Nature & Parks
Rudaki Park, situated in the heart of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, is a meticulously designed public park surrounded by significant landmarks and structures. The park boasts fountains, sculptures, manicured lawns, and an array of vibrant flowers. It is home to the giant flagpole and a well-photographed sculpture of Rudaki with stunning views of the city's iconic buildings. This makes it an ideal spot for a summer outing.
A nice park. Vegetations are very well maintained. It’s clean too, like the rest of the city. It’s also quiet, not a lot of people out and about, but it’s serene—the best place to find some peacefulness.

Rudaki Park, also known as Боғи устод Рӯдакӣ, is a prominent and beautifully designed park located in the center of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Named after the famous Persian poet Rudaki, this park offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural significance. With its lush lawns, colorful flower beds, and well-paved walkways, it’s a favorite spot for both locals and tourists to unwind and enjoy the outdoors. The park features several fountains, adding to its tranquil atmosphere, and is home to monuments honoring historical figures, including a striking statue of Rudaki himself. The peaceful environment is ideal for a relaxing stroll, family gatherings, or simply sitting by the fountains. Rudaki Park’s central location and pleasant ambiance make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Dushanbe.

İt's a beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of Dushanbe. The park is well-maintained, with lush green spaces, colorful flower beds, and impressive fountains. The statue of Rudaki adds a cultural and historical touch, making it a great spot for both relaxation and sightseeing. Whether you want to take a leisurely walk, enjoy the fresh air, or simply admire the scenic views, this park is perfect. It’s especially stunning in the evening when the lights create a magical atmosphere. A must-visit if you're in Dushanbe!
Ahmad S — Google review
Rudaki Park was one of the highlights of my time in Dushanbe. Located in the heart of the city, it’s more than just a park. It’s a beautifully designed public space that blends nature, history, and culture all in one. As I walked through the wide, clean paths, I was surrounded by perfectly trimmed gardens, elegant fountains, and striking statues, including the impressive monument of Abu Abdallah Rudaki, whom the park is named. The park had a lively but relaxed atmosphere. Families, students, and tourists all shared the space, some sitting on benches enjoying the view, others taking pictures or simply passing through. What I really appreciated was how well-maintained everything was—it felt safe, welcoming, and full of pride. With the Presidential Palace nearby and views of the city’s beautiful architecture, Rudaki Park is not just a place to relax, but also a great spot to feel the cultural heart of Dushanbe. I highly recommend visiting, especially in the evening when the fountains light up and the air cools down, it’s truly magical.

The Monument of Ismail Samani in Dushanbe is stunning and symbolic. Surrounded by a beautiful park, it stands as a proud tribute to Tajik history. The design is impressive, especially when illuminated at night, making it one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Pizza restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Dushanbe, Bella Pizza & Pasta is a delightful culinary gem that beckons pizza lovers and pasta enthusiasts alike. This charming eatery offers an inviting atmosphere where you can savor some of the best New York-style pizza in town. Not only do they serve up delicious pizzas, but their burgers also come highly recommended, making it a versatile spot for various cravings.

Saba N — Google review
I ordered one "super family"-size mushroom pizza. Waiter objected on the grounds that I was solo (with the implication that it would be "impossible" for one person to eat the pizza in its entirety). After much back and forth, he relented and placed my order. As you can see, the radius of the "super family"-size pizza is the length of a standard fork))) The dough was fine except for the edges of two slices that were burned; I cut those burnt crusts off. At least the bottom of the pizza was not burnt. Unfortunately, the quantity of mushroom was small and insufficient; very stingy. Individual pieces of mushroom where not slices of a whole mushroom but bits of slices making for very small pieces. At least there was mozzarella cheese but the quantity again lagged (although not to the extent of the before-mentioned mushroom deficiency). I think Bella Pizza uses quality ingredients just that the quantity used of these ingredients is parsimonious. In short, for 132 somoni before service charge (10%), the customer gets oven-baked dough in the main. I would have preferred to have paid more money, say 185 somoni, and have gotten a pizza with more of the ingredients I would expect on a pizza. The "family"-size pizza is about the size of a standard pizza in New York or a large pizza in the Arabian Gulf. Bella Pizza apparently serves regular crust, not thin crust, pizza. [With respect to which type of crust, I am indifferent.] I waited about 20 minutes for the pizza. That was totally acceptable. There were no condiments on the table. I brought my own crushed red chili pepper and mix white/red/black peppercorns that I crushed and distributed on top of the pizza. I thought the ambiance was pleasant. I wanted a change from beef/lamb/chicken that I am eating in substantial quantities every day: beef/lamb at Tajiki and Afghani restaurants and lamb/chicken at Indian and Iranian restaurants. After this "pizza," suffice it to say, I shall just stick toTajiki/Afghani/Indian/Iranian restaurants and defer pizza till I am in a different country.

Delicious pizzas, and they serve a variety of foods. The atmosphere of the restaurant is terrific. I have been eating there and in their old restaurant for years and haven’t had any issues so far. On-site service and delivery are always efficient— good management of staff. It makes me happy that there are these sorts of places in Dushanbe where you can go and just enjoy your time.

Best New York-Style pizza in Dishanbe! The burgers are really good as well. Prices are fair, and the ambient is really cozy.
Filippo R — Google review
I would suggest to order only Pizza in this place. Guys have shifted to a spacious newer place, put their effort in design and the place is now cozy and neat. However salads, first dish and hamburgers were tasteless. Only Pizza made me satisfied to which i am rating 4 stars. This is my humble opinion, maybe others will like other varieties of food here but for me it is only Pizza.
Farrukh K — Google review
Pizza was good as before but ice cream 🍨 was so average and costly.

Restaurant
Rohat Teahouse, located near the Khoja Yakub Mosque in Dushanbe, is a popular spot known for its elegant oriental design and vibrant atmosphere. With its tall columns, decorative moldings, and beautifully painted walls and ceilings, it can accommodate up to 1000 guests at once. While it now functions more as a restaurant than a traditional teahouse, it still retains its stunning open structure and classical interior design.
We stopped here for lunch and it was great. The ambience and decor is lovely and most seating overlooks the street. The menu is extensive and has lots of options. The food was good and so we're the drinks (get a big pot of orange tea) The prices are a little higher here, but I think it's because of the location and popularity.
Paul A — Google review
This tea house serves authentic Taji food, we like the laghman, good noodles, just wish they served very hot instead of just warm. This is a very large space with high ceilings.
Jesse L — Google review
It is a lovely place and amazing architecture. So nice on a hot summer’s day; cool and relaxed sitting outside but high up sheltered from the sun. The food is ok but not amazing. The fresh bread is unfortunately brought to you dry and not warm. Everything else is so average. Staff are not so friendly.
Ati — Google review
Beautiful, friendly atmosphere. Nice breeze after the heath of the day. Food super tasty. We’re happy to have walked for 30’ passing by huge ministerial buildings!
Mariachiara S — Google review
This teahouse was a must-see for us as we have often frequented the tea house gifted to Boulder, Colorado from Dushanbe as part of a sister City exchange. We sat upstairs on the terrace and enjoyed the beautiful artwork decorating the walls, ceilings, and columns. You can also sit in a beautiful space downstairs filled with intricate carved and painted wood. We came later in the afternoon and they were out of many of the dishes but we did enjoy hot samsa and cold mint yogurt soup. We were surprised that for a tea house, they only served 2 kinds of tea. If your travels take you to Dushanbe, this is definitely worth the visit.
Anita D — Google review
I was a bit confused about the entrance of the restaurant as the building seems to be going through restoration. So make sure once you walking facing the stairs take a left and you will see some signs and the main door just walk in and grab a table. The building has an amazing architecture food was good and affordable! The staff was very accommodating with my basic Russian but they also have menu in English very helpful! I enjoy the laghman but the shashillik looked good too!
Virginia L — Google review
Great atmosphere, love the huge open air settings, as well as the traditional indoors area with intricate wood carvings and paintings. The Tajik food is one of the best we had - laghman and mastoba both very flavourful and hearty. We were there late morning where there isn't much crowd. Make sure you go to the indoors area to check out the traditional decor. English menu is available.
Shu Y — Google review
Good food. Beautiful mosaic in the ceiling. If you do not speak Tajik or Russian expect a few misunderstandings. Menu has English translation but it is not 100% correct. I ordered chicken but I still have no idea what it was I ate. It was not chicken for sure.

