Nelayan Mie Jaring

$$$$expensive
Dim sum restaurant
Nelayan Jala Jala Sun Plaza is a must-visit restaurant in Medan, located at Jalan K.H. Zainul Arifin No. 7 Sun Plaza Lt.3 C No.38-41. It offers an unbeatable menu of dim sum and a variety of Chinese food, seafood, and Indonesian dishes made from quality ingredients at affordable prices.
I do not know to explain it but this is the best dim sum I ever had. I think they made it with passion, love, and secret ingredients we never know. It filled fully with shrimp and chicken. If yall go to Medan, remember Nelayan.
Fauziah R — Google review
On a Wednesday evening, we dined at a popular Chinese restaurant located in a bustling shopping center in Medan. The restaurant was fairly crowded, adding to the lively atmosphere. We ordered the Peking duck, black pepper beef hotplate rice, and crab xiao long bao. Each dish was delicious, with authentic flavors that truly satisfied. Service was quick, though it felt a bit intrusive, with too many servers approaching to offer additional items while we were eating. The drink selection was limited to pre-packaged options, which was a bit of a letdown, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. Prices were on the higher side, but given the quality, they felt somewhat justified. Overall, this restaurant provides a great Chinese dining experience with quick service, though a bit more discretion from staff and a better drink selection would enhance the experience.
Muhammad A — Google review
Never taste fish fresh and sofft like this before, need to try their mongolian snow fish. Also there is nothing fail with their food and also they serve professional and fast
Pepperidge F — Google review
Everything is ok when it comes to food, a bit pricey. The service was also ok, though we preferred if the waiters / waitresses were not bombarding us with drinks, dimsums, etc. when we just seated and didn't have the chance to look for menu on the table. It was also weird that someone could come and disturb our dinner by offering a credit card. First time encountered this in any restaurants that were located in an upper class mall.
Nana S — Google review
Very nice food, dim sum and local delights. Clean and satisfied. They've many workers that serve superbly, so even though the queue might be long, you need not wait for too long
Choon W — Google review
Need to queue for empty table around 15-20 minute. Inside layout is very cramp with small gaps between tables. Food are ok, but slightly mediocre if compared how much they charged. Services is friendly but weird. You will get offered different types of food and can't order directly. 1 staff member will come to offer dimsum, you can order dimsum only. Then sushi, etc. 500k ish for 2 adults + 1 kid hardly justified. Better go to Kimukatsu or Sushi Hiro
Henry E — Google review
So delicious you guys! Nelayan is my favorite place to have some dimsum and their incomparable Seafood Fried Rice and Leng Hong Kien. I haven eaten a lot of their yummy foods since forever! Can’t even count. Never bored of their dimsum. Check out the price below. You should try this before you leave the earth lol🤣
Tommy J — Google review
Great varieties of dim sum, with affordable prices. Taste is very good. Yummy. Also, this place might be very good for you for a rookie on dimsum. everythings were good and delish

