Munising Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Munising Falls is a popular attraction at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, featuring a 50-foot waterfall cascading over a sandstone cliff. The paved trail leading to the falls offers easy access and is suitable for all visitors. There are viewing platforms along the way that provide different perspectives of the falls. In winter, the area transforms with beautiful ice formations, creating a unique experience for visitors.
Not only is it a pretty waterfall in a very picturesque setting that is worth a visit in any season. But it also happens to be one of the easiest ones to access during the winter months. Finally made it to the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore during a winter of significant snowfall and was really taken aback by the snow depth. This winter it is a snow lovers paradise and haven to Lake Superior ice fishers for sure. As well as cross country skiers, or snow shoe enthusiasts and not to mention the ice climbers. If you love winter this would be the place for you.

Really can't rate this. We took the time to go, only to discover the trail to the falls was damaged and we could not go. I did like that it said no pets allowed on the other trail. It gets old dodging dog poop that people are too irresponsible to clean up.
BL W — Google review
There's a very short walk to the falls and there are multiple viewing platforms. There is a large parking lot here and there is a building with restrooms. The visitor's center is just a trailer with a window for now as it is a temp building while they are preparing a permanent one. The rangers are friendly and you can stamp your national parks passport book here. If you don't have a pass for Pictured Rocks, this should be your first stop in the park.
Thirteendays — Google review
Located in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park, this waterfall is easily accessible via the trail from the visitor center. The 800 ft trail will take you to a juncture where you can view the waterfall on the lower by a boardwalk or take the stairs to view the upper part of the falls. There is a large parking lot by the visitor center. Keep in mind this is part of the National Park System and you will need to purchase a park pass.
Richard G — Google review
Short walk to a very nice waterfall! There is stairs leading to an upper deck and then a lower deck aswell. There was a small crowd of people there even though it was raining. I definitely recommend giving this place a stop!
Anna B — Google review
This is a short hike that is wheelchair accessible to the lower viewpoint. This was such a nice walk. It is about 800 feet from the visitor center. You can take a trail off the right that goes to an upper viewpoint. It does get crowded on the main part of the trail.
Donna S — Google review
Awesome waterfall! And it's right at the visitor center. There's not many waterfalls that are this short of a walk and flat and paved the whole way. Especially being that it's less than 1/4 mile and was still flowing at the end of the summer.
Brandon D — Google review
It’s a short hike to see the falls. The upper trail has steps but it’s got a great view. This is a federal park so it requires a national park pass. Our veterans were free.

Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center

Museum
History Museums
The Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center, located in downtown Munising, is a historical building that serves as an indoor museum offering insights into the community's past and the industries that have shaped the area. Operated through an interagency cooperative between the National Park Service and the Forest Service, it provides extensive information on public lands in the region. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided tour of various exhibits and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Nice free where you can learn about local history, environment, Native Americans and geology of the area. Huge gift shop as well. Very convenient to visit before or after your boat tour.
JitkaKac — Google review
Nice little center telling the history of the town as well as information in pictured rocks. It has gift store attached to it and is a good place to visit if you are waiting on a boat tour.
Jeremy D — Google review
This would have been a neat experience in an historic building, but all of the actual displays are blocked by boxes of merchandise. It's a glorified gift shop.
Jessi P — Google review
There's a little gift shop and also a little movie theater in the back where the original owner gave you pictured rocks and how it became a national shoreline. Extremely interesting. It's off the parking lot where you can take the pictured rocks tour. And the water
Tina S — Google review
They decided not to be an interpretive center anymore. They are yet another touristy gift shop. They are so committed to not being an interpretive center they stacked tee shirt boxes in front of the displays.... Needless to say it's not a fun educational experience for families, but if you want to get yelled at for your children breathing too loud, this might be the place for you.
Marcy K — Google review
This is mostly a gift shop. But there is an informative short movie and a nice display giving the history of the area.
Cecily B — Google review
It's really just a gift shop. There is a video to watch, but tha is all. They do have some interesting items though.
Stephanie V — Google review
A worthwhile quick stop while checking out town. The interpretive center in early August has no aforementioned inventory stacked in front of displays - the space was clean and filled with historical displays and our favorite - the rocks! Gift shop had a variety of local products, cute shirts/hoodies, ornaments, and jewelry. I bought a Yooperlite and it was a little overpriced compared to the outdoors/sportsmans store around the corner where I got 2 for the same price. Overall, I’d recommend stopping by!

Brewpub
Located in Munising, East Channel Brewing Company is a popular craft brewery that has become a pride of the town. The brewery offers a variety of hand-crafted beers and ciders, attracting beer enthusiasts with its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy locally brewed beers in the small-town welcoming vibe taproom or gather with friends and family in the beer garden, which provides ample seating and a laid-back ambiance.
Cool small town brewery. We tried a couple different beers. I liked the Hobo Nectar Lager the best. $5 a beer! You can order pizza next door.
R M — Google review
Vibes at this local brewery. Rustic and quaint. The beer was very good, lager was excellent. All beers were $5.00 very fair priced pints. Check them out next time you’re in town, I highly recommend East Channel Brewing Company
Anne R — Google review
My oh my What a gem of a place! We stopped in for a couple of beer and he’ll in love with the place. Went back the next evening after a long hike and it was even better . Parking is roadside. Nonissue. Order at the bar and bring your drinks to your table . Pizza is a food truck and it’s pretty legit. The vibe is the best. We happened in on music night where this amazing local band played. I wanna be a Yupper now.
Lori G — Google review
We had a great time at this brewery! It was a hot sunny day and this was one of the only places in town that had air conditioning and it felt amaaaazing. For being a girl who doesn’t like beer, the bartender (with pink hair) helped me find a beer I actually enjoyed (I ended up drinking three!) It was a raspberry lager made in house and it was delicious.
Emilee P — Google review
Super friendly service! Atmosphere is just meh…. I liked the blueberry lager the best and only $5. Also sampled the blood orange hefe (a bit too tart for me) and Raspberry Lager. Pizza next door is good and they have unique flavors, most around $13 for paper plate size - cash only).
Lisa H — Google review
Was ok. Nothing wrong or special. We went there on a hot day and got a couple of stouts. Usually there is allot of flavor but these did not.
TraciAnn K — Google review
Awesome beer selection at super reasonable prices. Staff are polite, helpful and friendly. Out of all the times we have been through the area, I'm sad this is only the first time for me. Will definitely be back in the future
Alyse J — Google review
Came in for dinner. Most pints $5 and both myself and husband were pleased with our blueberry lager and IPA. Wood-fired pizzas from Carberry's next door hit the spot. Try the blueberry- it's unique and delicious. Best meal and drinks we had in Munising.

Glass Bottom Shipwreck Tours, Munising

Mentioned on
4 lists
Glass Bottom Shipwreck Tours in Munising provides a unique experience for visitors to explore the shipwrecks of Lake Superior. With three cruise options, guests can witness historic shipwrecks like the Herman H. Hettler and the East Channel Lighthouse while admiring the sights of Grand Island. The 2-hour tour offers a glimpse into American shipping history, showcasing a fully intact wooden sailing ship from before the Civil War and two different shipwreck sites.
Wonderful tour! An absolute MUST SEE/DO when you are in the area! Captain and crew are very knowledgeable, funny and give great info throughout the whole tour! It's incredible how close to the shipwrecks they are taking you. This was my second time going on this tour to show my kids. And I was just as amazed!
Melanie R — Google review
Very friendly staff, amazing view of a shipwreck, gorgeous scenery & wildlife. Our tour was cut in 1/2 due to windy conditions but we still felt like we saw all the stuff we were hoping to see and the tour company refunded us 1/2 the ticket price which I thought was amazing! Definitely recommend.
Rachel C — Google review
It's a two hour boat trip and we got to see three shipwrecks, though I went on this when I was younger and saw more. I do believe it just depends on what shipwrecks are available due to lake superior changing, or something like that. There were a few things you got to see other then the ship wrecks and that was the caves and coves, a gravel mine outcove, a pair of eagles in their nest, and a few lighthouses. The caption, she was very informative. Spoke a lot about the Grand Island and the area around (their history), spoke of other ship wrecks, and how some light houses work. Its a family run business and the entire crew is great, super friendly! They are very informative and funny. If you have questions you can ask, some other people did. Not me-social anxiety ✌️ If you think you might get sea sick this might not be the best for you considering you have to look down in these compartments to see the shipwrecks and sea sick + looking down is a no go. They probably dont want to clean up your lunch off the viewing glass. There are two levels, the upper level that is uncovered and the lower level, cocered, where the compartments are. Both are nice and clean. Snacks and drinks are available for a price, nothing is free these days folks. Except the bathrooms. Those were clean and free. :) I'd probably go again in a few years so i do recommend it!

