La Jolla Cove absolutely stole my heart! My son and I made it our morning ritual to visit the sea lions every day during our stay, and it quickly became the highlight of our trip. We would sit there for hours, just soaking in the beauty of nature and the sounds of the waves, the sea breeze, and the playful calls of the sea lions echoing across the cove. There’s something so peaceful and grounding about being there; it felt like time slowed down. The view is simply breathtaking, especially in the morning when the mist rolls in over the water. Every day was a little different: some mornings the sea lions were full of energy, barking and diving through the waves, while other days they were sprawled out like total beach bums, sunbathing without a care in the world. On weekends, it does get busier with tourists, but I didn’t mind at all. It made for great people-watching and added a fun, lively energy to the peaceful setting. The location itself is perfect… close to everything yet still feels like a hidden gem of natural beauty. If you visit San Diego, you must experience La Jolla Cove. It’s pure magic, a place where you can truly connect with nature and make memories that stay with you long after you leave.

La Jolla is a California dream—stunning ocean views, plenty of walking, and tons of spots for coffee, food, or dessert. Restrooms are right by the sea lions’ beach, and while parking can be tricky, nearby garages make it doable. Perfect for a day of exploring and soaking in the scenery!

Beautiful panoramic view of beach and shore. Lots of animals and birds to watch. Very cool and breezy at times. Parking is difficult so be prepared to park little far from this place.

Pretty great place to see birds and sea lions with an epic backdrop (if you can get over the smell) I saw a Brant’s Cormorant there and many more birds I will put pictures of below. Definitely should check it out. The sea lions and birds are so abundant and it is such a unique seen. You can park anywhere or walk if you are staying in La Jolla. Enjoy the photographs.

should be on the list if visiting sandieog. dream for surfers. they have tours that do surfing and snorkeling. rental equipments available too. parking is very limited and always busy. we had to stroll around for 15min to get parking spot on Wednesday morning, though we got free parking for 3hours. plan your visit either early morning or evening to watch sunrise/sunset as it's picturesque. unfortunately we realized this once we visited it.

It’s a beautiful beachfront spot where you can easily walk and enjoy long strolls throughout the day. The area isn’t too big but feels open enough. Walking here during sunset and watching the palm trees is truly relaxing. If you stay at a nearby hotel, you can walk straight from your room to the beach. Restrooms and showers are free and cleaned regularly, but they’re not spotless. Parking is also free, but finding a spot can be tricky, so it’s best to come early. You can bring your own food and drinks and enjoy them comfortably while you’re here. Overall, it’s peaceful, safe and perfect for families and couples. Highly recommend spending a day just watching the ocean, listening to the waves and feeling the breeze. It’s a place that really calms your mind and lifts your spirit. 🌴✨

We had an absolute blast at La Jolla Shore Park! The scenery is stunning, and getting to see sea lions and seals up close was unforgettable. They were lounging on the rocks, swimming around, and put on quite the show — such an amazing experience, especially for the kids. The park was clean, easy to walk around, and perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or just soaking in the ocean views. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in the area. Can’t wait to come back!

Aka Kellogg Park is home of the famous sand bar that extends hundreds of feet from beach which allows people to wade in water with gentle waves. Awesome place for people of all ages and abilities. Highly recommend this beach when in La jolla ⛱️

Good evening friend travelers. Well once again I am on my family trip to San Diego brought us here to La Jolla Shores at one point. Like I've stated before I believe La Jolla shores, La Jolla cove, Ellen Browning Park, expand maybe 5 to 6 miles long. With plenty of clothing stores, restaurants, souvenir shops, and entertainment. This nice little area is just amazing. Would beaches where you can go snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, or just taking a nice walk, hike, or even bicycle ride Play This Is The Place to do it. We came down to La Jolla Shores to try to see the waters illuminate at night if you have never seen that when the water or waves hit the shore it lights up a fluorescent blue, due to the algae. Which is amazing to see. Or you can even just sit on the beach and light a campfire and just relax, listening to the ocean, and finding that pure peace. So if you're ever in San Diego, come check this place out. Hope you enjoy the pictures, God bless

Beautiful public beach, except the furthest hotel sent out a security guard and told us that this area of the BEACH IS PRIVATE, SO WHY DON'T THEY HAVE A SIGN AND PERMIT FROM THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO???? WE WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES KICKED OUT!!! After walking from the pier to the EXCLUSIVE HOTEL WITH THEIR OWN PRIVATE BEACH, THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO BE ON A PRIVATE ISLAND, SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR PRIVATE BEACH!!!

