This place is really one of a kind and a must see beach.
Crystal — Google review
Such a beautiful hidden gem. The beach was pretty quiet when we visited. Beautiful waves and sunset.
Ilish F — Google review
Beautiful little beach. Mostly street parking. Water was pretty warm today, great for swimming and catching waves. No restrooms. Bring your portable potty and rinser.
Adi M — Google review
Was a nice beach to watch the ocean at sunset. Cloudy but still beautiful. I asked my gf to marry me there so I recommend the beach for a beautiful walk with your loved ones.
Edward S — Google review
Much more peaceful and quiet than the cove. Lots of surgery but hardly any people on the beach. So nice. No sea lions though. It's worth a visit and there's lots of stuff to do in the area. Sand is clean and pretty. 💙
Sadie S — Google review
Beautiful views with a family-friendly atmosphere. Plenty of benches to rest, fun people-watching, and big waves that make it even more enjoyable. We even saw a beach wedding.
The V — Google review
This is such a beautiful San Diego beach! One of my favorite things about this location is it has both sandy shore and some cliffs. It's perfect for a mix of beautiful landscape and makes for a stunning sunset spot. Parking is easy to find on the neighborhood streets. It's a large enough beach that even when it's crowded it doesn't feel packed. Such an amazing beach for photos or to just relax ☀️

Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop the breathtaking coastal cliffs of La Jolla, the Torrey Pines Gliderport is a renowned destination for paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts. Offering sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, rugged cliffs, and the Torrey Pines coastline, this site provides an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. Visitors can take to the skies for tandem or solo flights, or simply soak in the stunning surroundings while enjoying refreshments at the on-site cafe.
Stunningl! It's a must whether you're visiting or living in California. It's still free to access this natural and stunningly beautiful area. There's a cafe/restaurant if you want to get a bite and relax or bring a picnic and beach chairs. Binoculars and CAMERAS. Sensible shoes as terrain is rough and slippery (if you want to walk around or hike) - I was terrified to see a few visitors in heels and clearly not prepared. Listen to the whoosh and watch the wonder of the hang gliders. Or, just soak in the peace of the scenery. Parking was plentiful, but I wasn't there on a weekend, nor was there any evidence of a special event. Enjoy this gorgeous area. Marvel.
Nadia S — Google review
World class para gliding and hand gliding center. Amazing scenic beauty of stiff uneven cliffs and beach. Restaurants and Bar are available. Nice tourist spot. Almost crowded during sun set time. Enjoyed sun set at this beautiful point
Rajkishora N — Google review
Surreal out of a movie. I used to surf here back in the day. It seems like nothing has changed same waves, same winds, same tourist curiosity. It is my Sunday mass session here today listening to the waves and feeling the cool wind breeze on my face. God is great. 🙏🏽💯🌈

Torrey Pines Gliderport in San Diego is a world-famous aviation site perched atop the scenic cliffs of La Jolla, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Known as one of the best coastal soaring locations in the world, it attracts hang gliders, paragliders, and remote-control model sailplane enthusiasts year-round. The site has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, when aviation pioneers first tested gliders there. Today, visitors can watch colorful paragliders take off and glide effortlessly over the ocean or even take tandem flights with certified instructors. With its combination of adventure, history, and stunning coastal beauty, Torrey Pines Gliderport is a must-visit destination for thrill-seekers and sightseers alike.
Gnl M — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! I was paired up with a very experienced and fun pilot, Alex. He made me feel completely comfortable and safe. But he did some tricks and let me take over for a few minutes as well. The view and the feeling of soaring with the birds is hard to describe. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Do call to check the winds or go early and sign up then hike around the area and come back when you see gliders going up. Brought my gopro and got great video. But they also will take pics of you. Tuesday and Thursday if you pay cash you get those free.
Lynn D — Google review
Great walking trails. Loved this. Also access to the beach via stairs. It's a long walk down. Beautiful homes on the cliffs. It's not a difficult hike up and down, but a lot of fun.

Birch Aquarium, located at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in UC San Diego, is a vibrant oceanside building offering interactive tide pools and exhibitions showcasing marine life. With over 60 habitats and tanks featuring creatures from the Pacific Northwest to Mexico, visitors can explore cold water species, tropical swimmers, fish, sharks, and invertebrates. The aquarium emphasizes conservation efforts and research on climate, ocean science, and biology.
Absolutely one of the best aquariums in the world! It's not the largest, but the variety is breath taking. Each display is FILLED (nicely) with different specimens. I can't label the photos I've included and are but a few that I took. One could literally spend an hour, or an afternoon with each display. The setting of the Birch is beautiful in itself. The place is specifically child friendly. The help is ready to help direct, to answer questions or just chat. The whole family loved it even the 3 year old. Upon making a reservation, you can choose a time in which to come, and that seems to help control the traffic. Best, great place and a must see if you are ever in San Diego
Eugene E — Google review
Great time at this wonderful little aquarium. If you have EBT, the $3 admission was a perfect opportunity to see everything this aquarium has to offer. The employees were kind and knowledgeable.
Kayla C — Google review
A great place to take young kids. This is one of the nicest aquariums I have been to. There is a lot to see and interact with and takes about 1-2 hours to go through it all. The penguin exhibit is very nicely done and it's fun to watch them swim around. Parking can be difficult on the weekends so it's best to come early in the day. There's also a discount if you buy tickets online ahead of time.
Jan — Google review
The Birch Aquarium is absolutely perfect for toddlers! We took our little one recently, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Everything is so well designed for young kids, from the colorful exhibits and interactive touch tanks to the open spaces where they can safely explore and learn. The staff is incredibly kind and patient, always taking time to explain things and make sure the kids are having fun. The outdoor tide pool area was a huge hit. Our toddler loved watching the fish and sea stars up close, and the ocean view from up there is just beautiful. It’s the perfect mix of fun, education, and family-friendly atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back soon. It’s one of the best places in San Diego for curious little ones!
Jonathan R — Google review
A great way to spend an afternoon with the family. Nice aquarium, it's not really big but they have great indoor activities for young children. Great views. Interesting exhibits and educational value for all ages.

This place is amazing! Beautiful colors of fish and sea life and tanks to touch some of them. The outside back patio has lounging chairs to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. The souvenir shop has a great variety of quality souvenirs.
Audrey J — Google review
Sweet little aquarium that holds a lot of knowledge, unique sea creatures, and fun for the kiddos in a relatively small package. Lots of interactive sections for the little, s wonderful penguin experience, and a can’t miss octopus makes this a great place to visit. Free parking lot for 3 hours as well. Small cafe just outside the entrance and a lovely gift shop round out the experience.
Cami W — Google review
I went to the virtual aquarium for shark summer days and I was so happy to see so many children learning about the ocean and loving on the sea creatures, places like this are so important for our future, the staff maintains the aquarium in pristine condition and the animals look healthy, there’s a lot of informative signs and places to stop and admire the encounters, I spent a lot of time watching the turtle, and wondering about the kelp encounter, it is spot on. I was also thankful for the tide pools with lots of urchins and sea stars and shark eggs. This is a must for the summer or when you just wanna take the kids to do something with both of you can be equally admiring the encounters.

Saw some baby seagulls! They were SO CUTE and FLUFFY!!! Sea lions were a CA sight to see as usual! Saw an interesting tree as well! If anyone knows what it is please let me know 🤣 Baby Seagulls are the 2 last images. Bathrooms were clean and well kept. Not too long of a wait either!

The panoramic views here are absolutely breathtaking. Getting to see the sea lions that were literally everywhere, however stinky they may be, were still so beautiful & amazing. The park has an area where people were swimming in a cove with some of the prettiest blue/green water and even sea lions were swimming right with everyone, very close I might add! The walk thru the park was clean and very nice views.