My boyfriend and I took my son on a tour for his birthday! The day was literally perfect!! It was so nice out.. we loved the captain and narrator. Some pics we took and scout got 😂
Samm S — Google review
This was the best! A lot of seating, snacks and sodas for purchase on the boat. The skipper was skilled and got us great views over the wrecks. Viewing was organized as each level took turns! Imagine that! Lol ~ there were also beautiful views of some of the lesser pictured rocks and knowledgeable narration. Dress in layers!!!

Fun Experience on the Glass Bottom Shipwreck tour. The tour was not just any regular Boat tour, the tour guides are very interactive and hilarious with providing information to customers. I highly recommend going on. Especially when there is a little windy weather that makes the experience of the boat ride fun.
Jeremiah V — Google review
My husband and I went on the tour in late September. During the tour you stop at two shipwrecks; the first of which is the intact Bermuda. The glass bottom boat was about 6 ft above the tallest point on the Bermuda so you get up close and personal. Captain Kate gave us a smooth ride and we got a detailed back story of each of the sites. In addition to the wrecks, they took us close to Grand Island to look at the scenery, waterfalls, and some bald eagles.
Skye G — Google review
A Must-Do in Munising! The Glass Bottom Shipwreck Tour was hands down one of the highlights of our trip to the Upper Peninsula! From start to finish, the experience was both fascinating and beautifully executed. The crew was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing the maritime history of Lake Superior. We got an up-close view of two incredible shipwrecks, both resting peacefully beneath the crystal-clear water. The first was a wooden schooner still remarkably intact—you could clearly see the deck, ribs, and even parts of the mast through the glass viewing wells. The second wreck was larger and even more dramatic, with twisted metal and wooden beams sprawled across the lakebed. The clarity of the water made it feel like we were floating right above history. One of the unexpected highlights was cruising past the abandoned East Channel Lighthouse on Grand Island. It looked like something straight out of a movie—rustic, weathered, and perched hauntingly on the shoreline. The guide shared stories about its history and the role it played in guiding ships through these treacherous waters. It added so much atmosphere to the trip. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a cool, unique way to experience Lake Superior, this tour is 100% worth it. Great for families, couples, or solo travelers.

Pictured Rocks Cruises, LLC.

Mentioned on
4 lists
Pictured Rocks Cruises, LLC is the go-to choice for exploring the stunning 40-mile shoreline of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan. As an authorized concessionaire of the National Park Service, they offer three distinct boat tours: the Classic Cruise, Spray Falls Cruise, and Sunset Cruise.
I've never done such a beautiful experience before and I really recommend it to everyone!! I took the 11 o'clock classic tour and it lasted for about 2 hours; the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and I really appreciated they gave us the perfect amount of time to take beautiful pics!! If you plan to seat upstairs bring with you a winter jacket, a hat and gloves, cause it will become very windy and chill as soon as the boat starts speeding. Last, the gift shop is full of all the types of souvenir you wish to bring back home!! I really loved this unique experience!!
Giada F — Google review
The boat ride was 2 hours. The captain was great at pointing out the sites and making sure both sides of the boat could see them. Very organized when loading and unloading passengers. Comfortable seating area while waiting for the boat. Great gift shop. You can buy tickets in advance, but if the waves are too high the boat can't go out.
William B — Google review
My husband and I went on the sunset pictured rocks cruise on a hot day at the end of September and it was incredible! The ride was incredibly smooth and the sights were amazing. The captain made sure to pause at iconic sites and give time for both sides of the ship to take pictures. Despite the heat, once the ship was going, it was downright chilly! So be sure to bring a jacket. I also recommend glasses/sunglasses to prevent your eyes from getting so dry. Before boarding, you have to wait in a long line on land, but get there EARLY! Like an hour early if you want a good spot. (I do recommend wearing sunscreen during the wait). Fortunately they provide comfortable chairs for the wait. After you’re done, be sure to explore the large gift store!
Skye G — Google review
I would recommend going at least 40 minutes before departure so that you get those top seats. We went 25 mins early and still didn't get a chance to sit on top. They have water and chips on board, you can only stand at the lower level but yes it is a really nice spot to capture some great pictures. The trip's worth the money. Make sure to buy a hat and don't forget your sun screen 😁. Try going on a drive to Tahquamenon falls from this place. The fall colors are amazing at this time. Note: I went on a weekend so wait times might differ. Try selecting the spray falls cruise.
Revanth Y — Google review
This is a great little tour. The sights are spectacular. And they get you up real close for a good view. The tour guide is humorous, and keeps it interesting. There is a bathroom available, tho tour itself only took a couple hours. They do have chips and soda on board if you need it. They do slow down for some good pictures. The view from the inside of the ship is good, but it is harder to get good photos with the reflection on the windows. There are windows that open and you can go out the back of the boat for pictures. I would definitely go again.
Sid Z — Google review
On vacation in the area and very glad we took the time to go on this scenic cruise. Some of the most unique landscapes / shore line you'll probably see in your lifetime. Bring a light coat if you get a chill easy due to the water temp / cool lake breeze. Friendly staff gave narration on the big lake and local folklore. A definite must see !
DaBoo 7 — Google review
This cruise is about 2.5 hours. It's pretty and there are some neat rock formations. At start, you likely want to sit on the far right to get the best puctures. We did a cruise at noon and were on the left side. What we found was for photo's at that time, the left side was better for pictures on the return. I was called out for standing up to get pictures by Clay, for safety reasons... so pick a spot quickly, strategically, and be advised that you can't stand up to get a picture. Issac, the person who drove the boat has a wicked sense of humor. That's why I am giving them 5 stars. We were please with several shots, but I scooted to the back of the boat!
Rebecca Z — Google review
This was a wonderful experience. We chose to sit on the top deck because we wanted full view. It was windy and over 80° so you need to choose where you sit based on weather. Absolutely everything was gorgeous and our crew on the boat was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Pictured Rocks Kayaking