Dushanbe Zoo, also known as Dushanbe Zoological Park, was established in 1960 and is situated in the heart of Dushanbe, Tajikistan along the Luchob river bank near the Pamir Stadium. Spanning approximately twice the size of the stadium, this zoo is a popular attraction for families and wildlife enthusiasts. It is home to a diverse range of animals including tigers, lions, monkeys, birds, and several endangered species.
Everyone's whining for no reason. Perfect place to bring kids or if you just want to free your mind..
Suroosh S — Google review
The bear, lions, and wolves are in the smallest, inhospitable cages. A zoo this size cannot possibly care for such amazing animals. Please relocate or sell them to a larger zoo. It is painful to see their confinement. On a positive note, the birds, sheep, llamas and camels are lovely to look at.
Karen R — Google review
One of the Worst maintained zoo's I have come across although on the positive side they have a good collection of vultures and Bactrian camels.

PLEASE REPORT THIS ZOO FOR ANIMAL ABUSE. Videos are circling online of the abhorrent conditions these animals are living in. One video shows a bear screaming and clawing at bars trying to escape. DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE
Kirsten C — Google review
Do not go here and do not bring your children here!!! The animals are clearly suffering, in tiny cages and malnourished. Lions and bears are kept in cement-floored cages, multiple domestic dogs are kept in cages, animals are fed popcorn and sweets... A terrible place.
Marta — Google review
Feel bad for the poor animals. Camels are so skinny and unhealthy. Government needs to pay more attention to the zoo animals.
N O — Google review
the pets inside this place are kept in poor condition and i reckon how bad their diet is. the lion and the bears are almost very weak and they don't look fine at all. they need to close that place as soon as possible.

KFC is a fantastic spot for those craving fast food at reasonable prices, especially if you're not a local. While the cost of their double cheeseburger might be on the higher side compared to local diners' two-course lunches, it’s still worth trying. Their combo meals are quite popular and come with your choice of burger, crispy French fries, and a refreshing soda. Additionally, KFC offers pizzas for those looking to switch things up—though I haven't sampled them yet!
Great place to get fast food for a good price (not for locals though, for the price of the double cheeseburger one can get a two course lunch at local diners). Other than that everything is good. They have comboes that include your choice of burger, french fries and a soda. In addition to that they serve pizzas which I haven't tried. If you plan on stoping by get the double cheeseburger!

The service is not as one expects. I'm a coffee drinker and the coffee here is not good quality. the guys behind the counter need to improve their communication and customer service skills. I asked for a carry bag for my food and was told there is none. Salad options are not Fresh! Three times had salad and regretted, but the sales team were assuring me that it was made that very morning.

The food is not good. The chilcken soup was very much oily and watery. Also I ordered daal makhani which was burnt and had no Indian taste. Over all I can say doesn’t worth to visit
Mohammad J — Google review
Food is REALLY great. Creamy delicate portions cooked well with the right flavors and colors. We had the in house samosas and the lamb curry and tikka masala. Tandoor chicken was Smokey and rouge red as it should be. Our waitress was nice and spoke English BUT the restaurant could do more on atmosphere and decor which was muted. Also minus a point for the terrible red wine which is Aussie plonk at high prices and Georgian vinegar option. Almost guys almost… five stars could be yours with a bit of effort.

Ordered tomoto soup, butter nan and malai kofta. They served both at a time and not one by one. I said I need spicy. Tomoto soup was so sweet and looked like tomatoes were ground and brought the liquid soup for me. I just left it and it was a waste of money . Butter naan ok. Malai kofta also horrible and not at all tasty. I paid a total of 119 somony and total waste of money. I also visited the restaurant a day before and had hot and sour soup and it was good but so much excess oil. I also ate egg fried rice and the taste was excellent

Gastropub
Bar
Fine dining restaurant
If you're on the lookout for a unique dining experience in Dushanbe, 28 Monkeys Gastropub should be at the top of your list. This vibrant two-story establishment boasts high ceilings and an airy ambiance that invites social interaction. The decor is whimsically charming, featuring portraits of monkeys dressed as royalty, which adds a playful flair to your visit.
28 Monkeys Gastropub is a spacious, two-story restaurant with high ceilings and an open, airy feel. The second floor offers a great vantage point of the bar and main dining area below, giving the place a lively and social energy. The decor is fun and quirky, with portraits of monkeys dressed as kings and aristocrats—a playful touch that sets the tone for the experience. The menu is extensive, covering everything from soups and salads to grilled meats, pastas, and street food-inspired dishes. There’s also a full bar menu, though unfortunately, no wine was offered during my visit. The smoked chicken stood out, served barbecue-style with house-smoked chicken leg, a smooth mashed potato purée, and a bright chimichurri on top. While the chicken was slightly dry in texture, the flavor was rich and well-developed. The vegetable sides I ordered (cauliflower and string beans), on the other hand, were disappointing—overcooked and drenched in an orange mayo-based sauce that hid their limp, mushy texture. The steak with bone marrow was beautifully presented—sliced and fanned out with a pepper sauce that was just a touch too generous. Still, the meat was tender, flavorful, and satisfying. Service was friendly but relaxed. You might need to flag someone down, at least during lunch, but the staff is helpful and accommodating once engaged. If you’re not in a rush, the slower pace actually works well with the laid-back vibe of the place. All in all, 28 Monkeys delivers a fun setting, competent food, and a few standout dishes worth returning for. It’s not flawless, but it has charm and character—and sometimes, that’s enough (especially in Dushanbe).
Lawrence H — Google review
Among the most delightful experiences I had in Tajikistan, particularly if you have a fondness for cocktails, this establishment is certainly the right choice. The staff is exceptionally kind and helpful in assisting with food and drink selections. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and highly recommend a visit.
Reza F — Google review
This is a very trendy venue but it's completely dysfunctional. The 28 Monkeys are not the decoration on the walls; they are the staff, who have not been trained in basic customer service. We waited more than half an hour for 4 simple drinks despite more staff than I've ever seen in a restaurant and very few customers. No one came to apologise or explain. Ridiculously loud music for a Sunday night. It's a restaurant not Ibiza. This identity crisis extends to the light levels - it's too dark to read the menu without a light (even if you're under 40). We asked for a non-smoking area but were seated directly above the bar where people were smoking. Extensive menu not very vegetarian-friendly but not impossible. Once the food finally arrived it was good and well-presented, although extremely overpriced in comparison to the plethora of excellent restaurants in the immediate vicinity. At these prices I would have expected better English and actual napkins. Our evening deteriorated further when we said we didn't want to pay the 15% service charge and the manager had to be called. A lengthy discussion resulted in extreme awkwardness and being bullied into paying it anyway. Give this place a miss unless you want to increase your blood pressure waiting to be served and arguing about service charge.

Hidden Gem in Dushanbe – 28 Monkeys Restaurant If you’re in Dushanbe and looking for a memorable dining experience, 28 Monkeys is an absolute must-visit. This authentic restaurant truly stands out with its exceptional food, warm ambiance, and thoughtful details. The steak here was a standout—beautifully cooked, incredibly tender, and full of rich flavor. It practically melts in your mouth. The menu is diverse, offering a wide range of delicious options to suit every palate. From traditional dishes to modern takes, everything we tried was prepared with care and bursting with taste. One of the highlights was the homemade lemonade—refreshing, natural, and a perfect complement to the meal. It's small touches like this that make 28 Monkeys feel so special. Overall, 28 Monkeys offers a unique blend of authenticity, quality, and comfort. Highly recommended for both locals and travelers exploring the heart of Tajikistan’s capital.

An amazing place with delicious food! We loved it so much that we had dinner there twice during our one-week stay in Tajikistan. The cocktails were great, and the atmosphere was both cozy and exciting. They also offer hookah for those interested(the smoking and non-smoking areas are separated). One thing to note: when ordering a main dish, they ask about your preferred side, but keep in mind that sides are charged extra and come in large portions!

Nestled in the vibrant city of Dushanbe, Segafredo is a charming café that offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle. Known for its inviting atmosphere, this spot serves up an array of delicious coffee options alongside light bites that cater to various tastes. Whether you're looking to unwind with a book or catch up with friends, Segafredo provides the perfect backdrop.
I think this is the best cafe in dushanbe. This cafe serves best standard and high quality coffees and foods for tourists who can not try different kinds of traditional foods in journeys

Came for a coffee and a light snack and ended up staying an hour or so. The wait staff were very attentive and gracious enough to offer WiFi to me after realizing I was a tourist. I had their ice cream for desert and it was delicious.