Love it! Though it was busy, it was still serene enough to enjoy. There's so many places to sit - in the sand by the water, on the park benches, at the picnic table, on the lawn. A great place to visit.

If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and GO! So many plaques to view of our veteran's, most of whom have passed on. Very interesting reading the engraved granite plaques. It also happens to be one of the best views of the San Diego area. There is a book available to look up veterans by last name and learn their plaque's location. This is a MUST VISIT! There are 4 HC ♿ parking spots in two areas. A ramp is easily accessible by wheelchair.

Mount Soledad Memorial Park is open to the public free of charge and is undoubtedly one of the best spots in San Diego for scenic views. The 360-degree unobstructed viewing platform offers panoramic vistas of the city, the Pacific Ocean, the Coronado Bridge, and even the Mexican border. Opening hours: daily from 7:00 to 22:00. The park provides free parking, but the road leading to the mountaintop is relatively steep and requires focused attention while driving. It is best to visit on clear days when the visibility is optimal, making it the perfect time for photography and sightseeing. Visitors can take leisurely walks, read the plaques on the memorials to learn about the stories of soldiers from different historical periods, and experience the solemn and respectful atmosphere of the place. Dogs are allowed, so you can bring your furry friends along for the visit.

Such a beautiful, tranquil location with the most spectacular 360 view of San Diego. If you're in San Diego put this on your to visit list right now. It's kid friendly and dog friendly, but it does have a lot of steps so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. However, the view and grassy area that encircles the monument is accessible, so it's still worth the visit.

Great place to visit our fallen soldiers from all the past wars. The view is amazing and you can even walk on trails down the mountain. Their's plenty of parking on top or the bottom of the hill.

Great time at this wonderful little aquarium. If you have EBT, the $3 admission was a perfect opportunity to see everything this aquarium has to offer. The employees were kind and knowledgeable.

A great place to take young kids. This is one of the nicest aquariums I have been to. There is a lot to see and interact with and takes about 1-2 hours to go through it all. The penguin exhibit is very nicely done and it's fun to watch them swim around. Parking can be difficult on the weekends so it's best to come early in the day. There's also a discount if you buy tickets online ahead of time.

The Birch Aquarium is absolutely perfect for toddlers! We took our little one recently, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Everything is so well designed for young kids, from the colorful exhibits and interactive touch tanks to the open spaces where they can safely explore and learn. The staff is incredibly kind and patient, always taking time to explain things and make sure the kids are having fun. The outdoor tide pool area was a huge hit. Our toddler loved watching the fish and sea stars up close, and the ocean view from up there is just beautiful. It’s the perfect mix of fun, education, and family-friendly atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back soon. It’s one of the best places in San Diego for curious little ones!

A great way to spend an afternoon with the family. Nice aquarium, it's not really big but they have great indoor activities for young children. Great views. Interesting exhibits and educational value for all ages.

We always go for our 3rd grade field trip. It's amazing. It is under construction, so partially closed off. I love the classroom part the most when the kids get to be hands-on and interactive and have explicit instruction with the very knowledgeable, energetic staff!

This place is amazing! Beautiful colors of fish and sea life and tanks to touch some of them. The outside back patio has lounging chairs to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. The souvenir shop has a great variety of quality souvenirs.