Mentioned on
4 lists
Canoe & kayak tour agency
Pictured Rocks Kayaking offers an unforgettable experience along the stunning shores of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan. The tour provides an up-close view of the colorful sandstone cliffs, archways, and caves while paddling in tandem skirted kayaks. The company ensures comfort and safety by transporting visitors to the best portion of the cliffs on a customized boat before they embark on their kayaking adventure.
My wife and I completed the ultimate tour with the guidance of Hayden. I booked this kind of last minute thinking it would be a cool addition to our trip. However, it actually turned out to be the best part of our trip. Nothing topped being on Lake Superior with a kayak, beautiful weather, and the breeze we had. The water was nice, clear and cold. Something I’m not used to, being from Texas. We were able to get so close to most of the rock formations we could touch them. Hayden was a great guide and seemed very excited and passionate about this job and the outdoors. He gave us some trivia questions while also giving us information about certain features and some facts about Lake Superior. Hayden also took some photos for us and gave recommendations for other local things. I would not hesitate to book a second time. I sincerely thank the crew and Hayden for making our experience top notch. There was never anyone left behind and at no point did I feel unsafe.
Garrett — Google review
Pictured Rocks Kayaking was easily the peak of our up north trip. Many of us had seeing this national shoreline on our bucket lists since childhood and kayaking is definitely the right way doing it. The company did a fantastic job with a small tutorial and safety check to start the day. They gave us an outline of what the day would entail and how far/long we would be kayaking. Our guide, Drew, was excellent. He gave us a thorough history and background of the locations we saw and made the experience smooth and easy. He also took action shots of us throughout the trip for the family! I could not recommend Drew or this experience enough. This is a "must-do" activity when visiting Pictured Rocks.
John P — Google review
If you're in the area, definitely go with this company — the Pictured Rocks absolutely need to be seen from the water to truly appreciate their beauty up close. We initially booked the Ultimate Tour, but it was canceled due to wind conditions. Fortunately, the staff quickly helped us reschedule. Our first outing ended up being a paddle around Grand Island instead, again due to the weather. While we were a bit disappointed, the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout the process. Luckily, we had a few days in the area and were able to wait it out. When we finally did get to go on the Ultimate Tour, it was absolutely worth it! The weather was perfect — clear skies, beautiful green waters, and we even spotted bald eagles. The guides on both trips were knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. We also really appreciated that the boat had bathrooms, and the boarding process was quick and well-organized. The entire crew was professional and clearly knew what they were doing. Overall, a fantastic experience — highly recommend!
Es C — Google review
Amazing Kayaking Experience on Lake Superior! We took a road trip from Philly around the Great Lakes and decided to kayak on Lake Superior with Pictured Rocks Kayaking—and it was absolutely worth it! The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making sure we had all the equipment needed for a fun and safe experience. You’re grouped with a guide, and all the guides were college students who really knew what they were doing. They were patient, helpful, and made the trip even more enjoyable. The water was freezing cold but crystal clear, and being able to paddle right up close to the Pictured Rocks was incredible. The colors on the cliffs, created by the minerals in the rocks, were breathtaking—especially when passing through the archways. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area. Pro tip: bring (or buy) a waterproof case if you plan to take your smartphone with you—if you drop it, it’s gone!
Damian R — Google review
In mid-September, my wife and I did the Ultimate kayaking tour at Pictured Rocks, and our expectations were far exceeded. First there is the safety element, which PRK prioritizes. For days ahead we were in contact with the office due to sketchy weather prospects; the service desk kept us abreast of updates and held open an opportunity to modify our reservation if desired. Furthermore, once on the water our fantastic guide--Lillian--would probe ahead to evaluate the safety of, say, penetrating a tunnel through the cliffs; sometimes it was a go, sometimes deemed not. Next, there is the experience itself. I've twice transited the cliffs on foot, and will always recommend that adventure. However, kayaking the cliff base with this tour is another world entirely. The height, the color, the lake's power, the gnarly diversity of rockforms, all come into palpable and exhilarating focus. Adding to the natural wonders, the Ultimate experience includes sharing camaraderie with a youthful, exuberant, professional PRK team, and synergizing with a jazzed group of fellow kayakers. Again, I wish to give a plug to Lillian for how deftly she shepherded our novice, over-awed band of would-be voyageurs in and around the cliffs, how thoroughly she shared her copious knowledge of both Pictured Rocks and the wider region, and--despite how many times she must have done this job--how energetically and joyfully Lilian managed her wide-ranging tasks (one gains the impression that other guides shine similarly). Finally, it's more than the kayaking guides and scheduling staff that deserve credit here. The boat captain, support team, equipment preparers, and surely the administrators who orchestrate this operation, effuse spirit and competence. Finally, homage must be paid to the fact that PRK facilitates access to this wonderful tour to people of all abilities, from experts to newbies, from young to old, and from fit athletes to participants needing every iota of help to get into and out of a boat. I recommend this company and this experience as a must-do to anyone able and willing.

We went with our 2 young daughters (10 and 13) on Sunday. What an awesome way to get up and close to the caves and rock structures. Sam R was our guide and was amazing. She was great about interacting with the group as well as providing a lot of education along the way. Would definitely recommend!
Emily S — Google review
We did the 5 hour ultimate tour, and it was incredible. The staff was so friendly and happy - you can tell they really like their jobs and each other. The tour was insane - we were so close to the pictured rocks that we could touch them. It really is the only way to get the full experience. We were with Lillian, and she was an incredible guide! She gave us great info about the rocks and she took our pictures and airdropped them to us on the boat ride back! So cool to be able to get photos from the trip!

Had a great time kayaking at the location. It was my first kayak experience. A special shout out to the crew and the guides. Super friendly and they just let us enjoy the trip and not worry about rest. As much as I love the location, love the way the crew and the guides have made the trip much more memorable.

Munising Tourist Park Campground

Mentioned on
4 lists
Campground
Munising Tourist Park Campground is a charming lakeside campsite that has been welcoming visitors since 1924. Situated on the shores of Lake Superior, it offers stunning sunsets and a lengthy sandy beach. The campground provides tent sites just a short distance from the beach, offering a rustic atmosphere with modern amenities like Wi-Fi and showers. While the bathrooms and showers may be slightly outdated, the breathtaking views and friendly atmosphere compensate for it.
This is a beautiful campground right on the shores of Lake Superior. The front office was friendly and helpful, the grounds are beautifully kept, and it's peaceful and quiet. And it's very affordable for a full-hookup site! The only thing that was a little weird is the location of the utilities. They are different at each site. We actually had to share a pedestal with another campsite, both of us needing 30 amp service. Luckily we did have an adapter (30->50), although the office said they could loan us one if we did not. Still - 10/10 recommend staying here. We loved our stay and the town of Munising! (We stayed in site 27, but would love to have gotten a site right on the lakefront.)
Amy E — Google review
june 23-24, 2025 tent camped for one night here at Site S (a beach site). (women’s) restrooms were clean, but as an FYI there are quite large gaps in between the stall doors and mirrors right across from the stalls which makes it easy to see in / lack privacy.. staff at the camp store were nice. we wish parking was a bit better for the beach/rustic tent sites. there’s only a small concrete space and some dirt parking beside it, and it seemed like not quite enough for everyone staying at the rustic beach sites (and I think each site only had 1 car; this might be due to no lines and people parking poorly too though). the site itself was BEAUTIFUL besides a bit longer of a walk to the actual Site S than we thought (but we did see a wheelbarrow you could use). it also is quite far from the restrooms, just FYI. our neighbors were polite once we talked to them but we felt frustrated when we came back to our site and the picnic table was moved (meaning one site had 2 and we now had 0). this wasn’t the campground owners’ fault though of course. the fire pit was nice. the location of the campground is nice too, as it’s not a far drive away from gas stations, stores, coffee shops, and town if needed. overall: the rustic tent sites are in an amazing location—right on the beach only a few feet from the water. the camp store and bathrooms are a bit run down in my opinion, and the main area (away from the rustic sites) didn’t feel really welcoming, but it’s worth it for the views you get at the site!
Annabelle R — Google review
The campground is perfectly situated—just minutes from town and surrounded by parks and recreational areas. Our site was near the highway, which we anticipated, so while the road noise was noticeable, it wasn’t a surprise and did settle down overnight. Beach access from the campground is quick and easy, and the stunning views more than make up for any traffic-related inconvenience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made our stay even more enjoyable. We’d absolutely return!
Tony S — Google review
Munising Tourist Park Campground offers one of the most scenic camping experiences in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with about 20% of the sites directly overlooking Lake Superior. The sunsets are spectacular, and the location is perfect for exploring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore — just a few minutes away. The campground itself is clean and generally well-maintained. One of the two shower and restroom facilities were closed for remodeling so had to walk or drive to the other end of the park to use showers/restrooms. Sites vary quite a bit in size and privacy — the lakefront spots are unbeatable for the view but can be windy and more exposed, while the sites offer slightly better shelter but less scenery. Staff were all business. Upon check-in, the female was only interested in getting me checked in and helping the man that was next. No chit-chat here. Electrical hookups are available on lake side sites and saw hookups on other sites. Not sure they are available on all sites though. Also sewer at the individual sites or at least there was on ours. Not sure if there was Wi-Fi but cell service was fine. Since it's right along the highway, traffic noise has to be dealt with and can be quite loud until late at night when traffic dies down. Overall, Munising Tourist Park Campground is a great base for sightseeing, kayaking, or hiking in the area. It’s best suited for campers who value location and views over luxury amenities.
LowerMichigan248 — Google review
The campground is small but nice and quiet. We loved having a spot right on the water that was just a few feet from our campground! It is wasn't for the road traffic, I would give this site a 5* but being so close to the road, it was annoying at times. Beautiful campground and gorgeous lake!

