Playgrounds
Kellogg Park, located at La Jolla Shores, is a beachfront park offering more than just a playground. The park features grassy areas perfect for picnics and lawn games, as well as dog walking paths. Tall palm trees and a boardwalk line the park's edge, separating it from La Jolla Shores Beach. At the southern tip of the park, visitors can find a playground with swings and slides.
We love coming here!!! A beautiful view of the ocean from the paved path, or you can walk in the sand. There is parking, restrooms, and a couple of food options nearby. The grassy areas here are nice for families to set up tents and canopies. There are lots of benches and trashcans available as well. Highly recommended visiting.
Lexie E — Google review
ended up here by accident while looking for the city park located north of Kellogg Park but ended staying here for the gentle ocean waves, ability to wade in the ocean, and food from restaurants nearby. love the outdoor showers and restrooms. this is a very busy beach ⛱️ so parking may be best to park in nearby neighborhood.
Jason H — Google review
This playground is probably one of the best in the area, especially considering that La Jolla is all about beaches, so playgrounds are quite rare here. It offers a variety of attractions for kids of all ages, including a sandpit, swings, and structures for little kids and bigger kids. The location is convenient, close to restrooms and restaurants. However, parking can be incredibly difficult to find, and the line to the restroom can get extremely long.
Foodie T — Google review
Great family beach! Clean, there's a bathroom and free parking. I went around 5:30p on a Wednesday and got parking right away. I'm sure it gets more crowded and might be harder at other times. Bring a blanket, some food and an umbrella for shade and you'll be set all day. I didn't see a place to get food, so if you make it a day trip, I do recommend bringing some.
Kay B — Google review
Family friendly. Lifguard stations. Swim and surf boarding areas. Playground. Grassy picnic area. Outside showers for sand removal. Restrooms. Our favorite for many decades!
Carol W — Google review
This place may be the best place for beach party and BBQ while watching the July 4th fireworks around the beaches in San Diego.

It is nice to have grass to sit on at the beach! My cousin and I enjoyed a beautiful view. Then we walked La Jolla Shores from one end to the other. Stop at the pier for an iconic photo.

It's a big area, it's two parks together. I thought it was all Kellogg, but I guess my other review is valid

Ellen Browning Scripps Park, located in downtown La Jolla, is a beloved green space along the coast that offers stunning panoramic ocean views. Named after a prominent member of the Scripps family, the park provides ample room for picnics and leisurely strolls along scenic walkways. It overlooks popular beaches such as La Jolla Cove and Children's Pool, which are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking.
Saw some baby seagulls! They were SO CUTE and FLUFFY!!! Sea lions were a CA sight to see as usual! Saw an interesting tree as well! If anyone knows what it is please let me know 🤣 Baby Seagulls are the 2 last images. Bathrooms were clean and well kept. Not too long of a wait either!
Holly R — Google review
The panoramic views here are absolutely breathtaking. Getting to see the sea lions that were literally everywhere, however stinky they may be, were still so beautiful & amazing. The park has an area where people were swimming in a cove with some of the prettiest blue/green water and even sea lions were swimming right with everyone, very close I might add! The walk thru the park was clean and very nice views.
BJ J — Google review
Ellen Browning Scripps Park is such a peaceful and scenic spot by the ocean. The views are stunning, and you can often see sea lions resting nearby. It’s clean, relaxing, and perfect for families or couples to enjoy the view. My niece loves to come here so much.

Ellen Browning Scripps Park in San Diego is a beautiful coastal park located along the shores of La Jolla, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Named after philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, who contributed greatly to the city’s development, the park is known for its sweeping ocean views, grassy lawns, and vibrant marine life visible from the nearby cliffs. Visitors often gather here to watch sea lions at the famous La Jolla Cove, enjoy picnics, or simply relax under the shade of tall palm trees. With its combination of natural beauty, walking paths, and proximity to beaches and tide pools, Ellen Browning Scripps Park is one of San Diego’s most scenic and beloved seaside spots.

This San Diego park at the beach offers a truly stunning backdrop for a marriage proposal. With scenic pathways, beautiful landscaping, and sweeping ocean views, it’s a location that guarantees beautiful and timeless memories. I've had the pleasure of capturing many special moments here, including a proposal for a well-known quarterback. If you're planning to pop the question in this perfect spot!
Jean P — Google review
Definitely a must see if you are in the San Diego area! I was not expecting to see the sea lions out playing around, but it was a nice surprise! The water is very clear for snorkeling or other water activities. The park is nice even though there are larger groups of people. I would definitely recommend for a thing to see around San Diego.
Royal G — Google review
Absolutely beautiful park right by the ocean. Perfect place to walk, relax, or just enjoy the views of the cliffs and water. Great spot for families, couples, or even a solo stroll. The area is clean, peaceful, and has some of the best scenery in La Jolla. A must-visit if you’re nearby!

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, located within the city limits of San Diego, is a breathtaking 2,000-acre coastal wilderness. It offers a diverse landscape with rare Torrey pine trees, chaparral plant communities, untouched beaches, and protected tidal zones. The reserve is perfect for hiking and wildlife enthusiasts who can explore oceanside trails while spotting occasional dolphins or bobcats.
Came to Torrey Pines with friends for an easy, scenic hike — and it was absolutely worth it. The trails are well-maintained and manageable, making it a great spot for all fitness levels. The ocean views along the cliffs are stunning, and the overall scenery is incredibly picturesque. Whether you’re looking to get some fresh air, take in coastal views, or snap a few great photos, Torrey Pines delivers. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a peaceful outdoor experience without a strenuous trek. Pro tip: For an easier hike, find parking at the top of the hill.
Raul R — Google review
This hike was amazing! 🌊 The entry fee was $20, and we drove all the way up to the top parking lot to start the West Overlook Trail (about 3 miles). The beginning was mostly downhill with incredible ocean views and cool lookout spots. The way back is uphill, so it’s definitely a workout—but worth it. I highly recommend wearing good shoes and bringing plenty of water, especially if you’re hiking midday.
Dristi T — Google review
Breathtakingly beautiful and serene! The mountains on one side and the ocean on the other side makes it even more scenic. So many beautiful trails leading to the peaks where you can watch the sunset or sunrise in the most spectacular views. I loved going here and will come back again and again! Hands down 5 star!
Bushra N — Google review
Beautiful beach, lot of trails - easy to moderate. Great views. I ended up doing many easy ones just for the views. Some trails can get very crowded and you may not enjoy the experience. Best solution is to go at your own pace and let the stream of people pass!! My best decision was to walk back along the beach after completing the trails. That was more adventurous and thrilling!!
Satish S — Google review
Came here on a Friday afternoon late September. $20 day use fee. Did my hikes from the parking lot across the road from the visitor center. Good amount of parking. I could see it being an issue on really busy days. Porta potties there with hand washing stations. Pretty clean porta potties that didnt smell too bad. Decently warm day but there was a breeze most of the time making it pleasant most of the time. Hiked to Red Butte, Razor Point, Yuma Overlook, and the beach. Took a bit more than an hour including meditation and picture time. Downhill mostly to beach then back uphill to parking lot. Mostly gentle. Nothing too crazy. I am a middle aged guy that sits at a computer working everyday for most of the day and have some mild asthma and still did just fine. Amazing stuff. Although there were plenty of people there, there were still quiet times to enjoy the ambiance and sounds and meditate. Scenery is unreal, and the trails are well marked. Pictures I attach do speak a thousand words and display the incredible scenery. Got my beloved souvenir patch and postcards at the VC, which has no bathrooms or water for water bottle. Highly recommended. I posted lots of pics because this place deserves it.
Jimmer W — Google review
A stunning place to hike in San Diego! You’ll see animals, geology, gorgeous ocean views, and our famous Torrey Pines. With parking lots both at beach level and on the cliffs, there are many options to start your hikes. There are numerous trails which intersect, so you can meander and never get lost. Whether you want an easy walk or a challenging hillside hike, you’ll find one here. This is a state park and admission at the time of this review was $20 per car. You can park on Torrey Pines Road for free if you can find a spot and walk in. We visited on a Sunday and arrived around 12 o’clock, so it was busy there was still still parking available. When we left at 1:30 it was much emptier, so mornings are definitely the busier time to go. I HIGHLY recommend Torrey pines for sightseeing and hiking. It’s the epitome of natural San Diego!
Debbie’s P — Google review
Fantastic place to walk, hike, jog or run. There is something for everyone. The trails can be narrow in some places and there are some steep areas, but those may have steps. It's so vast that I may have only passed fewer than 25 people in the hour I was there.
Eric M — Google review
This is a must-do in San Diego. As a local, it has the most beautiful views and great hikes. For cyclists, going up Torrey Pines is a right of passage. Not for the faint of heart. Parking can be a bit challenging during the summer but it’s totally worth it. The best sunsets in San San Diego. Bring a picnic or a burrito from Roberto’s which is right around the corner and enjoy the nature!

La Jolla Cove, located in the charming neighborhood of La Jolla, is a beloved destination for divers and beach enthusiasts. The area is home to the picturesque La Jolla Cove and the renowned La Jolla Underwater Park, which spans 6,000 acres of ocean floor and tidelands. This marine sanctuary is teeming with diverse sea life including seals, sea lions, Garibaldi fish, leopard sharks, and pelicans.
Beautiful views. We started by the cave and walked over to the children's pool. Beautiful scenery and breezy air in the morning. By the time we left around 11 am it was very crowded, on a Friday morning.
Nay — Google review
La Jolla Cove absolutely stole my heart! My son and I made it our morning ritual to visit the sea lions every day during our stay, and it quickly became the highlight of our trip. We would sit there for hours, just soaking in the beauty of nature and the sounds of the waves, the sea breeze, and the playful calls of the sea lions echoing across the cove. There’s something so peaceful and grounding about being there; it felt like time slowed down. The view is simply breathtaking, especially in the morning when the mist rolls in over the water. Every day was a little different: some mornings the sea lions were full of energy, barking and diving through the waves, while other days they were sprawled out like total beach bums, sunbathing without a care in the world. On weekends, it does get busier with tourists, but I didn’t mind at all. It made for great people-watching and added a fun, lively energy to the peaceful setting. The location itself is perfect… close to everything yet still feels like a hidden gem of natural beauty. If you visit San Diego, you must experience La Jolla Cove. It’s pure magic, a place where you can truly connect with nature and make memories that stay with you long after you leave.
Jayde H — Google review
La Jolla is a California dream—stunning ocean views, plenty of walking, and tons of spots for coffee, food, or dessert. Restrooms are right by the sea lions’ beach, and while parking can be tricky, nearby garages make it doable. Perfect for a day of exploring and soaking in the scenery!
Priscilla W — Google review
Beautiful panoramic view of beach and shore. Lots of animals and birds to watch. Very cool and breezy at times. Parking is difficult so be prepared to park little far from this place.
Puneeth R — Google review
Pretty great place to see birds and sea lions with an epic backdrop (if you can get over the smell) I saw a Brant’s Cormorant there and many more birds I will put pictures of below. Definitely should check it out. The sea lions and birds are so abundant and it is such a unique seen. You can park anywhere or walk if you are staying in La Jolla. Enjoy the photographs.
Avi R — Google review
La Jolla Cove is an awesome place to visit near San Diego. It is just a short drive outside of the city and offers some beautiful coastline scenery and marine life. There were multiple sea lions and birds to see and it is a great experience.

should be on the list if visiting sandieog. dream for surfers. they have tours that do surfing and snorkeling. rental equipments available too. parking is very limited and always busy. we had to stroll around for 15min to get parking spot on Wednesday morning, though we got free parking for 3hours. plan your visit either early morning or evening to watch sunrise/sunset as it's picturesque. unfortunately we realized this once we visited it.