Went with my daughter. It’s a bit smaller than I expected, but maintained well and nicely curated. The marine life on display are fascinating and explained well. On some days you can also witness some penguin feedings. This fish was our highlight. Good to bring little kids or even grown ones for about ~1 1/2 hours.

Absolutely amazing experience! I was paired up with a very experienced and fun pilot, Alex. He made me feel completely comfortable and safe. But he did some tricks and let me take over for a few minutes as well. The view and the feeling of soaring with the birds is hard to describe. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Do call to check the winds or go early and sign up then hike around the area and come back when you see gliders going up. Brought my gopro and got great video. But they also will take pics of you. Tuesday and Thursday if you pay cash you get those free.

Great walking trails. Loved this. Also access to the beach via stairs. It's a long walk down. Beautiful homes on the cliffs. It's not a difficult hike up and down, but a lot of fun.

Visited this spot to watch the hang gliders and hike the dirt paths. We followed the winding dirt path down to Black’s Beach where we walked along the water averting our eyes from the nude sunbathers. If you aren’t aware, the nudity at Black’s Beach will catch you by surprise. Everyone was minding their own business though, so it was no big deal. The hike back up the cliff was exhausting with the many stairs and steep incline. We stopped by the cafe for some lemonade and then rested on the upper deck while the hang gliders came and went. Watching the whole process over and over made it look easy and very safe. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. The bathrooms were closed when we visited, but there were portapotties available. Mid-day on a Tuesday, the parking lot was pretty full, but I was able to find a spot close to the entrance. I don’t recommend visiting right after a car wash because the parking lot is very dusty and bumpy. The flights are $200-$275 per person for a 20 minute ride and I believe they offer free photographs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Otherwise, you have to pay for the photos they take. Might have to return soon to check “hang gliding” off of my bucket list!

The glider port is a friendly place. I'll be at a little difficult to navigate If it's your first time. Nothing beats the views where you get a up close experience with the pairagliders landing and taking off. Good food and libations can be found as well. There's plenty of trails along the cliffs around the Gliderport.

Great place to come and look at the seals. Arrive early to heal a parking spot. First time I came there was an abundance of seals, 2nd time I visited there wasn't many. Be careful walking along the seawall, you may get wet.

Great place to just walk and enjoy the evening and take visitors from out of town! The smell is strong but easy to get used to as you enjoy the bird watching, seals, and sea lions swimming in the surf below. Parking can be a little tricky but not impossible if you are patient. Plenty of bars/restaurants/ice cream shops nearby.

WOW!!!!! This is my absolute favorite place to visit! Take a nice walk through La Jolla Cove. Nice large concrete walkway right along the coast. The Childrens pool has a huge sea wall you can walk out to the point. Its quite exciting when the waves are big and they splash off the wall. Many seals and sea lions visit the cove and they love the Childrens pool beach. Its fun to watch the young seals play in the surf and somtimes there are some huge Sea lions around!

So much fun capturing the waves crash against the seawall. Beautiful place to watch the sunset and sealife - highly recommend!

Windansea Beach is the MOST beautiful little hidden gem! The giant rock structures make it supremely more unique than any other beach that I’ve visited. The shore area is fairly small allowing minimal people to gather there. There are several benches on the side walk to sit and overlook the ocean. The water crashes against the giant rock structures creating a beautiful and majestic scene. This place is really one of a kind and a must see beach.

Favourite beach during our stay in San Diego. Calm, nice water entry and a bit more of a private feel than some of the larger beaches. Enjoyed watching the surfers and boogie boarders while relaxing. Parking was easy in November, but I can see how it would be tricky in the busy months.

This is such a beautiful San Diego beach! One of my favorite things about this location is it has both sandy shore and some cliffs. It's perfect for a mix of beautiful landscape and makes for a stunning sunset spot. Parking is easy to find on the neighborhood streets. It's a large enough beach that even when it's crowded it doesn't feel packed. Such an amazing beach for photos or to just relax ☀️

I recently visited UC San Diego and was truly impressed by the campus’s modern design, coastal beauty, and welcoming atmosphere. Nestled near the Pacific Ocean, the university offers a peaceful yet stimulating environment perfect for learning and exploration. I spoke with several students who shared how much they appreciated the supportive faculty and the strong emphasis on research and innovation. The diverse range of academic programs and interdisciplinary opportunities stood out as a major strength. Walking through the campus, I also noticed a strong sense of community and collaboration among students. Overall, my visit to UCSD gave me a deep appreciation for its academic excellence and vibrant, forward-thinking culture.