This campground is one of the best we have ever stayed at! We have stayed in spots #92 and #100, both of which are lake front sites. They have firewood for sell at reasonable prices. Bathrooms are clean, and showers are individual rooms with locks. They are right off the highway, but the noise never bothers us.
Madison G — Google review
Tent with a fantastic view! Bathrooms were fairly clean. Dumpster is quite far from the rustic camping sites, so some people would just pile up their trash on the small trash bin near the rustic sites. The campground offers wheelbarrows to haul gear to the rustic sites, however, some people like to hog them and you may have to wait a bit for them.
Hannah — Google review
We had a site right on Lake Superior and the beach was sandy. Very shallow only waste deep. Lake Superior is a refreshing to swim in. Bathrooms we fine. Did not use showers. Busy road nearby with lots of noise, but we could still hear the waves.

Sand Point Beach is a picturesque area with stunning sunset views, sandy shores, and shallow waters. During the day, it's bustling with activities like kayaking and sunbathing. As evening falls, the beach clears out, providing ample space to enjoy the sunset behind Grand Island and the shoreline. Parking is available at Sand Point Beach or Munising Falls. The beach also offers opportunities for photography, especially during sunrise when pastel morning light creates beautiful compositions.
Great dog friendly beach! Loved the path to the water. Great place to spend the day. Bathrooms were clean. Not too crowded when we went.

Stopped for a short walk at Sand Point Beach in the Pictured Rocks area. It was a great place to walk the dogs and check out the water. We even saw some driftwood forts that some visitors must have built recently. A relaxing and quiet beachfront on Lake Superior.

Beautiful beach! Gorgeous blue, clear water. Very clean. Parking lot nearby.
Sheryl S — Google review
Nice quiet beach with an amazing view. Dog friendly. Our dog loved it. Water is obviously cold, but not too bad for a quick wade in the summer. Great place for a picnic.
Logan M — Google review
It has a little metal board walk to the water. There isn't a large parking lot but there is enough. Clean and not too busy.
Makalah — Google review
Wow! Such a spectacular place to view an October sunset from!
Jason H — Google review
Great sandy beach with shallow waters for swimming or walking. Great views of the island and island cliffs. The west facing beach is more sandy as the north facing beach is more scenic. Rock Hunters, drive to the end of the road where you have a turn around and walk to the far east end of the north beach to hunt for those awesome Lake Superior Rocks. This also has restrooms on the west beach.
David B — Google review
Great beach. Clean sand, lots of driftwood, beautiful views of Grand Island and the East Channel Lighthouse. The Pictured Rocks park ranger headquarters is here and a small maritime exhibit about the life saving station that was there. There are some nicely maintained bathrooms (but they are just pit toilets). The water is fairly shallow for quite a ways out and the water in the bay is a bit warmer.

Miners Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Nestled within the stunning Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Miners Falls is a must-visit for waterfall lovers. This breathtaking 60-foot cascade tumbles over a sandstone ledge, creating a mesmerizing sight that draws visitors year-round. The journey to the falls is made easy by a well-maintained gravel path that spans just 1.2 miles round trip, complete with wooden stairs leading down to an observation platform for an up-close view of the rushing water.
Beautiful, wooded walk through tall trees and a wide gravel path to the waterfall. Gushing waterfall when we visited with a nice, cool mist breeze. Easy-moderate hike, 1.2 miles (.6 miles to waterfall and then back to the parking area). A few hill step-downs at the start of the trail and about 50 steps to get to the lower viewing deck of the falls (which is best for viewing). There is an upper deck viewing area but the view of the entire waterfall is much more limited. Other than the 3-4 step downs at the start of the trail, it’s mostly handicap inclusive.
Jewels D — Google review
This is an amazing waterfall. About .6 miles to hike in. Nothing drastic. 72 steps at the end and you can walk down to the lower park. There is challenging terrain once at the bottom but you can get to the base of the falls. Beautiful and feels great!
Gerid ( — Google review
.6 of a mile hike to miner falls but so beautiful. You’re able to go down into the falls as well.
Amanda S — Google review
A gorgeous waterfall with multiple viewpoints. 15 minutes from the parking lot to the falls or less. I visited on the last weekend of September around 1pm and it was pretty busy; the parking lot was full enough for cars to line the road coming up. Don’t let that deter you! Only about half of visitors or less ended up at the bottom of the falls due to the steep and rugged climb down, so I was able to get about 3 minutes uninterrupted with the falls for clear photos. The climb down involves a very steep rooted path over the rocks with a roughly 4’ wall of rock to scale when coming back up about midway (a foot step is carved in the stone but kids will definitely need help). There are two viewing platforms across from the top if you can’t make it down, but I saw a group of 7-10y/o kids and at the bottom with their parents.
Hannah F — Google review
Finally posting from August. Beautiful hike thru the woods. It does involve some stairs and inclines. My Apple Watch clocked it at 1.34 miles and 30minutes.
Lisa H — Google review
Amazing. The final 50ft descend to the waterfall is not paved. But there are ropes and roots that can be used as hand rails.
Aravind P — Google review
Very cool to see these falls up close. There are quite a few stairs to climb after a relatively easy hike.

Absolutely worth the drive to see this beautiful waterfall. The hike down is a short one.

Wagner Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Wagner Falls, nestled just 1.5 miles south of Munising, is a stunning natural gem that captivates visitors year-round. Surrounded by majestic old-growth hemlock and pine trees, reaching the falls is a breeze with only a short 25-foot walk from the small parking area to the observation platform. The trail features packed gravel and a charming boardwalk, making it accessible for all.
Nice trail, easy to walk with nice benches to take in nature and a beautiful waterfall at the end. The lot is a little small but no problems when I was there.
Dan U — Google review
Lots of mosquitoes during this time of the year so beware! Still worth a visit though since it’s easy to find with very short, easy trail.
Vy Z — Google review
Beautiful falls that are currently somewhat obscured by recent storm damage. If you can look past the downed trees, the falls are beautiful. Part of me wanted to climb down and push the trees off, but I have no idea what the laws are regarding something like that in Michigan. Hopefully someone from their parks or forestry department can get out there and clean that up. The path and bridges here are well made and well-kept. There are nice views on both sides of the path, though I found the right side (while headed towards the falls) to be far more impressive. There's a nice railed platform that offers views for about six people at a time. The signage here gives some details of the history, a map of several other waterfalls, and emergency numbers and looks to be kept in good repair. There is a decent sized parking area across the street. There are no restrooms or picnic tables, though there are several benches. Worth visiting, but would be significantly better if they moved the fallen trees off to the sides.
Nathan F — Google review
Great falls. Worth the stop! Short hike to get there.
Scott C — Google review
Very short walk to a great waterfall. While its not a hug fall, its still very pretty and all the scenery adds to it. There is limited parking at the trailhead, but people are continuously coming and going. The trail is well marked and a beautiful walk as well. If you have an extra 30 minutes in Munising it is worth a stop.
Abbey M — Google review
Nice little area that you could walk on with a wheelchair. There was some small hills but managable with a little extra pushing. Had a wooden bridge walkway too. It was a short walk to see the waterfall.
Christine J — Google review
Very short easy walk. Beautiful falls, one was on my favorites!
Alison W — Google review
Very easy walk from the parking area. Path is clear and wide. Stroller access until the viewing platform for those with young ones. The falls are beautiful and have a great viewing deck. We went in the evening (around 7:30) and got to enjoy it all to ourselves. That obviously won’t be everyone’s experience, but it made ours really great.

Falling Rock Cafe & Bookstore is a charming spot in downtown Munising, offering a cozy ambiance with live music and local art. It's a great place for families to unwind and savor delicious cafe fare, including their famous grilled cheese sandwich and locally caught smoked whitefish bagel. The cafe also caters to vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets while serving company-roasted coffees and locally churned Jilbert Dairy ice cream.
Great spot to sit and sip your coffee while studying or reading. They have a very interesting book selection. It's small but very interesting new, contemporary authors along with a small used section. The coffee is tasty and the food is delicious. Great spot!