Jenny's Restaurant

$$$$affordable
Indonesian restaurant
Jenny's Restaurant is a charming and affordable dining spot located near Lake Toba, making it a highly recommended destination for weary travelers looking to unwind and savor delicious meals. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring both local Indonesian dishes and international cuisine. One of their standout specialties is the unique grilled fish, which has become a favorite among patrons. Known for its popularity, Jenny's can get quite busy any night of the week, attracting both domestic and foreign tourists.
Best baby lobsters of all the restaurants in Tuktuk and delicious kangkung. The baby lobsters were perfectly cooked and had the most meat. We went here twice during our 4 night stay!
Janet L — Google review
Thicc pancakes 🥞 and turgid chewy sate skewers makes for a jolly Jenny! Cozy little family run restaurant with a wide variety of western food, although the service is a little wanting. Serving size is hefty but taste is a sombre so-so. Love their variety of blended fruit juices, especially the tamarillo and avocado. Pricing is tourist range so cough up those millions!
Sam S — Google review
Good pizza at Jenny's, long wait for food and place with good atmosphere. We ordered 2 pizzas and a beer. The pizzas were a little small but tasted good and had a good amount of toppings. The service was quite slow, but the place was almost full. Consider going earlier rather than later as it gets full by 730pm.
Olivier G — Google review
Ok so we just finish our food here.. to get straight to the point.. food was 12 out of 10! We ordered grilled fish, satay ayam and shrimps balado. We shared these three meals + one rice by the two of us and we were full! So good/ big portions. All of these meals where super delicious. It’s a small restaurant and at time of writing it’s low season so restaurant wasn’t busy. Normally I look at places and when it’s busy it normally means it’s good. But as mentioned it’s low season so only one other table. So after reading some mix reviews we decided to give it a try and oh boy I’m happy we did. Yes, it took a while before we got our food. But he, you ( probably) are on holiday, so why the hurry? We had a beer, probably two before we got our food. The service was good, lady was friendly and recommended us the shrimp since they have different ways they cook it. All together. Lovely evening. Amazing food and nice service. We recommend to go here if you like good food! If you like fast food, maybe Mac Donald’s is more your thing. If you liked the food as we did, walk in to the kitchen and thank the chef, she will be happy with this small gesture 😊
Joel M — Google review
The most expensive item in the menu but it tastes so so only. The shelf is quite hard and they only cut the head open but not the rest of the body. It's a battle to finish this dish. The saus padang ala Jenny is not padang about it. It's on the sweet side. The wodden floor near steps is very shaky, it really effect my eating mood.
Jogetolo — Google review
Had dinner here on our first night, and already can’t wait to return. Cozy restaurant and their Beef Rendang is superb. Highly recommend! They also have a bbq which also looked amazing!
Phoebe T — Google review
Good food good ambience.. The peanut sauce for the gadogado salad was abit spicy for my taste bt was flavorful
Mariya A — Google review
Waited a bit before I got the menu as the staff are all busy behind the kitchen. Nice and quaint place. The grilled sour and sweet fish is probably the best. I like the chap chai - simple and well cooked, with little oil. The chicken soup was a little too salty for us. Overall nice place, need a little bit of more staffing and avoid the salty soup.

Mie Aceh Titi Bobrok

$$$$cheap
Noodle shop
Indonesian restaurant
Mie Aceh Titi Bobrok is a popular restaurant that has been serving its signature dish since 1996. Known for its flavorful and spicy Acehnese curried noodles, the eatery offers options of beef, chicken, or seafood toppings. The place is always bustling with food enthusiasts drawn to its enticing aroma and authentic spices. Despite its unassuming ambiance, this down-to-earth eatery guarantees a satisfying meal with generous portions of Mie Aceh prepared with aromatic curry.
The best Mie Aceh I’ve ever had! The flavor is perfectly balanced—not too spicy or runny. The portion size is generous, making it great value for money. Surprisingly, the price is similar to places with average taste. It would be even better if they accepted cashless payments!
Jochny R — Google review
This Titi Bobrok Aceh Noodles spot is always buzzing with people! And it's no wonder—it's delicious and super affordable. The flavors are spot on... spicy and bold with a real kick. If you're not too keen on spicy food, though, be a little cautious—there’s a surprise burst of chili that might catch you off guard! But trust me, it’s so tasty... you'll love it!
Anova F — Google review
We came during the Lebaran period and the shop was closed. When they finally reopened on 04-Apr-2025, it was packed, even at 3pm midday. Was told a full house during dinner is normal for this establishment. On to the food, there is nothing comparable. The noodles are in a league of their own. My wife who is a regular patron since her Uni days told me to take the wet version (basah) and it did not disappoint. We will definitely revisit when we come back to Medan City.

My kind of comfort food that always bring back college memories. Literally definition of "Ramah di Kantong, Ramah di Lidah" The spices here is quite spicy, I usually go for Mie Aceh Basah and Nasi goreng aceh which is very affordable and if you wish to go for the special one, I would recommend Mie Aceh SPC
Liwanto L — Google review
A standard food resto/stall which sells mie aceh, nasi goreng aceh, martabak and roti canai. The mie aceh is very tasty and a bit spicy from the spices.
Erica E — Google review
This restaurant is always busy full of mie Aceh fans. People said that you haven't visited Medan if not tasting menus of this cafe. You can order mie with many kind of additional mixes such as seafood, meat, innards with variety of spicy. Taste is very good.
Rekatours I — Google review
The best Mie Aceh I've ever tasted. The taste is just right, the portion also just enough. I ordered Mie Aceh with Shrimp and Squid. The shrimp was plenty. Even after I've finished all the noodles, there were still some shrimps left. I also ordered Roti Cane with condensed milk. It also tasted amazing. You can taste some kind of butter in Roti Cane. Really great. I've come here twice and it was always crowded. But no wonder, with this kind of great dish, people will always come here
Sandra M — Google review
This is one of medan most popular Mie Aceh you should try. Price are really affordable. You can mix and match the toppings : shrimps, calamari, beef and the most favorite here is crab.