Cuvier Park is a stunning coastal gem located in La Jolla, offering visitors an enchanting blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. This sandy beachfront park is perfect for surfing and swimming, while its picnic tables and BBQ facilities invite families to enjoy delightful outdoor meals against the backdrop of panoramic ocean views. One of its most notable features is the Wedding Bowl, a picturesque area that has become a popular venue for countless wedding ceremonies over the years.
This is also where weddings are held—a lovely spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s a great place to hang out and relax, regardless of age. Those with a passion for art are often seen bringing their drawing boards, preferring to capture the beauty with their brushes rather than with a camera.

Spectacular views. Clean beach. Plenty of free parking. Picnic benches. You can lie down and enjoy the views and surfers and spectacular sunset and sunrise. Great for older kids since there’s much to explore and play. A must visit.

A great view! If you strip away all of the traffic and the smell. Parking is a nightmare, you’ll have to follow someone until they leave and you hopefully get parking before a Tesla tries to steal it. But you have to try it, the photos I got were pretty cool!

Imagine starting your day in a coastal paradise, with the gentle rhythm of the waves as your soundtrack. Welcome to Cuvier Park, an exquisite spot nestled right by the ocean. With sweeping, majestic views that seem straight out of a postcard, this place is an absolute treat for the senses. As dawn breaks, watch the world come alive. The park becomes a vibrant tableau of morning walkers, joggers, and fellow nature enthusiasts, all basking in the glory of the new day. The community here is inviting, making it a great place to meet locals or simply observe the day-to-day bustle. But the true magic lies in the tranquil moments you get to steal for yourself. Nestled comfortably on a park bench, sipping your morning coffee, you can lose yourself in the soothing sounds of the ocean waves. It's a serene, almost meditative experience that you won't find anywhere else. Cuvier Park is not just a park, it's a haven of tranquility amidst the daily rush. So, take that detour before heading to the office. Start your day with a touch of coastal bliss. Trust me, your mind and soul will thank you.

Torrey Pines State Beach, located in La Jolla, is a picturesque stretch of sandy shoreline backed by cliffs and pine-wooded nature reserve. This beach offers various activities such as swimming, surfing, and leisurely walks along the three-mile coastline. Visitors can also explore the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve Park with its dedicated conservation efforts for the unique Torrey Pine tree and indigenous wildlife.
Great variety of hiking trails with fantastic views. The trails are easy to do (I finished everything in about 2.5 hours). It’s not overcrowded and easy to reach by car. Definitely worth a visit

Beautiful beautiful cliff. I went all the way around to the golf course and then came down to explore the cliff/beach. Took around 2.5 h. Make sure you bring water. There is really no escape from the sun. And do check the tides before going to access the beautiful walk on the beach.
Joon L — Google review
Hiking trails were closed unfortunately but the visitor center volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and we learned a ton about local sea life and such. Beautiful beach as well.
Nicole R — Google review
This is one of the quieter, more secluded beaches/cliff areas in San Diego — and like most places along the coast here, it’s absolutely beautiful. The beach below is peaceful, not crowded at all, with just a few surfers and scattered visitors. I didn’t go all the way down to the sand; instead, I viewed everything from the gliderport area, which sits high on a cliff and gives you an incredible panoramic view of the ocean. There is a path/stair-like trail that goes down to the beach, but it’s a steep climb and takes time, so I skipped it. Even just staying at the top was worth it — the breeze, the crashing waves, and the open view felt calm and refreshing. The area is also used for paragliding, so you’ll often see people launching from the cliff, which makes the spot even more interesting to watch. Parking is available, but the lot can be full, and the ground is uneven, dusty, and a bit rugged — not ideal if you don’t have a car with good clearance. I parked anyway, but my regular car struggled a bit, so it’s something to be aware of, especially after rain. It was slightly cloudy when I visited, but I can easily imagine this being a stunning sunset spot on a clear day. If you’re exploring San Diego, definitely add this place to your list — quiet, scenic, and perfect for just standing still and taking it all in.
Debisree R — Google review
Amazing place to spend time exercising or exploring all day! Loved this place so much❤️ About $20 for parking in their lot. Paved walking/hiking path showcasing beautiful vistas of the city, brackish waterways, forested hills to rocky shores & ocean. Great information center w helpful & knowledgeable park staff.

Beautiful trails, with a great variety of native plants on the bluffs and in the canyons. Be ready for some pretty good elevation gain, this is not a flat, shoreline, hike (nor is it El Cap). Bring water even in the winter. When they're out, dolphins, seals, occasionally whales, are visible from up there. In the summer we cool off from the hike with some time in the surf, looking back at the cliffs we were just on top of.

San Diego's La Jolla Underwater Park is a sprawling 6,000-acre ocean preserve that boasts artificial reefs, kelp beds, and a diverse marine ecosystem. It is home to an array of marine life including seals, sea lions, Garibaldi fish, leopard sharks (especially in late summer), and pelicans. The park also features seven sea caves that can be explored by kayak or snorkeling.
Not enough words to describe how awesome this place was. We did snorkling on our own and felt so safe because so many people were helpful. we saw so many Batrays amazing creatures and We did do a Kayak tour to La Jolla caves be ready for a workout if you have never kayaked in the ocean. Super cool place to visit if you're ever in San Diego. I came here to visit with a friend for a quick trip and the vibe was nice. I really enjoyed the beach and the history around it. It doesn't get too crowded and it's pretty clean. There are a lot of stores around where you can rent various aqua gear like kayaks, snorkeling equipment, surfboards, etc. Plenty of quick bites nearby as well. Great vibe in the San Diego area

Fun to scuba dive here. Easy short swim to the kelp. Visibility was pretty good 15' or so, but I hear that it gets even better (it was much better than I'm used to up in WA state). A neighborhood mini park nestled on a bluff above the ocean. Perfect place for quick picknic breakfast or lunch, limited seating with two park benches small, low to the ground, round table seats 4. Looking north along the coastline were scenic veiws at low tide. Street parking in a busy neighborhood.

What an amazing Beach... Great place for people watching and watching the seals playing in the sea, there's a neat little beach where you can snorkel out to get up close and personal with the sea life, you'll also see ground squirrels all along the small peninsula. It seems like every time I've been there the weather's been perfect. it's a great place for family get togethers.

One of the wonderful places in San Diego, really beautiful and I strongly recommend visiting this place, you will have a great view to the ocean over there, you can see pelicans that are on the Cliff, you can stop by the Cliff and watch those lovely birds and take wonderful photos, also there are good restaurants around the corner that have breath taking views to the ocean and cliffs. It is a busy area so if you want to find parking spots it is better to park on main streets that is free for 2 hours or park in parking lots that you will be charged around 10 $.

Not a typical “park”. It’s a beautiful place to view the coastline and/or the sunset. It is not a “kids park”. No restrooms, no picnic table, no playground. Just a small open space to sit and relax.

Cliffridge Park is a beautiful park located at the end of La Jolla Coast Road. The park offers stunning views of the ocean and cliffs that overlook the city. There are a variety of trails, playgrounds, basketball courts, picnic areas, and a grove of California and evergreen trees in the park.
I've been coming here for over 40 years the best place in San Diego's you can never see Cinema Jolla and the scene is beautiful weather is raining or clear day the best place in San Diego can never do. And on a clear day you point your compass South and look for a little tiny flag way far far away and that's Mexican

La Jolla Shores Park, also known as La Jolla Beach, is a renowned natural ecological reserve and a popular tourist destination in Southern California. It boasts excellent sandy beaches, cliffs, and clear blue waters suitable for various beach activities. The park offers a grassy area and playgrounds just steps away from the sand and waves. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, water sports, and even spot sea lions and seals basking close to downtown La Jolla.
The hardest part was getting there, tourists at our finest lol. The parking lot to beachfront is short and easy, can be a little bit of wait or circling for a spot. Came to stay all day. Showers and restrooms, lifeguards. It got crowded but not overly. Sea loins up the coast not far from beach, neat to see them. Beach was clean, people were kind. Lifeguards did a great job. Beautiful day.

It’s a beautiful beachfront spot where you can easily walk and enjoy long strolls throughout the day. The area isn’t too big but feels open enough. Walking here during sunset and watching the palm trees is truly relaxing. If you stay at a nearby hotel, you can walk straight from your room to the beach. Restrooms and showers are free and cleaned regularly, but they’re not spotless. Parking is also free, but finding a spot can be tricky, so it’s best to come early. You can bring your own food and drinks and enjoy them comfortably while you’re here. Overall, it’s peaceful, safe and perfect for families and couples. Highly recommend spending a day just watching the ocean, listening to the waves and feeling the breeze. It’s a place that really calms your mind and lifts your spirit. 🌴✨

We had an absolute blast at La Jolla Shore Park! The scenery is stunning, and getting to see sea lions and seals up close was unforgettable. They were lounging on the rocks, swimming around, and put on quite the show — such an amazing experience, especially for the kids. The park was clean, easy to walk around, and perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or just soaking in the ocean views. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in the area. Can’t wait to come back!