We stopped here after our boat tour to get late lunch. This place has wonderful coffee and delicious sandwiches - we enjoyed gyros and avocado toast. Spacious seating and nice book/art shop. People here are amazing!
JitkaKac — Google review
We wanted to get quick take out breakfast and coffee to take as sustenance on the Pictured Rock Cruise on Lake Superior, so we were in a time crunch. They quickly made us toasted breakfast bagels of egg, bacon, and cheese and filled cups of coffee for our excursion. And we got to the boat in time! Cool place. Next visit, I will sit and read books while enjoying a leisurely breakfast!
Allison B — Google review
Stopped in for a hot chocolate. Very good. They have various coffees, tea. As well as sandwiches and ice cream & a few other items. Very nice café & coffee shop. Laid back and relaxing. Went back for a bite for breakfast: English muffin & bagel, coffee. Neither one was toasted, most likely microwaved. We asked for them to be toasted, wife said her bagel was very "doughy." My English muffin was barely warm. Butter was one big "glob" on one side & nothing on other piece of muffin. Cofee's were not so good. However, gal at register was very nice.

This is a magical little bookstore/coffee shop that also serves sandwiches & ice cream. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect, with people perusing books and families playing board games together on the various tables. There's a small kids play area, making this the perfect place for busy families to gather for lunch or coffee while the kids also enjoy playing. We didn't get any food today, but the menu looked good. They have gluten free bread, leading to many sandwich options. The music was perfect, and the vibe was exactly what I'm always looking for. I don't live in Munising, but if I did, I would be a regular here!

Came across nice little local cafe, that also has a bookstore. The serve breakfast, coffee and lunch item. Everything that we ordered was good except the avocado toast. The toast was just a thin spread avocado. There was barely any avocado on it. Breakfast sandwich and Sweet Potato Quinoa burger was delicious.
Tejas D — Google review
This was such a fun stop. It took a bit of time but worth the wait. The coffee was good, the crossaint sandwich was so good I forgot to get a picture before I ate it all. The books, a mix of new and old were fun to browse. Some very unique options.
Lisa C — Google review
Best food we had in Munising. The sweet potato quinoa burger was tasty and a real highlight. I also tried the breakfast burrito and it was okay but not worth going back for. The guy next to me had a egg sandwich on a croissant and i wosh i had ordered thst. The coffee was so-so and the ordering and service process was confusing. But if you can manage those aspects then the food is worth it.

The Dogpatch Restaurant in Munising is a long-standing establishment known for its casual setting and playful decor featuring characters from the famous comic strip, Li'l Abner. The menu items are named after these characters, adding to the whimsical atmosphere. The restaurant offers Upper Peninsula country cooking with a focus on fried fish, steaks, and homestyle breakfasts.
The food was awesome! I was shocked at how quickly it arrived, even though we waited over 10 minutes. But, we did come during lunch. Our server was amazing! She was super nice and quick, even though she had tons of tables. I thoroughly enjoyed the walleye basket, and it was truly delicious. The fish's crispy breading, the crunchy fries, and the tart tartar sauce were all phenomenal. My father and sister also greatly enjoyed their Yokum's and Country Classic, describing them as superb. It is certainly a must-visit location in Michigan for anyone seeking delicious American cuisine.
Khong K — Google review
We were in town over Labor weekend and tried The Dogpatch for both breakfast and lunch. On Sunday afternoon we stopped in for lunch. There was little to no wait less than 5 minutes. Once seated our drink order was taken and we were off and running. I knew what I wanted before going in, but my wife looked over the menu for a few minutes. She chose the grilled chicken while I had the Whitefish. Our order was placed and delivered our table in minutes. Everything was hot with great flavor. We wanted breakfast before getting on the road to head home and picked here to try. Our breakfast service was even faster than our lunch service was with an order of cinnamon French toast and the Country Boy. Our meals were good and service even better on both experiences.
Chad K — Google review
The entrance faces the water. There are signs to tell you where the entrance is. The parking lot has plenty of spaces. The interior had clean lines and looks newer. There is a ramp down to the tables. The server was friendly. We went in because a sign out front said they had steaks but no steaks were on the menu. They have bar style food, almost everything is breaded. I ordered a mushroom Swiss Burger. It was a smash style burger. Fries are included. It was good. Also, I got a pep and cheese pizza. It was just OK, it was a frozen pizza (I asked). They do have a full bar and seats around 8.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch driving through from vacation. Nice atmosphere. I had the big Ab’ner (double patty) nicely seasoned burger and she had the whitefish sandwich. Both were delicious and quantity of food was very good….very good value. Rob was our server….very friendly and took great care of us. I highly recommend it!!

Food was fantastic! Great burgers! We had some fried mushrooms for an app that were good. There is a great little place next door to check out as well- highly recommend stopping in if you are in Munising!
David S — Google review
Food is overpriced for what you get and the quality of the food is bar food at best. We all ordered something different and it seems to be frozen pre-packaged food service foods that they deep fry and serve. The location is great, close to fun shops and it’s cute inside but sadly the food did not do it for us. Additionally, we all had not eaten during the day because we were traveling so this was the first meal in about 6 or so hours. All of us were pretty sick about 5 hours after eating here. The only common items we had were the French fries and a cheese queso for the fries. Our thought is the queso was old or not stored properly. We were pretty sick for the next day or so then we all started bouncing back. Granted, we have no solid proof of them and food poisoning so I am just stating details, draw your own conclusions. Sadly, there are not many good restaurant options in the town. It is a tourist town but leaves them hanging with no great options. This place was probably one of the few restaurants that seemed to have good potential but in the end it was a let down. The best thing we found that wasn’t fried and processed was SubWay. Terrible! Overall it’s a cute restaurant and the food will fill you up but that’s it, no real wow factor here and there obviously is a potential for food poisoning. I’m not sure I would recommend this place but everyone can decide for themselves and leave a review so that we all can put together a consensus.
The T — Google review
Stopped for supper here on my way to Marquette on 6.21.2025. My experience could have been better. From my waiter, Trevor, I got the impression this place was serve, eat and leave. The Fish and Chips were good.
Rick W — Google review
The Dogpatch is a great option for breakfast, instead of waiting in line for a tiny table at the super small, popular BREAKFAST cafe 2 blocks away. We sat right down and ordered right away. Breakfast was really good! Hot, generous portions, and our waitress, while busy, was friendly and attentive. You can’t help but laugh at the menu and the comical “interior decor!” With its log cabin design, this restaurant can be a little dark inside — we choose to sit on the windowed side which offered plenty of daylight. After breakfast, we walked directly next door to a gift shop that looks small from the outside but was well stocked with souvenirs, etc.

Dropped in here couple of summers ago, still remember the great bar vibe and service here. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to visit. No food served by the bar but there are food trucks close by and they welcome underage kids on the family side. I saw pint glasses with Barge Inn stickers and asked about them. Bartender lady told me they're $10, buy one and they'll fill it with a free beer. Sold! One of these days I'll be back in the UP (Lake Superior captured me with her charms) and I'll be "barging" in again here too.

Very tasty and original ingredients. Their flatbreads are amazing, especially the Driftwood, the Blueberry, and the Mediterranean. They were freshly made. It's got great decorations and they take orders for people who are hanging out at the neighbor brewery. They sell cool local items. Great service too!

The food was great. I had a flat bread and my wife had a sandwich. The were both ready fairly quick and they were delicious. The staff was friendly and engaging. They offered both food and local destination recommendations. If they had been open earlier we would have grab a to go lunch for a kayaking trip the next day.

The food was truly excellent, and it was certainly worth the price. We were fortunate enough to be the first diners just a few minutes before opening, so we didn't have to wait at all. We had initially planned to eat elsewhere, but the other restaurant was very busy, with a 45-minute wait. Fortunately, Driftwood Deli was just a short walk away, and we were very pleased with our experience. Dude, I got the Italiano with chips and dips, and it's amazing. The bread was awesome, and it tasted so good. You gotta try it! My family got the bacon chicken, chicken rice bowl, and veggie bowl, and they all loved them. This is a great place to grab a bite on a nice patio, which is where we ate. I'd recommend it for tourists. We came to Michigan for a lodge getaway, so this spot is perfect for socializing.