We only had a drink, no food. Very friendly and great service 👍🏼
Ivonne S — Google review
Service was commendable, but the cuisine lacked flavor and could benefit from a touch of salt, red chili pepper flakes, or truffle oil. The freshly squeezed pomegranate juice stood out as a pleasant option. However, the prices at this establishment are on the higher side. While the patio setting is attractive, it can get a bit smoky.

Food was good. Service was good but a bit slow at first, I sat on the veranda and It took 15 minutes for staff to approach, I very almost left. This can be fixed by being more attentive of potential customers arriving and choosing to sit on the veranda instead of going inside (even if the veranda is empty) I have to question why the wine is so expensive? The glass of wine cost me the same as my main dish 55/56 Somoni respectively. Do you not have locally sourced, cheaper wines?
Kieran H — Google review
I don't understand the good reviews at all! It was unfortunately very disappointing and completely overpriced! The food was cold, very tasteless and the portions are very small. In addition, the pasta was undercooked (far from al dente). The service is beyond good. I had to wait almost an hour for the bill. Only the location is ok. Overall not recommended if you want to eat good Italian food.

Dushanbe Mall is a bustling shopping center with a wide range of offerings. It features modern and air-conditioned buses for transportation, although their punctuality can be inconsistent. The mall houses numerous shops selling clothing, shoes, and home goods, as well as a large supermarket with daily deals on various items. Visitors can also enjoy a diverse selection of restaurants offering delicious cuisine. Additionally, the presence of security guards at the entrance ensures safety for shoppers.
Dushanbe Mall (or it is called Ashan Mall also) is one of the best malls in Dushanbe. Few foreign clothing and shoes brands are also available here. There is a foodcourt on first floor which has more than 10 open restaurants. And of course, there is a huge Ashan supermarket
Rajeev K — Google review
Mall, lots of things there, but quite a depressive place, like most malls, very big supermarket, selling the universal junk, candies, pops, sweets and sugar everywhere, will create another society of sugar junkies and a new generation of obeses in Tadjikistan

Old mall, nothing much is over there apart from the old supermarket at the bottom. It has this post-communist vibe and is quite depressive.

Only big mall in dushanbe centre. Have cinema, food court and many shopping brands. Also have super market and mini zoo in basement . No parking issue . They have a good ice cream bar at the entrance of the mall.

Supermarket Ashan is good place for grocery shopping but lately they start to sell expired nuts. I shopped two days ago pistachio, almond and raisin the quality all of them extremely low. Please be aware and also I should like to inform management to take care on this existing issue. You can notice two different kind almonds but the price is not cheap.

Mehrgon Market in Dushanbe, Tajikistan is a modern replacement for the traditional bazaars that have closed down in recent years. It's a clean and beautiful market with both indoor and outdoor shops offering a variety of items including fresh produce, household goods, clothing, and souvenirs. While some find the prices to be a bit high, others appreciate the friendly staff and the opportunity to experience Tajik hospitality.
Walking into Mehrgon Market in Dushanbe was like stepping into a living tapestry of Tajik culture. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of life, from the rhythmic calls of vendors to the colorful displays of fresh fruits, nuts, spices, and traditional textiles. It felt less like a tourist attraction and more like an authentic window into daily life. What stood out most to me was the hospitality. Even though I was clearly a visitor, the sellers were friendly and welcoming, often offering samples or taking a moment to chat. The variety of local produce was impressive—pomegranates, dried apricots, and freshly baked bread filled the air with a warm, inviting aroma. Visiting Mehrgon Market wasn’t just about shopping. it was about connecting with a place and its people through sights, sounds, and flavors. It was a genuine and grounding experience that added so much depth to my time in Dushanbe.

As a tourist, it’s a great market to visit to see how the local shop. Plenty of Colors, products. Very clean place. No pushing. Some souvenir shop upstairs
Alain — Google review
A place with ancient smell and variety of offers. From spices to cheese and from dried fruit to fresh fruit and vegetables. In the second floor you may find souvenirs and traditional items. Prices you will get in the first answers are high, so you have to offer sellers half price. From the 3d floor you can make great photos.
Ibrahim D — Google review
I was relatively unimpressed as I went to the smaller building at first, and it’s dark and only mildly interesting. But the larger and main building, with its imperial and Doric columns, is so trippy! Having a market bunked in a lavish mall is a bit surreal. Like someone else says, vendors aren’t pushy. Not a ton of variety so wasn’t there long, but one sweet vendor gave me 5 apricots for free!
Jennifer S — Google review
The main market building is typical Soviet era. There are tons of fruit and veg stalls on the ground floor and they are willing to let you have a taste. Next floor are some bric a brac and clothes shops including some Soviet memorabilia and limited souvenirs. Next floor is half empty but there is a great cake shope where you can get a coffee and yummy cakes. Tonthe left of the building is a Jerry-build extension selling homeware etc. worth a couple of hours

Nice market, nice people. But I warn you to not buy any nuts on this market at the moment. We bought from different vendors and different types and all of them had worms inside! 🪱🤮 We ended up throwing away over $20 worth of nuts and are disgusted by the idea now.

The Haji Ya'qub Masjid in Dushanbe is a magnificent and significant religious site, as well as an architectural wonder. It stands as a tribute to Mawlana Yaqub-Charkhi, a 15th-century Sufi order sheikh. This beautiful mosque can accommodate up to 3000 worshippers and offers a serene atmosphere for spiritual reflection.
We paid a brief but enjoyable visit to the Haji Yaqub Mosque which is the main mosque in Dushanbe. It was named after Haji Yaqub, a historic Tajik religious leader. It is quite beautiful inside and imposing for the area around.

In a city that is changing rapidly, this mosque is an unchanging historical benchmark and an oasis of tranquility. The mosque is somewhat hidden behind modern apartment buildings on Rudaki Avenue, but is nevertheless easy to find and well worth a visit.

The National Museum of Tajikistan, established in 1934, is a spacious and modern museum located in Dushanbe. It offers a comprehensive exploration of the country's history, natural history, and art from ancient to contemporary times. The museum's diverse collections include ancient Buddha statues, archaeological finds, historical documents, and ethnographic items.
We visited the National Museum last year and were very impressed. My highlight was the vast statue of a sleeping Budha and the collection of precious minerals and stones of Tajikistan. The art exhibition was also very interesting. I definitely recommend to visit this museum.
R S — Google review
Much better than the other museum in town. There are 4 floors, each with a specific exhibition (ancient history, modern history, nature and art). And then....the ubiquitous propaganda of course. Ticket is 35 somoni (plus 20 for photos).
David R — Google review
The National Museum of Tajikistan shares several characteristics with other museums in the country. It starts with exhibits from ancient eras, often featuring maquettes of early humans. However, there are many replicas and copies, with only a few items giving a true sense of historical authenticity. Much of the history presented is heavily tied to Iran, making it feel more like a retelling of another country’s past rather than a deep dive into Tajikistan’s own heritage. Additionally, preservation methods for historical artifacts seem inadequate. That said, the building itself is impressive, and the staff and guides are very welcoming.
Niusha B — Google review
Entrance for a measly 35 somoni (though the cashier tried to then charge me 40 somoji when I asked about English translations). An excellent English-speaking young lady greets you upon entry. The ground floor has beautiful ceramics, I guess all recent bc there are no dates?! The first floor has many busts and some interesting textural pieces but the historical items in several rooms are of most interest. Unfortunately it seems this is where photos aren’t allowed?? Utterly ridiculous considering I have been to museums in 80+ countries and photos are OF COURSE allowed. There are room attendants that wander and monitor. Still, I took some photos and think a few of them might have known and didn’t care?! Very confusing. There’s also a circular room with gifts given to the president. Not very interesting save for the very centre of the room having the oldest historical items - beautiful gold jewellery and a crown- in the museum. Photos absolutely prohibited here and an attendant made sure of that. So taking off a whole two stars for that AND NO WESTERN TOILETS for ladies. Only squats 🤮🤮🤮🤮 gross. There are English translations for everything.

Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan, is home to the impressive Dushanbe Flagpole, one of the tallest free-standing flagpoles globally. Standing at a towering height of 165 meters, this monumental structure proudly displays Tajikistan's national flag, which measures 60 meters in length and weighs 420 kilograms.
One of the biggest flag poles in the world. It can be seen from most of the city. It is located in a very nice park with a lot of interesting things to see.
Felipe B — Google review
The surrounding park is clean and peaceful, though there’s not much to do besides sightseeing. Still, it’s a must-see if you’re visiting Dushanbe!
Mohammad J — Google review
One of the most striking landmarks I visited in Dushanbe was the Flagpole of Tajikistan, an awe-inspiring monument that proudly flies the national flag high above the city. Standing at 165 meters, it was once the tallest flagpole in the world, and even today, it remains among the tallest globally, a symbol of Tajikistan’s ambition, unity, and national identity. Located in Flagpole Park, near the Palace of Nations and the National Museum, the area surrounding the flagpole is beautifully landscaped and ideal for a relaxing stroll. As I stood beneath the massive flag, waving gracefully in the wind, I felt a sense of respect for the country’s journey and its cultural resilience. What made the visit even more powerful was how the flagpole is not just a piece of engineering—it’s a modern monument to independence. Whether you’re interested in national symbols, architecture, or just want a great panoramic view of Dushanbe, the flagpole is a must-see.

The State Flag Square of the Republic of Tajikistan is located in the central part of the city of Dushanbe, to the left of the Palace of Nations, on the left bank of the Dushanbinka River. The layout of the square (park) includes an artificial lake with a fountain, wide rectangular alleys with a cascade of fountains, small architectural sculptures depicting the historical forms of heroes of the past and the new building of the National Museum of Tajikistan. The entire territory of the square (park) is decorated with alleys and paths with benches in combination with carpet greenery, trees, flowers and ornamental shrubs. The construction of the flagpole began on November 24, 2010, when Tajikistan celebrated National Flag Day. The official opening took place on August 30, 2011 and was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the republic's independence, which was celebrated on September 9. The flagpole, built in Tajikistan, entered the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest flagpole in the world and remained so until September 2014, when a flagpole with a height of 170 meters was installed in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The corresponding certificate was presented to the President of Tajikistan by the representative of the Guinness Book of Records. The height of the flagpole was 165 m. The area of the flag is 1800 m², width - 30 m, length - 60 m, weight - 420 kg.

First place we visited in Dushanbe trying to find sim cards and a currency exchange. The (only?) currency exchange is on the right side and friendly enough. We bought sim cards at the store right in front of the main entrance. They were helpful and someone who spoke English came from another booth to assist. TCell works well in the city, but out of town at Hisor speeds are so slow that google maps won’t load properly. Znet is even worse (don’t bother buying this sim card). Best of all were the cheap fresh fruits for sale outside the mall (strawberries, cherries, peaches, mulberries, etc). We will gorge ourselves on these.

Merve Cafe is a bustling Turkish cafeteria popular among students and young locals. It offers a lively atmosphere and serves a variety of Turkish dishes such as kebabs, pizza, salads, French fries, cakes, and authentic Turkish breakfasts including feta with olives. The cafe is known for its good food but may not always have everything available on the menu at any given time.
Merve Coffee Restaurant offers a cozy and pleasant atmosphere, a really nice spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. The staff are present and ready to help, which is appreciated, though the service can be a bit on the slower side. As for the food, the quality was excellent across the board. We tried the Merve Special, which stood out with a solid 4.7/5. The Ali Nazik was also delicious. I'd rate it 4.5/5. For dessert, we had baklava and tulumba. The baklava was rich and satisfying (around 4.5/5), and the tulumba was sweet and crispy, about 4.3/5. Overall, despite the slightly slow service, the quality of the food and the comfortable setting make Merve Coffee Restaurant a place worth visiting, especially if you're in the mood for Turkish flavors and a laid-back dining experience.

A very large restaurant with a diverse menu and mid-to-high prices. The ambiance is quite nice. We visited during Ramadan for Iftar, as the restaurant only serves food during Iftar in this month. It was well-prepared for fasting guests, which was interesting to observe. However, we had a bad experience as well. There was a large Iftar set placed on the tables, and when we requested not to have it, the restaurant staff refused and insisted that we had to pay 89 Somoni just for the table and the Iftar set. This was disappointing. The food itself was average.

They serve good turkish food here. Food standard is not consistent. Spicy adana kebab was done well the first time I visited, sadly it wasnt great the second time I ordered. Dondurma is great, they serve in 3 scoops. Baklava is nice too, comes in 3 pcs per serving. Their toilet is at the basement, very clean and tidy. Try to get outdoor seating, it is quite warm inside the restaurant even though they added portable air cooler.

The wait staff seemed unhappy and lackadaisical in their service. We asked for someone to wipe our table and the servers kept telling us that the cleaning lady was going to come. We waited 10 minutes, then I decided to just use my wipes. We ordered kebabs. They came luke warm. Free bread was offered, it was stale. I saw a lot of people frequent this place and so I thought it was good; alas I was dead wrong. For good Turkish food try Safo or Çitir Usta near opera ballet.

Do yourself a favor and don’t eat here. Our experience was unpleasant. You will be charged outrageous prices (what’s considered expensive in Dushanbe) and will get dry croissants, warm coffee. We waited for our porridge for 70 minutes to which my husband already didn’t want it. Guess what? They brought it out, took it back and still wanted to charge us🤣 To top it off the owner of this place was right in front of us and didn’t want to get involved. The atmosphere (decor) is beautiful. For better suggestions on breakfast go to smallest cafes in town.

Very friendly and attentive staff. Willing to explain all the different cakes. Spoke English quite well. Nice decor for a nice coffee shop. Two cakes and a berry tea were very good. (Everything was sweet, but I don’t hold that against them because all cakes that we’ve had here in Dushanbe were excessively sweet.) I can’t speak for breakfast or other menu items, but for their desserts they deserve a good review.

Bukhara Restaurant is a highly recommended dining establishment in Dushanbe. The venue offers exceptional cuisine, delightful performances, and a warm and hospitable staff. However, it's worth noting that during busy periods, the kitchen may struggle to keep up with the high number of orders, resulting in some delays in serving meals.
Beyond expectations! One of the best nights my girlfriend and I had in Baku! The Tajik osh-palov was absolutely delicious. The lula kebab was average in quality, but still decent. The dance performance was beautiful, and the way the Iranian group was welcomed during the Nowruz celebration was truly heartwarming. Excellent service, polite staff, and a stunning atmosphere. ***If you’re planning to go for dinner, make sure to reserve a table in advance! We visited Bukhara on a weekday, so it was a bit quieter than usual, but that actually made for a more relaxed and pleasant vibe. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the highlight was definitely the live performances – a lovely touch that added cultural flavor and entertainment to the evening. The food quality was solid. We ordered a mixed meat platter, and it was both flavorful and generously portioned, definitely enough to share. I’d rate it around 4.1 out of 5. The staff were extremely kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. Their hospitality really stood out. Overall, Bukhara offers a great combination of atmosphere, good food, and friendly service. I’d definitely return. Maybe on a weekend next time to see it in full swing!

Nice show and average food, beware thoguh tbe best seats/tables are for groups of 6 or more. For the rest of us, you'll be behind a column .....and the dj/ customers dancing detracts from the show element quite a bit throughout the evening

Great food and service! Doesn’t discriminate foreigners and locals in billing unlike Bahari Ajam!

One's of the best restaurants in Dushanbe. With nice service and delicious 😋 food, and life music ( loud) show in the evening. Better book in advance as it is common to have full house even the middle of the week. The interior decorations are exquisite, and the main hall is amazing.

Steak house
Nestled in the heart of downtown Dushanbe, Steak House is a culinary gem that beckons meat lovers and food enthusiasts alike. This vibrant eatery specializes in classic steak dishes while also offering a delightful selection of local meat specialties. But that's not all—Steak House surprises diners with its sushi offerings, which have quickly become some of the most sought-after items on the menu.
Peppercorn steak was delicious! Service was great and the red wine was lovely. We came back twice on our holiday.

Went on a Friday night. Only four tables occupied. Service was poor as waitress was not available most of the time. Ordered appetizers, two Argentinian steaks, sausage, and a fourth meat plate. One of the Argentinian steak el was ok. The second was tough even though it was ordered medium. Bread ordered halfway through the meal but was served at the end.
Vince Y — Google review
Had the grilled trout and it was really fresh and grilled to perfection
Caroline S — Google review
We enjoyed our steaks, even though we had to send one back because it was way under the medium rare order. Many items on the menu are not available. Frustrating because you take time to chose something (no have) then choose something else (no have). Just mark it on the menu what’s available. Prices seem reasonable.