This San Diego park at the beach offers a truly stunning backdrop for a marriage proposal. With scenic pathways, beautiful landscaping, and sweeping ocean views, it’s a location that guarantees beautiful and timeless memories. I've had the pleasure of capturing many special moments here, including a proposal for a well-known quarterback. If you're planning to pop the question in this perfect spot!

Definitely a must see if you are in the San Diego area! I was not expecting to see the sea lions out playing around, but it was a nice surprise! The water is very clear for snorkeling or other water activities. The park is nice even though there are larger groups of people. I would definitely recommend for a thing to see around San Diego.

Sunny Jim's Sea Cave, located in La Jolla Cove, is a must-visit attraction in the San Diego area. The cave was dug out in 1902 and is rumored to have been used for bootlegging. Visitors can access the cave through a man-made tunnel with 145 stairs leading down to the main chamber.
Very cool sea cave. It’s actually in the shape of Sunny Jim which is iconic. I spent about 5-10 mins here taking pictures and enjoying the sounds of the ocean. This is located INISDE the cave store (which is also great) $10 admission. 149 steps one way. You will be winded coming up from the cave so brace yourself. The ceilings do get low and some point because it’s a cave lol Waited about 10 mins to get in. Paid my fare and then got a quick 2 min safety meeting. You can’t buy tickets in advance. This is great for all ages but not for people who can’t climb stairs. You must check it out!
Monét T — Google review
Just got a chance to visit Sunny Jims Sea cave. I thought it was worth the $10 to get in, something different to do. Its a short 10 to 15 minute tour, but you get a once in a lifetime chance to look inside the cave and see what inspired the Wizard of Oz Director and writers, lots of knickknacks and seashells and stuff to buy inside The store. If you’re older, you just have to take your time and walk down the wooden steps inside the cave, there’s ample parking week ends get there early. Its a great experience. The staff and people were very nice and knowledgeable. They also offer a senior and military discount.
Jeff S — Google review
Very nice experience. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and waited maybe 30 minutes before getting in to buy tickets. They let from 12 to 14 people in line at one time (the line is outside the store). When you enter you buy your tickets, and then walk down $145 steps to get to the cave, where you can spend as much time as you like before heading back up. Be aware the stairs are wet at about the halfway point. Also keep in mind their short stairs with handrails on both sides, and a low hanging ceiling in some areas so watch your head. Seniors and active military are $8, adults are $13 (I don't recall what the price was for children).
Alex K — Google review
Anytime I have friends visiting from out of town I make a point of doing this tourist attraction. Taking a step back to history i belive it was built in ealry 1900s. Going down 125 steps to find yourself inside a cave that opens at the bottom overlooking beautiful La jolla. It's quick to do. You get 15 mins to spend. My husband is tall so there's some parts where the ceiling is low so you have to be careful as you go down..steps are wet in parts so yoi will need to gold on the rail. My 7 yrs old and my older friends have gone down. Take your time if you are older or a senior. Free Parking on the street can be an issue on weekends, but there's a paid structure across for $20..after the cave the top store has cute souvenirs and a massive shells collection for affordable prices. They also sell cold beverages and ice cream. This place is walking distance from Ocean Trails walk. Its great tonseat and admire the ocean views off thw twail. After, We love to hit Brockton Villa for lunch after the cave. Iys walking distance and you will be overlooking the seals 🦭 and children's pool. Price is good for the cave, the offer kid, senior and military discount.
E M — Google review
It’s a good experience, it has total 145 stairs, takes a minute to go down and three minutes to come up. When you go down. You can see the cave. You can see lion and it’s a good experience. You can take good pictures there. They take $13 per adult and for children, it’s around eight or six for children below three. We did student in the line for one and a half hour, which was quite a lot. Although the line was moving fast in the starting then slowdown of time, just get inside.
Divya C — Google review
Walking that same steps as people have over the last 100 years down into a cave that lets out into the sea. What a unique experience. The climb is tough and there are warnings but it's damn near straight down! The gift shop is awesome and the $ goes back to keeping this unique spot there for another 100 or more!
Peculiar C — Google review
Still $10 for adults and $6 for kids under 18. Steep and uneven and not entirely level nor regularly spaced stairs, 145 of them and at least half of them are wet. The platform at the end could have been a little bigger but worth going at least once. Get someone to help you with the picture. They're serious about the low ceiling in parts.
James H — Google review
The cave itself was really fun, but the customer service was not it. We just wanted to get a soda since it was hot waiting in line, then when purchasing the admission as well we were questioned if we had even waited in the line. We came all the way from Fontana to see this and it felt wrong to be accused. Then when they didn’t believe us they went to go get the boss to verify our faces which was even more humiliating. Apologized after but ruined most of the experience and ruined the start to our trip.

La Jolla Shores Beach

Mentioned on

Beach
La Jolla Shores Beach is a popular mile-long stretch of sandy shoreline in La Jolla, adjacent to the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve. It's known for its gentle waves, making it ideal for activities like swimming, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, and paddleboarding. The beach is staffed by permanent city lifeguards and offers scuba classes.
One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited! Beautiful coast line, rock formation, seals, palm trees… I could not have asked for any better. Spent over 2 hours admiring beautiful nature and watch seals sunbathing and swim off to the beach.
Amy K — Google review
Beautiful beach with crystal clear waters most of the time. I've seen lots of fish, some small leopard sharks, dolphins, jellyfish, and stingrays (beware!). It's family friendly with lots of sand, and a grassy area to play as well. They also have a small playground and bathrooms. I also like that there are many cute restaurants within walking distance from the beach. We like to walk over there after a fun day and enjoy a meal by the sea (not ocean view, but close enough) However, the reason for the 3 stars instead of five is how crowded it gets in the summer. The parking lot is always full, so most people have to park on the side streets which are very narrow and hard to get through (cars have to take turns driving past where there are cars parked, like it's almost a one-way street except that it's not). During one of the weekends in summer, the bathroom line was over 20 people! I was so glad I didn't need to go. The only good thing about the crowds, is that so many people scare away the stingrays, so there's that. Overall, I'd recommend this beach on a weekday. It's still a bit crowded, but obviously we go here often, so it's worth it.

Beautiful area to watch seals and birds and great view. Easy to get to, a bit crowded to find parking, lots of people visiting , but during the week is fine.

As an avid paddleboarder, I have searched far and wide for the perfect spot, and I can confidently say that La Jolla Shores is it. This beach is a 5 star haven, offering a breathtaking and serene experience that is simply unmatched. The calm, clear waters of the cove are what truly set La Jolla Shores apart for paddleboarding. Unlike other beaches with crashing waves, the gentle swells here create the perfect conditions for a smooth and peaceful glide. This is ideal for paddlers of all skill levels, from beginners still finding their balance to experienced riders who want to enjoy the spectacular scenery. What makes the experience so memorable is the abundant marine life. While paddling just beyond the waves, you can look down through the glistening water and see fish, bat rays, and the famous, harmless leopard sharks that frequent the area in the summer months. I even had a pod of dolphins escorting my group on a recent outing near the pier an unforgettable moment! Rental shops like Everyday California and La Jolla Surf Systems are conveniently located just a block or two from the beach, making the whole process incredibly easy. You can get your gear and be on the water in minutes. There is also plenty of sandy shoreline to launch from, so you're not battling crowds to get in the water.
Diego V — Google review
Parking is INSANE. We tried to come around 1pm and gave up after an hour of looking for a spot. Came back the next day at 9am, and had plenty of spots to choose from. We spent all day on the beach until the tide finally started nearing our site. The water is beautiful. So clean and clear, and the waves were perfect.
Cam N — Google review
This is a coastal gem that offers something for everyone! The scenery is stunning, with dramatic cliffs, clear blue waters, and abundant wildlife. One of the best things about La Jolla is the opportunity to see seals and sea lions up close. They often lounge on the rocks and beaches, making for fantastic photo opportunities. The tide pools are also great for exploring, revealing a variety of marine life. Whether you're looking to relax on the sand, swim in the ocean, or explore the natural beauty, La Jolla Beach is a must-visit destination in San Diego!
Rita H — Google review
It was very crowded but under control. Still the bathrooms are a bit lame. Definitely an open city beach. But if you walk down far enough (padt the cement walkwsy) you can find some less populated spots.
Paul E — Google review
La Jolla shores beach is definitely one of the best beaches in America. Incredibly beautiful cove, and the beach is over a mile long with smooth, white sand. It is a fantastic destination for any water activities. While it is sheltered from most swells, the smaller ones it gets are very well shaped and easy to ride.