Good evening friend travelers. Well once again I am on my family trip to San Diego brought us here to La Jolla Shores at one point. Like I've stated before I believe La Jolla shores, La Jolla cove, Ellen Browning Park, expand maybe 5 to 6 miles long. With plenty of clothing stores, restaurants, souvenir shops, and entertainment. This nice little area is just amazing. Would beaches where you can go snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, or just taking a nice walk, hike, or even bicycle ride Play This Is The Place to do it. We came down to La Jolla Shores to try to see the waters illuminate at night if you have never seen that when the water or waves hit the shore it lights up a fluorescent blue, due to the algae. Which is amazing to see. Or you can even just sit on the beach and light a campfire and just relax, listening to the ocean, and finding that pure peace. So if you're ever in San Diego, come check this place out. Hope you enjoy the pictures, God bless

Beautiful public beach, except the furthest hotel sent out a security guard and told us that this area of the BEACH IS PRIVATE, SO WHY DON'T THEY HAVE A SIGN AND PERMIT FROM THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO???? WE WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES KICKED OUT!!! After walking from the pier to the EXCLUSIVE HOTEL WITH THEIR OWN PRIVATE BEACH, THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO BE ON A PRIVATE ISLAND, SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR PRIVATE BEACH!!!

Love it! Though it was busy, it was still serene enough to enjoy. There's so many places to sit - in the sand by the water, on the park benches, at the picnic table, on the lawn. A great place to visit.

Perched atop the breathtaking coastal cliffs of La Jolla, the Torrey Pines Gliderport is a renowned destination for paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts. Offering sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, rugged cliffs, and the Torrey Pines coastline, this site provides an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. Visitors can take to the skies for tandem or solo flights, or simply soak in the stunning surroundings while enjoying refreshments at the on-site cafe.
Stunningl! It's a must whether you're visiting or living in California. It's still free to access this natural and stunningly beautiful area. There's a cafe/restaurant if you want to get a bite and relax or bring a picnic and beach chairs. Binoculars and CAMERAS. Sensible shoes as terrain is rough and slippery (if you want to walk around or hike) - I was terrified to see a few visitors in heels and clearly not prepared. Listen to the whoosh and watch the wonder of the hang gliders. Or, just soak in the peace of the scenery. Parking was plentiful, but I wasn't there on a weekend, nor was there any evidence of a special event. Enjoy this gorgeous area. Marvel.

Torrey Pines Gliderport in San Diego is a world-famous aviation site perched atop the scenic cliffs of La Jolla, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Known as one of the best coastal soaring locations in the world, it attracts hang gliders, paragliders, and remote-control model sailplane enthusiasts year-round. The site has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, when aviation pioneers first tested gliders there. Today, visitors can watch colorful paragliders take off and glide effortlessly over the ocean or even take tandem flights with certified instructors. With its combination of adventure, history, and stunning coastal beauty, Torrey Pines Gliderport is a must-visit destination for thrill-seekers and sightseers alike.

Absolutely amazing experience! I was paired up with a very experienced and fun pilot, Alex. He made me feel completely comfortable and safe. But he did some tricks and let me take over for a few minutes as well. The view and the feeling of soaring with the birds is hard to describe. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Do call to check the winds or go early and sign up then hike around the area and come back when you see gliders going up. Brought my gopro and got great video. But they also will take pics of you. Tuesday and Thursday if you pay cash you get those free.

Visited this spot to watch the hang gliders and hike the dirt paths. We followed the winding dirt path down to Black’s Beach where we walked along the water averting our eyes from the nude sunbathers. If you aren’t aware, the nudity at Black’s Beach will catch you by surprise. Everyone was minding their own business though, so it was no big deal. The hike back up the cliff was exhausting with the many stairs and steep incline. We stopped by the cafe for some lemonade and then rested on the upper deck while the hang gliders came and went. Watching the whole process over and over made it look easy and very safe. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. The bathrooms were closed when we visited, but there were portapotties available. Mid-day on a Tuesday, the parking lot was pretty full, but I was able to find a spot close to the entrance. I don’t recommend visiting right after a car wash because the parking lot is very dusty and bumpy. The flights are $200-$275 per person for a 20 minute ride and I believe they offer free photographs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Otherwise, you have to pay for the photos they take. Might have to return soon to check “hang gliding” off of my bucket list!

The glider port is a friendly place. I'll be at a little difficult to navigate If it's your first time. Nothing beats the views where you get a up close experience with the pairagliders landing and taking off. Good food and libations can be found as well. Nestled along the stunning coastline of La Jolla, Scripps Coastal Reserve is a breathtaking destination that beckons nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This expansive reserve, part of the renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, features scenic walking trails that meander through picturesque landscapes adorned with seasonal wildflowers. As you traverse the well-maintained paths, you'll be treated to spectacular ocean views and may even spot local wildlife such as sea lions and coyotes.
This is absolutely my favorite piece of San Diego coastline! I often run through here from La Jolla Shores. This is a great place to escape the crowds and experience a more secluded remote beach adventure. It's not easy to get to ands requires a bit of a hike but it's well worth the effort. If you go in the water be careful of stingrays. I've been hit twice by stingrays. Practice the stingray shuffle when wading in the water but if a stingray does stab you with that nasty barb then get to the lifeguard station at La Jolla Shores as quickly as you can for a hot water soak. Soaking the foot in super hot water will take away the swelling and pain in less than an hour.

This sunset watching spot is beautiful! Scripps Coastal Reserve is popular spot, it was crowded when I came. People came here for a mini picnic with sandwich, fruits, and soda. Some benches are closer to the cliff. San Diego has a lot of sunset spots but this one is definitely one of the bests.

Update: still not open (8/2022). Such a shame as this is a beautiful spot. Not open during covid!! Regardless, this is my favorite spot in San Diego to walk around and watch the sunset/waves. Easy street parking on La Jolla Farms Rd.

The tide pools at the Scripps Coastal Reserve are only accessible twice daily, during low tide. Just a short walk on the beach from La Jolla Shores, the tide pools are teeming with wildlife. Small coastal fish, sea anemone, sea slugs, crabs and more can be found in these pools. Shore birds, like the Least Tern and skillful aquatic fishing birds like Egrets can be found feasting during low tide. Check the tide charts before your visit so that you are not disappointed. Parking can be found at La Jolla Shores. The pools are about a mile north on the beach passing the Scripps pier on the way. The pools are part of a Protected Wildlife sanctuary, the San Diego-Scripps State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA). As such the removal of anything from the reserve is strictly prohibited.

The park features a grassy area for picnics and dog play, as well as a natural habitat ideal for short hikes. It is a popular spot for picnics, walks, and meetups with its panoramic views of the city and the coast.
This is the best park if you want the most awesome view of mission Bay with San Diego in the background. The cityscape is awesome. With a primary trail stretching from the Tecolote Nature Center in the south to the North Clairemont Recreation Center in the north – and several side trails linked to neighborhoods – Tecolote Canyon Natural Park is an enjoyable place to go take a hike. I parked at the Nature Center, where the Tecolote Canyon Trail - South starts. (App “Hiking Project” divides the TCT into North and South segments.) The City’s map and signs in the park itself don’t name the trail – they just call it “Trail” with arrows telling you which way to go. There are, however, signs that tell you where the branch trails will take you. My hike, took me north, then east to Genesee Ave. The first mile or so of the trail is wide and used by official vehicles. It rained the night before my hike so that part of the trail had big puddles, mud, and puddles of mud (but no Puddle of Mudd). The rest of the trail brought me under streets, over streams, down narrow paths, and up steep hills. I reached the east end of the trail (Genesee Ave.) and spent some time there viewing works of art (graffiti) in the 2 tunnels crossing under the street. The trails are more interesting from past the golf course (going north) to Genesee because it’s mostly spooky cool trees and streams with plenty of shaded areas. I had to cross the streams that run through the park several times in each direction. The hike is about 7 miles round-trip. I’m saving the TCT - North for another day. The Nature Center is small but worth a visit. No fee to enter. Restrooms available. NOTE: The correct name for this park is Tecolote Canyon Natural Park, NOT Tecolote Canyon Natural Open Space Park as it appears on Google Maps.
Craig B — Google review
Tecolote Canyon is a beautiful and peaceful place to explore. The trails are well maintained and easy to walk, which makes it a relaxing spot for a casual hike. I’ve seen lots of wildlife here, including squirrels, bunnies, ducks, red hawks, snakes, and some small interesting insects. It’s a great place to enjoy nature without feeling far from the city. The trails have clear signs that help you know where you are going, so it’s hard to get lost. Overall, it’s a great spot to unwind and take in the natural surroundings.

It is on the grade of the 1924 - 1940 street car line. If you go south on it, you will come to a bike path. If you go north on the bike path, you will come to La Jolla High School. If you take the bike path south, you will come to the La Jolla Methodist Church. The platform on the west side of the bike path is the loading dock from when part of this building was the street car station for La Jolla Hermosa. There is usually parking on Draper, just below the park.

Beautiful park where locals like to gather an watch the sunset. Also a great place to bring our dogs. It is so fun watching the dogs of all sizes play together. The park is very small but it is on a gorgeous bluff. The sound of the waves on the rocks below is heavenly. What a beautiful place.

Very small park, behind a elementary school. It was quite busy and full when I went by. I would go somewhere else if you are trying to walk or play sports.

Field has a lot of bare spots and holes. People let their dogs run off leash which I don't think is allowed. And it doesn't look like they pick up all remnants. Parking is on street only.

great park that is shared with the school, but too many people have their dogs there off leash. Usually there are a lot of kids playing up there if it is a nice day.

I needed to find a place to eat my sandwich and Kate sessions was so packed with people who weren’t social distancing. This place was acceptable but it felt weird to be outside after so long indoors also there was no bathroom.

Water & Amusement Parks
Theme park
Belmont Park, located on Mission Bay in San Diego, is a historic amusement park dating back to 1925. It offers a mix of vintage games, gift shops, and thrilling rides right next to the beach. The park's iconic Giant Dipper wooden roller coaster provides breathtaking views of the San Diego skyline and surrounding mountains. Additionally, visitors can enjoy attractions like zipline courses and carousels.
Wow what can I say if you haven't been to Belmont park you need to go. This little amusement park is right off of the beach. It is free to get in, but if you are going to get on the rides all of them I suggest get a wristband. If not a lot of the rides are like seven tickets and up. Each ticket costs a dollar. There are clothing stores here as well as gift shops. Has a lot of concession stands with amazing food. They also have this area called The Plunge or something where it's an indoor pool for the kids where the parents can work out at top. And the price is very reasonable and decent. There is also an arcade here as well as a little Carnival booths. And if you get bored here it's just a hop skip and jump away from the beach you walk to the back and there you go. Like I said if you haven't been here to Belmont in San Diego, it's a must your kids will love it. Here are some pictures from this park. Hope you enjoy, God bless you all.