Small place, so we didn't know what to expect, but we were really happy with the food! There was a long line to order, and it took awhile for food to come, but it was huge! He had a chicken panini, and I had a chicken bowl. His had seasoned pretzels with dip on the side and mine was just huge! It had chicken, black beans, roasted corn, fresh salsa, over rice. Excellent choice! Worth the wait! Hubby was able to get a locally crafted beer next door, and it was perfect with his meal. Worth a second visit!

The blueberry pizza was absolutely fire! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the sweet and savory combo totally worked — every bite was packed with flavor. A must-try if you’re in the mood for something unique and delicious. The pretzels were another highlight and seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of salt and butter. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. Great spot for grabbing a quick bite or trying something new. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
Jonathan L — Google review
The best meal we had in Munising! We had the Italian, Muffuletta, Chicken Bacon, and Pulled Pork Sandwiches. Each one was packed with flavor and toasted to perfection. Each sandwich comes with their house made pretzels which are dusted with spices and garlic and are spectacular. The sauce they serve to dip the pretzels tastes ranch based and is the perfect complement. If you don’t like pretzels, you can swap it for a bag of chips. For gluten free options, they have bread that is prepared in a separate area for celiacs. The pulled pork sandwich was safe and delicious. A big pro of this place is that you can order your sandwich and have it delivered to the connected brewery and get a drink. A perfect way to spend lunch after taking a pictured rocks cruise or hike!

Nestled in the heart of Munising since 1989, Pictured Rocks Pizza has become a beloved staple for both locals and visitors alike. This charming pizzeria is renowned for its generous, flavor-rich pizzas crafted from fresh, homemade ingredients. With signature offerings like the hearty Pictured Rocks pizza—topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers—and the creamy Chicken Alfredo pizza featuring grilled chicken and spinach, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Pizza was made with fresh and tasteful ingredients in front of you. Games and outdoor dining are also options. Inside dining was clean and food came very quickly. The meat pie was amazing. Sauce isn’t to sweet and well balanced. The start of the show was the cheese sticks. Wow the cheese was gooey and very flavorful. Garlic was on point. This is my favorite pizza in the area.

Very fun place. Toppings were decent and the wood fired crust was probably one of the best I have had. They were very efficient and fast at getting pizzas made and cooked - keeping up with the busy rush of people. The outside area is very nice to sit at and eat, very friendly staff and the price was very fair for what you received. I would highly recommend this place to others and would go back myself !!

This place is 10 stars!! Your trip is not complete as long as you have not visited here!! Fresh Pizza, served hot to eat in the beautiful store front! Very fast serving. We went in 4th July weekend packed with visitors but their process is so streamlined and fast. I could see how fast and well they were able to cater to the customers. Pizza was so delicious and toppings are amazing. They have few indoor sitting and few outdoor sittings. I definitely recommend. They have vegetarian options as well.

When is a 12" pizza too big to eat by yourself - even for a big eater like me? When it's from Pictured Rocks Pizza! Maybe it's because the pizzas are LOADED with yummy toppings. This was easily our best meal in Munising. The Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza was absolutely delicious, and the Meat Pie pizza was even good when reheated the next day. Our only nitpick was seeing an employee putting chairs up on tables a half-hour before closing time, when there were still plenty of customers coming in and a real shortage of in-house seating.

Great pizza, friendly service! Pizza was ready super quick, which is a plus when you are hungry! Didn’t know they charge EXTRA for getting a topping on half your pizza- just fyi, but other than that, would definitely come back!

My loyal Mastiff, Bucket and I stopped in for lunch at Pictured Rocks Pizza and shared their Local Special pizza—it was excellent! Eh! Burger is a charming quick-service restaurant located in Munising, MI, offering a variety of hand-crafted burgers and classic American dishes. The restaurant has been receiving positive feedback from both locals and visitors for its delicious offerings and friendly service. With a rustic yet modern decor, the venue provides a cozy atmosphere with stunning views of the southern bay of Lake Superior. Guests can enjoy their meals on the patio while sipping on locally crafted beers.
We stopped by after Pictured Rock cruise and the food was wonderful! Definitely an easy option for tourists as the location is so convenient too. I guess you can try more local food, but the atmosphere had a somewhat of a local community vibe so I liked it. They have both Coca Cola and Pepsi machines which I’ve never seen in other stores!! Veteran run business.

Great burgers! This is made to order food with counter service. We got lucky that no one was in line when we got there, so we didn’t have to wait too long. We ordered way too much food. A side of fries can easily feed 2-3 people. The cashier didn’t bother to tell us that when we ordered 3 sides for 5 people. Lots of fries were thrown away and money was wasted. Really enjoyed our burgers and chicken tenders though. I also enjoyed the pear cider from local brewery By George.

We got into town a little late around 8:30pm and just wanted a little something. Eh! Burger was close to our VRBO, so we just walked over. There was little to no wait once we entered, but as the sunset boat cruise returned it got busy. My wife had wanted to try an impossible burger and took the plunge. I tried it too and we both thought the taste was good, but it does have a different texture to it. My mushroom burger was good, too. The tots were crunchy which I like, but were older somewhat cold not fresh.

Hello came in to grab a bite after our pictured rocks tour so went with the closest option. The menu is full of different burgers and american options. They even have poutine which we tried. We had the onion rings which were soo fresh and the batter was perfect ! Looks like it gets busy in there so wait time can be a bit of a drag. We ordered some loaded tatter tots which come drenched in nacho cheese. We grabbed a nice cheese burger as well. The condiment table was empty on our side so we had to get up and go to the other condiment table. The place can get a little noisy and the poutine gravy was not the greatest ive had poutine in L.A and was blown away but i figured this close to canada you cannot fail at it, but i would give their poutine a 6/10 sorry. I would try this place again but hold the poutine! 8/10 thanks guys!

The place is like a fast food place like standing in line to order, get you cup, and sit. That is where the similarities end. They bring the food out to you once it's done. The staff from order to get our food was friendly. The establishment was clean and seating was build mainly for 2-4 people. Mostly are booths with some table and chairs along with the added outside seating which were wooden picnic tables with umbrellas. The food was delicious. We ordered the Eh Burger which didn't come with fries, but we ordered separately. The other sandwich was the white fish sandwich, which was one of the better fish sandwiches I have had. The burger was flavorful but a bit greasy, so you might reconsider if grease is not your friend. The fish sandwich was a little unique as it was not a single fish patty but several pieces with some slightly spicy seasoning. I will say that you have to try the "Eh" burger since you're in the U.P.! I would go again.

So first they are open to 11pm which is awesome after a sunset boat tour. We had the 1/3 lb burger and it was so good, juicy and flavorful sauce. The cheese tots are to die for! But one order easily feed 3 or 4 adults. The little bacon cheeseburger was lacking, the meat patty was thin like a McDonald's patty (I guess if your a kid) but I couldn't eat a 1/3 pound and ordered a little. There was more bun than burger and not a good bun like the big burger. So do t order the littlest unless they start making them a bit more quality. The tables are a fun spot to do some planning.

Inside and out, Eh! Burger looks the part of an excellent high-end burger joint. My Backdraft (with bacon) burger was okay, but in a do-over I'd order something else. My wife's Eh! Chicken Sandwich was well liked. The cheese curds weren't bad, but we'd just had some spicy cheese curds elsewhere that put them to shame. The fries were thick cut and very potatoey, and would be quite good with some ranch or ketchup - but came with neither. Service was lackluster in every way; my burger came without the bacon I'd paid extra for, my wife overheard the two girls gossiping while a long line of customers was waiting to order, etc., etc.

Came here for dinner on our last night in Munising. Food is great! Chicken tenders were good, the fries are amazing, and the burgers are huge and delicious! I am so glad we stopped! The cashier was also very kind!