I've tried several times to attend in the school has been most accommodating. It's still not certain that I won't make it there. I have the grants I have scholarship offers. It's just finding the time. This is a school. I highly recommend you're close to the beach times and you have the wonderful scenery of California. Great vibes.

University is amazing 7.5 times bigger than Disney land and library has 5 billion, plus books. We loved it. Came back for parents day. Informative.

UCSD is a really beautiful campus set on the hills in La Jolla, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I’m serious, it’s amazing !The professors really do care about reaching each student and giving them the knowledge needed to be successful but the real feather in the UCSD cap is the RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES EVEN FOR FRESHMAN STUDENTS ! Great school, dedicated profs, Gorgeous campus, amazing diverse restaurants on campus, smart hardworking students and fabulous research opportunities. What more can you ask from a university ?? This place is Awesome.

UCSD is intense, yes — but it’s transparent, professional, and genuinely student-focused. People here don’t just pretend to care — they actually help. I’ve met faculty who answer questions without ego, and peers who collaborate without backstabbing. That’s a sharp contrast to what I experienced at UC Davis, where there was a constant undercurrent of politics, fake friendliness, and silent pressure. If you didn’t play the game or flatter the right people, you were frozen out. Being independent or different at UC Davis felt like a liability. At UCSD, it feels like a strength. The difference is night and day. UCSD challenges you to grow. UC Davis challenges you to survive toxic dynamics. UC Davis wants prestige. UCSD earns respect. Let me be blunt: I do not want some dirt on my cloth so prefer to switch the cloth any way

A wonderful environment to spend a day, even if you are not a student at UCSD. There is incredible architecture all around (hop on a campus tour if one is leaving soon). There are plenty of places to lounge around - indoor or outdoor. Make sure you visit Geisel library, great building and you want a pic with Dr. Seuss. Relive your youth here. :)

It is no doubt to give five stars to UC San Diego. Big space, well infrastructure, and new construction going to host students on campus. Highly professional teachers and administrative staffs are the keys to the choice of matter.

One of if not the most beautiful temples the church has ever made. Temple workers are always great. I love the peace you feel going to the temple and always love driving it on the freeway.

This is one of the iconic buildings in SD. Every time I pass by, the pure white main structure and the unique spire design never fail to catch my eye. During the day, it looks holy and elegant in photos, while at night, the lighting creates a completely different atmosphere. The interior is not open to the public and is mainly used by believers. Generally, visitors can only explore the exterior and courtyard areas. Even though access is limited to the outside, the beautiful architectural style and serene ambiance are still highly appealing. It's a popular spot for wedding photoshoots. PS: The exterior is currently under renovation and not accessible. It is advisable to call and confirm before planning a visit.

That Mormon church is stunning. It looks like a castle straight out of a fairytale. When I went, the grounds were open to the public and everyone was taking pictures. The Mormons there were so friendly and welcoming. There's also a beautiful little garden in front. Can you guess who's on top of the church spire?

Closed to the public. You can drive up and park outside the gate to get photos exactly like mine, but other than that you won't get closer. The architecture is interesting and creepy at the same time.

In May 2021, I had the profound opportunity to visit the San Diego Temple, and it was an experience I will cherish forever. The moment I laid eyes on the striking architecture, I was mesmerized. The temple's exterior, with its cascading water features and beautiful gardens, creates a serene and sacred atmosphere that invites reflection and peace. The interior of the temple is just as impressive, with exquisite details in every room that elevate the spirit and remind visitors of the divine. The staff and members were incredibly welcoming, adding to the warmth and spiritual ambiance of the place. Visiting the San Diego Temple was a deeply spiritual journey for me. It stands as a testament to the beauty of faith and the joy of the gospel. I left feeling uplifted, with a renewed commitment to my beliefs and a heart full of gratitude for the blessings of the temple. I highly recommend a visit to this heavenly place to anyone seeking peace, inspiration, or a closer connection to God.