San Diego's La Jolla Underwater Park is a sprawling 6,000-acre ocean preserve that boasts artificial reefs, kelp beds, and a diverse marine ecosystem. It is home to an array of marine life including seals, sea lions, Garibaldi fish, leopard sharks (especially in late summer), and pelicans. The park also features seven sea caves that can be explored by kayak or snorkeling.
Not enough words to describe how awesome this place was. We did snorkling on our own and felt so safe because so many people were helpful. we saw so many Batrays amazing creatures and We did do a Kayak tour to La Jolla caves be ready for a workout if you have never kayaked in the ocean. Parking is a little challenging. The area has parking within the neighborhood but the earlier you get there the better. Beach was really nice.

Super cool place to visit if you're ever in San Diego. I came here to visit with a friend for a quick trip and the vibe was nice. I really enjoyed the beach and the history around it. It doesn't get too crowded and it's pretty clean. There are a lot of stores around where you can rent various aqua gear like kayaks, snorkeling equipment, surfboards, etc. Plenty of quick bites nearby as well. Great vibe in the San Diego area

The kayak tour was an awesome experience and a must do thing if you are visiting San Diego. The tour guides are funny and very friendly. It lasts about two hours and the views of the shore from inside the water is absolutely amazing. And the history that comes with this tour as well

Fun to scuba dive here. Easy short swim to the kelp. Visibility was pretty good 15' or so, but I hear that it gets even better (it was much better than I'm used to up in WA state). Come early for parking; 7am there was no problem. Loved how active people are around here. Can't wait to come back again! I went with San Diego Scuba Guide, they were fabulous!

Experience a culinary adventure at The Marine Room, an iconic La Jolla establishment with stunning views of the La Jolla Shores. This renowned restaurant has been serving up delectable seafood dishes with global influences for over 75 years, attracting locals, tourists, and even celebrities. Indulge in mouth-watering creations like Moroccan Lamb Lollipops and Dry Aged Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio while taking in breathtaking sunsets at the lounge or main dining room.
Was amazing experience and good food. We love our time there. I ordered oysters and my husband ordered tuna both was amazingly cooked. We celebrated our anniversary and they offered us a complimentary sweet. Love the sunset time if you book your reservation and hour before sunset you should be good.
Elyaa H — Google review
We visited this restaurant to celebrate our one year anniversary, and while there were some really lovely touches, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to the high expectations, especially given the price point. On the positive side, the team customized our menus with a sweet anniversary message, gave us a beautiful window seat with a view, and never made us feel rushed. The service was decent, and the overall vibe was calm and upscale. That said, for a bill that came out to over $700 for two people (with tip), I expected a higher level of attention to detail and execution. I ordered the surf and turf ($157) with my steak medium rare, but it came out medium well. I typically don’t send things back, but at that price, I wanted it done right. To the restaurant's credit, the waiter apologized, had a new steak prepared, and removed the lobster tail from the bill. Still, it left me feeling underwhelmed. There were other small misses, like the yucca fries my partner and I ordered to share. They came out with truffle oil on them, despite us asking for it on the side. Not a huge deal in isolation, but again, for a high-end experience, I expected more care. Maybe it’s my bias coming from the NYC area, where even mid-range restaurants often deliver a wow factor. While this place might be worth it for a one-time special occasion, I personally left disappointed and wouldn’t rush back.

I had the pleasure of dining at The Marine Room and was thoroughly impressed by the exemplary standard of service and cuisine. From the outset, the staff demonstrated impeccable professionalism, offering attentive and courteous service. The atmosphere was refined and elegant, creating a perfect setting for a sophisticated dining experience. The menu was thoughtfully crafted, showcasing exceptional ingredients and culinary creativity. Each course was presented with great attention to detail, and the flavors were memorable. I would highly recommend it to those seeking exceptional cuisine, outstanding service, and an elegant setting.

Worth every penny. From the posh neighbor it sits in next to the Tennis and Beach club to the decor to the food and of course we all go to sit in the lounge and watch the waves. Book for high tide and after the sunset. This gives less reflection while taking photos. Place is amazing. I had the blackened swordfish with an amazing cocktail made with green apples and Grey goose

My husband and I had a great time. We had made reservations for the Rising Tide Dinner and we got such a great table by a window. The view was absolutely gorgeous, skies were clear with wisps of clouds and we enjoyed seeing the sunset and the waves. Food was incredible, presented well and it was delicious. Three course meal was so good everything sounded great. We got the Crudo and Steak Tartare to start. 2nd course we got the Chicken with gnocchi and the Spotted Sea Bass. AMAZING. The desserts were so yummy...Strawberry Cheesecake and the S'mores were great. Had a couple drinks each: Sumac Sunset and Rum for the Hills and overall it was such a relaxing outing. Valet wasn't even that expensive $15, well worth it. Will be back for sure!

My partner and I had dinner at The Marine Room last night, and it was an incredible experience. We dined in the dining room, where the atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the view of the ocean is absolutely astonishing, it really adds something special to the evening. We especially loved the Peruvian crudo and the Beef carpaccio, both dishes were fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. To top it all off, the team surprised us with a complimentary anniversary cake, which made the night feel even more special.