Restoran Garuda medan

Padang restaurant
Restaurant
Restoran Garuda Medan is a popular spot for those who enjoy spicy Indonesian cuisine. It's known for its air-conditioned environment and excellent service, making it a comfortable place to savor authentic local dishes. As one of the oldest Padang restaurants in Indonesia, it has upheld high standards in both food quality and service. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Padang dishes and operates on a unique serving system where all menu items are brought to your table without needing to order ahead.
Quite expensive but the service is great
Umi D — Google review
Restoran Garuda is one of the oldest Padang Restaurants in Indonesia. Under tight supervision from its management, this restaurant has managed to maintain its standard service and food taste. Frankly speaking, I could still taste its delicacy and feel the cleanliness and comfort of the restaurant when having dinner at this place a week ago. It also provides visitors the smoking room and non-smoking room. Not to mention artistic gazebos in the back yard of the restaurant which are surrounded by beautiful flowers, making it so attractive and exotic. I recommend this restaurant for those who want to experience Padang food sensation.
Tan I — Google review
I would say that the food here is just average. You could have a whole spread of padang dishes from this restaurant but nothing taste extremely good or caught my taste bud. The price for the food is quite steep as well (as compared to other places that I have been to in Medan). Nevertheless, they provide a really good customer services and ambiance. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Hats off to the management for being able to train all of their staff really well. You could also choose from one of the three type seating offered: air condition/garden view/fan seating. Perhaps, they'll charge differently based on the choice of your seating. All in all, if you would like to enjoy a quite decent padang food with a good ambiance, here could be the right place for you.

The most delicious padang cuisine.

Good food and good service
Rosalind C — Google review
An authentic Padang Restaurant in Medan City, have many varieties of Padang Dishes,in this restaurant you will not need to order ahead but they will bring you all the menu that they have. The rules are if you take from 1 plate you need to finish otherwise it will count as 1 even you just take less than half. So remember to choose which food do you want to take. Beside mineral water you can choose some of the beverage, they will serve the dessert in the beginning when they start put all the food on your table. So please choose wisely and if you are on the budget you can ask the price of the food
Komang W — Google review
A place where you can get Padangnese style food. Good location for parking. The restaurant is big, had separate room for air conditioning, also place where you can enjoy man made nature area for dining, and main dining area which is non air conditioning.
Edward H — Google review
One of the branch of the Garuda Padang Restaurant chain. We have not tried any of the restaurant, although there is several in Jakarta. We found that the food taste is good, and properly served. Restaurant is clean, and the servers are prompt and welcoming. Unfortunately we came here from invitation, and therefore do not really know whether it is too expensive / to cheap to eat here.

Chinese noodle restaurant
If you're a noodle enthusiast visiting Medan, your culinary journey wouldn't be complete without a stop at Mie Tiong Sim. Established in 1940, this legendary eatery has become a beloved staple among locals and visitors alike. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Bakmi Tiong Sim, featuring soft handmade noodles generously topped with savory char siu and crispy pork lard that adds an irresistible crunch. You can also indulge in their delightful chicken noodles and wontons, which are equally satisfying.
I came here for dinner after a friend recommended it as one of the legendary noodle spots in Indonesia. I ordered the bakmi pangsit jumbo for around Rp83,000, and it was amazing, the taste truly lives up to its reputation. The service was quick, and the family running the place was so friendly. The old-school vibe of the restaurant really adds to its charm and makes it feel like a true legend. If you’re ever in Medan, this place is a must-try for any noodle lover!