Beautiful temple! Super easy to get to from the highway and we’ll worth the 15-20 minutes you’ll spend here for pictures! Not much else to see as it’s closed but definitely stop by for pictures! Extremely well kept beautiful grounds.

One of my favorite temples! The exterior is magnificent, but so is the interior. It's truly a House of the Lord. I've been here for baptisms, weddings, and endowments. It's a great place to stop and take photos even if you're not a member but have a zest for photography and like beautiful buildings. It's probably the most beautiful building in San Diego, and that's saying something.

We took Docent-Led Campus Tour for 25$. I don’t like the tour because it was not informative, some facts were dubious( about no rust), nothing interesting about Salk’s biography/his wife( just a well-known fact about polio). You couldn’t move away a couple of steps from the docent. However, the view is fabulous and embodiment of the idea of The River of Life is unique.

Bucket list item for me. Our guide Allison was fun and informative. Fast paced tour so take pictures when you get a chance. You may have to walk a bit to find parking.

Such a beautiful place! Did the self - guided tour, which admittedly isn't much of a tour, but does grant you entrance to the courtyard. Worth the admission fee, just to contribute to the preservation of this beautiful place.

The Salk Institute is an amazing example of Modernist architecture and it's wonderful that they allow anyone to visit and take a tour of the facility for a small fee, either as a self-guided tour or with a docent. I'm glad I was able to take advantage on a trip up to Oceanside for a cycling event. Unfortunately their website now states that as of 2024 they'll be discontinuing self-guided tours and only docent-led tours will be available. Although Brutalism isn't an architectural style that's everyone's cup of tea, I think most people will find Salk's particular form of execution appealing. While it has the hard edges and unembellished materials of typical modernist structures, some softness and elegance is added by the interposed teak panels on the concrete facades, the striking water feature in the middle of the courtyard, and of course, the magnificent view of the ocean framed by the two main laboratory buildings. The architecture is particularly impressive considering how functional it is despite the striking looks. According to the Salk website and architectural articles the labs are open-plan for flexibility while the study towers facing the courtyard provide private offices for researchers that are separate but still easily accessible from the labs. It's a testimony to the brilliant design that the building has remained a premiere research facility for 60 years already. While you can't enter the lab areas themselves for obvious reasons of course since this is an active research institution, and there are roaming guards to keep an eye on things, security during my visit never felt obtrusive and I was able to mosey about freely within the areas described in the self-guided tour brochure. Staff were helpful the couple of times I asked to make sure I was going in the right directions. Trying to find free street parking was a bit of a chore on the Friday afternoon I arrived but a little patience did net me a spot just beside the Institute on Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. There is pay parking across that street if you want to save some time hunting. In summary, the Salk Institute is well worth a visit for any fan of architecture in general but especially modern architecture in particular. As icing on the cake for modernist fans, the Geisel Library, another brutalist masterpiece, is a short distance away and an easy add-on to your visit.

I cannot bring any words to express the Salk Institute. The best architectural landmark in the Southern California. Can breathe in and out at the courtyard. Strongly recommended to feel harmony with nature and human.

A beautiful establishment designed by Louis Kahn. These photos were taken a year ago and at that time it wasn’t open for public and I’m not sure how is it today.