Duke's La Jolla

Restaurant
Duke's La Jolla is a two-story restaurant offering stunning ocean views and a Hawaiian-inspired menu. The establishment prides itself on being family-friendly, serving locally sourced and all-natural ingredients with a California influence. Guests can savor dishes like smoked papaya, short ribs, smoked potato salad, Tahitian octopus, and the popular Hula Pie.
We came here on a recommendation for the views and the food—and both delivered beautifully. The service was warm and attentive, the non-alcoholic mixed drinks were refreshingly delicious, and the food was just as satisfying. We especially enjoyed learning about Duke’s history and its impact on the local community—it added a meaningful layer to the experience. A memorable visit all around!
Vera Q — Google review
We stopped by Duke’s La Jolla on our way back to Los Angeles after visiting the La Jolla Cove, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. It happened to be Restaurant Week, so we took advantage of their specials—and wow, the food was fantastic. The poke tacos especially stood out, fresh and full of flavor. We sat in the back overlooking the ocean and mountains, and the view alone was worth the stop calm, scenic, and relaxing. The staff were friendly, attentive, and our server went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. If you’re in La Jolla Cove, I definitely recommend stopping here. Great food, amazing views, and a welcoming atmosphere make Duke’s a must-visit.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner during our first time in the San Diego area and we were very pleased. First, I'd like to say Sean S. was an awesome waiter. From providing recommendations, to being warm and welcoming, it was a delight to have him as our server. The food was very good. We shared the panko crusted calimari and enjoyed our Furikake Ahi Steak and sautéed macadamia nut and herb crusted fish dinner. There's a great selection of beers and cocktails as well, like a virgin lavender pina collada that my wife had. But the real show stealer is the hula pie. Incredible, really left an impression. It's enormous and the hot fudge just brings it all together.
Bradley P — Google review
To my surprise, the view of this restaurant is spectacular during sunset. Easy to find. Some street parking but best to come by uber. Came here with a group of 7 for a company group outing. This place is great for big groups, company meal, or romantic dinner. Their outdoor patio dining is where to sit at. I almost felt like I was in Hawaii. The staff were very accommodating as we wanted to sit closer to the ledge to see the water. I didn’t know how everyone’s food tasted but my husband’s and my dishes were good. For appetizers, we tried their ‘crab wontons’ and ‘panko crusted calamari’. I loved the crab wontons had a good amount of filling that you didn’t need the sauce. That is how it should be like. The squid in the calamari could be a tiny bit softer. I think it was a little overcooked but still tasted good with the sauce. We had their Mai Tai and Lavender Colada. The Mai Tai was all alcohol but better that way for the price! Haha The Lavender Colada, you have to add dark rum on top. It was good but did not taste any lavender in it but the coloring. I had their Hot Pot and it was excellent. Flavor of the coconut broth was so good, I finished the soup. It came with a small lobster tail, mussels and white fish. A good balance. My husband’s had the ‘Filet Mignon’. I thought it was cooked well with good seasoning. Didn’t like the corn with it though but then I am not really into corn. They only have two desserts that we liked and that was the Hula pie and Key Lime Pie. Key Lime Pie is the one to get! I love the crust! You just have to be wary if you are not sitting underneath the big umbrellas as outdoor eating attracts the birds. Make sure you are fully underneath the umbrella. Still a great place for service, food and views. Totally recommended this place.
Edna G — Google review
Solid Hawaiian restaurant with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. Calamari was okay, coconut shrimp was good and the macademia nut crusted fish was the real star. Hula pie was impressive but one note. Go here for the view, food is decent but the view and atmosphere take it to the next level.
Jack D — Google review
We randomly stopped in while passing by it was not to busy the food and service were great! We also where places closer to inside we saw a table leave and asked to move so we can have a view our waitress had no issue moving us before our food came out. She was lovely!!! We had the fish tacos, fish and chips, and a chicken salad they were all sooo good!!! Would definitely eat here again! The drinks were so good as well! Do not pass on them!
Angel — Google review
Grant was an excellent and thoughtful server. We celebrated a birthday and he had the best attitude with everything. I also forgot my wallet when we left, but staff located me outside by the Duke statue and returned it to me. Stellar employees!! So grateful for their kindness.
Sally C — Google review
Came here because heard the views were amazing. I asked for a table outside assuming it would come with a view, but after being told there was a 15-minute wait, I was seated outside with no view at all. It would have been nice if the hosts had clarified that not all outdoor tables have a view or given the option to wait longer for one. The food was also disappointing — the poke tacos tasted old, and everything came out surprisingly fast, which made me question how fresh it really was. Overall, not the experience I expected from Duke’s given the great reputation and location.

The restaurant features inventive seasonal cuisine crafted by award-winning Chef Jason Knibb and Pastry Chef Jose Alonzo III.
I had an incredible experience at Nine Ten Restaurant tonight! We indulged in the tasting menu, and every dish was absolutely delicious. Our server, Jose, was fantastic—super attentive and friendly. The restaurant had a sophisticated interior with a stylish, upscale atmosphere—perfect for a nice night out. The ambiance had a great start-of-the-night vibe, making it an enjoyable dining experience. The fish dish was incredibly fresh and flavorful, which made it a standout. The steak was also well-prepared and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for both seafood and steak lovers. Would definitely recommend!
Rina — Google review
Michelin Guide recognized restaurant located inside the Grande Colonial Hotel. Had a reservation for five on a Sunday for brunch and were seated immediately. It’s $10 for valet parking when you dine at the restaurant, and you need to show your restaurant receipt when picking up the car. We ordered the octopus, sourdough bread, a pecan sticky bun, and tuna crudo for starters. The octopus came with potatoes and a cheese sauce that was tasty. The tuna crudo came in 6 pieces and I liked the citrusy dressing. The pecan sticky bun was a sleeper hit (the candied pecans were particularly good); I only wish that the coffee machine was working so we could’ve had a latte on the side to accompany it. My entree, I had the huevos rancheros. It was quite filling and I took half home for leftovers. We rounded out the meal with the half baked chocolate cake, which had the consistency of a molten lava cake soaked in ice cream - definitely split this with other people. Our waitress was very nice and the vibes were chill.

The food is absolutely amazing and you can tell that the chef truly loves what he does. Every bite is filled with refreshing flavors and each dish sparks a memory
Nancy N — Google review
Inattentive service at best. Had at least 3 or 4 waiters take orders or bring food. Never heard a name and most items including the check were silently dropped off and picked up. The food however was certified delicious and well presented. The burger may seem like a “low end” menu item but it was excellent. And lots of add-ons can be had. The truffle fries are really good too. The lamb loin was a small portion but so tender and juicy and flavorful. It’s a very creative menu but they’re also really good with working around allergies. The ambiance is very nice, it’s a hotel lobby restaurant however so it’s small. But it wasn’t overly loud and the high ceilings and nice bright colorful artwork make sitting in it feel calm and relaxed. Valet parking was 10 dollars and those gentleman were very warm and welcoming. 2 staircases down to the restrooms.

This is not a typical restaurant connected to a hotel! Do not skip it and assume it's a basic spot to eat. This award winning restaurant is so good, we ate here five times on our trip - which we never do. Everything is made in house - from the pastrami to the Cacio E Pepe spaghettini. The flavors here were so familiar, but you could tell they were made with love and thoughtfulness. The most amazing thing we ate all week was the short rib toast with mornay sauce! You can only get it on weekends and only at brunch. The short rib is so good, we were hoping it would be on the dinner menu - but that's how much care they put into their menu- they are making short rib from scratch - just for weekend brunch. If you are a savory fan, this is one of the best things served on Prospect Street. Second savory delight would be the jerk pork belly - flavors you rarely taste together, but oh so good! The service was also top notch - Alex, Pablo and Shelly took very good care of us and always had great recommendations for each meal. You can sit inside, on the busy Prospect St. patio, or on the back patio, with partial ocean views. There is street parking around the area and $10 valet for the restaurant. Please take care of the valet guys too - they deliver old school service, which is so hard to find these days.

This is a classical style restaurant that does seemingly simple food with great style and exceptional flavor. I had the tuna crudo as a starter and the cod as my main. Both had exceptional balance of a kind that as a European (sorry!) I sometimes found difficult to come by on my trips to the US. But this place can compete with the best of them. The service was immaculate. It was all a pleasant surprise. Happy to come back anytime!

El Pescador Fish Market has been a staple in La Jolla since 1974, offering a variety of just-caught seafood options to-go or prepared on-site. The market is housed in a modern building with communal tables for dining in. Their menu focuses on fresh seafood, which can be selected from the case and prepared to your liking - grilled, fried, in a sandwich or burrito, or as part of a salad. Notable dishes include the sea bass sandwich and shrimp tacos.
Yum. Everything looked so good and fresh here. We tried a fish burrito and some ceviche. Got it to go and heading to the beach. It was so good and traveled well. We would probably frequent this place for our fresh fish if we lived nearby. Totally worth the stop

This place is the best. My favorite item is the swordfish, always a treat. So so fresh, and it's amazing in a sandwich. (tip: always say yes to Avo) Don't sleep on their clam chowder either, it's the best I've ever had outside of the east coast. And the salads are on point too, can't go wrong really with the protein choice. Fish, shrimp, octopus, scallops all are super delicious. This has been a go-to spot in my family for about 20 years and I just can't get enough!
Daniel K — Google review
Such a fresh, vibrant spot! You can see the quality right in the seafood display. The salmon dishes were perfectly cooked , my kiddo loved theirs. My octopus was just a touch chewy, but the flavors were bright and real. It’s counter service, casual, and not pet-friendly, but fair prices and great freshness. Loved the vibe!