Main Street Pizza - Munising

$$$$affordable
Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Main Street Pizza in Munising is a relaxed eatery that serves uncomplicated pizzas, as well as salads, subs, and nachos. This unpretentious pizza joint may go unnoticed due to its unassuming appearance, but it's definitely worth a visit. The laid-back atmosphere provides the perfect setting for families with kids to enjoy a delicious hot pizza after a day of exploring hiking trails.
This place was great! They were super busy as the whole town was, so I asked what they could make fast and this salad did not disappoint. It’s huge and only 8 bucks. I’m glad I tipped 5 bucks because these people saved my hunger. The taco meat is super good.
Robert C — Google review
This was the most disorganized pizza jot I have ever seen. The phones keep ringing, and no one answered them. A team of three should been able to handle the volume of customers that came in, and I say this from experience. The pizza tasted alright, not my favorite by far. The cheese sticks on the other hand were raw. I personally wouldn't return.
My A — Google review
Pizza was awesome, takeout because dine in shuts down a lot earlier than closing time. Went back to order a couple days later and was unable to get takeout 40min. before closing time. They had already stopped taking orders. Went up the hill to “Eh! Burger” and was not disappointed
Kyle R — Google review
Small understaffed Pizza restaurant with very good pizza. Generous amount of toppings on my thin crust 12 inch mushrooms, Italian sausage and black olives. Clearly everything is custom made and the take out business is very brisk. So if you want a good pizza be patient and wait. If you want a fast pizza get a frozen one and use your microwave!
Allen S — Google review
I get it the place was packed busy. Service wasn't the issue. I expected to wait about an hour so I was prepared for that. I was told 30-40 min., it was closer to 55 min. No biggie they were busy. My issue however is the quality of the product. Crust had potential. Sauce was good. The toppings were another thing. They didn't drain the veggies of any of their juices. Our pizzas were so wet it was virtually inedible. The ham was cubed which I'm open to but it didn't work in my opinion. It was like putting cold breakfast ham and veggies on a pizza. All diced and just wet. I ordered a 5 meat and got a special order pizza. I normally would have called back and requested proper product but again they were really busy. It happens I get it but at least pump out a quality product. They center loaded the pizza which on top of the juicy toppings left the center of the crust nasty. We are from out of state so we probably won't have time to try it again. But really disappointed.

If I could give this place a 0 I would. Visiting the area. Went in around dinner time. Immediately walking in the door, the male cashier with glasses yells out at us "WE ARE NOT TAKING ANYMORE ORDERS TONIGHT." Yelled it again to us. We were stunned and embarrassed by the people looking at us. We decided to go over to Harding's where we received excellent customer service and food was good. I have a suggestion to this establishment. If you can't handle business and customer service, then you need to put a sign out on the door before the customer goes in to let them know your overwhelmed. More importantly, the employee's need to be given serious training on customer service. GO HARDING's!
J T — Google review
We ordered pizza on a Sunday night and were told the wait would be about 45 minutes—which was totally fine. When we returned, the place was absolutely slammed and they had to stop taking new orders due to the high demand. Most other pizza spots in town are closed on Sundays, so this place gets busy fast. I’d definitely recommend going early and being patient. The staff was friendly and clearly working hard to keep up with the rush.
Mike K — Google review
Here on vacation. Pizza was just ok, "wings" were obviously from the freezer, yet some were burnt. My pizza wasn't cooked through and my husband's was overcooked. Overall, quite disappointed considering what we paid.

Toby's Dog House

Mentioned on
1 list
Hot dog restaurant
Toby's Dog House is a popular hot dog stand that originated in Manistique and has recently expanded to Munising, setting up shop next to the Barge Inn. The menu offers an extensive selection of hot dogs with various toppings, as well as other options like gyros, chicken fingers, tacos, sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. Customers can enjoy their food in the Barge beer garden while sipping on cold beverages from the inn.
Nicely curated styles of hot dogs available. Takes a little while, but everything is fresh and tasty! Lady at the counter was very good customer service. You can sit at the Barge In nextdoor and get drinks.
Jillian G — Google review
The fish in the fish basket was fried perfectly, crispy outside, flakes inside. The fries that came with it would be better if crisper. They were too soft and mushy. The French dip was tasty and on a soft roll. Weather was nice, so we ate on the patio.
Karin B — Google review
I am a picky eater, but this place right here was beyond amazing! The food was cooked freshly (the French fries does not have seasons on it but the fresh and shrimp does!) Overall experience... AMAZING!
Aydene L — Google review
We drank at Barge Inn and walked across to Toby’s Dog House and had a Kracken! Fish/shrimp and Lobster- absolutely amazing. The tomatoes were so good too. I take them out to eat first. lol
Marsha M — Google review
Amazing food and atmosphere! We got 3 hot dogs, fries and 2 sides of coleslaw for just $28. You can go right next door to the barge inn to grab drinks and eat inside or on the super nice patio area.
Nikki M — Google review
Pretty good hotdogs plenty of toppings. Fries were a bit bland could use more salt, they had ketchup and other sauces that were easy to access. Customer service great super welcoming to us tourists. I went with my large family and the guy gave us an extra basket of fries which was pretty awesome. Parking good and seating is at the tavern inn which is good also. Reasonable prices for food, spent $21 to get two hotdogs with toppings and a chicken strip basket with fries.
Rebecca N — Google review
The food and the atmosphere were great! They partner with the bar next door for a place to sit and get drinks. The drinks were excellent as well. We had a great dinner!

Wonderful food. Good service and friendly staff. We ate here twice in one day while on vacation. Nice atmosphere, saw free band at place next door while eating dinner.

Eclectic restaurant
Fine dining restaurant
Tracey's at Roam Inn is a small and relaxed restaurant that offers elevated American comfort and bistro fare, with a focus on using local farm-to-table ingredients. The establishment has received recognition for its excellent service and presentation. Visitors have praised the food, particularly highlighting dishes like poke, brick chicken, and creme brulee. The menu offers just enough choices to create a wonderful meal, catering to various preferences.
THIS PLACE!! What a diamond to find in Munising!! The food is 5 Star!! The Chef is so far above most restaurants in the area! The craftsmanship and passion put into presentation paralleled with flavors that leave you wanting more sets Tracey's apart!! This is a MUST GO TO!
Paul C — Google review
The restaurant is located inside a hotel and has more of a country inn atmosphere than that of a high-end establishment. The host seemed to assume I was just there to use the restroom, which felt a bit unwelcoming. On a positive note, our server was helpful and let us sample two types of beer. The charcuterie board was fairly standard, and the potato chip whitefish was nicely prepared. However, both dishes felt overpriced for the portion size and overall quality.
J L — Google review
Visited for my sister in law’s wedding dinner! Beautiful, comforting setting. They even gave our party an entire side room to ourselves, without having to reserve a separate room. They allowed for cake cutting (outside cake brought in) and the photographer inside the restaurant as well. The only negative was the length of time it took to confirm our orders and receive the food. We had arrived early (6pm and resevervations were 630pm), food was delivered at 7:55pm. No salad or bread to begin with while waiting. Smaller portions for the price point. Delicious meals though! The best steak and cream sauce that I have ever eaten. Very well versed in dietary restrictions and accommodating for celiac disease. Mixed drinks & mocktails were great also. We will return!
Tiffany S — Google review
Since the minute we walked in, Amber was friendly and attentive. She gave us excellent suggestions, which we took her up on. I ordered a dragonfruit martini, which was great. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and the breading was excellent. We ordered the American wagyu steak and whitefish to share. Both were delicious and prepared perfectly. We will definitely return and highly recommend.
Deanna L — Google review
The aroma filled the air, a promise of delightful flavors to come. The Surf & Turf was a work of art, carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a perfect backdrop for the meal. Every bite was a burst of exquisite taste, a symphony for the palate. It was truly a memorable dining experience.
C. P — Google review
The food was excellent along with the service! Not a single dish had food on it. The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was calm.
Shpirt D — Google review
We got the Bone marrow butter burger which was absolutely delicious! Ordered a veg ramen and lamb ramen which was good too. However, a to-go order for lamb ramen turned out to be without meat and without much flavor compared to the one we had in the restaurant. We figured after we got back to our room when we opened the box - it’s an expensive dine-in for which the to-go order didn’t seem worth it.
Raagini B — Google review
Every meal I've had at Tracey's has been excellent. Nick and Jason took great care of me on this visit. I look forward to returning.