We just attended the third performance of the world premiere of “Heart” at the LJP. The 24 hours in the death and life that accompanies the tragic loss of a beloved 19 year old San Diego surfer son who suffers fatal injuries in a car crash coming home after catching some waves at Tourmaline Beach one morning. Followed by the new chance for life his death brings to a 50 year old mom who’s life is almost lost after waiting 3 years for a heart transplant donor. No dry eyes for this theater goer when the boy’s estranged parents struggle with the loss of their son and the decision to donate his organs and when the moment arrives for the heart transplant and the donor boy and the donee mom meet and interact with one another. Thought provoking and very realistic. As usual for the La Jolla Playhouse this musical is very well produced and technically flawless. Choreographed by the same woman who choreographed the Eras Tour. Very well paced and acted - the 80 minute performance with no intermission flew by. We saw the the third performance of this original world premiere which was so well written and well rehearsed it could have been the 300th performance! Two 👍👍thumbs up … way up!! A perfect date night with my perfect date. ❤️😎❤️

Fantastic world-class theater in San Diego. See shows before they premiere on Broadway, world premieres, new works developed by the Playhouse, and new productions of existing shows. I've been a subscriber for many years and have seen a lot of amazing theater! I will admit I don't always love the material, but I've never seen a bad production - everything is always well done.

Three different venues, all different but great. High quality shows and premieres.

What a great venue! Seating is very comfortable and spacious. The staff was kind and accommodating. The campus was clean and beautiful. Parking is abundant since the new parking garage completion. The staff is very patient and helped us find our way. Inedible views for picture taking or a quiet lunch. Close to shopping and restaurants.

I took myself to celebrate my birthday. I got up Sunday morning and called the public transport travel guide number to plan a trip to the theater. I wanted to see the play at a matinee showing (I don't like being out after dark). I heard the box office offers reduced tickets to seniors for seats left empty 60 minutes before showtime! I purchased a seat for $45. It was 3rd row and middle seat (due to a season ticket holder's impromptu cancelation). The day was perfect, and the staff was very welcoming. The show was entertaining, and the public transport was seamless to get me there and back before nightfall. It doesn't get much better than this for a celebration of 76 trips around the sun! ✔️💯🔥✝️😁

Best live theater in California. World premieres that go and win Tonys. (Memphis, Come From Away, Jersey Boys, etc. and etc.) I've been a subscriber for over 20 years.

The panoramic views here are absolutely breathtaking. Getting to see the sea lions that were literally everywhere, however stinky they may be, were still so beautiful & amazing. The park has an area where people were swimming in a cove with some of the prettiest blue/green water and even sea lions were swimming right with everyone, very close I might add! The walk thru the park was clean and very nice views.

Ellen Browning Scripps Park is such a peaceful and scenic spot by the ocean. The views are stunning, and you can often see sea lions resting nearby. It’s clean, relaxing, and perfect for families or couples to enjoy the view. My niece loves to come here so much.

Definitely a must see if you are in the San Diego area! I was not expecting to see the sea lions out playing around, but it was a nice surprise! The water is very clear for snorkeling or other water activities. The park is nice even though there are larger groups of people. I would definitely recommend for a thing to see around San Diego.

Absolutely beautiful park right by the ocean. Perfect place to walk, relax, or just enjoy the views of the cliffs and water. Great spot for families, couples, or even a solo stroll. The area is clean, peaceful, and has some of the best scenery in La Jolla. A must-visit if you’re nearby!

Hard to park but very nice park. Lots of places to sit and picnic. Many people swimming and snorkeling. Lots of seals and sea lions and birds.

Very nice experience. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and waited maybe 30 minutes before getting in to buy tickets. They let from 12 to 14 people in line at one time (the line is outside the store). When you enter you buy your tickets, and then walk down $145 steps to get to the cave, where you can spend as much time as you like before heading back up. Be aware the stairs are wet at about the halfway point. Also keep in mind their short stairs with handrails on both sides, and a low hanging ceiling in some areas so watch your head. Seniors and active military are $8, adults are $13 (I don't recall what the price was for children).