Have eaten here so many times but this is my first review. This place literally never fails. Let’s start with the oysters….only got 4 as a little app for myself but I seriously could have eaten 2 dozen. Currently regretting my decision as I devoured my 4 in about 60 seconds. And their mignonette is next level. If you like oysters, do yourself a favor and get these. I got the west coast ones but I’m sure the east coast ones are also FIRE. Moving on to my main dish, got the blackened/cajun salmon plate and this also was next level. Even the freaking side of veggies was amazing. It’s probably not the cheapest seafood in town but it is easily the best. Worth every penny.

We visited Puesto Mexican Artisan Kitchen & Bar while in town and couldn’t have been more impressed. After spending the morning by the coast watching the sea lions, we were thrilled to find this spot within walking distance for lunch. We booked a reservation based on the great reviews and it definitely paid off. When we arrived, there was a line out the door, but we were seated immediately. The atmosphere inside was lively yet comfortable, and both the food and service were excellent. We specifically chose Puesto for their gluten-free offerings, and they did not disappoint everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. If you’re in the area, I’d absolutely recommend this place. Solid 5 stars from us!

Excellent Mexican food in La Jolla! Came here because of its stellar reputation and it did not disappoint. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from La Jolla Cove and surrounded by plenty of shops and stores. Their menu offers a diverse array of tacos and their margaritas are excellent. Special shoutout to their guacamole sampler… some of the best guac I’ve ever had. The pricing is very reasonable relative to the area and the portion sizes are sufficient. The staff and overall service were excellent and came through with suggestions. The outdoor seating makes it a great spot to eat with friends or family while enjoying the San Diego weather. Highly recommend!

Warm welcoming atmosphere. Knowledgeable wait staff. Described food choices and offered suggestions based on our questions. Salsa for initial chip basket was enjoyed by all four of us. Flautas with chicken was flavourful. Carne burrito was moist and seasoned well. Quac three flight was spicy, cheesy and traditional. Ez parking on Wall Street at the time we were there. Umbrella shades at every outdoor patio seating area.

We came for lunch. Just popped in with no knowledge of the place. Regular chips and salsa as a starter. Salsa is great. The food was good (steak tacos, lobster tacos) and kids dishes (steak taco, rice and beans, and cheese quesadilla with rice, beans, and fruit. Both adults would have been good with one taco each for lunch. The Puesto margaritas were AMAZING. I felt the crispy onion strings on the lobster taco distracted from the lobster and avocado flavor and mouth.

Love this place so much that I make sure to stop by every time I’m in San Diego! The flavors and textures in the tacos are perfectly balanced! I also enjoy the salsa flight here. The chips are not bad, but could be a little higher quality to match the rest of the food here.

The restaurant offers a comfortable and modern dining experience with an open kitchen and a shaded patio. It's known for its affordable prices, family-friendly atmosphere, and professional staff who guide guests through an extensive Italian menu. The menu features traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist, including fresh pasta, artisan pizzas, and inventive salads.
Elegant, quiet, consistent, prices that are acceptable. Piattis doesn't ever dissapoint. The handmade raviolis were absolutely amazing. Service was on point. I'm inspired by spaces like this that are an easy blend of comfortable and classy @healing-ground.online

My daughters took me to Piatti in La Jolla for my birthday while visiting San Diego. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the have a very nice outdoor seatings as well. The food was mostly very good, but I ordered Vesuvio and it was a bit on the salty side. The prices are a bit high, but for San Diego, it felt fair. I would go back again.

Excellent food and service, we had the veal and the ravioli with eggplant. Both were excellent. The mushroom risotto cakes with the veal were delicious too. We did dine much earlier than normal at 4:15 PM to get to our concert later, but the restaurant was already 1/3 full then, and filled before we left at 5:20. Great friendly and helpful staff, we will go back.

A perfect dinner spot after a walk in La Jolla! Everything about this Italian restaurant was top-notch - from the elegant atmosphere with crisp white tablecloths to the warm and attentive service. The food was absolutely delicious - every dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. We came for dinner after a lovely walk through La Jolla, and it was the perfect way to end the evening. Highly recommend!

Such a lovely setting, and a charming patio. The food was delicious and well prepared and paired well with refreshing drinks. Friendly service and relaxing ambiance.

Great place, loved the food paired with wine, and our server Cesar was awesome. We ordered the Bruschetta and Papardelle. It's a bit on the pricey side.

Absolutely fabulous dinner. Dined outside in the back patio. The bread with dipping oil was a great start and I had to control myself as I was starving. My party of three had drinks, then shared bruschetta and the beet salad. Our entrees were all delicious. My lemon ravioli was perfect for the lemon lover in me (and the vegetarian). For dessert the affrogato was the perfect ending. Service was spectacular. Even extraordinary. They went out of their way to find out of the cheese they use in the beet dish (grana padana) was vegetarian (it likely wasn't but head chef was off for the night and all cheese was grated or sliced off the wheel). However it was obvious that was the only cheese so I ate small amounts and pretended it was ok to eat, and I was fine. All staff was super attentive. The only downside was the very loud and getting more inebriated party of six that was seated beside us during our appetizer. Throughout the dinner, they were quite loud, ignoring the glances of other guests. If you were the party of six middle age adults celebrating a birthday that evening, we really didn't need to hear your conversations in their entirety (to the extent we often couldn't hear our own), nor was it comfortable to have your drop in guests standing right by our tables, all still quite loud. (Fortunately we were reseated so we could enjoy our desserts in relative peace.) I highly recommend Piatti's and have every intention of going back. I'm still dreaming of the lemon ravioli and the affrogato! I know most guests are responsible and respectful. (Sadly we were enjoying the evening so much, we only remembered to take snaps of our drinks and toast!)

Brockton Villa is a popular dining spot known for its delectable French toast and stunning views of La Jolla Cove. Whether you choose to sit inside or on the deck, you'll be treated to sweeping vistas of the ocean. The Coast Toast, an award-winning dish with fluffy souffle-like French toast and hints of orange zest, is a must-try.
This long established local eatery has been a staple for years. But as a La Jolla local we tend to quickly walk past due to the strong ocean animals stench. Today, we ate brunch! And yes, the stench is strong, but it dissipates after a few minutes of sitting down view and the location and the menu overpower it and I highly recommend checking out this amazing spot for breakfast or lunch or both! Max was our server and we enjoyed his professionalism and attention. Buon appetito!🥗 Due to the uncontrollable odor from the surrounding bluffs this should be 4-star but it’s not the restaurants fault so giving 5-star

The food was average at best for me. I ordered the breakfast burrito and that was subpar. The French toast my friend ordered was amazing! So if you do for here, highly recommend the French toasts. The atmosphere was immaculate and amazing and the service was great though it did take a long time for us to get our food. Overall it was an okay place. Lovely view and lovely vibe but the food is subpar.

A wonderful restaurant with the added bonus of accepting reservations - we really appreciated how they accommodated our request for a good ocean view. You can see the sea, feel the breeze, and even hear the occasional call of the seabirds and sea lions. The food was decent overall. We especially enjoyed the mussels which are super fresh with great seasoning, and the bread was perfect for soaking up the broth. The Hawaiian POG juice was also refreshing. We tried the Coast Toast, which had a rich, layered flavor but was a bit too sweet for our taste - though definitely worth a try for those with a sweet tooth. The only letdowns were the overcooked eggs in the Benedict (they were almost fully cooked) and the crab cake, which was a bit too salty. Still, it’s a lovely spot for a scenic and relaxed meal by the ocean.

I stopped in for a late breakfast on Labor Day. The setting is lovely, with beautiful ocean views from certain tables that make the visit worthwhile. The food itself was fairly ordinary and on the pricier side, but the atmosphere helps make up for it. My waiter was sweating and he said there was no fee to use credit card but the final bill aftwr paying showed a credit card fees.