Belmont Park Dipper Dash 5K: The Most Fun 5K Ever! I had the pleasure of completing the Dipper Dash 5K, and it truly was the best and most fun 5K ever! What a fantastic way to celebrate Belmont Park's 100th anniversary. The course was incredibly unique, running through the park and around the iconic Giant Dipper roller coaster, plus a great section along the beach. It had a fantastic, energetic atmosphere right from the start. The post-race recovery was top-notch with treats like chocolate milk and a pizza port popup 😋! I highly recommend this race for a unique San Diego event that perfectly mixes fitness with classic amusement park fun.

We had an amazing time yesterday. Having a wristband makes it so easy to hop on rides. Not crowded either and all the staff were very nice. We were able to ride the same rides multiple times. Miniature golf is included in the bands. Will go back next week!! So fun and right by the beach.

Went here after work to walk 3 miles. The parking lot was packed but still able to find a parking spot. The beach walking path is definitely interesting! From the parking lot to Pacific Beach and back is 4 miles. Loved the bubble lady!

It's a fantastic spot for a few hours of fun and a great way to combine an amusement park visit with a beach day. Come for the classic atmosphere and the roller coaster, stay for the beach views and a fun family time. Just plan ahead for parking and consider a ride pass to maximize the value. Recommended!

Great for families. The location is amazing with the beach and Mission Bay playground right there. Seeing historic rides like the Giant Dipper was a real treat. Parking is challenging, but there are plenty of public lots if you don't mind a short walk. Highly recommended!

Such amazing views of the Pacific Ocean for the first time. Easy access to the Beach. All the varieties of shops from food, merchandise, snacks, rentals and the amusement park rides is so much fun all in one place.

Don't come on the weekends! Belmont park shares same parking spot as mission beach and parking spot is hard to come by. Closing doesn't match what online say because google said it closed 7pm on the weekend but when I ask the people that work there. they said they closed 11 pm and happy hour deals on food starts 8pm and that's were night club people comes flocking in. Wouldn't recommend to buy souvenirs here, there much better deals on mission beach strip. Restroom are clean and well kept. So much activities and so busy!

Nestled above a wide sandy beach, Powerhouse Park in Del Mar offers stunning Pacific Ocean views and a range of amenities for visitors. The park features a children's playground, picnic areas, and restrooms, making it an ideal spot for families to enjoy a day out. For those seeking a romantic setting, the lush green lawns provide the perfect backdrop for a picturesque picnic. Additionally, guests can take advantage of private event options accommodating up to 24 people.
A great spot to relax and enjoy quality time with children. The swing seats offer a beautiful ocean view. There’s even a mini sand area for kids to play, making it a perfect place for family fun.

There's a large grassy area overlooking the ocean, great for picnics. There's plenty of benches for watching the surfers. Music events are common over the summer. Paid parking is available across the street, but there's also street parking if you get lucky. There are several restaurants walkable for lunch.

Google Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Del Mar Beach and Powerhouse Park are absolute gems! The beach is stunning, with soft sand, gentle waves, and breathtaking views—especially at sunset. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, letting kids play, or just enjoying the peaceful sound of the ocean. Powerhouse Park, right next to the beach, is an amazing spot for families. The grassy area is great for picnics, and there’s a playground for kids to enjoy. It’s also a fantastic place to sit and take in the ocean views. The combination of the beach and the park creates a welcoming, community-focused space where everyone can unwind and appreciate the beauty of Del Mar. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this is a must-see spot in Southern California!
Samuel G — Google review
Powerhouse Park in Del Mar, San Diego, is nothing short of spectacular. It combines the serene beauty of a coastal escape with the charm and accessibility of a well-maintained public park, making it, in my opinion, one of the best beach destinations in the world. From the moment you arrive, the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean greets you with open arms. The park sits on a bluff directly overlooking the beach, offering panoramic views of the coastline, vibrant sunsets, and the calming sound of crashing waves. It’s an ideal spot for picnics, leisurely strolls, or simply relaxing with a book while enjoying the sea breeze. The beach itself is wide and clean, with soft sand and gentle slopes into the ocean. It’s perfect for all kinds of beachgoers—whether you’re looking to swim, surf, or just lay out in the sun. The waves are moderate, making it a great spot for both seasoned surfers and beginners. Families with kids will love the tide pools at low tide, where little ones can explore and discover marine life in a safe and fun way. The grassy park area is beautifully maintained and includes plenty of benches and picnic tables, ideal for gathering with friends or hosting casual events. The iconic Powerhouse Community Center building adds a unique architectural charm to the location, and it’s often used for weddings and celebrations thanks to its unbeatable oceanfront setting. What really sets Powerhouse Park apart is its atmosphere. It’s peaceful and relaxing, yet full of life. You’ll often see joggers, yogis practicing at sunrise, families enjoying picnics, and surfers running toward the waves. And just a short walk away, you’ll find a variety of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques along Camino Del Mar—making it easy to spend the whole day in the area. Free and metered parking is available nearby, though it can get crowded during weekends and holidays, so arriving early is a good idea. Restrooms and showers are also conveniently located, making it practical for a full day at the beach. All in all, Powerhouse Park offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, recreational fun, and coastal charm. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this beach delivers a memorable experience every time. It’s more than just a beach—it’s a little slice of paradise.

Presidio Park in San Diego is a significant historical landmark that offers a blend of cultural museum, historical sites, and natural beauty. The park encompasses the Junipero Serra Museum, showcasing artifacts related to Spanish and Mexican heritage, colonization, and early Californian customs. Initially built as a defense post for colonists, the Presidio later served as a military headquarters. Visitors can explore the 40-acre park with scenic trails and picnic spots while discovering its rich history.
Such a beautiful place and so many nice restaurants to stop and have lunch, highly recommend walking around and enjoying a day at presidio park and just for your information: Presidio Park in San Diego is where the San Diego Presidio was originally established in 1769 by Spanish settlers. It was the first permanent European settlement on the Pacific Coast of the present-day United States. The fort was built to protect Spanish missions and settlers from attack and to help control the surrounding territory.
K B — Google review
The Presidio is a stunning public park in San Francisco, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The park is rich in history and culture, as it was originally established as a military post by Spain in 1776 before transitioning to Mexican control and eventually becoming part of the United States in 1846. For over 200 years, it played a key role in the military history of the region, and many of its historic buildings and landmarks still stand today. The park is a haven for nature lovers, with several walking and hiking trails that wind through forests, open meadows, and scenic overlooks. There are plenty of seating areas to relax and take in the surroundings, as well as a large grassy field where pets can play freely. For those looking to grab a bite or a coffee, there’s a cozy café within the park. Weekends at the Presidio are lively and bustling with visitors, adding to its charm. Free parking is available on weekends, making it convenient for families and tourists. Keep in mind that it can get windy, so it’s a good idea to bring a hat or jacket. Whether you’re walking the trails, enjoying the ocean views, or learning about its history, the Presidio is a beautiful spot to spend the day.

I just passed by this little park when I was walking on the Bayside walk. It looks for small playground for little kids and families. It’s great location if the kids want to play the water by the bay. They can play the sand and calm water. If you have a baby with stroller then just walk by the long bayside walk. I parked my car the other side of the park but seems like no park public parking. Just street parking here. There is a public restroom near the park. There is a grassy area near the park where you can put your blankets and have a picnic with your kids. There’s few trees and shades as well.

It’s a great neighborhood park that has playground, grassy area, restrooms, with easy access to the bay thru flat paved walkway from the parking lot. It’s really ideal for paddle boarding or kayaking. But parking is painful here. The space between cars is also tight. Limited street parking because it’s a dense neighborhood. All you need is luck. La Jolla Heights Natural Park, also known as La Jolla Natural Park or La Jolla Heights Open Space, is a stunning 42-acre natural preserve situated atop Mount Soledad. The park offers breathtaking 360-degree views of San Diego, including the lush greenery of La Jolla County Club's golf course to the north and panoramic vistas of La Jolla Village and Cove to the west.
Nice little hike uphill for some nice views of La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean. It got steep at times, so I wouldn't recommend it for little kids. Up on top is a big open area with a bench and trashcan (see pictures). The entrance was tiny and unassuming, so it was tricky finding it. Otherwise a nice, little hike if you wanna get away from all the noise and all.

Great views of the ocean and La Jolla. Fairly steep so bring proper shoes.
Abby M — Google review
Hidden gem above the noise and traffic on Torrey Pines Road overlooking the La Jolla Cove. Unpaved path leading to the top of a hill with wonderful view to the north. On clear days you get to see the mountain ranges north of Los Angeles in the Angeles National Forest.
Chen D — Google review
Steep and challenging hike. From westbound Torrey Pines Rd, turn left on Exchange and turn right on Al Bahr Drive. Go under a bridge and the trail will be on the left. Trail is only a half mile long, starts about 250 feet in elevation and gets to over 600 at the top. Many side trails have incredible views. It puts you on the edge of a gated, private residential neighborhood. It's easier to use Country Club Rd. to get back down.
Zach F — Google review
Best views in La Jolla! Steep at the beginning, then a bit of an uphill for quite a ways, but remember to turn around periodically! Trailhead is right past the bridge on Al Bahr. Or you can skip the climb and drive straight to the top on Brodiaea, but what fun is that?

Great little hike. Very steep at the onset, but then very moderate up to the top. Continue past the tower and across the pavement to the top. Beautiful and quiet park in the middle of the neighborhood, great to come with kids, throw an picnic or just enjoy some sun, great views of the surrounding areas loads of green everywhere! Highly recommend this place as one of the better parks around San Diego

Took my 3 year old daughter there for a few hours and she had fun. The playground equipment was sturdy, clean, up to date, and my little one had fun. Nothing seemed unsafe or wanting. Two families were having private parties with bouncy castles. Lots of bright youngsters running around. Good times. Plenty of parking was available at a peak time to go a park with a kid, i.e., 11am on a Sunday. The amenities are on par with the caliber of the surrounding neighborhood. Overall, I will return here with my daughters from time to time for sure.