I always miss the food here. The noodles and taste different like others pangsit noodles. The soup, pangsit (dumpling) was delicious and had lot of pork meat. With additional chili (cabai potong) it’s just right flavor. Price was bit pricey but for me it worth it for that taste.
Witness T — Google review
To my personal preference, its overpriced, overhyped, the quality is still good but, definitely not for repeat visit, the soup is suitable for mix with the noodle. The portion is small, jumbo price is the same pricing as with a very strong noodle brand at #1 elite mall in Kuala Lumpur with daily near full seating capacity.

Let's see How Tiong Sim Selat Panjang "Cheat Customer" with Rp 58.000/portion (picture attached) The environment, not to say, is very bad. Not only that, when this happen, the owner, with no guilty at all, argue that "This is standard" It depends on you whether readers still insist on this Mie Tiong Sim Selat Panjang as your choice or not with the high-end price they make, but if you want another option (some have been closed - Thien Sin & one on Semarang St) you may opt for "Mie Tiong Sim A Lai - Gandhi Street" for fair price & more condiments put.

Its interior is designed with a blend of classic and modern Mandarin elements, creating an exclusive and upscale ambiance. Situated within JW Marriott hotel, the restaurant boasts professional and friendly service, although it can be slow at times.
A very pleasant and impressive dining experience at Jade Restaurant. All the dishes recommended by Eddy were exactly what we wanted, especially the beef dish (forgot the name) and the hot and sour soup is the best. We were assisted very well and warmly. Thanks, Jade, for the hospitality!
Fenny E — Google review
This Chinese restaurant is situated within JW Marriott hotel. Nicely decorated with oriental furniture and felt spacious. Service is professional and friendly although a little slow. We came during weekday dinnertime and it was not busy at all. Would recommend the cod, their seafood bisque soup, and the jelly dessert. On the other hand avoid the jellyfish Salad as it was too tangy and the pieces a little too big. Food - 7 Service - 9 Vibe - 10 Price - $$$
Edwar K — Google review
Went here to celebrate a birthday and the preparation by the staff was really well done, they had prepared small pieces of cake for everyone(pictured) and had written a nice message. Since we had a big group we got a private room, the atmosphere was really nice and suited the theme of the place well. Other than that, the food was also good, especially the soup( pictured).

Love hongkong style steamed fish cod & also the scallop. The ambience is nice and very luxurious. Peking duck is out of stock. However, it is difficult to make reservation as noone is picking up the phone. We finally can get the phone of one of the staff, Pak Andhika but unfortunately the response is very slow. We made the reservation H-2 but it did not even reserve the seat for us. Hope it can be improved.
Roland P — Google review
Good setting, outstanding attentive service. Set menu was outstanding taste with a unique presentation. Unfortunately hard to have conversation with many kids running through the restaurant yelling. The food also did not come at at a good stagger. Some items in set menu (ie Taro ring) did miss the mark— but all in all I would Defintely return. 3 pax 2,5 Juta.
Brian H — Google review
5 star taste, presentation, and ambience 2 star services. We came on Sunday for a table of 3, early at 11am. Only 1 waiter present and the attitude was quite bad. She did not greet us and even spilled tea while pouring it without any effort to wipe it. So, we needed to ask for tissue and wiped it ourselves. Another waiter came to take our order after no waiter was around for 5 minutes. We were asking about the menu and the response was short and a little impolite. We gave up asking and just order what we wanted to. After we were done eating, the waiter just take the empty plate away without any notification and kind of interrupting us when we were laughing and exchanging our phones over the table. Overall, the service manner was not up to its reputation. Maybe we came too early and they were not awake yet? It’s 11 am though. The food was great! The main course and dimsum portion was generous. The presentation was very pretty, exactly the same with the pictures. I would come back again for the food and lowered my expectation for the services.

Certainly. Here’s a clear and fair 3-star review for RM Sinar Pagi, reflecting your experience: ⸻ ★★★☆☆ Good Food, But Watch Out During the Morning Rush The food at RM Sinar Pagi is decent, but the experience was frustrating. During the busy morning hours, the place gets extremely crowded with limited seating, and there’s no proper system in place. People end up sitting wherever they can, even at tables they haven’t paid for. Unfortunately, I got scammed into paying for others who had taken seats at my table without any clarification from the staff. It was chaotic, and I left feeling disappointed. If you’re planning to eat here, be cautious during peak hours and double-check your bill. The management really needs to improve the seating and payment system.