My favorite Dushanbe restaurant. As an American who has been in numerous steak restaurants in the US, this was a real find. Very good quality steaks at a great price. I also love how the menu is so varied, including Japanese dishes (sushi/shasimi/soups etc). My personal favorites: Filet Mignon/NY steak (with peppercorn sauce)/Tomahawk steak/Miso soup/Fish soup/Pike Sashimi/Rustic potatoes. Salads also good. The house wine is a totally acceptable table wine for $3.5. As a non-smoker, I do tend to come during the day when they aren't so busy. MasterCard accepted. Why pay $8 for a burger at other places when you can have a great steak here for $10? By the way, lots of options besides red meat. Treat yourself!

Really mind-blowing array of steaks available here. Must visit if you are in Dushanbe. 👍👍

Surprisingly good, both good and atmosphere. I will return. ————— I am updating this review and dropping two stars more than a year later. I do really enjoy this restaurant, but I just witnessed the owner sitting with a friend, blatantly smoking against city law and damaging the otherwise very nice environment of his restaurant. Obey the law and smoke outside...

The worst steak of my life. It was great before in early 2014, but recently, it's been rubbish. I ordered New York steak medium rare tonight and I got three slices of beef put on top of each other well done. Will never go back again.

Dushanbe International Airport

International airport
Airport
Dushanbe International Airport is a modern and efficient facility that serves as the main gateway to the city of Dushanbe. It offers direct flights to various major cities around the world, making it a convenient travel hub. The airport boasts a clean and spacious environment with friendly and helpful staff, providing a hassle-free check-in process. Travelers have praised its clear signage, cleanliness, and ease of navigation.
Be aware of scammers. First scam at baggage they will tell you have to pay for any extra gram of baggage etc. Especially Turkish Airline counters!!! The second scam is upstairs at passport control/stamp. She claims they are not seeing our check in to country in their computers/systems. Then asking another kind of paper from Ovir office other than your regular Ovir office registration. She keeps asking for stupid documents no tourists needed. After she saw we’re not falling for scam and I am making scene a man officer comes from behind the line and all the sudden every paper and problem gone and both passport check lady scared from that man and we got exit stamp🤷‍♂️. After passport control baggage check in guy came and got our $100 in passenger boarding bridge because there is no camera! Another baggage check in lady also waiting there to collect cash from another passenger. Turkish airline your staffs in Dushanbe is full of scam!!!

Dushanbe International Airport is probably one of the smallest international airports I’ve ever used. There are barely 1 or 2 small shops, and the duty-free section is tiny—sometimes it’s even closed if there’s a long gap between departure flights🛫. Don’t expect much in terms of food or shopping. But overall, the airport is clean, organized, and very quick to get through. Passport control and baggage claim are smooth and fast. Exiting the airport is super easy — you can grab a taxi right outside or take bus number 3A to get to the city center, which is very convenient and cheap. 🚌🚖 There’s not much to do if you have a long layover, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t work unless you have a local SIM, but for a short stop or transit, it’s totally fine.
Charchit J — Google review
Im surprised how this airport can have 4.1 stars. Worst airport ever seen. I arrived at 21:00, wanted to buy SIM card, telecompany stand was already closed. Wanted to use any of airports ATMs to withdraw money for taxi, all of them were out of order (airport staff on purpose disable them so taxi driver will drive me to ATM and add extra charges for road). Wanted to use airport wifi to order taxi, there are 3 wifis available, none of them works without Tajik passport. I went to airport security guy, asked why the internet is not working, he said of course its not working, its already late and at the night WIFI is turned off. And then he asked why do I need internet for ordering taxi if there are taxi drivers standing here and he guided me to the SCAM taxi drivers who are waiting at the exit to scam tourists. At the end I understood that there is taxi mafia working in hands together with airport staff and just went to the city on foot. First country where I had to walk on foot from airport to centre because of everyone trying to scam you.

I will never visit this country again. My Tajik friends from the United States recommend me to visit this country but I had a lawful experience in Tajikstan. People are very rude and disrespectful and if you have a little beard they look at you suspicious. Me and my friends were going to a lake and the police stopped us and asked us questions about where we live and why we were here even though we had our American passport and the recipe of where we were living despite all the documents the police took us to the police station and asked us to give them 4500 somoni for no reason. We told them that we will be contacting the US embassy and they immediately release us. Same story in the airport, they asked me for money and said my baggage has more weight even though it didn’t. Americans citizens please be aware when visiting this county.

Tajikistan dushanba international airport is the worst airport in the world, on August 04/08/2025 I had a flight to dubai I went to the airport 2 hours earlier. From the beginning they people who work there started asking for money. They took my phone and my passport and looked me in a room and told me that if I don't give them $600 dollars they will not let me get in the flight they keep pressurizing me after 1 hours I unfortunately endup giving them $570 dollars.

Unprofessional Police Conduct at Dushanbe Airport My son was traveling from Dushanbe to the USA with all proper documentation. Despite this, police officers at every checkpoint harassed him, demanding money. Eventually, they threatened to delay him enough to miss his flight unless he paid up. Under pressure, he was forced to pay $600. This is pure extortion. It's disgraceful that such corruption continues to thrive at an international airport. Tajik authorities must be held accountable for this abuse of power.

I had a very disappointing experience at Dushanbe Airport. The staff were extremely unprofessional — some were asking for money without any valid reason, and I witnessed them behaving very rudely toward passengers. This kind of conduct gives a bad image to the country and needs serious attention from the authorities.

Green House Hostel

4.5
(474)
Hostel
Greenhouse Hostel, situated in the southeastern part of Dushanbe, offers a relaxed atmosphere with comfortable dorms and private rooms. This casual hostel also provides a well-equipped kitchen, a garden, and breakfast for its guests. The friendly and helpful staff can assist visitors in purchasing gas canisters for camp stoves. The location is convenient, with nearby amenities such as a supermarket, Halyk bank (which allows cash withdrawals using international cards), and decent restaurants.
Budget hostel. It’s ok not fancy. but the vibe is there. People are willing to share, help, and give advice, which makes it feel more like a friendly traveler community than just a place to sleep.
Sara S — Google review
Big place, private room and dormitories available. Stayed one night in a private room and other nights in mixed dorm and female dorm. Private room was not so good, the table next to the bed was broken, the bathroom smelled terribly we had to keep the door open with AC on but still smelly. Dorms were fine but the cleanliness in general is not good. Although we met a lot of travelers and over landers here, there are different social areas like yard, terrace and.. so you can talk and enjoy conversations with travelers. Shared kitchen and washing machine available.
Tarane A — Google review
Good place to stay. Great to organise before or after the Pamir. Good kitchen and facilities. Have a basement for overfill. It is a bit of a haven for bike packers, as someone on foot I did feel out of place sometimes. Very social. The reception staff however appear uninterested and whilst knowledgeable about routes and information on the city, it did not feel like they cared to help.
Alis D — Google review
The hostel has a good vibe, but I don’t recommend staying here for two main reasons. First, the manager, Murat (the guy with the glasses). The worst part was his attitude when I booked a private Pamir Highway tour with other travelers, not through the tour recommended by the hostel. He insisted we use his expensive driver just because we stayed there, which is unfair. Murat was rude and intrusive, stalking us on WhatsApp and even contacting our private numbers whining about that. To top it off, his colleague gave me free early check-in since I arrived at 7am, but Murat got mad and charged me for two days instead. Had I known, I would have just rested on the couch since it was early morning. Second, and maybe worse, the kitchen has serious electrical issues - me and other travelers got electric shocks while cooking. This is dangerous and unacceptable. There are cheaper, better hostels nearby - think twice before booking, or if you do stay, be careful.
Davide L — Google review
The best thing about this hostel is the atmosphere—it’s a great place to meet incredible fellow travelers and serves as a hub for sharing experiences and planning trips across Central Asia. That said, the hostel itself leaves much to be desired. Despite knowing that blackouts are a common issue in Tajikistan, the management hasn’t made any effort to install a generator, not even for the common areas. On our first day, we arrived at 4 PM and had no electricity until 6:30 AM the next morning. That meant no air conditioning in mid-July, no way to charge our phones, and no possibility to cook in the communal kitchen. Even worse, the staff was completely unhelpful. They simply informed us of the outage without offering any explanation, apology, or compensation. Breakfast is not included in the price and must be purchased separately for 20 Somoni (about $2). While this isn’t expensive, it’s more about the attitude—some basic gestures would go a long way in making guests feel welcome. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but there was a terrible sewage smell coming from the bathroom. The location is generally good. However, the information provided at reception was inaccurate: they told us a shared taxi to Khujand would cost 200–250 Somoni per person, but we found one for 180 without even bargaining. In general, the reception staff lacks the communication skills needed to support travelers. It feels like they do the bare minimum while relying on guests to support each other and keep the travel community alive.
Michele M — Google review
A place with the good vibes. A lot of backpackers. The staff ist very useful, an option with the breakfast and washing/laundry. A good reason if you want to the Pamir Highway explore.
Tobiasz K — Google review
Great place to meet fellow travelers, especially those heading towards the Pamir Highway. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the hostel is a real hub for backpackers — whether you’re doing the Pamir or just passing through. You can print out lists (10 TJS) and do laundry for 15 TJS per load, which is super convenient. That said, there are a few things to be aware of. The air conditioning in the dorm rooms doesn’t work very well — in July it was uncomfortably hot at night. Toilet paper isn’t restocked automatically; you have to ask for it daily. The water pressure in the shower is quite weak on cold settings and only decent at 38°C, which isn’t ideal when it’s 40°C outside. The towels provided are made from a strange fleece-like material that absorbs water from your skin rather than drying it — not the best. Despite the flaws, I still recommend this place. It’s affordable, social, and overall a good value for money.
Adam L — Google review
Arrived and there was no electricity (4pm until 6:30am the next morning). No apologies, no explanations, and they charged the full amount for the night. Breakfast is not included in the price. Had a private bedroom, the bathroom smelled like rotten eggs, even with the door closed, and the sink’s tap came off. The staff are not willing nor able to help travelers, they literally tell you to “look it up on the internet” or “go to the station and ask”. What really makes this place is the nice travelers, but we rate the hostel unfortunately. Having a hostel is not mandatory, and if you choose to do so, then do it with love and care. Travelers go miles to see your country, please appreciate it and try to help us. Would you be happy with your service if you were abroad?