Anytime I have friends visiting from out of town I make a point of doing this tourist attraction. Taking a step back to history i belive it was built in ealry 1900s. Going down 125 steps to find yourself inside a cave that opens at the bottom overlooking beautiful La jolla. It's quick to do. You get 15 mins to spend. My husband is tall so there's some parts where the ceiling is low so you have to be careful as you go down..steps are wet in parts so yoi will need to gold on the rail. My 7 yrs old and my older friends have gone down. Take your time if you are older or a senior. Free Parking on the street can be an issue on weekends, but there's a paid structure across for $20..after the cave the top store has cute souvenirs and a massive shells collection for affordable prices. They also sell cold beverages and ice cream. This place is walking distance from Ocean Trails walk. Its great tonseat and admire the ocean views off thw twail. After, We love to hit Brockton Villa for lunch after the cave. Iys walking distance and you will be overlooking the seals 🦭 and children's pool. Price is good for the cave, the offer kid, senior and military discount.

It’s a good experience, it has total 145 stairs, takes a minute to go down and three minutes to come up. When you go down. You can see the cave. You can see lion and it’s a good experience. You can take good pictures there. They take $13 per adult and for children, it’s around eight or six for children below three. We did student in the line for one and a half hour, which was quite a lot. Although the line was moving fast in the starting then slowdown of time, just get inside.

Sunny Jim's Sea Cave is a cool experience in La Jolla. It is private property and a few to go down the stairs to the sea cave. It takes about 10 minutes total to go down and back up but I thought the experience was worth it for the pricebas it is one of a kind and a lot of history about the property and tunnel.

Walking that same steps as people have over the last 100 years down into a cave that lets out into the sea. What a unique experience. The climb is tough and there are warnings but it's damn near straight down! The gift shop is awesome and the $ goes back to keeping this unique spot there for another 100 or more!

$10 to descend the stairs down. To the platform in the cave. 144 steps. Tight small space very slippery. Good footware is recommended. It's a somewhat strenuous walk back up. Come early becuase it gets very busy and could be a wait.

Really cool. You get to the bottom of 145 step staircase and basically just hang out there for a few minutes before you go back up . It's a small platform down at the bottom inside the cave that you access from inside a gift shop. The wait wasn't very long to go down. But it is kind of difficult to get up and down the stairs, just an FYI if you have really little kids or people that have a hard time getting around, I wouldn't recommend it as the stairs get wet and slippery about halfway down.

I had a fantastic time visiting the museum with my boyfriend and his sister. The artwork was captivating, and the scenic setting made it even more special. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy quality time together after brunch. We all had a great time exploring the art and soaking in the beautiful surroundings. This has been on my list of things to see for a while. So glad we finally made it. The building is massive with three floors of exhibits. Very tall ceilings and open space make it airy and the art is not crowded. The floors are numbered oddly since they go under street level...not sure if we even saw the second floor! There are restrooms tucked away down long hallways.. we needed to ask where they were. Elevators available if you don't do stairs. Gorgeous views of L Jolla!

This was my first visit. I live in San Diego, so admission was $20. Children are free. You can check the admission fee at the reception desk. The exterior is small, but the interior is spacious and has a variety of contemporary art works on display, which I enjoyed. There is also a courtyard, and the view of La Jolla is truly beautiful. The best part is that even if you go outside, you can come back in before the entrance closes. Parking is street parking only.

As an avid museum goer, this was a solid museum. There’s a lot of abstract or minimalistic here which isn’t really my favorite but all the artwork here was pretty cool! I came on a Thursday, general admission is typically $25 but one Thursday out of the month admission is FREE! There are 3 floors in the wide concrete building. It’s very accessible for all kinds of people. They have a vast array of artist on display including a WARHOL! They also have a fantastic view of the water near their sculpture garden. They also have an amazing gift shop. I saw some books I’d love to buy along with some pins from the Basiquat and Harring collection. I spent about an hour and a half here and loved and every moment of it.

This was a great gallery. They had a lot of really cool pieces. When I visited, the feature exhibit was of works by Alex Katz. I hadn't heard of him but he had some good works. The rotating permanent collection was good too.