This soto has a rich of spice flavor and tangy taste. They will provide you with extras. Of course I will eat with perkedel and mix it inside of the soup. The shrimp cracker is using a fresh shrimp. The place could be hot during the day.

After 4 nights in Tuktuk I’m sorry to say that we only had our first meal here on our last night. The staff were friendly and the Indonesian food was great. Highly recommended are the Grilled fish with the andaliman (pepper) sauce and the rendang.
Pete M — Google review
I had the fried fish with tomato sauce and white rice. The fish was deliciously crispy. The service was good and friendly. Five stars!
Martin W — Google review
A casual place to eat with insanely big portions. The banana pancake was so unique and way too big for one person, I persisted and fell into a sugar coma. We were back the next day to try the potato randang and sweet and sour vegetables. The randang was the closest I’ve found to traditional randang so far in my trip, with lemongrass and whole spices throughout the thick pasty sauce, while it didn’t go super well with potatoes it did make for a nice vegetarian option. I’m sure the beef would be fantastic. The sweet and sour vegetables were your typical pineapple juice and ketchup sweet and sour (not a bad thing, but it’s nothing special). Nice chunks of pineapple and fresh vegetables made it a great sweet dish to balance out the spice and intensity of the randang. The two dishes which were incredibly cheap split between the two of us with a pot of tea and white rice filled us up so much we almost couldn’t finish it. I cannot express enough how large the portions are. It’s great. Service is slow, even when quiet, but that’s fine by me as the food is so fresh and there is only 1 or 2 people working at a time (both cooking and serving). Bring your computer and get some work done on the free Wi-Fi (code is on the front page of the menu) or chill out on the lounge chairs on the balcony. We stayed for hours working on our laptops. The staff are lovely and very accomodating, you’ll feel comfortable here as a foreigner, even if you’re a solo traveler. It’s usually quite quiet. I don’t have much experience with drinks here but the hot tea I’ve ordered has come with the sugar seperate which is great to get it to the sweetness level of your liking. To the owners, you have a gem here, keep it the way it is, it’s a fantastic place to eat.

Disappointed. One hour waiting for this "pork and vegetables tacos". Definetly they don't have enough staff. They didn't even clear the previous diner's plates when they brought us our food. And for an hour and a half, smoked by the cigarettes of the customer behind us.

One of the best restaurant in Samosir. We ate here 3 times in a row. Chicken Schnitzel and Chicken steak is number one! Big portions, good price, friendly staff! Recommended!

Wajir Seafood

$$$$affordable
Seafood restaurant
Wajir Seafood is a lively restaurant known for its unpretentious outdoor dining and traditional seafood specialties. It's a popular family dining spot in Medan, offering a variety of delicious seafood dishes such as Butter Fried Shrimp, Salted Egg Squid, Sweet and Sour Stone Crab, and more. The place is bustling with people craving fresh and scrumptious sea protein like the fried eel with green chili.
On a bustling Friday night, we dined at a seafood restaurant in Medan. The place was packed, creating a lively ambiance. We ordered tom yum, salted egg crab, and spicy clam sauce. Each dish was incredibly flavorful, showcasing well-balanced spices and freshness. The service was impressive, with our food arriving promptly, so we didn’t have to wait long. The restaurant has an open-air setup with limited seating, adding a relaxed vibe, though it may feel a bit crowded on busy nights. Parking is limited along the street, but the prices are affordable compared to other seafood spots in the area. Overall, this restaurant delivers excellent seafood with efficient service and affordable prices, perfect for those seeking great flavors in a casual setting.

Nice local seafood. Popular amongst tourists and, of course, the locals. Always crowded, especially weekends. Be prepared to q for your table. Recommend to make reservation. Reasonable price. They have 2 floors. Both floors are packed with diners. Service is fast. Despite having to wait.