First time here so can't say much. Gorgeous lake. Well kept. Looks like they offer lake equipment rentals as well as bike rentals even small ones for kids! Unlike Lake Murrey you can actually walk all around which I loved. The one thing I didn't like is that they let people drive in and most of them drove super fast. This is a small but beautiful park that is located in a nice neighborhood. The views are stunning and the park is well kept. The only disadvantaged to this park is the lack of parking. Parking isn’t great, but the park is. Plenty of seating, decent shade, lots of fun and challenging stuff for the kiddos to do at any young age. The skate track is cool and gets busy but there are enough old school people who give the little kids time and confidence to ride. The field is huge enough to have your own thing without getting in each other’s way. Also the sidewalk is long and wide enough to walk, run, bicycle, skate, or scooter some laps.

Small in size but they sure packed in alot. It's behind a building so you can't see it too clearly from the street but once your there, you won't be disappointed. Lots of different playgrounds of all sizes. Most of them had to do with climbing so if you're kids love to climb, this is the place to be. Smaller kids might find some of the playgrounds difficult but they also have grassy fields and basketball courts to use if that's the case. Not too packed when I went so I would go again

Situated atop a seaside bluff, this verdant area adorned with seating provides a space for both gatherings and repose. Notably, the protected marine regions commence at Torrey Pines State Beach and terminate at La Jolla Cove. Nestled in Bird Rock, this charming little park offers an ideal spot to unwind while marveling at the soothing crash of ocean waves upon the shore. The vistas of the sea are breathtaking, accompanied by a tranquil symphony of crashing waves.
We had a 15 person wedding in October (with a permit approved through the state/county) and WOW. It was like a venue people pay thousands for. We had our ceremony during sunset so the park was busy. We were able to set up around 3pm on one of the furthest spots that was kind of isolated and although there must have been an audience ( the park cheered for us 😍😍🥹🥹)-it felt private. For all the upcoming weddings- don’t fret- it is amazing!!!

Calumet Park is perfect for a small, informal family wedding. Located on a grassy bluff overlooking a Bird Rock beach, this setting is a great alternative to a beach ceremony without the sand. Add some puffy clouds and a beautiful sunset and viola ... perfect photo ops galore. Calumet Park is pet friendly and super accessible with plenty of free curbside parking; no reservation required. There are no facilities, so a picnic type scene would work, but probably not good for a reception.

The views of the ocean were stunning, and the sound of the waves crashing was so peaceful. The park was well-maintained and had plenty of benches for visitors to enjoy. Great to pick up pastries from Wayfarer then eat them in front of the breathtaking Pacific ocean. Sometimes there are yoga groups doing some meditation. I highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic outdoor experience.

Amazingly beautiful park in the middle of gorgeous million dollar homes... it looks like “nothing” until you get to the cliff overlooking the beautiful beach and sunsets are stunning... it was so pretty in fact, that we got married there! Tip: you DO need a permit for the day but it’s inexpensive and WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Dog park
The Capehart Dog Park is located at the corner of Felspar and Soledad Mountain Road. It features two fenced pens on turf areas, each for large or small dogs. There is also a designated area for large dogs and one for small dogs with water, picnic tables, a drinking fountain, parking, and benches.
It was quite clean albeit quite small. The elders in the park didn't scowl at me or give me any grief so that was nice. The bench that is shaped as a bone is quite exciting. Quite nice!

Updated 01/12/25 Small dog side: I value my dogs’ health & my own health too much to come here anymore. My dogs were met with hostility at the front door by seven dogs. Of which, no one called their dog back. I followed my dogs so that they could poop. And, nearly stepped in 15 (oh man! I did step in) & I’m not exaggerating abandoned poops. Meanwhile, 9 people sit on the patio ignoring their dogs. I used to pick up the poop; up to 30 poops every short visit. I won’t anymore. Because, it is so disgusting. I don’t know about the health of the dogs that are leaving the poop behind as I’ve seen worms and questionable items in the poop. The grass is always soggy & muddy & flea-ridden. After 9.5 years, I’m extremely disappointed in he downfall of the closest dog park to my home. ——— Wear disposable shoe booties or you will take home someone else’s poop. I’ve been coming to Capehart Dog park for 9 years. It’s convenient to where I live BUT is NOT my 1st choice. Regarding the Small dog side: Pros: fully fenced with functioning fountain and constant supply of poop bags Cons: you don’t have full visibility of dogs at the end when you sit near the table. Years ago, chairs were no longer allowed on the grass. So people, ESPECIALLY THE ELDER CROWD, do not follow their dogs to the grass to pick it up. The younger crowd 18-50 & their dogs are generally great. The elder crowd & their elder dogs tend to have an unprovoked bad attitude. Tip: avoid the small dog park 4-5pm.

Great little place. My dog is a fearful dog (non-socialize) and could turn aggressive, but the mommies and daddies there are so supportive and help him get through the fear the first time we visited.
Thirada K — Google review
The small dog area is super nice and has grass. However, there is a group of old people that think they own the park and are rude to people they don’t know. The large dog area is just dirt and no shade. Lots of people don’t pick up their dog poop.
Brenda B — Google review
Pretty well-maintained, no escape spots to my knowledge and a great place to meet other dog owners in the community. I really like the little area to take the dogs off leash before entering, as well as the water fountain. Just be careful if your dog has a weakened immune system, they should stay home from any dog park including this one 😉🐾 other than that, it is a little small and I wish there was some actual grass, but overall great little spot!

This review is for the small dog side.We were staying at a local hotel while on vacation.my dogs needed a place to stretch their legs. This turned out to be a pleasant surprise considering the reviews. When we arrived a elderly man was picking up poop. He seemed a little mad that he had to pickup after others. I don't blame him. There were plenty of doggie poop bags available. Also there were plenty of chairs and some shade.p.s only a porta potty for a restroom
Wayne T — Google review
Positives: There are separate small and large dog areas. The areas are fully fenced in and have a water fountain for dogs and people. There’s a dedicated parking lot. Negative: The larger dog area is a medium sized dirt field with no vegetation - nothing interesting to sniff or explore. There is no shade for the dogs except under the picnic tables.
Gini K — Google review
Great small dog park with plenty of seating, community tennis balls, and water bowls. People are friendly and respectful. It would be nice if some folks cleaned up a bit more after their fur kids, but besides that it’s a great park.

Lake Murray Community Park is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. The park is clean, well-maintained, and offers plenty of space for walking, picnics, and outdoor activities. It’s perfect for families and friends to spend time together. Highly recommend visiting!
Gabriela C — Google review
Just a wonderful place to take kids, stroll around the distance-marked path, ride bikes, feed ducks, go fishing or paddle boating! It is a mecca for the outdoors lovers inside a metropolitan area! Always a favorite, with a small shop for fishing permits, fishing supplies, ice cream or tackle. Just sit under one of the expansive shade trees and contemplate the wonders of nature. Such a beautiful, tranquil locale with so many things to see and do. Motorized boats are not permitted nor is swimming. (It eventually reaches our water taps). As of February 2022 water levels have been noticeably lowered.
James B — Google review
Went to check out the high water condition. Many of the trees are knee deep, some of the cement tables and benches were surrounded in rising water currents. Was so beautiful. This one bush has fantastic pink tip growth. Was worth the trip👍

Love this park It's very clean, big grass space for playing. Structure is nice and clean. Fun little things like rock climbing, exercise equipment, rolling slide, spining thing. The only thing is bathrooms, there is a portal potty, feels hot in there, but they clean it every 3/4 days. It's spacious, would fit a big stroller or even for handicap. Nice track around it for kids to ride their bikes or for us to just walk around. Obviously there is also a lake, so nice view. You can walk back their on the trail and enjoy the lake.
Family S — Google review
Nice place to chill around be it short picnic, BBQ, water activity boating canoe,, no swimming allowed, walking/running/bicycling with pet or w/o around the lake are all great activities to enjoy the outdoor. I try to walk 3 to 4 miles within an hour or so to obtain a piece of mind and to boost my energy. Entire lake walk maybe about 6 miles. Depends on your walk time, it can be heavy trafficked at times. I go late afternoon and park on Baltimore side of the street. This way you are not limited to closing if you are parked inside the Lake Murray Park.Great place to explore, go and have at it.

Beautiful lake. You can rent a boat for 50 bucks, bike all around and walk around to the lake. A lot of birds. Also fishing. Most people around here are super friendly. Free parking.

Really fun for kids and families! The playground is very big and there is a very large grass area around it. There are four picnic tables with partial shade which is good because it gets very hot here. Wish they were fully covered though because there aren’t enough trees for shade. The good thing is the playground has partial covers so it prevents them from getting too hot. Overall we love coming here because it’s also next to the lake. A hidden gem! I forgot to add: there is one porter potty a few yards away from the playground
Gil M — Google review
Playground: Relatively new, one structure for younger kids, one for older kids. Very impressive and lots to do for the kids. The flooring is tanbark. There was a good amount of shading above the benches. My toddler had fun. Bathrooms: One large and clean portapotty available. Parking: Street parking .25 miles away, off a quiet street. Location: In the middle of a suburb on the exterior of Lake Murray. Safety: No unhoused, lots of kids and adults. No trash on the playground.