The Museum of Contemporary in San Diego boasts an undeniably stunning location. Perched with panoramic ocean views, it's a feast for the eyes even before you step inside. The on-site restaurant is a definite highlight, offering a delightful dining experience with equally impressive vistas. If you're looking for a picturesque spot to enjoy a meal, this is it. However, the museum itself left much to be desired. While the setting is breathtaking, the art collection felt underwhelming. The variety and uniqueness of the displayed pieces were lacking, and I found myself searching for something to truly capture my attention. Furthermore, the museum felt surprisingly empty during my visit, with numerous vacant spaces, contributing to a somewhat hollow atmosphere. While the location and restaurant are strong draws, the art itself failed to deliver. Ultimately, I cannot recommend this museum as a must-see for tourists or a place I would personally revisit. If you're seeking a scenic dining experience, by all means, check out the restaurant/cafe. But for a fulfilling contemporary art experience, I would suggest exploring other cultural offerings in San Diego.

Food and ambiance were great! Lovely afternoon lunch on the terrace, quiet and serene. Service was attentive and helpful. Food, fresh and flavorful. The ocean view can’t be beat! Highly recommend!

I was a little nervous to visit at first, but I’m so glad I did, it was absolutely worth it! The views are stunning, truly some of the best I’ve ever seen. Photos don’t do it justice. The people are friendly, and the sound of the waves is so calming. I wish I lived nearby so I could come more often. This place is a hidden gem, I highly recommend visiting if you get the chance!

This beach is not that crowded compared to other SoCal beaches, and to access it, park at the hospital, but only on weekends. The beach is quite nice, has some tidepools and caves at both ends, and has some high waves perfect for bodysurfing. Also the beach is accessible by going down the 212-ish stairs to the beach, and the water and beach here seems more cleaner than other socal beaches.

The stairs keep the crowds away! There are a LOT of them. Definitely not 1000 but lots. It's easier to go down then come up. There is a lifeguard on duty and bathrooms at the bottom. Parking is TRICKY but it's well worth it. The beach is absolutely beautiful and it's clean and the water is so pretty. It wasn't crowded at all.

I had the pleasure of photographing a senior portrait session at Thousand Steps Beach. While this beach is a popular spot, it's not always my first recommendation for those traveling specifically for a photo shoot due to the crowds. However, it's an excellent option if you're already staying in one of the beautiful nearby homes. Despite the crowded conditions, the photo shoot was spectacular, and we captured some truly stunning images. If you're considering this location, I highly recommend visiting during the off-season in winter to avoid the crowds and have a more intimate experience. For any senior, family, or wedding photography needs, I'm available to help you find the perfect backdrop and capture beautiful memories, whether at Thousand Steps or one of the many other incredible beaches in the area.

First time coming here and it all starts with 1000 steps down!!!!…. Actually not that many, it’s more like 200-250 steps but they call it to make people prep for the beautiful view that that can see from the shoreline! If you are around, it’s worth the try going down there! BUT, there’s only one bathroom so if there are many people you have to wait for good long time like I did… good 30 mins waiting just to pee :( so I just suggest to go to the restroom before coming here or just go to nature :p Overall, I had a good time spending time here but ironically waiting for bathroom was longer than seeing the ocean view… yet still it’s worth it! So go visit! Enjoy the steps and the ocean view! Cheers 🥂

The steep stairway down may seem intimidating at first, but once you reach the bottom, you’re rewarded with stunning ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and soft sand stretching along the shore. The waves crash with a calming rhythm, and the whole place has a secluded, almost secret vibe. It’s the kind of spot where you can just sit back, breathe in the sea air, and lose track of time.

Awesome beach! If youre driving in, the parking is limited out on the road, so go early. Starts with a couple of hundred steps down. Which wasn't bad. Beach is beautiful and waves were active. -John Wayne's house sits here and believe it's a rental - Beautiful scenery - there was water access to clean feet - was a bathroom, but was locked, so not sure on availability - nice shopping and restaurants not far away Definitely recommend visiting if youre in the area