Al Sham Restaurant in Dushanbe offers a delightful dining experience with its Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine. Located in a quiet area of northern Dushanbe, the restaurant provides a peaceful retreat from the bustling city center.
Probably one of the best restaurants in all of Dushanbe! Excellent Middle Eastern cuisine with a wide selection of vegetarian options and a Syrian chef who has an eye for detail and provides great flavour. Highly recommended!

Great restaurant if you want to enjoy some grilled meat! Everything we got was very well seasoned and deliciously tender. The chef of the restaurant is Syrian and you can definitely tell he brought the best from Syrian cuisine here to Tajikistan. The staff was also very friendly and respectful to us, we really felt like guests. If you are graving some meat this is definitely one of the best spots in the city to get it! P.s. they also serve delicious Tajikistan red wine

The best meal I had in Tajikistan! Waiters were all good at speaking English and introduced all the dishes. All the dishes were perfect, and the iced tea surprised me! My friends and I tried many vegan / vegetarian dishes, such as tabouleh, dolmas (not on the menu), fattoush, falafels, babaganoush, falafel sandwichs, hummus with pitas, grilled vegetables, vegetarian tajine, etc. Every dish was fresh, delicious and prepared with lots of care. Italian restaurant
Il Patio has carved out a niche for itself in the vibrant dining scene of Dushanbe, becoming a go-to spot for those craving authentic Italian cuisine. This charming restaurant is tucked away on a picturesque tree-lined street, offering a spacious and modern ambiance that invites guests to relax and enjoy their meals. While pasta dishes receive high praise from locals as some of the best in town, the pizza options have garnered mixed reviews—if you're specifically after pizza perfection, Bella might be your better bet.
If you’re craving some delicious Italian food this is the spot to go! We devoured every single dish and could’ve had more if we were so full! Definitely will be coming back before we leave

I went here after craving some western food. I found it odd that an Italian-named restaurant also had a Sushi menu. Anyway, while the food was good, the waiters were difficult to get a hold of to take the order and get the bill. I found this was quite common around here. Certainly not a bad place, just don’t expect too much.
Andy M — Google review
The best thing about Il Patio is the decor and atmosphere. Nestled down a tree lined street off Rusaki the restaurant is spacious and fresh with modern decor and even Italian audio lessons while you use the bathroom. Service is reasonable and prices a little high. Menus are bright and well designed and they even have an Asian menu (so typical Italian then 😞) However, the food does not live up to the expectations. A basic insalata caprese was expensive with mozzarella a but tough and tomato hardly fresh. Now for the pasta - brutto. Come on guys using freeze dried store bought pasta and charging high prices for it is bad. Carbonara was watery with cream and sandwich ham. A far cry from egg based pasta, pancetta etc The Arabiata was swimming in sauce without flavour and the pasta old. Will visit again for the decor and let my kids try the pizza. Wish the restaurant would let me in that kitchen to show the cooks how to make an authentic Italian pasta!!

Giving this a two-star because the place and the staff was nice but the food was very disappointing. The steak was under-seasoned, and had a slightly sour taste which worried me because I’m still recovering from food poisoning. The meat was not good at all, parts of it were cooked but the rest had a very raw texture and the fat itself was very chewy and had an aftertaste as well. I was still charged the full amount + 12% tax despite me expressing I wasn’t happy with the food. Would not recommend getting the steak. Maybe the other food is better.

The food was mediocre, we had two salads (burrata cheese and eggplant salad), both were just okay. I mean it’s hard to mess up a salad. One of us got the bean soup which also was just okay. Didn’t try the main dishes since the service was terrible. The service again was terrible. The guy was clearly not there to help us (Shokhruh). Let me start with saying that it wasn’t busy at all, we were the only customers there so there’s no excuse for ignoring us and not checking up if we want something to be ordered or refilled. If I could give 0 starts, I would! The atmosphere is the only thing that saved this place. We sat by the water and it was quite nice. The restaurant itself is pretty but it doesn’t quite compensate for poor service and mediocre food.

Originally I gave it five stars but it kept sinking with each visit Issues with handwritten bills not uncommon Takes no 💳 Food is all right but inferior to Ошхонаи миллии "Боғи шамол" round the corner. Lousy waiters, forget orders and it takes ages to get beers and food 15 per cent added to the bill for 'service' Sitting inside is insufferable because of ghastly loud music. The wretched place has the air of a kishlak disco. The lake view is still not too bad

Such great food! I had their best steak and it was so delicious. Much better than what I was getting elsewhere. The atmosphere there is superb as well. The best view for a restaurant in Dushanbe.

Beautiful view of the Кӯли ҷавонон lake. Excellent food. Service was a bit slow, and they didn't seem to know everything about the food. Also the menu is only in Russian. For five stars, please have the menu in the NATIONAL LANGUAGE, TAJIK, and also in English!

The Botanical Garden in Dushanbe is a peaceful and well-kept sanctuary that showcases an impressive array of plants and trees from various corners of the globe. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely walk, a family picnic, or simply basking in the serene surroundings. The garden features well-maintained paths, ancient trees providing ample shade, and even a charming pond. Nature enthusiasts will find delight in exploring the diverse collection of flora on display here.
During Nowruz, ceremonies are held in this park. In the days leading up to the celebrations, young people gather here to practice group dances in colorful costumes. There is also a birdwatching spot where you can observe urban bird species. Additionally, a few peacocks are kept in the park, and visitors can see them up close. The entrance fee for us as tourists was 5 Somoni. The park itself is large and beautiful, offering a pleasant environment to explore.

Nice little garden with peacocks in few places. We also saw a wedding coming into the garden. The guided tour inside of a traditional house was interesting.

During my trip to Dushanbe, one of the most memorable and peaceful experiences I had was visiting the Botanical Garden. Tucked away from the city’s noise, it felt like stepping into a quiet oasis. As I walked through the garden, I was surrounded by towering trees, blooming flowers, and the soothing sound of birdsong. Some paths were shaded and cool, perfect for a slow stroll, while others opened up to wide green spaces ideal for just sitting and taking it all in. What really stood out to me was the diversity of plant life. There were species I had never seen before, each labeled and well cared for. It was clear the garden is loved by both locals and visitors alike; I saw families enjoying picnics, couples taking photos, and elderly people just enjoying the fresh air. For anyone visiting Dushanbe, I highly recommend stopping by. Whether you're a nature lover or just looking for a calm, beautiful place to unwind, the Botanical Garden is a perfect spot to reconnect with nature and appreciate the quiet side of the city.