The views from the patio/deck tables is great. The drinks were good, but the spritz’s I don’t think had actual champagne like it says. Our waitress acted like we were bothering her every time she came to our table; however, the blond waitress was very sweet! The food was delicious, but the lemon couscous should not be $14. Finally, their menu hours are so confusing. We got there around 3:15 pm and they don’t serve lunch, but they don’t serve dinner either even though we got the dinner menu, which said it’s from 3 pm - 8 pm.

We went to this spot because of some good reviews and it's views of the beach and ocean. But it was a great disappointment. First the lady who sat us down was very rude, stalled us for no reason. We saw our table was empty for a long time before we were seated. Its way too expensive for the food quantity and quality served. The food tasted very stale, was of bad quality and weird taste. Their roasted garlic hummus and pita bread was good, but bread was bit burnt though. We order for buffalo cauliflower cakes, high tide tacos and vegan breakfast tacos. We could taste stale oil, the cauliflower cakes were fried probably too many times, it tasted like it was frozen for a long time before being served. The tacos were a disaster - broken tortillas, too much filling, no taste other than side of salsa, very dry, no flavour. The ambience is okay, though questionable hygiene, too many houseflies and insects all the time, smelly restaurant and not in a good way.

This was my second time visiting (about 2 years apart). The smell from the seals is pungent so be prepared. Street parking is horrible but not impossible to find parking. Allow yourself enough time to park. We weren’t impressed by the food or the service. I gave it another shot with another group of friends. The view is really the most impressive! We had the pancakes, eggs, sausage which was good. We rated about a 3.5 Cove club with a side of salad. The club was huge but flavorful. I could only eat half. The side of salad was bland. My sister ordered the Thai Bloody Mary. She loved it but shared that it was spicy. She gave it a 4.5

The kind of coastal restaurant true to the Southern California high vibes, kick back quality. It’s easy to find near the La Jolla Cave on the bay, and below the swanky hotels and consumer stores. Parking can be tricky but at least it’s free in many spots. So don’t complain and be a wingeing tourist or stuck up local, okay? ✅ Now, Freddy is an excellent choice for server if they can seat you in his rotation. There is plenty of outdoor spots to make you feel special, and yet the indoor was equally enlightenjng with multiple framed view of the land, sea, and ocean as if you were in the seat of an artist while the paintings surrounded you and were even made for you, you lovely little ego centric hominid! And if you dear reader, don’t think you’re special, then even more to do in your post haste list - run to Brockton Villa. The cuisine is fresh and care is made to craft it in house. Even if you are just looking to enjoy a cortado by the sea, this is where you just have to be. After all, the Dr. up the hill was a deal not small, and there are two, not one toilets, if you have to go….

Really great spot for brunch. We had a seat inside and as soon as you walk inside you are instantly smacked with a sugar high from all the beautiful sweets and baked goodies. We recently hosted our daughter’s wedding reception at The Cottage and it was nothing short of spectacular. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves (40 guests) for under $5000 -that is hard to find in La Jolla. They created a wonderful food & drink menu for our guests that included appetizers, entrees, beer, wine and 2 specialty cocktails. The food was phenomenal—fresh, beautifully presented, and raved about by all our guests. The atmosphere was warm and elegant and the service throughout the evening was flawless. The tables were decorated beautifully, the layout was perfect -we even had a space to dance! From the moment we started planning, the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely invested in making the day special. We are so grateful for Una, Jason and entire staff for helping us create such a magical and memorable evening. It was everything we hoped for and more.

Nice little brunch spot. We dropped in Friday morning and it wasn’t busy at first but the place filled up quickly. Service was great and the food was very good but could use a little more seasoning. The establishment boasts a coffee bar, sit-down dining area, and a grab-and-go bakery counter offering intricate and charming pastries. Renowned Chef Maeve, winner of Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship, leads the culinary experience.
This restaurant is AMAZING! The food was delicious, service fast, and ambiance super cute and fun. Kids will love this place, as will families and couples looking for a tasty breakfast in a modern playful atmosphere. My partner and I went around 9:30am on a Monday, which is possibly why we received such quick service — the food came out in <10 minutes after we ordered. We sat outside, which was a bit chilly but cozy as they had the heaters on. The menu is impressive and has loads of options. I got the lobster Benedict, and my partner got a spicy meat skillet thing. We also got the turmeric and blue moon lattes. Highly recommend all of these things! The store inside is also really cute! The pastries tasted good and are the prettiest I’ve ever seen (and I’ve had many pastries in my life)! I also highly recommend the delicious lemon macarons. I’ll for sure be coming back during my next visit to San Diego and will be recommending S&S to others!

As the name suggests, Sugar and Scribe leans heavily on the sweet side. I ordered an oat milk latte that came sweetened by default, even though I didn’t request sugar so I’d recommend asking for no added sugar in advance if you prefer it less sweet. The bread pudding French toast was rich and flavorful, though definitely a large portion, best shared! My husband got the shakshuka without egg (he’s vegetarian), which was okay. They don’t offer dedicated vegetarian options, but the kitchen is accommodating and can modify dishes to exclude eggs or meat, which is helpful to keep in mind. The ambience is cute, the staff is friendly, and the wait time was reasonable. Overall, it’s a cozy spot for a sweet brunch, just be mindful of how sugary things can get.

***Second Review*** Another outstanding breakfast Ordered: Smothered and covered skillet with BBQ Beef - over easy eggs smothered with cheesy chicken gravy. Beef was tender with balanced sour and sweetness of BBQ sauce. Butter Poached Lobster Benedict - Deliciously rich hollandaise sauce over perfectly poached egg. Great portion of succulent lobster meat on a toasty English muffin. Chicken Caesar Wich - buttery and flaky croissant with well seasoned and crispy buttermilk fried chicken and fresh salad on the side. 6” Dripping in Finesse Cake (Vanilla Cake w/ Strawberry Cardamom Buttercream) - $90 cake that is so worth it! Simple, elegant design and luscious cake! It was 915AM on Wednesday so I have to drive around the block to find a parking spot. Courteous and attentive staff. Highly recommended for brunch menus and desserts/cakes! ***First Review*** Charming and aesthetic decor which is inviting upon entering. Ordered: Crabby Royale Benedict - loaded with delicious crabmeat, fresh arugula/avocado and perfectly poached egg topped with spicy sriracha hollandaise sauce makes this dish to order again on our next visit. Roasted potatoes was crispy and seasoned well. **spicy sriracha hollandaise wasn’t that spicy** Famous Rebellious Lobby Roll - right amount of delicious lobster meat with lemon aioli and seasonings in a tasty/butter roll. It comes with arugula salad. S & S Chocolate - Picture and taste perfect! Chocolate and whipped topping is so so good! The “Best” according to my wife; which I Agree! The toasted marshmallow was good too. Our server, Erin was nice and attentive from start to finish. Still few empty parking spot by the surrounding streets right after 9AM on a Saturday. No waiting to get in and only took 10-15 mins for our entire orders. Highly recommended. Will absolutely coming back to try their other dishes and desserts.

Delicious! The food is delicious, the benedict was cooked perfectly, with a tasty hollandaise sauce and crispy bacon. The potatos on the side were a great compliment, sliced like chips, they were perfect for scooping the sauce and yolk. The waffles were delicious too, the peach burbon sauce and elderberry cream was to die for We went during peak sunday bunch time (after 10 am on a sunday), parking is a little tricky, you might have to go a couple blocks, and since this place is popular, you might have a little bit of a wait. However the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun, plus there is a take out coffee counter with pastries to order if you need somthing to tide you over. If you can, definitely visit, the sweet and savory offering for brunch are great! Will definitely come back.