Buckhorn Resort

Resort hotel
Hotel
Nestled in a secluded lakeside location, Buckhorn Resort offers humble quarters, some with kitchens and BBQs. The resort's rustic charm is complemented by a hearty menu at its restaurant, featuring standard fare like sandwiches and burgers alongside top sirloin and rib-eye steaks for fine dining. Situated in the Heart of the Hiawatha National Forest, this retreat provides a relaxing getaway for your next Michigan vacation. Guests praise the cleanliness of the rooms and commend the helpful staff.
This was my first stay at the Buckhorn and I'd definitely return. Stayed five nights for a snowmobile trip. Older rooms but clean and comfortable. Shower/tub had hot water and good drainage. Plenty of electric outlets. Mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker as advertised. No problems with the Wi-Fi connection but the speed is just adequate. Read the description they post carefully and you'll know what to expect. Don't compare them to the suite at the all-inclusive in Cabo

We checked out the 2 lodges for a family reunion. Lodge 1 sleeps 22, has 2 large rooms for hanging out, and 2 refrigerators. Lodge 2 sleeps 12, has a beautiful view with a porch with seating for 12, fireplace, barbecue, and cozy living room. Ir is also right next to the restaurant and motel (if food or more rooms or privacy are needed. The lodges are reasonably priced, and food is excellent, meals $15-$25, with large portions.

This off the trail resort was mediocre at best. Rooms were clean but dingy. There is no air conditioning. It is not convenient for travel back and forth to Munising. The toilet was nearly under the sink. I am glad I am short. We did not try the restaurant.

Tracie M — Google review
I would not stay at Buckhorn Resort again. Here’s why: • Buckhorn Resort is an older motel with a restaurant whose rooms open onto a big parking lot. It's in a distant, remote, unpopolated area that's nothing like touristy Munising. • It's easy to get lost finding it, especially at night. There’s no cell, text, or email service so no help's available. GPS quickly gets confused and not reliable. Buckhorn Road winds thru dense forest, has no cars, and is pitch black at night. • The room, which seemed typical, was clean, but had no air conditioning or privacy curtains, an unwelcome surprise. Privacy meant closing the window black-out curtains which blocked outdoors fresh air from coming in. The room became stuffy and sleep difficult. The ceiling fan didn’t help. • The room’s double hung windows seemed openable from the outside, a security concern, unless latched shut. • There’s no motel office or staff for help or to answer questions. I asked at the restuarant bar about where to check-in and a waitress helped me. A maintenance man told me how to check-out while vacuuming a floor. • Once the restaurant closes, everything’s locked-up. One night a fellow urgently called to me through my room’s open window. He couldn’t find the key left for him, and had nowhere to turn. Maybe he slept in his car. Not good.

Transportation infrastructure
Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport, also known as Sawyer International Airport (MQT), is a small airport with only three gates. It offers car rental services and taxi or rideshare options for transportation. The TSA agents are helpful and accommodating, providing assistance with luggage and medical supplies. While the check-in process is smooth, some travelers find the security process to be slow. Additionally, there are no restaurants within the airport, but nearby gas stations and eateries are just a 10-minute drive away.
Our fight was delayed, but someone kept us updated with announcements of the status of our incoming fight. It was such a nice change to be told vs having to go to the counter and ask. They had us go through TSA before the plane arrived (remember, small airport with only 3 Gates) so we could quickly board and be on our way! Just wanted to say thanks for keeping us updated!😉👍
Kimberly M — Google review
Very small airport, but cheapest parking I’ve ever paid to keep my car at an airport. Staff was friendly. My husband even made note that the TSA agents were the most friendly ones we have ever seen. Only issue was we arrived at 4:30 am, (which is when their website said they opened) there was no one at the check in counters, coffee shop or tsa. TSA did not open the gates to start the day until 5:10am. But really it was either to wait on one side or the other. Either way, it was waiting until 6 when we could board the plane. ✈️
Emi M — Google review
Best rental car experience, best check-in/bag drop experience, best TSA experience, period. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Just like any other airport you should plan ahead and bring plenty of time for check-in and bag drop. The folks there pull double duty as ramp agents, etc. and can't cater to every single late arriving passenger. Keep that in mind and you too will have a pleasant experience flying to and from this airport :)
Antsy H — Google review
It’s a great little airport and the rental car was very easy in and out; all employees were personable and check-in was very quick and easy. Make sure you get you bags and tickets at least 45 minutes before your flight, they close the counter off so to ensure there are not issues with your bags and flights. Short drive to Marquette and you are ready for an NMU Football Games As I was. Go #63, Let’s Make History Wild Cats!
Walter H — Google review
I have flown into and out of this airport 3 times in the past 10 years. This last experience was beyond horrible. Missed the 45 minute check in bag rule which by the way is ridiculous and they have a kiosk which they also shut down by 10 minutes. Unforeseen things do occur and that was the issue. I had my boarding pass and had paid for my check in bag on line. Staff is rude, no people skills and not willing to accommodate.I could have flown with my carry on but had to leave my check in behind. Rescheduled for first flight out at 7am but by the time I could get a rental car it was after 10pm and I had to be back by 5am. I stayed in airport all night. Everyone leaves at 11pm and do not come back until 4am. Horrible experience. Also they would not fly my bag out the next flight and refused ti hold it until a relative that lives there could pick it up.Their suggestion just leave it if I decided to catch that flight.

Marquette Sawyer International Airport (MQT) is a small regional airport in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that provides a convenient and stress-free travel experience. Located about 15 miles south of Marquette, it offers easy access to the area’s lakes, forests, and outdoor recreation spots. The airport primarily serves flights to major hubs like Chicago O’Hare and Minneapolis–St. Paul, making it a practical gateway for both residents and visitors connecting to national and international destinations.
Owen U — Google review
If you are flying American with needing to check a bag, you must get here for the morning flight 2hours before! Warning * ALL agents leave the front desk to go to the gate at 6am. Period. Does NOT matter if you checked in on the app the night before. Does NOT matter if you are TSA pre-check. Does NOT matter if you paid for your bag ahead of time. DO NOT follow your app checkin/leave for airport reminders. This airport is unlike most others. I travel for work for the past 8 years & have never had an experience like this. Despite paying for checking a bag or tsa precheck, none of it matters here. They will not accommodate you. 5 other guests & myself were not allowed to board. No one is at the counter to explain this to you. This airport needs to seriously change its routine. Its literally 25steps from counter to gate! It is unlike MOST airports, which causes a huge problem. But they seem to find it funny that you are now stuck here. Also, after 25 years, maybe they can get more than one flight in and one flight out at reasonable times!!! No otherwere available from Sunday until Tuesday. Disciplined by agents when they finally returned to the counter & also given the fine print paperwork other rules. 25 steps counter to gate. I'd consider giving ANY surrounding airport my money over Sawyer anyday & will do so going forward.
Amy — Google review
Tiny airport with minimal food options, but TSA agents are very friendly. Nice & clean. But be warned, the other reviews are correct - bag check in closes 45 minutes before take off as the staff moves to the gate for boarding. Don't cut it close if you have checked bags.

National car rental in the airport is great! I didn't fly, only rented a car. The staff were very friendly and helpful! Great car rental experience! It's so frustrating renting a car, they made it a pleasant experience!

Got two small children up at 4:30 for a 6:30 flight. Figured we'd have no trouble, because it's a small airport with few passengers for early flights--we were actually worried we'd get there before the staff. We weren't allowed to board because we arrived 40 minutes before takeoff instead of 45, meaning they wouldn't check our baggage. We had woken up our family, packed, loaded up the car, said goodbye for nothing. Had to change all of our travel plans for 5 minutes. Customer service was not sympathetic, we had to wait until the flight took off to attempt to rebook. We've also had problems with their overzealous TSA security in past, to the point where they wanted us to take out and unwrap decks of cards for being suspicious.
Mike R — Google review
Great line staff! Super helpful airport manager. Cheap av fuel easy to get to. They had a great crew car. Wonderful for GA traffic. No comment on delta traffic or there work here. Can't wait for other runways to be open.

Great little one gate airport. Rental car office is right there too. The small jet bridge is rather unique; not all small airports have such a thing.

I Love our local airport! 😎 The parking is always free, they have an extended stay lot as well. You won't get that convience in bigger cities. Great design inside and out with safety in mind. Plan your next get away with the fine folks at the Delta County Airport!