The Botanical Garden (Боғи гиёҳшиносӣ) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, is a lush sanctuary of greenery and a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. Spanning over 40 hectares, the garden showcases a wide variety of native and exotic plant species from across Central Asia and beyond. Established in the mid-20th century, it serves as both a research center for botanists and a relaxing retreat for nature lovers. The garden features beautiful landscapes with well-maintained walking paths, serene ponds, and thematic sections like rose gardens and arboretums. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, ideal for picnics or leisurely strolls, while appreciating the vibrant flora. The Botanical Garden also plays a crucial role in plant conservation and environmental education. Its combination of natural beauty and scientific importance makes it a must-visit destination for those looking to explore Tajikistan’s ecological diversity or simply escape the bustle of the city.

The Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (Gods "Iram") is located in the northern part of the left bank of the Varzob River, in the square of Karimov, Said Nosirov streets, Rudaki and Hafiz Sherozi avenues. The area of the garden reaches 40 hectares. The main entrance to the garden is in the eastern part. The alley leads to a glass greenhouse, from where the alleys and paths of the botanical garden originate. The glass (cone-shaped) greenhouse is located at the end of the central alley of the garden. The territory of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan is located in the northern part of the Botanical Garden. The botanical garden was created in Dushanbe in the middle of 1933 by Professor Fedchenko B.A. heading during this period, the sector of botany of the Tajik base of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (since 1951, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan) on an area of 34 hectares. At the entrance to the garden grow samples of trees planted by the first employees of the Institute of Botany in the mid-1930s. After the formation of the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR (1951), greenhouses were built on the territory of the garden in the 1960s for the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR. The botanical garden contains samples of trees and shrubs from almost all over the world, many of which have already entered the Red Book of Nature.

Navruz Palace

Cultural center
In the heart of Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital city, lies the captivating Navruz Palace. This cultural gem pays homage to the country's rich heritage and serves as a symbol of national identity, particularly celebrating the significant Navruz festival. Originally intended as a teahouse, it was transformed into a grand palace during construction due to its stunning interior crafted by artisans from across Tajikistan. The palace now hosts official government meetings and international conferences in its opulent rooms.
The building is not old, but it is very beautiful and impressive. The entrance fee to visit the inside of the palace is 70 Somoni, while the exterior is freely accessible. The courtyard behind the palace, called Nowruz, is stunning. It features several arches depicting important literary and political figures of Tajikistan.

We took taxi here , but we were not allowed to visit inside as there’s vip function on the day so we explore the lake and gardens nearby , it’s lovely architecture building
Kenkeh H — Google review
This incredible building is MASSIVE and gorgeous. I literally can’t explain the scope well enough in words. I went today and walked all around and couldn’t figure out how to get in save for 2 restaurants. There seemed to be no other entry. Under the main stairs there’s a hilarious sculptured collection of wildlife.

Kokhi Navruz is an architectural masterpiece with magnificent design. The building features several halls, each with its own unique purpose and intricate details, which the guide explains thoroughly—including the materials used, their functions, and the associated protocols. Despite its traditional appearance, it was built less than ten years ago, funded by Tajik businessmen to celebrate Persian and Tajik heritage.
Niusha B — Google review
Navruz Palace is absolutely beautiful. The details inside are incredible, from the carved wood to the chandeliers, everything feels very grand. It’s not just a palace, it feels like a work of art. Walking through the halls gives you a real sense of Tajik culture and craftsmanship. A place worth visiting if you are in Dushanbe.

Amazing palace with so many cool things to see around! Go there for a walk, it’s really cool
Giacomo — Google review
I am giving Navruz an average rating mostly because of my experience not the place itself which looks impressive (although I couldn’t see inside). I went as a solo person and the guide said I could not enter unless with a group. There were no people around (I arrived at 10 AM) so all I could do was either eat at the tea house (which wasn’t really open yet) or just walk around the surroundings. The building is grand and impressive, it looks like a beautiful place. And the setting by the lake (next to the Hyatt Regency) is probably nice for evening walks. I would suggest verifying if it’s open before you go because it seems like they don’t keep routine hours.

Had very high expectations for this new restaurant in Dushanbe. Their design is beautiful, and I can tell they spend considerable resources on that. However, the problems started when we wanted to order, and half the dishes were sold out (Sunday early evening). Also they have a very limited wine list, but that is not uncommon here. I was greatly disappointed with our main course - the beef ribs - which were more like an expensive version of gusht birjon that my mother-in-law makes. In fact she made fun of us when we brought home the leftovers - "you went to restaurant to eat that?". Third source of disappointment was that we received our side dish after we had finished the main course. The cherry on the cake was the shisha guy who wanted to charge us for another shisha when we said we didn't like the one he brought - it is standard practice in Dushanbe to change it free of charge for good customers (we ordered a lot), especially being a new restaurant who should be trying to get more happy customers. Overall, I give you guys 2 out of 5 starts. Well done for the effort, but sorry, not good enough.

Nestled on a serene back street in northern Dushanbe, Cafe Chatr is a hidden gem that’s just a short stroll from the bustling Rudaki Avenue. Accessible via the #3 shared taxi for only 5 Somoni, this charming cafe stands out not just for its cozy ambiance but also for its noble mission. Operated by a non-profit organization, it plays an essential role in supporting vulnerable local women, making every visit here feel meaningful.
Visited this lovely cafe last November with friends before wrapping up my tour in Tajikistan, and I can't help but share my experience! Tucked away in a residential block, this spot feels like a hidden gem. I ordered a variety of treats including a delicious Russian crepe, a rich latte, a refreshing mojito, and some delightful pistachio gelato. Everything was fantastic, but what truly stood out was the calming ambiance. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Restaurant
Izyum is a must-visit dining destination in Dushanbe, renowned for its exceptional Middle Eastern cuisine. This restaurant has become a favorite among expats, thanks to its friendly and attentive staff who are proficient in English. The menu features an impressive selection of authentic dishes crafted by a talented Yemeni chef, including the delicious lamb Mandi rice that many rave about. Guests can enjoy generous portions served in an inviting atmosphere adorned with stunning decor.
Easily the best restaurant in Dushanbe. A wide variety of Middle Eastern dishes of a superb quality. Very popular with expats. The waiters are all very friendly and attentive, and know some English. English is also available on the menu. The waiters even remember your order, if you come often. There’s also a good lunch buffet in the side-restaurant. Both venues accept credit cards. There used to be an issue where they raised the prices, but it wasn’t reflected on the electronic menu. This has since been fixed with the new print menus, and all the prices are now all correct, so complaints about this may now be disregarded. The owner is also very friendly, and the place is one of the only restaurants in Dushanbe open late (until 2 AM) that serves good quality food. They’re also open on Sundays! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Visitors appreciate the diverse facilities available at Siyoma Mall that cater to different interests.
It has changed since I last shared some photos and reviews on March 8th. There are more facilities.

Last night at Dushanbe and we went here by taxi for last minute shopping , we had KFC and pizza from the food court here for dinner . Nice mall , I really like the Napoleon cake from Arka here
Kenkeh H — Google review
A very spacious ambient mall providing supermarket food court and also play areas also provides theatre 🎭

This is second big mall in dushanbe but far from centre . Almost all brands have shops here. Like LC waiki, Galos, volna and in food could you can find fast food and well as local food.

Good for whole family outing time.

I went all the way from city centre to this mall, nothing!!! Waste of time. Dushanbe Mall much better and in the centre.

In this place we don't recommend to eat anything because the menu and real food doesn't match each other. The price is high, you pay for ads only. Especially pizza is very small we bought the biggest size but unfortunately they brought us funny size pizza. Service is not that level which demanded to be paid for.
ATK O — Google review
Far from this pictures and has only few shops

Nestled beside Public, Bundes Bar BNDS is a vibrant and contemporary German-themed bar that attracts both locals and visitors. With its eclectic decor reminiscent of trendy spots in major cities like New York or London, this bar offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for socializing. Open from noon until 11 PM, it buzzes with energy throughout the day, especially during happy hour from 8 to 10 PM.
A great place to be. Great and friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and staff. Delicious food and splendid desserts. Ask for Farzina - she will give you the Recommendations!