The oat meal latte was too good and even the servers were prompt and paid proactive attention! We had a pleasant day overall as the vibe was set right! Hands down the best fish taco in San Diego! Line was long but it moved pretty fast. Carne Asada taco was awesome. Perfectly seared chunky meat and so smoky and tasty. Salsa bar had different kinds of salsa and condiments. Hard to grab a seat and need to be little aggressive to secure seats since they are busy all the time. There are few tables and counter space and some outdoor seating. Definitely one of the best taco spot in west coast. Don’t miss it!

We often stop by The Taco Stand after a walk or a swim in the ocean to grab some delicious tacos. I wasn’t really a fan of this type of food before — probably because I hadn’t tried anything that truly impressed me. But this place changed my mind. It’s definitely popular, and there are usually long lines — but that just means it’s worth it. The food is genuinely good. My favorites are the shrimp and chicken tacos — super flavorful and satisfying. There’s something for everyone here, whether you want to sit and eat or grab your food to go and enjoy it while walking. I really like this location. For $450 we fed 30 people. We got a pan of carne asada, chicken, and al pastor. The al pastor was everyone's favorite! They served it with some pineapple slices. We also got a number of sauces and salsas that were flavorful and really rounded out the whole taco bar experience. So happy to try a local spot and it did not disappoint. It was sooo busy with a line out the door though, so I'm glad we got to order on advance!

Stood in line for 45 minutes in the blazing sun. When saw "Hecho a Mano" it gave hope it was going to be great quality. Ordered Napales tacos, grilled fish tacos and spicy shrimp taco's, unfortunately the taste wasn't in par. The napales were not cooked, they were cut up and just put into the taco's which is heavy on the digestion; the grilled fish wasn't fish, but rather like a fish paste of some kind and the made by hand - well what was made by hand? The Taco's were filled, the service was great, just the taste was plain :( the salsa stand was a bit crowded and salsa didn't have flavor I don't know why this place didn't have flavor :(, everything else was great ! :). Will not stand in line again for this bland food.

Tijuana International Airport

Airport
International airport
Tijuana International Airport is a standard airport located 100km south of Tijuana, near the Bahia de Todos Santos. It offers a variety of duty-free shops and eateries for travelers. The nearby port of Ensenada serves as an inviting pit-stop and starting point for exploring wineries to the east. Ensenada was developed as a port in the late 19th century and has a rich history influenced by American and British investors.
Tijuana International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional de Tijuana), officially Aeropuerto Internacional General Abelardo L. Rodríguez (General Abelardo L. Rodríguez International Airport) (IATA: TIJ, ICAO: MMTJ), is an international airport located 5 km (3.1 mi) northeast of downtown Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. It serves Tijuana and the surrounding San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area, home to a population of five million. The airport functions primarily as a domestic gateway, serving a network of 37 domestic destinations.[2] It is a hub for Volaris and a focus city for Viva. Additionally, the airport houses facilities for the Mexican Air Force and supports cargo flights, tourism, flight training, and general aviation. It is the westernmost airport in Mexico and the second-northernmost, after Mexicali International Airport. The airport is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico. Situated adjacent to the Mexico–United States border, Tijuana Airport is a geographically binational airport, having direct access to its terminal from Mexico and from its Cross Border Xpress (CBX) facility in the United States. This rare feature allows passengers with a boarding pass to walk across the border using a dedicated pedestrian bridge.[3] The airport ranks as the fifth busiest in Mexico for both passenger numbers and aircraft movements,[4] and holds the 16th position in Latin America and the 47th in North America. It handled 8,925,900 passengers in 2019 and reached 12,545,800 in 2024, of which 4,114,100 were international passengers using the CBX terminal.[1]

Pretty good, easy to navigate. No outlets for charging your phone, unfortunately. For those who are foreigners visiting Tijuana, there are stores and shops beyond security check-in. There's still a airport markup for most of the things you would buy. There are lots of places to sit in centralized locations. No great spots for reclining except for Starbucks. It's well lit and nicely decorated. There are no water fountains so, bringing an empty bottle is moot. You just have to buy bottle water on the inside, if you're thirsty. For those who haven't traveled outside the US, you should not flush toilet paper down the toilets in MX, the airport is no exception.

Came to this airport to pick up a family member. This is my first time here and I was really nervous coming here. Parking was really straightforward, easy access in and out, I was surprised. Get your tickets when you come in, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT WITH YOU when you go into the airport because you will need it to pay before going back to your car (You also get a 15 minute window for you to leave). Elevator was out of service! Inside the airport, it was nice and clean. There are taxi people just waiting for you to come out of the arrival doors, but they are not annoying, if you say no, they’ll move on. That’s was good. They have a money exchange, shops, some fast food and a Starbucks inside.

It's improving day to day. Remodeling is in progress but they keep it fairly clean and safe. Security is tight but it's better than not knowing what may happen next. Food court offers several options and prices are not bad for an airport.

Easy to arrive, no wait in line. Back in May I was surprised that the newest section of the airport was opened. The bad part is that Volaris continues with the no boarding bridge. For Uber pick up there’s a new designated spot. Kudos for this. You just need to walk 70 ft east or west towards the highway.

Good morning, this review is not about the airport, because the service is excellent, the food and the staff are very polite and helpful. 5 starts for you. However, my complaint is about Volaris and their staff, particularly the supervisor on shift yesterday afternoon, Alejandra Guzman, she claimed to be. She denied my daughter the right to board, finding all kinds of excuses, she paid the ticket for her dog, had all documents needed. Paid a lot for that, they demanded more paperwork that she provided. They kept finding excuses, they promised they would put her on another plane because she lost the scheduled flight. They denied that and she got stranded at the airport. They were overbooked and looking to get rid of travelers, the supervisor was mocking at my daughter when she was explaining that she was promised another seat in a different flight, she wouldn't reimburse or give credit. Very unprofessional. I in particular have had my issues with this airline, but this was way too much. This makes look bad the airport as well.
Marty C — Google review
Not bad at all. The airport inside is quite clean and has decent amount of food options. The WiFi is GREAT. Goes right through the airport to the outside and connects easily with free access. The structure of immigration is unusual, just about 3 officers standing at a line looking at your passport either send you through or detain for a short while to be questioned further. There are no stamps upon entry or anything like that. Strange but it’s okay I guess. The Uber drivers will not come up to the exit where you come out of the airport because they say the officials will take their vehicle so you have to decide if you feel safe enough to walk down to highway area at the airport entry to meet your driver (it’s not that bad, just strange). All in all it’s a pretty decent airport.

San Diego International Airport

International airport
San Diego International Airport, located just ten minutes from downtown San Diego, offers rail service to Los Angeles and features art exhibits throughout its terminals. While the airport is quite large and lines can be long, the staff efficiently manage the crowds. However, ongoing construction may cause additional waits and traffic. For Southwest Airlines passengers connecting between terminals 1-10 and 11-18, passing through TSA is required.
This is a really beautiful airport. Very kind employees and security. I felt safe the whole time and my flights were always on time. They were very efficient and the airport has some shops for last minute souvenirs and lots of restaurant options. Loved it! I saw the coolest Star Wars plane and there was a really cute park right across the street as you exit the airport. Very nice!