31Grape Street Dog Park

Dog park
The Grape Street Dog Park is a five acre off-leash dog park located in Balboa Park. The park has mature eucalyptus trees and wide lawns, making it a great place for dogs to play. There are also two dog water fountains available for use.
My favorite non beach dog park in the area (the other being little Italy). Good parking. Great size--it's big enough to walk around. Great views, shade, and views. It's mostly dirt but it's like a composite of dirt and some soil so it's not necessarily "dirty". The only big potential downside (depending on your dog) is that it is not completely fenced in.
Javan P — Google review
It’s a really nice and fresh, my dog likes it, there’s a lot of empty space if you’re dog is the type of walk and explore rather than socializing but the only bad thing would be that there are coyotes although I haven’t seen any so far, but be aware and safe! The community seems to be very welcoming to anyone that’s willing to join and that’s wonderful. It’s definitely a place that me and my dog are willing to try! 🙂‍↕️
Zahira L — Google review
This is the greatest dog park I've ever been to... by far! There's everything you could want - acres of space, benches, nice scenery, lots of trees, a watering station and even bathrooms. I find the park to be very well-maintained and frequented by friendly dogs. (I have a smaller dog that can be vulnerable around larger aggressive dogs) I always feel safe bringing her here. From what I have experienced I can expect to see on average from 20 - 60 dogs across the acreage. The dogs are socially balanced and owners are responsive. I would highly recommend this dog park as a must see!
Zach W — Google review
The best dog park in San Diego. It's completely open, little and big dogs mingling together. It's great.
Robert M — Google review
After more than 25 years of bringing my dogs to this park, I have to find a new favorite. The last couple of years in the Spring, they would re-seed the park and let the grass grow nicely! Then they would immediately start overwatering it to the point where it is nothing but a 5 acre mud pit. Having 3/4 of the park blocked off for 4 months at a time for re-seeding would be worth it if they let the grass be, but the overwatering is making the park unusable. Even after they've killed all the grass they keep watering it and I can't imagine why!
Ryan J — Google review
Love it here!! Always enjoy seeing all the wonderful dogs playing. Update: I've been coming here for years and I love it. A little bummed that the beautiful grass they put in didn't last long, but whatever. The park is starting to look even better each week. We came to the park one day and saw that they were making the bathroom look amazing bu painting little murals all around. It was nice to see some of these kids painting some of the animals, which looked amazing! So many people were happy to see this! I for one as I stopped to take a picture. BUT, I have to say I was a little disappointed when I came back to the park a couple days later and saw that the murals had been painted over making the bathrooms looked bland as before. I talked to someone else whom frequents there ans it seems that they need a permit to paint the bathrooms as it would be considered "Graffiti!" I would hope the right people will allow this to be painted again as its cheery and fun and makes the park more lively than it already is with our wonderful pups! I'll think good positive thoughts that this gets done sooner rather than later as this park is wonderful and we've met many wonderful friends here.

I came here over a year ago, and the landscaping was a little rough, so I was hesitant to come back. I'm glad I did because a lot of effort has been made into keeping this area nice! Beautiful paths have been made, the landscaping is lovely, great views, and a wide space for all of the friendly pups. This park stays busy, but there's plenty of room and places to sit. Plus, you can go off on the trails if your dog is on a leash. Now my favorite dog park 🐕🐶

Been playing coed soft toss for years here, clean and very well maintained. Restrooms are clean and locked overnight (this park is open 24 hours - no gate locking the front access). Right next to Miramar college but don’t turn there keep going and when you see the traffic light make a U Turn and then enter the park at either entrance (one right after the U Turn, another turn into the parking lot a little further up the road). Can’t express how important a well maintained field is when playing - this park is also easy to access and near public transportation stops.

Linda Vista Park is a city park that offers a variety of amenities for sports enthusiasts and families. The park features well-lit sports fields and courts, a recreation center, picnic areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, and an indoor basketball gym. One of the main highlights is the impressive skatepark designed by the Skatepark Project (formerly known as the Tony Hawk Foundation).
One of the best skateparks I've ever been too!! A little something for everybody's style here!! The locals takeover but don't get to discouraged, we all love skateboarding so go have fun!!

This is for the actual park not the concrete skate park. The actual park is incredibly dirty. When I parked I was shocked at how much trash there was on the ground. There was a man sitting on the curb looking very out of it. And a crowd forming around some cops ejecting a homeless encampment. I had not seen a homeless encampment in any other local park at the time. Maybe all this cut my visit short because I could not believe how terrible this park is.

The best part of this park was the atmosphere. There is a large skate park, small playground, sports field, bathrooms. Everything needed in one place. The park was humming with the buzz of people, from the youth football practice, the many people using the skate park, a community festival, and kids on the playground. I thoroughly enjoyed this park!

The skatepark is truly a work of art! I'm sure there were some playgrounds and other stuff around the skatepark but all I could see was the wide variety of banks, transitions, pools, ledges and rails that seemed to flow from the enormous full pipe that crowns the place.

4S Ranch Sports Park is a fantastic recreational spot for sports enthusiasts. The park features well-maintained turf fields suitable for pick-up soccer and late-night games, with lights staying on until late. Additionally, there are baseball diamonds and a field hockey area available. Families can also enjoy the clean playground for kids. However, parking can be challenging due to the popularity of the park, which hosts multiple games simultaneously.
The sports center and park are wonderful for families and athletes, offering clean facilities and a well-maintained environment. However, the restrooms near the baseball field urgently need better lighting at night. It feels unsafe for women and could deter visitors. Improving this would create a safer and more inclusive experience for everyone.

There are basketball courts, table-tennis tables, clean restrooms and fully equipped kids sanded and soft cushioned play grounds. There is an entrance to hiking tracks that take you up the Black Mountain top that is dominated by large satellite dishes and antenna towers or its lower Miners Ridge over looking million dollar newly built homes. The park itself is high up on a hill top (hence the name) and breezy, over looking Carmel High School's and Black Mountain Middle School's football and baseball yards, surrounding residential neighborhoods, and spetacular views. Although the park closes at 7pm, 5 pm on the weekend , it is well lighted and there are people here playing basketball, walking, and playing late into the night! Olive Grove Park is a small, friendly neighborhood park featuring play structures, basketball courts, and a baseball field. The park offers a big grassy area with beautiful olive trees, making it an ideal spot for picnics. Visitors can enjoy the shade provided by the trees even in the early afternoon during spring. However, some visitors have noted that the playground may need upgrading to match those in other parks in the city. Beautiful Park, nice walkway around the pond, Veterans of Foreign War Memorial onsite. Pond has lots of birds, ducks, and turtles sunning themselves on rocks in the pond. Grassy knolls and areas, great for dropping a blanket and enjoying a picnic, loads of colorful flowers, and benches located along the walkway around the lake. The park is very well maintained, easy walk around the pond.

This is a small, tucked-away pond with a pleasant walking path around it. Despite its size, the area is rich in bird life—great for nature watching. There's no designated parking, so you’ll need to park along one of the nearby business lots. We visited early in the morning when it was quiet, but it’s unclear whether parking is allowed during business hours—there might be a risk of getting towed. Still, it’s a peaceful little spot worth a visit if you're in the area.

This is a little hidden park which if you don't know it's there you might have a hard time finding it. It is nestled in the middle of a business complex and also right next to the freeway, so it is not the quietest park in the county. There are also lots of ducks and other birds that enjoy hanging out at the pond. It's probably not a good idea to feed them, especially if you bring along something like white bread that is nutritionally deficient. There are also nice walkways around the park, and plenty of parking.

Great little park. This park hosts several Rancho Bernard community events throughout the year. Ducks, birds and turtles a-plenty. Nice to walk around the pond. There is an island in the middle of the pond where the ducks hang out. Unfortunately the pond has decades of duck poo build up in and around it, so it can have a bit of a smell some times. There are signs that say no feeding the ducks.

Great hidden park in Grant Hill, less crowded than Chicano Park nearby and has a beautiful almost 360 view of San Diego. Good place to watch the sunset, have a picnic. There are signs to keep your dog on a leash so don't be a jerk and let your dog run loose while people are relaxing watching the view.

The views from this park are quite impressive. Commanding views of Coronado Island, San Diego Bay, south towards Mexico and downtown. Big Eucalyptus trees provide shade, but the bathrooms aren't open..it has a gross outhouse and has numerous homeless types sleeping in the grass. Also has a playground and basketball court.

I've been living in the San Diego area for the past 17 years but this is my first time going here. Besides the smog it has a nice 180° view of downtown SD and Coronado Bridge. 🫰😎

One of my favorite parks! I love this park because you can see the downtown and bay skylines. The mornings are peaceful. It is a nice little hill to relax and enjoy the view. The short way up the hill is a nice mini cardio challenge. On fourth of July, it was nice to see fireworks. Visitors seem respectful and the park is clean. I have not seen the bathroom. Dog owners usually clean up after their dogs.

Very peaceful and lots of shade. Anytime I'm in the San Diego area, I make a stop here and relax under a tree with my blanket, reading book, laptop, and Bluetooth speaker for a couple of hours.
Tony R — Google review
A surprising gem near the heart of downtown San Diego. It's size is tiny but the view is HUGE! If you catch it on a quiet evening it'd be a good date spot in my opinion. There is a little playground for those with young children as well. As for parking.. not so much. It really is just a little neighborhood park so it's curbside as you find it parking.
Ben G — Google review
Nice park to enjoy downtown views. Since the park is uphill, walk to this park to get a nice workout. People with dogs are good, they are always on leashes. There are some homeless peeps, but they keep to themselves.

There are portapotties buuut would recommend going elsewhere based on the smell. Aside from that very lovely park with excellent view of the bar and Coronado bridge. Lovely for sunset though currently the sun is setting behind skyscrapers. Half a year from now or 3/4 (now being September) perhaps it will set more to the left.

Dog park
Park
Little Italy Dog Park is a fantastic spot for both locals and visitors to San Diego. The park features K9Grass, an art gallery, shade structures, and a water fountain for dogs. It's conveniently located near downtown San Diego and is open every day from sunrise to sunset. The park is popular among local pet owners and offers a great space for dogs to play freely. Additionally, it's close to the ramp from I5, making it easily accessible for those driving in.
Incredible dog park. It’s nice, open, and the dogs were all well behaved. The owners were so friendly too! Lots of seating and a coffee shop on site.
Audrey O — Google review
Very nice park, has plenty of rooms for smalls to medium size dogs. If your dogs is a runner i would recommend another dog park with more running space. Also, the dog urine stench was very strong. They definitely need to do maintenance and some clorox to give the areas where you sit a washing. Totally understand it's a dog park and dogs are going to pee, but it needs a little TLC.
Eddie C — Google review
We started going to the Little Italy Dog Park about 5 months ago and now it's the only park we frequent. It's a smaller dog Park but the folks that are regulars here are very nice and are, for the most part, responsible and clean up after their fur buddies. Almost every dog that is brought here is mild mannered and well behaved. As a matter of fact I've only witnessed any kind of dog aggression once or twice in the entire time that I've been coming here. Kodi, our Shiba Inu loves it and has made quite a few friends here, canine and otherwise 😉 The only drawback about this dog park is the parking. Somedays it's kind of difficult, but Not impossible, to find a parking spot. Wednesdays and Saturdays are especially tricky since they have a Farmer's Market on those two days Overall we've had a very positive experience at this smaller but very nice dog park.
Mo R — Google review
The go-to spot for me and my pups - Mostly turf, which means less mud and fewer post-park baths, plus a steady mix of friendly dogs and (mostly) friendly humans. Always a good vibe, and easily my favorite park in the area.
Timmy F — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place to bring you K9 friend to run around and socialize, the dog owners seem to be very friendly, and the dogs are friendly as well. The city keeps this park very very clean, and there’s plenty of dog dropping bags for owners to use as well as a wonderful little coffee shop for the owners, while their dogs playing to have a delicious cup of coffee and pastry .
Richie A — Google review
This is my dog's favorite park. Mostly because it is artificial turf instead of dirt, but also because the dogs seem to really pack and play well here. The dog owners are usually attentive, which is a plus. Saturdays can be a little distracting because of the Farmers Market.
Chris M — Google review
Great dog park! It has beautiful gates, plenty of space to run in the “big dog” section, lots of tennis balls and water bowls, adequate seating and some shade. There’s a separate “small dog” section that is very small. The park is mostly turf with a tiny dirt section at the very end. Open late first Monday of the month for cleaning.
Valerie S — Google review
Probably the saddest dog park I've ever seen. I walked my dog there only to find a very small little gated in area lined with AstroTurf. There was only one other dog there that was being very aggressive towards my dog and the owner did nothing about it so we left. Walking my dog around the block is better than this place.