Wajir Seafood Medan is definitely a must-visit spot for seafood lovers. The prices are very affordable, and the flavors are truly satisfying. Even though the restaurant is always crowded, it shows just how popular the place is among locals and visitors alike. During my visit, I tried several dishes including salted egg prawns, tom yum, steamed grouper, stir-fried bean sprouts with anchovies, claypot tofu, and fried calamari. Each dish was well-prepared, flavorful, and fresh — highlighting the kitchen’s consistency in serving delicious seafood. Although the queue can be long and guests have to wait with a number system, the service is surprisingly fast once you are seated. The lively atmosphere combined with tasty dishes makes Wajir Seafood a dining experience worth repeating.

Had dinner here on the last night before our flight back to Malaysia. Restaurant were fulled with people, but service was fast. We got our food within respectable amount of time. All good, staff and supervisor made sure our food and feeling is good. Affordable pricing. Huge respect for this restaurant and recommended to everyone to visit.

A famous seafood joint in Medan, frequented by locals. God there were so many people! Do check out their AC makan area at L1 instead of G floor, to avoid crowded and cramped spaces. The food is considerably above average, and cheap. Good dedicated praying areas too. Parking spaces outside the resto is packed tho

One of the oldest place for seafood in Medan. Came here to try for something off “Padang taste”. This place speed of delivery on all foods are top notch (they never missed any of your request). Please RESERVE FIRST, else you will be on a long waiting list (up to 1hr) for dinner especially during peak time for dinner and weekend. Food wise - average taste, but something new to try in Medan and its not spicy. Will come again.

A truly budget friendly with excellent restaurant. Must visit place for seafood lover for dinner after work before you go home. They serves the foods fast and you don’t have to wait the queue too long. Must try menus are their soft shell crab and salted egg shrimp.

This place is insanely crowded. The queue was super long. Luckily, our driver suggested it and booked a table for us, so we didn’t have to wait like everyone else. The food is all tasty and delicious, and portions are huge. A heads-up for Malaysians: if the menu says “Udang Butter,” don’t expect the egg-style butter prawns. It’s just prawns in butter, not the egg nest type. Learned that the hard way.

Small airport but very important for Caldera Toba Lake Geopark area. Direct flight from Jakarta. Easier and fastest way to Toba.

Spoken as Tobanese-Batak, this airport much help my family to visit Toba Lake and our homeland. Before Silangit was officially built as commercial airport, my family and i always flew from Jakarta to Medan, and from Medan to my homeland (Lintongnihuta and Tarutung), it took 7-9 hours, what a waste of time Talking about facilities and services, this airport is pretty small for "international airport". However, i love the way staff and crew treated us, not to mention that so many transportations provided for us to go elsewhere. Moreover, unlike Kuala Namu Airport, Silangit Airport are barely delaying its flight. Much love for it May this airport grow much better than before

Small airport but it's a nice place. When I was going back to Jakarta the plane was delay for 2 hours.

In this airport, they only have 2 airline which Airasia and Citilink. The airport quite small so u wont take many time to checking and move to your gate. Surrounding the airport theres some stores to buy gift and food. If you want to find "Meranti" medan specialty for gifts, you can get it in the airport store, infront the entrance or some store before to the airport. If u need to take cash theres ATM ; BCA, BNI, Mandiri, BRI, CIMB, Sumut Bank

A nice and quite new airport near Balige and Siborong-borong located at 1400m a.s.l. A very convenient access to Toba Lake on Balige side. Very close to a few nice tourism spots such as Huta Ginjang, Tarabunga Hills, Pangkodian, Lumban Bulbul and Sipinsur. Have a few coffee shops surrounding the airport complex.

This airport is located in North Sumatra. The locals called it Siborongborong or Silangit. Typical small airport. Only one way - Jakarta. The facilities and cafes are very limited, but just enough for breakfast. It's about 30 minutes from Balige. It's the closest airport when you visit Samosir Island, rather than driving for 3-4 hours to Medan. Whatever flight you booked, it's only one way to Jakarta, with no stop.

As an airport which serves as the main getaway to the nearby Lake Toba and also the surrounding areas, its facilities are pretty good and got friendly and helpful staffs. It has small waiting room, smoking room, free internet, playground for kids, nursery room, small coffe shop, and souvenir shop. And still on progress to serve better as an International airport.

I hope the renovation will be finished soon. I hope the transportation from outside and to the airport will be a lot of option. So the visitors can choose what price is suitable for them. Also, the local gouverment will seriously plan for the amazing travel/tourism spot arround toba and samosir.