I flew out of the old Terminal 1 and back into the new Terminal 1. I have to say that it was a night and day experience. Besides just being "new and cool", it is so much more spacious and open. I love it and look forward to my future travels. Everything is more open and airy, including the bathrooms. However, that spaciousness comes at a price. It is very long and spread out, especially when compared to the old Terminal. Our gate was near the end of the Terminal and it was a long, long walk to the exit. It was pleasant, and I enjoyed seeing all of the new features, but it isn't the short distance from the gate like the old one. Just be prepared. The other issue was the signage and directions. While it was clear, it wasn't the most direct path. I needed to get to the ground transportation, and it would have been easier to to stay on the 2nd level and take the pedestrian bridge across the traffic lane instead of being directed to the ground floor, out the exit, then up to the traffic light, wait for a signal to cross, and then finally had to the pickup location. I'll test this theory on my next trip, and will be getting a look at it by actually flying out of the new terminal this time. Love the changes. More pictures to come next time.
Bryan B — Google review
The New Terminal 1 is complete! And the reviews are decidedly...meh! Brightly lit with tall ceilings and neutral earth colors you couldn't have asked for a design more safe and uninspiring. The furniture is a small upgrade from what was here previously with a few different formats of block couches and high-top standing and sitting arrangements. Still too much traditional "bleh" airport seating without enough options to power devices. The food choices at least pull on local venues for their sourcing and there's a nice balance of fast and fast casual selections. Of course you're paying California Airport prices for anything so make sure you've refinanced your home recently! The baggage claim area, while also well lit has little to no seating and it was challenging to find outlets to charge devices at. The ride share section is conveniently located nearby in the traffic island and the parking structure is much larger than previously but you're also now paying large city rates for your mid-sized city visit. Ultimately lacking character and little to identify it as the San Diego airport this massive endeavor feels like a missed opportunity to add character and define itself to the world coming to visit all it has to offer. A shame really...
GPD G — Google review
The new Terminal 1 is modern, spacious, and a major improvement for traffic flow. The dining area is impressive, offering a wide variety of restaurants, and the outdoor seating space is one of the best features I’ve seen at any airport. These upgrades are significant and deserve recognition. That said, there are areas where the design could better reflect San Diego’s identity. The interior feels sterile and generic, more like a hospital than a welcoming gateway to the city. Adding design elements that showcase San Diego’s culture, scenery, or character would go a long way in giving the terminal a true sense of place. The layout also presents challenges. Despite the terminal’s size, it’s too narrow for a travelator, which makes walking distances long and tiring. From the gate to baggage claim is roughly a quarter mile, followed by baggage claim, another long hallway with a very low ceiling that looks nearly identical throughout. Improving wayfinding, visual variety, or even reconsidering future travelator installation could help. Operationally, baggage claim and food service were both very slow during my visit. These are areas where efficiency improvements could make the passenger experience far smoother. Overall, the new Terminal 1 is a strong step forward, but with a few design and operational adjustments, it could truly showcase San Diego and set a new standard for travelers. For now, Terminal 2 much better represents the city.

Went to San Diego for Cisco conference and landed on this airport . Airport was ok. Not much restaurants around . Was like a small airport . Exits are well marked and there are uber / buses outside . Parking is also on the other side of the airport . I had to go to my hotel and there were free shuttles right outside the airport … nice location of th airport .. close to many good hotels and downtown .. 3 stars overall ..

First time flying through this airport (on Southwest) and this terminal is new and very clean. Lots of places to shop and eat. Expensive of course, but very comfortable and upscale. Lots of places to sit and work as well. Nice airport! VictorB

Don’t believe what you see on the news - 10-25-25- 7am- no long lines here in the new terminal during “shutdown” that the dems caused. Took 30 min to get through TSA. Bathrooms are nice!! 👏🏼 It was a breeze and finally - SD has a nice airport with tons of space and many food options.

I value efficiency at an airport above most other things and so SAN is very good in my book. The airport is small and uncomplicated in its layout. A good number of shops if you like buying expensive things in airports. In terms of aesthetics, the airport is pretty middle-of-the-road. Nothing really stands out, but again, you're only spending a few hours here so who cares? All in all a quick and therefore pleasant experience.

John Wayne Airport

Airport
Domestic airport
John Wayne Airport is an international airport located in Orange County, offering convenience and ease of travel. The airport features a unique aviation museum within an on-site hangar. Travelers appreciate the cleanliness and manageable size of the airport, making it easy to navigate. However, it's important to note that the TSA lines can get crowded due to its smaller size. While there are limited stores and restaurants, they may close early, so travelers should plan accordingly.
I would do whatever in my power to avoid LAX. SNA, on the other hand is probably the best airport in CA. In fact, In September 2024, the J.D. Power 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study ranked John Wayne as the #1 large airport in North America (for airports handling 10–32.9 million passengers annually). The TSA staff is overall friendly and laid back - polar opposite of those at LAX. Bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of it. I rarely face flight delays here. Large selection of restaurants to get your vacation buzz started and kill time.

This was a great alternative to flying into LAX. Much less busy than LAX. Still significant traffic, so leave early. They have some direct flights and have lots of connections from major hubs. The airport is easily walkable from one end to the other, but had multiple food options and other shops. We definitely liked navigating this airport better than LAX. We definitely plan to use John Wayne airport in the future.

Flying out of John Wayne Airport was such a smooth experience! Compared to the chaos of LAX, this airport was a breath of fresh air. Returning my rental was simple and getting to the gate was no hassle at all. I was on my way to Texas and found the whole process easy and stress-free. What I like most is that the airport is small enough to navigate without feeling rushed or overwhelmed, but still big enough to handle things efficiently. It really makes travel feel less like a chore and more like a pleasant part of the journey. I’m glad this airport exists because it makes flying out of Southern California so much easier. If you want a smoother, calmer, and quicker travel option, this airport is a solid choice. Follow @joeypauga on TT, FB, YT, IG, LinkedIN and X

I love this airport. Super casual, super easy. Casual enough that a TSA agent chatted with me about our favorite films. That’s a huge difference from the high traffic at LAX. Planes land, and they immediately pull up to the gate to deplane, like they should. If you land at ORD you might spend an hour on the tarmac, which is awful, but not at SNA! Find the John Wayne statue in terminal A by checked baggage. This airport is like one long tunnel. Super easy to navigate, without any confusion. They also had a nice guy playing piano near some restaurants! You can park right outside which is nice but they raised the prices to $30/day which is my only complaint. Highly recommend you park at Renaissance Newport Beach hotel across the street for $9.99. They have a shaker service and driver you to the airport in a nice new Tahoe. They give you a claim check to pick up your car and they pick you up at the airport when you call them. I used the Cheap airport parking site for that. Beats LAX where it feels like you’re getting arrested if your friend picks you up at the airport.

A calm and efficient airport that offers a refreshing change from the busy LAX experience. It’s compact, quiet, and rarely feels crowded, making it an excellent choice if you’re traveling to or from the Santa Ana, Irvine or greater LA area. Security and check-in are usually quick, and the gates are conveniently located just a short walk after TSA, which makes the whole process smooth and stress-free. While the airport doesn’t have a huge range of dining options, the available cafés and snack spots are decent for a quick bite before your flight. Overall, a pleasant and hassle-free airport experience , ideal for travelers who value convenience and efficiency over size and variety.

First time flying out of John Wayne Airport (SNA) and it was incredibly easy. I parked in Parking A1 and easily found a spot, headed to Terminal 1 and made my way to Delta. Once checked in, it was an easy walk over to Pre-TSA check, where the line was super quick. Once I was past security, it was easy to locate my gate. I did overnight parking for the duration of my travels, which came out to $30/day (July 2025). It’s not a big airport, which is a good thing. It was calm and easy. I just wish they had restrooms at every other gate at least.

10.6.25: Fast forward 4 days and vacation is over and I'm back here to catch my flight home. In 4 days, the government shut down has begun to affect operations of airports and flights. Of course I kept checking and it kept getting delayed further. I had my fingers crossed my flight doesn't get cancelled and if it doesn't--that, I don't miss my connecting flight in Sacramento. In the end, I finally boarded my flight with just over an hour delay. I was thankful it wasn't cancelled and my connecting flight had a slight delay as well, which was in my favor. In the end, I finally made it back to Spokane before midnight. Grateful for all the airport workers, crew, TSA, flight attendants, and pilots that despite the government shut down, they continued to do their jobs and keep us safe. 10.2.25: Came here to visit friends. Deplaning and navigating to the luggage carousels was fairly easy as I followed the signs. By the time I went to the bathroom, my luggage was already on the carousel and I was out the door.