Summer camp organizer
YMCA Krause Family Skate & Bike Park is a community-focused nonprofit that has been providing recreational programs and services for all ages since 1844. The park offers a variety of activities for kids, including skateboarding, scootering, and BMX biking. Visitors have praised the helpful staff and the positive atmosphere at the park, making it a great place for children to spend time.
My son is 4 and takes skate lessons here. The staff are amazing and his skating coach Alex is the best! The older kids that skate there on a regular basis are very kind and encouraging to other kids just learning. This has been the best experience and we will be regulars !!
Marlayna R — Google review
Amazing experience! The facilities are awesome and the staff even more so. The community of skaters/bikers/scooterers are terrific too. Everyone is polite and friendly. I have a 10 & 12 year old and even purchased the memberships on our second visit. It’s well worth it. If you’re already a YMCA member, you get a discount. I wish it was open earlier in the day, but all the campers are here then, so I get it. They sell drinks & snacks & even offer complimentary knee pads if you forgot yours. Plenty of room for parents to sit and watch. I think we found our new favorite hangout.

This place is fantastic for anybody from beginners to experts. There are so many parts of the skatepark to learn and watch and enjoy. There is also good spots to watch from if you're not doing the skating / scootering / biking. Also the people that work there are super friendly and available to answer any questions you may have. It's not free but it is inexpensive and in my opinion, the price is very much worth it!

I really love this skate scooter and bike facility. The staff are amazing and very good with the kids. My concern is that the bathrooms have been out of order for two days as they need the company to empty the tanks. This causes all sorts of issues. Please get the facility operations managed well. They are Having to walk kids off site to go to the restroom.

Neighborhood park featuring baseball/softball fields, a basketball court & shaded play areas.
Views West Park is our go to choice for my son’s birthday party. We reserved this parked twice already and it’s perfect. There’s a flat area for a bounce house, a volleyball court, really good size gazebo, big grill, more grills, plenty of tables, chairs and the best part covered playground. The park is secluded and easy parking. There’s also a football field and nearby restrooms. This park will always will be close to our hearts.

Cute little neighborhood park, love all of the shade it has. We usually come on Fridays around 4:30pm & it's always clean and quiet. Would be better if it had a swing set, but other than that, it's a nice park for kids.

A beautiful park that has grass, a playground and covered picnic tables. There is also a restroom available. Not far from the freeway, it's a great spot to let the kids run around and get their energy out of em. Perfect for parties. Baseball fields, tennis courts, open fields, playgrounds (one with sand pit, the other with wood chips)horse shoes, a long walking trail/ sidewalk surrounding it all. Recreational center with basketball ball courts, and setups for volleyball and pickle ball. Outdoor basketball courts as well. Parking lot can get crowded. Parts of the park need maintenance. Nice overall.

My toddler loves this park. There's a bigger kid park and a separate toddler park. The swings are mostly for babies with a set of 2, seating areas surround both playgrounds, plenty of natural shade from all the trees. It's a great park. There are also tennis and I believe basketball courts. Nice grassy areas to lay and read a book on a blanket as well.

Historical place

Located in the city's historic downtown district, Heritage County Park features a number of restored Victorian homes and the city's first synagogue. The park also includes a variety of trees, gardens, and recreation facilities.
I visit every time I return to Old Town San Diego. The homes & synagogue are beautifully restored. I love that they are now restoring the interiors, and we will be able to stay in them someday like a vacation rental. Parking tip: There's a parking lot just for Heritage Park behind the first home at the bottom of the hill, so you don't have to park way over in Old Town parking.
Michelle J — Google review
What a special place showcasing a selection of Victorian homes and their history. This park can be overlooked as the old town gets a lot of attention as the main attraction. This park is a few blocks from the old town and also free to enter. I do wish all the houses were available for tours to provide a glimpse of the interior. Only the temple and the front cottage were available for a look inside. There are clean restrooms for visitors behind the cottage. At the back of the park, there’s a tea room, which could be fun to experience next time.
Sueki L — Google review
Such beautiful houses, there is no fee, the only place you can enter is at the church but the houses are closed only for pictures, it's worth it.👌
Alex L — Google review
Heritage County Park is a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into San Diego’s Victorian past, making it a must-visit for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a peaceful escape from the city. Nestled near Old Town San Diego, this historic park is home to a stunning collection of restored Victorian-era homes, each with its own unique story. The park was established in 1970 as part of a major preservation effort to save these architectural treasures from demolition. San Diego’s rapid expansion in the 1960s and 70s put many of these grand homes at risk, and rather than losing them to redevelopment, they were carefully relocated to Heritage County Park to create a living museum of San Diego’s late 19th-century history. Each home was painstakingly restored to its original grandeur, complete with period-appropriate details, intricate woodwork, and vibrant colors that bring the Victorian era back to life. Some of the most famous structures in the park include: The Christian House (1889) – An elegant Queen Anne-style home originally built in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood. The Bushyhead House (1887) – Named after Edward Wilkerson Bushyhead, a Cherokee journalist and former sheriff of San Diego. The Burton House (1893) – A beautiful two-story home with a unique curved porch and ornate woodwork. The Sherman-Gilbert House (1887) – One of the most striking homes in the park, famous for once hosting world-renowned opera singer Madame Ernestine Schumann-Heink. Temple Beth Israel (1889) – San Diego’s first synagogue, which now serves as a historic landmark and community event space. The park is free to visit, and while most of the homes are not open for tours, the exteriors alone are worth the trip. Walking along the quiet, tree-lined paths, you feel transported back to a time when San Diego was just beginning to grow into the city it is today. The park is beautifully maintained, with picnic areas and plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view of these elegant Victorian masterpieces. Heritage County Park is a true testament to San Diego’s commitment to preserving its past, and it’s the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, snap some gorgeous photos, and appreciate the city’s history. Whether you’re visiting Old Town or just looking for a peaceful place to explore, this park is a must-see for anyone who loves history, architecture, or simply a quiet moment in a beautiful setting.
Kytka — Google review
Incredibly beautiful set of Victorian homes here. All the homes were actually moved from locations near downtown and Balboa park decades ago and preserved at this park. You can enter the Church and also some of the homes. The one at the back, the Coral Tree Tea House, is a literal tea house where you can get small confections and tea like a Victorian. There's a parking lot here with a good amount of spots. On a Friday morning there were barely any people here. It's also free.
Eric Y — Google review

Amusement park ride
Balboa Park Miniature Railroad is a charming amusement park located in San Diego, California, adjacent to the entrance of the San Diego Zoo. The park covers four acres and offers a delightful half-mile train ride for children on an open-air antique train that takes about 3 minutes to complete. Adults are required to accompany kids on this nostalgic journey through the park.
Located in Balboa Park between the San Diego Zoo and the Balboa Park Carousel, this miniature train ride is a kid’s dream come true. My grandson was so excited when he walked up and saw what we were going to ride. Kids five and under must have an adult riding with them. Tickets are $4 each person for one ride as of April 12, 2024. The ride lasts 3-4 minutes. There are some animal statues, flowers and plants, and a tunnel to enjoy along the track. Parking is available in the small lot near the train or the zoo parking lot.
Tara W — Google review
What a fun train ride for all ages. The train goes on a 5 minute excursion around the park and at a cheap price. Fun ride for any train lover.
Joaquin M — Google review
It is a short maybe 3-4 train ride that your toddlers will love. It only costs $4.00 per person which is a small price to pay for the joy on you littles face. We paid to around twice. The staff is friendly and the location is great. (The zoo and Balboa Park are right there)
Renae N — Google review
We had a group of cousins meet here after a day at the zoo. It was a perfect transition for the kids ages (1-9). The parking is free and the train can fit quite a few people sitting two by two. It's a short ride with a cool tunnel to go through.
Autumn T — Google review
Good for the kids. $4 a head with some light displays during the holidays plus a psychedelic Wonka tunnel at the end, just about when most of the adults start reflecting on how they ended up on a miniature diesel train with two kids and grandpa plus a rucksack full of wipes and spare diapers. Staff super nice. No real wait when we went on a Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
Martin C — Google review
Can’t complain at the price of just $4.50 per person but the grounds are run down. Did the ride for novelty sake.
Postcard T — Google review
Meh… $4.50 per person for a less than five minute ride. Required to pay for anyone over age one, but also if they are under age five they have to have an adult over 18 with them (also requiring a ticket). Feels a little redundant/silly. But whatever. The ride was nothing special — lots of dying and unkempt landscape to look at if you are into that. A handful of animal statues, but otherwise not much to look at. Employees were not overly friendly or helpful. The kids had an okay time but this is certainly one to skip if you’re on the fence!

46Tijuana River Valley Regional Park

Park
The Tijuana River Valley Regional Park is a 1,800 acre park that has a bird and butterfly garden and sports fields. It is also close to San Diego and runs by the County of San Diego's Parks and Recreation Department.
Nice park right on the border between the US and Mexico. It's incredible to see the wall between the countries and how the city of Tijuana is built right next to it, whereas San Diego is quite a bit further north. If you want to see the border from relatively up close, when driving keep heading towards the wall as you approach this park, there's other trails where you can take clearer pictures after the water treatment facility and the winding road.