Awesome atmosphere. Eclectic design elements that are hard to describe. Good food but a little pricy compared to other local places. Definitely try the tomahawk steak but order it one step rarer than you prefer. Also try the beer plate. It’s an appetizer sampler platter for 4 or 6 people.

I think this is one of the best modern bars&restaurants in Dushanbe. Very interesting desind mixed with BBC animal documenataires. Sometimes life DJ

Great bar in Dushanbe. Nice selection of beer and drinks. Great interior and atmosphere.

We ordered a set for two persons, some fried cheese, a bit of sausages, onion rings and chips.. it was extremely salty and greasy. Beer is very expensive and lemonade was diluted with traces of lemon. Toilet was nice however and waitress speaks English

National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan

4.5
(304)
Museum
The National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan is a treasure trove of ancient civilization, prehistoric artifacts, and cultural heritage. It showcases the rich history of Tajikistan, from Greco-Bactrian sites to Sogdian murals and rare small ivory images of Alexander. One of its most stunning exhibits is a 14-meter long statue of a sleeping Buddha dating back to the Kushan era, unearthed in the Adjina Tepe hills.
It was amazing and informative visit. You will find their Hindu Gods sculptures and Tajikistan history related to Zoroastrianism.
Himanshu S — Google review
What a beautiful place, very detailed and it gives you a good view on the history of Tajikistan
Parsa M — Google review
A rudimentary little museum that can be taken in in about an hour, or with a local guide for longer. It seems the Tajiks are still trying to figure out the tourism thing, as not everything is translated and there are few signs detailing what you’re looking at. But the history is real and the artifacts are thought provoking. Also, they only accept local credit cards for payment, another sign of the tourism growing pains, so bring cash. Definitely worth the price. The museum is home to the world’s largest sleeping Buddha, which unfortunately was cut into 92 pieces when discovered for easier transport, then reassembled. A good education in Hellenistic conquest, too. It’s amazing how far east Alexander made it.
Jonathan P — Google review
The National Museum of Antiquities gets an unfair write up in the Lonely Planet Guide (2018). Sure its a little dated and the floors are a bit of a tripping hazard! But the contents of the museum are incredible. Artefacts ranging from the times of the stone age, Alexander the Great, pre Islamic period, Genghis Khan. Tajikistan is so rich in history and cultural influences of all the silk road travellers are seen through pottery, tools, textiles, sculptures and artworks. We were blessed to have our guide Adiba give a super passionate 1 hour tour across the two floors. But even without a guide there is enough signage in Tajik, Russian and English. If you are a history nerd you will love this place, especially its large gallery of Hellenic period artefacts which is an era I am especially interested in. The top floor also houses an impressive reclining Buddha statue. You get a pair of plastic shoe covers on the way in. Toilets are free. Could easily spend an hour here. I hope the new edition of Lonely Planet due out Nov 2025 gives a better review for this lovely little museum as it deserves to see more tourists.

The best way to get extra ordinary impressions from Dushanbe city. Every tourist has to visit this museum. Recommendation!!
Dilshodkhon D — Google review
A very cosy and beautiful Museum with some fascinating objects. Do not forget that Alexandria Eschati (Αλεξάνδρεια η Εσχάτη-Alexandria the farthest) was built in Tajikistan (Northern part of Tajikistan, Ferghana Valley) and the area was part of the great Greco-Bactrian Kingdom after the death of Alexander the Great. For that reason, you can see some Greek inspired (probably from a Greek workshop/sculptor) idols. There is a small idol showing Marsha’s playing diavlos (δίαυλος) dedicated to the river Oxus (Amu Darya) where the famous Alexandria Oxiana (Αλεξάνδρα η επι τωι Όξωι) stood with the following inscription in Greek: ΕΥΧΗΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕΝ ΑΤΡΩCOKIC ΟΞΩΙ Translation : (not Greek name, probably local Bactrian) dedicated this as a wish to the Oxus river. Also, don’t miss to see some of the ruins of the Oxus temple ! Enjoy!

Our group of 10 had a guide and we toured one hour. Nice to see the original reclining buddha. Small enough with variety of pieces to see in a short time. The national museum of Tajikstan was much larger with more pieces if you have time to do that also.
Lisa W — Google review
Very poor indeed and 50 Somoni too vs 35 Somoni for the National Museum. There was nothing of any value in the entire complex and I dispute the authenticity of most of the items that would have potential value. No real information, with bits of used polystyrene for securing the bits and pieces. Honestly overpriced and pointless when the National Museum has the same selection and more. 2/5 is generous.

Bro Burger Dushanbe is a popular spot known for its respect and inclusivity towards customers with disabilities. The burgers are highly praised for their delicious taste and generous portions, although some find them slightly overpriced. The Bro double patty burger is particularly recommended for its juicy patties and well-balanced flavors. Additionally, the cheeseburger with deep-fried cheese curd and the potato wedges with garlic sauce come highly recommended.
Had the bro double patty burger. The patties were juicy and the porruon was huge. The buns were nicely toasted and the flavour didn't overwhelm the taste of the meat. One of the best ive eaten !

The burgers are badass, served with a fresh piece of cucumber and a kitchen knife stuck in'em, look delicious and taste the same. One of the best burgers in the city for sure. Kinda overpriced though, I agree, but pretty decent amount of meat and fresh salads, and that smile of that pretty blue-eyed girl ... dayum!
Azim S — Google review
Bro Burger has the best cheeseburger in Dushanbe. Putting a deep fried cheese curd on a perfectly seasoned burger can’t be beat. Also highly recommend their potato wedges with garlic sauce.
Laura S — Google review
An alright burger, decent amount of meat. Weird sauce but not too bad. What really bothered me was how I got overcharged for burgers that were never delivered as well as one burger simply missing from set of three. I guess it just vanished into a thin air...
Umi B — Google review
I would give them six stars if I could because they show respect for my friend who has cerebral palsy, and treat him just as they would treat anyone else (and I don't mean when he's with me: he discovered this place before I did when it first opened). Respect for those with disabilities is not guaranteed in this city: my friend is often advised of being drunk ☹️.

If you're on the hunt for a mouthwatering burger experience, look no further than Café BBQ Burger! Just a short stroll from the bustling Opera House, this lively spot is always buzzing with energy and offers an impressive selection of juicy burgers that are sure to satisfy your cravings. While you might encounter a bit of a wait—around 25 minutes for their signature BBQ burger—the option for delivery makes it easy to enjoy their delicious offerings without delay.
They have a good variety of BBQ burgers. They don't have combos , you have to buy everything separately.

One of the greatest burgers in town. Whether for sit or takeout, the quality of food is something which makes your day. The place itself seems to be always crowded with the youth and lively, with limited but sufficient menu for quick food.

probably, the best burgers I've ever tried, juicy and chewy! Just a few minutes to walk from the "heart" of city Opera house. Great service! The only moment was the wating time, they told me it will take 25 minutes to make BBQ burger, so we decided to use the delivery service :) instead of waiting at cafe

(Translated by Google) 2022 Delicious Burger, I usually order it for delivery or sometimes eat there, I often ate there. This Italian Burger was the most delicious for me you can order one large Burger and that’s enough to completely fill you up, but I once had a record, I ate 2 large Burgers with country-style potatoes, I thought that my friend would pay for me, but in the end I myself would pay for 4 Burgers, he just had no money wasn't there then But the staff there is not very good, when you come in they are always in no mood or as if they don’t want to work there, I would like them to smile and wish good luck to the client, but it happened several times they didn’t even give me a small change, they said come back next time we will calculate with another order of the minuses, I would like them to accept payment by card, several times I wanted to pay using the application, they said it doesn’t work or something else In general, delicious Burgers in this area Update: 2024 Now everything is worse there, the service, and all the food, I don’t recommend it, the place is in Giprozem (Original)

(Translated by Google) Update first they fooled me that they start work at 12:00 because the drivers are Sunday and they started cleaning as if it was my problem that you started cleaning, start your cleaning at 4 am or 2 am to be open for the opening, then they say that their delivery starts at 2 am because the delivery person is supposedly an independent worker... okay, you don't know how to work, close your cafe and that's it... I don't recommend it to anyone else and I myself will not go to this stupid bbq burger (Original) Update