We felt safe hiking up the hill near the border here. Well maintained trail, but maps could be improved. Great views of ocean and south bay. - there is still flooding in lower area so we didnt explore trails in the valley
Cynthia D — Google review
Beautiful campground, everything looks pretty new, restrooms were clean, campsite were spacious, almost semi private with some plants and space dividing each campsite. There is also a fun playground for the kids made all from wood and ropes, my kids loved it. We felt save, park rangers are always there circling around. But there were many many many sand flies, we came back home with at least 50 bites so make sure to take a good brand of repellent because the brand I took didn't do much. We reserved for 2 nights but only spent 1 night, and came back home, the sand flies and the heat were too much for us. Also the water from the shower is too hot, there were only 1 temperature set which was really hot. There's a beach close to the campground but I think it's not safe for swimming because the water quality is not good. I don't think I will come back to this campground. Even though it's a beautiful and very clean campground, the sand flies kills the moment

This is a great place to camp. Clean, quiet, super helpful/respectful staff. The weather can be extreme. Be prepared. The firewood is a great deal at $5 a bundle. Hike 1 mile West you'll hit the ocean. No condos 7-11 Starbucks. Just OCEAN 🌊 BE SURE TO CHECK THE WATER QUALITY! No swim days are frequent. Thanks for the sewage Mexico! $$ at $24 a night this place is a bargain.

What a magnificent campsite! I had just arrived to the West Coast after a super fast motor on I-8 from Arizona > I-5 South (excellent roads that were still just as good now as when I had last driven them in the late 1970s, when homeported at the 32nd street naval station ). Fortunately, I called to learn that I had until (20:00) to check in—the office is closed afterwards—and received precise/perfect directions: I-5 South to Dairymart exit, continue West on this increasingly rural route, which becomes Monument Road. At the terminus (Border Field Stare Park), I had missed the neon “open” sign in the office, but still had 10 minutes before closing. Good enough! After getting checked in, I found my assigned site, laid my sleep roll under the rear-hitch mounted/my eBikeKit-assisted CruzBike and thoroughly enjoyed a very decent night of rest in this newest of San Diego County parks (open since April2021). Pre-dawn was truly exquisite; the new facilities were, as expected, extremely clean & sanitary, but perhaps more important was the lack of congestion. Bring a new campground, the fire rings are suitably distanced from the next regarding tenting/RVs/horses/yerts. There is an interpretive zone, perfect for youth who can bend/flex/move, which is another way to say it was a bit of an obstacle course for “aged out” me; still enjoyable regardless. The trails (I barely Gimpwalked one) are great and weave through this complex intermixing of nature/flora/fauna & Humans. San Diego County has demonstrated that there can be co-existence without the inherent elimination of species within confined spaces. I highly recommend this fantastic campsite, which, even if full, would still be wonderful because it is regulated by super San Diego County. It certainly has my coveted “iWheel of Approval!”

Such a beautiful place to come one of my favorites with plenty of trails to walk and hidden areas. Most trails are clearly marked. Came multiple times and still haven't walked all trails. Some benches to sit and relax, trash cans at the parking area and near the butterfly garden they will have maps of the trail systems. Annoying little flies bug spray works almost all the time.
Porsche G — Google review
I truly like these trails. Good for walking, jogging, cycling or just exploring. Some trails are somewhat hidden and if ur adventures and like to go out of your comfort zone you'll enjoy the hidden treasures. I always take water and Fruit, also some trails might be closed for maintenance or because of flooding. Anyways I enjoy every single time I come here.

Gallagher Square, located within Petco Park, is a vibrant hub of entertainment in San Diego. It features the Sycuan Stage, hosting a variety of events including music festivals like Proper NYE/NYD. Nearby, Quartyard offers an innovative space made from repurposed shipping containers where visitors can enjoy live music, a craft beer garden, and public art.
Gallagher square had a major renovation last year and it’s turned into and amazing place to watch San Diego Padres baseball games, on Friday night games the place is lit up with city connect colors Pink, yellow and lime green. The place looks incredible. It’s also host music venues for everyone to enjoy incredible music talent. What my dog Charlie loves is the off leach park where he can run and play with other pets. Let’s not forget the awesome playground designed with baseball theme for the small children to play.

Decent venue for a concert. Lots of SRO and lawn seats. Get there early for a bench or deck spot. Food and beverage selections are limited and prices outrageous…but, you are captive so be prepared. Can chill down in the evening.
C L — Google review
I had never been to this venue for a concert. It has a massive outdoor courtyard for walking and gathering. Plenty of fake grass hills to sit and hang out. Being surrounded by all the tall buildings for a night concert was really neat. The vibe was indescribable as anyone living in the highrise buildings overlooking Gallagher Square seemed all about the concerts they would be seeing from their balconies. It really was a vive. The food options for the venue seemed a bit lacking, but that's hardly a negative as most places don't offer full service or meal options. Usually snack type concessions. They also kept merch tables off to the left and away from the gathering area. It really is a massive space! Hard to put it in words until you go to a concert and really feel and see for yourself. We never had any issues with staff as we knew the rules and abided by them. This allowed us to have a great night w/o distractions. The Midnight was stellar in concert! I wanna go back just for the nightlife vibe that was fully contagious.
Drew — Google review
Nice concert experience as long as you get the right seat. Standing for hours is also an option. No sealed water bottles or outside food allowed for concerts.
Lei R — Google review
Worst outdoor venue ever!!! If you haven't been there for a concert, get there early. Try to get your spot high as you can. If you are not high up on the grass, don't plan on being able to see the performers. The big screens on either side of the stage are partly blocked by the metal canopy supports. The concert I went to was sold out. We were early, but not early enough to be high up. We were on the grass , but unfortunately at the bottom of the slope. The pathway to go to the restroom or grab a drink was right in front of us. That was fine until all the rude "Johnny come lately " people would pack up the pathway until there wasn't one. So sitting in our spot was no longer an option (see pics). I've stood for entire concert before, but when rude people come and stand 2 feet in front of you, it sucks. Can you say " Fire Hazard "? Over sold is more like it. They should have roped off the pathways instead of over selling tickets. Very unsafe incase of a need to evacuate. First and last time we will spend good money to not fully enjoy a concert here.
Tricky T — Google review
Every concert here has been an absolute waste of money. Round 1, I thought it was the mixing and tech/sound crew, but round 2 was just as bad. The entire center was a dead zone and completely stripped the vocal for both stage left and right. For a venue that cost so much to the patrons and the artist, you would think the owner/manager could afford more than just corner suspension speakers to actually deliver the sound. If you're thinking about seeing a concert here DON'T. Save your money and go to literally any other venue(SOMA, music box, etc.) At least their sound and mixing crews seem to know how to setup a concert venue.
Chris C — Google review
Second time I've come to this venue to see a concert and the second time WE COULDN'T HEAR THE SINGERS!!!!! The whole crowd was screaming "we can't hear you" and the lead singer had to turn his own mic up and we couldn't hear the screamer. This is unacceptable, we pay money to see and enjoy these bands and no one can hear them, it blows!!! Was really hoping the first time was a fluke but they have GOT to get better speakers or a new sound guy!

Teddy Swims concert. Music great. Venue not. No organizational management in separating tiers 1-4, yet tickets were priced accordingly. No attendants for direction. Free for all seating (standing) that ultimately ended in such an oversold crowd you had to squirm your way to get to restrooms or food. If there had been a need for evacuation. Oh Lordy loo.

Looks great after so many years ! Thank you to parks and recreation for your amazing work!!
Tikki — Google review
Has become a seemingly homeless friendly spot, with the canyon and surrounding trees providing cover and shade. The seemingly always open public bathrooms are a big draw for the homeless as well.
Rob L — Google review
It is an ok little park. There was a very strange vibe and it was virtually empty on a Saturday afternoon. We quickly realized that the only people there were a group of homeless folks that had taken up residence. One individual had an unleashed dog, that was mostly ok because it was friendly but another person was mentally ill, aggressive, and foul mouthed. The bathrooms were open which was pretty nice.

Great park friendly area

Great little park ... BUT, the police can't help the locals due to lack of caring about the community
Korkie M — Google review
I love this little park. It's quiet and secluded. Also it has access to tecalote. Watch out for the poison oak!!!
Isaiah M — Google review
The public restrooms were horrible. Im not sure but homeless might be living nearby using this facility
Jim P — Google review
Nice Park but for the homeless people in it.

I went to this tennis center and it was very nice place, 4 tennis courts and free lessons! I encourage people to came mor often👌🏾 Nice to see kids, adults and young people playing at this park. This is more for kids/beginners i would say maybe Im wrong but its perfect to not feel intimidated by the skill level!

Great park to spend quality time with family & friends! I have so many memories here! Festivals (here & then) & even theatrical plays (in the past & once in a while) have been done here. This is also a miniature skate park, people especially skaters tend to skate here. This park is in the Hub of City Heights. It’s also in the middle of all the good stuff, the public pool, the Rosa Parks elementary soccer fields & the City Heights Weingart Library. Great place!!
Fernando J — Google review
Peaceful but underwhelming. The memorial is touching, but the playground is small and the restrooms are dirty. Lacks shade and seating, making it hard to enjoy for long. With better upkeep, it could be a much more welcoming community space.
Angel A — Google review
They had a Art at The Park going on! Music and good energy... Park isn't super clean as there is high Adult traffic..... But enough to play for a few. The restroom was open also I'm assuming for the event.
Deja M — Google review
Fine park in guess burr always filled with transients and people that look shady (age drinking, smoking, cursing). I wouldn't bring my children to this park and wouldn't spend time in this park other than walking through.
Lenore B — Google review
We attended a GOSPEL LOW RIDER CAR SHOW the EVENT was a success .we were greated by a lot of California's warm welcome Christians. Great event.
Gloria R — Google review
Great public space, clean and tidy.

Park
Most definitely my favorite sunset spot
Mihaela K — Google review
This was a cute little spot to stop and grab some photos of San Diego. There's nothing really special about it unless you want to see this view. There's some nice little flowers and things, super small and limited street parking.
Alysha V — Google review
Nice neighborhood park with good view of Del Mar Fairgrounds, wetland, and ocean.
Teadrinker — Google review
My first time checking out this park. ~Great grass and view!! Definitely go here for the view. ~Only one tree and it’s on the side, so not a good place to go if it is sunny and hot unless you’re only passing through.
Liz M — Google review
Nice view, not crowded, no plauground
Pola K — Google review
Nice stop for a view and stroll
Min C — Google review
FYI: no parking, this isn't a bad park per se but it's basically just a strip of green with a view, it's not really worth driving here.

Relaxing overlook that isn't usually that busy
